This may or may not have been a WIP for a few months.... Anyway! Some Mama Pidge AU, featuring Krolia being the happiest grandma around. She won't accept Keith's claims of not courting Pidge. She wants Darrell for her grandson and Pidge as her daughter-in-law. Also, apparently Krolia kidnaps Darrell a lot. Oops.
Anyway! I hope y'all enjoy this one! Remember, commissions are open and available on my ko-fi. Until next time!

KIDGE ANGST
TW! death
50 years had passed. It had been 50 years since they shared their first kiss, and they had never left each other's sides.
During those 50 years, their love had only grown stronger with each passing day.
Now, she was 70.
As she lay in her bed next to her husband, Katie felt a strange sensation. Both she and her husband had been worried lately; she had been feeling weak and breathless for almost a month now, and doctors couldn't find anything wrong.
She took a deep breath and rested her head against her pillow. Keith knew exactly how she felt. He knew her so well that just one look in her eyes was enough to tell that something was wrong.
But he also knew that if he asked, she would simply answer that she was fine. So, he asked, and as expected, she said that she was okay. He insisted, and so did she.
Deciding to give up, knowing how stubborn she was but also trusting that she would confide in him later if something was truly wrong, he kissed her forehead as they wished each other a good night.
As he closed his eyes, Keith instantly fell asleep. But no matter how much she tried, Pidge couldn't.
As she grew older, it became harder for Pidge to fall asleep at night. She and Keith had lost everyone:
The first to go was Baebae, Pidge's dog. It had been complicated for her, but she stayed strong.
Then came Sam. It was years after Baebae, and it was possibly the worst day of her life by that time.
Sam was followed by Colleen, who couldn't bear losing her husband for the second time. She was an old woman who had been through so much, but her heart could not handle more. She died, drowning in sadness, and no matter how much Matt and Pidge did to save her, it wasn't enough...
After Colleen, Shiro followed. It devastated everyone, especially Keith. But with Pidge by his side, he healed faster.
Hunk died years later. A heart attack was the reason...
The only ones remaining in their lives were Lance, Matt, Krolia, Kosmo, and their kids. Some other people remained, but they were less important in their lives.
And all this kept Pidge awake at night. She remembered the old times, hurting herself by allowing her thoughts to dwell on all the happy moments. And then, she remembered that it was over, that she would never again be hugged by her father or laugh with her mother... That she would never get to hug Baebae to sleep or have nice Paladin hangouts with her friends... And, of course, she would never gossip with Allura again.
She missed Hunk's cookies and his presence when she was feeling down. She missed Shiro's advice and how reassuring he was.
She just wanted to go back in time, start everything over, and reclaim the beauty that she thought she had lost.
And she was happy with Keith. She always had been, and she felt so grateful that he was still by her side today... But she missed how they used to love each other back then, those nights when they wouldn't sleep and would share every piece of passion. She missed discovering his touch, his body; it all felt new back then, and now, it just seemed routine. She knew his touch by heart... And not that she thought it was bad, but she did think that it was better before... Because everything seemed better when they were younger.
She used to fight for peace, she used to be a model for so many people and have an important purpose. Today, she felt worthless. Just an old lady. A grandma, certainly, but then what was next?
Death. And she would feel guilty admitting that she actually waited for it every day now.
She knew that she would leave her kids behind, along with her remaining friends, her brother, and her husband.
But her kids were grown adults now, with their own families and lives that she wished she could still have. They didn't need her anymore...
As for her friends, she only really had Lance and a few acquaintances. But she rarely saw them, if ever. She called Lance often, but that was about it.
She saw Matt often. Same old Matt. And when thoughts of ending her life crossed her mind, she tried to push them away, knowing that she was his only family left.
And then there was her husband. How she loved him. He was the only reason she hadn't tried to end it herself. The only thing tormenting her now was deciding whether she wanted him to die before her or after her... Whether she would hurt him or herself.
She didn't really have a choice.
Lost in thought, her eyes closed, and she felt her body's weight growing heavier with each passing second. She understood. Summoning all her strength, she opened her eyes one last time to look at him. The only man who had ever loved her, the only man she had ever loved.
Oh, how beautiful he looked in the moonlight, she thought to herself, finding the strength to reach for his cheek...
She caressed his cheek, feeling her hand grow too heavy, and she rested it in his.
If only she could tell him how much she loved him... But she didn't want to see him cry. She didn't want him to take her to the hospital or try to "save" her.
She wanted to silently pass away in the bed where they had shared their love for years. In the room where they had once been young together. In peace.
A tear rolled down her face: she was feeling greatful in this moment to have had such a beautiful life.
And she silently hoped that she'll find him again, in another life.

What if Keith Kogane had a twin sister?
In this AU, Krolia is Haggar's and Zarkon' s daughter (Lotor's sister). Haggar's a dark skinned altean, so I imagine if Krolia looked altean she'd be dark skinned too. So whenever the twins were born, Keith looked human but his sister looked galra. Krolia took the girl with her, but soon found out that she could change and look human as well. She would have dark skin, black hair with white streaks from her grandma (Haggar), and purple eyes.
Her and Keith would accidentally meet when Keith goes and joins the BOM. The girl would be happy to see another human, transforming from Galra to human. Keith would be happy to find another half-breed. The girl would be like, "I have to show you to my mom!"
They'd go find Krolia and Keith would be like, "That's my mom." They'd get confused and Krolia would have to explain. I can imagine them getting pissed bc Keith was left just bc he looked human. They'd get really close and when Keith went back to Voltron, she'd go with him.
