A lot of people say that when it comes to art, you need 80% dessert and 20% veggies. That's to say that you need to have fun/be creative 80% of the time, and 20% of the time, you need to study.

As someone who struggles with executive dysfunction, I'll add this to the metaphor: season your vegetables.

Studies in art don't have to be boring! Relate what you're doing to your interests. Want to draw fabric? Do 30 minutes of fabric studies, then draw your favorite character in long flowing clothes. Gesture studies? Do 30 minutes of those and then draw a little scene where characters are interacting or a short comic. In these examples, you're learning something and then applying them to creative work. Ideally, this motivates you to study and then reinforces that knowledge through the creative application.

It becomes easier to season your veggies when the subject doesn't matter. When I'm doing value studies from a photo, I choose to paint my favorite animal. When I study color, I reference my favorite artists and apply the studies to my characters. When speed painting, I paint my characters' houses, objects they would have, and their favorite foods.

Sometimes studies are still going to be a little boring (sometimes you genuinely just have to draw something that doesn't relate to you creatively or to your interests to get bettet), but these are just some ideas to gey yourself through them if your struggling to start. It's just like how i hated English class until my professor let me write about artists and write personal essays. Sometimes, the best way to start is to make sure you're going to have a good time.

Addendum: As always, there's no correct path in art. Do what works for you, but if you take yourself seriously as a creative, you should also examine yourself and ask if your process is really helping you work towards your goals or if you need to restructure.

Second addendum: Don't let this prevent you from trying new subjects just because you don't think it'll interest you. I always feel like character art is my favorite thing, but recently, I have learned that I enjoy drawing interiors. Sometimes you learn to enjoy subjects

(Fallen) Angels Round Table Discussion: Fashion

Featuring: A mixed bag of canon and OC angels and some of their fallen brethren.

"So, honest question - who comes up with these outfit designs?"

GABRIEL: Most angels meet with someone from the tailoring guild and they can request what sorts of clothing they'd like.

SERAPHIEL: Clothing is also a popular gift for angels that pass their ascension trials.

"Does hierarchy or rank have anything to do with the types of clothes angels are allowed to wear?"

SIMEON: Not really. It mostly boils down to preference. Certain styles are more practical than others too. For example, most of the warriors choose not to wear robes on a daily basis. I only wear mine for very special occasions.

METATRON: Michael and Lucifer couldn't be more different style-wise and they were both Seraphs.

MICHAEL: I designed a new outfit for Lucifer that was a little bit more...relaxed...but he wouldn't wear it. Asmodeus even helped with it.

LUCIFER: That’s exactly why I refused. You show enough skin for both of us.

"Now that you mention it, is there a practical reason for designing tight clothes with, um, decorative cut-outs?"

RAPHAEL: It helps us stay cool and prevent heat sickness during our hottest season.

HABUHIAH: Loose clothing isn't comfortable to wear underneath armor.

RAPHAEL: I don't think that's much of a concern anymore.

HABUHIAH: You have more faith than I do when it comes to certain demons.

BELIAL: Are you still upset about our little scuffle in the human world? It's been nearly five-thousand years.

URIEL: You mean the pointless war that you started?

BELIAL: It was actually very profitable.

URIEL: You're the worst.

GABRIEL: Shh, darling. Just pretend he's not here.

SERAPHIEL: Right. Well, from a utility point of view, form-fitted clothes usually work best because you still want to be able to move your body freely without any restrictions. Wearing something flimsy like a cloak is a potential disaster too, at least if you're in a fight.

RAPHAEL: Michael learned that the hard way.

URIEL: The younglings were in the garden and got a firsthand demonstration about combat safety so at least something good came from it.

MICHAEL: You set your cloak on fire by accident one time and your friends never let you forget it.

RAPHAEL: That was an accident? I thought you did it on purpose to get out of training that day.

SIMEON: The point is, a lot of those considerations aren't as important as they used to be. Now we simply wear what we like.

AZRA: Are we going to gloss over the other very important reason? That some of us just wanted to look good?

LUCIFER: Riveting input from our resident incubus.

HABUHIAH: What's that gesture Azazel is making with his hand?

