i wanna see a production of hamlet where he’s just. scared. so scared all the time. scared of losing his family, scared of his uncles anger, scared of his mom’s disapproval, scared of dying, scared of living. i wanna see him played as a terrified kid who’s eyes go wide with horror when he’s told the blade was poisoned. the whole play he’s putting off doing anything not because he’s unsure, but more because he’s scared of the consequences. what would his mom think?? what would his god think?? what would his best friend think of him if he went through with the revenge??? i want him to die with tears running down his face, holding horatio’s wrist with painful desperation to live while horatio cradles his head. i wanna see hamlet scared.

"average person has at least one bad dream per month" factoid is actually a statistical error. average person has zero bad dreams per month. prince hamlet, who is bounded in a nutshell and has sixteen million bad dreams per night, is an outlier adn should not have been counted

rosencrantz and guildenstern are dead is such a punch to the gut, they're so orpheus and eurydice coded. they don't know who they are without each other, and while gulidenstern desperately attempts to grasp for reality and understand, all rosencrantz can do is grab hold to guildenstern's hand as hard as he can and never let him go because guil is the only thing he knows. rosencrantz looks to guildenstern for answers, and guildenstern hunts for an answer because he can't fail rosencrantz he can't loose him, even if that means slipping into depression, at the same time rosencrantz will do anything to make guildenstern happy. beacuse all they have is each other, and they beg to change the ending, but they can't because at the end of the play rosencrantz and guildenstern are dead

hello me and my friend need a third opinion to settle a debate between us and I saw quite a lot of hamratio tags in your blog
in your opinion, what would be the exact reason horatio fell/might’ve fallen for hamlet? traits, etc.
hello!!
his big, beautiful eyes...
no, but in all seriousness, this is a wonderful question! i love speculating on what hamlet was like before the death of his father and thankfully the text gives us a few clues as to this saying he was loved by all.
so, when i think of horatio falling for hamlet i like to think that the first thing he saw in him was his kindness and gentleness even. i imagine he treated him as an equal and horatio loved listening to him for his intelligence and wit but also loved that hamlet was willing to listen to him in turn. i like imagining them staying up late debating for hours and coming away from it near to tears from laughter at the end of it at 4am. i think horatio would really appreciate hamlet's willingness to learn as well as his earnestness.
horatio, in my opinion, sees in hamlet everything a great man should be. kind, thoughtful, passionate, honest, intelligent. emotionally intelligent, even. but i like to imagine that hamlet has always been in touch with his emotions, even before the death of his father.
i think, before elsinore, horatio would be hard pressed to find a trait in hamlet he didn't like and that he put him on a pedestal and said, if i can be at his side, i'll be content. of course the rug is pulled out from under him later but he still loves hamlet and is willing to do anything for him. including calling him out if need be.
i hope this helps!

hamlet update: they’ve painted red splotches on the stage in the spots where gertrude, laertes, and cladius die. the paint is there from act 1 but you don’t realize why it’s there until the characters start dropping in act 5 scene 2. something something predestination something something to be a character in a play is to be trapped in a time loop something something they’ve been dead from the beginning

I've had a vague urge to get more into Shakespeare for years; what are the top 3-5 plays you'd recommend that AREN'T Hamlet or Much Ado? And what version of each is your favorite?
(sorry for omitting two god tier ones but I've already seen David Tennant in each of those and I surmise that you're insane about both so I'm looking for some new plays)
gonna be some basic bitch answers but here:
macbeth - the tragedy of macbeth (2021) movie adaptation starring denzel washington. this movie is fucking stunning and the way they did the witches was SO good. also i have the throne of blood (kurosawa's adaptation) also on my watchlist since i've heard REALLY good things about it
richard ii - 2013 rsc production w/ david tennant (link). he gives me catastrophic gender envy, i need to become more masculine to become more feminine etc. ben whishaw in the hollow crown series (link) is great too
romeo and juliet - romeo + juliet (1996) movie adaptation directed by baz luhrmann. this is like, the most well known romeo and juliet and you might've watched it already but i'm listing this anyway because there will never be a better mercutio and the way they did the setting is SO fucking funny and inspired
twelfth night - so far only saw this one Outside On The Grass Where They Performed This At My College but i liked it a lot... reccing the 2012 globe production with mark rylance (part 1 / part 2) (his hamlet was one of dt's favorites as an aspiring actor) (i'm putting my faith in letterboxd and david's taste for this one)
coriolanus - 2014 donmar production w/ tom hiddleston (on archive.org). this is directed by josie rourke, who also directed dt/ct's 2011 much ado! the staging and the effects are fucking awesomeeee (also peter de jersey and elliot levey are in this, i love them)
also shoutout to the ones i want to watch:
the 2016 production of a midsummer night's dream w/ ncuti gatwa (i have found nowhere to pirate it and i might just crack and pay the 10 dollars to watch it)
the 2015 production of the love's labour's lost w/ edward bennett (he played laertes in hamlet (2009) and he's REALLY underrated, i love his benedick SO FUCKING MUCH even if that production overall was a little dull)
either hollow crown's or greg doran's henry iv (it's two whole plays i need so much time to watch that. and ideally i want to watch both lol)
kurosawa's ran (1985), an adaptation of king lear set in 1500s japan
vishal bhardwaj's omkara (2006), an adaptation of othello set in india

Tbh, if for some reason I were directing hamlet, I would have him kiss half the cast and also I would very much so emphasize the homoerotic undertones between hamlet and horatio because horatio did not give the good night sweet prince speech to be called hamlets good friend

i found more art from 2020! here’s a hamlet piece themed around some essay i wrote about something something him being torn into all different directions from authority figures’ expectations in his life and not truly being allowed to grieve or really Be Himself for a while, not while he was performing all these roles and wishes of others and subject to the expectations of being a Prince and being expected to have Gotten Over It already something something

I have an assignment for English to stage a scene from Hamlet and my group chose the gravediggers and Ophelia’s funeral (Act 5 Scene 1). We have to keep the dialogue but can mess with the stage directions. I am just crowdsourcing ideas if anyone has any??????
