Heirloom BBQ.
(1) Brisket taco, pulled chicken taco, spicy Korean pork, and pulled pork taco. The brisket taco was my favorite. The kimchi slaw didn’t really stand out. The Korean BBQ Sauce was pretty good.
The cucumber radish slaw was the star to me. The Mac and cheese was a let down, not special, pretty dry tbh.

Round 3 Match 3
Tumblr media
propaganda below the cut! (wall of text warning)
Björk:
"sooo pretty"
"Björk looks like her music sounds. Out of this world and beautiful"
"she's like the chipmunk who visits my window"
"She is mjother. She has the range, the versatility to serve any and every kind of beautiful you could ever want. She went from cute art pop girly to icy electronic queen in the span of a few years. She served cunt while dealing with the fallout of divorce. And then immediately pivoted to ethereality and fairies. An icon. Oh also, all of Vespertine exists. Need I say more?"
"She IS grateful grapefruit. No one is doing it like Björk she's so one of a kind and insane and very beautiful and everyone should vote for her. A vote for Björk is a vote for Icelandics everywhere!!!!!!!"
"Björk's voice had such a beautiful clarity and delicate chastity that has infused some of the loveliest songs to ever be written. She is an angel that came down from the Heavens to bless us all with her talent, her mind and her grace. Vespertine, with the most elegantly crafted songs of Pagan Poetry, Cocoon, It's Not Up To You and every other majestic opus on the album stands as the most mystical, tragic, and sensual exploration of love and the core of us that makes us human, our souls. And my second favourite album only to In Rainbows. And all her other albums are great too. Just Google I Love To Love by Björk which is a cover but still shows you that she was the most talented sweetheart ever, even at 6 years old. She is my fire, the one desire. I quoted Backstreet Boys, that should tell you how dedicated I am to this cause. If that still doesn't persuade you however, I'll have you know that Justine Frischmann burned my house to the ground, frequently urinates on my lawn, abducted my mom, pushed my grandmother down a flight of stairs on her trip to Manchester and chopped my dad's "you know what" off to use as a heirloom for her house. She is a nasty and crazy woman. Vote Björk, our Icelandic queen."
"bjork is sexy in a mind-expanding way. she would [redacted] and then teach u how to build a computer. my partner says she makes music for autistic people to have sex to. also history ot touches ??????? hello????"
"Have you seen the swan dress? She's an icon and she is the moment"
"swan dress. need i say more"
(the dress in question)
Tumblr media
Dave Grohl:
"Dave grohl. Where do I begin? THIS MAN IS GOD. I WANT HIM TO STRANGLE ME WITH THOSE GIANT TATTOOED ARMS AND STEP ON MY SPINE. I'M NOT KIDDING"
"multiple things to do to/with dave grohl (all affectionately) : 1.) shrink him, hold him in my hands and study him 2.) put him in a washing machine and watch him spin 3.) talk to him for hours on end 4.) wash his hair 5.) ask him about his hair routine 6.) give him a little forehead kiss 7.) bbq with him"
"HOW could anyone NOT pick 90s Dave? He was SOOO beautiful 😫😫 Especially in Nirvana, come ON"
"I mean- just look at the man. If I ever saw him in real life I think I'd unexplainably combust on the spot. I'd sell my grandfather at a garage sale for him."

