More Ukrainian!Trowa

A while ago I made this post sharing my personal headcanon that Trowa grew up in Ukraine and/or is part-Ukrainian.  At the time I didn’t present any real evidence to back up that headcanon other than the fact that the circus canonically travels through the area we know irl as Ukraine, coupled with the fact that irl Funfair Travellers tend to stick to the same yearly or semi-regular routes.  That makes it theoretically possible that one of Trowa’s parents could have been brought into the circus during one of its previous visits to Ukraine.  There is no evidence to say that this did happen, only that it could have happened.

But now I’m wondering if there might be actual, canon evidence linking Trowa to Ukraine.

In the Endless Waltz film we see a young Trowa/No-Name in his mech.  Notice the insignia on his jacket sleeve and on the mech itself.  Those three joined yellow mountains on a light blue(ish) background look an awful lot like a typical anime “Wacdonald/Popsi/Macrosoft/can’t use the irl name or logo but here’s an unsubtle approximation” take on the Ukrainian tryzub/trident…

The tryzub might not seem to have any resemblance to mountains in the eyes of Western audiences, but this is a Japanese anime.  The Japanese kanji for mountain is 山, which DOES look very similar to all but the oldest iteration of the tryzub.  It wouldn’t be unreasonable for someone whose first language is Japanese to look at the tryzub, associate it with the mountain kanji, and thus make the jump from the tryzub to the three mountains on Trowa’s insignia.

In conclusion, Trowa appears to have been fighting for thinly veiled Ukrainian forces as a child.

(Bonus: Trowa’s birth name was Triton, the sea god often depicted as a merman with a trident.  Not sure if this fits in with the theory when the trident has morphed into a tri-mount, but it still seems worth mentioning.  Funny how Wufei is the one who ended up with a trident weapon.)

Another possible clue, if not to Ukrainian!Trowa then to a more generally Slavic!Trowa, is that he is linked to Doktor S.  At least two of the Gundam engineers are of origins similar to their chosen pilots: Instructor H appears to be Middle Eastern and Master O is Chinese.  While it’s difficult to determine Doktor S’s origins based on the scant clues we’re given, the spelling ‘Doktor’ is common in Slavic languages (though it is also spelled this way in German and in Danish).  Of course, Doctor Jay Null is almost certainly not Japanese, so clearly not all of the Gundam engineers match up with their pilots, and thus Doktor S’s origins probably don’t have anything to do with Trowa’s...  Still, it’s one more piece of evidence to consider as we puzzle over the mystery that is Trowa.

been seeing interest crop up for a plural interpretation of grey wind/chasing wind, or making plural iterator ocs. this is great! as a system myself, i would like to offer some guiding questions and tips to non-systems to help out in their endeavors. please remember that i am one system and plurality varies VERY HEAVILY among people. other systems are free to comment and add their own tips. just dont turn this post into syscourse

i will use gw/cw as the most prevalent examples but this applies to any oc as well!

- alters are their own people in a lot of cases, not just "personalities". ask yourself, how does gw differ from cw? when presented with the same situation, how do each of them react? do they agree with each other or not? either way, what are their reasons?

- systems are rarely comprised of just two alters. it is not impossible, but very rare. most people notice plural symptoms at around 3 alters and people will on average have between 8-15 alters (but more is very much not unheard of!). think about how many alters gw/cw would have on top of each other

- alters may have different pronouns, sexuality, and ways they want to present themselves from each other. how do gw/cw and other alters differ from each other in this way, if at all?

- if gw/cw's physical body changes to represent who is fronting, was this an ability they had before realizing their plurality? in our world, we cannot change how we look outside of clothes and makeup. if gw/cw do not possess the ability to change physically, do either of them or any other alter feel uncomfortable or even dysphoric looking at their physical body?

- alters' relationships may vary heavily on the same person. how do gw/cw feel about a specific person? how are they the same or different? is one alter in a whole different kind of relationship with someone than another?

