prequelle x reputation parallels
why i think these two albums are, primarily the same thing
first of all, i think i should clarify this is pure stuff from my idiotic brain. i’m heavily influenced by taylor swift and i have a deep nonsensical adoration for the absoluteness of Ghost, so bear with me. this is the voice in my head telling me i should just let it be spoken into the void and echo the connections i've made between them
that said, let’s start, because this will be super long but i need you to stick with me, okay?
Reputation is taylor swift's sixth studio album. basically, miss swift spent three years without releasing a single thing, neither publicly showing up from february 2016 until august 2017 because of some stuff that happened since the Red era. so if you aren't familiar with what happened, here's a succinct explanation:
around 2013, there was a rumor about three of katy perry's dancers joining taylor's Red Tour but leaving before the tour concluded to join the Prismatic Tour (katy's);
in 2014, taylor released Bad Blood with all her famous friends - at the time called The Taylor Swift Squad - featured in the MV. people would swear the song was about katy but miss swift gave Rolling Stone Magazine an interview saying it was about someone else;
around june 2016 calvin harris (taylor's ex) tweeted about taylor wanting to "bury katy" after a few things going around about What We Came For drama. to sum this up, taylor co-wrote this song under a pseudonym, but he said in an interview during the promotion of the song he'd never collab with her;
if you know the tiniest about taylor, you know about the VMAs drama, and we know they were "okay" after it. but in 2016 there was that phone call, where taylor authorized to be mentioned in the song, but he never said she'd be called "that bitch". so taylor issued her statement on instagram about the mention of her name in a song where she's being degraded;
kim started to call her a snake on social media, there was the TaylorSwiftIsOverParty tag trending, her friends attacking her, and then... boom. taylor vanished and only came back when she released Look What You Made Me Do in 2017.
now, what does this have to do with Ghost and Prequelle? here's the fun part.
if you're a fan of Ghost for a while, you know about the lawsuit, and if you don't, that's okay. i won't go into much detail about it, but the former members of the band sued tobias, he won, and here's where Prequelle shines - and when i started to make my evil connections between Prequelle and Reputation back when it was released in the beautiful date of june 1st 2018 (most of them are purely for fun, some with a little bit more of my weird mind trying to find hair on eggshells. either way, enjoy the meal).
they both are a letter of what happened in their lives in the past. Faith is a big slap on the face, such as LWYMMD. i like to joke that Prequelle is Ghost's Reputation because it was written about something that messed with Tobias - and consequently, the band too.
we were finally - against Tobias' will - aware of Papa's true identity under the mask (even tho sometimes i think papa is a totally distinct person; truly horrifying to consider it's tobias under that rubber mask... wdym that's not Tyrone Emeritus aka Terzo?), he lost the trust in people he was around sharing literally everything - a bus, stage; a life if you think too hard... you share a lot when you're on the road.
people were protesting during shows (which's dumb tbh. why would you pay to watch the man you are protesting against? i don't get people), a lot of media digging the grave, and tobias was accused of stuff i won't mention because we don't know if it's true or not, and i prefer not to touch this subject. and his brother was brought up, which's fucking shitty and low if you ask my opinion. he was going thru personal and professional mayhem, and with the band growing each day, it was hard to keep it all under the covers - especially if the media was around, wanted to talk about and everyone always wanted to know who papa was. it was all a big circus on fire to watch.
similar to what happened to taylor, who had lies spread out, people being mean on social media about her, making her leave, and doubting her principles. friends turning their backs, and people she believed she could depend on walking past the line separating her and the enemy.
basically, it was their vengeance album. the one to let all the wrath and ominous emotions they were saving from the past year(s) be discharged. and let's be honest, they are both good albums.
but, they're not only about bad things, they have good stuff too, and i'll mention all the silly dumb associations i made between them that are not altogether reasonable, but fun.
