i wanted to take a moment to reflect on the past year and bring it to a nice close, so i took to tumblr search and google to see if there was some sort of tag game going around. i frankensteined this list of questions from a few different versions of what was probably originally the same thing, but the nature of The Website of course makes it impossible to locate an original, so this is me just sort of, well, joining the fun by starting a parallel thread.

Top 5 Favorite Fics 💖

these are in no particular order!

3 AM, the time when most people die - this is a hard core logo (1996 canadian movie) fic which just kind of Happened, and it hung around on ao3 for a solid few days in a 0 kudos 10 hits sort of state, which had me giggling every time i thought about it. 2023 goal of writing for me, myself & i achieved (0 kudos on a fic)! ✅ (that said, it does also bring me great joy to see that the number is upwards of zero now. lovely to see an obscure thing find its audience. <3)

Your hands in my back pockets - a starsky/hutch fic, and in some ways the opposite to the previous one. i had a "this is alright" sort of feeling about it when i hit post, and the (lovely! very flattering!) way people responded to it surprised me somewhat. reading it back now, i don't know what bothered me about it at first - it's nice, it flows, it's all good! plus, i really like the title. it's a good s/h title.

POV: It’s a lovely day, you’re sipping a refreshing cold drink on your 70s apartment balcony, and the upstairs neighbor who always waters the sago palm outside your front door when you forget about it has that one friend over and his windows wide open. - this is a starsky/hutch all dialogue fic, and it was just plain fun! very easy to write, thankfully not hard to read, and the title is completely ridiculous in a way that still gives me a kick.

How To Build A Triangle (or accidentally fall headlong into one, or whatever the fuck) - can't not mention this one, i think. it's the roy/jamie/keeley ted lasso fic i wrote in record time (for me), and i had a blast doing that and i think that's palpable in the end result. i have warm memories of this!

Oh, kiss me like the final meal (Yeah, kiss me like we die tonight) - h50! steve/danny! they'd gotten swamped by all the starsky/hutch in 2022, but they made a minor comeback this past year. and again, this fic was just plain fun - a scene that really needed the mcdanno rewrite, and i'm glad it happened, and that it decided to flow so smoothly it grew twice as long as intended. the gag with the gun is still good, the banter works, and i like "it tastes like a laugh".

Fandom Fic Events 🤝

my knee-jerk first thought was none, which would have been a blatant lie for this year! i wrote a fic for the SHareCon (starsky/hutch con) zine, which is currently still zine-only but will appear on ao3 at some point in the future, and i also wrote something for this year's Starsky & Hutch Advent Calendar, which can be found here (which will also lead you to all the other lovely advent calendar gifts of 2023 and previous years!). neither of these things would have happened if starsky & hutch fandom hadn't been such a warm, welcoming, unbelievably well-organized space. <3

Projects for 2024 👀

oh god. oh god i have so many things on the grill.

the end of 2023 was a stretch of time where i did write some, and at times even a very decent amount, but nothing seemed to be getting finished - which was annoying for a bit, and then sort of petered out into oh well. it'll happen, eventually, when it wants to. which means that currently i have a whole bunch of nearly finished things for a whole bunch of fandoms:

bad buddy - should this be top of the list? who knows. but oh, i need to write something for this - i have to, i need to, you know. it's just that it's turning out to be more of a challenge than most new things i start writing for, because i do feel i have a reasonable grip on the characters, but the fact that it's a thai series which i'm only consuming through fan-generated subtitles is clashing with some of the fundamentals of how i usually write fic, as it turns out. usually i watch a thing and then mimic character voices to write a section of (probably mostly, maybe only) dialogue, which then gets filled out with descriptions and an actual setting later on. the problem with bad buddy is that i love, love subtitles, and i love, love the people who write them, but they do (understandably! naturally!) lead to some very clunky english at times, and i just can't write things like "are you chickened out, fierce eyes". i cannot. which means i need to half-invent the right english character voice (and how that blends with the little i know of thai speaking patterns and customs), which takes away the thing i usually lean on way more heavily than i previously realized i did, so. it's a journey! it's an experiment! i'm learning things! i'm making choices! and i'm pumped about it but it's also REALLY slowing down the bad buddy fic production.