- how comfortable is gw/cw with telling others about their plurality? do only they know? their close friends? local group? anyone they come across? plurality is often personal, and is not a singular decision for any one alter in a system to make to tell others. it can be difficult for non-systems to understand what plurality is like (and in our world, cause mockery) so they may think it is easier to stay quiet about it

- plurality happens because of several different conditions. there is did, but there are also ospd-1a and 1b. i would highly recommend doing your own research on these different types of plurality. they each have different effects on memories, emotional state, even how defined the alters themselves. again, look into it

- if gw/cw have memory problems, do they have a way to get around it? private broadcasts? pearls? scratching on the walls? how do they talk to alters not co-concious with them?

- some systems may use role labels to identify themselves as having particular jobs to help/protect the system. these are roles such as host, caretaker, guardian, traumaholder, etc. do your research on this one. do any of these roles apply? or do gw/cw forgo these labels? (personally, we only use the term "host")

- headspace is a place in the mind where alters "live" (it's not a real residence, but it feels that way) headspace may be small, only representing co-conciousness, or very large, giving every alter a more "tangible" place to stay if not fronting. or headspace might not exist at all! (this is most common in systems who just found out about their plurality). what does headspace look like to them? keep in mind, headspace can really look like anything. for me at least, it looks mostly consistent. a few things may change about it or it may expand, but it's not like imagination where anything happens if you think about it

as a disclaimer i am not going to go in depth about trauma or sources in this post. it can get very personal very quickly. a general way i can put it is think of a long term source of stress and/or abuse that may be present in your iterator's life. handle the subject with care.

the best way to learn about the experiences of plurality is to ask people who are systems. as long as you are given consent, come in with genuine curiosity, and be as reasonable as you can, most systems will be okay with questions! it is like any other identity

a side: other ways to make plural iterators?

iterators do not share human anatomy or physiology. they will never perfectly be able to represent plurality like we have it in our world

but the unique characteristics of iterators can lend way into creative ideas that are similar to plurality! (but never, i want to stress, NEVER the same)

notably, several puppets in one can. if you remember that the body of the iterator is the structure, and the puppets are like the face, then you have several faces, personalities, people, in one body. my immunerators play around with this idea and i am sure there are other ways to get creative!

As much as I love Azriel's shadows, I really love the idea of them slowly starting to fade when he finds happiness for the first time in his life. I think he hasn't truly felt joy in 500 years.

Imagine this: Azriel is finally happy, deep in his soul, and the old bruised parts of himself begin to heal and he can finally step out of the darkness. He is sad to see his shadowy friends go, but he finds that he no longer needs them, because he's found love and acceptance with Elain. His heart is full, so he says goodbye to the shadows one by one as they fade away, until the last one finally disappears. He turns, and sees Elain walking towards him, glowing like the sun. And not one shadow can be found on Azriel's smiling face.

Lemme contribute something to GW2 fandom with some shower thoughts I have about elementalists.

Elementalist headcanons I have:

Each attunement, just like a game, gives certain advantages. For example being attuned to earth gives you quite a bit extra strength - to the point it can be counted as superstrength. There is some huge rock blocking your way? Attune to earth to lift it with no effort.

Each attunement can influence emotions. For example being attuned to fire can make elementalists more prone to anger but also excitement. Being attuned to water makes them quicker to cry.

Elementalists are sensitive to weather. They can tell when it will be rainy, stormy, sunny, cold or hot. They can also sense when volcanos can erupt or when earthquake can happen. Now you know who to ask about weather during your vacation.

mulling some stuff over and the recent timeline theory I rbed had me thinking- might have to modify the date of when characters were spawned in redux au.

First big one is I'll most likely have to make Phantom a late-stage release, with a purpose to combat Corrupted Units. Another Creator in redux would have snuck him into the code without Luni noticing

This also means Phantom will have trouble getting along with other Units because he's new and mysterious, making him look aloof and distant as similar to his personality in canon, but with more anxiety. classical music is still a comfort for him since many pieces have a consistent tempo for him to focus on (Cyko finds similar comfort in EDM* lol)

Additionally, Reaperess Magy will be promoted to a similar role but still has the training program to run

I'm slowly adding to the roster of Units that were sacrificed to the Corrupted army that Luni is building during the first Corruption Event and delegating most of the canon GW guest/cameo/volunteer designs to the Corrupted army by default if they don't get designs (sorry Nyxeria Luiselle- you're too stereotypical for me to feel comfortable fixing) so that I don't get anyone on my ass about changing them.

