Naruto has no shortage of villains dissatisfied with the status quo but I think Madara's the only person wh #views it as ''completing/rectifying a failed project''. If that idea were better executed we'd have Madara's plan reflect the worst of the #world Hashirama built by playing exactly by its rules to give light to the fact that its foundations were deeply flawed.#I mean I think that that was sort of what Kishi was going for but the Infinite Tsukuyomi to me isn't really a good reflection of the shinob #world it's just kind of a stupid plan.#This was sort of the case with Nagato but he wasn't really responding to the beginnings of the system he was responding to while it was #already established. L'intérêt avec Hashirama et Madara is that their story deals with the roots of How It All Ended Up Like This.#So Madara's villain arc attacking the roots of the village system itself especially after we had a whole flashback for it would've been #great instead of whatever this is.

the fact that shakespeare was a playwright is sometimes so funny to me. just the concept of the "greatest writer of the English language" being a random 450-year-old entertainer, a 16th cent pop cultural sensation (thanks in large part to puns & dirty jokes & verbiage & a long-running appeal to commoners). and his work was made to be watched not read, but in the classroom teachers just hand us his scripts and say "that's literature"

just...imagine it's 2450 A.D. and English Lit students are regularly going into 100k debt writing postdoc theses on The Simpsons screenplays. the original animation hasn't even been preserved, it's literally just scripts and the occasional SDH subtitles.txt. they've been republished more times than the Bible

#due to the Great Data Decay academics write viciously argumentative articles on which episodes aired in what order #at conferences professors have known to engage in physically violent altercations whilst debating the air date number of household viewers #90% of the couch gags have been lost and there is a billion dollar trade in counterfeit “lost copies”#serious note: i'll be honest i always assumed it was english imperialism that made shakespeare so inescapable in the 19th/20th cent #like his writing should have become obscure at the same level of his contemporaries #but british imperialists needed an ENGLISH LANGUAGE (and BRITISH) writer to venerate #and shakespeare wrote so many damn things that there was a humongous body of work just sitting there waiting to be culturally exploited...#i know it didn't happen like this but i imagine a English Parliament House Committee Member For The Education Of The Masses or something #cartoonishly stumbling over a dusty cobwebbed crate labelled the Complete Works of Shakespeare #and going 'Eureka! this shall make excellent propoganda for fabricating a national identity in a time of great social unrest.#it will be a cornerstone of our elitist educational institutions for centuries to come! long live our decaying empire!'#'what good fortune that this used to be accessible and entertaining to mainstream illiterate audience members...#..but now we can strip that away and make it a difficult & alienating foundation of a Classical Education! just like the latin language :)'#anyway maybe there's no such thing as the 'greatest writer of x language' in ANY language?#maybe there are just different styles and yes levels of expertise and skill but also a high degree of subjectivity #and variance in the way that we as individuals and members of different cultures/time periods experience any work of media #and that's okay! and should be acknowledged!!! and allow us to give ourselves permission to broaden our horizons #and explore the stories of marginalized/underappreciated creators #instead of worshiping the List of Top 10 Best (aka Most Famous) Whatevers Of All Time/A Certain Time Period #anyways things are famous for a reason and that reason has little to do with innate “value”#and much more to do with how it plays into the interests of powerful institutions motivated to influence our shared cultural narratives #so i'm not saying 'stop teaching shakespeare'. but like...maybe classrooms should stop using it as busy work that (by accident or designs)#happens to alienate a large number of students who could otherwise be engaging critically with works that feel more relevant to their world #(by merit of not being 4 centuries old or lacking necessary historical context or requiring untaught translation skills)#and yeah...MAYBE our educational institutions could spend less time/money on shakespeare critical analysis and more on...#...any of thousands of underfunded areas of literary research i literally (pun!) don't know where to begin #oh and p.s. the modern publishing world is in shambles and it would be neat if schoolwork could include modern works?#beautiful complicated socially relevant works of literature are published every year. it's not just the 'classics' that have value #and actually modern publications are probably an easier way for students to learn the basics. since lesson plans don't have to include the #important historical/cultural context many teens need for 20+ year old media (which is older than their entire lived experience fyi)

ironically i love thrifting but ive never thought about using ebay, do you have any tips or keywords you use on it to find deals and shifty stuff/wording to look out for?

honestly I don't find ebay to be shifty for buying stuff! people are scared about using it sometimes and I think it's a little funny lol I guess the tip would be that if you search for an item with vague enough terms, you'll get some SHEIN-esque mass produced clothes muddying the results. and you know it when you see it, because those listings look like shit btw. this type of thing:

like, these are real listings and everything, and you'd get the product, but they are obviously not what you're looking for. you can ignore these, but if you want to filter them out, you can just narrow the search to SPECIFICALLY pre-owned items.

