scar - ringmaster. very charismatic, hype people up, scam them <3

ren - also a ringmaster. also charismatic and hype.

grian - acrobat. trapieze in the sky kind of thing. maybe fire? probably fire.

pearl - also an acrobat, sibling act with grian. sun and moon theme heehee. could also be an axe/knife thrower

mumbo - magician. cuz redstone is magic to me :)

impulse - technician. always knows how to play the games he plays, keeps the group from falling apart, so.

bdubs - horse trainer. does tricks/acrobatics on the horses. i forget what thats called tho.

gem - knife thrower. maybe ethos on the wheel that shes throwing knives at.

zedaph - the clown <3 oli would be the clown but this is hermitcraft. or zedaph could be a musician... with creepers...

tango - lion trainer! makes them jump thru hoops of fire. also eats and juggles fire. lots of fire :P hes very fire themed and wrangles ravagers so makes sense

doc - special effects guy. like really special effects.

I’m so unbelievably proud of Scar. Hello hello, I am back to bully you with questions (/lh), this time about Travelling thieves:

I'm trying to understand how orders work. We learn that a lot of orders are based on "don't" (i.e. don't fly too high, don't touch the ground). Similarly, I assume orders with "do" (do the dishes, etc.) are common too. I can also see orders with "let" (let them pass through, let me go, etc.) being said a lot. Now, it would be interesting to know if orders are bound to words like these, or maybe to the emotions behind the statement, or simply to the fact whether the master wants to speak an order or not.

Let's consider the following situation: Grian, still having his slave values internalised while still being a stubborn birb, refuses to accept help from Scar. Scar knows that if Grian doesn't accept the help, the situation would turn worse. So he yells, quite desperately, might I add: 'Let me help you!'

Could Scar in this scenario order Grian to accept the help against his own will?

Alrighty, lemme try to explain this properly…orders aren’t bound to words, but to intention. The example I’ve given before is let’s say Scar has a really bad migraine, and Grian and Mumbo are talking to loudly, so he yells at them, “Shut up!” Scar in this moment is not intending for it to be an order, but he really does want them to be quiet, and so the order takes hold. Grian wouldn’t be able to speak again till the order was lifted, if he tried the runes would activate and punish him. That’s the other thing to keep in mind! The collars don’t force obedience like a puppet, they just trigger a punishment if the wearer goes against the order. The wearer can still refuse, but then it becomes a matter of how long they can endure the pain, and eventually they break. So in the specific scenario you’ve presented, sure, it might trigger the collar, but then it would just hurt Grian till he gave in, and that would do exactly the opposite of what Scar was hoping for…but yes, Scar could order Grian to accept help against his will. Both Scar or Mumbo could do that. Even if it hasn’t come up yet, they have a tremendous amount of power over him, something Grian is hyper aware of, but Scar and Mumbo haven’t truly grasped yet. Don’t worry, we’ll get there 😉

The Ariana Griande concert

Some au facts for this certain one-shot

Allay Grian! (I felt like Allay grian made the most sense to be a singer cos there like musical??)

His voice sounds different due to Allay stuff- makes it higher pitched?

Hermits know he's an Allay but no one knows he's Ariana Griande (Not even pearl- very important for this)

I've decided. When Grian is just grian he is he/they and when he's being Ariana Griande has she/they

This is my longest one yet! (1303 words)

“Pearl! Pearl! I got them!” Gem came sprinting round the corner, clutching four tickets in her hands

 “Let me see!” Scar pushed Pearl to the side wanting to see the tickets, 

“Gem! You're the best!How did you get four VIP tickets?!” If Scars Vex wings worked then you best believe he would be floating

. “I have friends.” She smiled, handing the tickets out to her friends before pocketting her own. “We are forever in your debt Gem.” Scar bowed down, almost hitting Mumbo in the nose on his way back up. 

“What are you doing?” The voice made all four jump, having not noticed Grian get closer, the small allay was trying to climb Mumbo to see what was in his hands but was failing due to the suit material. “Gem just got us V.I.P tickets!” He made sure to take a pause after each letter in VIP, Grian just looked at him, sliding down the suit. “To who?” 

“Ariana Griande, of course!” Pearl responded before Mumbo could.

Now, they’re not sure what they expected from Grian but it certainly wasn’t for him to lay on the floor and sigh in what seemed to be sadness, “Grian?? You all good down there?” Gem put her arm out to help him get up- he took this as a chance to climb onto Gems shoulders instead, whatever her fault. “Yep. I'm fine.” Scar however seemed offended that Grian had responded this way to such an idol, “G, do you not like Ariana? She is the best idol in the world and you need to agree.” Grians response was a sad sigh as he hopped of Gems shoulder and fluttered towards his base. (Can you blame the guy tho? He just found out four of his friends were going to be at his concert, pressure much.)

