FAQ

What programs do you use?

For animation I like to use Blender: Grease Pencil and Clip Studio Paint. For normal art stuff pretty much those programs as well with the addition of Adobe photoshop and illustrator for editing touches. I do plan on switching fully to the affinity designer suite once my school stops paying for my Adobe subscription.

For making music I used to use ableton live; I now use and prefer FLstudio.

How do you make those 3D illustrations?

I actually plan on making a few blog posts as well as a YouTube video about the process sooner or later. When I do I will be sure to link it right here. I usually do add rambles underneath the cut of a lot of my work if you are interested in my thought process.

What fandoms do you frequent?

While I primarily make art pertaining to the IM fandom I also like:

Sonic the Hedgehog; Parappa the Rapper: Sam & Max Freelance Police; Psychonauts; Mario/Paper Mario; Moomin Valley; Trolls; Rock-a-Fire Explosion; ROTTMNT. I also lurk a lot in the Undertale fandom.

At the moment? Yes! It’s summertime so my college schedule is less packed meaning more time for art! I’m experimenting with making some physical goods as well; something along the line of wooden figurines. That’s gonna cost me a little extra money; especially if I ship it to you; so I’ll stick with trading 3D art instead. If you’re interested in a trade let me know!

Side note; I can’t guarantee I’ll say yes to EVERYONE who asks. If I happen to say no please; please don’t take it personally.

Lastly; any cool projects you working on?

Yes actually; I’m currently working on making an AMV to my song You With Me/I’m your Guy. The song itself is unreleased; but it was originally made for my electronic music class final and morphed into its own beast. I’m trying to keep this project as low pressure for myself as possible; and since I have this horrible curse thing where if I talk about doing something too much life decides to throw something horribly life-changing my way I tend not to talk alot about the original things I make. What can I say I’m a boy failure like that.

But yeah the song I made is based off of my whole life pretty much becoming uprooted and flipped on its head last year. Getting thrown headfirst into the adult world is NOT a fun experience I’ll tell you that. And so I wanted to make visuals for it that really honors that feeling of the last threads of true child like naivety falling away.

I’m still really guarded when it comes to sharing the music I make; a habit I hope to break as I start this next degree. But if you’re interested in listening to the song before/if I ever finish that amv I’m sure once I publish my Neocity I’ll have a corner just dedicated to unreleased music for yall to listen to. That or if you really are curious you can ask and I may let you have a listen.

What the origin of your blog title? I was going through a bit of an art history phase when I first came up with it. 1) I was reallyyy into Van Gogh at the time. 2) I also knew I wanted something a bit funny/off beat. Thus, “vincentsleftear”. It’s been a while since then and I’ve moved on from the url on other platforms but I’ve kept it here. Idk, it just feels special :)

OTP(s) + ship names: ugh, where to start!! Right now Siuan and Moiraine (siuarane aka fishwives) have me in an absolute CHOKEHOLD. Of course, there’s Alicent and Rhaenyra (rhaenicent). I’ll be a Gerri and Karolina (Gerrolina) truther till I die and I don’t think I’ll ever be able to think about Agatha and Rio (agathario) and NOT go crazy. If I’m remembering correctly, my first real introduction into the world of shipping was Narcissa and Lucius (Lucissa), though I don’t really interact with the source material anymore for obvious reasons. Of course, I’ll always return to the two who INVENTED the game, Mulder and Scully (MSR).

Favorite color: Love blue but if we’re looking at the evidence it’d probably be green lol. I’m surrounded by it! My phone, my computer, my headphones, my bedspread, my decor! All green! On the other hand, my friends and family are always clowning me because apparently I almost exclusively wear white. I mean, they aren’t WRONG but istg it isn’t intentional! Idk, I must be subconsciously drawn to clothes in that color lol. I’ve heard everything from “it’s like you’re a cartoon character with a signature color palette” to “…did you join a cult and not tell us?”

Hobbies: I think I’m deep enough into the playlist making game for it to be considered a hobby at this point lol. You can pretty much track my hyoerfixations through my Spotify account bc the first thing I do when I’m enjoying a peice of media is run and make a playlist inspired by it. Right now I have 140 in total…😅. The NEXT thing I do is make a Pinterest board inspired by it lol.

