Arano Royal Guard

Good old House Arano from the Battletech videogame by HBS. Go play it right now if you haven't yet, it's a masterpiece turn-based strategy game even if you're not specifically a BT fan.

These minis came from the Alpha Strike box. I'd already done up the IS assault mechs in blue for the "Kestrel's Lament" post so I wanted to do the remaining scout lance in red for contrast.

Extra focus on the bases here. Blue team had rivers/marsh beneath so red gets lava rocks and magma.

It's some rubble flocking painted over with Night Scales metallic black. THIS is how it's supposed to look! Glitters of blues/greens/whites in with the black. Fittingly makes it look like magnetite here. The glitters barely showed at all on the Black Marauder. Maybe because that was painted over a black basecoat? Here it went on raw over un-primed brown gravel and turned out great.

Next I painted white in the gaps, then filled that in with water medium mixed with orange ink.

One more lineup from down low, like they're coming over a ridge. It's easy to forget what mechs might look like coming head-on when we're always looking down on the minis from above.

Also screw whoever made the Wraith's short designation "TR#". I guess "WTH" wouldn't go over well haha. But TR? For what, Troll?

WIPs here. Steps taken: -Platemail silver primer -Blood Red speedpaint -Gold/Night Scales highlights -Dark Tone wash (Only necessary over the non-speedpaints) -Blue, then watered-down white in jumpjets -Matte white, then inks on cockpits and lasers -Glued base flocking then prepared as mentioned above -Gloss varnish (extra heavy on cockpits/lasers)

Next for the remaining clan star, they're primed in black, I figure the classic bad guys of Smoke Jaguar should be a good opponent.

Mechwarrior 3 was my introduction to the franchise. "Die, Clanner!"

Viv’s Oddly cultish fandom (the Taylor swift effect)

you’re probably thinking to yourself “wtf is the Taylor swift effect?” (Which I definitely did not make up)

basically means a weird obsessive and parasocial relationship with the fans and fandom (Another one that comes to mind is BTS) and from all the internet that I’ve been in the HH and HB fandom was the weirdest one I’ve ever come across

I remember I use to be an avid viv supporter, mainly cause I loved HH and HB and the fandom wasn’t as bad as it was back then, but now it feels like the Taylor swift fandom , excuses every action and harasses anybody who questions her , and again that’s Vivs fault her refusal to take criticism and take responsibility

The hate to people like lavendertowne and Idolmantise all because they did some redesigns, some people started to give THREATS TO THEM , just cause they did harmless redesigns

Funnily enough even though HH and HB are mainly lgbtq shows the weirdly homophobia side of the fandom is WILD I’ve seen people call others gay slurs and misgendering just cause they disagreed with them AND the active rape and sa excuses for valentino for crying out loud

and yknow what’s worse? viv talks nothing about it, she never told her fans “hey what you guys are doing is fucked up” and yknow what's even worse? SOMEBODY TOOK THEY’RE OWN LIFE BECAUSE OF A SHIP,GENUINELY THE FANDOM WAS THAT TOXIC

why is this so cute! whether this is true or not, it’s the type of clowning that i like. i was actually a bit confused on what’s going on lol. so someone pointed out what they think an lrlg conversation was talking about. we know that lrlg convos are generally a hit or miss. it’s a free for all on how to interpret it, unless there’s some obvious clue that tells us when it happened & what’s it about.

the lrlg convo was about xz telling wyb something like dolls are okay, and just hang it on yourself. wyb then asks why xz won’t do the same too.. there’s some talk and in the end, xz agreed and said "Okay, okay, I'll tie one for you"

so what doll? some are saying it could be this (p1) which is similar to what wyb did before in ttxs (p2).

why? fans digged up this project from before by xz and it’s of the same material. so if he knows how to do that, then he can make these cute little “dolls” that you can hang.

this kind of cpn is the same with the one that said wyb is knitting, and lo and behold, we see in HB bts that there might be some truth to it. i’m thinking about them doing things together. picking up new hobbies to try even if it’s not exactly the other person’s thing. them doing arts & crafts together lol. why. so cute 🥹🥹🥹🥹

HH/HB lgbtqia+rep reminds me of dream daddy. Something that was made to exploit and fetishize gay men. I remember people thought it was a joke game when no it wanted to be taken seriously. IIRC people who worked on the game came out and said there was rampant homophobia bts and it reminded me of the transphobia bts of SH and viv There’s a livestream of viv and crew doing a draw pile talking about the lgbtqia+ rep and they got antagonistic and aggressive when someone asked why there was so many gay characters? I get after years of being attacked for just being lgbtqia+ can cause people to get defensive and go to flight or fight but they just started outright bullying the person that asked the question.

