Dear Hyein,

The writings that I share with you—the writings that I share with the whole world—are always lyrics and metaphors, a poor attempt to hide my true feelings. This time, I’ll try to be straightforward.

The first time I went to Incheon Airport and actually left South Korea, I wasn’t excited. All of the Remedy were– something like their hard work finally taking them places, but I remember texting you before the flight and telling you that that was my first time flying. You told me not to be scared, because I’d be back home before I knew it.

In chaos theory, there is something called the butterfly effect, which is the sensitive dependence on initial conditions in which a small change in one state (the flutter of a butterfly) can result in large differences in that later state (a storm, for example). And as I can’t much tell what flutter created that storm, I can tell that it wasn’t anyone’s first desire. Not yours, nor mine.

That is the simple flutter of a butterfly that became our earthquake.

I wonder where we’d be if I never took the flight, and if my own stupid fears got the best of me. It is not plausible, I know. It is just my mind wandering around what-ifs, I know. But I also know that you think about these things too. Would we still love each other the same way we did if we didn’t get to talk to each other through the phone? Would our relationship be the same if we were just different?

This is not the first letter I find myself writing to you in this sentiment. Despite not hearing from you directly, Yusin still talks to me about you. I think she treats our conversations as reminders. You are still kind. You are still miserably beautiful. She tells me that you have troubles, too, and I wish you could tell me about them. I wish that it is nothing that is too harsh on you, but whatever it is, I know you can get through it. If these troubles are ones of my own doing, then I’d really wish you’d tell me. I find myself forced to say that for me to claim I haven’t been the same when I was away from you is for me to be selfish—or rather be brazen with my selfishness—in wanting to keep you in my life.

If the troubles are things of your own concern that you don’t want to share, I’ll leave it to be just that. I’ll leave you alone too, with great difficulty. When I get back from America this time, we can talk about everything. Or not at all.

I want to be your comfort zone again.

I feel like labeling him as an antisemite is a bit extreme. I've been listening to his music and following him on social media for over a year now, so when these things came out, I was shocked because clearly his behavior currently does not align with those statements. What he said was horrible. And I'm not denying that. I'm just saying a lot of people made antisemitic "jokes" in 2016 (I heard them ALL the time), which doesn't make them okay, but we have to understand, it doesn't necessarily make those individuals antisemitic. I'm Jewish, so I'm still in the process of forgiving him, but I felt as though his apologies were genuine and I would like to give him the benefit of the doubt. ((Just my two cents, I know a lot of other Jewish fans have stopped supporting him, which is entirely valid))