Ok, so it turns out Gem is Amazing. They had front row seats to the concert and would be able to see everything perfectly, she had managed to get her hands on some merch so all four were decked out.

Gem was wearing a nice laced white shirt with a baby pink skirt, her hair was put high pigtails (One of Ariana's signature hairstyles) with two bows clipped on.

Pearl was wearing a pink shoulderless shirt, a bandana wrapped around her wrist, and her hair had been put into a plait with pink ribbon.

Mumbo was wearing pink glasses (Vampires don't do well with the lights), he had a pink jacket on which was covered with pins.

Scar, who was arguably the most enthusiastic, was rocking a pink cowboy hat, heart shaped glasses, a half buttoned up white and pink striped shirt (Think limited life) and had a bag covered in pins, bandanas and keychains.

So yea. They were decked out.

They had gotten there early and had been waiting for around half an hour (Though all would claim it was worth it) and now, finally the lights were dimming around the stadium  signalling the start was near, all the chatter quieted down as people looked to the stage. 

“I'm so excited!” Scar whispered from beside Mumbo

“Scar shush. I'm concentrating.” Pearl elbowed him, making him shush,.Just in time as well because suddenly a bright pink light appeared on the stage and a platform rose from underneath the stage, and there she was! Ariana Griande rose from the stage, wearing a sleeveless white shirt and a gorgeous red and pink skirt, her hair was put in high pigtails with ribbons wrapped around. It was genius really, the pink she had claimed as ‘hers’ matched the light blue of her wings and the small horns in between her hair.

“Good evening Ladies, Gents, Hybrids and Humans!” The four screamed at her entrance, waving their hands in the hopes she would notice them, “I hope everyones having a lovely night, and hopefully you're happy to be here!” She began walking to the front of the stage waving at audience members as she spoke, “We have an action packed night ahead of us, so first let’s just have a little talk!” She gave a young girl a high five, causing the girl to scream, someone threw a poster up luckily, Ariana caught it before it hit her, “Guys, please don't throw stuff.” Ariana began talking and walking again, just chatting normally as if one would with a friend about how her day had been and occasionally pointing the mic towards someone else to let them respond. 

She got to Scar, Mumbo, Pearl and Gem and gave them each a high five and smile, and honestly they looked like they were on the edge of passing out. “All right everyone! I think it's time we start!”

The concert was around 2 hours long and honestly they wished it was longer. But now it was time for the best part. “We get to meet her!? Gem I dont think ive said it enough but you're amazing.” Pearl was smiling madly, hugging Gem as if she was going to disappear, “Yep, Yep I know- pearl. I can't. Breath.” Pearl immediately let go, making sure she was okay before running to go find the VIP line. “Pearl, wait up!” Mumbo called after her.

The three met her at the line, she had gotten near the front and was talking to one of the body guards, who seemed to know her? “Pearl! We're here!” Gem waved her hands in the air to get Pearl's attention as they got closer. 

“Ah! You guys made it! Look, meet my friend Martyn!” The three introduced themselves to Pearl's friend, “Martyn I wish we could talk longer but it's nearly our turn!” Martyn just laughed and gave Pearl a hug, promising that they would have to meet up sometime.

Scar dragged them forwards once it was their turn to meet Ariana Griande.

“Hello! Welcome, it's lovely to meet you!” Ariana smiled at them happily, from where she was sitting. “Hello! We are such big fans!!” Gem led the group to sit on the seats opposite Ariana. “It's great to see you so enthusiastic. Is there anything you'd like? I can do signatures, photos, could just chat, or really anything you’d like- under reason of course.”  There were probably loads of things she shouldn't do, but c'mon. They were gonna do anything bad. Hopefully. “Can you sign our photos? Please??” Mumbo had been put in charge of holding all four photos, and happily handed them over to Ariana to sign them. “I am so going to brag about this to Grian.” Scar said, causing Ariana to chuckle, The five talked for a bit, it was mainly just questions like if she had any pets, her favourite song she had made, just the normal things you ask your Idol. But obviously others needed a go so they had to leave, “Would you guys like a picture before you leave?” Ariana asked,

“Yes please!” Scar answered for the group as they all stood up to take the photo.

“Alright! Have a lovely night you guys! I hope to see you at the next concert!” Ariana smiled happily at them as they left the Private room, and headed back to the hub.

