I hope this isn’t… weird? To say? And I hope I don’t sound like I’m obsessed, but I feel like there’s kinda been a lotta unrelated posts in the klapollo tags lately?

I wanna preface this by saying that they’re my comfort ship- so if I come off assertive or hypersensitive or angry, I don’t mean to be, they just mean a whole lot to me. Neurodivergent fixation, I think you all know the drill

I just feel like I’ve seen a lot of stuff in the tags lately that’s been like. Stuff that’s just BARELY them- so like, a singular tiny mention of them in a post all about narumitsu for example, and then saying “I’ll do an analysis on klapollo next week!” at the end, for me it’s like. I dunno. Tag that post as narumitsu and THEN tag your klapollo analysis post as klapollo! And of course, people can have their own opinions on the ship! You are free to like and dislike what you wish! But I always kinda thought it was rule of thumb to not tag something as a certain ship if you’re talking about how you don’t like that ship.

I REALLY am not trying to be a fanpol or a fancop here- and I promise im not writing this as a “callout” or to be like “omg everyone in these tags is stupid and lame,” I truly love seeing all the different people posting in the tags, as well as reading other’s opinions and takes on the ship! Cuz like I said, the ship matters a whole lot to me, so seeing new content for it daily makes me happy. But I personally feel like the tag has strayed a little ways from the original usage of such.

again, this is probably just me- I’m really fixated on them so I’m probably the only one who notices this lol. In the grand scheme of things, it’s not that big of a deal, but I wanted to bring it up :3

Li'l author spotlight for all a' you'se tonight, bc I've been bingeing a bunch of their works page on AO3 and everything they've ever written is gold. Okay? Okay. Let's give it up for AO3 author ApprenticeOfDoyle:

The main fic I wanna gush about is pressure (pushing down on me), which is more or less a pathos-riddled retelling of the trilogy up until it veers hard into canon divergence--of a distinctly NaruMitsu flavor, of course. By the time the events of AA4 roll up, Phoenix has a much more prepared (and present) support network, which is just so satisfying and wonderful and ugh. Even after that point, however, it follows the outline of the canon cases closely enough that it turns into an almost 'what-if' style of fic, where the only major difference is that the Phoenix, Maya, Pearl, and Miles (and later Trucy) are all one big happy, adorable, inseparable family.

And like, that'd be enough for me already--I LOVE canon retellings, especially ones that are different in just small ways like this. But this fic also just feels so good to READ. I think in my comment on the fic I described it as "crystallized catharsis", and I stand by that. Phoenix CRIES in this fic, and he does it a LOT, and Maya and Miles and everyone else around him all cry, too, and it is AMAZING. If the author's main goal with this fic was to expand on all the moments in the games that made you think "oh wow, that was effed up, I bet the characters are effed up about what just happened", then they SUCCEEDED.

God and don't get me started on how much appreciation this author has for the Feys, or for Phoenix's sibling bond with them, or for all the trauma these characters have experienced to be given some damn breathing room so they can help each other heal...

Guh. Anyway. The fic is great. If you like it when characters cry a lot and hug a lot and talk about their feelings, this is the fic to read.

(And if you'll allow me to gush just a second longer: the first fic in the series covers from right after Dahlia's trial to the disbarment [and, spoilers: Kristoph's early defeat]. Then, there are SEQUELS, one focusing on Trucy and her adoption, and another focusing more on Apollo in this universe's version of AA4. Both are WIPs but I am salivating over both of them waiting for more, they are SO GOOD. HhhhHHHHNNNGH FAMILY!!!!)

And THEN!!!

Not part of the same 'verse as the aforementioned series (though I think it could work as a part of it no problem): a whole damn fic just retelling the events of the first Investigations game...... but if Miles and Phoenix were happily dating. It's essentially just AAI1 but Phoenix is there to freak out and give Miles hugs after all the terrible things happen lmao. It's delightful and also treats all the panic attacks and kidnapping etc with the gravity and emotion that the game failed to deliver, meaning it's an automatic win in my book. Just let them be mushy sappy boyfriends who offer comfort at each other's time of need.