Favorite movie/show: The Prince of Egypt (1998) is a cinematic masterpiece and my all time favorite. MINARI (2020) is one that I regularly recommend. If I try to list my fav shows we’ll be here all week lmao.

Favorite food: PASTA!!! Spaghetti specifically! But really any and all forms of pasta if we’re being honest here

Favorite animal: I’ve had a fascination with Orca whales ever since I was little. They are sooo interesting and incredibly intelligent and DEEPLY terrifying. The Blackfish (2013) documentary definitely left an imprint on my psyche.

What were you like as a child? Super chatty, incredibly hyper with a complete inability to sit still, and loud. I wasn’t a bad kid but it was things like this that got me into trouble at school *quite* often. In the beginning, I tried really hard to be a teacher’s pet but I found out quickly that it just wasn’t in the cards for me. So I became the class clown lol.

Favorite subject at school? I really enjoyed English and Literature but my favorites were definitely my social studies classes. History, human geography, government, politics!! Those were my thing!

Least favorite subject? MATH. Geometry was (and still is) my mortal enemy.

What’s your best character trait? always authentically myself

What’s your worst character trait? Chronic procrastinator. I tend to withdraw or getting a bit mean when I’m stressed/overwhelmed but that’s something I’m working on!

If you could change any detail of your day right now what would it be? The weather has been soo bleak recently. No sun, just rain and cold. Also! Over the past few days my government has been repealing protections (some of which have been in place since the 60s) that prevent discrimination on the basis of race, sexuality, and gender. Consequently, as a Black gay woman, I’ve been living in a constant state of intense anxiety and panic. So. That. I’d change that.

Anyways, the mass amounts of internalised racism within fandoms created by Snow White's descendants is actually insane. Even crazier in this fandom bc let's be fr, it may be small but it is HELLA diverse in here, when it comes to actual ppl anyway...them ocs tho...

That anon last night (and many others bc yall LOVE to yap abt POC but nobody holds the cloudy crusaders accountable) nobody is saying anyone owes anyone rep, but it's also unfair to Erik to say that his writing is "slanted" by his white privilege. When he literally has tons of POC coded characters which is why the fandom mainly agrees that they r infact POC, confirmed or not that counts as a representation of our lived experience. And I cannot stress this enough, the characters and Erik are not the same. Yes he pours a little of himself in all of his characters I like to think, but a character is never truly a direct reflection of it's writer. Project all you want they're still not identical, meaning they 9 times outta 10 are gonna have a different life experience, background, beliefs, habits, ethnicity etc. Also meaning that there was probably research done on others' experiences, which yall obviously can't be bothered to do bc all ur ocs r either a cloud, whipped cream or fucking reflective. So if anyone's writing is tainted by privilege it's YALLS.

And imma use myself as an example bc I used to do this shit too, which is probably why it pisses me off so bad. Back a couple years ago when I originally found redacted, all my OCs were originally supposed to b white men....dramatic pause, however comma, with this thing called growth and accountability I learned that, that was in fact internalised racism AND sexism because I had lived my life wishing I could be exactly that. White. A cis man. I don't think yall get it, there was internalised. self. loathing. Fueled by the racism and sexism that I had been taught. And it is a choice you gotta make to open your fucking eyes and hold yourselves accountable bc this goes so much deeper than just yalls endless Taylor Swift clones.

POC rep even to this day is a fucking gem bro. And white ppl have been consistently catered to in real life AND in media. Stop bashing POC for a situation that has always been lose-lose. We're told to fuck off white creators and go make our own, and then we do and those creations and stories are ignored and disregarded or outright criticised for the lack of ass kissing to whites. Let's talk about the initial reaction to ATSV/ITSV. There were COUNTLESS white windbag brained bitches flocking to the internet to complain because there were "hardly any white ppl" and it was "too diverse." Do you see where I'm going with this? No? Yall are so accustomed to being catered to that you expect POC media to do the same, and when it doesn't you fucking condemn it. Permanent Hiatus?

I kind of forgot all about this account and the discord, oops. To anyone following here that isnt in the discord, I think Im gonna have to drop it 😔

My other servers are piling up, and this one has been pushed back so far idk if I can come back to it as an RP concept. I still really want to share the plot i had in mind however, and so I might actually write it! Post it to ao3 and everything. That'll take a long while though, but in the mean time I might remodel this blog into something more of a character directory to help share the story. (Will also get me in the habit of drawing out designs and such as a drawing exercise hopefully)

a whole 'nother story, you say? i'll bite. how did you find the whump community and what pushed you to make your blog?