SERAPHIEL: I'm not sure, but judging by Lucifer's expression it's probably not nice.

MICHAEL: Their demonic forms are much more impressive than the photos I've seen on Devilgram.

RAPHAEL: Should we try to stop them?

SIMEON: It's more entertaining if we don't.

METATRON: But I don't want anyone to get hurt.

URIEL: Wait, why is Belial fighting now too?

SERAPHIEL: He's upset that his suit got scorched when one of their wayward spells hit him by accident.

GABRIEL: I hope you're pleased with yourself since this was all your idea, Michael. But I have to admit, I expected much worse.

Our unintelligent squint (Ep 1, part 1/?)

Summary: the beginning of the pilot case, Zack chickens out speaking about the new intern.

Character pairings: Zack x reader, Booth x Brennan, Angela x Hodgins

A/N: yay!! I told you I'd get to it! Btw, none of the sayings that don't have anything to do with y/n, or anything that goes to the case obviously don't belong to me.... I just find them necessary for my fic! If you haven't read my prologue, there is going to be a link at the bottom of the chapter. Enjoy!

It was late in the night. Zack and Dr. Brennan were still outside at the crime scene, Brennan looking over the remains, and Zack was shooting pictures. They felt in their hair a warm moist breeze blowing from the pond.

Dr. Brennan started speaking in her usual direct tone, "Remains are wrapped in four milled, flat poly-construction sheeting."

"PVC coated chicken wire," Zack added.

Brennan lifts the tarp, "weighted," She looks over the muddy remains, "That's why the body didn't surface during decomposition. The skeleton is complete but the skull is in fragments."

Booth rushes in to ask, "what can you tell me?"

"Not much," Brennan says, a little disappointed, "She was a young woman, probably between-," she takes a small breath, thinking over her best factual guess,"18 and 22, approximately 5'3, race unknown, delicate features."

"That's all?" Booth said, being sarcastic.

Brennan did a shrugging gesture with her hand. "Tennis player," she said.

"How do you get a pretty tennis player out of that yuck?" Booth sounded a little irritated.

"Epiphyses fusion gives age, pelvic bone shape gives sex…" Zack stated factually.

Brennan took over and said, looking over the spot on the body's shoulder, "Bursitis in the shoulder… Somebody this young, must be an athletic injury."

"when did she die?" Booth said wanting more facts. Also wanting to skip past her reasoning.

"Eeehhh," was the quick response.

"Eeehhh," was the even quicker, mocking response, "what does that even mean," he says in a frustrated manner.

Zack responds defensively toward Booth while simultaneously snapping another photo, "it means wait until our bug and slime guy takes a look," the light shines everywhere for a brief second, secretly flashing Booth in the eye.

"No clothing." Dr. Brennan notices.

"well you know, in my line of work, No clothes usually means a sex crime." Says Booth, acting like he knows the situation

And Dr. Brennan gives more insight, "In my line of work, it could also mean the victim favored natural fibers."

Zack speaks to Booth to demonstrate, making it an unknowing comeback, and walking around trying to get more angles, "your suit, for example, will outlast your bones by decades." Booth clearly couldn't tell, because he doesn't know this "squint," that Zack secretly had something on his mind. Brennan noticed, she's noticed it all that day… She just didn't know how to respond to it, so she focused on her work more intently, pretending not to notice.

"collect silt," Brennan orders to Zack, pushing herself up to her feet, "Three meters radius, to a depth of ten cm."

This time, right after taking another shot of the body, he looks at her anxiously and quickly. Before she gives Booth permission for the forensics team, she has to pause herself mid way, as he approaches closely to her.

"Mr. Addy, is there something that you need to say, because there's work to be done?" Brennan was startlingly frustrated, she clearly wanted things done quick and a hurry.

Zack gets in a whispering position, "you know about the new intern you wanted working beside me?"

"Yes, and I hired one. Miss y/n y/l/n. She starts tomorrow morning. I only did it because she was the only one you full heartedly recommended last year."

