Jim Boswell, President & CEO of OnPoint Healthcare – Interview Series
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/jim-boswell-president-ceo-of-onpoint-healthcare-interview-series/
Jim Boswell, President & CEO of OnPoint Healthcare – Interview Series
Jim Boswell is the President & CEO of OnPoint Healthcare, Jim is a strategic thinker who has devoted his 28-year career to building, optimizing, and leading large, multi-specialty group practices within a large health system and private practice group, Jim is passionate about driving alignment, growth, performance improvement, and transformation.
OnPoint Healthcare Partners was established in response to various unmet needs in the healthcare industry, including the demand for innovative clinical support services, effective physician and staff engagement strategies, and operational change management.
You founded OnPoint Healthcare Partners in 2019 after a long career in the healthcare industry. What inspired you to start this company, and how did your previous experiences shape your vision for OnPoint?
I founded OnPoint Healthcare Partners after spending many years on the “buy side” of healthcare, working closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals. Throughout my career, I saw firsthand the immense administrative burdens that were taking valuable time away from patient care. This experience inspired me to create a company that could leverage technology to eliminate inefficiencies and allow healthcare providers to focus on what truly matters—caring for their patients.
Can you elaborate on the early challenges you faced in bringing this vision to life, especially in a highly regulated and complex industry like healthcare?
Starting OnPoint in such a highly regulated industry like healthcare came with significant challenges, particularly around data privacy and HIPAA compliance. From the beginning, we knew that safeguarding patient information had to be our top priority. We built our system on Microsoft Azure, ensuring it was high-trust and SOC 2 certified, which allowed us to provide a secure, cloud-based solution that met all necessary regulatory standards. Our deep understanding of healthcare regulations, gained from our years working within the system, was crucial in overcoming these initial hurdles.
Iris, your AI-driven system, boasts a 98% clinical accuracy rate and significantly reduces the time healthcare providers spend on documentation. Could you explain the technology behind Iris and what sets it apart from other AI solutions in the market?
Iris is truly a groundbreaking solution because it combines advanced AI with human oversight. The AI engine is supported by a continuous learning loop, which has accumulated over a million notes that improve the system’s accuracy every day. What sets Iris apart is our proprietary workflow where AI handles up to 80% of the work, and then our W2-employed clinicians step in to complete the last, most critical mile. This approach allows us to achieve near-perfect accuracy and provides our clients with the flexibility to tailor the solution to their specific needs.
AI in healthcare is often met with both excitement and skepticism, particularly around the topics of data security and the risk of “hallucinations” in AI outputs. How does Iris address these concerns, and what measures are in place to ensure patient safety and data privacy?
We take data security very seriously at OnPoint. Our systems are fully encrypted and cloud-based, with no human access to encryption keys and no storage of protected health information (PHI) within our system.
When it comes to preventing AI hallucinations, we rely on a combination of advanced technology and human oversight. Our clinicians play a key role in reviewing and validating AI-generated outputs, which ensures the highest level of patient safety and data accuracy. We’ve designed our platform with a “safety first” approach, prioritizing patient safety above all else.
One of Iris’s key features is its continuous learning loop that improves over time using real-world data. How do you manage the balance between automated processes and the need for human oversight in ensuring the highest accuracy and reliability in clinical documentation?
At OnPoint, we believe in deploying the appropriate level of technology based on the complexity of each patient encounter. For more straightforward cases, AI handles most of the documentation, but for more complex scenarios, our clinicians step in to ensure that the documentation is both accurate and reliable. This balance allows us to maintain high levels of efficiency without compromising on the quality of care.
Iris can save healthcare providers 3-4 hours per day, which is a significant impact on their workload. Can you share some feedback you’ve received from physicians and healthcare staff about how Iris has changed their day-to-day operations?
The feedback we’ve received from healthcare providers using Iris has been incredibly positive. Many have shared stories about how Iris has given them back precious time, allowing them to have dinner with their families or leave work on time for the first time in years. One doctor even told me that our obsession with accuracy has improved his livelihood because he no longer has to worry about documentation errors. These are the kinds of impacts that motivate us to keep pushing for excellence in everything we do.
With the reduction in documentation time, healthcare providers can focus more on patient care. How does OnPoint ensure that this reclaimed time is being used effectively, and what are the broader implications for patient outcomes and satisfaction?
While it’s not OnPoint’s role to dictate how providers use the time they save with Iris, we do provide robust dashboards and analytics that offer visibility into their operations. This data empowers healthcare providers to make informed decisions about how to best use their time, whether that’s seeing more patients, focusing on wellness, or improving their work-life balance.
The integration of AI in healthcare is still in its early stages. Looking ahead, how do you see AI evolving in this space, and what role do you envision OnPoint playing in the future of healthcare technology?
AI is still in its early stages in healthcare, but its potential is enormous. At OnPoint, we’re constantly exploring new ways to integrate AI into our services to create more efficient and connected healthcare systems. We’re also committed to the responsible use of AI, which is why we’re involved with organizations like CHI that focus on ethical AI practices. Looking ahead, I see OnPoint playing a significant role in advancing AI technologies that improve patient care and operational efficiency.
OnPoint recently received a growth investment from Peloton Equity. How will this new funding be utilized to accelerate OnPoint’s mission, and what strategic priorities are you focusing on in the near term?
The recent investment from Peloton Equity is being utilized to advance our AI technology and develop new products that provide a more comprehensive offering across the care continuum. We’re also investing in universal integration capabilities, which will make it even easier for healthcare providers to implement our solutions regardless of their existing EHR platform.
You’ve led large healthcare organizations before starting OnPoint. How does your leadership approach differ in a tech-driven startup compared to traditional healthcare organizations, and what lessons have you brought from your past roles into OnPoint?
Leading OnPoint is different from my previous roles in larger healthcare organizations because it requires a more agile and innovative approach. However, the lessons I’ve learned from those experiences—particularly the importance of understanding the needs of healthcare providers—have been invaluable in shaping our strategy at OnPoint. My goal is to create a company that not only drives technological innovation but also makes a real difference in the lives of healthcare professionals and their patients.
Thank you for the great interview, readers who wish to learn more should visit OnPoint Healthcare Partners.

