Christopher, Justin, and Ryan are members of the Gargoyle Order, soldiers fighting in the angels war against the demonic supernatural evils of the world to protect human kind. Through the years they lost comrades and now just the three of them remain in their little town.

Now, Ricky and Vinny are moving into their church, stirring up old and new feelings, along with the past, posing the challenge of navigating this new chapter in their lives.

Chapter Three

Ricky had enjoyed the evening cooking with Vinny, everything was perfect and a fair majority had been unpacked. His blue eyes looked her over, “Excited to start your coffee shop?” He questioned softly head tilted some when his hair fell out of his bun as he smiled at her tenderly.

She nodded, bright green eyes looking up at him, “Yes! I’ve been thinking about the menu- and I think I’m going to carry salads, sandwiches, and pastries. I really love the idea of roasting my own beans too but I wanna start easy on it. I’m gonna have the basics and then I’m going to experiment with different lattes-” she rambled her voice getting louder and louder as she practically vibrated in place. “What about you and the bar…? Coming up with some cocktails and figuring out what beers and wines you want to carry?”

“Absolutely. You know I have the experience for it. I definitely want to make grasshoppers regularly- but I was thinking about making some signature ones based off the Gargoyles and stuff… I’m gonna have a good selection of red wine and whiskey but I think I’m also going to carry a selection of mead-” he explained warmly to her just as excited with a timid but overjoyed smile on his lips. “It's hard to believe it's finally happening.”

Vinny nodded going a bit quiet her lips quirking some softly, eyes full of a mix of sorrow and heartache, “I know it’s not the easiest. You wanted them here so badly… but…” she swallowed and grabbed his hand lightly, squeezing lightly. “I know they’re proud of you- both of us.”

The elder nodded sadly, swallowing. His grandparents had passed a few months before. He felt guilt over using his inheritance to open the business and remodel the church. He still had plenty left… but he wished they were here instead. He knew it was silly. They both were older, his grandmother had passed before his grandfather who died of heart failure days later. Tears welled in his eyes remembering, eyes watering more and more. Vinny moved quickly to wrap her arms around him, holding his head to her chest. “I got you. I’m here. Let it out.”

Ryan, while he was here to keep watch over the Church, their home. It wasn’t much of a Church really, no longer a place of worship, to him, to them, it would always be a holy place. It was, after all, their home base, and they were warriors for the angels, warriors for heaven, and as such, this was holy ground, that was what mattered, right? Either way, he figured he could walk around, maybe wander the grounds a bit… see what their newest inhabitants were up to… not that he really needed to be all that close... Tilting his head and letting his senses reach out to listen in, Ryan felt himself deflate with Vinny’s words, wondering exactly what had happened with Ricky’s grandparents. He knew how much he loved them, how much they loved him.

Whispered words in Enochian fell from his lips, he knew to the mortals, even if they could hear him would hear nothing but gibberish, but he prayed for Ricky’s grandparents' souls. Wishing them safe passage on swift angel wings. Far better than becoming nothing but dust, which was what the likes of gargoyles had to look forward to when they were felled in battle by demons. Some think they ascend, others don't.. but Ryan.. no matter what the others try to tell him.. most days.. he just knows they turn to nothing but dust. Such was their fate.

Ricky was sobbing into Vinny’s chest, clinging to her like she was his lifeline as she pet his hair with tears in her eyes as she kissed his head. “It’s okay. It’s okay. I’m right here for you,” she murmured sniffling some. They had been her grandparents as well, taking her in without question when she had been kicked out. “They’re okay. They were amazing and wonderful.”

“I know- I kn…know… but I miss them. I miss them so much I can’t stand it, Vin. They were amazing, and so kind…I love them…” he whispered pulling Vinny onto his lap, still crying into her shoulder.

Vinny bit her lip for a moment, “Tell me about the signature drinks you wanna have on the menu-” she said after a moment, determined to distract him.

“W…wha-”

“What are the names you’ve come up with?” she said clearly.

“You don’t drink though-” he said confused, almost stunned by the demand.

“Just because I don’t do it often because of my alcoholic family, doesn’t mean I’m not going to help you run the bar.” she said firmly, “Just like you said you’d help me with the coffee shop. We’re in this together. We’re all we’ve got. We gotta support each other.”