I knew it. I knew someone was gonna ask. Y’all. Makin me type this shit out. (i am aware that i got myself into this)

In one word: Pokémon

Alright let’s break down the dumbfuck butterfly effect of how I got here.

It starts with an app I had on my iPod touch, which leads me to believe this was sometime in like 6th-8th grade (around the ages of 13-15 idk). The app was like this Pokémon ripoff type game which I played cuz I was bored, but there were also these forums you could dick around in. At one point, someone posted the link for a Pokémon personality test on this website called The Cave of Dragonflies, a site that I ended up finding really cool (and it still is!). 

Poking around on there I found Butterfree’s (the site owner) Pokémon fanfic (IT WAS NOT SEXY AT ALL YALL KNOW ME OKAY) and I really liked it! She was still in the process of writing it when I found it (she’s since finished it!), so I would check her tumblr (it’s @antialiasis I wasn’t sure if I wanted to tag her but maybe she’ll think this is funny so fuck it) periodically for updates on how the next chapter was progressing. I then just kinda got in the habit of checking it cuz I liked the stuff she posted.

She was always very open about the fact that she liked angst, torture, and pain in her stories, and I was happy to have found one (1) kindred spirit in that. Eventually, she discovered the whump community and posted about it, and therefore I found it too. Cue me diving down a rabbit hole, jumping from blog to blog and story to story. Eventually I settled on about 5 blogs that I just kept a tab open of an refreshed daily to read whatever (those are the blogs I tagged on my intro post so I’m not gonna do it again you know who you are 😳).

I don’t quite remember how long I just watched, but it had to have been at least a year because I distinctly remember reading whump shit in my bed at school in the summer of 2019, and I made my blog this year in July. So a very long time. Mostly because I really didn’t want to make a tumblr. Nothing against any of y’all, but there is kind of a stereotype against people who have one, especially in my social circles (which consist mainly of straight boys). I very much did not want to be someone who had a tumblr. Obviously, I eventually got over these feelings.

I could only be passive for so long, ya know? Watching all of y’all interact and share your stories and talk about your characters made me want to join in and share my own things too and give more feedback than just the occasional anon. Also I sort of got to know some of the people through my lurking, and I wanted to actually be friends with them (especially the clowns >_< watching y’all be homies when I liked all of you really made me want to join in (*/ω＼*) very blessed to be where I am today). 

So yeah this summer I had a lot of time on my hands and after I finished up my online school from studying abroad at the end of June I was like “you know what fuck it I want to discuss pain and write my stories”. So yeah that was that.

In conclusion I might not be here if it wasn’t for a stupid app I downloaded when I was a kid or the Pokémon site it led me to 😳 so big shoutout to Butterfree I owe her my life. And I haven’t regretted my decision to make an account for a single second, y’all are just the best (❁´◡`❁)

I haven’t felt as much need to unload on here since installing Pacifica (thank you @armsintheair !!!!!) and it’s been helping me track my mood and journal more consistently. Because of my cyclothymia I end up with some pretty odd modd combinations by the end of the day. I can also keep track of my habits and set reminders which is awesome. 

I had a lot of fun at Bodyvibe! There was a huge range of ages and shape so I immediately felt comfortable. I did have some dance class flashbacks on some of the steps. I reminded myself the point is to move, not to do it perfectly, and so I just kept going. It was an hour long class I kept in peak zone for 12 minutes and pretty much all the rest (except the first couple minutes) had me in cardio. It was really fun and my quads are feeling it when I go up stairs, but other than that not much soreness. I did a short arm circuit on the weight machine while I waited for the previous class to let out, and I over did it a tiny bit so my elbows are real sore. It would have been fine, but I didn’t realize how much arm work would do with the resistance bands! I’m going back tomorrow :)

In looking for an outfit to wear (covers everything but still breatheable and yes, of course, cute. first impressions!) I realized I hate most of my workout clothes, either because they don’t fit right (so why are they still in the basket, in the way of the things that do) or aren’t seasonal. SO I;m picking up a couple of capris and some tops. Gonna take a load of stuff to Plato’s Closet and throw in the very gently used pieces and probably donate the others that I don’t like. I’m not too surprised at all this considering I am having the exact same struggle with my main wardrobe, but less about cut and more about it not being my style anymore. I’ve been adding pieces and fast and I subtract them so my next donation load will feature a bit of personal shopping as well I think.

