Happiest of Birthdays to @monsterrae1 this fic is a gift to you my dear and I’m very sorry it got so long and out of hand! 😬

Chapter 1 is here and I’m going to update on Wednesdays.

To everyone whose been so supportive and enthusiastic 😬 Maybe you’ll read along or wait till the end but I hope you enjoy it. I have to say I’m quite pleased with it 😊

Eddie steps out of the cab, closes his eyes and breathes in deeply. The sun is warm on his skin, the sounds and smells wrap around him and say home, safe, love.

He only opens his eyes when a beloved and familiar voice calls his name then within moments he’s wrapped in arms that are soft warm and surprisingly strong for a woman her size.

“Mi amor you’ve grown so much!” His abuela sucks in a breath of air another familiar sound and he grins to himself, knowing what will come next. “You’ll be taller than me soon!”

He knows that too and has mixed feelings about it, before very long he will be taller than her which will be cool obviously but mark a certain change in their relationship he’s not really ready for in ways he can’t quite articulate.

As suddenly as he was embraced the person he loves best in all the world holds him out at arms length and studies him closely, brown eyes wrinkling at the corners.

“So handsome” she taps her cheeks and he bestows a kiss in the required spot. Noting that he really is almost as tall as her now.

“Come, it’s time for lunch and then you can meet the new guests, we have three right now.”

Something sad flashes across her face and she looks at him with a thoughtful expression and says, almost to herself , “Maybe having someone younger around will help.”

She doesn’t elaborate and Eddie doesn’t ask, just follows his beloved abuelita towards the ranch he spends his summer holidays at each year. It’s without doubt the best part of his year. And this year, now he’s thirteen he’ll be allowed to run on his own for the first time. Not that he doesn’t enjoy running with the pack but it’ll be fun to have a little more freedom.

Walking into the old ranch style kitchen Eddie feels more at home than he does at home. At the kitchen table there’s a man in a suit, not old, not young, tall and thin. Dark eyes made darker by the shadows beneath them.

He looks tired. He must be one of the new ones then. They always look tired at first. Eddie smiles at him and gets a brighter smile than he was expecting in return.

His Abuela would have explained who he was very clearly to her guest.

Behind him he recognises an older woman who was here last summer too, she must have decided to stay on. He understands why, he’d stay too if he could.

His Aunt Pepa will be somewhere, the cousins too. He’s excited to see them again.

Out of the corner of his eye someone else walks into the kitchen and slumps into a chair at the table, head going down almost immediately. Judging by the brief look he got she’s probably still in high school, well probably not any more if she’s here. Her hair is dyed blue and green, cut short and there’s a tattoo of a flower and moon visible on her neck. He wonders if she got that before or after. There are two more he can’t work out on the folded arms she’s resting her head on.

That’s guest number two then, his Abuela said three new ones. He wonders where the third guest is. He’s been here with as many as six newbies before but not often.

Abuela is fussing around the table. Putting food on plates. Guests eat first and family later but as he’s only just arrived he’ll be allowed to join here too.

He sits down, reaches for a plate and starts to pile it up.

Abuela sits down and the girl sits up, the man straightens, everyone’s eyes on the small but most important person at the table.

She takes a bite and then everyone else starts to eat.

He wonders where the last guest is, they don’t usually eat separately. It’s one of Abuela’s rules for the house guests. The others, the ones that live or stay in the cabins scattered across the property will drop in and out as they please but everyone is invited to family dinner each month on the Sunday before the full moon.

Making a mental note to ask about the missing guest later Eddie takes his first, long anticipated bite of his grandmother's home cooking and relaxes with a sigh. It’s perfect, just as he remembers.

As the food disappears the mood at the table lightens and Eddie finds out a little more about the guests. Their names, what they like to do best at the ranch and their favourites of Abuela’s meals.

He doesn’t ask how it happened to them. That’s just rude, but he wonders anyway. He always wonders. Sometimes they share the story with him, more often they don’t.

He can’t imagine what it must be like for them, the life he’s grown up with, the gifts that run in his blood and are very welcomed, feel totally normal to him. To have the same life suddenly thrust upon them must be, well Eddie doesn’t think he has the right words for it. He’s thirteen now and for the first time he thinks he understands the trauma around that in a way he hasn’t ever considered before.

To be bitten, not born. He shudders, just a little. How do the people his Abuela helps here, those she protects and guides while they adjust to it all manage.

He can’t imagine but he’s glad it isn’t him, he’s glad he was born wolf. Eddie’s proud to be part of a family pack and he doesn’t want it any other way.

