A short story:

I had to take my harp to school today. I don’t have a dolly to wheel it on, so I carry it sideways by the handles, which makes it look extra bulky and unusual (I guess).

Someone yelled at me from across the street: “WHAT INSTRUMENT IS THAT?”

I didn’t even see who they were, but in a sudden fit of whimsy, I yelled back: “A DRAGON!”

So I guess I play a dragon now.

After this crazy, fun, and techy harp day (looking at pedals and PA systems), it made me think about the progress I’ve made this year. It’s been… Tough, to say the least. But I’ve done a lot of growing, and I think this clip is one of my favourite examples!

Although this is far from perfect (or final tempo 😂), the Magic Fire Music from Wagner’s Ring Cycle was probably one of the biggest challenges from me – this was the best attempt I could get on film! I’ve never ever (even since) done this many pedal changes for a piece, and it was so hard, but so satisfying at the same time. This time last year I wouldn’t have told someone they were crazy if they said I’d be able to do this by now!

Purim costumes! Playing harp and making Hamentachen to celebrate God’s deliverance of his Jewish people through Esther! The book of Esther in the Bible has one of the most profound balances of faith and personal responsibility. We’re probably familiar with the quote, “for such a time as this” but that line comes from a power speech Mordecai gives to his niece-become-queen. “For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”” ‭‭Esther‬ ‭4:14‬ ‭ Mordecai is absolutely confident that Deliverance is God’s plan but still insists that Esther do everything in her power to be part of that deliverance. It’s that perfect balance of total trust and taking responsibility. Thank you to my wonderful friends who introduced me to this celebration.
