“Gentlemen,” declares Azul, propping his elbows on his desk, “we may have a problem.”
Jade tilts his head. “Oh? Whatever could it be?”
“Sounds drastic,” drawls Floyd, not meaning it at all.
Azul huffs. “You can make that judgment for yourself.” He gestures with a flourish of his hand. “Chrysos, if you would provide us with your report.”
“Right.” Chrysos softly clears his throat. “First, the perpetrator—Darren Ursus, a bear beastman from Savanaclaw, class 1-D number 2. A member of the Spelldrive Club. Normally, once Crewel’s class lets out, he goes straight to leave—however, recently he has been hanging around until the absolute last possible minute; additionally, I have noticed him actively trying to encounter the TA when he believes no one is looking. He seems to be attempting to impress Wei.”
His composed look cracks with a barely-hidden grimace.
“...Yesterday, I teamed up with Hunt to temporarily leave my club activities and observe Ursus. It appears that this matter is starting to reach a head; Wei had been invited to sit on Spelldrive Club practice that day.”
By this point, Jade is staring at him with unabashed interest and Floyd has sat up as rigidly as a pole.
“Most curious indeed,” Jade murmurs, despite sounding like he already knew.
Azul closes his eyes, muttering something under his breath. “Quite.”
Floyd makes a face. “So this guy’s still at his whole obviously showing off to Yu. Isn’t that already worthy of a squeeze? ‘Cause his stuff is not gonna be reciprocated. Like, at all.”
Chrysos nods solemnly in silent agreement.
“Aren’t you a bit biased, Floyd?” Azul wonders. “After all, you did give Yu that scale from your earring recently…”
“That’s exactly why,” grumbles Floyd. “Yu hasn’t stopped wearing it since. Y’gotta be some kind of idiot to not notice that.”
“Floyd has a point,” Jade says, pressing a hand to his chest. “Additionally, I have witnessed Yu expressing no interest if not outright discomfort at advances from others. It is easy to assume this instance would be the same. Therefore…”
“...for everyone’s peace of mind, we should do something about it,” finishes Chrysos, earning himself a nod of approval from Jade.
Azul hums to himself, thinking. “It also just occurred to me that this Darren figure asked a favor of me recently and has yet to pay up… In that case, we should—as they say—’kill two birds with one stone.’”
“So we’re all down?” asks Floyd, tapping his lanky fingers against the back of the couch.
“Naturally.” Azul waves a hand. “Jade, Floyd, Chrysos—go ahead and do whatever you’d like with Mr. Ursus. Just make sure to keep it ‘discreet,’ as usual.”
Twin moray grins and a closed smirk flash back at him.
…
The next day, Chrysos finds them chatting together after school outside the alchemy lab. Darren is leaning against a wall with his bulky arms crossed, looking down at Yu, a scene right out of some kind of visual novel.
“...so, anyway, I was thinking. D’you wanna stop by Savanaclaw? There are some questions on today’s homework I need help with.”
Yu does a poor job of hiding his discomfort. “Oh, uh… I think it’d be better if you asked Professor Crewel for help.”
“Yeah, but—”
“Yuhua. If I could speak with you for a moment?”
Yu and Darren both look over at the sound of Chrysos’ voice. The relief in Yu’s expression and posture is palpable.
“Of course,” he says, immediately rushing forward to leave the situation before hesitating. He turns around to look back at Darren. “Um, sorry. We can talk about this later?”
Darren looks considerably miffed. “Y…Yeah, sure,” he forces out.
“Great! Thanks.”
The only time Chrysos has personally seen Yu flee any faster is in the middle of a crisis.
They turn their backs on Darren and start walking away. Chrysos doesn’t have to look to know that Jade and Floyd have taken their cue.
“So, what did you want to talk with me about?” asks Yu.
He isn’t dropping his mask, so Chrysos eases into it. “That student,” he states simply.
“What about him?” Another careful dodge.
Everything, Chrysos wants to say, but settles for, “He’s been bothering you, hasn’t he.”
Finally, Yu seems to open up a bit. “Well, I don’t want to say that, but…”
It’s a bit of a pointless argument when Chrysos already overheard Yu angrily ranting to Davis the other day. Especially when he knows Yu was purposely making sure he was eavesdropping.
“It’s too obvious. You should tell him you’re being courted,” Chrysos recommends.
“I’m kind of too scared to say that to his face,” Yu mutters. His expression brightens all of a sudden, though. “Good thing he let slip pretty early on that he’s afraid of you guys. Work smarter, not harder, right?”
At that exact moment, a low, nervous growl comes from behind them. They both look over their shoulders to see the Leech twins towering over Darren.
Jade clasps his hands together, mentioning something about debts, while Floyd laughs gleefully.
Chrysos allows himself a smile. “Indeed. I believe this could be considered a win-win situation.”
...
(BONUS:
Davis is lounging by the waterfall with a book when Darren comes trudging in. They’ve had enough small interactions to be only vaguely hostile acquaintances at this point. But, granted, Davis has also heard a lot about this guy.
“What happened?” he asks, because it’s technically an upperclassman’s duty to check on the freshmen.
A deep, dissatisfied rumble comes from Darren’s chest. “Don’t ask,” he says through a clenched jaw, storming off to his room.
Ruggie whistles from his spot nearby. “Sounds like trouble in paradise.”
“If what I’ve heard means anything, it’s not much of a paradise,” replies Davis dryly.
“True.” Ruggie snickers. “He’ll get over it.”
Davis raises his eyebrows and turns to look in the direction Darren left. He thinks about Yu, his choice of friends, and the weird air of excitement around the twins earlier that day. “Yeah. Not that he has much of a choice.”)

