I’m always going to have a soft spot for Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw because choosing to love him honestly saved my sanity. It was the one thing I had refused to consciously do for so long, but I knew I needed to do something different, to be not who I had been.

Fortunately, there is so much to love there...and there always had been! Lol, my TC derangement really had me forgetting the gorgeous hunk of a man who was always, always there. But he is there for sure for me now - spotlight and center - and I really don’t think I’ll be changing that going forward. And I’m always going to move with a pure love and respect for the strength in character that I feel he has.

Currently Reading: Ok so like a year ago I bought How to Weep in Public by Jacqueline Novak from thriftbooks and i've gotten a few chapters in but haven't finished cause. Life Explodes. I started reading The Bear and the Nightingale by Katherine Arden about two weeks ago from my library cause I finished Namoi Novik's Spinning Silver and I was desperately googling books similar to it cause I loved it but then I had a hold on A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas at my library and wasn't expecting it soon cause there was multiple holds ahead of me and then it suddenly was waiting for me so now I have to read that in 2 weeks or else. So the answer is too many books

Currently Watching: I just finished Scavenger's Reign last night and It Made Me Crazy. Other than that like I said I'm rewatching Ofmd slowly

Hii can you say a lil about lemon boy? I'm so intrigued and excited! what gave you the idea to write a home renovation fic?

Hi hello yes absolutely!!! I just made this super horribly extensive WIP preview for Lemon Boy for another ask so you can get an overabundance of details there 😅

I don’t know what gave me the idea for this home renovation fic specifically but back in my supernatural days I read a fic called Shut Up (put your money where your mouth is) and that was my first introduction to the inherent romance of home renovation lmao

This fic was actually first inspired by the song Lemon Boy by Cavetown and started with the idea that Harley would be quiet and bitter and hurt and alone. There’s a line in the song that says “we’ll mow the lawn in bad weather” and so I was like, well he’s gotta have a house with a lawn along with his lemon tree.

Oh yeah the lemon tree.

It’s a character basically. Here’s my notes on it:

Lemon tree out back. It’s withered and half the branches are dead and no longer producing leaves. It doesn’t even grow lemons. He only knows it’s a lemon tree because his uncle left a note about it. Harley loves it back to life. It’s his baby. He treats it for bugs and prunes the dead branches and waters it throughout the hot dry NY summer. Mulch and fertilizer. He was never really big in biology but Google exists for a reason and he follows several fruit tree blogs on Tumblr now. Natural caretaker Harley needs just one thing he can take care of. Abbie’s grown and doesn’t need him. Mama was an empty nester for three years and is used to having the house to herself. In a blink he became irrelevant. Trying to find his place. Misses taking care of his family. The lemon tree is a substitute. He doesn’t consciously realize this but he knows he’s stupidly reliant on the survival of this dumb tree that should’ve never been planted in New York in the first place. He relates to the stupid thing, feeling just as out of place.

Yeah so I think the home renovation sprung up pretty quickly after those two things formed together into one big ball of “Harley feels adrift and if he can’t take care of his people then he’s going to pour all of his love into these things that he can fix and he can take care of.”

And that’s what I love about home renovation fics. It’s not about the house. It’s about the love.