"Mm." Zack tried to hold in being squeamish, "I did. But are you completely sure of her qualifications for thi-"

"Are you saying you made a mistake in saying that she was the best interview you had? Because I gave you the assignment of hiring another intern with hopes that you would be the one to find one that matches all the qualifications yourself, it was also to test your true reasoning, and good decision making, for those are the type of people fit to work at the Jeffersonian. If you were being lazy, or unsure, means I was wrong, and you weren't really ready. Is this what you're trying to tell me?" Well, she's not one to beat around the bush.

Zack thought, swallowed the lump in his throat, and replied rather standoffishly, "No, Dr. Brennan. I have no doubt in Ms. y/l/n's intelligence, expertise, capabilities and ambitions. I just hope I was right , and didn't look over her resume or personal background too soon."

"Well, that's rather unlike you Mr. Addy. You need to adjust your self confidence to match your work." She turns and informs Booth that the forensic team can take the Plastic and chicken wire.

"Yes Dr. Brennan." Zack sighs, mainly to himself. Now that he pushed himself into it. He had to fix this. This means he must do his best to see y/n first thing , before anyone else gets the chance to. He has to, before it is made known what he hired into the Jeffersonian…

Sometimes I get random movie scene ideas that don’t even have anything to do with the plots I’ve come up with. Here’s an example of one of those :)

Any critiques or advice is greatly appreciated, since this is my first time scriptwriting haha

EXT. MOTEL ROOM - NIGHT

Detective RIGBY HARPER and Detective HENRY RIMES enter the motel room. RIMES sits in a chair in the corner as HARPER shuts the door behind them and looks around. 

HARPER (Loudly) Miss Langford?

A woman comes out of the bathroom on the far end of the room, wearing promiscuous clothing. She is tying a robe around her, then sees HARPER and RIMES and stops in her tracks. RAMONA LANGFORD (surprised) Oh, hello.  HARPER gives a polite nod, indifferent to her attire.

             HARPER Miss Langford, my name is Detective Rigby Harper, and this here. . .

He gestures towards RIMES as he speaks, who gives a small wave.

             HARPER . . .is my partner for this case, Detective Henry Rimes. We came here to discuss a previous client of yours who came by here earlier tonight.

HARPER moves towards the bed and sits, one leg folded while the other off the edge. He motions for LANGFORD to join him. LANGFORD moves across the room hesitantly and sits across from him. 

             HARPER Now, is this the man who visited you earlier?

He takes out a photo of a man, who we will later come to know as ROBERT STAIRE. LANGFORD shakes her head.

            LANGFORD (Bluntly) Sorry, I don’t disclose anything about my clients.

LANGFORD begins to snake her hand up HARPER’s leg. HARPER glances down, but pays no mind.

              HARPER Miss Langford—

LANGFORD places a finger on his lips, shushing him. After he is quiet, she takes her hand off his lips and resumes running her hand up him.

             LANGFORD Please, call me Ramona.

HARPER is unfazed as he nods. As he speaks, he takes LANGFORD’s hand off of his crotch while maintaining eye contact.

             HARPER Ramona, I’m sorry to impose on your client confidentiality, but we have a warrant out for his arrest. So if you would please tell at least where he went after he visited you, then this will be a lot smoother for the both of us.

LANGFORD huffs when she is denied, and sits more at attention, her hands clasped in her lap.

             LANGFORD (Thoughtfully) Well, he said he was going to meet an old friend at some restaurant. I think it’s called Lucky’s Diner? I don’t know, it’s over in the next city. But he was kind of a weird guy, to be honest. . . He was fine up until he was getting ready to leave, and he kept spouting some bullshit about how “it was all her fault” and “she asked for it”. I don’t know.

HARPER and RIMES exchange glances, and HARPER stands.

               HARPER Well, I think that’s all the information we need. Thank you, Ramona—

LANGFORD stands abruptly and interrupts him.

            LANGFORD Wait!

LANGFORD places a hand on his neck and kisses him. HARPER is close-mouthed and unresponsive, but not repulsed. She sits back on the bed and smiles at HARPER.

            LANGFORD Give me a call if you’re ever back in town, okay?

HARPER nods politely with a smile as RIMES opens the motel door.