Glancing over at the clock in the corner of your laptop, you sighed as the number 2:36 glared back at you. The coffee that was in the cup to the left of you had now grown cold after being reheated at least two times before. The goal had obviously been to drink it, but what was on your laptop screen had your current focus. At that same moment, you felt arms wrap around you as Joe then reached around to place a kiss on your cheek.
“Why is my pretty girl still awake when she should be in bed next to me? Hmm?”
“I know. I just wanted to look over this one more time before tomorrow.” You told him as you had your highlighter in your hand and stacks of research documents to the side of you.
“Babe, it is tomorrow considering that it’s past midnight and you need to get some sleep. Don't you have to be up at seven?”
“Yes, but…” You started to say, but he immediately cut you off as he got a look of concern on his face.
“No, come on. Close the laptop. You're going to bed. Now. You'll thank me later.”
Listening to your boyfriend, you let out a sigh before putting your laptop on sleep mode and once you stood up, Joe quickly placed a kiss on your lips and you eagerly kissed him back.
“How many hours of sleep did you get last night?” He asked you and you simply shrugged.
“Probably less than three if I'm being honest.” You quietly said as you had suddenly become more interested in looking down at your fuzzy pink socks than you were at your extremely attractive boyfriend.
Joe simply placed a finger underneath your chin to make you look at him and he shook his head before grabbing your hand to lead you over to the steps.
“You're going upstairs first so that you can't run back down here and get back on your laptop like you did last week.”
“Babe!” You whined, but Joe immediately shook his head once more at you.
“Nope, don't want to hear it.” He promptly turned you around and you started making your way up the steps while rolling your eyes.
Once you reached the bedroom, your clothes quickly came off with you changing into one of Joe's shirts and throwing on your bonnet before quickly hopping on your side of the bed. Joe made sure to plug your phone into the charger for you as well as set your alarm. It helped that he did have to be up at the same time and would make sure your alarm was loud enough for the both of you.
“Are you pouting because I want you to sleep?” Joe asked you as he wrapped his arms around you.
“Kinda. There's just so many things for me to do.”
“And it can wait until later. You can't keep doing this to yourself. I promise you that they aren't going to go anywhere.” He told you as he hugged you tighter.
“I know, it's just that it's really important to me.”
“And it'll still be important tomorrow. But we're supposed to have a date night so don't forget. Been missing you all week.”
“I won't. I promise. I love spending time with you and it’ll be a much deserved break. What exactly are we doing?”
“Everything is planned, babe and the only thing that I need for you to do is show up. I got it all handled. I see how hard you’ve been working so I wanted to do something nice for you.”
“Aww, Joey, I love that and I appreciate you for doing this for me. I just want all of my hard work to pay off and be able to make a difference in the healthcare world.”
“New things and advancements are happening every day and I’m sure that it will. I know how much this means to you to be able to do this.”
By the time seven in the morning rolled around, you were exhausted as you heard your alarm loudly going off beside you and you were silently cursing Joe for setting it, but also thanking him at the same time to make sure that the both of you were awake. Joe let you know that he had heard the alarm by his loud groaning for you to turn it off.
“Babeeeee, turn it off. It's so loud.”
“Not you complaining when you're the one who set it.” You told him as you grabbed it to silence it. You had thrown off the comforter and made a motion to get up when Joe promptly pulled you back and held you tightly to his chest.
“Joey….”
“Five more minutes. I feel like I never see you anymore so I need to get my cuddles for as long as I can.”
“I guess I can spare five more minutes, but remember that you get me all to yourself when I get finished today.”
“That's literally not until 5:30. I honestly don't think I'll survive until then.”
“Babe, I promise that you will. Now we have three more minutes until we have to get up.”
“The only way I'm getting up is if you'll save water with me.”
“I like the sound of that so come on so I won't be late.”
It was now around six in the evening and Joe was currently at home pacing wondering where you were. You told him that you would be home around 5:00 for date night since everything would start at 5:30, but you were nowhere to be found. He quickly decided to send you another text asking what the hold up was since you hadn't responded to the first one.
Joey- Babe, date night was supposed to start at 5:30. What is going on? Is everything okay?
You- OMG Joey, I'm so sorry. I lost track of time, I'll be on my way in about fifteen minutes. I just have to get all of my things together
Joey- This is the third time this has happened….
You- Baby, I know and I said I was sorry. I promise to make it up to you.
It was 6:45 PM before you finally stepped into the house and peeked around the corner to see Joe sitting on the couch scrolling through his phone. You knew that he had heard you come in and figured that he was annoyed with you and for good reason.
The research that you were doing was important to you seeing as it was something that you held near and dear to your heart.
You were a nurse who had an advanced degree in nursing research and your current focus was on diabetes type one, also known as childhood diabetes which you were diagnosed with at the age of five. There had been plenty of ups and downs trying to learn about the disease and how best to manage it for your tiny five year old body.
Now being an adult, you made it your focus to get a PhD in nutrition and the research you were doing was going towards it. The goal was to do as much research on it as possible in order to prevent it from happening or signs seen in patients that could lead to an earlier diagnosis. So therefore a lot of your time was spent in front of your laptop and various textbooks leaving little time for you to have an actual social life.
You walked over to him and sat down while pulling his hand into yours as you leaned over to kiss his cheek.
“Babe…” You started to say, but he barely acknowledged you.
“Okay, I know you're mad but…” You started to say, but your phone started to vibrate in your hand indicating a call was coming through. You looked down to see it was Anthony who was another person on your team that did research with you.
“Just… two minutes.” You told Joe and he immediately shook his head and rolled his eyes as he waved you off.
Walking into the kitchen, you took the call and immediately went back to where your boyfriend was.
“Joey…”
“I thought that we agreed on leaving work at work and while we're here spending time with each other. There are literally two weeks until training camp starts and I'm trying to spend as much time with you as possible but you're making that extremely difficult.”
“We did, but…”
“But what? Because this has been going on for the past month almost. I was hopeful since it's the first time you actually didn't cancel date night altogether.”
“You know how important this is to me.”
“And I'm not? I barely fucking see you anymore and if I do, you're asleep or waking up to get ready to leave the house again. You're starting to act like you're not even in a relationship and being selfish as hell.”
“Are you serious right now? You know how important you are to me, Joseph, so cut the bullshit.”
“Hmm, sure doesn't feel like it.”
“But I'm here now and we have the rest of the night. Let's not fight about this please. My day was long and I just wanted to come home to my boyfriend.” You told him as you sighed before taking out your ponytail.
“You told me that you would be here by 5:00 and you don't show up until damn near seven. I obviously asked you to be here at a certain time for a reason. It's obvious that whatever you're doing doesn't allow you to have time for me.”
“Joey! That is not true.”
“How is it not true because I'm seeing it with my own eyes? I guess that degree is doing a better job of keeping you warm at night instead of me.” He told you and your eyes immediately started to water. He grabbed his keys and started to make his way towards the front door.
“Babe, where are you going?” You quietly asked and he didn't bother looking back at you to answer you.
“Out. Don't wait up for me either. Like I said, let that degree keep you warm.”
The door slammed behind him as he walked out and you let out a sigh while throwing your phone to the side of you. The day had already been exhausting and fighting with Joe definitely didn't help and you knew that what just happened was going to cause you even more stress.
Not having energy to do anything else, you went upstairs to get into the shower and hoped that it would bring you an ounce of relaxation. But your thoughts couldn't help but to wander. Joe knew how important this was to you and how much time and dedication it took, since you told him at the beginning. However, his feelings of not being able to spend enough time with you were valid and made it up in your mind that you would do better moving forward. Just a little while longer.
The next morning you woke up to an empty bed which you weren't surprised by and began to get ready for the day. In the past when the two of you would have disagreements, Joe or you would either leave the house for an hour or two at the absolute most. Never for an entire night. After you had gotten dressed and put your faux locs into a high bun, you made sure to have all of your notes along with your laptop and left the house.
It was around three in the afternoon when Joe was simply having a movie marathon in the home theater that was located in the basement when he suddenly had gotten the idea to check your location. He could admit that he had high hopes since maybe you would come home early so the two of you could apologize and move on. He absolutely hated fighting with you, but he had to let his feelings be known that even though he was extremely proud of you for having a career, he still was an important part of your life.
To his shock and surprise, your location was set to the hospital not too far from your job and Joe suddenly began to panic. It had been a few years since you had been in the hospital for your diabetes and he had a strong feeling that this was the cause and silently cursed to himself. But, he couldn't understand why you hadn't called him to let him know that you were okay.
Immediately jumping up, he threw on some clothes and got into his car pulling out of the driveway and speeding down the street while trying to call you and praying that you would answer.
Calling you had gotten him absolutely nowhere and when he pulled into the parking lot of the hospital, he took a deep breath and tried to calm himself down before getting out of his car.
After checking in with security, he went to the front desk to ask for you. It had helped that Joe was listed as your emergency contact ever since the two of you had begun dating when you had a mishap on one of the dates he had taken you on. A nurse passing by had overheard which room he was going to and offered to show him where it was.
Once he reached your room, your nurse was in there with you checking your IV site and he noticed that a bag of fluid was infusing into you. He looked at the bag from the door and read what it was and immediately sighed.
It was insulin.
Joe quietly made his way all the way inside and your nurse Jessica was the first to notice him. It just so happened that he had remembered her from taking care of you before. And it also helped that she was one of your good friends.
Even though it was considered a conflict of interest for her to be your nurse, she wouldn't let anyone else take care of you when you came to that particular emergency department.
“Oh, look Y/N, your boyfriend is here. Hi Joe, nice to see you again. I wish it was under better circumstances, but you get it. Especially since this one doesn't know how to listen.”
Hearing this, your eyes went wide and immediately looked up at Joe as he greeted Jessica.
“Hey, Jessica. Is she doing okay? What happened this time?” Joe asked, pressing her for information, but she glanced at you first to make sure that it was okay to tell him.
“Can I tell him?” She asked you and you nodded your head before looking down and playing with your bracelet that he had gifted you when you first accepted into grad school.
“She's stable, but her sugar was damn near 800 and she forgot to take her insulin. She was having headaches all day apparently, super thirsty and not feeling like herself. Her coworkers were concerned so they called 911 to come and get her. Oh, and she forgot to eat. We're all thinking her insulin dose needs to be changed combined with a high amount of stress caused this.”
All Joe could do was sigh as he pulled up a chair to sit next to you and kissed your forehead, but you wouldn't make eye contact with him.
“And fun fact, she didn't want us to call you because according to her, you were already mad at her and she didn't want to make it worse. But I said he probably wants to know that you're okay but I'll be back soon.” Jessica said as she basically ran out the door leaving you and Joe by yourselves.
You didn't want to be the first one to speak and luckily Joe broke the silence for you.
“You know me better than that.” He whispered and you simply nodded your head.
“I know, but I just didn't want to add anything else to…”
He wasted no time in cutting you off.
“Your well-being is what's important to me. I don't care how mad I might be at you or what we argued about the night before or even five minutes ago. The only thing that is priority in that situation is making sure you're okay. I shouldn't have had to check your location to see that you were in the hospital and when you didn't answer, I thought the absolute worst. Don't you know how much I love and care about you?”
“Yes, I… just… I'm sorry. And I'm sorry for not spending time with you and making it seem like you aren't a priority when you know that you are. Now stressing myself out over this job, I ended up here. Last night I didn't sleep very well because you weren't next to me.” You told him as you sighed and laid your head back on the stretcher.
“You're amazing at your job and I’m happy you love it and I'm proud of you. I don't want you to ever think that I’m not. But you need to take better care of yourself so that this doesn't happen again.” Joe told you as he took your hand in his and kissed the back of it.
“I know and I promise that I will.”
“And I need you to promise me something else too.”
“What's that?”
“Never in your life scare me like that again. I can't imagine something happening to you and the last thing we did was argue. I don't want us to be that couple.”
You nodded your head as you laid back and closed your eyes since the light had been bothering them.
“Is the light bothering you?” Joe asked while still holding onto your hand.
“Yes, I still have a slight headache. I know food would help, but my sugar is too high and needs to get stabilized first. And besides I want to be able to look at my boyfriend so I'm slightly annoyed.”
Joe nodded even though you couldn't see him to get up and turn off the light to hopefully help your headache.
“But you know what I look like babe. I turned the light off by the way to hopefully help.”
“Not the point and thank you. You’re going to win sexiest man alive one day, mark my words. I mean you already win every year in my mind anyway.” You told him as you peeked one eye open to laugh at him while he turned a bright shade of red.
“You’re so cute and I'm always going to give you compliments, but I really need to make this up to you once I get discharged.”
“No, the only thing you need to do is focus on getting better. And maybe take a vacation.”
“We have to settle for a staycation because training camp is about to start and I obviously want you with me.” You replied as you took a deep breath and sat up.
“That can be arranged. Whatever my princess wants, she gets. But we need to focus on one thing at a time. Let's get you better first.”
Three weeks had gone by with you recovering from being in the hospital for the first week with the physicians having to adjust your dose of insulin that you had to take on a daily basis with coming up with a new sliding scale.
Joe had started training camp and was constantly telling you how excited he was. You had high hopes for him this season seeing as this is the healthiest that he's ever been.
Last night you had called Jessica to see if she was free to see if she wanted to come to training camp with you. Luckily, she didn't have any plans and immediately jumped at the opportunity to come with you.
The two of you were currently sitting to the side and she made sure to bring a wide variety of snacks so you had no excuse not to eat something.
Your eyes were currently on your boyfriend when Jessica asked a question pulling you from your thoughts.
“You two good now?” She asked and you turned to smile at her.
“Better than we were a few weeks ago. But it's still a work in progress. We know that we love each other and want to be together for the long haul so some compromises need to be made.”
“I get that you love your career, but spending time with people who love you matters too. Tomorrow isn't promised and you definitely don't want to have any regrets.”
“I get it and I'm surprised you didn't notice yet.”
“Notice what?” Jessica said as she looked at you confused.
You smiled and simply held up your left hand to show her the huge ring that was now gracing your left ring finger and she immediately gasped.
“Damn, I'm surprised I didn't notice either. And not you trying to blind me.” Jessica replied as she grabbed your hand to inspect it.
“I had to realize what I had before it was gone and I’m so happy that I did.”
“I'm going to be the maid of honor, right? I mean no pressure or anything though.” She told you as she batted her eyelashes making you laugh.
“All I ask is that my bachelorette party is top tier.” You told her and she immediately smiled.
“One less thing you have to worry about. Leave all of it to me. We'll have to make sure none of it ends up on social media though.” She said and your eyes went wide.
“Wait, what?”
“Operation future Mrs. Burrow is officially in effect.”