The soft laugh that came from Rick filled the air lightly, and he smiled through his tears, telling her the drinks and his plan for testing them out and making them. That was one thing he adored about Vinny. She always knew how to snap him out of his sorrow and out of his thoughts with such ease. He would be lost if he didn’t have her.

Ryan couldn’t help but smirk a little. Christopher was going to have a coronary hearing about the bar plans more, not that he didn’t already know, but he did not really like the whole idea about alcohol and inebriation as a whole. It was safe to say, he wasn’t happy about the bar. Sacrificial wine was as close to drinking as the elder gargoyle ever really got, and that was only for blessings.

Hearing Vinny soothe Ricky, however, was something he admired. She used words and managed to bring him back from a spiral of emotional turmoil, in a way he hadn’t seen someone do in, in forever. Hold on to her Ricky, she was a good woman there, she’d treat you right, don’t be like other humans that took those around you for granted. They’d seen it too many times in the people that came into this Church, it was painful. Ricky wouldn’t though, he was always a good egg. 

Vinny pet his hair slowly, listening and committing every word to memory. “I think I can do that with some practice,” she answered warmly, playing with his long hair lovingly, twirling a lock of black hair between olive-toned fingers. “I think it’ll be fun… we can have a nice shop, and bar… and we can be happy and be ourselves… we can make them proud… I can name a coffee after them... and then they’ll always be around us... no matter what,” she promised, petting his cheek as he sighed contently, eyes fluttering softly as he melted into her. Food was long forgotten now as they cuddled awkwardly on the chair. 

“Princess… do you wanna sleep in the same bed tonight…?” he asked softly. “We don’t have to do anything. I just don’t want to be alone…” he breathed out gently, eyes fluttering as he breathed in her soft scent of lavender and honey. Beautiful… endearing… his best friend. His other half. His constant. 

She nodded slowly, smiling softly, “Yeah. I’d like that. Just us… wanna watch Gargoyles?” she asked out of the blue.

His laugh was much louder, “Yes- Yes please. I could totally go for watching Goliath dealing with angst.” he snorted, lovingly. He did truly love the show. It was his all-time favorite… maybe gargoyles and living in the church as a child rotted his brain somehow… maybe it was the religious trauma. Whatever it was… he was home. Here with his best friend and his gargoyles.

She giggled and got up, cleaning up the food. As soon as she was done, he was dragging her off giggling towards Ricky’s room. Getting comfy and curled up in the bed, the pair melted in delight, the classic show playing on the TV, savoring the gentle silence that filled the night. After so much change and all the work… the pair were exhausted, drifting off together with the show still playing.

Ryan, however, was still wide awake. Despite being semi-aware during the day in the stone, being in the stone, most of the days passed in a meditative state, even if today had been all kinds of something else. He sighed, reeling his senses back to himself as the pair planned their personal night together, not wanting to intrude on the rest of their private evening. Even if they were planning on not having to ‘do anything’ exactly, humans, from his experience, always seemed to gravitate a certain way when sharing a bed. 

That was until a simple question caught his attention and Vinny’s soft voice might as well have yelled it through the entire rafters up to the rectory…

Wanna watch Gargoyles?

There was a show, on their television, about gargoyles? Dammit.. Ryan was so tempted to walk right down there and ask if he could join in to watch.. But Christopher would have his head.. So instead he sat by the door and listened… just listened to what he could until it stopped because the pair had drifted off and whatever was playing came to an end… Damn. He wondered if they could get a TV in the rectory?

On the 9th day of Christmas, my true love gave to me… 9 Family Photos!

Some of these are a little shorter than others... Sorry, I got stressed by the deadline and didn't have a whole lot of inspiration.

🖤‼️Port Mafia family photos? Chaos. This (probably awful) idea was proposed by none other than the head of the PM himself, Mori.

🖤‼️Challenge number one: getting Aku into festive clothing for the picture. He is ridiculously stubborn when it comes to his outfit, and no amount of pleading can get him into anything other than his black coat. I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that this is not a challenge you will win.

🖤‼️Challenge number two: getting everyone in the damn picture. The poor photographer is almost in tears by the end with how uncooperative everyone is, also he can’t say anything cause this is the MAFIA and he could be murdered.

🖤‼️Challenge number three: Aku refuses to smile. You also will not win this one, he’s just gonna look like the grumpy emo teenager that every family has.

🖤‼️It's… an interesting photo. And it's definitely going up on your refrigerator!

💛🤠He’s definitely the one that suggested family photos. Misono fought him on it for so long before Lily convinced the angry runt it was a great idea to have Christmas pictures with all the servamps and eves.