starsky & hutch - many things are happening! many many! they're just happening slowly. there's one particular fic about starsky and hutch comfortably out at a party and hutch fielding questions about names which has been 98% done for a month or two, but i need one (1) more connective paragraph to wrap things up, and apparently i'm in no hurry. and i love that for me, at the same time as i'm tempted to flick my brain and go Do It. Just Do It. oh god, and then there's a much older comedy fic stuck in close to the same situation only there it's 95% and the missing part is the end, which is at least a little more serious, and there are. i think literally a dozen probably. things that are cooking, bubbling, making interesting little noises. it's yet to be seen which of those turn out tasty.

h50 - there are some shorter wips here that have great potential to go somewhere, but mostly i want to finally (finally!) wrap up a flip-flop state of mind, which only needs finishing touches (albeit a bunch of them) on the final chapter, and then maybe 200 more words for the short epilogue to round things out. i had somewhat hoped to get that done before the new year, but it didn't work out that way, and i'm at peace with it - the longer this fic takes, the more comical my initial estimate of "i can probably get this done within the month" becomes. and after that's done, i can refocus my energy on Sweet like a chic-a-cherry cola, another ill-fated plan which i Will see through (while also enjoying myself), dammit, but i think for that one i'll need to pre-write the whole thing before i start posting again or i'll just keep going in circles.

nashville - it's been a while since my rewatch, so i'm not sure it will ever really come together, but i have a fun little 5+1 will/gunnar thing which lives half in a google docs file and half in my heart. could be nice!

sga - there's One Fic that's near done and has a few turns of phrase in it that keep making me go "oh, this might be worth finishing, actually" every time i return to it, but i think i'll need to let that happen a few more times before we actually get there. there's also a light and comedy-ish aro/ace john fic (heavily featuring john&rodney and john&team) on a low boil. i think that one might need to wait for me to rewatch the show at some point so i'm correctly immersed in the Vibes of it all, but it's very dear to me, so it still gets a permanent In Progress label.

due south - there's one particular thing that i might get back to? maybe. it could happen. @redgoldblue's dedicated live reporting on their due south watch, as well as their ds fic, did stir something in my brain.

other - there's literally two paragraphs of hard core logo fic kicking around in my notes which might turn into something some day. (when i started writing 3AM those new words were intended to blend with the two existing paragraphs, but they never did.) there's some ted lasso that can still be considered wip, but my ted lasso fic moment burned bright and short, it seems, though it's nice to know the framework is there if i ever do a rewatch. oh man, and there's a weird homoerotic over the top (because that's what this canon is) tango & cash wip which i hope will make it across the finish line some day, but i wouldn't be surprised if in the end that's, like. coming to an ao3 page near you soon! in 2026.

okay, I'm going to count distinct chapters of the advent calendar for this. in no particular order and subject to mood change:

When You're Loving Me (That's When I'm Loving You) (NCIS: LA) - I cited this as a contender for my favourite fic I've written a couple months ago, so obviously it has to go in the year's. what can i say, fake dating is an immaculate trope, and this also all came onto the page very easily which is always vaguely miraculous.

there you go pulling me right back in (H50) - sometimes vague prompts i've had down for ages write up as something that's. fine, but a bit clunky, and I just have to move on bc it's the advent calendar and a new fic each day. sometimes I start writing them and they spring into life with joyous delight. or in this case, uninhibited grumpiness and love.

singing yesterday's songs wishing i could be with you tonight (MASH) - the one that didn't make it into the top 5 kudosed, I assume partially due to being locked and partially due to being a serious tone, not terribly shippy, and Peg POV. But I've had some version or other of it for a long time, it's one of those stories I'm genuinely proud of, and I was glad to finally post it.

Totally Normal (Due South) - it's fun. it was fun. I was slightly nervous about it, because the only prior Due South thing I'd written was Dief POV and this was Fraser and RayK POV and the first time writing either of those, but it turns out watching + liveblogging four and two seasons, respectively, of a character in four months is. enough to cement their voices in my head. it was unexpectedly easy and also. fun.

Festive Spice (MUNCLE) - i just think it epitomises the advent calendar. in the words of coolbreezemage, 'yesssss bake cakes and kiss your partner'.