It's just a silly little AU I came up with bc I'm bored. Have fun exploring it though 😜

I support the headcanon that Krolia is Zarkon and Honerva’s daughter and that Keith is their grandchild. Because Keith exhibits moments of Altean ‘transcendence’ (or whatever you’d like to call it) in the show. Also, Krolia just always seemed like a halfbreed to me. She’s got those matching marks on her face that always gave me Altean-mark vibes and I think it’s fantastic that Keith gets a scar that seems to match them exactly. It’s uncanny and it feeds my internal nonsense
Also I’m one of those people who’s a sucker for Dickensian relationships where everyone is associated somehow. So . . .

First Headcannon
Pease note: I am a multishipper in many fandoms I participate in as a writer. Just because a headcannon or a particular shipping is here, does not guarantee seeing it in my writing.
This headcannon is inspired by how I was named after my maternal grandmother, who passed away in January 2016 fighting cancer.
Shiro, Lance, and Keith decide to adopt a little Galra baby girl and have the ability to give her a name. At the time, Krolia is away on a mission and no one is sure if she's still alive for not. To honor his mother, Keith names the baby Krolia.
Krolia returns alive and well a few months later and gets to meet baby Krolia, who is given the nickname of Lia.

Unpopular opinion: That Keith found his biological mother, doesn't mean he now has a Mom. Pretty Alien Lady may have the genes, but she still left an infant then stayed absent for 18 years, and that shit stays with you. It's not hard to tell how deeply it has stayed with Keith.
(I do hope she can become his Mom, though. Keith deserves it.)

This is so stupid and I got kinda lazy but ever since reading You and Me made 3 I've been obsessed with teacher Lance and his kids asking bout how he got pregnant, idk.
But oh how I love the story so far it has everything, soon to be grandmas Krolia and Miriam, Curtis and Shiro best space dads, altean lance!
Anyway, long story short this is my humble bribe for more...
Omg!!!!!!!! More art! 😍😍😍😍😍😍 this is the most perfect thing to wake up to! Sincerely, thank you so much!
This isn’t quiet how in my head I planned him telling, but zomg I’m having it! They have to tell Krolia and Mami, but will be back on Altea. And that’s exactly how the kids are going to be!
Thank you!!!!! 🥰♥️♥️♥️

Rea has made a comeback!! Here she is in her blade uniform. Some more details she is currently age 16, this detail might change if I feel like it.
Some new info, as Keith is still an active member of the Blade of Marmora, and his husband is an ex-paladin of Voltron. The family lives on the BoM base HQ, all are active members along with Grandma Krolia and Kolivan.
siblings might be on the way.
also note i have no clue what is going on with her body proportions, her friends look fine to me. But she came out a tad strange.

OK THIS IS MY IDEA FOR LIKE A VOLTRON SEASON... keep in mind I didnt watch the last season but nobody liked it so Im sure no one cares if I accidentally retcon stuff.. HERE GOES-
BOOM
Starts off with Coran. Hes staring up at some screen with a bunch of weird alien science bullshit on screen. He looks kind of more aged and tired which is a little concerning because his species is seemingly like immortal. But hes staring up at this screen and hes starts talking to Allura... whos not there its more like ‘where could you be, I still feel like youre out there somewhere‘ that kind of thing...
Romelle comes in and starts like ‘Coran you gotta stop with this. You gotta move. whens the last time youve talked to someone besides me or this screen.’ etc and Coran just looks sad because hes kind of been left behind and he misses the last family he really had left. and hes all ‘I feel like shes still out there... I wish she’d just give us a sign‘ and Romelle feels bad but tries to convince him to step away...
WHEN SUDDENLY some of the alien tech starts picking up some weird interference and Coran and Romelle are like !!!!! Holy shit... and now Romelle is a little on board and Coran grabs a communication device or w/e.
hard cut to Pidge and Hunk. Theyre just fucking around.. I havent decided more about them but lets just say theyre like playing a game late at night and goofing off surrounded by weird inventions and random junk... Pidge loses and Hunk gloats and theyre surprised when their phone rings... (of course Coran would contact them first) but MOVING ON
Lance is still like working on a farm somewhere or w/e he was doing at the end of the series, just with his big family and looking pretty pleased... little girl runs up and tells him grandma said hes got a phone call so he picks her up and heads in.. and then you find out the little girl is his daughter and hes a good dad and its very cute. also he has beard in these moments cuz it can be funny later.
Then we get to Shiro... whos sleeping. Hes all stressed out.. think that scene in IM3 with Tony... like hes not gotten any sorta therapy. And he wakes up all sweaty and startled and Curtis comes in and is like ‘Oh honey are you ok... I thought I heard you wake up‘ something something showing a cute relationship with the fellas. PHONE CALL.
Then were with the Blade. Full suited up Blades are training, ones way bigger than the other, theres some other smaller Blades at the side watching... its clearly some kind of battle instruction... This is were Keith is gonna be re-introduced but boom smaller Blade gets knocked back and helmet phases away to reveal some little gremlin mad that they got bested. A little hot headed moody thing and then the instructor phases his helmet away and its KEITH. Fully purple. Those hints that Keith was getting more Galra-like... now this. Krolia comes in to tell him Coran has called and asked him to come by because something important happened.
At where ever Coran is at the Paladins start showing up. Make it really clear that they havent really kept in touch much...