both Rep and Prequelle were released in a one-year time gap;
both have songs about dancing on their title (Dancing With Our Hands Tied and Dance Macabre);
tobias would scream at the "i've got a list of names, and yours is in red underlined" part if he ever even listened to the pop radio station;
Witch Image "while you sleep in earthly delight, someone's flesh is rotting tonight" and I Did Something Bad "they're burning all the witches even if you aren't one" witch mention;
still in I Did Something Bad, we have the chorus "they say i did something bad, then why's feel so good?" and i simply connect with copia. exceptionally his current self, and the whole thing going on with him. but also, maybe, tobias and the band thing. saying he did something bad, even if he didn't - we don't know - but it was good and worthy in the end;
still in the Dance Macabre x Dancing With Our Hands Tied subject, we have the lyrics, "there's a sting in the way you kiss me" and "i had a bad feeling, but we were dancing, dancing with our hands tied" respectively, which talk about the sensation of something being wrong but not figuring out what it is;
This Is Why We Can't Have Nice Things "did you think i wouldn't hear all the things you said about me" as in an "all truth comes to light, no matter how hard you try to hide" way;
still in the TIWWCHNT, correlates with Faith "i am all eyes, i am all ears, i am the wall, and i'm watching you fall" and the "you stabbed me in the back while shaking my hand" - again from TIWWCHNT correlating to the old member's situation;
Call It What You Want is a big one for me because i like to think this would be a promising one when talking about what tobias did and what happened after and during the lawsuit. the fact he was out of sight to work on Prequelle, people calling him a liar; but feeling better now that it was over and he knows his truth. laughing with his lover, he knows he did one thing right (ref. to the CIWYW lyrics);
Rep is also an immense love letter from taylor, and i think some songs on Prequelle give me the remotest of a hopeless romantic on copia's part, but i won't get too much into it. just the fact there's a lot of a misplaced disconcerting feeling for the passion and caring of someone you hold close but you can't do much. a powerless sensation of attempting to help but knowing you can't change what is already done - only wait for the aftermath.
anyways, with all that i can assure you, i'm gone full delulu mode, but somehow this whole thing makes sense in my head. if you read until here, you're a true one.
i have several essays about ghost i could talk about all day but i try to prevent yall from seeing my insanity in action, but with the Midnights release i've decided to give it up for once.
thank you and see you a next time *bows and departs from the stage* *curtains fall*

LIFE LESSONS from TOBIAS FORGE
Shock rock, bad glam bands and wanting to be Venom: inside the brain of Ghost's benevolent overlord
Tobias Forge is the mastermind behind one of the 21st century's hottest metal bands, but even he’ll admit that success was a long time in the making. Hailing from the Swedish city of Linköping, the Ghost frontman dabbled in everything from death metal to glam before donning the iconic Papal attire and paint to transform into Papa Emeritus, transcending his roots to become a larger-than-life character. Here are the key parables he has to share, gleaned from more than 25 years on the heavy metal frontlines.
MUSIC AND MOVIES ARE GATEWAYS TO OTHER WORLDS
“Linköping was a nice city to grow up in. It wasn’t so small you felt like you were cramped in a village, but it’s small enough that you’d still want to eventually move somewhere else. You’d have access to all these gateways to other worlds through the record stores and the local video store. My dreams started there - everything I do now, I dreamt back there.”
I WAS A TEENAGE HEADBANGER
“I had a teenage brother growing up, so I had a free pass into teenage culture. Whatever they consumed, I got a whiff of - how they dressed, what they watched on TV, what films they rented... The lifestyle and expression that meant most to me was shock rock. Twisted Sister were a wrecking ball into my life with I Wanna Rock. That song made me want to bounce!”
THE HEAVIER IT GOT, THE DEEPER I WANTED TO GO
“When I first heard Candlemass, I was eight and I was blown away. I already liked Black Sabbath, Metallica and Motorhead through my brother, but Candlemass were local and sounded so heavy, it was like doomsday. King Diamond and Candlemass served as a segue for me to discover death metal and black metal in the early 90s. It became my calling. From the ages of 12 to 22, I spent my life in death and black metal bands.”