And finally, because even this author's little smutty oneshots are brilliant, here's a short post-JFA get-together fic with very sweet, heartfelt dialogue, and here's a VERY funny comedy about everyone mistaking a bruise on Phoenix's neck for a hickey (and, as the tags say, Miles getting "a little bit Genghis Khan"). Delightful, delightful, delightful.

January 2023 Fic Recap

Hello everyone, each year I try to incorporate something new in my writing process (last year was a tracking excel sheet) to motivate me to write more. This year I’ll be trying to make a recap at the end of the month for the fics I’ve written complete with the title, summary, and some extra little thoughts on it. Since these might end up being long, they’ll be under the cut separated by rating.

Somewhere the Culture's Clever

“Kristoph asked me to marry him.” Phoenix reaches up to put a dried plate into the cabinet. He keeps his tone light, like he’s talking about the mail that came in that day. “About two weeks ago.” Miles doesn’t falter from his spot in front of the sink, sleeves pushed up to wash the dishes. He responds with casual curiosity. “Oh? And what did you say to him?” “‘What’s in it for me?’”

This was a fun little proposal fic that I used to get a lot of banter out of my system, Phoenix is a little shit! I had the idea for that dialogue exchange as an opener for a while so I was happy to finally get the rest of the fic written. You can tell where it just kept extending past what I originally thought the end would be because there were just so many more quips to write they wanted to keep talking. This fic actually did way better than I thought it was going to I wouldn’t be surprised if it stayed my most kudos’d for this year.

As per the endnote: if you didn’t know where the fic title was from, it’s from Paris from the 3am version of the Midnights tracks and the line before this is ‘I want to brainwash you into loving me forever’ which is a Very Feenie-Phoenix sentiment to me but I didn’t want to give the wrong impression of this fic by titling it that

Vocal Exercises

“That’s you. That’s what you sound like.” Phoenix dropped his tone and sighed. “‘Honestly Wright, do you truly expect me to believe this absolute drivel?’" Miles glared at him. “And who is that supposed to be?” “You! It sounds just like you!” “No, it doesn’t.” “You just don’t know what you sound like then.” “I can assure you I have the utmost knowledge of my diction.” “Those are just words. You’re just saying words right now hoping I’ll agree with you. But I won’t, because that sounded exactly like you.” What an idiot. ~~ In which Miles tries to navigate the fact that he is having feelings at work, Phoenix's "hidden talent", and almost breaking the man's nose, all before 1 pm.

A fic I had in my WIPs for over a year (I started it in December 2021) that I left alone for months because I could not figure out the beginning of it. This is another fic I used to just have a lot of back and forth between Narumitsu that is them at their most powerful to me. In the very first version of this idea it was a getting together fic, where all of their awkward interactions would have been a pining version instead of seeing how they are going to fit together as a couple. I think this version is much more fun to work with and people seemed to like the take on the early stage of their relationship (though I’ll admit I was not really thinking of that when I was writing it). I like seeing what people pick up on in my writing that I haven’t paid much attention to as I’m doing it. I will eventually finish chapter two.

"Welcome home." He murmurs. Phoenix looks up at him and smiles. "I should be saying that to you, when did you get back?" "Around three." "You should have told me. I would have come home." "You were in a trial, if I recall correctly." "I could have found someone to cover for me. I missed you." ~~ When Miles gets back from a trip abroad, Phoenix takes the opportunity to ask for something new. He gets exactly what he bargained for, perhaps a little more.

This was a gift for the lovely Samioli, because one of the things that fuels my writing is love for my friends (and also spite but that wasn’t involved here). I did in fact feel out of my element writing this but that’s how you improve. Thank you to all the people who said it was hot, I hope you followed Phoenix’s example.

So, he didn’t make it home the night before. That much he could gather. He also had clothes, if the dulled rub against the sheets was anything to go by. Well… win some, lose some I guess. He was alone, judging from the lack of body heat in any direction next to him. In these conclusions, he was fairly confident he could take whatever came next. It was when he opened his eyes and saw Miles Edgeworth standing by the open curtains that all of that shakily built confidence left him.

 I wrote a total of 61,727 words which is equivalent to a self-help book as per the wise words of Google. Which isn’t bad, but I had been hoping to do much more. Had so many ideas that just didn’t make it or I started but didn’t finish. Don’t get me wrong, I am happy I still wrote something, and that I got the chance to experiment with some new fandoms or events but compare to what I had written last year, I didn’t even make it to the halfway point which would have been around 70k.