Pidge and Hunk meet up with Lance... see his beard and start RAILING on him. Like WHAT IS THAT?! And Lance fights back because he thinks the beard makes him look manly but Pidge laughs and Hunks like...//strokes his own beard and Lance is like ‘HUNK HAS A BEARD!‘ but Pidge is all ‘HUNK HAS THE FACE FOR A BEARD YOU LOOK GOOFY AS FUCK‘ And Lance is like ‘Whatever what do you know!‘
then Shiro is like ‘Geez you guys are already bickering?‘ Pidge is super excited to see Shiro and Lance is like ‘AH YES. A man of great honor and refined taste!! SHIRO... Tell them my beard looks good!‘ and Shiros all :).......... yeah. But its obvious hes just trying to be nice but hes a bad liar and Lance is like ‘GOD DAMN IT‘ and the others laugh.
Keith comes in fully Galra.. the other Paladins are like ?!!?!? WAT. And Keith is like hey! all casual about it, offers a hand to Shiro for their little hug thing even tho even Shiros still like ‘Purple? also youre taller than me now? Dont like that.‘ but Keith is like ‘wtf is up with the beard?‘ and Lance is all ‘I DONT WANNA HEAR IT FROM YOU.‘
Cuz hes fucking purple.
But they get to Coran and Coran goes off with a bunch of alien tech speak and only Pidge and Hunk are really following along but they look a little skeptical when he starts trying to mash pieces together like ‘Oh this could be Allura trying to communicate with us! Maybe we can get her back!‘ which of course hooks Lance immediately.
At the chance to maybe create some cool new device Pidge and Hunk are ready to work with Coran to make some device to pin point the anomaly and maybe create some kind of universe jumping portal... they remember that comet thing from that weird AU episode so they know its technically possible. Keith thinks its a bad idea and Shiro trusts his instincts cuz he wasnt really there for that so he has no input.
BUT it happens anyways and more information on the anomaly is given with Pidge and Hunks machine. they find its one life form thats not like something enormous and they get a little more into Corans mind set. Maybe this really is a Allura.
Theyre willing to risk it.
Something something they build a machine and some kind of containment area to try and ease Keiths mind. Theyre suited up prepared for whoever it is that might come through.
But its clear when the figure steps through the portal that its not Allura and probably not an Altean at all. Weird number of toes, really tall. They suspect Galra and they know there are still rogue Galra out there so they keep their guard up but then the person looks over at them and immediately removes their mask and its Ulaz! and hes like ‘OH FUCK! Shiro!!! (not exact words... I dont do dialog leave me alone)‘
and Shiros ‘ULAZ!!!!‘
Ulaz can look a little different, maybe his mohawk hair is longer and braided so he looks all cool but also like he hasnt been able to maintain his hair, hes got some scars on his face, maybe he lost an eye or something.
And everyones a little excited to see him especially Shiro and even Keith cuz thats one of his Blade brothers! The first one hes met really... (Coran and Lance are not quite as happy...)
After a brief moment of joy Ulaz is quick to inform them of the AU Alteans.
They get filled in. They find out that those Alteans are also looking for Allura... which Coran is like ‘Allura really is alive!!‘ but its not that important to Ulaz at the moment cuz hes just going on about the number of followers Hiras got and theyve been fucking around in the universes gathering followers and power and shit.
Then hard cut to Hiras fleet and that bitch is PACKIN.
THAT WOULD BE FIRST EPISODE SET UP. //a fanfiction by Ewim
what do you think...

Who's down for a little bit of angst? Cause I think I just came up with my next one-shot (where as my previous prompt will be for a more lengthy story).
So I like to think Galra have extended life spans (compared to humans) and Zarkon and Haggar/Honerva had even longer lifespans thanks to the over-indulgence of quintessence (to be perfectly fair I once saw a prompt saying a very similar thing a few years ago long before I got tumblr and I can't remember who it was to give proper credit (if anyone knows let me know and I'll edit this))
Anyways with the idea Galra live so much longer than other races, especially longer than humans, just imagine Keith having to outlive the other paladins? Where to the point it's roughly 100 years later and he is a bitter 120+ year old man, (maybe looking like he is in his early to mid 60's at this point) he got to live out a great life with his SO (for me it's obviously Pidge), got to witness Lance and Hunk each be happy and have their own families and eventually had to say goodbye to Shiro as well.
Just imagine, Keith is the last of the old guard. He promised each of his friends and Pidge he would watch after their kids and their kids' kids. Along with watching over their families, "grandpa Keith" tells all the grandkids about their adventures. How he and grandad Lance shared a bonding moment from an explosion, how Papa Hunk constantly made the best food in any Galaxy, and how grandma Pidge was the smartest girl in the universe (and to him the most beautiful).
Finally, another 20 years pass, Keith is 140+ (roughly looking about 90+) he finally feels like he lived long enough and happily enough to let himself pass on. All the members know it's getting close, Krolia feels it too, all the great-grandkids don't know why they are always being ushered away immediately after story time.
As Keith lays down he feels a warmth, and the weight he's felt on his shoulders for over 60 years finally lessens. He feels himself pass on to the realm where the paladins all go when they pass. He opens his eyes to see Allura smiling at her old friend, guiding him to 9 silhouetted figures. He sees the good/true Zarkon, Alfor, and the other original paladins. Along with them he sees Shiro, Lance, Hunk, and finally Pidge.
Not the most angsty, but it's not exactly the happiest either. Let me know what you all think of it!