Finding A Cure In You (S&H) - this doesn't make it to the above list due to the fact that I haven't actually managed to reread it since I posted it. but just for the amount of time I spent with it, how different it is to my usual M.O. of writing, and the weird way I wrote it (entirely in the notes app, with almost zero rereading while writing), I have to somehow mention it.

A Thousand Words / To Be Spared (Good Omens) - I don't know if they're favourite but I do think they're good. and the format of to be spared was pleasingly experimental and i think it worked.

I expect more MUNCLE fic. this one's already 3.5k and rocketing along, and i'm only two-thirds of the way through season 1. what form that will take i don't know at this stage but we'll see.

....i was discussing the vague concept of house/h50 crossover fic with squares literally yesterday and on the one hand I haven't written a crossover since 2014 and also don't want that to be my legacy, but on the other hand i think there is at least a 50% chance it's going to stick in the back of my brain and keep niggling.

Alert episode 2 promo!

Alert 1x01 Review

So what did everyone think of the first episode?

Here’s my honest and unbias thoughts as a playwriting and screenwriting as well as a television studies student currently in college:

- i thought scott was great, as was dania! I also really loved ryan broussard and adeola role! i’m a bit confused on “C” and what his purpose is besides photoshopping a cat onto jason (I know it was supposed to be comedic but they were in the middle of a serious kidnapping)

- the pacing was just off to me for some reason, i was hoping for a more joyous and drawn out reunion with keith but i personally just thought it was too quick with no questions asked. i thought the beginning was fine (absolutely loved the opener with jason in afghanistan) but then it kinda flew for no reason, they could’ve drawn out finding keith at least through the next episode (dare i say they could’ve drawn it out even through most of the season but i get it now with the twist at the end)

- as i’m sure many of you are reading, yeah, believability is a bit off, especially when dealing with a serious police unit like that but i can get over that quick enough, i care more about story. sometimes dynamics in a team are just unconventional and that’s how it is but that might not go over well with other viewers.

- i think there needs to be a better balance of solving the case of the week and then dealing with their personal case/issues. just because it was kinda crazy how Jay and Nikki literally flew to Las Vegas in the middle of a case. like I get it, it’s your son but you also have a really important job too. It would’ve been better if just jason went and not Nikki, since she’s the head of the missing persons unit.

- i think they added too much at the end, either they shouldn’t have added the second kidnapping of chloe or the reunion with keith. having those intense emotional moments are what brings the audience in and keeps them engaged (especially if it’s acted well, which i thought scott, dania and even graham (keith) acted out beautifully, if only they were given more time)

- i liked the twist at the end with keith and i understand that they can’t just do a dna test, keith and sidney are adopted. but the dog always knows!!! i think this mystery and the character’s relationships with one another is what really drives the show and hopefully they can stick to that without ruining the week to week case.

- overall, i thought the pilot was a bit wonky, just story wise though (i thought it was acted beautifully, shot nice and directed well), hopefully they find a new perspective and a solid ground in the writers room just because i’m worried that the show may not be picked up after this year if they keep going like this with every episode.

again i just looked at it with a critical eye because my major in college is literally screenwriting lol! but i’m excited for tonight’s episode, i will definitely still keep watching.

i think a lot of people, at least from what i’ve read in reviews and tweets, had some problems with the pilot but they will be back tonight for the next episode. writing a pilot is very difficult (i’ve written a few myself and it’s really really hard), and most tv pilot and finales are not good at all! except for Lost (best tv pilot i’ve ever seen) and even H50 (that was very well written pilot) but usually the show picks up steam and engages the audience more!

WIP Wednesday

I’m getting nothing done this week.  Too many performance reviews has me thinking in corporate gobbledygook.  

I hate review season. 

Ahem.  Tagging anyone who’d like to play along.  

Title: Family, Familia, ‘Ohana, uncertain chapter

Fandom: 911, H50, SWAT tv

Pairing: buddie, mcdanno, platonic deacon/hondo

Other tags/warnings: first draft-ish.  So confession time, this was the second-ish scene i wrote for this fic and it’s inspired by From Here to Eternity…..

Only buddie of course. 

Anyways…….

