hi! bagels is currently taking a hiatus, so i'll answer this one.

as for the more in-depth on how this is done, i'll put that under cut for those that just wanna look at colorful scavengers!

what we do is we use screentogif and set the gif size to whatever we need it to record, i'll use these six scavengers i have spawned currently as an example. the mod used to make foreground and background the same color is greyscreen!

i'm not the best with words or good at explaining and neither am i native english so excuse any weird wording ^^; basically you can click, hold and then drag the boundaries to fit what you're gonna record so it has it all inside the boundaries. framerate is always set to 60

then you record for however long you want, and click the square which stops the recording, and then it should open the editor!

now, go to the file tab, click "save as", check enable transparency and "select which color to display as transparent" and colorpick the background color greyscreen is set to! (i'm not sure if mine is default but it should be)

..and your gif should be transparent and look like the scav gif at the top of the post! hopefully that helps :)

Yes, I made that gif. That is my skin

What you need is the greyscreen mod and screen2gif, and optimally testing arenas too

You also need to UNFULLSCREEN rain world so that the pixels don't get antialiased and are crisp

Once you download screen2gif, get to recording WITH the grey background already there

As you save your gif, make sure to ENABLE TRANSPARENCY and make it the greyscreen color bg!

And that's how I make my transparent gifs (or just gifs in general)

heres the mohawk guy! hes so round... the description of how to make the gifs is long so ill put it under a cut :)

ok first, @soaricarus is the one who taught me how to make them so all credit goes to it! it's great :D

first, download screentogif if you dont already have it! thats how you make the actual gifs! also, while saving, put the sampling slider to 1/best

second, the mods u need!

so if u wanna spawn a specific scavenger you probably need devconsole, and to spawn a specific scav with that enter "spawn Scavenger ID.-1.(scav id here)". next, beastmaster and mouse drag are also really useful but not technically needed? also testing arenas is really useful! greyscreen is needed if u want it to be transparent, parasitic slugcat so it focuses on the scav, and finally eyebrow raise mod! i know it sounds silly i thought it was silly at first too!

ok now to set up the mods! i forget if i needed specific setup for the other mods but i know what i did on eyebrow raise! so first i removed all the sound effects because i really didnt need them and enabled the experimental zoom. when you click on the last panel you can mess with how much it zooms in, i have mine set at 15 and the duration at 10 seconds!

ok so now open up the arena as parasitic slugcat and spawn your scag! sadly to make the gifs you have to kill them , i usually do it by right clicking on them with the mouse drag mod then i go into their little area and you take over them by clicking the eat thing near them. now spawn another scug using beastmaster or devconsole. ("spawn SlugNPC") and click your activate button for the eyebrow raise to test your zoom! you can fiddle with it more to see with you like it. now if you want the transparent bg click the button you used to activate greyscreen and open up your screentogif! make sure your zoomed in scag is centered in the middle, and also make sure not to get your mouse in the frame! you can see it in the finished gif. then after you film it you can save it! if you want a transparent background, while saving click "enable transparency", then "select which color to display as transparent", and then click the greyscreen color! ok phew that was long but i hope it was helpful! if you have any more questions feel free to ask :)

I use a mod called Greyscreen which allows backgrounds to be one single color, and Testing Arenas to help out with that!

The program I use for making gifs is ScreenToGif which allows you to remove the background!

You're stuck in a cycle, a repeating pattern. You want to make gifs where the background is transparent in rain world.

Know that this does not make you special - every living thing shares that same frustration. From the microbes in the processing strata to me, who am, if you excuse me, godlike in comparison.

The good news first. In a way, I know what you are searching for:

Testing Arenas: this mod essentially makes your job easier especially the entity arena but technically you don't need it.

Grey Screen: This mod allows me to make my backgrounds transparent using a trick with Screen To Gif

Dev Console: How you spawn creatures by id is done using this command: "spawn *insert creature name here* ID.-1.*insert id here*" Plus Dev Console has many other useful uses ie. invulnerability

Visible ID: Basically just makes ID pop up above stuff and entities so you can write down the id to spawn later

Me: *sees cool scavenger* Lizard: "lol ima kill this bitch" Me: "ID mod activate" Lizard: *runs of with scav* Me: *spam spawns same scav twenty times* Lizard: "OH SHI-" (true story btw)

Screen To Gif: Its an app and the title is pretty self explanatory just set rain world to its native resolution, size the recording window down to fit, turn greyscreen on in rain world, set your recording fps to 60, open recording to edit, edit it however you need to finally when saving select transparecy, select "select which colour to make transparent and select the greyscreen colour.

Mouse Drag: Allows you to drag things WITH YO MOUSE. That scav thinkin he can fight that king vulture? MOUSE DRAG. That lizard thinkin you're food? MOUSE DRAG. Pebbles thinkin he can insta kill you?! MOUSE DRAG! Plus it has a menu if you right click, if you right click on a creature or object what you select will only happen to it but if right click on nothing what you select effects everything in the room, options pause / play, tame (if possible), revive/heal, kill, delete.

I sure hope this doesn't scare Monk away... Also, I don't know what I was thinking when I picked the rainy map to record the transparent GIF. The rain just makes that harder to do without destroying the creature in question. Natural light emission that the greyscreen doesn't prevent is also annoying to deal with.