Voltron: Next Generation
A Portentous Warning: II
Word Count: 3010
The weekly meeting with Curtis on Earth and the crew of the Coeus happened on the day the teens were covering the bridge. Kova and Allie rushed past the kitchen, where the adults were eating whatever Hunk and Cake managed to make. Down the hallway, past the sleeping quarters, past Shiro's room, and to the left, was the bridge through the only doorway to the right. Kova never broke her stride, reaching out to grab her podium. Allie hadn't bandaged Kova's hands, leaving them still bruised and bloodied. Caleb, who had walked in seconds earlier, turned his chair around as Allie walked past to sit in her chair. Kova looked up at Caleb's turning, seeing the lavender fabric in his hands. He tossed the bundle to her like a basketball, and Kova managed to catch it. She had managed to put it on and pull the sleeves down to cover her knuckles when Krolia turned around.
"Kovalia," Krolia said, noticing the teen standing at her console. "I was wondering when you would come."
"Sorry for keeping you waiting," Kova said. She leaned on her console, hiding her knuckles in the bend of her elbows as Krolia approached the podium.
"Um, sorry," Liz said. She and Cake were gaping at the sight of the Galra. "When did we meet?"
"Cap, you can't secrets from us," Cake whined, puppy dog eyes in full view.
"Your team?" Krolia asked, looking at Kova again. The teen had closed her eyes and furrowed her brows, hoping to ignore the other two members.
"Yep." She opened her eyes. "We have something to ask you."
"About cargo." Krolia placed a hand on her hip. "I recall. What is it and where is it going?" At that, the teen sucked in her lips and took a breath.
"Vatos," Kova called. Krolia, confused, turned around at the toddler that had been coloring in the corner. His sheets of paper were in disarray, with crudely made crayons in his fists. When Kova said his name, the little boy looked up with a toothy smile. "Hi," Kova said, giving a little wave. Vatos waved his fist before returning to his scribbles.
"No." Krolia was quick in her response. "Kovalia, I am not and will not become responsible for the child."
"Please?" Kova pleaded. "We can't safely transport him without running into the Fire." Krolia sighed, looking at the little boy. Vatos had managed to draw a mess of yellow, red, green, blue, and black. He stood, walked over to Cake's console, and proudly held up the paper to show it to Cake. Cake fawned over the picture, telling Vatos what a great job he had done. Krolia closed her eyes in defeat.
"Where is he going?" She asked, turning her head to face Kova. It didn't help that Kova was trying to hide a victorious smile.
"Earth, if possible."
"Not Altea?"
"If the Emperor were to become aware of the war, he would order all available troops to prepare," Allie cut in. "All of our citizens would be rehomed, and travel to Earth for refuge. Altea won't be safe."
"Like Daibazaal," Krolia said, her voice low. "Alright, I'll do it. But I expect something in return, Kovalia."
"You have my word." Kova rolled her eyes, sending off a message to Kenny. Since Kenny had been in charge of the toddler, Kenny was also assigned to prep a bag in case the deal came through. "Kenny will bring the bag, and Vatos is all yours."
"You're lucky I was already on my way here." Speak of the devil. The door opened up and quickly closed behind him, tossing the bag to Kova. Kova, in turn, tossed it to Krolia. "Hey, Grandma," Kenny said, waving. "Wait, Grandma?!"
"Kenneth, correct?" Krolia asked Kova, swinging Vatos's bag over her shoulder. Kova nodded. Cake explained, as well as you could explain to a kid, that Krolia was going to take him somewhere safe.
"Where Mommy is?" Vatos asked. Cake's smile faltered. Allie's shoulders sagged. Caleb didn't meet the little boy's eyes. Kova moved, descending the staircase to Cake's level, and sat down on the step. "Where's Mommy?"
"Mommy will join you later," Kova said, smiling at the little boy. "But she wanted us to keep you safe. So that's what we're going to do. Is that okay?" After a tick, the little boy nodded. "Good. Krolia, the woman over there, is going to take you to Earth. One of my dads is going to take care of you when you get there. Okay?"
"Okay." Another head nod from the little boy. "Will I be able to color on my way there?" Kova shrugged, picking up the little boy so he rested on her hip.
"You're going to have to ask Krolia," Kova said. "But I think she will." Kova had leaned in to stage-whisper in his ear, causing the little boy to giggle. Kova approached Krolia, handing Vatos to her. The little boy wrapped his arms around Krolia's neck to look over her shoulder at Allie and Caleb. Allie gave a small little wave and touched her markings. Caleb smiled at the little boy, only staring at him.
"Until next time, Kovalia," Krolia said on her way out, heading towards the emergency exit to the right of the doorway.
"Until next time, Krolia," Kova said softly, crossing her arms. After a few minutes, the Coeus shook again, and an escape pod flew past their window. The teens watched the pod until it was unclear if they were looking at a ship or a star.
"How long has Grandma been here?" Kenny exclaimed, finally unfreezing from his stance.
"Not long." Kova turned around, hoping to end the conversation. "This isn't—"
"Is the first time she's been on the ship?" Kenny asked, staring at Kova with wide eyes. Kova pursed her lips. With a raised eyebrow, she waited until Kenny finished.
"No, this is not the first time she's been on the ship." Kova walked over and climbed the stairs one syllable at a time until she reached the floor. "No, she hasn't asked how the ship is running and who fixed it." Kova finally made it to her console, pushing Kenny aside. He stood with a gaping mouth and wide eyes. He was shocked. Anyone else would.