Are you staying? (Logan Sargeant)
Before the Miami GP, you fly over to spend some days with your boyfriend's family, and it turns out that you can charm more than one Sargeant
Note: english is not my first language. This is the first thing I've ever written for Logan and I'm excited and nervous to see how it goes! Nothing against other careers, but I'm a sucker for the stereotypical smart job and paired up with the friends to lovers trope, I made this! I hope it's good for my first piece for him! Also, I'm aware that Leo hasn't been in the paddock for what I can assume obvious safety reasons, but I thought of this and didn't want to leave it behind 🫣
Thank you so much to everyone who likes and reblogs, your feedback is appreciated 🤍 and I'm taking requests so if you have any ideas or concepts you want to share, feel free to do so as I'll try to get to them the best I can!
my masterlist

"Is this your list, babe?", Logan said as he opened the document on his iPad after you sent it to him, reading a checklist of all the things you needed to pack last minute after he said he wanted to help you.
"Yes - actually, can you help me with it, please?", you asked as you packed your usual medication, "I already have my meds in the little bag and my chargers too - you can check those off".
"Okay, done", he offered as he crossed them with the pen, "next, we have documents - passport, I'm the one with the tickets and they're in my phone as well, and Travel insurance? Since when do you do Travel insurance?", Logan wondered as you packed the documents into your bag.
"Since I'm going to motherland of paid healthcare - I don't usually get sick, but you never know! Just to my luck I could feel some pain and before I know it, I'll be knee deep into debt that no amount of working could help with! I'm just about keeping university fees covered, I can't have anymore on me", you offered as you looked at the camera. Even though the timezone was different, Logan still FaceTimed you, tucked in his bed while he saw the sunshine through the window behind you
"If it comes to that, which I hope it won't because I like you all in one piece, I would cover i-", Logan added as you shook your head.
"Let's all hope that I go and come back with pristine health and that this was just me being my forewarned self", you smiled and crossed your fingers, "what's next?", you wondered as you walked around your bedroom, looking for anything that could stand out.
You met Logan, out of all places, in the pool you had been swimming in your whole life. You never wanted to compete - for you, swimming was a way to forget about the day for a couple of hours and to ensure you were active. A couple of years ago, this boy walked inside, leaving his flip-flops on the side next to yours and he seemed to be doing some conditioning work.
Later, you found out he had picked up a muscle injury and he was there with his physiotherapist at the same time you went everyday, and by the time his treatment was over, you became good friends and it bloomed from there.
A party before his first season in Formula One was the last straw when he wasn't the only guy there who noticed how beautiful you looked. It seemed that all of the single drivers had their eyes on you, both from the novelty of your presence in the function and from the confidence you exuded. His protective side came forward, and as he was driving you back home, he didn't let you leave his place until he confessed his feelings. As it turned out, you felt the same.
"And last, but not least, lip balm", your boyfriend said in a overly exaggerated accent.
"And for that, you don't get to use this anymore!", you put the small tube on the small bag, zipping it and finding a place for it before you stuck your tongue out at him.
"That's alright - I'll just kiss you after you put it on", he smirked.
"Like that is any different from what you do now", you grumbled, closing your backpack and patting it, "I'm all ready!", you smiled.
Even though the original plan was for Logan to fly to England and then fly with you to his home country, your university practical assignments had been changed to that week and there was no way you could swap, let alone miss them. You didn't want your boyfriend to spend less time with his family because of you, so you ended up deciding that you would fly over on your own and meet him there as soon as you could.
"I miss you, I can't wait to kiss your beautiful face", he smiled.
"I miss you too, but soon enough handsome!", you said as you looked at your watch, "the train leaves later today, but I heard there was a lot of traffic so I think I'm going now", you muttered, not wanting to end the call yet but having to do it for practical reasons. Besides, Logan needed to sleep and you were sure if you didn't end the call, he would pull an all nighter.
"Don't be late, gorgeous girl - I'll dream about meeting you when you get here", Logan charmed.
"See you later, Logie! Have a good sleep!", you beamed, "don't forget to put your phone on silent because I'll text you the flight updates! I love you!".
"I will! I love you too - have a safe flight!", he smiled before his face disappeared on your screen.
Making sure everything that needed to be off was turned off and on its right place, you closed and locked the door behind you before starting your journey.
Once you had done the security checks at the airport and found your gate, the nerves on your tummy settled in. It wasn't the first time you had to fly on your own and you knew well enough where they stemmed from. You had briefly met Logan's parents a couple of times before since they travelled for some of the races, but spending time with them in their family home carried a different weight to it.
Luckily, there weren't many setbacks and the flight actually landed a couple of minutes before schedule, making you text Logan that you had already landed so he could sort the situation out.
Spotting him wasn't too hard once you saw your name on a lavender coloured cardboard and your boyfriend holding it.
"I missed you loads", he whispered on your ear, kissing under it and hugging you tight.
"I missed you too", you answered back, letting him squeeze you one last time before grabbing the cardboard, "You did this for me?", you beamed.
"Yes, one of my cousins was over yesterday and she gave me the idea to put the glitter on there", he nodded to the glittery letters.
"Yes, I definitely noticed that wasn't you", you giggled, pushing your suitcase along and to the parking lot.
"Mom wanted to come and get you, but she put in her head that the house had to be spotless, so she stayed back, and I think my dad went out to get an order my mum made for a bread she remembered you liked and she wanted you to have it", he stated, unlocking the car and popping the trunk open.
"They're going what? I don't need any special treatment, Logan, - I don't want them to think I want princess treatment!", you argued, holding onto your things, "my Goodness, your parents think I'm a snob", you groaned.
"No, they don't! They just wanted to make sure you feel comfortable and at home!", Logan offered, trying to get your backpack.
"I could sleep on the floor and be happy about it!", you grumbled before you let him get the bag.
"If you really want that, that's fine, but my bed is quite good to be fair", he smirked before you swatted his chest, helping him with the suitcase next.
"Stop making jokes, I don't want your family to think-", Logan interrupted by placing his lips on yours.
"Stop talking nonsense, my parents are excited to have you here", he spoke.
It wasn't a lie. All of his family was excited and curious to finally meet the girl that captured Logan's heart. He knew they could be a handful, and he had certainly warned you considered you came from a small family giving that your parents were only children - it wasn't so much that he thought you wouldn't feel okay, but it would definitely be a little more crowded that you were used to.
On the other side, his family's opinion mattered to him and he was nervous of what they could say. Not because of you and the person you were - he was sure you were going to be just fine, but it wouldn't be the first time that his family's opinion swayed someone the other way. His parents had met your briefly before and now you were being introduced to everyone else. Grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and everyone else that wanted to tag along and nitpick at you. Everyone's eyes would be on you, and so would their opinions.
"I'm choosing to believe you", you smiled, getting inside the car and watching Logan do the same.
"Did you have a good flight?", he asked as he reversed out of the space, "a lady behind me was saying that her daughter had a turbulent flight".
"It was fine, but I don't really know - I slept on the last couple of hours. Didn't think I had it in me", you tsked, "but the seat was quite comfy and there wasn't anyone in the middle seat, so me and the guy that was on the row sort of took over it and had a silent agreement to share it".
The drive to his parents' house was quick, Logan pointing to all of the spots that carried memories and special moments.
"That's my mom and my dad is also arriving behind us", he looked at his rear view mirror to check if his father had space to park.
"Hello! Welcome welcome, Y/N!", Daniel smiled and greeted you with a hug as soon as you stepped out of the car.
"Hi! Thank you for taking me in for these couple of days", you giggled.
"Nonsense! We're glad you could join us after all - did you do well in your examinations?".
"Dad!", Logan warned slightly, not wanting you to feel ambushed about it.
"They went well, yes! There's only one mark left and it should come out one of these days", you smiled, walking up to greet Logan's mother at the door.
"Hey sweetie! How have you been?", Madelyn asked, pulling you in for a tight hug.
"Hello! I've been good, and you? I hope it wasn't too much trouble having me here", you told her.
"Oh, no, don't worry! You're Logan's girlfriend, you could never be too much trouble", she offered, letting you in, "How was your flight?".
"It was good", you added, "there wasn't too much trouble with customs either, but it was quite tiring for me, I've never done such a long flight", you chuckled.
"When we got back to Silverstone, I had to take three days to recover from it! And I felt so dirty that I had to shower once we got home", she giggled.
"I might actually do that, if you don't mind - my whole body just feels icky", you admitted, knowing you had just arrived and while it maybe wasn't the way to go, it was something you wanted to do.
"Of course, of course! Logan will help you - I left the towels on your bed", she patted her son's back before he headed up the stairs as you trailed behind after excusing yourself.
You headed straight for the shower after getting your toiletry bag from the suitcase, kissing Logan's lips quickly before. When you exited the ensuite bathroom, Logan was doing his hair in the mirror.
"Don't you look handsome?", you whispered, kissing his cheek, "I must say, I'm a big fan of this longer hair", you mused.
"Thank you, love", he smiled, "are you feeling good enough to go out or do you want to stay at home?", he asked.
"I'm good - that shower really helped", you offered, "let me just get ready and then we can go - are your parents joining us?", you wondered.
"I'll have to ask, but I'm assuming they are - they made reservations for us for lunch too", he let you know.
"Okay, I'll just change quickly and sort my hair out", you kissed his cheek before looking for an outfit on your suitcase.
As soon as you were ready, you headed back downstairs so you could leave the house, Logan's mother insisting that you rode in the passenger seat next to your boyfriend, "it's not everyday we get to be driven around town", she snickered.
They pointed out at different houses of family members you would soon meet along with some friends and spots like their workplaces and favourite shops.
After lunch, Logan drove to his uncle's house, telling you about the little girl who inspired the welcoming cardboard he picked you up from the airport with, "she loves animals too, so be prepared to be ambushed with questions and a show of her stuffed toys", your boyfriend chuckled.
"It's true, Y/N! She has built her own collection and it's quite impressive!", Madelyn added.
The house was similar to Logan's parents', your boyfriend parking the car safely before you got out.
"Welcome Y/N!", an older woman said, "we've been waiting to meet you!", she smiled.
"That's my aunt, my uncle and that's my great aunt - she's my grandmother's sister", Logan said before you greeted them warmly, hearing quick footsteps on the corridor, "and that should be Millie".
A little girl no older than three years old ran up to Logan, hugging his legs and hiding behind them, "why don't you say hello to Y/N, honey?", her mother encouraged her.
Slowly, she peeled herself from the driver's legs, taking a look at you.
You crouched down so you would be in the same level, "hi Millie", you tried.
"How do you know my name?", she asked.
"Logan told me all about you - I loved the glitter you used for my name of the sign he took to get me from the plane", you smiled.
"I have more, do you want to see them, Y/N?", she beamed, stretching out her arm for you to take her hand.
"Go go, Y/N! I'll get some snacks out for us and then you can come down if you want something - we want to have a chat to get to know the girl our nephew's speaks so fondly of!", Logan's uncle winked before Millie pulled you.
Her room was decorated in a jungle theme, animal decals decorating the walls, "do you want to draw with me? Momma got me these with glue so it doesn't get messy", she explained before pulling a chair for herself, "Oh, I don't have one for you, I'm sorry".
"That's alright, love - I'll just sit on the floor", you smiled, kneeling down and getting comfortable.
Millie was an only child and from what Logan told you, there weren't many girls in the family, so she was taking full advantage of having some girly time with you.
"Millie! Poor Y/N has been here for nearly two hours!", Madelyn called for you from the door.
"It hasn't been that long, has it?", you wondered, feeling guilty to have spent that long away from them, "I didn't even notice!".
"Don't worry, honey! It's all good, we were just wondering if you two wanted to eat something", she procured.
"We'll go in a bit, auntie Madelyn! Y/N's nails are not dry yet!", Millie stated, "and I need to ask her a couple more questions about giraffes - did you know they're Y/N's favourite animal? She knows a lot about them!".
"Okay, then! Your momma has some sandwiches for you and little cakes for when you want to come down and join us - no pressure, Y/N, but she might keep you here forever now that she knows you like animals too", your boyfriend's mother squeezed your shoulder.
"Is everything alright?", Logan asked as he watched his mother get back to the living room on her own.
"Millie is holding Y/N hostage, but I think they'll be down here soon!", Madelyn offered, "I think she's in love with her".
"Looks like you've got some competition, man", Daniel told his son.
"She looked to be having a good time - she's such a sweet girl", his aunt said.
"She helps babysitting some kids, and there are not a lot of little ones in her family, and I'm sure Millie has picked her brain about her studies", Logan offered, "she's studying to be a vet".
"She's very lovely", Madelyn said spontaneously, "You would be a fool if you let her slip through your fingers. She's smart, caring, loving - I can tell from the way you look at her", she offered.
She had always been honest with him and she was known for not leaving words unsaid, but to do so in such a spontaneous and open way was surprising to Logan.
"And Millie loves her, and you know how much she hates new people - she has her seal of approval", she smiled before everyone heard giggles approaching.
"We were so entertained and having so much fun that I didn't even notice the time passing by", you apoligised as you sat down next to Logan on the sofa, Millie sitting by the coffee table and munching on the snacks.
"You have some glitter here, babe", Logan pointed out, shaking some of the yellow flakes from your eyebrow.
"I'm a bright star, of course I have it", you joked, giving him a big smile before Millie pulled on your pants' leg.
"Y/N, these are my favourite - momma and I baked them!", she offered you a small biscuit, "these bits here that look like giraffe spots are cinnamon!", the little girl smiled.
"Thank you, Millie", you accepted, taking a bit out of them and humming, "they're very very good!".
"Logan, did Y/N also teach you how to tell apart the different giraffe species?", Millie asked her cousin, choosing to sit on his thighs.
"I think she has, yes - the star shaped ones are the giraffa giraffa, right? And there's the one with 'camel' in the name because of a hump on the neck", Logan offered.
"That's right, Logan!", the little girl cheered as she drank some of the juice her mother offered in her cup.
Conversation flowed between you, his family members asking you questions about you so they could get to know you without delving into matters that you deemed too personal, which you were grateful for, and overall it was just a nice chat.
"Logan used to go around with this cap he had signed by some of the drivers - you must have been what? 10 maybe? I still remember the fight I had with him because he wanted to shower with it", his aunt laughed after clapping her hands once, "he was so adamant that the ink wouldn't budge that I had to show him that it would vanish and then he let me take it away from him".
You were loving all the childhood stories, holding Logan's hand and laughing with them, kissing his cheek once the rest of the group got up to help his aunt in the kitchen once they suggested that you stay over for dinner.
"I was a dorky kid, what can I say?", your boyfriend smiled as blush erupted on his cheeks.
"Shut up, your stories are the cutest!", you giggled, "way better than my 'I wanted to prove I was as tall as my older cousins so I fell in the pool' and 'I cut my own hair because my mum was busy with work and I thought I was helping her' stories", you argued.
"Depends on how you look at them, really", he smiled, stealing a kiss from your lips before Millie came back.
"Y/N, are you staying here with auntie Madelyn and uncle Daniel after Logan leaves?", she asked.
"Do you want me to leave, Millie?", Logan asked, feigning offense with his hand on his chest.
"No, silly - but I know you travel for work, so maybe Y/N could stay here!", she explained.
"I can't, Millie, I have school back home", you offered, noticing her shoulders fall.
"I like having you here, I like you", she muttered.
"I like you too a lot, Millie - how about we play as much as we can while I'm here, hm? You can pick my brain about anything you want, not just giraffes! Do you like tigers? Or cows?", you suggested, diverting the attention to something else.
"Tigers and cows? That's a weird combination", Logan quirked an eyebrow, "my practical exam was about cows and I was studying tigers before I left", you shrugged your shoulders.
.
"You guys can stay here whilst I do the debrief", Logan guided you inside the hospitality, letting you know where everything was in case you needed it.
You, Daniel and Madelyn engaged in conversation, hearing a couple of more stories from Logan's childhood and a few of your own stories from back home.
"It's my mum, sorry, if you'll excuse me", you said before heading outside since the signal was better there.
Once you finished your call to update your parents on how things were going there and here, you felt fabric run over your sandals, looking down to see a small dachshund puppy.
"Hey there, little one", you bent down to pet him, "you look like you're lost, hm? Who do you belong to?", you mused, rubbing his belly once he flopped down.
Behind you, you could hear Alex's and Logan's voice approaching and then you spotted Lily too.
"Hey, Y/N!", she waved, "Since when do you and Logan have a puppy? It's so cute!", she beamed.
"Hi! We don't, I just found him, or he found me I guess", you mumbled.
"This looks like Charles' dog, doesn't he?", she mused again.
"Have you two seen a small dachshund- Oh! Tell Charles he's here!", Logan said as he spotted the dog on your lap while Alex began calling the monégasque driver.
"He's here, Charles!", your boyfriend called once he spotted the Ferrari driver, "Animals just find their way to her, I guess", he joked as he watched you play with the dachshund puppy.
"Look at your puppy teeth - do you know what this one is called? I know, Leo! I go to university so I can treat little ones like you, but also the big ones! Have you met big dogs too?", you mused, all too happy with the puppy who seemed to be happy at the attention he was getting.
Charles approached you as you got up, carrying the puppy and giving him to him, "Oh no, Leo - did you run away from your parents?", you asked the dog, "now, that's not something nice to do, is it? They were probably worried about you, little guy!", you said before letting him go back to Charles.
"Thank you! He seems to have liked you", he pointed out, holding Leo in his arms.
"He just came in here and started playing with my shoelaces", you smiled.
"Leo does that a lot - last week, he found my sandals and he was a puppy on a mission running away from me with them!", Alexandra chuckled.
By the time the sprint race was happening, you sat in the garage and watched the whole race, waiting to see about the penalties they were handing out, seeing Logan ended up with P10.
"That was a good run, though, wasn't it?", you asked your boyfriend once he was able to be with you, "some learning curves for tomorrow at least".
"The balance was a bit off, but we'll look into it", he stated, kissing your forehead before also greeting his parents.
"I'm going to the bathroom", you excused yourself.
After discussing the sprint, his parents took the opportunity that you weren't there to talk to Logan about you.
"She loves you a lot, I can tell - I just hope we haven't been too much for her, this whole things is too much as it is", she gestured to the whole paddock and figuratively to the life her son led.
"The whole media attention definitely isn't her favourite thing, but she's been doing well, we speak about it every now and again to check and make sure we're both well with all of it. She's very private and her friends and family also help a lot with arranging stuff and being careful with those sorts of things", Logan offered.
"She's an incredible young woman, and you two are great together", Daniel complemented his wife's opinion.
All doubts of whether it had been right or not to bring you home for a few days washed away as Logan heard his parents talk about you like you were one of their own, welcoming you into their family so seamlessly and listing and pointing out all of the things that attracted Logan to you in the first place. You fit right in with his family and Logan couldn't be prouder of that.