Was there really? That's a shame, I liked that game.

No surprise that Viv and crew got antagonistic and aggressive over a question. When don't they?

jungwon always knew you loved songwriting, of course he’d know — you were his senior, long-time crush and sister of his own idol, jungkook of bts. but when everyone is convinced you’re writing love songs about him, how on earth is he going to react?

the boy was just chasing his friend (like normal) and all of a sudden, his shoulder collided harshly with another’s.

he feels a gloss’s wand graze against his own lips and chin as they both fall. his groans as he wipes the sticky product off his jaw and turns his head to see the perpetrator, only to be met with your furrowed eyebrows and annoyed eyes looking at the ground. gasping immediately, he widens his eyes. “I’m so sorry! I didn’t know you were there.”

you glance at him but look back down, trying to pull yourself together as you fix the hair that had caught on your gloss. “It’s fine..” his face turns red from embarrassment, you were probably going to kill him about now.

he extends a hand to help you up and you take it blindly. searching for any wounds or possible bruises, his expression turns worried — but you pout at the fact that your lip gloss was now ruined. the wand basking in the dirt of the floor while the bottle container had a tiny crack on it.

“..here.” jungwon passed you the wand as he pursed his lips and you awkwardly took it. “Thanks..” seeing how dirty the wand had gotten, you groan and curse the company for making the gloss so sticky.

“Sorry.” the words coming out of your mouths at the same time made you chuckle, while his eyes just widened more. awkwardly laughing as well, he held his hands in front of him and froze.

Standing in silence for a while, you purse your lips and breathe out. “Alright, I have to go.. bye.” You give a half-smile and leave immediately, leaving him with his mouth open, trying to say bye as well but his voice betrayed him.

1. She's rarely ever spent any of the money she earned in her decades as a mercenary, and invested much of what she had earned. So she's been earning interest on those investments for over 120 years...

2. Her talons (on both her hands and feet) count as Carbon-Fiber Reinforced Fingernails (in AToW rules), but with higher damage. She has killed people with them.

3. Her traditional sidearm was, for years, a Clan ER Laser Pistol, though it was lost in 3045. She also carried a Gauss SMG for years after the invasion, which she keeps in her 'Mech ejection seat as a bailout weapon. She also received a JàrnFòlk-modified Sternsnacht Claymore Heavy Pistol from Savannah Caruso when she joined the Fusiliers, which she uses as her primary sidearm. But her most prized possession is a Clan Vibrosword, which was created using the blade of the sword granted to Elizabeth Hazen by Turkina. This last was a personal gift from Khan Stephanie Chistu for Hazen's 162nd birthday, on which date she was granted her new orders to lead the new Royal Black Watch.

4. She resides just outside Unity City on Terra, in an estate built with a small amount of her mercenary money.

5. She has piloted over 279 different types/variants of 'Mech over her career, most with the SLDF Royal Test Pilot School after the Star League was reestablished, making her the current record holder for most BattleMechs piloted in human history.

6. Melissa identifies as female (she/her), and is firmly pansexual. She is a shameless flirty old bird (giant semi-repressed MILF energy) and a big romantic at heart (OOC: I would ask that you ask permission if you want an OC to initate flirting with her; I will do the same in the other direction. Just makes sure we're on the same page.)

7. The universe she inhabits is slightly different from "canon" BT. Key elements include the Aurigan Coalition and certain other more fun small nations surviving into the ilClan era, the entire concept of the Totem Warrior project, taking some parts of the Interstellar Players book series as Canon (namely the hyperspace wackiness and the entire section on the Belters), and Tetatae being real and known (not to anyone other than ComStar and the Explorer Corps, though by the ilClan era the Combine have begun to notice odd signals from just outside their space...). The events of the HBS Battletech game occurred much as they do in the game, though the Restoration war took around 5 years. The events of Mechassault 1 and 2 occured during the Jihad, with the variant 'Mech designs being canon.