"She probably thinks it was you," Kenny spoke at last. Kova did what she could to not roll her eyes.
"I can't speak for other people's thoughts, Ken."
"Everyone else would." With that, Kenny marched out. Kova looked after him. If it wasn't her shift. Kenny would have to wait.
The day stretched into the next, where the teens switched off with the adults. Liz and Cake offered to teach Pidge and Hunk about the little upgrades they had managed to do with their spare time. They admitted it was mostly Kova, but they helped.
Kova, on the other hand, stood in front of Kenny's door. Her long hair was tied in a ponytail. She wore her blue dress and leggings under her lavender sweater since her gray vest was given to Keith. She held only a tablet in her hands as she stared into the door. Liz, Cake, and Caleb were pulling out all the stops since Kenny decided to stay in his room today. With a deep breath, Kova knocked and opened the door.
The room was dark, save only for a distant red light. Kenny had turned part of the closet into a  vertical garden. Kova wasn't sure if the plants were already here pre-launch, or if they were collected over their trip so far, but it was a mystery. Immediately to the right of the doorway, the door to the ensuite bathroom lay, also dark. Across from the door, a bundle of blankets lay on the bed. The door closed behind Kova as she approached. The only shifted when Kova sat on the corner closest to the pillow and the wall. Pulling an outermost blanket away, Kenny's head of brown hair appeared from the bundle. At least he was still here.
"Ken," Kova said softly. "Kenny, look at me."
"Go away." Kenny's voice was hoarse. "Go be perfect somewhere else." The mountain of sheets moved as Kenny tried to merge with the wall.
"Kenny," Kova tried to say.
"Kova this, Kova that." His voice was mocking. "'Why can't you be more like Kova?' 'If Kova weren't the Colonel's kid, I would've thought she was my grandkid.' 'Kova's everything everyone wants.' 'Kova is perfection." Kova hadn't said a word while Kenny mocked the comments. She almost jumped out of her skin when he turned his head to glare at her. "Why do you have to be so perfect for everyone?" He turned back around, almost slamming his head against the wall. Kova retracted her hand from the blanket, but she hadn't moved off the bed. As the blood that rushed in Kenny's ear calmed down, he noticed Kova had yet to make a sound. He turned around again, looking at her face. Those pretty amber eyes were downcast, filled with so much sadness and hurt, Kenny wished he could take his words back.
"I wasn't perfect enough for them." Kova's voice held just as much sadness as her eyes. "I have to fight with that every day. It doesn't help that eyes are always on me." Kenny waited as Kova took a deep breath. "I'm the Colonel's kid. I'm a top student. I'm the jack of all trades. I don't' have time to wallow, to process my feelings. I wish I did." Kova's eyes moved from her lap to Kenny's. "I wish I could be invisible, to not be the center of attention, to not worry about failing."
"You wish you were me." Kenny finished her sentence. A rueful smile appeared on her face, nodding gently.
"I wish I could do what you did." Kova continued before Kenny could say more. "You rebuilt, upgraded, and in some places, restored this massive outdated ship without anyone ever noticing." With a hesitant hand, Kova ruffled Kenny's messy hair. "Sam would be proud. So would Matt."
"What about Colleen?" Kova scoffed as she returned her hand to the tablet in her hand.
"Colleen has always been proud of her grandkids, whether they became evil emperors, homebodies, or high-ranking soldiers." Kenny smiled, playfully glaring at Kova. He sat up in bed, pushing his glasses onto his nose. That was when he saw the tablet in Kova's hands.
"What's that for?" He asked, pointing at the tablet. Kova looked down and smiled.
"I was hoping you would watch some old videos with me." She looked up, holding the tablet in front of her chest. "From before."
"Before?" Kenny asked, looking between the tablet and Kova. "Like, /before/ before? Before the Achlys?"
"Before everything."
"Let's do it!" Kenny said, excited. He scooched over to leave some room for Kova, who leaned into his pillows uncomfortably. They were much too soft. The tablet turned on and Kova clicked on a video file hidden under a folder labeled 'KHK'.
The first video opened with a dark screen, with muffled voices over it. At last, the camera opened to reveal a toddler. The little girl had short black hair with a little ponytail on top of her head, held in place by a red hair clip. The toddler had big light brown eyes, with her tongue intermittently darting in and out of her mouth. As the camera zoomed out, more of the toddler's outfit was revealed. She wore a long-sleeved red shirt with a bow in the middle and ladybugs where her pockets would be, and a pair of light gray pants covered in little ladybugs and red shoes tap shoes. Her playful smile at the camera quickly turned into giggles as someone behind the camera bounced their dark pants-covered leg up and down. The toddler turned her attention from the camera to whoever was there.
"Klance!" She shouted happily, squealing.
"How come you're 'Klance', but I'm 'Unatt'?" Matt said off-screen. The little toddler turned her head to presumably Matt with a smile.
"Untt!" The camera zoomed out further until the backs of Lance and Matt's heads could be seen. Lance had thrown his head back in laughter. The toddler, now assumed to be Kova, giggled again.
"At least you're 'Untt' now." Lance was holding little Kova, bouncing her on his leg.
"Be careful, Uncle Lance." The camera turned, giving a full view of what was the Kogane family home. With a turn of his head and across a floor shift, Lance looked at the dining table, where Kenny met his eyes. "TJ is gonna get really mad if you drop her."