Last one was great!
Poor arrogant reader soon will be fired from her position as head of the Family for some fabricated case, she is now basically jobless with all her belongings and money arrested and guards are not letting her leave Penacony.
She is such a mess now, so stresssed out with her career ruined she isnt even noticing that she hadnt got her period for several months.
But who will she come for help, who will accept a mess like her at such low point of her life?🤔
Of course our angelic prick will take her in. Reader doesnt have a choice to be honest. She doesnt have money to pay for shelter, food and medical care for her condition anymore?
I also hc Penacony being really expensive place especially in terms of healthcare. And abortions are strictly prohibited.
Well, clean house, homemade meals and some other nightly services could cover those expences. Our arrogant girlie will have to humble herself a bit.
And kid being born out of wedlock? Not on Sunday's watch!
Imagine some time later her former coworkers, heads of other Families or her former subordinates witnessing reader going out for groceries or just going out for a walk with Sunday holding her hand firmly?
She does not seems like arrogant bitch anymore, her belly is swollen, clothes are modest, matching rings at couple's fingers.
so sorry for the long delay in replying!!
I've been meaning to find the time to write this... and thank you for writing it in such detail. super love the content about arrogant reader get humiliated. this is awesome 😽💗💖 sunday brings it all to you but you started it first, right?
part 1
cw: yandere, dub-con, brainwashing, mind control, housewife kink, pregnancy, inappropriate traditional concepts (language about serving husband and family)
Sunday used to always forgive your arrogance and intrigue, but that's the past.
Since you like this trick so much, Sunday brings these back to you. In this dreamy and fallen city, your reputation is completely destroyed in half an hour. (He was at the party, shaking his glass and socializing with the guests.) Some Bloodhound family guards burst into your office and led you away , in full view of everyone and a lot of chatter. They grabbed your hands and dragged you forward. (He stretched his hands into fists, put them to his lips and chuckled.) It was almost a crime of betrayal to Xipe and The Family. Listen to harsh words and sign documents. (The money ejected from the machine flies into the sky. The scale of the clock is turning.)
These days of interrogation have left you exhausted. One day, you open the door to your home with the usual verification, but there is a notice on the door that it has been sealed and frozen. That was locked and confiscated. A cold stab of fear stabbed your back. There is no way to book a hotel room or rent a new house. Your bank account is also blocked.
The final straw is the realization that you haven't had your period in months. Used the last of your credit points to take a pregnancy test. The result is a baby growing inside you. There was no doubt that it was that wing bastard's baby. A baby destined to have a halo and wings.
Your eyes were sore, and tears welled up in your eyes and flowed down your cheeks.
The eyes of birds these days are staring at you from every height, corner, and alley. Your pregnancy test results are sent to Sunday's phone. His glove patted your back gently. He whispers to you, the aura continuing to send out gentle waves, shushing you. You whimpered, pushing him away in annoyance. "Get away, you bastard!"
"I just did to you what you've always wanted to do to me. Don't make a fuss." The rising corners of the oak leader's mouth only added fuel to his raging anger at you. What happened to him? He's really terrible! You point at him and take a few steps back. "Don't fucking touch me! You hypocrite."
He frowned.
"No swearing."
"What the fuck-" Just like last time, a cheerful and harmonious arrangement of notes penetrated your mind. That ethereal and strange light appears before your eyes and captures your thoughts. You obediently followed Sunday to his mansion.
What Sunday offers you comes at a price. He provided for you, after all, didn't he? You can no longer be so arbitrary, arrogant and rude. You need to pray at the dinner table, kiss him on the cheek, and be grateful to Xipe and the nutritious food he provides you. Or have him pinch your cheeks and feed you. Now that you have no job and no money, you should have time to sweep the floor, right? Keeping the house tidy is important. He checked the dust on the vase and scanned the floor. Of course don’t forget to suck his cock and spread your legs at night. He will be very, very careful. (Sex during pregnancy is always slow. You whimper when milk is secreted from your buds.)
And witnessing that humiliation! Yes, in the past, you and he competed in the workplace, and the atmosphere was tense. Everyone knows you hate Sunday. And now other family members can see the changes in you. You held his hand tightly, intertwining your fingers with your belly swollen. Those luxurious clothes of the past have disappeared, replaced by your simple, loose skirts.