Scar popped around Grians base the next morning, poor lad looked exhausted. What had he been up to whilst they were at the concert? 

“Griannn!” He called out in a sing-songy voice, “Guess what I gottt”

Grian just sighed, rolling over and looking at scar, who was proudly showing off his Signed Ariana Griande poster. 

Grian rolled back over, “Scar, that's great and I love you. BUT. Its 5am go back to sleep.” Scar laughed a bit before wishing Grian a good sleep and leaving his base, promising to tell Grian all about the concert once he was more awake

since I started liking/posting stuff related to the funny boomer Minecraft Youtubers playing an improv death game, I'm probably gonna post more opinion or lore posts occasionally when I have time; the Life Series is like one of my pet obsessions I circle back to every time a new season comes up like most people.

(to my friends/other followers who have no idea what I'm talking about, I'm sorry)

I don't usually watch the main Hermitcraft/other SMP videos because they aren't my thing compared to the Life Series SMPs, but I do enjoy what the creators put out and they all deserve lots of praise for the hard work they've put in (especially after a lot of unwarranted criticism lately over Secret Life + Hermitcraft Season 9)

and now for a scorching hot take that will disappoint a lot of fans

I really like the Desert Duo...but only platonically, and lemme tell you "platonic" and "Hermitcraft/Life Series fanart" go together about as well as water and oil

I'm already not a fan of shipping in general as a personal taste, but when it comes to shipping real content creators, my discomfort is doubled. If you ship them I'm not gonna hate on you or ask you to stop, you're free to do as you like and I'm not the internet police.

That being said, Grian and Scar are super close friends iRL (if you include Mumbo, I consider them a "DO NOT SEPARATE" trio) and it's honestly really heartwarming to see them in other series just goofing around and even doing RL meet-ups (mostly Grian/Mumbo). To me I've always loved seeing really close friendships like these, and I will try to refrain from snarking about how people on the internet are really bad at distinguishing Philia love (friendship, really deep friendship) from Eros (romantic love).

The point is, I kinda feel uncomfortable when I see shipping of them cuz it feels like willfully misinterpreting the bond of actual real people. I know a lot of people say "separate the CCs from their personas in the series/lore," and I understand why, but the whole practice doesn't sit well with me. It almost feels like instead of creating something actually derivative of the real people, it's like smooching two dolls that just happen to be labelled "Grian" and "Scar". And as a writer myself for other things, I really like to pay respect to the subject matter I'm writing about, and that includes real people. And considering Grian iRL is a straight married man who's said before he doesn't really like the shipping (Scar to my knowledge has not given his opinion on it), it feels even more uncomfy to me when people try to ship him with one of his actual close best friends.

Yes in a way the real people are separate from the personas they put in Hermitcraft or the Life Series. They're like actors, doing it for the job and the sake of us the audience. (Considering I'm a big fan of Vtubers, I'm very acquainted with this paradox) Even still I can't help but always be cognizant of how they're still real people trying to put out their heart and soul to the public, and we enjoy what they do with deep respect for what they're doing. Shipping, especially if they've voiced their disapproval for it (even though they haven't banned it), feels just a tinge not respecting them as actual people, and feels a bit parasocial-y.

But again these are just my personal feelings, this is NOT a hate/call-out post to anyone in the fandom or demanding anyone to stop shipping the hermits. That being said you're likely to not get any out of me for the reasons I've stated above.

and a side note to talk about lore specifically, I just think platonic Desert Duo (for the Life Series specifically) is even more interesting than taking the romantic lens, because we can still have the angst and the doomed narrative and the unsaid trust between Grian and Scar, and still be able to celebrate each of them individually as respective players/creators, without having to make every achievement they make be about 'oooo because fate'

I haven't seen anyone yet posit the theory that (CHARACTER) Grian has distanced himself from (CHARACTER) Scar not because of just trauma but also that Grian thinks Scar is perfectly capable of holding on his own (shenanigans and carelessness aside). Like he's known Scar long enough to trust that he can survive on his own, and thinks that they should try to not hold each other back, and depending on who you ask this was either a really good or REALLY REALLY BAD CALL in Secret Life (because Scar did win on his own merits, but was left all alone)

okay hello hi here to shout again because I have ROTATING the hunger lore for DAYS

ECOSYSTEMSSSSS!!! LETS GOOOO!!! did I do well in biology? No!!! I did not :D but ecosystems I know bby!!! MOONS AND STARS ABOVE I love the way it's all connected to like this huge ecosystem and the Watchers being almost gone, the Seekers being completely gone, and rhe Listeners relatively new!! Like?? That's so extremely clever and fascinating to me, and I love the way things are out of balance now bc!!! Yea!!! That's how ecosystems be!!