💛🤠It's chaos. It's just a whole mess. Kruo doesn't want to be there, Licht is kicking Lawless around Mahiru is TRYING and failing to keep the peace. Mikuni himself is trying to set up the camera, which isn't going well.

💛🤠It takes like, 15 tries to finally get a decent picture because Lily keeps trying to strip for the camera.

💛🤠In hindsight, he really should have just settled for a picture with you and Jeje.

Macbeth

🤍🖤We’re gonna do this with Crime Sorciere because I sincerely doubt that Brain wanted to organize Christmas pictures for the Oracion Seis. Anyway, Jellal wanted Christmas cards to send to Fairy Tail (mostly Erza, let’s be honest). As such, he is slightly obsessive about making this Christmas pictures perfect.

🤍🖤Macbeth is sick and tired of Christmas pictures within five minutes. It’s so boring! He’s gonna fall asleep! Richard and Meredy are honestly the only ones that are ok with this. The others are sick of Jellal’s obsessiveness.

🤍🖤By the time Jellal has gotten everyone where he wants them, Macbeth has indeed fallen asleep on your shoulder. You can gently shake him awake or wait for Jellal to notice and watch the world burn (he won't notice until after the picture is taken).

🤍🖤Jellal ends up with a nice card regardless, and Macbeth gets a nap out of it so it's all good.

Freed Justine

❤️🎄Thunder Legion Christmas photos are a riot, honestly. We’re gonna say this is during Laxus’s banishment because I don’t want to include him.

❤️🎄Freed organizes the entire procedure, and Bickslow makes it his personal mission to mess it up as much as he can. You probably side with Freed on this issue because it’s Christmas and you don’t want to stress him out too much, the Christmas tree incident was already enough stress.

❤️🎄Bickslow insists that Freed wear Christmas lights and ornaments in his hair. He pesters the poor green bean until he relents. Bickslow himself rocks a full Santa costume! Ever is decked out in a fancy Christmas dress, and she probably got one for you as well!

❤️🎄The photo ends up looking great!

🖤👮Normal family photos with him! Nothing crazy, just a nice picture of the two of you for his parents.

Yesterday, Justin attempted to speak with the leaders of the Goblin camp. Unfortunately his brand of diplomacy involves him firmly telling the goblins that he hates what they're about, and aggravating the entire camp at once.

But, the team persevered. And there was a party. One in which his new party all seemed to want to get him alone. He'd rather be singing the praises of dragon daddy than going on dates.

Lae'zel disagreed.

Later, they came across an Owlbear cub.

(why was this familiar?)

(is that why he can't find his mother, except in his dreams?)

Gale let him in, after that. A story of love and ambition and a corruption in his soul.

The last time Justin allowed himself to feel pride, he killed a party member and his best friend's parents. Gale is an alien quantity to him. But he will keep this wizard safe. Wizards are so small and delicate. Do not worry Gale. You will live through this.

And just as he learned more about Gale, he learned more about Astarion.

He should not keep this man like a pet, the way Cazador did. He is aware. But Justin, the professional vampire boogeyman of Barovia, feels...attached to this spawn. So Justin feeds him. He takes care of him. He feels confident, in the way a person might feel confident in their dog, that Astarion will only bite if asked.

(but why did Astarion ask to sleep with him too?)

Even as he adopts Astarion, Justin himself has become the emotional support animal of other party members. Shadowheart, for example, is prickly but her actions do not align with a Sharran, he thinks. He has never met one, but assumes a Sharran would behave similarly to a worshipper of his hated Tiamat. And not stand so close to him that they constantly start combat in the same square.

(Selûne is the twin and hated enemy of Shar. Bahamut is the twin and hated enemy of Tiamat. Once, early after he had lost his oath, Justin had heard a voice calling to him in the darkness, pretending to be Bahamut, trying to become the new source of his power. Justin has a better idea than most of why Shadowheart, who loves small animals and was anxious about doing penance for protecting the Tieflings even though her first response was to save them, might follow Shar.)

At some point between the party and the Underdark, he let Astarion and Shadowheart cut his hair, change his clothes, and clean up his beard for the first time in ten years. It hasn't made much difference. But they washed some of the old Barovmart Brand Baked Beans stains out of his shirt and fixed his moustache.

(he didn't see his parents in the mirror.)