              HARPER Sure thing. And thank you again, Ramona.

HARPER and RIMES exit, leaving LANGFORD there on the bed.

And as someone who studies art and has bought a LOT of online courses trying to figure out how industry people can just churn out work like nothing. it feels like a let down every time i find out their big secret. just practice and photo refs. Every. Single. Time.

its how you studying your refs. heres how i do mine

sorry if this is rambly. but ill try my best to at least be clear. BUT THIS is the EXACT way i taught myself how to be quicker.

I do not know if youve taken any art classes but essentially one of the ways to study gesture drawing is by first tracing ur photo ref to get a sense of the flow/proportions of the body. youve probably seen a billion of these tutorials floating around:

So last year around hmmmm june/july? i was NOT looking to get better at my anatomy or gesture. i was actually trying to get better at clothes. but my problem was it took me so long to draw out a figure (which i was fine with cause i liked how my people looked at the time) that i could never really just focus clothing part.

So i told myself look. ur not looking to draw in this style like this forever. so for now SIMPLIFY SIMPLIFY SIMPLIFY!!!! I WANT THE BAREBONES OF A HUMAN HERE TO MAKE A MANIQUIEN FOR CLOTHES OK

but how do i do that....

Im gonna use this piece as an example from my rise and yosuke fashion palooza month. FIRST u see i got all my photo refs together. i like those poses on the right and i want to switch out the clothes for the other ones i picked out. i trace out my poses. kind of like the tutorial up top but since this is about draping i was focused the exact places their waist/arms/legs/etc would bend.

and like the tutorial u turn off the photo ref and do a drawing based off that traced piece.

then i would turn on my refs and add on my clothes

And after a month of just doing that over and over and over. i was surprised to find that figures and poses were so much easier to understand when i would break them down like this. and once u get familiar with them the faster and more confidently you'll draw them.

I and still do this btw. heres my otasune from the last week

i used photo refs for all my sketches. if i cant find anything online to match what i want i just take photos of myself. and some might say well arent u just relying on reference TOO much?

AND AGAIN take it from someone who has spend a lot of money buying classes from their fav artists in the industry. The Secret of how they churn out so much cool work so fast always turns out to be this. practice and photo refs.

Every. Single. Time.(tho this is omitting a lot. im not getting into like they way they stylize their art work. that actually the fastest and funnest thing to do once u have ur base down)

Now PAINTING

The thing is, i dont actually post up all my work on this blog. So theres a ton of stuff you havent seen me do. These are some paintings i did 2 years ago for a class.

I already know how to pick my values and set up lighting. When you see me painting my figures now. i am not focused on learning these basics im actually just honing a technique.

you might see me post readmores with these kinds of wips. I lay in all my colors and lighting with the lasso tool. ALL THE MAJOR DECSIONS ARE DONE HERE

(the little miniature i add on the side basically tells me what the overall feeling is going to be when i blend in the lineart to be cohesive with my colors) ( also if you had any questions on my prepainting process tho. feel free to ask!!!)

and if you compare this wip to my finished piece youll actually find that i dont stray that far from what i've laid in.

everything happening at THIS stage is about feeling out how i want the textures to blend with one another and getting funky with some brush strokes.

6. favorite thing to draw?

When drawing ganqing: hair (always fluffing it up and adding strange triangular streaks to keqing's hair that make zero sense lol), faces, and ganyu's horns. But honestly arms and hands too, because the gestures can express a lot imo. For all the lamenting over anatomy and how strange and hard it is, i think i've improved enough over time to generally just enjoy drawing the whole body of a character.

When drawing creatures: heavily depends on what kinda creature it is, artstyle etc. but generally fur. Like even if i draw dragons, i wanna add some fur. Slugcats are an exception lol, i've drawn them with fur before but i'm a firm believer of smooth, slimy slugcats. Other than that, ears, horns and claws are fun.