He hesitated just a moment before he was reaching for Eddie to pull him closer.  The  wet sand under his feet crumpled away as he twisted his torso and caught Eddie’s mouth with his own, eyes fluttering shut.  Eddie met him halfway, the feel of his arms wrapping around him to bring their chests together as they rolled in the sand connected at the mouth just tasting each other even as Buck’s free hand cupped around the angle of the jaw to keep them together. The oncoming tide lapped at their legs as they both strove to get closer to each other.   The gasp which escaped Eddie’s mouth allowing Buck’s tongue entrance as he began mapping newly claimed territory. 

Eddie was his now—he was never going to let him go.  Not after that love declaration. Buck would go to the ends of the earth if it meant being with Eddie. They’d figure the rest of things out but for right now he just needed to physically get as close as possible. 

He wanted everything with Eddie.  Absolutely everything.  Even an inch of space between them was too much—he wanted to crawl under Eddie’s skin until it was impossible to tell them apart.

Breaking apart to breathe, Buck’s head fell back against the sand as he’d ended up underneath Eddie who had his legs sprawled on either side of him, weight anchoring Buck who felt so lightheaded he might just float away if it weren’t for being pinned in place.  The warmth in Eddie’s eyes as they met his made his breath catch in his chest before Eddie’s face came closer and then he began placing biting kisses with too much teeth and tongue that were going to leave visible marks down the length of Buck’s neck.  As the sharp nip caught the prominent ridge of his trachea he let out a whine of need and began writhing to press himself harder into the rough scrape of an unshaven cheek and the pressure holding him down.

Getting ready for NaNo by easing into the writing speed I need to perform once November 1st arrives. I’m writing a new one-shot: Ask Him Out For A Coffee and here’s a snipet:

Steve's eyes are full of something Danny wants to grab and swallow whole to feel it inside. He loves and hates those gut-twisting deep moments with Steve in the middle of a fucking gunfight. Steve lets him have a glimpse of what lies beneath that steely armer hold in place for protection. Danny worries that this fearless Navy boy can only reveal his true feelings in the most strained situation where the fight for life and death are the balance that keeps him together. The moment lasts one second before the determination bleeds through in Steve's eyes. "On me."

Please have patience with allies who don’t know all the queer terminology but are trying.

There are a LOT of acronyms and new terms. Especially for people who aren’t immersed in the community.

Someone not knowing a term/acronym doesn’t immediately translate to hate or purposeful ignorance.

So now I have pianos on the brain.

Don’t get me wrong: I am SOOOOO HAPPY that there is a ton of teen media out there full of coming out stories.

In no way am I saying I don’t want them around.

But what I would ALSO like is some fun lighthearted stuff about coming out/sexual awakenings later in life.

It seems like all the coming out stories full of older people are all super dramatic and/or sad. But figuring out your sexuality late in life is a real thing sometimes… and I would like more of that content.

OMG this episode was amazing

The McDanno scenes were amazing. (AND BTW, Steve and Danny are living alone now in Steve’s house. just fyi)

And I want to see where this storyline with Adam is going. I got the feeling that this could be a big BIG thing at the end of the season.

Hawaii Five-0 / Magnum Crossover

The time has come. The day is here.

The moment I’ve been waiting for since the Magnum PI reboot began airing.

The crossover event happened. The amount of over-excited squeals I produced while watching the first episode was completely undignified (and confused the hell out of my cat), and I didn’t care. 

It was all I ever wanted!

Except for one little thing (pun intended):  Danny should have been there! Can you imagine the level of banter?  It was good that they mentioned the similarities at least, but damn... it could have been even more perfect.

Also I kinda get why the guys (Steve, Lou, Danny again) weren’t there in the second episode - It would have made things too easy and team Magnum’s methods mostly unnecessary - but I missed them. I wanted more of the dynamic between Steve and Magnum, and his friends. Steve driving the Ferrari and Magnum’s friends fanboying over Steve’s SEAL past (and his smug smirk) was the best thing about the first part. I need more of that!!! Hopefully, this is just the ground work for future crossovers and I can’t wait for more!

I know this wasn’t exactly Whump-themed, but I had to vent my excitement somewhere.

Could've done without all the sepia, but that was a good episode. ALEX CAN WRITE! like daaaamn. Can you imagine the quality of fanfic we would get from him?

Also great action scenes, the explosions sequence was superb and Alex flexed all his acting muscles in this one. So, so good. I need to watch it again more calmly, and more attention, I was half asleep tonight but it gave me so many feels.