More questions for Gale. Like, is this why you cook for us?

And then, one night, a surprise. An attempted murder in camp. How Barovian.

Justin is not used to being the peace making party member. He is the party member that sniffs new companions, breaks plates when asked to take meals with the morally grey, and has to leave buildings to stop himself from smiting the evil, when his party would rather talk to them. One of the reasons he fell out with his party was their decision to go to Strahd's castle for dinner, instead of a fight.

But he didn't want to lose either Lae'zel or Shadowheart. Lae'zel's eyes and cold green skin make him think of dragons. Shadowheart's elf eyes reflecting in the dark make him think of dragons also. My Take:

I am delighted that Lori Loughlin will be starring in her FIRST Christmas movie for Great American Family THIS Christmas season! She and her co-star, James Tupper, starred together earlier this year in the Great American Winter film for Great American Family titled Fall Into Winter. That was such a wonderful story and Lori and James had a fantastic connection on screen; therefore, I'm glad Great American Family decided to pair the two together again!

It's especially nice to see that Lori's Christmas movie isn't just about Santa, mistletoe kisses, and sleigh rides, but instead, it will highlight an important charity that is near and dear to her heart, Project Angel Food, whose mission is serving others and giving of one's time for those in need. That is truly the best Christmas gift we can give others.

Brandon Bussi, Goaltender (Providence Bruins): Signed by the Boston Bruins as a free agent out of Western Michigan University,  has been one of the AHL’s top goaltenders throughout his rookie season, posting a record of 21-5-4 while ranking second in the league with a .925 save percentage and fourth with a 2.38 goals-against average. The native of Sound Beach, N.Y., did not lose in regulation on home ice until Apr. 1 and has made at least 30 saves in a game on 14 occasions, going 10-1-3 in those contests. Bussi represented Providence at the AHL All-Star Classic in February. Ryker Evans, Defenseman (Coachella Valley Firebirds): The second player ever selected in an NHL Draft by the Seattle Kraken (35th overall in 2021), Ryker Evans has totaled 44 points in 68 games for Coachella Valley this season, leading all AHL rookies with 38 assists and ranking second in plus/minus with a plus-21 rating. Evans has also helped anchor the Firebirds’ power play, collecting 18 assists on the man advantage. A 21-year-old native of Calgary, Alta., Evans participated in the 2023 AHL All-Star Classic. Jeremie Poirier, Defenseman (Calgary Wranglers): A third-round pick by the Calgary Flames in the 2020 NHL Draft, Jeremie Poirier has collected nine goals, and 32 assists for 41 points in 66 games for the league-leading Wranglers in 2022-23. The puck-moving defender is also a perfect 4-for-4 in shootout attempts this season, the best mark in the entire AHL. Poirier, 20, is a native of Valleyfield, Que., and turned pro after four junior seasons with Saint John (QMJHL). Ethen Frank, Forward (Hershey Bears): Ethen Frank is tied for the AHL lead among rookies with 27 goals and has totaled 46 points in 56 games for Hershey this season. Undrafted out of Western Michigan University, where he led the nation in goals in 2021-22, Frank signed with the Bears on Apr. 11, 2022, and earned an NHL contract with the Washington Capitals for 2023-24. The 25-year-old native of Papillion, Neb., was named the AHL Rookie of the Month for January, and he set a league record in the fastest skater event at the 2023 AHL All-Star Skills Competition with a lap of 12.915 seconds. Tye Kartye, Forward (Coachella Valley Firebirds): The AHL’s top-producing rookie with 55 points (27 goals, 28 assists) in 69 games, Tye Kartye, has been a catalyst for a Coachella Valley offense that ranks second in the league in scoring. The 21-year-old native of Kingston, Ont., is also second among all rookie forwards in plus/minus with a plus-17 rating, and his seven game-winning goals are tops for first-year players. Kartye was named the AHL Rookie of the Month for March after putting up 11 goals and 17 points in 15 contests. Georgii Merkulov, Forward (Providence Bruins): Providence’s team leader in scoring, Georgii Merkulov, has registered 53 points in 64 games for the Bruins, good for second among all AHL rookies. He has netted 11 of his 23 goals on the power play, and his stretch of six consecutive games with a goal in February matched the longest such streak in the league this season. A 22-year-old native of Ryazan, Russia, Merkulov signed with Boston on Apr. 9, 2022, after leading all NCAA freshmen in goals (20) at Ohio State University last season.