"I know, Ken," Lance replied, grabbing little Kova's waist and holding her above his head. "She's just a little daredevil."
"She wouldn't be if you left her alone." The camera turned, flying over the armrest to focus on Pidge. She wore a long-sleeved green shirt, hands planted on the kitchen counter. Her eyes, matching the toddlers, were hard.
"Sorry, Pidge," Matt said, and the camera flew to the other side of the room. "But if she weren't a little daring, she wouldn't be walking, talking, or potty-trained."
"Yeah, Pidge," Lance said, finally lowering the little girl. She sat down on his lap, facing where the TV would've been. Matt handed her a stuffed ladybug, which she gladly accepted. "Pretty soon, little Kyla will be riding a bike into town."
Before Pidge could respond, a giant wolf appeared in front of the couch. Lance, who had been reclining, sat up to secure a hold on the toddler. Matt nearly jumped onto the couch. Kyla, with the black and blue wolf only inches from her face, screamed. The wolf's bright yellow eyes turned to face the screaming child, approaching her to sniff. As Kyla calmed down, about to reach out to pet the wolf, it disappeared. After the moment of shock passed, Kyla was lifted again to stand on Uncle Lance's lap.
"That was Kosmo," Matt said, coming down from the couch.
"Y'know what that means, Ky?" Uncle Lance smiled up at the little girl, who smiled back. "Daddy's home!"
"Daddy!"
Behind the couch, the front door opened. Keith, muttering something was wrong with the wolf, walked into his home. He wore his Blade of Marmora suit, recognizing him as a high-ranking member.
"Daddy!" Kyla exclaimed, bouncing up and down. "Daddy! Daddy!"
"Hey, Lance," Keith greeted, finally seeing the child. "I didn't know you had a kid." Both Lance and Matt looked at each other, then at Pidge, who was trying to blend in with the fridge. That was when TJ emerged from the hallway leading to the bedrooms.
"Dad!" He all but shouted. TJ's hair was shorter, cropped at the nape. He wore a familiar red and white jacket over a forest green shirt and black pants. TJ, with arms outstretched, walked towards Keith, who did the same. As Keith let go of his oldest, he walked past his second and ruffled his hair on his way to the counter to finally see his wife. It was quick. It could've been missed. Little Kenny, still sitting at the dining table, passed a note to TJ as he took a seat. TJ's smile fell as he read the note. He looked up to meet Kenny's eyes and Kenny gave a quick nod.
"Hey, Uncle Lance?" Kenny said, a little too loud for an inside voice. "Does Kyla need to go to the bathroom?"
"I don't know, Ken." Lance caught on quick, meeting the little girl's eyes. "Kyla, do you need to go to the bathroom?" She shook her head. "Are you hungry?" She shook her head again. "Are you tired?" At that, she nodded her head. A yawn followed, and Kyla started rubbing her eyes.
"I'll take her to bed," TJ said, standing up from his chair. "She's our little sister, anyway." Keith looked up at his son, watched him pick up the little girl dressed in red, and walk deeper into the house. Keith stared at Pidge, who had only closed her eyes. Kenny silently slid out of his chair, walked to the couch, and sat in between Lance and Matt. He was staring right at the camera.
"So," Kenny said. "What's the camera's name?" Both Lance and Matt now stared directly at the camera.
"Chad?"
"Why?" Lance asked, staring at Matt. "How about Buddy?" The camera did something, earning Lance's attention. For a brief second, the lens turned colors before returning to normal. Lance smiled. "Buddy it is, I guess."
"Okay, Buddy," Kenny said, and the camera deactivated.
Kova paused the video before it could continue. She looked up at Kenny, now fifteen years older than the video. He pushed his glasses up as he stared at the dark screen.
"I, uh, didn't know Buddy's deactivation phrase," Kenny said, laughing. "But it was boring afterward anyway. TJ came back out after putting you down and admired the camera. It wasn't until he realized that the camera could've captured an unflattering angle when he asked if it was on."
"Uncle Matt talked you through it, right?"
"Yeah." He smiled at the memory. "I was the only one who knew the phrase, besides you."
"I remembered." She smiled, too. "I always turned it on whenever something was happening. And if I didn't turn it on, Pops or Dad did."
"Who made the video?" Kenny reached his hand out to Kova, who handed over the tablet. "There's, like, an hour and a half left."
"Probably Pops." Kova shrugged. "Maybe it was Buddy. I just know that the video has been under my file for years and has only grown." Kova stood, stretching her arms.
"Thanks for that, Ky," Kenny said. Kova froze mid-stretch. "I really needed that."
"What? The memory?"
"The before."
Kova smiled, holding her hand out. Kenny handed her the tablet, watching as she turned and walked towards the door. No words were said between the two, but the nostalgia hit them all the same.

Kacxa Week 2020 Day 3 - Acxa & Keith & Krolia
It Takes a Village
SUMMARY: Keith and Acxa discover that they are far better equipped to face galactic tyrants, Robeasts, and magical creatures than they are to take on the responsibilities and the frustrations of dealing with two of the most challenging creatures in the universe. They soon find comfort in the power of family and are reminded of the reasons they fell in love.

-------------------------------
Acxa is shellshocked and on sensory overload. It seems that motherhood is anything but the idyllic experience she dreamed about.
She is at her wits end.
When settled and well-behaved, her one phoeb old twin daughters Mireya and Cataleya are the picture of serene beauty. But most of the time, they are two little devils. Acxa insists that no one will be raising her daughters except her and Keith. She wants them to know their mother and father, and she wants them to be instilled with the values she and Keith share. A beautiful idea, but implementing it comes with a steep price.