a short list of things that happen to gallavich post-canon because i said so:
ian & mickey ditch the yuppy westside after a year and get a small duplex on the south side that's far enough away from either of their childhood homes to not have too many ghosts, but close enough to family and the places they know. it's 3 beds and 2.5 baths, which is the perfect size for them and any guests they may have. franny and freddie love to sleep over, and fiona enjoys staying with them when she decides she's ready to come visit.
the security business grows to the point that they file Real Business Paperwork™️ and start hiring new people. Their services eventually expand beyond just weed. Their clientele mostly consists of small family restaurants and shops that want to cater and deliver but don't have the budget to buy their own vehicles/hire their own drivers. ian and mickey's favorite client is a family run greek restaurant that sends them home with leftovers every time they do a run for them (i'm greek, chicago has a huge greek community, and it makes me happy to think of ian and mickey stuffing their faces with homemade gyros and baklava after a long day).
mickey thrives as CEO of GM Secure Transport. we know he's a math whiz, and his accounting methods, though unconventional, are pristine. he knows the city so well, has a knack for mapping the most efficient routes that keep them on time and cost effective. they set up a website and social media pages that quickly become plastered in rave reviews. he actually comes to enjoy meeting the different people that hire them, getting to know their businesses, getting free samples and leftovers. he establishes a rapport with the business on his route, and would even go so far as to consider himself friends with some of the owners.
things go so well that ian begins to consider stepping back. on the downlow, he starts doing research on a possible path back to working in healthcare. after losing his army dreams, it was the only career he ever felt passionate about. he loves helping mickey, but he misses it so much. he finds a few different legal processes by which he could return to it, and decides he's going to try. he refuses to live the rest of his life regretting not trying. he's nervous to tell mickey about stepping back from their business, but of course mickey is 100% behind ian doing what makes him happy. mickey rallies the entire family behind ian to help with the paperwork and supporting documentation. it takes months, but ian eventually receives permission from the state of illinois to go to paramedic school. he'd loved being an EMT and had always wanted to learn more. mickey draws flashcards for him and helps him study for all of his exams. ian, of course, passes everything with flying colors and graduates at the top of his class. mickey insists on throwing him a big gallagher blowout party after the ceremony. when his shifts start, mickey packs him lunch with goofy (sometimes dirty) notes in the box. (I'll forever be so angry at the writers for taking ian's EMT career from him and i refuse to believe that in shameless's wishy-washy version of the legal system he couldn't find a path back to it).
aside from their business, mickey has a small side gig as an artist. ian always knew mickey was brilliant and creative, and never passes on an opportunity to tell him so. when he went over to the milkovich house as a kid, he'd always pocket mickey's little doodles he left laying around (ian was not as slick about this as he thought, mickey 100% saw him doing it but was way too nervous to bring it up until they wound up in prison together years later). now that he has the money for it, mickey invests in some entry level art supplies, takes some classes, and really falls in love with it. he posts some of it to social media and gets way more love for it than he was expecting. people eventually ask about buying his work or commissioning pieces, leading mickey milkovich, at one time the meanest thug on the south side, to set up an etsy shop.
but what really surprises everyone is when mickey picks up knitting (thank you, @infjgemini for being the originator of this headcanon) he's always liked working with his hands, working with numbers and patterns, and the women in his art classes are always talking about their knitting. when one of them catches him looking at the patterns sticking out of their purse, she offers to share an extra set of needles and some yarn with mickey so he can learn how to do it. ian's a little intrigued when he comes from his shift and sees mickey knitting, but he just encourages mickey to keep doing it if he's enjoying it. eventually, ian stops buying sweaters, hats, mittens, etc. at the store and exclusively wears mickey couture. he can't go five seconds without telling people that his husband made one of the things he's wearing. 'oh you like this hat? my husband made it. he has an etsy store.' and 'this is my favorite sweater. my husband made it just for me, you can't have it.' franny and freddie love their custom uncle mickey sweaters. a year after he starts, mickey's christmas gift to ian is an absolutely massive knitted throw blanket that will actually cover all 6ft of ian plus mickey when they snuggle, unlike the ones at the store. it becomes ian's most prized possession, and they almost always spend their evenings and weekends curled up under that blanket watching movies on their very comfy couch. mickey's knitting of course sells gangbusters on etsy, and he wishes he could go back in time just to tell his 17 year old self that people are paying actual money for his artwork. he continues meeting with his art class friends, with the women who taught him to knit, and finds he really enjoys the low stakes gossip and chatter of their group. ian gets so hooked on all the tea he brings home, eagerly waits up for mickey to relay him the knitting circle drama for the week. he's not the only guy in the group, and there's a good enough age range that he doesn't feel like an oddball. ian enjoys meeting them, is glad that mickey has friends he feels comfortable with. some of them are elderly, and he and ian frequently go to their houses to help with chores and heavy lifting. they accidentally end up with a small cohort of surrogate grandparents, which they both really enjoy after growing up with almost no sane adult presence in their lives.
ian finds his way back to running. it's one of the many things he adds back into his routine as part of his and mickey's agreement to start taking better care of themselves. it had taken a few really loud arguments, but once the dust settled on their first year of marriage, ian insists they're going to start eating better and living healthier now that they can afford it. it takes a lot of convincing, but he manages to get mickey to quit smoking with him, to cut back on drinking, and work some more exercise into his life. mickey hates running but loves lifting (man after my own heart) so they spend a lot of time doing that together. but ian's runs are his quiet solo meditation time. he really missed it. he finds a local queer and trans run club, and once he's sure it doesn't involve caleb or any of the gay jesus kids, he joins up. he ends up getting along really well with the group, and even convinces mickey to go out for drinks with some of them. ian trains a healthy amount, doesn't push himself too hard or obsess over how fast or far he's going or how much weight he is or isn't losing--he just enjoys it. he enters in a neighborhood holiday race with the run club just for shits and giggles, and actually really enjoys the fun competitiveness and goofy holiday outfits. he keeps doing fun little races, enters a local half marathon, and then a full one. mickey always parks himself somewhere along the route with the partners of the other people in the run club and cheers like a rabid soccer mom when ian passes by. he does not care who stares. that's his fucking husband! after a few years, fiona comes home and they run the chicago marathon together. the whole entire family shows up to cheer for them, and the picture of him and fiona in their race bibs and participation medals, surrounded by the entire family at the finish line, is framed on ian's nightstand.
speaking of eating better, ian finds he really loves gardening and cooking. he starts with tomatoes, and when those go well, slowly expands. he finds that mickey's much more amenable to trying new foods if he knows ian grew the ingredients in their yard. ian loves to dig online for recipes, loves to experiment with new ingredients. one of the older ladies from mickey's knitting circle comes over sometimes to help him with new dishes. liam, franny, and freddie come to their house for dinner at least once a week just because ian's cooking is that good. liam especially takes an interest in it, and starts coming over a bunch just to cook with ian. he gets really good at meal prepping for the days he works 12 hour shifts and doesn't have the energy to cook anything when he gets home. he puts everything together beforehand and leaves mickey directions for serving it. mickey always has it ready for him when he gets home. they cook together on ian's days off. in the summer, ian will make spreads of berry pies and have the entire family over for dinner. he always hides one away for just him and mickey. for holidays, everyone pitches in to cook, but ian is the chief executive of it all, with liam as his right hand man. mickey is chief taste tester.
also--they get a dog. a few years on, mickey finds a worse-for-wear boxer-mixed-with-something wandering around one of his delivery routes, and like. he can't just leave it. he takes it to a shelter, but it sticks in his mind for weeks, until he can't resist anymore and has to ask ian about maybe, just maybe getting a dog. ian agrees, because they both really wanted a pet growing up and now they can have one because they're grownups with the space and money for one. after doing some research, they decide to go adopt from the same shelter mickey took the stray to. he's still there, and mickey never believed in fate before, but he thinks maybe he does now. they bring him home and name him Sox, both after the white sox and because his brindle coat is interrupted by four white socks. he is the most spoiled dog in the city of chicago. the 'no dog on the couch or bed' rule lasted about five seconds. he sleeps on the end of their bed every night and flops on their laps during movie time. mickey insists that dog food is dog food and people food is people food, but ian is a softie who sneaks him pieces of meat from dinner almost every night. mickey will sometimes take him on delivery runs because the customers love him and Sox loves to stick his head out the window. whenever his station does a cookout, ian brings Sox and everyone takes turns playing fetch with him. in the summer, he loves to swim with them and the kids in the above ground pool in the yard, and sit in the garden while ian works.
this is so soft, guys, but it makes me so happy to think about these two having a good life.