Mostly the MCU. Frostiron my beloved 💕 I recently posted a Huskerdust fic, though, and a couple years ago I posted some Good Omens stuff! I have another Good Omens wip brewing, but I haven‘t worked on it in a while.

4. Top five fics by kudos

First one up would be Your Call, a multi-chaptered ABO Frostiron thing that‘s sadly unfinished because I‘m not happy with where it was going somehow. Then Corners of Reality, my baby, Yes or No, Dereliktion and last but not least Vita Nova!

5. Do you respond to comments?

God I try. I’m so bad at it though. On long fics I always answer comments on the last chapter when I post the new one, but I keep forgetting to reply to comments on older chapters or oneshots😭 They all mean the world to me though.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

Ohh I wrote a few angsty oneshots but it‘s been a while. Maybe Here, that‘s the most recent one. Of the older ones I remember all my light most clearly. Tony is dead or dying in both of these lol, poor Loki.

7. What is the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

I like to think the happiest endings in stories are ones you had to fight for a little bit, so maybe Dereliktion. That was a long ride filled with angst and messed up relationships lol. I think Haywire (my first and so far only Sentinel/Guide fic, I love that trope a lot akfj) also has a pretty fluffy ending, and I have some oneshots that are pretty much all fluff!!

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Occasionally? Just the other day I got another anon ask on here complaining about my recent stories. Makes me extra thankful for everyone who takes the time to tell me they enjoy my stuff!!💖

9. Do you write smut?

I do! Pretty much all the time lol. I love writing Dom/sub relationships!

I don‘t think I‘ve ever written one before?

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Yesss. I‘m not sure if they just didn’t know any better though, they deleted the copied parts as soon as I told them.

Yes!! I‘m always so happy when that happens!!

Also yes. One year I did a whole Frostiron Advent calendar with @rabentochter (do you remember this????? How did we have the time??????? Insane) and we wrote a few more collabs beyond that.

Frostiron!!!!!!!!!!!! I love my sassy messed up geniuses lol

15. What’s a wip you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Uhhh I‘ve got a few. I‘d like to finish/rewrite Your Call. Once I also had the cracky fever dream of Loki doing random standup comedy shows in New York because he‘d KILL that. Can you imagine the sarcasm. The gallow‘s humor. Anyway I started that and then realized I Cannot Write Standup Routines at all. So there‘s that.

16. What are your writing strengths?

What I like to write the most is character and relationship development, so hopefully I‘m decent at that? Also dialogue, I hope, but that kinda comes and goes depending on the conversation.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

I kinda suck thinking of longish plot that goes beyond “will they kiss?? Will they FUCK???” so I’ve been trying to practice that. Also scenes with lots of action😭

18. Thoughts on dialogue in another language?

I like it. I’ve been wanting to write a fic where Tony can properly show off his language skills but I don’t know enough languages to pull that off lol

19. First fandom you wrote in?

The VERY first was Dracula, back when I was 13 or so. I had a big thing for van Helsing back then. My first fandom on ao3 was Once Upon a Time!!

20. Favorite fic you’ve written?

Ooohhh. That would be Corners of Reality, because I worked on it for years before I even started posting it and I love how it turned out. It’s a slow burn time travel enemies to friends to almost lovers to enemies to friends to lovers to enemies to allies to lovers fic. I had SO much fun writing it I still think about it all the time😭😭

(I had a soft goal of trying to break a million this year, but I probably won't quite make it. Ah well, next year!)

3. What fandoms do you write for?

Literally anything I see or read that happens to hit squirrel-brain in the right spot: Stargate, Star Wars, Cosmere / Stormlight Archive / Sanderson's books generally, Loki series & other MCU media, OFMD, Good Omens, Dresden Files, Star Trek (and one-offs for random-ass shows like the Mentalist, 1899, tLoVM, Echoes, etc). Honorable mentions to past beloved fandoms that I'm not super likely to really get back to again include Midsomer Murders, the Witcher, Assassin's Creed, and the Expanse 💕

4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?

Top spot is A wonderful thing (OFMD); the next four in order are all Witcher - A Tight Fit, Stolen Moments, Keep it up, and Undignified.

5. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not?

I do! I love seeing people's reactions, and letting them know how much I appreciate that they took the time and energy to comment (because fuck knows, I don't always have the spoons to comment on stuff myself). And it's so nice to get that connection with people and get excited about stuff together!