GANYU WITH A QILIN TAIL!!!! I'm enjoying all the new art of baby ganyu, but i'm rlly excited abt my "adult ganyu showing keqing her fluffy tail" wip lol. I can tell you i've been lowkey agonizing over having to draw clothes tho 😭😭 But i got over it and it's going okay, so i should be done with it maybe even today. Also what's funny is that ganyu's head in this drawing is a months old doodle i just repurposed for this drawing. I'm glad i got to actually use it for something lol

24. whats a compliment about your art that has always stuck with you?

One time someone said they "love the togetherness of this image" abt my drawing, and that was really nice, like yes!!! I succeeded at putting emotions into this image!!! Also you said "this is like straight out of a scene in my mind tbh" abt the exact same drawing, which i liked a lot too!!! Something abt humans connecting with each other thru art perhaps?

But I also really enjoy whenever people say they like the shapes i draw, or that my art and characters are " so shaped", etc. And character expressions!!

29. do you use a lot of references while drawing?

Yes, usually. Sometimes for simpler doodles i won't have any, or maybe only a few, but a lot of the time my canvas is cluttered with references lol. In-game screenshots, official art, irl photos, 3d model pose screenshots, my own art too. For my latest wip i took photos of my own arms hhhh. Sometimes it also just serves as setting the vibe tho, or general inspo, not necessarily anatomy or some specific thing. Depends on the drawing. (old examples below)

Thank you! But you give me too much credit. I’ve mostly just drawn variations of the two standing in the dark [gestures to img below]. Admittedly, I haven’t thought too deeply about their relationship beyond Klimt’s mental decline (and how that affected the people around him) and their final duel. But if it’s anything, I view them both as impulsive and emotional. I don’t really have a solid opinion on the matter of their marital status. Sorry, I just enjoy seeing guys who are doomed by the narrative be self destructive and tear their lives apart 🤷‍♂️

As for art tips— I don’t know how experienced you are, but regardless of skill level, you should have a good grasp on the fundamentals (eg: values, proportion, perspective, line quality, etc.). Once you have a handle on the basics, drawing from life, doing master copies, photo studies, etc. helps further develop and hone your skills.

I don’t have any good resources explaining things, but search around; there's plenty of free art learning resources online. I’ve heard good things about Proko on youtube. It's also good to look at artists of different styles, mediums, and eras. That way, you can learn from analysing their techniques and you can develop a style of your own.

A small word of advice— if you're still a beginner, don't get too caught up on the details and on complex techniques. Those things will come in due time (or if you want to push yourself, but I don't really recommend force. you should enjoy creating art). Beautifully rendered art with unintentional poor proportions and composition sticks out like a sore thumb (unless you don't mind, then you do you).

Explaining my creative process is tough since most of it just kind of happens, so I’m sorry if this comes out incomprehensible. For me, when it comes to symbolism, it’s basically analysing the character and what situation you want them in and honing in on specific ideas. Let’s use these pieces for example:

Kazuma has an association with snakes because his family crest represents snake eyes. Here, I’m using the snake to symbolise his hatred, which stems from his father's death. On the left, he wields it. He's seemingly calm and under control. The snake is ready to strike. To the right, his hatred spirals and nearly consumes him. It's the demon inside him 🤓

Besides the obvious of what happens in their story, some things you can draw from is how a character presents themselves, perspectives, occupation, hobbies, personal effects, cultural/religious/societal/etc. background, conflicts, era/location, etc. But other than that, symbolism can be incorporated in smaller, subtler ways, like the way someone holds a bottle, how an article of clothing is worn, and the like. Watching movies/tv, reading comics, and other media helps. Pay attention to how the director/author frames and lights things 👍

Drawing Class - Using the Cross Contour technique. 9/26 & 28 /23 (Tuesday & Asynchronous Thursday )

As we meet in person on Tuesday  and there will be a variation of this assignment for in person but students will use this guideline for Asynchronous Thursday.

So far this class has learned various terminology:

Gesture

Blind Contour

The next term you will work with is the Cross Contour.

Working with a home Still Life,look for a variety of  props, about 7-9  and come up with a diverse set of objects.

I will set up the still life in class.

If working from home, find objects from the kitchen that can provide you a variety of shapes as follows:

Rectangles, squares, cylinders, circles , odd shapes, a bowl, glass, coffee mug, bottle, can of soup, cracker box, some fruits that are rounded like an apple, tangerine, orange, banana.

