your hands shook as you knelt on the floor of your bathroom. you had really thought you were past this. you had an amazing girlfriend, loving friends, and a great life in general.

but I guess life’s a bitch, hm?

you heard a light knock on the door through your sniffles and choked sobs.

“babe? everything alright?”

“I-I’m ok.” despite your best efforts, your voice still broke when you responded to her. the door opened, and you silently cursed yourself for not locking it.

“whoa, hey, what’s going on?” vi’s blue eyes glittered in concern, her brows knit tightly together. your lower lip trembled as you tried your best to keep a fresh wave of tears down.

“I-i don’t know, I don’t k-know-” she knelt done to where you were crouching, cupping your face with her warm, calloused hands. she brushed away the tears that you didn’t even know were falling.

“hey, calm down. take a deep breath for me, baby. ok? in-”

you inhaled deeply with her.

“-out.”

you breathed out shakily. you repeated the action a few times before your tears stopped and your breathing evened out.

“you wanna talk about it?” her voice was soft, her hands still on your face, grounding you.

“I honestly don’t know. everyone at work was pissing me off and I don’t know I just-”

you cut yourself off, closing your eyes as you felt that same snake of desperation coiling around your heart.

“hey, how about I order food for us, hmm?” you opened your eyes, taking in the kind, loving smile she graced you with. you nodded slowly.

“yeah, yeah ok. as long as we don’t put pineapple on the pizza.” she snorted, shaking her head and ruffling up your hair.

“hater.” she teased. you smiled back.

“more like I have taste.”

“horrible taste.”

later that night, you found yourself forgetting about your horrible day and the mental breakdown you had almost endured. laying there in vi’s arms, the smell of cheap, greasy pizza filling the air while you two watched some shitty romcom, you figured that maybe life wasn’t such a bitch.

not when you had her by your side.

here’s the thing. the absolute joy and wonder i feel whenever someone tells me they came across ahb! and are now taking an art history course / majoring in art next year / went to their local art museum for the first time in ages is exponential. when yall send me your favorite artworks and tell me about them or tell me you went to x museum to see x painting mentioned in ahb??? it’s just so so wonderful. because never did i think something i wrote out of love for art and love for art history would lead anyone else to research art or talk about it or seek it out for themselves and that’s so much more than i could ever imagine would come out of a very timid first attempt at creative writing/fandom involvement.

i wrote it out of love and y’all have all reciprocated that love tenfold and ran with it to talk about art and explore it and share it with me and those around you. and it’s just been a very special incredible thing that makes me emosh. :,)

4. actually i have another s1 or well . an overall thing i am not a fan of the decision of removing the spores. i always thought the entire idea of spores was very cool it's not smth you see all that often yk? the characters have to always have their masks with them they can't just waltz into buildings without checking for growths on the walls they have to make sure the air is clean or else they'll just get infected and then the showmakers were just like ok well . let's scrap that COOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOLLLLLLLLLLLLL

i do hope that their decision to do so wasn't just bc they're afraid of making their big name actors wear masks lmao

Theresa is not superstitious. It's easy not to be, in a small boring town like hers, until it isn't anymore. Scott McCall makes first line, Allison Argent blows into town, and suddenly everything is topsy turvy.

There is, first of all, the devastation of watching her crush get a girlfriend. She knows she doesn't have a claim on Scott, obviously, but that's kind of the worst part; even if she'd made a move, it wouldn't have mattered. When she got hit with a lacrosse ball last year during their shared practice, he'd run to help her, and a year later, she still couldn't stop thinking about it; Scott, on the other hand, was always helping someone do something, and probably hadn't thought about it since. She wasn't rooting for the guy to be unhappy, obviously, but pining had been a lot easier when no one else noticed him.

There is also the unfortunate fact that Theresa, generally, seems to be noticing a lot more these days. It's hard to accept that the rash of attacks in her town are really animals when she keeps seeing flashes of men with teeth. It's hard to focus when her thigh itches even though there's no scab there. It's hard to enjoy school dances when she has the deep, deep feeling that something is wrong. It's hard to talk to her friends when none of them are seeing what she's seeing and it's hard to figure out what she knows about what's going on when she has gaps in her memory. She'd read once that brains will sometimes do that to protect you, but she doesn't feel safer.

But it doesn't matter. Men don't have sharp teeth and she doesn't have any marks on her body and superstitions don't mean anything. This will pass, as it always does, and Beacon Hills will be boring again.

If Lydia Martin hadn't almost bled out on the lacrosse field the night of the formal, she might've been able to believe that.