There is a lot I want to try in 2023, so let’s see how the new year treats everyone. (Honestly, hopefully much much better than last year or God forbid the year before).

So, to everyone that did one or all of the following on AO3 (Kudo/bookmark/comment) AND/OR on Tumblr (liked/re-blogged/left a reply). I truly thank you once again. Writing is fun and you should try to write more for yourself than for others but somethings it just takes a nice comment to really make your day.

Or he does it because he know how much it annoys people (read: Miles, who won’t admit he likes it) because I am also on the Phoenix ‘little shit’ Wright agenda since day one.

Gregory Edgeworth Week (DILF Week) Day One: Pin-up

Unfortunately this ended up with much less present Gregory and much more Narumitsu than I anticipated. I did think it was funny though. Pushing my dumbass Miles agenda. Happy DILF Week!!

“Hey Edgeworth?” Phoenix called out into the hallway. His gaze was fixated on an enlarged portrait on the wall of the guest room.

“Hmm?” He heard the distant response.

“Why do you have a pin-up of your dad in here?”

Miles walked into the room himself.

“What? Wright, what would you possibly be talking about?”

Phoenix pointed up at the large photo. He was unable to look away.

“The pin-up. Of your dad. The scantily clad gentleman.”

“That’s--”

“Don’t get me wrong, it's very tasteful!” Phoenix rushed to say, turning to Miles while holding his hands up defensively. “I just didn’t expect you to have something like that out so...openly…”

Miles scoffed.

“It is not a pin-up, Wright. It’s a photo taken to symbolize the vulnerability of the law. All defense attorneys get one.”

Phoenix stared at him.

“I...I never did one of these. And I know sure as hell Mia didn’t either...Grossberg? You think Grossberg got these done?”

Miles stared at him for a moment, gears turning on overdrive.

“I...I suppose I never thought…” Miles looked back up at the picture, in a new light. A light that can only be seen once you realize you have been publicly displaying your own father’s pin-up for years. “I’ve shown people this picture. No one ever corrected me on it or complained.”

“Your dad’s hot, Miles. Not much to complain about.”

Miles looked at him, mouth agape. “Why I never-”

“What? Everyone had to be thinking it.”

“That doesn’t matter!” Miles pinched the bridge of his nose. “This is ridiculous.”

Phoenix walked over and clasped Miles’ shoulder.

“Look, it’s fine. It’s nice you have a picture of your dad up. Even if it’s...this…” Phoenix glanced back at the picture. “Again, very tasteful.”

“This is one of the only photos I have of him. I thought it was taken in a professional manner.”

“Oh this was definitely taken professionally.” Phoenix blurted. He heard Miles intake a sharp breath. “Sorry.”

“No, no. It’s fine. It’s not your fault I was led to believe this for years. I think I was even at the photoshoot when these were taken, as young as I was. I didn’t see anything odd about it.”

Phoenix wrapped an arm around him.

“Are you gonna take it down?” he asked.

Miles sighed, “No. No, I have to believe that photos can take on new meanings. Otherwise I won’t be able to sleep at night.”

“Well you won’t be a stranger to that.” Phoenix stopped, “sorry again.”

“This is not a good day for us it seems.”

Phoenix looked over at him, “so…”

“Yes?”

“If these poses symbolize the vulnerability of the justice system and how lawyers need to lay bare before the law...are you gonna get some?”

“What?”

“Well, why didn’t you ever get one done before?”

“I’m not a defense attorney. I suppose I believed it was only an honor for the best.” Miles looked back at the image.

“You know, I took some photography classes in college.”

“Did you now?”

“Yep, part of my general courses for my art major.”

“And this is relevant?”

“I’m saying, I can get you some scantily clad photos on this level.”

“Do you truly believe in its meaning?” Miles tilted his head.

“I truly believe I’d like to see you pose half naked.” Phoenix grinned.

Miles pushed him away.

“Crass.” He started to walk out of the room. Phoenix trailed after him.

“So do you want to do the same pose with one leg on the chair? Or do you want to make it your own?”

“I’m not discussing this with you right now.”

“So, later then?”

Miles groaned loudly. Phoenix closed the door of the pin-up guest room with a grin.