(I have missed some replies here and there just because of over-stressing about what to respond, and subsequently feeling guilty that I left them unanswered so long 🙈 ahh, anxiety-brain, you sure are special)

6. What's the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

This is one is easy, it's definitely Zombie / what's in your head. One of only two times I've written Major Character Death, and the only time I've used the Angst and Tragedy tag.

It's fucking brutal, honestly. Damn good, but ouch. Dark. Sometimes I reread it when I just want to cry hopelessly for awhile. It's like an... emotional reset or something.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Most of my fics have happy endings in the happy-sexy-sated vein, but most of my fics are also happy-sexy-oneshots so there isn't any real conflict or worry to come back from that makes the happy ending something that wasn't a given, if that makes sense. My first thought for something more involved was Inflection Point, but it's not exactly a happy ending for everyone. So I think I'll go with Curious Creatures, because even though I know how it ends and I wrote the damn thing, I still somehow get worried it will have a sad ending every time I go back and reread it, and then I'm relieved all over again at the end.

(Honorable mention to the Adventures of Admiral Prawn and Yee-Claw, because how can we not be happy that he found his lost hat with the help of a new friend 😂)

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Honestly nowhere near as much as I'd kind of expect to? 😆

I had some rando dickhead giving me grief in comments on a couple Assassin's Creed fics, and I've seen people griping in fandom social media spaces about a couple of my works and the fact they (gasp) existed in the tags at all, but mostly people have been decent and kept it to themselves when they don't like me or my writing 💖

9. Do you write smut? If so what kind?

Yes. All of it. All the smut.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

Not really! Never published one to AO3. Closest I've got is that Witcher-Assassins Creed WIP languishing in my google docs, and a silly fun little SGA-Original SW thing on tumblr from probably a couple years ago now.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Pretty sure, yeah. Not to the point of really being able to do anything about it but it kinda sucked. Shit happens.

Yes! A couple of them that I know of 😁

15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

Mmm I have two published WIPs that fall into that category exactly, Ill-advised encounters and The skills of Assassins. They were really fun, I'd have really liked to finish them, annnd I probably never will 😅

16. What are your writing strengths?

I think I'm pretty damn good at pacing a story, whether it's a oneshot or a longer fic, and at getting ~feelings~ across (whether it's horny feelings, smushy soft feelings, angsty feelings, whatever). And I've been told that I'm good at like... developing a setting and characters in a way that flows or unfolds naturally with the story while you read? Or something like that? (they said it better and it made me very happy)

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

That would be not getting things actually started and just keeping the ideas in my head because What If this time I can't make the words do the thing good enough. Especially whenever I have ideas for something potentially longer or more involved, I do tend to kinda shoot myself in the foot by going "eehhhhh that would be a LOT of work though.... I don't want that kind of commitment....... Maybe I'll write down the idea later............"

Also being constantly distracted by shiny new things. But that part's fun 😆

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

I use italics, try to limit it to single words or short phrases, and where possible I make the meaning clear or translated somehow within the fic itself. Last resort, I'll add a little glossary to the start or end notes if it's important to the story.

20. Favourite fic you've ever written?

I genuinely don't have a favourite! There's a few I'm extra proud of myself for accomplishing, but I really like most of what I've ever written for one reason or another.

Or another answer would be, my current favourite changes like every week and is usually one of my recent fics 😂 Right now it's probably The Taste of My Blade; it'll be something else in a month.

so idk if you remember me, but i was the anon who sent you that ask about her roommate. the one that told you about her roommate picking her up at the airport?

well… we’re getting married and i’m pregnant with our first baby ☺️🥰

a lot has happened since that night he picked me up! but to keep the story short: the next morning he knocked on my bedroom door and there was a lot of tears (on my part 😂) involved but we essentially just laid everything out on the table. turns out he’d been in love with me for a year and a half but i had just had a nasty breakup at the time he’d started falling for me so he just didn’t do anything about it, and plus he didn’t want to be a rebound. but it all worked out in the end because i started falling in love with him too. also, isn’t it funny that the mutual friend who introduced us to each other 3 and a half years ago told him offhandedly that he was going to ‘love me’ and look where we are now 😂

so… yeah. then you know what happens after that ☺️

i saw the Hug™ anon hashtag too and i just wanted to say thank you to everyone who was rooting for us! but i decided not to respond because things were still new between me and him a few months back so i apologize for that… but now that i’m engaged to him and i just found out i’m pregnant with our first baby (that we both might or might not have let happen), i decided to share this with you all ☺️ he proposed a week before we found out i was pregnant, so please don’t worry about him proposing to me out of obligation! we have been making plans for our future, and we’ve started looking at houses around the school district area because we plan to move out of our shared apartment when our baby is a bit older. we had a brief moment where we wondered if we were moving too fast (and it caused our first big couple fight and more tears on my part 😂), but our families and friends were like, “you guys are stupid” because apparently we were so obvious to everyone but ourselves before we even got together. it was a bit embarrassing tbh… but yeah. this feels right for us. we’ve been living together for more than 3 years now, i know what he’s like inside and out and vice versa.

