Flufftober Day 22: “have you heard?”

After the incident with the gargantuan wolf, the whole school seemed to go crazy with gossip. Between the confirmation from Asterope that Elvira apparently could do magic, and the abrupt change in the two girls’ relationship…. People were losing their minds over rumor and conjecture.

“Did you hear?” one student asked another, as they sat in the courtyard. “Asterope and Elvira are friends now.”

“What? I mean yeah, I heard it. But there’s no way. It’s just a rumor.”

“No, I’m telling you, I’ve seen them,” another student chimed in. “They’re damn near inseparable now. It’s weird.”

“They hated each other a week ago. Asterope snitched on her in front of her mom. And Elvira doesn’t like anyone. How did this happen.”

“Well it’s because Elvira saved her from that wolf, right?”

“Yeah, I still don’t know if I believe that. I mean no one saw it. For all we know, Elvira set the wolf on her in the first place.”

“Don’t be silly. The least believable part of that story is Elvira casting a spell. Which she would have had to do to summon the wolf, too. Your argument has no real weight.”

“Oh, there’s definitely something fishy about that. Elvira invented a whole new spell? And used it to get rid of a gargantuan wolf? I don’t think so. Even ignoring the fact that making new magic is impossible, girl hasn’t cast a single charm all year.”

“Well, she must have done something. I don’t see any other way they’d be all buddy-buddy all of a sudden.”

“Oh! Speaking of, have you heard Asterope dropped the request to move dorms?”

Several feet above the conversation, the two girls in question were sequestered on a small balcony, listening in with amusement.

“Yes, actually. I have heard,” Elvira joked, and Asterope had to stifle a laugh. The conversation eventually moved on, but the girls stayed on the balcony, finishing up their lunches until it was time to go back to class.

“Have you heard?” 

Spoiler: This is an excerpt from Card of Heart

Being back on Coruscant without feeling Sidious constantly is jarring. He’s really gone, and it feels unreal. (It was his duty, so why does he feel so guilty?) He did turn the Empire over to Padme, and Obi-Wan is here too, so that’s something.

“I’m glad that you’re back… Anakin,” Lux greets.

It’s also nice to be called his real name again, the name his mother gave him instead of the one his master did. “We’re free now,” Anakin replies. He doesn’t underestimate how much Lux has been looking forwards to this. He can sense it. He understands it, too, because he was there with Padme. And he can certainly understand why someone would… want Ahsoka. She’s brilliant, she’s determined, she’s fearless. “If – if you and Ahsoka want to… make it real, I will support you,” he says solemnly.

He looks briefly surprised, then smiles. “Thank you,” Lux says, “I don’t know if she’s ready, but I…”

“It’s your choices to make. I’ll support you, either way.” And it is – this is going to be Ahsoka’s choice, and he would like to see her happy, even if it feels like she’s too young to take such a step. She always will, though, but more than that he doesn’t know if she’s ready for a step that drastic with everything they went through because of Sidious.

“I need to think about it,” Lux says, giving him a small smile, “And I will… talk to her about it.”

Anakin nods. “Whenever you’re ready.”

“I should thank you,” Lux adds after a pause, “You and Ahsoka helped save… everything. It’s something the entire Senate never could have done.”

“We’re only doing what we should have long ago.” What we should have done as Jedi.

“Still,” Lux says, “Ahsoka didn’t know if… you’d come back, so I know it must have been… hard.”

One of the hardest things he’s ever had to do, not that he’ll say so. “Sidious was… powerful,” he concedes.

“I’m just glad you’re alright.” He hesitates a moment. “Have you heard what the Senate is saying about it?”

“Padme believed it safer if the details of it did not become public,” Anakin replies.

“Yeah,” Lux agrees, “They want an investigation, but there’s some people who are just… happy he’s gone. The Empire could have helped, but never with him ruling.”

It makes him feel a little better to hear, and for once, Anakin has the feeling that things may finally get better.

He’s confident they will, not that most of his family is back together again.

sometimes I randomly think about the time a girl posted in this girls only Facebook group I’m in telling everyone how she broke up with her boyfriend and he lied saying that he lost the spare key she gave him, only to then break into her apartment when she wasn’t home and steal the cat they’d adopted while they were together, but then he denied having done this and she didn’t really have proof that he took the cat since he wouldn’t let her come into his place and look for it. And then another girl saw this post and knew her ex-boyfriend, and she was like “girl. I used to hook up with your mans back in xxxx and I still have his number. If you want, I’ll hit him up and get him to invite me back to his place and see if your cat’s there.” And the OP was like “bet.”

So this woman hit up homie dog, asked him out for drinks, went home with him, slept with him, and then woke up in the middle of the night and TOOK THE CAT. Like she had only said that she would confirm if the cat was there but then she took it upon herself to steal this woman’s cat back. Like she full on Trojan horsed this man and then hit up homegirl like “I got the goods. Where you wanna meet.” And then the two of them posted a photo of them together with the cat to the group.

And I just think women supporting women is so beautiful.

every time a new SA allegation of a favored celeb arises, i'm reminded of the absolutely soul-crushing experience of the depp/heard trial in which i learned that dozens of ppl i loved + respected + trusted were also willing to engage in the basest form of misogyny if the woman Seemed Crazy Enough. there was a horrifying 2ish weeks on this website + much longer irl where i genuinely felt unsafe voicing my discomfort as i relived something eerily reminiscent of the aftermath of my own assaults playing out on screen, commented on by true crime youtubers like it was a red sox game.

it happens time + time again with every new allegation + it's truly the most agonizing + exhausting part of being a survivor. i am begging you all to consider that survivors are watching you engage with this stuff like theater + it erodes our trust in all of you + compounds our grief.