FOLLOW YOUR HEART (AND SOMETIMES YOUR WALLET)
“My mom is from Stockholm, so when I was 15 and started saying I wanted to move there, she was just like ‘Finish mandatory school’ and we moved together [after I graduated]. I moved back to Linköping when I was 25, because Stockholm is a big metropolitan place and it’s not fun living in those places if you don’t have money. Now I’m in Stockholm again; it’s more fun now I can afford it!”
HEAD IN THE CLOUDS, FEET ON THE GROUND
“I learned the hard way in the late 90s that wanting to play 80s-inspired death metal with my band Repugnant was     painfully out of touch with what was going on at the time. It broke my heart; I wanted us to be signed to Roadrunner and support Slayer. That never happened unfortunately - or perhaps fortunately, as it kept me grounded for a few more years and if those things had happened maybe I wouldn't be here today.”
TAKE CHANCES, BUT STAND YOUR GROUND
“Repugnant had a close shave with success. We signed to the label Hammerheart, which at the time felt like we’d made it because the first thing they did was take us out on our first tour, supporting the American band Macabre. They were a favourite band of ours - still are, and whenever we play Chicago they come to the shows - and at that point it felt like we might be going somewhere, but we quickly parted ways with Hammerheart because we couldn’t agree. It felt like our chance and we’d blown it.”
NOT ALL 80S BANDS WERE CREATED EQUAL
“With Crashdiet, we never really went beyond our home. I can’t say how many shows we did, but I don’t think it was more than a handful. For me especially there was conflict with the singer, Dave Lepard. We were friends, but he clearly wanted to take his band into some sort of glam-sleaze direction, whereas when I think of ‘glam’ I’m more Hanoi Rocks and Guns N’ Roses - never, ever the other bands. I know Poison kinda came before a lot of the latecomers, but to me they were repellent. Dave wanted to go all neon and I wanted it so that if we were glam, we’d be Hanoi Rocks meets Lords Of The New Church or The Dead Boys. I don’t want to be fucking Stryper! Fuck that!”
THERE’S NO POINT TRYING TO FOLLOW FASHION
“It was a confusing time in the early 2000s – rock was all of a sudden in fashion because of bands like Franz Ferdinand and Kaiser Chiefs. Everyone was always looking for the next big rock band and in Sweden The Hives were huge, as were The Soundtrack Of Our Lives, The Hellacopters, Backyard Babies...so many rock bands! But there we were in Subvision, influenced by The Dead Boys, with a little-too-long hair, leather jackets, just a little too ‘metal’... yuck! You’re supposed to be more indie; heavy metal is about having the biggest dick and indie is the opposite.”
FIRST IMPRESSIONS REALLY DO COUNT
“I hated The Strokes when they first came out. Back then, everyone described them as being so natural, that they weren’t interested in being rock stars, and I was like, ‘No. They didn’t wake up looking like that.' They chose to do that to be rock stars. And they can really play! Then when First Impressions Of Earth came out it was like, ‘There you go! That's what they really sound like! After that, I loved The Strokes, because they were showing they actually did love the music, but a lot of indie rockers treated it like it was their sell-out record.”
HAVE A VISION IN MIND
“Ghost started with a song, Stand By Him, which ultimately came out on our first record. I wrote it spontaneously, as an experiment - almost a joke, if you will, in 2006. When I recorded it the first time, I had no equipment in my home, so I had to go to a friend’s house. We did this very rough demo. He said it was great. He’d been in Subvision, Repugnant and Crashdiet with me, but we’d stopped playing together. He was like, ‘Can we form a new band?’ and I was like, ‘This song is the only thing I have. If I can come up with two more songs and there’s a pattern, then of course.’ But they needed to be as playful and spontaneous, and sure enough they were.”