GW in this case will be unrelated to any of the other canons and as such, any characters exclusive to those canons will not be involved (sorry senpaibuns, carolina, pandora, tela, myo- you get it). characters that are crossed over may reference those canons but the focus will be on GW.

Okay so I am lost about something. Erwin belittles Claude as a poor ruler for his stunt with the Great Bridge regarding Ferdinand's forces. And Claude - and others - will berate the decision to continue onto Imperial territory to push back against the Empire, because of Almyra attacking while they were doing so not being accounted for.

But. Like. If Claude hadn't done those two things, then the Empire... would have attacked them while they were fighting back against Almyra. At least, that's implied going by what Erwin says: "I imagine [the Empire has] reconsidered their plans following the last battle. It was foolish of them to start a war on two fronts in the first place, it would be even greater folly yet to continue after witnessing the might of the Alliance." With Judith responding: "Hold on. Are you saying the reason you volunteered to defend the Great Bridge is because you figured it wouldn't be attacked?"

But the Empire never would have known about the Alliance's might if Claude had just fortified the Bridge and gone on the defensive like Erwin and others wanted him to. And without the fight against Bergliez - where the Alliance had given him both moral and pragmatic reasons not to follow them into the Alliance - he would have likely just... invaded the Alliance? Since there'd be literally nothing stopping him now?

And that battle with Bergliez: damn near flawless, even with Jeralt and Byleth muckin' things up a bit. The plan with the Bridge: exactly as planned. Capturing Ferdinand: not a complete success, but the Empire's still without an important commander nonetheless and lost a sizable amount of troops. The invasion with Shahid: unexpected at the moment, but Claude always had Nader in his corner and expected Shahid to attack at some point, and that battle also went down without much issue (uhh I mean besides the whole forced fratricide and the emotional turmoil that is that lmao but you get what I mean).

But Claude's still doubtful, nobody really trusts Claude still, people are wondering why the Empire didn't attack them while they were retreating (maybe it's because y'all beat their asses?? Or that y'all ran through their breadbasket and so made fighting impossible without ensuring further starvation in Adrestia??) and it's like holy fuckin' shit somebody needs to grow some goddamn confidence already. Seeing all of this success the Alliance is getting - even when unexpected shit flies their way, they adapt just fine around it - being contrasted with pretty much everyone still twiddlin' their thumbs and being so unsure of themselves is just... weird?

Like, cockiness will get them killed sure, but they're acting like nothing ever goes their way when just about everything goes about as well as they can go given the circumstances. It makes the idea that Claude siding with the Empire on GW was a decision ~made in distress and desperation~ that I've seen some try to explain his decisions as seem... completely unwarranted, because he was doing about as well as he could've done fighting them. Am I just missing something? Would love to know lmao cuz the dots just aren't connecting for me 😂

I'm gonna let you in on a secret: I've stopped trying to connect the dots. This game doesn't know what it's doing with itself. The Alliance was doing . . . pretty good for a country who's kinda known for their crap military. It's like. The plots that make sense for him to concoct? The ones you mentioned (Gloucester and Myrddin, Bergliez, Nader)? People were upset that they weren't in the know, but . . . they went off without a hitch. It's literally when Claude does an about-face and allies with the Empire out of fucking nowhere that his plans get more messy for his character, then outright messy in-fucking-general. It's like . . . you're right! Things were going well for them! Like, if I'm not mistaken, exactly what was happening in the background of Azure Gleam. But then they change it for no reason. Which I cannot comprehend. Because. Because things were going pretty well

Reading, especially horror genre, his fav book “The Raven” by Edgar Allen Poe, writing stories, writing fan-fiction, binge watching new shows(would LOVE Only Murders in the Building), binging horror and mystery podcasts, sketching illustrations(@a-sterling-rose suggested he’d make cool monsters and creatures for his stories), flying around the Zone, watching theatre arts, reciting Shakespeare, jazz poetry, book clubs, occasional drinks with Box Ghost(I imagine they’re best friends), doing puzzles and crosswords, memory games, playing chess and looking for new inspiration.