Every Tool an Actor Needs to Smash a Self-Tape Audition

1. Mobile Phone or Camera

You’ve got to love the 21st Century. Most of us already have mobile phone that lets us shoot HD video. An iPhone is expensive, as is a Samsung but the image quality is superb and it auto-fucoses onto whatever is in front of the screen. A camcorder works just as well. You know the ones you see all those casting directors and their assistants use when you go to an audition? They’re relatively cheap in comparison to a modern mobile phone and you can even flip the LCD screen so that you can see yourself! Perfect for solo filming. They start at roughly £150 but you can get a second hand one on eBay. The best brands are Sony, Panasonic and Canon. If you really have the money and want to invest in a great photography camera as well, then you can get a DSLR. Just remember that your focusing skills are going to have to be on point, especially if you are filming alone.

2. Tripod

You’ve got the camera but balancing it on a 5ft stack of books and in-between two folders just isn’t cutting it. You need a tripod. They’re easily adjustable and can be used indoors and outdoors. You can get a really cheap on on Amazon for £14.99 or an expensive one from Manfrotto that’s made out of Titanium and other space age shuttle parts. They both do the same thing. If you are using a phone to film, make sure you get the appropriate mount for it. 

3. Grey Screen or Blue Screen

Slow down James Cameron. We’re not shooting Avatar 10. What we are doing is trying to hide all those Justin Bieber or Tupac Shakur posters in your bedroom. Or that dodgy painting your brother put up in the living room. Or just a plain, boring white background. These grey or blue screens usually come with a stand and provide a nice contrast on camera. Plus, it makes it your self-tape a little more professional. You don’t need to spend a fortune. I spent about £30 on mine.

4. Good Editing Software

If you are making a lot of these self-tapes then it’s probably time to invest in a decent video editing software. I use Final Cut because its straight forward, lets me make nice titles and I use it for other projects. If you have an iMac or MacBook then you get iMovie for free. Luckily in this day and age you probably will never have to pay for a video editing software. A quick Google search will bring up many free editing programs.

5. Laptop or Desktop

This is probably the most expensive item on the list. You don’t need to spend a silly amount of money though. You just need something that can handle the video editing software. 4GB of Ram and 2Ghz processor should do it. A big screen would also help. 13inches should be fine. Once again, eBay will save the day for those of us on a budget. There are various online video platforms that you can upload your self-tape too, like Vimeo and Youtube. You can also transfer your files to the casting director or your agent using WeTransfer.

Remember to keep the shot tight (above the chest). Have good lighting. Learn your lines. Prep for the scene like a real audition. Pick a quiet spot. Meditate if you have to. Good luck!

Today, I f*cked up by helping an elderly taxi driver with his new phone.

Let me start with my personal rule when riding taxis: when the taxi driver tries to strike up a conversation with you, always reply and try to maintain the dialogue, especially late at night. Like a lot of you, I’m introverted and little socially awkward but I do this because they might be working a long shift and the conversation helps them stay alert.

Now, on to my TIFU.

About half an hour past midnight, I took a cab home, a 15-minute ride at most. The taxi driver was an elderly Chinese man, and he started asking me the usual questions like what I do for a living and where I’m from. He eventually mentioned that he bought this new Samsung phone recently. I told him that I had the same phone and he immediately asked if I could help him with a problem he’s been having. Specifically, he installed his old SD card to his new phone, but some of the videos in the card can’t be played anymore and some can only be played until a certain point and then stop. I immediately thought that it was probably caused by a corrupt or damaged SD card (he did mention that it was a very old card) and told him to replace it when he gets a chance. He asked if I could have a look at it anyway, and I agreed, thinking that I’m being helpful to an old man who’s struggling with new technology.

He stopped the taxi on the driveway of my apartment, right in front of the entrance and handed me his phone. The first thing I noticed was that the touchscreen was not very responsive. I immediately showed him how to increase the sensitivity setting of the touchscreen to accommodate for having a screen protector and he was so thankful and it made me feel good that I helped improve this old man’s life to some small extent.

That feeling didn’t last long, though.

He then started to show me where the broken videos are by opening his google photos app. I tried my best not to pry on this old man’s private life, but as he scrolled through the app, I started to get this sinking feeling. I noticed that he had a lot of photos of this young woman, who I assumed was his daughter at first… until I realized that a lot of them are racy pictures.

I tried to remain positive by thinking that it’s good that he’s still able to enjoy camgirls at that age. He eventually got to the videos he mentioned earlier and handed me his phone. I tried to open the videos and indeed, they seem to be broken as the phone just goes greyscreen when I try to open them. He then told me to check the video that seemed okay when it starts playing but stops at some point. He opened the first video from that day and moved the time slider to about halfway through the video to a shot of him walking past the camera… butt-naked. The shot started with his butt right in front of the camera, so close that I could see the wrinkles on them. And to top it off, after his butt left the frame, I saw that behind him was a bed, with the woman in the pictures earlier lying on top of it.

After the shock of seeing his wrinkly old manbutt faded, I realized that I was trying to help him recover his sex video with this girl and that I probably shouldn’t touch that phone anymore. I immediately handed his phone back to him like it was a hot potato while at the same time repeating my earlier recommendation that he should probably change his SD card.

He did genuinely sound thankful for my advice, and I was about to leave when he asked if I could take his business card, as he was looking for tenants for his apartment and maybe I could refer his place to some of my friends. Desperate to end this very awkward situation I just agreed and took his card. Glad that this whole situation was finally over, I was about to leave once again when he asked if he could also get my number in case he was in the area we could grab a coffee outside. I was going to give him a fake number, but he then told me to just call his phone since I already had his card. Not knowing what else to do, I begrudgingly dialed his number. After another round of goodbyes, I got inside the building as fast as I could and washed my hands immediately.

(Edit for additional context: I'm a guy living in one of the safest countries in the world so I didn't feel threatened all. It was just an incredibly awkward and weird experience.)

Tl;dr: Helped an elderly taxi driver with his new phone, ended up being shown his wrinkly old manbutt and then giving him my number.