Terry Silver + paper clip, padlock, rainy dawn. 🤗🌹
Tagging: @kmc1989 @thedeadsingforme @eddieslut69 @mia1653 @kimbergoldess
Companion piece to:
Sick Day
Love Story

You sleep though the rest of the night. Terry sits there at your bedside watching the rise and fall of your chest as the rainy dawn filters through the blinds of your hospital room. As he holds your hand he thinks about what would have happened if he hadn’t been there, what the doctors have told him could have happened.
You would have asphyxiated. It would have been slow, agonising and the thought of that, it makes his eyes sting, because a world without you, it simply isn’t worth living in.
The ridiculous thing is that all of this could have been prevented if you just had access to the proper health care, but you had no insurance and you couldn’t afford a doctor’s visit so you’d suffered in silence. Terry would gladly have given you the money but you’re a proud woman, you would never have asked.
After you’d returned from Europe you’d returned to your modest living, picking up a part time job at an art gallery. It’s a foot in the door to the career you want, one that your happy to work for no matter how many times Terry may offer up his contacts. You subsidise your income with ad hoc catering jobs, ones that require you to dress in black and deliver canapés to men like him at charity functions. The food at these events costs more that your wages.
It isn’t until tonight that he realises that your worlds are eons apart.
You haven’t told him how you struggle to make rent every month, that you’re dining on boxed macaroni and noodle cups because you can barely afford to make ends meet. Terry finds that out for himself when he starts to investigate your lack of health insurance.
It’s five am when his lawyer Reenie Greene shows up, she hands Terry the documentation he’s requested, all of it held together with a paperclip. Terry flicks through it studying the terms before he signs it, handing it back to her.
“That’s it?” Terry asks her and she nods her head as she tucks the paperwork back inside her three thousand dollar leather satchel.
“All you need to do is transfer the funds and the trust is set up for her. Any medical expenses she may incur in the future with be deducted from it automatically.” Reenie tells him, before she hoists the bag onto her shoulder and says goodbye.
Terry waits until he hears the clack of her heels retreat down the hall before he picks up his tablet and presses on the padlock, waiting for the device to acknowledge his biometrics. He pulls up one of his accounts before making a generous transfer to the healthcare account he’s set up for you. The one that should see you through the rest of your days.
There’s a relief in his chest as he watches the money disappear before it gets to the place it needs to go. He can breathe easy now, knowing you’re taken care of, that you’ll always be taken care of, with him or without him.

SPOTIFY PLAYLIST - key tracks for this chapter: "Smooth Sailing" by QOTSA and "A Mistake" by Fiona Apple
CHAPTER ONE: Inconsiderate Neighbor
The last five years have been wild. A global pandemic impacted our life choices and decisions more than any other event in the previous 50 years. Career shifts, resettling in vastly different communities, honest declarations of who we are as people and who we love — these things I’ve witnessed first-hand.
I was an executive for a nationally renowned advertising agency. My partner of six years was a successful stock trader. About three weeks into our second lockdown, I realized I couldn’t stand the guy. I went through every reason why I’d have stayed for so long if he was so horrible. I wondered if he hated me too. Then one day, he told me.
“Brandy, I can’t do this anymore.”
He didn’t hate me; he just didn’t love me. He wasn’t horrible; he just wasn’t for me.
Working remotely gave me a similarly renewed perspective on my career choice. I worked 12 hours a day from my home office overlooking Central Park, drank a bottle of wine to go to sleep, then got up the next morning to do it all over again. Meanwhile, everyone in America was tightening their purse strings on ad spend.
Now, I’m in the Honesdale borough of Wayne County, Pennsylvania, working as a freelance document review specialist. I’m single, own my two-bedroom condo outright, and spend Sundays with my sister Amber and her two teenagers over in Damascus.
These changes introduced me to a set of concepts that I had previously denied. I thought I was happy, successful, content.
But I’m told that a constant desire for more hinders contentment. Comparison is the thief of joy, as they say. A sense of entitlement will always bite you in the ass. A lack of gratitude prevents you from appreciating what you already have and fosters a need for something beyond.
As it happens, I have a prospective client meeting in Scranton this afternoon, and my brand-new Jeep won’t start. I guess they don’t make them like they used to.
“Brandy, mon amie, where are you?” my friend Serge answers my call with worry in his voice.
“My truck won’t start,” I whine.
Last month, I complained to Serge and his partner-in-all-things Kimiko that government work was beginning to bore me. I like new things, which is a bummer, considering desire hinders contentment. Kimiko offered to introduce me to her brother, who works with one of the largest healthcare companies in the country.
“Oh, cher...” Serge laments in sympathy.
“I know, I know. And this fucking podunk town’s got like two cabs and one Lyft serving the entire county.”
I roll my neck and eyes in frustration, and in my periphery, I glimpse a man inside a single garage stall working on a motorcycle. I’ve never seen him before, but judging by the military-themed tattoos, evident dexterity with the tools he’s wielding, and his proportions, he’s the ‘asshole military contractor’ my next-door neighbor, Maggie, told me about when I moved in.
Serge frets in Frenglish on the other end of the line before returning to the point. “On se’n occupe. We will handle it.”
I watch my newly discovered neighbor deftly flex and twist and wonder if he’s as adept with other motor vehicles. “Please tell Kimiko I’m sorry and understand if this opportunity’s off the table now.”
My words are meant for Serge, but the man not 10 yards away sends me a subtle, knowing look. There’s an enduring facet of competence and perception in every flick of his eyes and wrist, every shrug of his thick, broad shoulders, and the taunting slant of his jaw. He knows I’m watching him and knows I’m in a bind.
He pities me.
I tell Serge that I’ll let him know how things go with the car before ending the call then tentatively head toward my neighbor’s garage stall.
“Hey there, I’m Brandy.” I thumb over my shoulder, indicating the general area of my condo. “Are you BJ?”
He smirks at his greasy wrench before answering, “BJ, Soldier Boy, Captain,” then pauses as he drags his eyes from his task to pin me in place. “Take your pick, sweetheart.”
He looks me down and up, slow and heavy, licking his lips. His demeanor would be comical at best and frightening at worst if I weren’t so stunned by the sheer audacity. As he unfolds from a squat, his muscles shift and grind under his sweat-slicked skin. He wipes his filthy hands on a filthier rag and saunters toward me. I have never in my life been so blatantly objectified right to my face.
“Need a ride?” he asks, meeting my eyes again. The rounded toes of his grungy work boots tap the points of my Jimmy Choos.
“I-” I attempt to speak but don’t know what to say. I should be outraged. I should tell him he can’t just look at people like that. He can’t just invade my space.
He tilts his head, and his eyes drop to my chest. “You're all flushed, Brandy. Feeling okay?” He drops his rag to the concrete before ghosting a finger along my collarbone.
Air returns to my lungs and the flush in my chest rises up my throat to my face. I smack his hand away and take a step back. “What the fuck?! Do you always harass and assault women half your size, or is it just me?”
Centuries of gaslighting threaten to drown me from one single look. And then he speaks. “My bad. Didn’t know you were a prude.”
He raises his hands in feigned surrender before returning to his bike.
“I’m a prude because I don’t like being evaluated like a pig going to slaughter?”
He rolls his eyes and sighs. “Listen—no harm, no foul, alright? I thought you were game; you’re not, no big deal.”
“Man, I came over here as a neighbor to introduce myself. You clearly heard part of my call and know my car isn’t starting. I thought, since you’re in here working on a motorcycle, you might also know something about cars.”
He nods. “Got it. Is that where we’re at right now? You want me to take a look at your car?”
“Jesus- what?! Are you for real?”
“No? Okay, then.” He turns his back, and I stare at him for a moment.
Thoughts swirl through my mind. Where is your spine, Brandy? Show him what you’re made of. This isn’t over until you say it is.
A slave to my guts and ego, I’m determined to re-engage. “Yes.”
He slowly faces me again, eyebrows raised and head tilted in question. “Yes?”
“Yes. I’d appreciate it if you’d take a look at my Jeep.”
His expression shifts—softens, some might say, but his eyes remain hard and cold. “‘Course. What kinda neighbor would I be if I didn’t?”
He strides toward my two-car stall across from his, and I follow with no other excuse than my competitive spirit and morbid fascination with opposition.
“You pay extra for two stalls?” he asks, glancing at the gym area I’ve set up beside my Jeep before rounding its hood.
From what I’ve gathered in this brief and bracing interaction, Captain BJ Soldier Boy isn’t a small-talk kind of person, but I’m not sure yet why he’s asking a simple question like that. I decide to answer as simply.
“Yeah.”
He nods and gestures to the driver’s seat. “Pop the hood.”
I watch through my windshield and the slant of space between the hood and my dash as he quickly pokes and prods at things I know nothing about. Less than two minutes later, he drops the hood shut and walks around to the open driver’s side door.
“Try it now.” He’s rubbing his hands together and his brow is slightly furrowed like he wishes he hadn’t tossed that rag aside in his garage.
I turn the key in the ignition, and it starts with no issue.
My morning started with limited knowledge of this man and the inner workings of my Jeep. I had a single goal in mind to expand my client portfolio. I did not grow my business, I have not learned anything new about my vehicle, and my introduction to my neighbor has provided me with very little satisfaction.
“Coupla loose terminals. It happens with new cars. Gotta break ‘em in.”
I flick my eyes to meet his. He holds my gaze, licks his bottom lip back between his teeth, then backs away before strolling away.
+
“He’s the fucking poster boy for misogyny.”
Maggie nods as she tops off my glass of wine. “Yeah, calling him an asshole is an insult to assholes, honestly.”
“I felt like I was transported back to the 1950s or something. He’s a caricature of misogyny.”
“The embodiment,” Maggie replies, settling back into her sofa and sipping her wine.
“Does he think that works on women? Like, are there women in his sphere who respond favorably to his behavior? He can’t be rewarded by it. Maybe he’s conducting a social experiment.”
Maggie laughs. “You’re giving him way too much credit.”
“Then why?”
Maggie stares at me for a beat. “The question is, why do you care?”
I’ve thought of nothing else since he left me in my garage yesterday morning. I felt defeated by him. Used, somehow. Inconsequential in the end.
“I hate how he made me feel.”
Maggie remains silent and intent. She’s a great listener, and she never judges.
“I had a dream about him last night.”
She nods. “And how did that make you feel?”
I shake my head and draw a deep breath. It made me feel hot and wild. I was angry and hungry for him. Or for redemption, revenge, or victory.
“It makes no sense. We interacted for like 10 minutes and I haven’t seen him since. That’s why I care. I can’t get him out of my head. I keep thinking of what I should’ve said or done instead of standing there like a deer in headlights.”
“Don’t let your pride rule you with him. He has no morals, no decency. You won’t win.”
“You think I’m trying to win something.”
She’s right. Maggie and I are a lot alike, but she’s smarter and more cautious than I am. Somewhere along the line, she learned a lesson I have yet to let sink in. She learned to resist a challenge and walk away.
“Aren’t you?”
I shrug. “Maybe.”
“Let’s change the subject,” Maggie suggests. “Did you get that meeting rescheduled, or is it dead?”
I fill her in on my chat with Kimiko. Kimiko’s brother Kenji was gracious enough to reschedule for next week, and I decided it best to go up the night before and spend the night with her and Serge in case I have any other car problems.
Maggie opens a second bottle of wine and we proceed with our binge of Dead To Me on Netflix.