And also!!! It opens all these new thoughts!!! Like, I can't remember exactly if you said WHY the Watchers decided to take Grian, but if you didn't then like!!!! It opens up these possibilities of the Watchers trying to build back their population, which opens even MORE doors like "are they trying this with other players or was Grian the first/last?" And "would building their population out of Players actually help if Player-Watchers are different?" LIKE IM MEANT TO BE DOING SCHOOLWORK BUT I AM ROTATING

(and also. Love the way Grian became a Watcher. Can't remember if you specified the why (will go back and look) or if you're keeping it secret for now, but!! I love considering the ways populations adapt and survive to great loss and near extinction. It's very different from my own lore (living weapon Grian. Watchers took him to be a soldier bc Watchers and Listeners can't harm each other) so it's so fun to just think about and!!! Yeah!!! That's all I got!!!

AAAAAA thank you so much!!!! :D im really pleased that everyone likes the ecosystem stuff-- ive been kinda noodling on it for a while because ecosystems are just so neat to me and it made a lot of sense to develop one when i decided Watchers were parasitic in this verse!!!!

I think ive only mentioned this offhand once or twice, but youve absolutely nailed the entire reason the Watchers took Grian-- they're trying to rebuild their population. Grian was essentially the beginning of an experiment to see if this was a suitable way to do that!!!

Actually lemme dive into that real fast, because i dont think i actually have before, at least not publicly. Something to note about Watcher life cycles is that they take comparatively a LONG time. Specifically, Watcher larvae take around a year to incubate within their hosts, and then once they "hatch" (altho "emerge" might be a better word for it) the juveniles take far longer to grow up and teach. And because these things are basically made out of wet tissue paper, theyve got a pretty high mortality rate.

So to get around that, and to try and get around the fact that juveniles often die because they dont know how to feed properly yet and often overextend themselves, why not try and copy the memory code of something fully grown and sentient and just... transfer it to a larva, so its easier to teach?? I feel like it kinda highlights the desperation the Watchers are feeling, that they'd go for this kind of wild experimentation, but it did technically work!!!

They just uh. Didnt account for the insane trauma that would cause, because to them Players are typically just viewed as food sources. Very orange and blue morality, in terms of their value systems compared to Players'.

Grian demonstrated to them that while its possible to rebuild this way on a technical level, its not actually feasible socially speaking. Grian ran from them because of the trauma they inflicted, and that sorta defeats the purpose of Watcherificating a Player so they can add to the community's population 💀💀💀💀 so yeah i'd say Grian is probably both the first and last experiment of his kind, if only because its just not reasonable to continue if your new Watchers are going to escape containment and flee to the ends of the universe every single time you make one /lh

I really love your concept with Watcher!Grian being a weapon, thats INSANELY neat holy shit!!!! Im feeling Things™ about that, i would absolutely love to hear more if you decide you want to tell me!!! It sounds like youve got some really cool symbolism in your lore, and i live for that shit >:]

cleo had so much fun playing hercules. like imagine cleo rapping, "LOCK UP YOUR DAUGHTERS AND HORSES". just imagine her rapping hercules' whole entire bit from aaron burr sir.

imagine jimmy singing "daddy said to be home by sundown!!". i just find that so funny

um um um you're really good at pixel art and i need to learn pixel art for my game design class and I was wondering if u had any advice/tips for it bc i have literally never done it before lmao

i could have just texted u ik but im shy smh

oooh I'm gonna be completely honest, I thought I sucked/had no idea how to do it until I started, and then it just. kinda worked?? somehow??? idk what I do, just a lot of trial and error-ing, plopping shapes down and refining them, stuff like that

I think I mostly just subconsciously picked stuff up from looking at other people's pixel art (minecraft skins can be a good thing to look at for ideas on how it shading/texturing works and conveying character elements with few pixels) and/or a bunch carried over from regular (digital? lineless?) art (probably mostly the lineless art)

Lemme see if I can explain some of the stuff I do do consciously tho, for in case that helps!

I've watched a lit of grian hermit craft stuff, do you have any other hermits that you could recommend?

Oh!! Lemme think 🤔 hmmm well since you watch Grian I'm gonna assume you enjoy his playful and mischievous nature as well as some building!

Goodtimeswithscar and Bdoubleo100 are two incredible builders that are also usually up to some form of shenanigans, be it them causing it or being the one to get pranked.

