persona misogyny is so fucking wild. ignoring literally everything else about the entire rest of the games, every single s.link with a female character is like “entirely for having been born a woman i have had to work twice as hard for a fraction of the benefit. even now, i am stripped of my agency in a position i never wanted in the first place” and/or “i’m put on a pedestal by the people in my life because of my looks. men see me as an object to be conquered, women hate me for ‘stealing’ ‘their’ men. if i’m withdrawn i’m a bitch, if i’m friendly i’m easy. because of this, i’m alone” and/or “because of my personality or hobby or lack of cooking skills, i feel like i’m failing at femininity. if being a woman is something i can fail at, then where does that leave me? i’m scared at the loss of my identity and place in society”

like very consistently they present female characters with complex thoughts towards their place in society as women, femininity as a whole, and facing issues stemming from misogyny, and then the payoff is always “my problems were entirely my own fault. i wasn’t strong enough, i was a coward. but now, i’m gonna work hard to be exactly what society expects me to be (which is what i want to be)! i’m gonna do better at femininity (which is still something tangible i can fail at)! i’m going to try hard at making friends (which was my fault for not doing)! all my problems are solved through personal responsibility (that im totally culpable for), effort (which i previously was not putting in), or you, a man! i am Happy and Satisfied with this outcome, can i be Your woman?”

and like hello? why are we here. what the fuck are we doing. why do we keep doing this every single time. can we not do the constant lukewarm attempts at criticizing misogyny so you can jerk off to your own thoughtfulness, while ultimately reinforcing patriarchal systems and brushing off any deeper misogyny-bred issues as a lack of deference to one’s rightful place in society? like maybe don’t do that? for fucking once? just an idea

Once again wishing Yusuke was given more main plot relevance as the few moments he has are so consistently excellent and subtly devastating. All of the Thieves are hurt and outraged by the way the public turned on them immediately after Okumura’s death - except Yusuke who wasn’t surprised in the slightest and calmly implied he expected this as an inevitability. After all, he knows very well what praise looks like from people who only value you for what you output.

i couldn't tell you why exactly but i enjoy putting haru in a position where she's kind of Extending the same need to repay kindness that the cat king can be surmised to have without realizing she's playing into that circle of gratitude

she's naturally kind already, and with the events of the movie showing her just how powerful and how meaningful even her small actions can be, i do like the idea of her looking at some of the other characters who have helped her and offered her so much guidance, etc. and feeling that there must be something she can do in return for them as well

which is probably why i have a couple stories that only come about bc she sees some old hurt just covered up with a band-aid and wonders if maybe a little New Blood might be the trick to get that process going

i just like the idea of a haru who gets very determined and stubborn as she gets older, but never for the purposes of wounding someone, and not necessarily in a bull-headed or Sassy way, but just that she will see a problem that's not being dealt with and roll up her sleeves to go apply some gentle but Unending pressure lmao

she can be reasoned with of course! sometimes she doesn't understand all the nuances of what she's trying to fix. but sometimes she does manage to bring in a new perspective, i think, for problems that are Ages Old

i love when video games show a unique model in the middle of a crowd way before the character actually becomes involved in the plot. it's like a fun teaser for the viewer, and on repeat playthroughs you get to go "hey that fucker WAS here the whole time!!!!". it's the gaming equivalent of a background animation cell obviously being rendered to move minutes before it does so

#16 Favorite non-canon pairings (m/f) Okay so I saw a few posts about Smellerbee and Longshot and it just. stuck. I feel like they'd make a pretty good team post-war being ✨vigilantes✨, driving out any Fire Nation soldiers who still think they can throw their weight around and be terrible. Can be platonic or romantic, it doesn't matter, they're part of a set and splitting them up Will create Bad Consequences. (They also were done dirty by the comics, like everyone else)

Thinking about Haru and Yuujin led me to dust off this old fanart (which is, coincidentally, almost exactly four years old!) and make some minor tweaks to it. I removed the text and desaturated the background just a touch. There's still something a bit wonky about it that I just can't put my finger on (I think it has to do with the shadows on Haru's face), but it's also one of my personal favorite finished pieces, just because of how much fun I had with it, shading-wise (yes, Yuujin is supposed to look really serious and cool, that’s why Haru’s staring ;D)

Still holding out hope for an Appmon movie, C'MON TOEI!