I like keeping this blog, but I’m getting really tired of tumblr in general. I am a firm believer in curating your own experience, but I’ve been on here so long (seven years) I’ve made awesome bonds and they just really start to add up! Maybe a following purge will help. I wish I could just make this my main. I have a good deal of followers on my regular account though, so I’m not just gonna be like “surprise this is a health blog now”. I still find it fairly useful for news but not quite as much, I just visit different sites and continue to talk about it (almost ceaselessly) with friends. I deleted the app so it’s a pain in the ass to upload personal photos and fitbit screenshots. Maybe I will just remake and only follow mental/physical health blogs. It is way easier to connect with folks when the main blog isn’t so obviously non-health (I have mutuals and followers with issues about this stuff so I try really hard to keep it separate so no one feels uncomfortable). Regret over deletion probably last like, an hour? Hmm. I feel like I’m being a little dramatic, but there’s a lot of stuff on my main I really like, and I don;t wanna lose it all. Maybe just stay signed off and make a brand shiny new account with a different log in, so then I have [hannah montana voice] the bessssttt of both worlds

I’m considering doing a health ig because it is easier to switch and it is also now the only social media app I have on my phone. Unless you count Pinterest. Which I do not. (seriously, delete the fb app, your life will improve so much)(so will your data use). DO any of yall have fitness/health IG in addition to your main account? Do you think it help connect to others, or just like an additional stress? I’m not interested in followers but I also don’t want to feel like I’m shoutinginto the void. Things to mull over.

hi, friends! im mandi, the (obvious) owner of this blog! i thought, in order to make this blog at least halfway decent (unlike my 7 other blogs yikes), it should get a little more personal. so, here's some basic stuff about me, all r5-related, of course. because i know nobody cares about the rest lmao. first things first: yes, i know how to english. i choose to use grammar, capitalization, and punctuation improperly on the internet. i promise you, these habits dont follow me into school. no worries, lil buns. • my name's mandi, as i said. it's short for amanda, if you really care (youd think i wouldnt have to say that. my friends are literally surprised when they hear that. lord help me). • ive been part of the r5 family since sometime in the summer of 2012 • ive seen r5 in concert 3 times: april 2013, may 2014, and february 2016 • i have a signed r5 poster and shirt, both of which came from the 2013 show • yes, i ship rydellington • no, i dont hate any of the boys' girlfriends. they're all so lovely, i don't understand why yall give them crap for no reason. • ive always wanted to be part of the girlfriend squad • i cant remember a time in my life when i didnt want to be rydel's best friend • that goes for the rest of them, as well • no, i dont have a favorite. i dont play favorites. • if i were to marry a lynch, it'd be riker. 100% • no, i dont care that he's, like, ten years older than me. it's hypothetical. i know im a dreamer. • i was backer number 137 to colossal youth's finishing funds • my top 5 favorite songs are (in no particular order): pass me by, i want u bad, dark side, ready set rock, and repeating days • if i had to pick a favorite ep, it'd be loud • if i had to pick a favorite album, it'd be sometime last night • i just got out of a period in my life where i wasn't super involved with r5 anymore. im 100% back in the game now, though. • the main thing that pulled me back in was that i started reading a lot of r5 imagines. then one thing led to another and im back and better than ever. • im 95% sure nobody's read this far • im 90% nobody even read the first fact • i did a lot of instagram roleplay (not sexual, ya lil dirty bums). it went on for about four (ish) years. i met two of my best friends ever through it. my main account was a rydel roleplay. • the reason i started roleplay has to do with ross • dont ask about the roleplay. it's pretty much completely in my past now • my imagine blog, @geekyimaginepancake, has lots and lots of r5 imagines (none of which are mine but good job, writers) •this list is longer than i'd expected it to be • cool • if you want me to list my favorite r5 imagine blogs, let me know and that'll be another post in the future • im listening to r5 right now • atm, wild hearts is playing • way back in the day, i had an r5 instagram fanpage. we dont talk about that anymore. • yes, i used to write a lot of r5 fanfiction • no, i dont still write fanfiction • yes, i still have access to my r5 fanfics • no, i will never share them with anyone • this is wayY too long.