I’m face down on my weight bench, straddling the padded seat with his fist in my hair and his cock hammering me from behind. He’s saying things to me, violent, hateful words, calling me names.
My wrists are bound, I’m blindfolded, and I am so wet. So wet from his rough hands, the way he slaps my ass and hips and pulls my hair. His voice is deep and rich, and it dominates the atmosphere and my mind.
He’s had me so many times already, and he wants more. He wants to devour me. He can’t get enough of me.
And I never want him to stop. He treats me like a whore, tells me I’m his whore, and I can’t stop soaking his cock and slicking up the bench.
“You fucking love my cock.”
“Yes, yes, yes, fuck me.”
I wake up in a sweat after a third night dreaming of him. I feel fractured and unlike myself. I’ve never wanted the kinds of things I’m dreaming about him. I’ve never wanted a man to degrade me or tie me up.
And this man is a pig of a man.
But I can’t get him out of my head.
I’m aching and breathless. My sheets are soaked from sweat and my pussy. I reach into my nightstand for my vibrator to soothe the twitching between my legs and rid him from my mind. I think about all the things that usually get me off, but he just keeps coming back around with big, rough hands and dirty words, and teeth that score my tender flesh.
I come silently, arching into my mattress, imagining his hands around my wrists and his cock driving into me hard.
+
When I told the newlyweds who live across the hall from my nemesis that I’d never been to our neighborhood bar, they invited me to join them for burgers and beers.
“I know it doesn’t look like much, but Butcher’s is an institution. I literally grew up in this bar,” Annie tells me as her husband Hughie distributes sticky menus and napkin roll-ups.
“I’ll get a pitcher,” Hughie says and heads to the bar.
“I like it. Thanks for bringing me.”
I glance around the space, taking in old pictures and carved sentiments in the wooden beams. It still smells faintly of cigarette smoke after decades of No Smoking laws have been enforced. It reminds me of my favorite New York dive bar.
“Well, I’m glad. I’m sure it can’t be easy to transplant to a place like Honesdale where everybody knows everybody.”
“You know, it hasn’t been too bad. Between you two and Maggie, I’m meeting all the neighbors and learning the ropes like a real local.”
I don’t mention the man who’s rapidly infiltrated every dark corner of my brain since we’re having such a nice time. I don’t want to spoil it, but you don’t always get what you want.
“Ugh, BJ,” Annie gripes, reaching for a menu even though she surely has it memorized. “He is so gross.”
I hazard a glance in the direction of her glare to see the bane of my existence waltzing toward the bar.
“He better not fuck with Hughie,” Annie says, narrowing her eyes as he brushes shoulders with her groom.
Hughie gracefully ignores the man’s obvious intention to needle him, gathers three chilled pint glasses and our pitcher, and rounds the crowd away from Captain Creep to return to the table.
“Who’s the kid?” I ask, finally noticing a quiet young man with BJ at the bar.
“That’s his son John. That kid’s been through the wringer.”
John’s smaller than his dad. He’s almost delicate-looking with a thick swath of blonde hair and deep blue eyes. He doesn’t have the swagger of the man next to him, and he seems to wish he were anywhere but here.
“MM, my man, it’s my boy’s 21st birthday! Get him a whiskey and a round for the house on me.”
“Hey.” Hughie settles the pint glasses on the table before filling each one, serving Annie and me first, then sitting down to pour his own. “John’s 21st. This oughtta be an interesting night.”
Annie tells me about watching John when he was a baby, that he was sweet and gentle, quiet but curious, and his dad taunted him for it.
“He called his 6-year-old son a pussy.” She shakes her head. “Who does that?”
John slides into a barstool and idly sips his whiskey. A few of the older patrons wish him Happy Birthday, and MM makes a point to keep his water glass and popcorn bowl full while John’s dad struts around, flirting with every woman and slapping the backs of every man.
It’s odd to see people react to him positively. Men, no matter their age, appear to admire him, and every woman he smiles at blushes and giggles.
“Should we order?" Hughie asks. "Butcher’s in the back tonight.”
I decide on the "Terror," a half-pound beef burger with taleggio, prosciutto, and peperoncini, medium-rare. Annie recommends the cheesy house fries with special sauce as a shared dish, and within 20 minutes, we have our food and a second pitcher.
A soft buzz from light American beer warms and loosens me up. In this state, I’m less critical of my thoughts about the man who’s starred in my most desperate and debased dreams this past week.
He looks good. He’s agile and powerful, which is a spectacular combination. People laugh at his jokes. They gravitate toward him. They think he’s charming and handsome, and from the background of Annie’s stories, I learn that he’s not only a merc but a war hero.
It’s nice to feel something other than the overwhelming angst and shame I’ve felt all week. He affects people; it’s okay. I’m not an outlier. I just have to ride this out.
We finish our food, and I excuse myself to the restroom. There’s a vanilla candle burning on a table beside a well-loved armchair, a basket with single-size toiletries, pads and tampons, condoms, hand soap, and lotion. Definite homey vibe.
As I step through the door back into the hallway, I’m jolted from my chill by a deep voice.
“Look at you all caszh and relaxed.”
He’s propped between the men’s and women’s, so close I brush his arm when I whirl around to connect the voice with a face.
“Jesus, you scared me.”
“Hmm.” He pushes off the wall and turns into me, backing me against the closed door.
“There’s that flush,” he murmurs. He does that thing with his finger again that made me smack his hand away earlier this week. This time, I let him.
“Is it because I scared you,” he pauses and catches my eye. “Or something else?”
I close my eyes and let my head fall back to the door, feeling the heat and buzz of a potentially malicious yet certainly pleasurable outcome. He slides a knee between my thighs and skims a heavy hand over my hip, nuzzling against my throat with a low chuckle.
My breath catches in my chest under the hand he has pressed there, holding me in place, keeping me where he wants me. Ire swirls and rises from my gut, and I grip his t-shirt in my fists to yank him into the restroom.
“There she is.” He stumbles backward with a grin as I throw the lock.
“Shut up.” I push him to sit in the chair before climbing astride him and diving in.
His lips are plush and demanding, his beard is soft, and his mouth is superheated and whiskey-wet. He’s hard and hot everywhere I touch as I tug at the button and zipper of his jeans. His hands roam over denim and my cotton t-shirt. He nips at my lips and toys with the button of my jeans.
“Fuck,” I growl, pushing out of his lap to get my pants down.
Before I know it, he’s spun me around, and he’s shimmying my jeans and underwear over my hips and down my thighs. He slumps into the chair and fits a condom over his length, then juts his hips forward to give me a place to rest. One long arm wraps my middle, and he slips two fingers over my wet slit. The wide pads of his fingertips swirl around my clit, and I brace my hands on the arms of the chair. Then he’s teasing me with his hard cock, rutting underneath, making me squirm.
When he finally pushes inside, I shout and groan from the stretch and insane rhythm he’s keeping on my clit. I go off—ride him, pumping my thighs and elbows, using his arm around my middle for leverage.
In less than a minute, I’m coming. One second later, he’s on his feet with me on my knees in the chair. He forces me to bend and hold onto the back, grips my bare hips, and pushes inside me again. He’s muttering, grunting, and, god, he’s hitting that spot with every thrust.
“Come on, Brandy,” he gasps. “Lemme feel that tight little cunt come again. Make me come.”
I reach down between my legs and press over my mound, relishing his measured thrusts. I’m booze and fuck drunk, and my ears are ringing. His hands tighten on my hips, and we both come, swearing and howling.

Hi! Imma do something rare and actually make content, but its 11 at night and i just had a brain worm
for those of you that don’t know, i work at an accounting office. we do taxes. it is tax season. and now im thinking abt how AGSZC does taxes and what their papers are like and im inflicting it on the rest of you even if its gibberish
Angeal: A godsend. Keeps his forms in order and filed properly, calculates everything else himself like a good man. Papers honestly aren’t too bad, maybe 10-12 just because of his career/insurance plus his doubtless donations to charity, but aside from that. straightforward and done at his kitchen table
Genesis: A fucking NIGHTMARE. no doubt pays someone else to do it. and for fucks sake, i know he invests. constantly and consistently and probably in anything he thinks stands the slightest chance against shinra on the market. his 1099-B is a mess and definitely Not Totaled, so his is the bullshit you have to insert one. investment. at. a time. He’s the type that keeps fucking calling too, I can just tell. but, aside from the 1099-B, he’s probably got simple stuff as well. probably several 1099-INTs from several different bank accounts, maybe a couple 1098s floating around from vacation houses or some shit.
Sephiroth: Does his own. In ridiculously early. Makes almost no personal purchases so hardly has anything to pay. I can’t imagine not having a last name or not knowing his birthday doesn’t end up a legal problem somehow, so he likely has to walk directly into a damn tax office to say hey this is me and this is my shit no, someone isn’t stealing my identity. has one singular document and it’s his W-2. Which is. Fucking astronomical. Like, the number doesn’t even look right. His paycheck as a SOLDIER isn’t taxed, so he doesn’t really get much back on his refund. The only first without a healthcare /insurance form because why tf would Sephiroth have healthcare? What’s he gonna do, get sick?
not getting into how doing his own taxes was definitely a fight between him and Hojo at some point and ended up getting hashed out in a board room. Hojo didn’t like him having the autonomy of filing for himself instead of being claimed ad Hojo’s ‘dependent’. Sephiroth deadass threatened to go to court abt it. The President told Hojo to suck it up so they didn’t have to deal with scandal, Hojo wouldn’t tell Seph his birthday to be difficult, and here we are
Zack: Panicking. Late. Doesn’t know if his forms came in the mail, doesn’t know where he put them most of the time. Scrambles around for a fuck ton of receipts, ultimately has to request Shinra send him his shit again. DEFINITELY pays someone else to do it. W-2, 1095-A, 1099-C(s)(he has several debts i can feel it i love him but he screams bad financial decisions), probably some shit for his bike too. He customs it so I can see him listing some parts he buys for it as work expenses. Jokingly puts some money he gave aerith for flowers and what he spent to make her wagon as donations to charity and it actually goes through because the church is still considered a legal entity. Definitely has to pay late fees.
Cloud: Pays Tifa to do it. Filing for both of them is a nightmare cause all their shit burnt in Nibelheim, so once Edge gets right with the WRO they have to do all their paperwork from scratch and get reassigned SSNs. He genuinely has a fuckton of paperwork from doing the Strife Delivery Service. Luckily, only ‘employee’ he has is Tifa, and even then she doesn’t do things regularly aside from pick up the phone. Doesn’t make his business an LLC until he’s literally forced to due to his number of clients and someone trying to sue him for damages. 1099-NEC for TIfa for sure, then once he’s an LLC, some yearly maintenance to keep legal. Mileage and gas expenses go CRAZY on his self employment form, I fucking bet. I bet Cloud’s handwriting is shit tho. Tifa’s at her desk counting up his gains and losses for fucking ages because his fives look too similar to sixes. Eventually she wrangles him into installing some shit on his phone that counts it up, if only to cure her headache. Funnily enough, he does get veteran benefits from what’s left of Shinra’s shit, reparations of sorts, but he doesn’t keep it. All goes to charity, so that ends up in the books too.
alright, that was unnecessarily in depth and way longer than i planned. good night LMAO

Intro post!!!