A typical day for the frazzled new mother looks something like this. Get up between 3 and 4 am to breastfeed the little barracudas. Keith sleeps through that exercise, telling his wife that he is not properly equipped to feed them that way. Irked by her husband’s flippant response she makes him burp one of the girls as a way of ‘bonding’ with them, an exercise which frequently results in Keith wearing their breakfast on his shoulders and down his back. After sending her husband to the showers to clean up, she changes diapers then does her best to settle them back down. They stay down long enough for her to wolf down breakfast before colic kicks in and both are screaming at the top of their lungs. Keith does his best to help her, but his duties as Emperor at the Galra Royal Palace and at Parliament pull him away, often leaving his frazzled wife to deal with the children on her own.
This cycle will rinse and repeat about four times per day (minus Keith) before he returns and takes over from her for the evening. Acxa catches three hours of sleep before waking to check on not only the girls, but her now equally frazzled husband.
Despite his pleas to get a full-time Dayak to help them, Acxa steadfastly refuses. Her mother raised her by herself with no one to help her. She is determined to do the same with her children.
Not knowing what to do and fearing for his wife’s sanity (and his if he is completely honest about it), Keith finally reaches out to the one person he thinks can help them restore order.
His mother
---------------
Krolia arrives at their house the following quintant and is eagerly greeted at the front door by a familiar face from the Blade of Marmora. Sergeant Bars, Acxa’s Aide-de-Camp, is more than happy to see her. “Krolia, thank the Spirits you are here. Please, if there is anything you can do to convince the Empress to let us help her with the children, please do it. I’m afraid she’s going to drop dead from exhaustion.”
Entering the house and seeing the chaos for herself, she hands a tablet to the distressed Bars. “Transmit this message right away. I need the recipient of this message here immediately.”
Sergeant Bars eagerly acts to complete Krolia’s request. “I will personally deliver this message and bring her here myself. I’ll drag her here if I have to.”
Krolia gives him a reassuring look. “Don’t worry, Bars. Once she reads that, you won’t have to drag her here.”
---------------
Krolia rushes into the nursery and helps Acxa and Keith get the children changed and ready for bed. She uses the fact that she is the girl’s grandmother to convince Acxa to let her help. But not before Acxa and Keith get into yet another argument over getting a Dayak to at least let Acxa get some sleep.
“For the one millionth time, no! We are not getting a Dayak! You took the only one I would even remotely consider and made her the Archivist!”
“Because she’s the only one qualified for that position! There are plenty of others who could take care of the girls.”
“Really? Name one.”
“Well…uh…”
“Uh huh. I thought so. Keith, no one is raising our daughters except us, and that’s final!”
For Krolia, this argument is the last straw. Settling the children down for a nap, she emerges to find Keith and Acxa nose to nose in a continuation of their disagreement.
“Enough!”
Hearing the commanding tone in Krolia’s voice, Keith and Acxa freeze in place.
Narrowing her eyes and setting her jaw, Krolia grabs her son and daughter-in-law by the scruff of their necks and leads them to a sofa. She tosses Keith down on one end of the sofa while firmly planting Acxa on the other end.
“Sit! Now…what the hell is going on here?”
When they both start to speak at once, Krolia raises her hands to stop them. “One at a time. Acxa…you first.”
“You want to know what the problem is? I’ll tell you what the problem is. I am here…by myself…trying to raise two small children. I wasn’t sure, until I got pregnant, that I would even be able to have children. But now that they are here, Keith and I are going to be the ones to raise them. Keith thinks I’m exhausted and can’t handle it by myself. I don’t know how he came to that conclusion since HE’S NEVER HERE TO HELP ME!”
“What? I help!”
“Oh, come on, Keith! Your duties as Emperor keep you at the palace or at Parliament. Yes, you help me a little in the evenings, but other than those three vargas, if I’m lucky, the girls and I don’t get to see you. Honestly, those girls are going to grow up and you’re going to miss it!”
Acxa’s words cut Keith deeply. “I’m…I’m sorry…”
Acxa crosses her arms and pouts. “You say that a lot lately. Look, I’m not trying to be mean. I’m just trying to be the best mother I can be to our girls. Just like my mother was for me. Don’t you want to be a good father to them?”
Keith hangs his head in guilt, staring at the floor. “I…I had no idea…” He turns in the sofa to look his wife squarely in the eye. “I want to be a good father to our girls. The way my father was good for me. I want to be here more, please believe that. But I feel trapped between my duties to the Galra Republic and to my family. Remember how you told me, before we climbed the steps of the Kral Zera together, that we needed to eliminate the caste system so our girls could grow up and be judged by who they are as people and not by who their parents are?1 Everything I’m doing…I thought I was doing it for them. For my girls. I never meant to hurt them…or hurt you.”
Krolia stands in front of them as she crosses her arms and looks first to Keith, then to Acxa. “This is worse than I thought. Ok kids look at me. This is Grandma Krolia about to get real with you two.”
“Acxa, I didn’t know your mother, but I know what it’s like to be the mother of a newborn. You were too young to remember your mother when you were an infant, and when you were old enough you only saw her from the viewpoint of a child. You didn’t see the frustrations and the tears your mother shed because she didn’t know how to take care of a child. News flash, it wasn’t as easy for her to raise you as you think. Children don’t come with instruction manuals.”