Finally, I'm really glad Danny walked out pissed off in the beginning and then went very good boy in the end.

Perfect episode.

PS: did anybody else felt it had a bit of a SEAL Team quality to it at times? I remember Alex said in one interview or another, a long time ago, that he hung out with SEALs often and I dunno, I think the energy of it maybe came through?

I saw this on Amazon and a McDanno immediately popped into my head lol.

Steve had tattoos. Several tattoos. But he had no piercings, had never thought about them before. Until some of his SEAL buddies come into town, (assuming Greer didn’t kill them all Cause I see this season 8/9) and a few too many beers, (and shots) are done and Steve wakes up alone at home with fuzzy memories of the night before. He is REALLY not a young as he use to be.

At first he doesn’t notice the pain in his stomach. He just shrugs it off as part of the hangover experience. He doesn’t realize something is amiss until he goes to scratch his fuzzy stomach and feels a sharp tug when he gets to his naval. Looking down he can’t believe what he sees. He wobbles to his bathroom and stare blearily into the mirror, looking for the source of the pain. Eventually his eyes zero in on little piece of metal dangling from his belly button.

A little piece of metal in the shape of an anchor, with a heart, and fake diamonds.

With a groan Steve vows to never drink again. 

Once he is a little more sober he decides to keep it. He honest to god likes it. It’s a little piece of delicacy on his masculine body. He loves looking at it and when the pain wears off he likes to touch it. Stroke it. He spends his alone time, (rare with Junior Living with him), shirtless and finds himself just fiddling with it without realizing it.

 He doesn’t tell anyone. Not because he is ashamed or worried, he’s very secure in his masculinity thank-you-very-much, he just doesn’t see a reason to.

The only one that seems to think anything is amiss is Danny. Steve Doesn’t whip his shirt off anymore. He had backed off considerably over the years but now Danny can’t remember the last time he had seen Steve without a shirt. He has no shame in admitting that to himself that he kinda misses seeing Steve in all his glory. He also notices that Steve’s hand goes to, and lingers, on his stomach more these days. He doesn’t seem to be in pain but still...after everything, Danny worries.

 Danny shows up unexpectedly one morning, just as Steve is finishing a swim, (think 8x06) and catches sight of Steve’s belly button ring, (can you swim with those things after they are healed?), and immediately gets light headed as the blood rushes to his cock.

 After Danny drags Steve int the house and thoroughly shows Steve his appreciation for his jewelry, (and eventually just Steve being the love of his life in general), Steve resolves to send thank you notes to his old buddies.

10.11. – Review and some musing

Since yesterday I'm thinking about how to start this review. I guess it'll end up being an ode to McDanno. Because let's be honest…still after such a long time, years of being in love, my love for the boys is a blazing fire. They make me sit on the edge of the couch, smiling stupidly, happy with what I witness what's happening between them. They make me sweat and grin and cry and gasp for air.

So, I start with the boys. Honestly, I've never expected season 10 to be so freaking full of McDanno moments. Gosh, I'm still a bit beside myself. For example, the scene in Steve's office. Danny…Danny. This handsome man (and the haircut! This freaking hot Mohawk, gah!!!) gets me twisted in knots because I try to find out what's he's up to. Danny doesn't normally admit to Steve his inner secrets. The way he confessed so openly why he has made up the mold story? Uh-huh. Intense. He shows feelings. Shows how much he was worried about Steve without being ironic and ranting and cutting the air to pieces with his hands. Intense. That what it was. And Steve? Steve takes Danny's confession in stride, kind of shifts on his seat and says he was touched. Steve doesn't really know what he should do with this piece of information even though he’s known it the whole time. It's kind of a load of emotions getting dumped on Steve only to grow in intensity a second later.

The bonsai comment? So not Danny-like, at least, not to the Danny I'm used to. He admits just openly that he's started that hobby for therapeutic reasons, telling there that he's not okay, that he's needed some support, some help from the shrink-corner and that's new. Did he visit a therapist? A psychologist? Does he still have sessions? Steve didn't ask any of this but the questions hang in the air. Danny, being just Danny, tells him of course, he doesn't normally inform everyone that he has a bonsai but he's just said it to Steve. So, he wants Steve to know and he even takes his miniature tree to Steve's house where he’s gong to trim this little precious tree with the special clipper doing this with a steaming cup of coffee beside him on Steve’s table only dressed in a flimsy shirt and old boxer shorts and Steve forgets how to breathe and decides to wear only sweat pants made of heavy cotton farbric. Not so easy to stretch. So, many hidden signs.