Hi, I'm R and I'm starting this study blog to track my progress and hold myself accountable (sort of like a digital diary)
About me -
Currently enrolled in a post graduate program in data science and business analytics (started it when I was feeling lost and didn't know what to do with life but now might as well finish it with a good grade)
Preparing for an entrance exam for a master's in electrical engineering (because this is what I really want to do)
Full time job in healthcare management (and somewhat hating it) (not because it's bad but I just really want to make robots and stuff)
Other things I'm interested in or want to learn (but can't commit to right now because I only have 24 hours in a day)
Photography & Cinematography
Digital art
3D modelling and animation
Japanese
Programming (specifically ML & AI)
Pencil Sketching
Writing
Sanskrit
Indian Mythology
Reading
Astrophysics (just want to learn for the heck of it; don't really want a career in the field)
All photographs are my own unless specified otherwise.
I'm very bad at finishing things I start so that's why I'm going to document my life from now on to keep myself accountable. Wish me luck!!! 🤎

I’m looking for a second career after working corporate. I’d like something away from a computer, workin with people, in demand, and more flexible. I do have some autistic traits though (one therapist floated it but never officially diagnosed). Do you think nursing would be a bad choice?
Here's a useless answer: it depends! I'll also give my usual caveat that nursing is a very broad field and a school nurse versus a dialysis nurse versus an ICU nurse versus a home health nurse vs a community health nurse are all going to have different experiences. You'll probably spend more time at a computer than you might like (documenting......), but if you get efficient at it, you can blast through it alright. Except when you can't.
And you will work with people! In any part of nursing, you'll be working with people, often in intimate and vulnerable ways. You meet a lot of cool people and get to be there for a lot of cool moments, cool and funny and profound moments. Working with people when they aren't at their best can be exhausting. Working with people when they aren't at their best and also you're understaffed and also someone is complaining of new onset chest pain at the same time someone else is calling to be cleaned up because they've been incontinent--it's really easy to exhaust yourself out of compassion. You have to care and actively engage with people's often tragic situations, but you also have to protect yourself from secondhand trauma. It's okay if this is not something you're comfortable or good with, but if so, you should probably think critically about whether nursing is for you.
And flexible--maybe??? Again, different jobs will have different perks. A lot of nurses work prn which means they have to pick up a certain number of shifts a month, but they aren't on the schedule normally. You just pick up as you want. Very flexible! But also a lot of these nurses are getting their healthcare elsewhere, usually a partner. Like any shift work, you can always swap shifts with a coworker if you can find one who'll do it. When I worked in home health, it was very hard to adjust my schedule because there wasn't necessarily another nurse that could fill in. And often units in the hospital will have various schedule stipulations--work every other weekend, work a certain amount of holidays, work night shift until you get the seniority to go to days or become a nocturnal little freak (me). I currently work in float pool, which makes it way easier to call out and adjust schedules because I'm not assigned anywhere specific until like ten minutes before the shift starts.
And with regards to the last bit, the autistic traits, I don't know exactly which ones you mean, but none of them are an inherent obstacle to being a nurse. We need neurodiversity in nursing. Some patients might find you cold or awkward or weird or whatever way you worry you might come across. Other patients will resonate with those exact same traits. No one's the perfect nurse for all people. Some people want to that extra care, some people want competent work and then to have space for themselves, some patients want to learn everything about their situation, some patients don't even want to know what pills they're taking. Think of yourself as a specialty nurse. An oncology nurse can take care of a variety of patients, but they're most well suited and situated to take care of cancer patients. There's a patient type that is a perfect fit for you. And the same way cardiac nurses deal with strokes, and orthopedic nurses deal with respiratory infections, you work competently outside your specialty because you have a good base for your practice, but you also know that you have specialties that you are uniquely equipped to handle. Specialties like cheerleading through physical therapy, calming down dementia patients, knowing the shit out of telemetry, making sure patients get a bed bath and clean sheets, using a machine to pump a patient's blood outside your body--whatever you most like, you're most good at, what gives you energy to work. I think mine are working well with "difficult" patients, managing pain, and stealing cranberry juice from the patient fridge. for me.
I'll say too if you're worried like a lack of empathy or easy understanding of other people will be an impediment to care--I'm not saying I'm autistic, but I don't think I'm particularly empathetic. I NEVER know what people are thinking or feeling. I struggle to tell when patients are like "talk to me more!" versus "I am being polite to you, but please leave." I have never once been comforting a crying person and thought, "I am NAILING this. I am making them feel better." But I don't think I'm a bad nurse. I reverse engineer empathy by finding a situation that I was in that's similar to the situation a patient is in, and I think about what I would have wanted and appreciated in that situation. I think about what evidence says is a good thing to do in this situation. I think about what experience tells me has worked in this situation in the pas. I also just ask patients what they're feeling and what they want and why they do what they do instead of assuming I know. (That last one is so choice, we should all do it more.)
The job puts you in a lot of Situations that are hard for anyone to manage. So you can study up for a lot of Situations. I read conflict resolution books and writing by sick people, I think about how adherent I am to my own treatment plan when I get judgy, I ask patients a lot of questions in part so I can understand them but also so I can understand the next patient like them, I practice difficult conversations I can predict before I go into rooms, and I make sure I have certain phrases and reactions in my back pocket in case I'm caught by surprise. I've figured out my safe topics of conversations that I can chat about with patients that are personable but not intimate (cats, how long you've been in the area, how hard it is to sleep in the hospital at night). I periodically try out new conversation styles and topics to see how those work. I find people I admire and I try consciously to emulate them.
I make a shitload of rules too that help me structure my behavior so I can act like a person I'm proud of. If I can't get something for a patient, I have to go back and tell them that instead of just never returning to the room. Whenever I leave a room, before I go, I make sure the call light is within reach and I ask if there's anything I can do before I go. If someone is sad, ask if they want hot chocolate, and if they say yes, ask if they want it with hot water or milk. If I have a patient that is very chatty and always on the call light, allot conversation time with them like I'm scheduling wound care in case they're lonely. Whenever I tell a patient that they can't do something, I explain the clinical reasoning for that. If the only reason I can think of to tell a patient why they can't do something except "it's against hospital rules", I reconsider the refusal. I've got so many rules and guidelines I've developed for myself so I can best act in a way that I think a good nurse should act.
(usual disclaimer that this does not mean I always accomplish this or that I always behave in a way I'm proud of. but I do think developing these rules and following them makes behaving like I want to more habitual.)
All this to say--I care tremendously about my patients when they're my patients, but I don't take most of them home with me. I feel often feel very distant from the emotions of the situation. I used to feel like I was watching the world through glass. Now I still feel like that, but not in a bad way. I don't get mad when patients yell at me. I can view their problems as quests to solve. I'm engaged but I'm not flustered by distress.
look alllllllllllllllllll that to say is have you considered making nursing a special interest? works for me. oh and YEAH. The job security is AMAZING. It's such a weight off my mind to know that if I don't like my current job, it's so easy to get another somewhere else.

Hitler had a family too.
The sympathization over killer-turning-victim, and what we learned from the recent CEO’s shooting in NYC.
Brian Thompson’s two teenage sons and widow are the latest addition to the grieving sea of people surrounding his name, but ironically the only ones who joined it after his death.
Thanks to his fruitful career path of being a healthcare bouncer, thousands of sick people’s coverage claims got denied, resulting in the deaths of at least 2 people.
His major in-office accomplishment is arguably the AI algorithm used to simplify the approval or denial process of insurance claims. More specifically, “the investigation, cited by the lawsuit, found UnitedHealth pressured medical employees to follow an algorithm, which predicts a patient’s length of stay, to issue payment denials to people with Medicare Advantage plans. Internal documents revealed that managers within the company set a goal for clinical employees to keep patients rehab stays within 1% of the days projected by the algorithm.”
The lawsuit, filed in the U.S. District Court of Minnesota, accuses UnitedHealth and its subsidiary, NaviHealth, of using the computer algorithm to “systematically deny claims” of Medicare beneficiaries struggling to recover from debilitating illnesses in nursing homes.
The reality of the matter is that although the shooter, Luigi Mangione, assumed the role of the judge and executioner, Brian Thompson was appointed to play the role of God. And only one of those situations is illegal.
It’s frankly really enticing to add that only one of these situations is morally reprehensible, but this is not true.
“Vigilante justice is fault proof” is not a hill most of us want to die on. Personal acts of violence can never equate to the judicial system, nor do they claim to most of the time. What they have in common, however, is the perpetrator’s objective goal for his initiative to incite a change for the better.
The proposed takeaway from this is the symbolic perception of Mangione’s act, as a telltale of greed, class war and injustice.
Immediately upon news were released, a hope for the class movement was born while a shiver run down the 1%’s spine.
The poor did not rejoice that a man is dead, though they most certainly cheered at the symbolized slaughter of Healthcare Inc.
The opportunity for this incident to awake class consciousness among the lower ranks must not be stifled by the mourning of human life.
Just because monsters die like humans doesn’t mean we have to mourn them.

we have always been here: documentaries about trans people
documentaries about trans people, starting in the year 1953. I don't speak to filmic quality or whether or not something is problematic, what matters here is simply the testimony and the stamp of existence (including in those where the subject matter is spoken about, rather than getting to speak for themselves)
(I haven't seen every one of these yet, so some of them have slightly shorter texts to go along with them)
while (as you'll see) most of these are US-based movies, they are from all over the world. I'd be curious about whether there are any focused specifically on the intersection of transness and disability, I don't personally know of any, although of many speak to issues with access to healthcare (for example southern comfort)
all the ones that have links connected to them are watchable for free
some of these can be watched for free on the archive, youtube, vimeo, many could do with a few coins thrown their way: many of the movies, for example the the aggressives can be rented on vimeo, transgender tuesdays is free on youtube but accepting donations for trans women of colour, lotus sports club is doing festivals currently and is accepting donations to support the team and the vulnerable trans (now men) who have had to leave it to find work, call her ganda is accepting donations to support the family's legal costs in bringing justice for their daughter