(Stay away from pineapples… )

Add some forks, kitchen spatulas, scissors.

Add a kitchen towel to the mix as well.

Assemble your props in an engaging and interesting manner.

Make sure the negative space between the objects is as interesting as the objects themselves.

Set up objects using all three stages on your platform:

Background.

Middleground.

Foreground.

Start with the tallest object placed in the backgroung and centered in the middle.

Then begin to add in second tallest left and right.

Followed by middleground and finally foreground.

Think of it as a chess or checker board, you need to have objects spaced around your board in an interesting and engaging manner.

Add a kitchen towel to create interest and to work with cloth or textile.

Let the towel create interesting creases and folds.

Look at the photo below how I have set up my props:

Once you have your set up begin doing gesture drawings.

WARM UP 10 mins  

Use the same paper , do at least five gesture drawings.

** Try to use both right and left hand FOR GESTURE DRAWINGS.

Change the paper, new sheet.

This drawing below describes how the Cross-Contour line should be applied to objects. Pay attention to how at times the line is rounded for objects that have a rounded form.

The only time you will use a straight line is if you are depicting a flat surface such as that seen in a box or your platform if its not draped by fabric.

Begin Assignment for Tuesday & Thurs :

Using a new sheet of paper do drawing below:

50 mins     Cross Contour Drawing .

You will draw the Still Life being cautious that you capture the true form of the objects using the contour technique.

Remember to include the horizon line.

Go slowly, pay attention to the true form of objects.

Once you have completed the drawing you will come back and begin the Cross Contour Line.

The cross contour line gives dimension to the objects and gives you the artist, an understanding their formal qualities.

Make sure that you depict all space, negative space and positive shapes.

This means that you will give a sense of dimension to the background and platform as well as the objects themselves.

Another point to note is that,  if two objects are similar and next to each other you need to contrast the direction of the cross contour line from one object to the next.

Remember that the point of this assignment is that first, you become an expert at rendering the true form of any object. This means that you avoid generalizing forms.

Secondly, that you give a true description of the mass and weight of that object by describing the formal qualities of the shape via the cross-contour line.

NOTE:

Notice in my Still Life above, that I treat the tangerines different than the kiwis so on and so forth.

Rounded objects have rounded surfaces, flat objects like boxes have vertical-horizontal lines.

Homework

Work in Newsprint pad.

Find your favorite garment, can be a hoodie or sweater, T-Shirt, shirt or jacket.

Now get a chair and place the garment on the back of the chair loosely creating interesting folds.

Let the garment create natural free flowing folds as you lay it a top the chair.

I want you to pay attention to the weight of fabric through the folds it creates.

Your drawing should show those folds.

Sit at distance from it and draw it  making sure you include the chair in your drawing as well.

You will complete the following:

Three drawings in Newsprint pad .

One drawing per page for a total of  THREE Drawings.

1) First a quick gesture drawing.

2) Contour Drawing

3) Free Hand drawing - any material any style of your choosing.

7. Do they (or would they) pursue the other character’s affection, and if so, how? Do they tell the other character how they feel? Try to earn their admiration? Woo them with romantic gestures? Flirt with them, skillfully or otherwise?

Avitus never would have pursued Macen - he enjoyed the flirtation during the mission where they met, but had Macen not actually asked him out, nothing ever would have come of it. For Macen, he did a quick search and found a photo of Avitus, realized he was attractive, and was at a point where he was feeling pretty lonely and decided it was worth inching back into the dating world. Macen has a pretty good read on Avitus from the beginning, and recognizes his tendency to self-sabotage (arriving late on their first date, wearing clothes that don't fit so he looks messy and not put together, etc), so accommodates for that.

12. How much independence do they prefer in a relationship—do they want to share their lives as much as possible with their partner, or do they prefer to mostly do their own thing and let their partner do their own thing?

They want to share their lives as much as possible! Avitus doesn't quite know how to ask for that early on - it's what he wants but he isn't even able to admit it to himself, because he's so used to being alone and afraid of losing more people he loves, in addition to his self-loathing, but Macen can see this and works through it as best he can with him.