And what's with the burst pipe full of sewage? Yak, that's something traumatic when that happens, meaning Danny’s house was flooded with that stuff, ugh. At least, the bathroom and normally Danny would freak out, ranting, complaining, telling everyone how he's drawn the short straw from life. But none of this is happening. Danny smiles when he explains how the shit-smell has chased him out of his own home and he seeks refuge…at Steve's house. I'm sure he just made that story up, too and Steve knows this but still. Six to eight weeks! That's a long time and they haven't even mentioned where Danny would sleep. Maybe with Grace gone and Charlie growing older Danny feels lonesome and needs company.

But I can't get over Danny's sweet smile. The smile where he's asking Steve to let him crash at his place. It's a smile where one couldn't hide effectively enough the crush, they have one the one person that stands right in front of them. It's a sweet, tender, meaningful smile, uncommonly in Danny's repertoire to make faces. It's a gentle, genuine smile and it's connected to the stay at Steve's place. And normally Danny is the one who's annoyed and not Steve. Somehow the tables have turned and Danny tries to coax Steve into doing something Steve's not so fond of just for the fun of teasing Danny. Steve plays the annoyed one very well and all he can come up with are used towels. Ha!

Danny pushes boundaries twice in a short amount of time. He barges in Steve's door the first time without telling or calling or asking if it's okay with Steve. Now, just the same. He packs his bags and even takes his bonsai with him, stores his luggage in the office for Steve to see because Danny knows already Steve won't say no. So, what has Danny in mind? Living together for about two months? Jesus! I love this scene. It reveals Danny's softer side, an unexpected side. He wants to be with Steve that's a fact. And Steve lets him. I'm really curious about what's going on. Guys!!!! Ahhhh!

And the helicopter scene! That's another great McDanno moment. First, Danny jokes about animals although he loves animals. But he teases Steve about the gooses. And Steve comes up with the helicopter ride and doesn't even ask Danny if he's okay with it. He knows very well that Danny hates to fly with him. And oh, surprise! Danny goes! He jokes about the wild goose chase and Tani rolls her eyes at the boys! But Danny doesn’t scream and digs his heels in the ground just for the reason to show how much he doesn't want to be with Steve in a freaking helicopter, in the air!! Nope, he just went after Steve again with this mysterious smile.

As for the record, I…god…I loved seeing them paired up again, chasing bad guys, like in the old days. Time changes things, I get that but it was a great moment. And guess what. Steve is super correct and knows all the rules and is the pilot of the helicopter and yet he lets Danny use his cell although is highly prohibited and against the rules. But he lets Danny be. And Danny gives two shits about rules because they're in a no-fly zone because of gooses so no rules. And that's heavily teasing and an odd flirting with Steve. He dares him and Steve goes with it as always.

And I love that Steve still trusts Danny with all he's got. The Adam case bothers him and he leaves it to Danny to get through to his rogue team member. But Steve can't deny himself the comment if Danny can manage secrecy and Danny only lifts an eyebrow, tilting his head and quips a nice answer in return. Not offended in the slightest. That's really new and I freaking love it. Danny is much more relaxed and that rises my interest.

The guys going to live together for a longer time. That's going to be interesting and my heart whispers already poems of love…mm-hmm.

The half-season finale was just as good, as fantastic as every episode from season 10. I'm so in love. There's something thrilling about this season. It's heavy on the feels. The unexpected McDanno moments throw me. It's overwhelming. The cases are interesting and I never forget that it just a show and things might be bent a bit until they fit. Yes, they mess up timelines and don't follow up often on loose ends. I don't really dwell on those moments. I take what I get and I tend to extract the best moments for me. These 42 minutes and something always fills me with a giddy joy. I'm still enjoying every moment. It's still a wild ride and every episode leaves me with a lot to think about.