i wish i could invite you all to our wedding (which will not be for another 3-4 years at least). maybe we will get married when bts come back as a group again after their enlistment, but for now my fiancé and i have agreed to not put me through unnecessary stress because the next few years will be tough on us with the baby and moving out. when we’re truly settled in our new house and our baby is a bit older, we can focus on planning a wedding!

Currently pretty much exclusively Stranger Things, but I’ve written for several like It (2017), American Vandal (where are my Vandal friends at), etc.

4. What are your top five fics by kudos?

it's his party (and i'll fall if i want to) – Stranger Things, my first steddie fic in the fandom and most kudos’d by a mile thanks to hitting the biggest fandom window.

5. Do you respond to comments?

No… it’s my worst author habit and I’m sorryyyyyy I just get overwhelmed by them all, but I love you all and thank you so much to anyone who has taken the time to say something nice to me about my stuff. I keep them all in a special folder in my inbox.

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

I almost said I don’t have one because this is a happy endings only house and then I remembered that the rest of facts and pearls (both sensitive) only exists in my mind and is still technically a one chaptered ambiguous ending thing so probably that.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Again this is almost always a happy ending only house. So maybe today is a new day to find you just because it’s so long and there’s some angst in the middle before we get to the ending (and also it’s my big bang fic from last year and my pride and joy)

8. Do you get hate on fics?

Knock wood, but no. The worst I’ve gotten is a snarky comment in a bookmark and I think people forget that authors can actually see those.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

On occasion, though it’s rare. (Though there may be some more for Stevie Week if I can get my shit together). Usually it’s oral, because it’s easier to keep track of where everyone’s limbs are at.

10. Do you write crossovers?

Not any that are published. As a baby writer I wrote some SPN/GO self-insert shit that will never ever see the light of day. Now it’s just not really my bag. I’ll occasionally sneak a reference to another piece of media in for my own amusement (see the Justified references that will be appearing in my summer exchange fic) but that’s about as far as I go.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not that I’m aware of

Nothing published, but I’ve had a lot of fun writing a ronance fic back and forth with my beloved @cauldronoflove and it’s definitely something I’d be up for doing with others if anyone is interested!

Okay so I have steddie brainrot so if it’s romantic ships that, but actually it’s Steve&Robin. Some honorable mentions: Buckingham, Ronance, and for brain rots now dormant Sam/Peter (AV) and Newmann

So the only blatantly unfinished WIP I have published is mi media naranja (and other things that need to ripen) which I do hope to one day finish (I have more chapters written that aren’t on AO3 but it’s been so long since I’ve posted I’m embarrassed to put them up). Technically facts and pearls has more to it that could be published that maybe one day I will, but the current ending is functional.

16. What are your writing strengths?

I think I write dialogue well. And I think I manage a pretty good internal monologue for my narrative POV character. Every now and then I’ll pop off with a little detail that implies significant character things.

17. What are your writing weaknesses?

I just can’t describe what a scene looks like, what are rooms and what are the characters doing in them? Idk use your imagination cause for all I know they’re all standing in a big empty room with big white walls.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?

I cannot do it! It’s part of why naranja is indefinitely delayed thanks to the plot I set up! I am monolingual.

19. First fandom you wrote for?

My first published fic (on a platform that isn’t AO3) is from the Mentalist. But I’m sure I have notebooks full of stories that I wrote as a kid for like Sisters Grimm or something.

I’m refusing to pick a favorite child so enjoy a collection of works that I’m proud of.

today is a new day to find you – my most beloved timeloop child. Possibly my magnum opus, a timeloop fic from a non-looper POV, it manages to be repetitive without feeling stagnant. I’m very proud of it!

Am I the Asshole? - it’s an epistolary fic in an atypical format so I’m actually pretty impressed with myself that I managed to get an actual overarching story that makes sense in the format. Also it’s Stobin QPR and that’s my favorite

the bells, the joy (together in darkness) – Stobin hivemind fic, it really does it all and I want everyone in the world to read it and love it

hi anna! i am trying to work on my kindness and being more positive and i know that this time of the year isn’t the easiest for everyone so i decided to start a new thing (don’t expect anything transcendent but i don’t think i’ve seen anything like that around!)

