ezlo suffers from the unfortunate case of "his obligatory dialogue at first glance can come off as conceited and mean and if you don't go out of your way to constantly prod him for his optional dialogue where he gets increasingly sillier then you're just left with the impression that he IS conceited and mean. which is entirely untrue but unfortunately 98% of players are not going to do this so it's just a general consensus of 'wow i hate ezlo he's so rude to a poor little kid like link.'" and this is hilarious considering that on one occasion link states himself within the game that he's gonna send ezlo's ass to the cleaners. he knows how to take it and dish it right back out. and also when ezlo DOES try to be nice to him by sincerely expressing his gratitude for what link is doing for him, link cuts him off and tells him to STOP being nice because it's freaking him out. he's not a poor little ANYTHING

Wrong.

The Dead God's Pad appeared to be in stasis - as if the previous Conductor's time stop powers were in effect. However, it's a place that awakens when a Soul enters - lights and color return, jukeboxes whirl to life, and angel fish swim up to happily greet the visitor.

Gone for three months, so many variables and values had changed. Returning to a familiar place, minus familiar faces, bound in a unfamiliar body...

The result: wrong.

The first bit was influenced by the DGP when it's time stopped during the battle with Kitaniji and just wondering what happens to the DGP before and during NEO, and explore what safe places Minamimoto might hide away in.

The bit with Coco was based on this except from the official NEO: The World Ends With You guidebook, from KHInsider's translation:

—In the original TWEWY, Minamimoto had patterns on his arm. Why did they disappear this time around?

Kando: Minamimoto was once Taboo, but Coco revived him in "A NEW DAY", so something about that must have made him be reborn as a "beautiful Minamimoto". In fact, when it comes to this, it's clear that the Minamimoto we see here has become something different from the one we knew.

It's also why I gave him two whiskers here. His NEO sprite has two whiskers, when his OG self had three. So it's an extension on Coco's "beautiful Minamimoto". Although by the time NEO occurs, I'm sure he could have picked up a new pair of whiskers and re-tattooed his arm, but you know, it's symbolic and stuff!

Edit: It's been brought up that he does have 3 whiskers in some of his official art. (And I forgot, his model too, oops. It's been a while since I did a check over.) So here's a proper acknowledgement. And... I dunno? I looked at his sprites and some of the official art way back and had decided I wanted to address what I thought was his 2 whisker state in the A Healthy Dose of Chaos AU which this comic can lead up to. In my head it stuck with me and I thought I had been consistent in my own art, but I guess I haven't too, so that's also my bad.

It's been a hot hot hot minute since I posted about my TTRPG characters (or posted anything at all really), but look who it is again!

For as long as he can remember, Nova was raised by the "Order of the Ever Watchful," or "The Everwatch," a knightly order focused on aiding others and preserving knowledge. Taught and nurtured by the men and women who made up the order, Nova longed for the day he would finally be old enough to be declared a knight of The Everwatch himself.

But that day never came. Instead, a year before Nova's eighteenth birthday, the order was wiped off the face of the continent. Nova ended up being captured by the mercenaries who did the deed, and was held captive for a whole year before he finally managed to escape. When he returned to the tower he called home, all he found was rubble and the rotting remains of those who had raised him.

Never having been one who could process grief, Nova simply shut down for a day, lying amidst the ruins of his home.

so you know how in DA2 companions have all this combat dialogue? ages and ages ago I wrote out what I think my DA OC's would say if they were a companion. here's that for Ren, my beloved warden and total bitch <3

Blue: I start to think about a lot of stuff at night… Like Pokémon and what'll happen in the future…

I am once again thinking of data greeting ideas that no one is asking for

Okay okay okay. So I'm insane about this game and I need somewhere to just. sort my thoughts

So, I am on my second playthrough, and I am definitely the kind of player that likes to replay the story and make the same choices, just exploring extra stuff I missed the first time. For example, my first pt I skipped the Gith Creche and missed a big chunk of Lae'zel's character quest, so this playthrough I did it. But I didn't like kill the tieflings when I sided with them in my first playthrough or something like that.

I bring this up because it's made for a very interesting situation regarding Astarion. See, the first time I played through the game, I considered Zephyr and Astarion to be pretty good friends in the end who butted heads a lot due to their conflicted moral compasses. He never got more than like mid-level approval of her, and his dialogue reflected that.

This playthrough has been different though, after a certain point he started calling her "my dear" and his "favorite traveling companion" in a sort of... heartbreakingly unnerving way? Imo, at least, but its beside the point. And then, when his siblings try to kidnap him at the Elfsong, when Zephyr asks if he has sympathy for them, he says "No one said a kind word word to me, you're the only one. Not everyone can be like you, you're special." (paraphrasing) Which is WILDLY different from how he reacted in my first pt, where he disapproved and basically said "Everything's different now, Cazador's going to be so mad once I kill him" (paraphrasing). And checking at this scene, his approval of Zephyr was, unexpectedly, mid-level. Around the same it would have been in my first playthrough.

And so I theorize that it must stem from the only extra thing I did this pt and not last pt regarding Astarion: I encountered the drow who wants him to bite her and I did not pressure him to do it. My first pt I just completely missed her, but in my current, we had kind of a sweet heart-to-heart afterward, and that's when the "my dear"s started.

If I'm correct, that's extremely cool to me, because it means that the drow encounter specifically meant something to him. Apart from the gameplay mechanic of "approval", he remembers this specific time Zephyr treated him like a person and not a tool and it left an impact on him and changed how he sees her. That is such organic character writing and the definition of companion reactivity, and is another example of how much care went into this game.