Lou is surprisingly fun. He's the one I struggle with the most. He's often over the top but so far, his scenes are filled with quip, pulling faces while discussing important leads, adding a lot of solid ohana-feelings and deep-rooted devotion to the team. This season Lou kind of grows on me. He's good people when he's not losing himself in some stupid, senseless explanation about how to dip malasadas in coffee or how to be a respected young man, or some stories about the good ol' days in Chicago.

The team has grown together. Tani fills her shoes and she walks tall. She's badass, proud, unwavering and would make Kono proud. She's full of admiration for Steve with the needed respect. But she's also the one who kind of sees the private person behind Steve the boss-man. She's caring and she's not afraid to show it. She loves Steve deeply, like a sister. She also breeches with ease Steve's professional persona. She expresses feelings and thoughts that have Steve gulp because it's so honest and straightforward and I love that.

Junior… man, this guy captured my heart. He's great. He's Earth where Steve's Air. They match as perfect Brothers. I'm always calm knowing Steve's not totally detached from his former, very important life as a SEAL. Junior watches out for him. Always, everywhere. He's grown a fantastic backbone and I'll never get tired of watching him morphing into a SEAL. He becomes a brother and a teammate for Steve. My heart still skips a few beats remembering the scene where they freed Joe White and Steve ordered him to stay behind, to not get entangled with the danger. And Junior's answer came sharply and precisely like a shot. "Today I'm a Seal and you're not my boss. We're a team and I'm coming with you." He said it with such confidence it blew me away. And it took Steve one second to recognize Junior as his brother. Junior is Steve's younger brother and he's always all in or nothing. I love his courage and the tender, shy side he always shows together with Tani. I love this boy and he's a good company for Steve. Keeps him sane.

Adam…Adam. Yeah, there's a lot going on. The way he laid down his gun and the badge was dramatic. I'm not sure yet what to think of that. I have always liked Adam. He fits into the team although he has never undergone any police training. He's born and bred Yakuza got taught from his father, a big name in that world. He should have had the courage to just tell Steve that things went wrong and he has to quit the team. That would have been the right thing to do.

The way he did hide information to safe his girlfriend was okay for me. Steve would have done the same, Lou and also Danny were already in such a situation and they just did what had to be done without informing anyone. But with Adam things went sideways and he went rogue, also emotionally and friendship-wise. After everything was settled he should have gone to Steve and get things out of the way. Steve would have understood. There, I don’t get Adam’s intentions.

Quitting the team like that? The worst imaginable way for Steve. You don't just quit the team and that's an emotional blow for Steve just because Steve cares for every single member on his team. But as I see it, Adam's world shifted when he lost Kono. Being an important member of the Yakuza makes you a slave, for a lifetime. You never can get out. So, they say. No freaking chance. Adam's history proves that. He killed his brother. He tried to be an honest businessman only to realize his past bites him in the ass. He ran away and tried to start a new life with Kono only to lose Kono to her obsession with a case that grew out of hand. Adam loves with all he's got. He has found new love with an old friend, unsurprisingly a daughter of a Yakuza boss. Adam grew up with all those people and now he's back in this energy. He knows the game. He's found a new woman and he loves again. For a man like Adam, he will do everything in his power to protect his woman. He won't lose again a woman he loves.

And his move to quit the team is about the woman he now loves. He has to stay close, by her side. Maybe he realized he only can really play one tune, only be fully immersed in one game, being on the Yakuza team. He betrays Five-O but as it seems Adam has reached a crossroad and his decision is made when he sits down at the head of a big table with other members of Tamiko's family and members of her father's clan.

Quinn…she wasn't in the episode and with some shame I have to admit I didn't even realize it. Not until someone pointed out that Quinn was missing. God, that's so horrible of me. She's a great team member but I seem to have a blind spot for her on the team. She doesn't leave an imprint. I can't tell you why. It's just…she's there and it's really good and she isn't and I don't miss her.

And the cliffhanger! Wo Fat is back. His name at least and seeing Steve's face when he spits his name revealed how much it pains him to just spell it. I think Steve might still have nightmares over what he had to undergo getting tortured, getting to hear dark, poisonous secrets his mother designed and everything came back to haunt Steve never to be really free of that massive emotional trauma. And now his nemesis is back in the form of Wo Fat's former wife. Just as cruel, brutal and cold-hearted as her husband. A killer seeking revenge with the deep wish to get to Steve.

Wow!

Season 10…ten points out of ten!