There isn't really any wording to look out for-- the only other thing would just be to make sure the stuff you get can be returned, bc sellers can specify whether or not they'll take the items back!

#aside from that you can search by brand if you're looking specifically for like. modcloth dresses #you can look for that! and obviously it lets you sort by size and color and whatever #people post pics of the clothes on a hanger or laying flat on a bed/table or on a mannequin #or they'll reupload the original product photo from the origin website lol and that's fine too. honestly sometimes prefer that.#people really optimize search terms on there so you can be vague or specific it doesn't really matter #I think pre-op I was looking for button up pajama tops. bc they're soft and have fewer buttons. and I looked exclusively for pre-owned #so they'd be cheap lol #ebay is really strict actually and if an item doesn't show up or there's a hole in a shirt or whatever you aren't left in the lurch #and the sellers really really want good ratings #sergle answers #It's a problem though actually bc I really really really like shopping for clothes. but also. I got no money #there's lots of great stuff ppl put on ebay instead of in a physical thrift store

Since the Russian hacker group that's pretending to be in Sudan is in the news, I think now would be a good time to remind everyone that Sudan is currently in the middle of an awful conflict that has displaced around 1 million people. while i'm ranting, might as well give another one - thinking about the heteromorph mini arc and discussing it when a friend and just realized:

while the other villains get to have adorable kiddie imagery and a hero bestie to be beside them to hold their hand and imply that in a better world, they would've been saved as children,

heteromorphs get none of that. apparently they just have to live as discriminated children and grow up like that, and just endure and hope in themselves and focus on the good memories.

Shoji talked about themselves (heteromorphs) being bright and shining, and how that will be used to change bigots so they become ashamed. A Hero said "sorry for not realizing earlier ¯\_(ツ)_/¯" and that's it. no hero to save them, especially not when they're children. they have to do it themselves.

This might be pushing it, but like. the story also never even suggests the idea that Shoji should've been saved. Not even 'I was hurt and a hero should've saved me, and now I will be the hero that my child self needed'. But rather his heroic goal is being a cool hero to change the image of heteromorphs. Like it's their fault.

Between how Shoji saved the girl, and how the heteromorph mob guy Imagine Spots the heteromorph doctor tending to a non-heteromorph patient, it seems to suggest that heteromorphs should... work harder to save non-heteromorphs? to be accepted?

Shoji saved himself and that's the model to aspire for. Heroes just don't really figure into this societal wide discrimination attitude? and that's that.

***okay well. the villain kids don't get fully saved either, exactly, they just get a friend who can help them endure, who can get them through the hardships without snapping and making trouble for other people. But they get a friend. heteromorphs have to do it alone.

if anyone was wondering, i’m currently reading published RPF about F. Scott Fitzgerald for *checks notes* my job, so that’s how my life is going.

#i’m not getting PAID to do it unfortunately #but i am getting an absolutely insane emotional experience #and i’m only three chapters in so i’m sure there’s plenty more excitement to come!#the author CANNOT write dialogue for shit… he cannot emulate how real people speak and puts exposition dumps IN the dialogue #and his descriptions are clunky and could have used some more polishing #he’s not great at showing instead of telling #or like. he IS - but he’ll show and then IMMEDIATELY tell #which is just SO disrespectful to the audience imo #and/or the sign of a lack of confidence in the writer #so bad either way #and literally the reason i was annoyed about that one movie earlier #so like. 🤷🤷#at least the movie had better dialogue #but i think that’s mainly because [redacted] just says whatever the fuck he wants #i know this because i do programs the same way - i can spot a fellow vibes-based speaker easily #it’s good but also MASSIVELY distracting because it reminds me of myself so i get self-conscious 😂😂

tbh it's kind'a sad that wizards in rpg-style media are all 1 flavor. how did a class with such cool, wild possibilities consistently get boiled down to "character with underhanded ulterior motives that's on the brink of going mad with power" with only slight variations in execution. that's so boring. let me play my conjuration mailman that wants to learn teleportation to more efficiently do their job and not accidentally blow up the world and i'll show you how it's done

From what you said about people complaining about Ashton going in the lava quickly that he went right away, bit he waited so long in the discussion and for a bunch of buffs, what are people complaining about?

It was all very short complaints without a large amount of detail so I can't speak to their reasoning. I suspect it's the usual "why is a show with 7 main characters not centered on My Personal Favorite Character all the time" attitude; I think the people involved also dislike Taliesin's playstyle, which I disagree with but is fine for them to think, though that's something to be very thoughtful about when posting in the main tag. Due to the delicate etiquette of Tumblr (and, to be honest, the entirely justified annoyance one feels when some absolute random person you've never talked to is like WHY ARE YOU POSTING THIS IN THE MAIN TAG, an annoyance I have felt many a time) I decided to write a post about why I happened to respect Ashton's decision.