“Keith. You did not see the tears and the frustrations your father went through. I did. And let me tell you son, your father was a big, rugged, tough man who was reduced to tears by a 9-pound newborn. It was tough on him. It was tough on me. There were days when we both wanted to run away or bang our heads against the wall. There were days when we screamed at each other.”
“But then you would settle down and go sleep in our arms. Or you would look at us and laugh or make silly cooing sounds. You reminded us why we decided to have a child.”
“You see, the frustrations and the fears of having a child will always be there. They will change and evolve as the decaphoebs pass but they will never go away. You must remind yourselves that the Supreme Spirit entrusted the two of you with not only bringing these girls into the world, but with raising them to be good people as well. Because let me tell you, the joys of parenthood far outweigh the frustrations in the long run. No matter how big or sassy your children get, in your minds eye they will always be the little ones who looked up to mommy and daddy for love and guidance.
“No matter how old, Mom?”
“No matter how old you get, Keith, you will always be that squiggly little boy who brought so much joy and happiness into my life. Let me give you one piece of advice, son. Your wife is right. Don’t get so busy that you don’t see and experience your children growing up. If that happens you will regret it for the rest of your life. You do have responsibilities as an adult, and one of the most important responsibilities you have is to your family.”
“You make time for important matters of government, right? Well, your family is just as important as any governmental matter you can handle. Make time for them. Make quality time for them. And that includes your wife. Do not neglect her.”
“Acxa, that goes for you too. Do not neglect your husband. You two are a team. You love each other. Don’t forget that. Don’t ever lose sight of what binds the two of you together.”
“So, kids, here’s what’s going to happen. You two are going to spend the next movement at the lodge on Earth. BY YOURSELVES! You will clear your heads and forget about things here for a movement. You will remind yourselves why you chose each other as life partners, in every way imaginable. You will come back with a fresh perspective and you will work together to raise my granddaughters. With my help!”
“But Krolia, we can’t just leave like that. You can’t take care of two infants by yourself!”
“I don’t intend to. I plan on having an expert help me.”
“Who?”
From the entrance to the parlor comes another familiar voice. “I believe she would be referring to me.”
Keith’s Aunt Miara enters the room.
“Sorry Krolia, I got here as fast as I could.” Miara stands next to Krolia and looks to Keith and Acxa.
“Keith, Acxa, I heard what Krolia told you, and I agree with all of it. But I don’t want you to worry. I raised twin daughters. Believe me, I remember what that was like, and I learned a few tricks along the way. I’ll be happy to share them with you two.”
“Acxa, I know you insist that your girls be raised by you and Keith and not by a Dayak. I get it, and I respect your wishes. But sweetie there is no harm in asking family to help you.”
“But…Mom had no one to help her…she did it on her own.”
“My Dad didn’t either…sorry Mom, no offense, I know you had to leave…but they are our children and it is our job as parents to raise them.”
“It is your job as parents to raise your children to the best of your ability…and it is sad that your parents were forced to raise the two of you alone. But you two don’t have to do it alone. You are part of a family that loves you. Krolia and I are mothers. We will never stop being mothers no matter how old our children get. And we will both be damned if we sit by and do nothing while our children, or our nieces and nephews, suffer. Especially when there is something we can do about it.”
Krolia crosses her arms and speaks sternly to Keith and Acxa. “Now that matters are settled here, you two go pack your bags.”
“Now!”
---------------
That evening, Keith and Acxa leave for the lodge on Earth.
It takes them both three quintants to relax, unwind, and get used to the fact that Grandma Krolia and Great Aunt Miara have the children well under control.
On the night of the third quintant, they sit on the deck, stargazing. Something they have not done since the children were born.
Acxa silently reflects on the night she claimed Keith as her life partner. Keith does the same as he queues up the same music mix he played that night. She snuggles close to him, purring contentedly.
“Hmmm…Keith…remember what happened the last time we were here, and you played that music.”
“I do seem to recall you got a bit…frisky…and to be honest, I’m hoping the same thing happens again.”
Acxa stands and pulls her husband up to her
“Oh, don’t worry, big boy…it will. This night is just getting started…”

🖊 Yorha
Small headcanon: When Yorha first went into her heat cycle (because your headcanon on this has grown on me so much and I love it), she was scared and confused as all hell. When she was around Zak her stomach would be all fluttery, but when she was around Heron? Everything went into MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE! She couldn’t breath, she could hardly think, she couldn’t form a coherent sentence without stuttering over every word. She finally locked herself in her room one Saturday morning to I guess assess what the flying fuck was wrong with her, but thankfully Krolia “best grandma ever(TM)” Kogane gave her a little chat about her “wacky hormones.” When she went back to school with this new info, all it took was holding Heron’s hand, she went “Oh, this heat thing isn’t so bad!”
But you can let your imagination fill in the blanks when they got older. ;3

I’ve been drawing Pidge as an Altean child, so here she is older! Okay, she’s still a kid (fourteen/fifteen is still a kid), but she’s still older. Yay! I was originally going to have her communicating with Ryner, but I decided to draw Keith, the Galran probably giving her some updates on how he’s doing while away from Olkarion. Krolia back there... probably being a typical mom if that expression is anything to go by?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yup. Though my mom never did that, my grandma sure as hell did; I bet Ryner does the same thing to Pidge when she can.
Anyway, whether you see this as Kidge (Keith x Pidge), that’s up to you. I just mainly did it so Krolia could tease her baby boy.
Enjoy!