Hello Inuyasha fandom! I’ve created a survey to help with some things I’m working on for the New Year and would love your input! 

Recently, I’ve been working on Inuyasha Bingo Bonanza, along with a piece for Inu-Spiration-4 & Inuyasha-Sugar-and-Spice and I just want to thank everyone who reads/gives feedback/encourages me to keep creating. This past year I’ve made some drastic changes and recently discovered more of myself (cheesy, I know), but I’ve also learned than writing and reading fanfic has really improved how I feel about myself.  I’m a little weird, but totally embracing that now.

At the age of 25 now with definite autism and intense anxiety growing up I can confirm to you that you are not supposed to be friends with everyone who partially relates to you. From spaces online to people you grew up around at school. It might work for some few but if you're struggling there is a high chance you need to step away for your own good and find something else. If people upset you or you just don't feel things are working then just be true to your feelings. It's also okay to admit to yourself that you don't like someone and/or people don't like you. It's super frustrating to know those social aspects of your life are out of your control but you will be better off stopping yourself from focusing on changing things you can't change and just move on when you know there really is nothing you can do. Acquaintances are not your friends. They are just people you know that you interact with but don't feel close enough to. They can be friendly and have similar interests but they have to earn your trust and time as in turn you need to give them yours. It's so important to remember and internet culture as pretty much erased the thought process of it for many and has lead younger people to understand there are only strangers and friends. I can fully attest. Needing to say sorry to someone over blunders is totally okay and just about growing but in the case someone or yourself constantly needs to apologize/look for an apology over hurtful deeds to somehow maintain a life around each other then it's just not ideal and is better off cut loose. Friend is an earned title. Someone who is there to see you smile and laugh in your happiest times and be gentle during the lows. For you to share the same space as them and not have to worry so constantly about upsetting them. To just be yourselves without harm no matter the height of the energy. You don't need many friends you just need to have people you love to be kind with your trust and worth and reflect that love and adoration back to show you care all the same. So if you're going into the new year with a heavy heart over that love I think you owe it to yourself to try at least something new and take a step forward. It'll be okay 💕

Forgive me, dear nonnie, I wasn't sure if you meant El or Cosmic!El but either way, I'd be delighted!

(whoops this got away from me. Guess that's to be expected at this point though, lol)

C!El, the sweet pea, is currently in a food coma on the couch, surrounded by her amazing little family. Her mother made enough food to feed a family of bears, and yet between her, her mother, and her two brothers, no one managed to even touch dessert. Actually, her and Will both got pretty close, but if it hadn't been for the little competition between them who could finish first, they wouldn't have filled up so fast. (Jonathan almost regrets accidently putting the idea in their heads). Everyone is excited, though, because the day after tomorrow they'll be flying down to Hawkins to celebrate with loved ones, and plan on staying through New Years. The process will be brutal given its the holidays, but they've been through worse.

Poor joyce, though... Between Jonathan raving about seeing Nancy, Will and El going on and on about seeing the party again (particularly the Wheelers and Hendersons), she hasn't heard anything in the last week from anyone that wasn't about the upcoming trip. She loves it though, she can't remember seeing any of her three kids so happy and it makes her super happy.

ST!El... *season 4 standing behind me with a knife* ...bah, who cares! I'm not looking at it right now so therefore, it does not exist. Believe it or not, this may be the closest to the happiest she's ever been. (Even if we're counting the very end of the finale) she has her family!! Her full family!! Her dad is alive and within her reach, she's got two wonderfully annoying brothers and an amazing, brave mama bear of a mother. All of whom, would do anything to protect her and know she's loved. No matter what El is going through (which is a lot) she makes it her duty to cherish the good she has in her life now and she's holding on and NOT letting go or taking it for granted. Even in between the actual hell on earth madness, I'm positive her and her little family find a way to sneak in even a tiny tiny little bit of holiday spirit. Idc if it's an unspoiled can of beans, there's a gift right there depending on the state of things. Els got every intention of letting her loved ones know how important they are (and yes, of course this includes Max. I like to think she made a little bracelet or something and it fits around her cast and everything 🥺) and they certainly make time to make sure she knows how much they love her. Abysmal times or not, know this: El is so deeply loved.

So yeah, I guess I don't have a straight answer since it's hard to say for sure where it's going, but that's my main belief. She is so loved by her people and she knows it.