Ethoslab and Zedaphplays are also very entertaining and shenanigans loving hermits. They can get a bit technical at times (Redstone or game mechanics), but will usually do their best to explain what they are trying to make or do.

So Goodtimeswithscar, Bdoubleo100, Ethoslab and Zedaphplays are who I'd recommend giving a try! If you watch any of them pls let me know what you thought or if one of them made you wanna watch more! Hope this was helpful 😊❤

"... Tango, I broke it."

"Yeah. Yeah, you definitely broke it." Tango whistles lowly, looking at the cleaning lady advertisement device Pearl's brought him to. His brow is furrowed, looking over everything- repeaters flipped around, tick speed messed up, items missing. "If I didn't know better, I'd say you messed this up on purpose."

"Now why would I ever do that, Tango? This is something promoting me!" Pearl looks down at him with wide, innocent eyes, hoping he believes her. "Can you help me fix it? Grian's not back at his base yet, so we have time to fix this before he activates the disk."

[Grian whispered to you: pearl, where do I go?]

"Well, I probably could. Should only take a few minutes." Tango nods, kneeling down to start adjusting the redstone. Pearl takes advantage of the distraction to whisper a location- [the nearest place his chestmonster is to the entrance]- then crouches beside him. "Oooooh, can I see? Lemme look. What's wrong with it?"

Like every redstoner she's ever met, Tango is very quickly distracted into explaining his work. "Well, the first issue here is that the tick speed is off. You must have messed with this by accident. A lot of these, actually- did you trip and fall?"

"... Haha." Pearl looks away. "Noooo....?"

Tango snorts. "Sure. Okay. So when you didn't trip and fall on the repeaters, it made the timing way out of whack, so power isn't being conducted through the machine correctly-" He pauses. "Is this repeater backwards?"

"... I panicked when I didn't trip and fall," she explains. "Some of these got knocked out of the circuit, so I tried to put 'em back. Did I get it wrong?"

"No, no! Well, only a little. We can fix this pretty easily!" He picks up one of the repeaters, checking to see if the glass holding its wiring in place is undamaged before flipping it back around. "What were you doing down here, anyway? Trying to figure out the redstone?"

"Yeah! I wanted to remember how to do this just on the spot the next time I came across a giant chestmonster." Pearl laughs. "I've put a redstone shulker in my enderchest and everything. Not that I can do it now, with how much I messed it up..."

"I figure taking a picture or two should work well enough for that kind of thing!" he suggests. "You're pretty good at redstone for a builder, though- did you want to learn how it all worked yourself?"

"For a builder?! Tango, are you saying builders can't do redstone?" Pearl does not think about the dozen pictures she had of untouched machinery- [another angle, Grian? Really?]- crossing her arms with a disgruntled frown. "I can't believe you. I never thought anyone would ever say anything like that to me. I'm taking my little rucksack and leaving-"

"Noooo, I didn't mean it like that! Come on!" Tango laughs. "... What's a rucksack?"

"Like a bag?" She shrugs. "... But yeah, I did want to figure it out. Just a little. Messed that up, huh?"

"Like I said, it's fiiine. Don't worry about it. Your Head of Marketing's got you covered!" He grins, his fiery hair flickering bright and blue in contrast with the redstone dust on his fingers. "You could ask next time, if you want! I haven't started the next part of Decked Out yet, I'm still in the material gathering bit. So I'm not busy!"

[Grian whispered to you: done!!]

Pearl nods. "I'll take you up on that! Do I need a heads up before visiting your base? It sure would be a shame if the cleaning lady's Head of Marketing had a chestmonster or something..."

Tango laughs very unconvincingly. "What?? Me?? A chestmonster? Nooo, I would never. Tell me before you visit, though, uh- so I can avoid spoilers! Yeah. So you don't get a sneak peek of Decked Out."

Pearl smiles angelically. "Sure, Tango!"

"Great! Awesome." He turns back to the redstone. "This... should be about fixed, I think. You're all good! I should probably be getting back home, though..."

"Alright! See you later!"

"See ya!" Tango grins, breaking through Grian's floor and offering her a hand. She takes his help up, replacing the broken block and waving goodbye as he goes.

[You whispered to Grian: he's coming. time to go]

Tango sighs as he enters his storage room, the familiar cold welcoming him like a friend. Man, that was awkward. He can't let Pearl know he has a growing chestmonster in here, that'd be embarrassing! At least it was a good reminder to clean it up-

He screams as a voice suddenly floods his storage room, playing a very familiar disk. "Oh? What's this? A chestmonster?"

"PEARLLLLLLL!!!!!"