26. They have an argument with their partner—what is it about? Do things stay respectful, or is there some shouting and accusing going on?

Macen isn't the sort to lose his temper or raise his voice, so on his end it's more a charged conversation. Avitus does lose his temper and has yelled, but Macen knows when to step away from an argument to give them both a chance to cool down, so they can come at it with a fresh mindset.

And for Castis and Cecilia!

25. They accidentally hurt or upset their partner. What happened? How do they respond? What do they do to make their partner feel better?

For Castis, it would either be related to his challenging relationship with Garrus (so a heated argument between them, for example), or something coming up that would prevent him from being able to message Cecilia before bed, causing her to worry that something happened to him.

With the former, Castis can be stubborn and resistant to Cecilia's urging that he "meet Garrus where he's at" and not assume their 12-year-old son will become a lawless criminal because he happens to find Spectres fascinating (and is a fan of "those damned Blasto vids").

With the latter, Castis feels terrible and messages her as soon as he's able, with a profuse apology. While he can be obtuse in some ways, he's very aware of her anxiety disorder and the impact it has on her life, and works hard to structure their life together to accommodate her needs. Life sometimes happens - they both know that, but he tries so hard not to cause her more anxiety.

26. They have an argument with their partner—what is it about? Do things stay respectful, or is there some shouting and accusing going on?

Almost all of the time they fight fair - the two of them love a good debate, so when they wind up arguing, they keep it to the conflict at hand and do not bring up past issues between them.

Sometimes there is yelling when things get particularly emotionally charged, though.

Was away at the beginning of the month and then when I got back got really unmotivated. I joined a Discord study check-in chat two weeks ago which helped get me back on track - hoping that my extreme competitiveness will help me at least get through the DAB stuff without giving up. I was really off track for finishing stuff, but I managed to pull it together in the end, and I think I actually managed to finish more of my monthly goals than I have in a really long time!

My drawing skill is kinda all over the place atm, which I'm hoping means it's going to consolidate itself into something better soon xD

h/ux: not enough ribcage space, crop looks like his forearm is just really thin, eyes aren't in perspective (not lined up + eye area is a bit too wide and flat), hand wasn't referenced and it shows

elan: values too close, REALLY BAD HAND, antennae shouldn't be that swivelled, folds don't make any sense

t/ana: tried to do too much of a dynamic pose and made an unnatural twist between upper + lower halves, eyes aren't looking at viewer, arm holding bouquet/shoulder/underarm area is flat and too far off to the side, lighting not consistent + shading on skirt too conservative (should have pushed the back of it way further into shadow to bring out the roundness), sash thing has no texture and is placed really awkwardly because I realised during the colouring phase that the entire skirt was off-centre, value contrast too low (not engaging to look at). HOWEVER I did try to clean up my lines AND shading at the end, and also used a much smaller brush (doubled canvas size to A4 and used a 3px/1px brush) so it looks a lot neater overall

ACTIONABLES: USE PHOTO REFERENCE FOR EXPRESSIONS!!!!! JUST DO IT, do hair studies, decide whether majority of piece is going to be dark or light and base contrast around that, draw out ribcages (+ shoulder bones) for every sketch, use photo/RL reference for EVERY HAND - even doodles, do a separate detail pass the day after 'finishing' something, use photo reference for folds

CPF Topics: Let's Talk about Candy

This line from 88's recent studio share had me raising my eyebrows: "Ps. Xiao Di’s scissorhands are never out of date✌🏻"It seems that 88 is declaring sovereignty over her time-honored hand gesture and this is VERY interesting to a CP brain who has been studying all sides involved in our imaginary couple.

How Knockable Are Gestures and Poses?

On the other side, 30's hand gesture of the thumbs up has been found on a certain actress apparently only from the time of knowing our 30. Okaaaaaay. That is a bit softer candy than saying 30's scissor-hands came from a certain actress only recently from their side.