nah but like
they're "seiros lapdogs" because they're fighting back against the people who attacked them completely unprovoked??? also because it so happens that thales is at garreg mach so they have to go there to reclaim the area to defeat him???
i just hate this because it's just perpetuating things about faerghus and its people that just aren't true. it frames it like they jumped into the war willingly for the church and that they're only here for the church. like nah buddy, it's not faerghus' fault you're out here fighting to protect thales and ludwig.
it also is batshit to me how he and leopold are fighting to stop faerghus from advancing but like... they know what's happening to the empire and that edelgard isn't even calling the shots anymore, yet they still stupidly fight for the very person who is literally razing their country and burning their villages. they know the empire is in shambles and that the kingdom isn't targeting them and is specifically aiming for gm to get it back from who? thales; who, mind, at this point is in his real form and not posing as arundel anymore. everything is laid out plainly, but they still act like faerghus is the bad guy.
but yeah, okay. faerghus BaD for defending themselves, fighting back, finding out who is behind all the puppeteering and heading to take him out. sure, that makes them seiros lapdogs. like what are you, an agarthan mouthpiece??? may as well be like yeah you go retreat and leave you agarthan lapdog. if they don't realize it's Someone Else in charge of course, then ludwig lapdog works fine too.
and it sucks because other than this shit, i like waldemar just fine as a character. it's just like, it feels like they forced someone to have to stick in that final faerghus BaD insult before the grand finale so they just randomly picked someone to remind us that faerghus is Always Wrong as long as they continue to fight back and prevent being attacked in the future.
waldemar here is just basically ag caspar. fighting and risking his life for thales, who is destroying the empire and basically holding the emperor hostage. if the writing here had any decent plot points, they would've all stopped and have been like hey wait, shouldn't we be fighting to get our emperor back? why are we stopping these guys from killing the people who are destroying this country?
and like, they literally went from siding with ludwig during the insurrection to siding with edelgard in this timeline to... jumping immediately back to ludwig as soon as he was at the top of the food chain (thales notwithstanding). as soon as the person in charge changes, they jump ship immediately; then of course get mad that the people they attacked are coming after them... and fighting them as they defend the very people who are letting adrestia become a literal, physical ruin.
it really just tells me that these people don't care about adrestia itself, but status, power and wealth. they don't care about the country itself as long as they're doing well. that's like, the only thing i can get from still fighting with/for ludwig/thales. the fact that they just fight for ludwig again as soon as edelgard is out of commission is also pretty gross to me. they have no loyalty at all.
and it's like, i want to like waldermar and leopold, but they come across as just selfish, entitled and only there for their own asses to be covered. and i get that - that is a realistic take on politicians, but the fact that the game regularly loops back around to faerghus BaD despite that and despite portraying these people as opportunistically selfish is like... what are they even trying to write??

A silly hc because I love this scene with seth and summer sm
Jason knows that the roof of Nico's cabin is damaged and he keeps saying he'll fix it but every time they are in Nico's cabin and he sees the sunlight entering through that hole and illuminating the almost total darkness of the dungeon that is Nico's cabin. But they always end up getting too distracted in each other's presence and Jason ends up forgetting
So one day there's a storm in CHB and Nico was out running some errands for Hades and the door is locked, and Jason knows it's raining inside. So since he's not afraid of lightning cuz, please, he's the son of Jupiter, but also without an umbrella or raincoat cuz he usually likes to get wet, Jason ends up picking the Spiderman mask he wore last halloween (it was his year choosing the costumes that he and Nico always wore matching >>very platonic<< and jason had chosen spiderman and deadpool) to protect his eyes so he would be able to see what he was doing. So he flies there with some materials but while he's still fixing the roof he slips and falls (very much likd the guy who passes out every two chapters), but the hem of his pants catches on the ceiling gutter and he's left hanging upside down unable to reach for his ankle and thinking that it's too short a fall for him to be able to control the winds before falling if the fabric gives way if he tries to reach it, but high enough to hurt his head AGAIN if he falls. And the rain doesn't stop and Jason calls to see if anyone hears but everyone is in their cabins protected from the storm. Then he sees through the window someone turn on the light in Nico's cabin and it has to be him, so Jason starts calling Nico's name. Nico goes outside and is stunned at first when he sees the scene.
"Jason, what the fuck are you doing?!"
"Oh thank gods you're back. I was trying to fix your roof but I fell and--"
"Did you come to fix my roof in this rain?" Nico goes to Jason to try to see what he can do to help.
"Yeah, you weren't home so it would rain a lot inside and ruin your stuff and I thought--"
Nico looks up and down at Jason hanging there in the middle of that storm. "Did you come here in this rain to fix my roof because I wasn't home and the water would ruin my stuff?"
Jason frowns a little under the mask. "Hm, that's exactly what I said. Anyway, help me out here please. We have to go inside to stop the water--"
But Nico starts to smile, unable to contain it. "And the Spider-Man mask was for...?"
Jason is only now realizing the icing on the cake of his embarrasseing state. "It was to protect my eyes from the water while I was working."
Nico looks at him for a second longer, taking in how stupidly adorable this is- which pretty much sums up Jason as a whole. So then Nico can't hold back the laugh that escapes him.
Jason blushes like never before, feeling pretty stupid right now. "Can you help me here? I can't--"
Nico sighs, stopping laughing, and leans closer. "Gods, you are my favorite person in the whole world, Jason Grace."
And Nico lifts Jason's mask a little, not thinking about how this is a moment he's waited and feared so much for so long, because even though he's been on the verge of this decision many times- never before has Nico been so sure he needed to kiss Jason before the moment passed and his insecurities about it returned.
And when Nico kisses Jason, the storm across Camp Half-Blood becomes clear with lightning exploding in the sky.