PRESSURE CAN DO WONDERS
“Around 2008, when Ghost were first getting properly started, my girlfriend told me she was pregnant with twins. I never said it out loud, but I was preparing for my dream not coming true - maybe I wouldn’t become a rock star, I’d never be successful... So I had to at least have something that I could live with, a hobby that I could feel strongly about and get all my inclinations filtered through. I wanted to play metal, but also write pop music, have this horror rock show with theatre... Still taking inspiration from Venom pictures in 1982 where they looked like bikers surrounded by smoke and red lights. Ghost felt like a combination of all those things. Lo and behold, when I didn’t have all the time in the world, like I had before and gotten nowhere, when I could only put so much effort in, everything changed.”
THE MYTHOS IS NICE, BUT ONLY THE MUSIC MATTERS
“It was so weird, being threatened with a ‘reveal’ [Tobias’s public identity was revealed after ex-members took legal action against him in 2017I, as if people knowing who I was would be such a turn-off that they’d never listen to Ghost again. Here I am, most of my life wanting to be known, but then I was fighting to be unknown? What a paradox!”
ROLL WITH THE PUNCHES
“I’ve always tried to be like a general – have a goal, like, ‘Let’s take that castle’, but knowing that things can change in the field. You need to conduct yourself with a certain level of elasticity. I know I’m a control freak and want things to be done in a certain way, but I’m also aware things never work out that way.”
CHALLENGE YOURSELF
“One of the biggest weaknesses with modern metal - and horror - is that it’s being created and curated by people who only like that thing, so it becomes regurgitation. The best horror movies I’ve seen - Jaws, Bram Stoker’s Dracula, The Exorcist, The Omen - were made by people who never made horror films elsewhere. They wouldn’t limit themselves. If you don’t like other things, that’s fine, but if you ever feel stuck creatively it might just be that you’re sticking too close to home. I can’t even imagine just sticking to one lane these days.”

As somebody who has severe social anxiety, this was a gift.
Thank you Ghost and team especially Tobias Forge. They gave me the chance to see a really good show without the crowds and some really funny jokes to boot. Very very dark stuff. Always hilarious never boring. Thank you thank you thank you.

AFTONBLADET magazine on SWEDEN ROCK Ghost's magnificent show is: filthy close to perfection.
The Swedish rock act leaves the festival audience hungry for more.
Ghost
Location: Festival Stage, Sweden Rock Festival. Length: 90 minutes. Audience: Estimated around 35,000. Best: "Cirice", "Ritual", "Year zero", "Mummy dust" and "Kiss the go-goat". Worst: Not hearing the conversation because people are talking so damn loud.
Thé last time Ghost visited Sweden Rock was eight years ago.
The already hyped rock band played unchristianly late on the Rock Stage in front of a few thousand frozen visitors (I was one of them).
Of course, a lot has happened since then - sales records, rain of awards and nominations, Tiktok successes, all kinds of world dominance.
Tonight they are back, but as the main act on the festival's biggest stage.
It was written in the stars long ago.
The preacher and perfectionist Tobias Forge – in the role of Papa Emeritus IV – conducts the spectacle with a steady hand. Through grand choruses (“Watcher in the sky”), Yngwie Malmsteen drama (“Faith”) and menacing mystery (“Mummy dust”).
The frontman has every reason to stand wide-legged and straight-backed on the Festival Stage.
The well-directed show evokes by far the most engaged audience of the festival. Bruce Dickinson would surely have been jealous if he stayed another day at the festival.
“Year zero” has the crowd chanting “Hail Satan!” in unison. At any moment, Beelzebub may make an unexpected visit (perhaps one of the nameless guests can serve a cup of Gevalia?).
During the instrumental "Miasma" and the schlager-sprinkled "Spillways", the tens of thousands of hard rockers stand instead like little candles. Personally, I still get chills from the overly buttery chorus of the latter ballad, it seems to require an exorcism for that feeling to leave the body.
The framing of "Cirice" is particularly powerful.
At the beginning of the song, Forge is standing on a high platform, bathed in blood-red light. On the outside of his shirt he wears bat wings. He resembles Count Dracula (the Bram Stoker version) looking out over his Transylvanian estates looking for his next victim.