Now, what would really be soft candy would be if 30 made a similar post declaring sovereignty over the thumb's up gesture - highly doubt it as that would lead to even more speculation on the one hand; on the other hand it would declare himself to be very much connected with 88. I don't think it will happen and again it would cause more harm than good, but if it did, you would hear my happy shriek from Doha to wherever you are lol The gesture itself isn't that soft; however, the WAY the gesture is made can often make it softer, right? If the person does it with a silly smile or some inexplicable signal that no one understands, then the sugar does appear to be more real.

The thumbs up and scissor-hands gesture is quite common around the world for one and it has been used by 30 in the past; more recently, it has been of note that 3088 use each other's signature gestures quite, quite often. In fact, just today during a live event for KS 88 did the thumbs up gesture (Sheep will say this is 1 I know and I respect all candy even if I don't agree). Needless to say, we know 30 has been using the scissor-hands for quite a while as well. This candy is only medium soft in just the sheer amount of repetitions even if there is no way to know for sure they are representing the other party.

I would never begrudge a CP fan doing what CP fans do; however, I do think you cannot just blindly knock on things without understanding the context and where your evidence lies in the Mohs Harness Scale of CP Candy. You cannot act as if everything is soft candy. That is very hard to swallow. Yes, a bunch of hard candy added up over time is definitely more likely to be sugar, but not necessarily because really people don't differ all that much in their gestures, poses, and clothing choices among C-Entertainers in China. It is especially hard to knock on brands where both are sponsors; in the case of either part not endorsing a brand it is still a capital interest and I would personally classify it as hard candy. I would be able to connect nearly every artist in China with each other if we only looked at these superficial things. Even cheering colors are medium at best especially when they have been overused to such an extent that you feel the industrial sugar.

I'll use the perfume sponsored by 30 as an example. In our enclosure, we believe 30 likes 88. We also know 30 is a custodian of the earth and is tied to an organization for climate change. Given that, when 30 is choosing to promote perfumes and he has two choices - a light pink scent with the name Rose in it or Earth which happens to lean towards dark rose/violet and express affection for the planet - which would you choose? If you choose the cheering color of 88 you are using the name of another person; if you choose the cheering color of the other person, you avoid that confusion and BONUS you get to talk about climate change. Personally, I'd choose the perfume with violet notes in it that looks very red and let's me talk about conservation or going outdoors (another company I am spokesperson for and I happen to be going out a lot for my latest drama and film). Therefore, this candy is pretty hard for all sides regardless of what color you see.

Our imaginary couple reminds me of the time I met my future hubby - that is what I personally am "chasing" and "chewing" - love, passion, excitement - isn't that what makes drama lovers feel alive when the couple inside the drama get together finally? It is exhilarating and freeing to find that love. I know. That's why 3088 is really yyds for me; I see that potential and the idea of it being wasted because of something as simple as 7 years age gap is painful to think about. Am I being irrational, yeah probably, but sometimes you just have to embrace something and this happens to be helping my Mandarin. This is after all my main focus, to find a way to learn through my passion for drama ;-)

It is best not to use names or tag real people in CP posts. I consider myself a supporter of the two and try to respect them and keep the enclosure as much as possible.

PS. This was a much, much longer post. Perhaps it is the best thing as it went into detail over other people's candy and Bird Egg perspective, not necessarily that one is better about 30's recent Dali vlog. It's just here is one perspective, this is how I see your general perspective and given all this historical context, do you still consider this to be something of note. Note: This post is open to all CPF's if no names are used as it is more of a general discussion about what constitutes hard or soft candy. I will not declare you wrong if you give me the same courtesy; we are all talking about a fantasy couple at the end of the day.

Oooh, I had to think about this, since most of the instances where I'm conscious of drawing specific articles of clothing, it's usually when I'm looking something up specifically because it's hard and I'm complaining a lot in my head. But when I consider this, I do very much enjoy drawing shirts, and some kind of top layer (jacket, cardigan, etc.). I think this is largely because they have necklines and collars! I like drawing faces and necks, and the necklines and collars of shirts/jackets/tops frame them and add character and interest and give so many different vibes even when it's just a floating head/portrait type doodle, and can be fun and sexy! Here are some examples (excuse to draw my noodle husband):