It's so damn nice and stately.
I can't imagine a better end to this year's Sweden Rock.

Please note that Kazuma can also be inserted into a modern verse where he works for the Prosecutor's Office after arriving from Japan.
Kazuma Asogi was born as the only son of Genshin Asogi and hails from a well-known clan.He becomes a student at Imperial Yumei University studying law, while also serving as a defense attorney. Due to his exemplary academic achievements, he was also chosen to study abroad in the British Empire towards the end of Japan's Meiji era. After his best friend Ryunosuke Naruhodo was put on trial for the murder of John H. Wilson and subsequently acquitted, Kazuma requested that he accompany him to Britain.
Kazuma is introduced as a composed, yet hot-blooded and outspoken youth with a strong sense of justice. He's well-known around his university for his accomplishments as being skilled in both academics and martial arts; and, despite his young age, had been chosen to participate in an exchange program to travel to the Great British Empire and earn the qualifications to become a defense attorney. However, after things take a turn for the worst and, while possessing dark secrets of his own, Kazuma ends up becoming a prosecutor to avenge his father's death.
He possesses a sharp tongue, and is quick to challenge or defy authority figures; a point of contention from local bailiffs and later, Mael Stronghart. This extends to a strong hatred for corrupt authority as well, as Kazuma displays contempt not only for the Japanese government attempting to use Naruhodo as a scapegoat, but for the British government having done the same thing to his father Genshin.
He can overdo things to a fault, as displayed by how he practiced the tongue twisters he struggled with until his tongue bled. Kazuma is also willing to go to great lengths in order to help his friends, even if it means risking his career and aspirations; and, despite his acerbic nature, is deeply respectful to those he cares about, and will never fail to encourage them. It is because of these traits that Kazuma is set up to be an ideal, one that his best friend Ryunosuke Naruhodo would think to in times of need.
Following his return, however, his presented image of an ideal is heavily deconstructed. What were traits initially presented as positive are now taken to a harmful extreme, with the most glaring being his determination. Even without memory, he was so determined that he traveled to the Great British Empire through working on steamships while relying on his knowledge of the English language, along with his skill in lawyering. As Naruhodo later discovers, this is all done in the name of avenging his father, displaying a strong dedication to filial piety.
However, said determination and loyalty leads him to go to extreme lengths, which can harm both others and himself. Such is shown by how Jigoku used this determination against him, as his condition to participate in the exchange program was to murder Tobias Gregson; and, later on, how he forces Daley Vigil to recall a traumatic memory in order to find the truth. His anger and determination towards van Zieks for the apparent use of forged evidence also leads Kazuma to be set on convicting van Zieks of Gregson's murder along with the Professor Killings.
Kazuma is also noted to be very closed-off about his problems and past, which becomes more apparent after the regaining of his memories. This is displayed by his closed-off body language, along with his eventual breakdown: trying, and failing to keep himself composed. That aspect of his has also been a long-running one, as Naruhodo notes that he has brief moments where he has a dark expression regarding his mission, yet says nothing; furthermore, Yujin Mikotoba states that he never knew that Kazuma had known about the Professor Killings and his father's involvement, which ultimately motivated him to travel to Britain.
However, Kazuma still retains his strong sense of justice, along with his love for his friends. He is ultimately able to see past his anger thanks to Naruhodo's words, and assist in exposing the truth behind the Professor Killings. He also displays strong consideration towards them, as he encourages Susato to accompany Naruhodo back to Japan in order to aid him in his work.
Kazuma is also noted to struggle with tongue twisters; and, although not revealed to be his least favorite food, he appears to have a strong dislike for chicken to the point where he ate none of it when it was served for dinner. In terms of hobbies, he is stated to practice archery with Naruhodo alongside other martial arts, speech and debate; and, as his conversations in the Prosecutor's office show, is implied to have an interest in arts and crafts.