Chapter 17 no work but lots of developments!
We start off at a Thai bbq restaurant. Thongthai brought he 5 year old brother and everyone thinks he's the cutest. The news is covering the case they just closed. Phaya is putting food on Tharn's plate and Yai notices how flirty they are being. Phaya announces they are dating. Everyone asks if he's serious or if it's April fools and how long. The Captain smugly says she knew. She sensed it from day one. If anyone gives them trouble, she says she'll give them demerits until they don't have any time off .
Phaya says they are lucky that they knew right away they wanted to be exclusive. Tharn is embarrassed. Khem notices and teases him when his face turns red. Singh congratulates him. Yai keeps giving them looks. When they go to leave for the night, Yai asks Tharn to come back with him. Tharn says he was going to go with Phaya but Yai is worried. Phaya tells him he won't break Tharn's heart. Tharn punches Yai's arm and says how can they not be serious. Yai is worried that Phaya's father won't allow them to be together. Phaya says not to worry he'll handle it. Tharn asks Yai to stop making a scene.
After they leave, Phaya asks how long Tharn has known Yai. Tharn says they've known each other since grade four or five. That they are basically brothers and Yai was there for him when his father died. They get to Phaya's grandmas house. Tharn asks how to behave. Phaya tells him to be himself.
His grandmother asks Tharn to come close to see him better. She looks between them and says it must be destiny. Phaya is worried but she assures him that no matter how far apart they are it doesn't matter if they are destined. She pulls out a golden ring of Tharn and says it's a family heirloom. It's carved with a saying: with love I own...eternally for you. Grandma says to consider it an engagement ring. Tharn and Grandma become fast friends making Phaya feel like a third wheel. She gets tired and goes to bed.
Phaya asks about the ring asking if he's accepting the proposal. Tharn says he can't refuse a gift from an elder. Phaya says if he's keeping the ring he must accept his proposal. Tharn says they just started dating. Phaya retorts they have known each other a long time. Tharn thinks it's because they met as children. Phaya means their past lives and thinks of the different versions Tharn has been: a woman, a man, a girl, a boy, a dog, and a bird. Phaya says if he wants to know Tharn will have to force it out of his mouth with Tharn's mouth.
Tharn leans is close enough for their noses to touch and says: dream on, asshole. So Phaya grabs him by the nape of his neck and kisses him deeply. It ends with a bite of his lips and Tharn wrapped in his arms. Tharn starts to curse him out and kisses him back. Wraps his arms around Phaya's neck and presses their bodies together. Phaya moves them to the bed where they continue kissing.
When they separate, Tharn says he forced him with kisses so spill his guts. Phaya didn't answer right away and pulls Tharn to lay on his chest. Phaya eventually says they've known each other since their past lives. Tharn asks if he's joking and Phaya says he's completely serious. Tharn asks how their past was and Phaya says Tharn loved him and did everything for him. Phaya says he never did anything for Tharn and didn't realize he loved him until he had already lost him. Phaya is lying there with tears in his eyes. Tharn snuggled into his chest and wonders of Phaya saw his past and felt lost.
Phaya says: I lost you in my past lives, but in this life, I'll never let you go
Tharn says how could he lose him? He's right here. He's not going anywhere. They kiss again and Phaya tells him he's making it hard to control himself. Tharn isn't ready for more so they just kiss and cuddle some more.
Tharn says he needs to sleep at his own place the next night. There wasn't much work so it was a light day. Tharn went home and Chalotorn shows up saying they have an appointment. Tharn apologizes for forgetting and asks if they can do the appointment in his apartment. Chalotorn asks why he hasn't seen Tharn in days. Tharn tells him he started a relationship with Phaya. He smiles but it doesn't reach his eyes and asks if they can get started. Tharn lies on his couch and closes his eyes. Chalotorn's eyes change to red and he pulls out a gemstone and mumbles something and places it on Tharn's forehead which he doesn't notice as he's under a spell.
We flash forward three months. Phaya took Tharn to meet Darawan. Tharn was nervous at first but they become friends quickly. Still nothing exciting happening at work. Phaya takes Tharn to his house once a week but they rarely meet his family. This time it's planned so they can announce they are dating. His sister already knew as she's friends with Dao. She almost blurts out that she replaced the book that Phaya borrowed that was originally Chalotorn's. Phaya bribes her into not saying anything. In the middle of dinner, Tharn gets a call from his grandmother to tell him his mom is sick. Very sick and may not live another month.
Phaya takes Tharn home. Tharn apologizes that he couldn't stay for dinner with his parents. Phaya says forget it and let him know to tell him if he needs anything. Phaya takes Tharn to the airport and sees him off.

What’re we eating kids?
It’s hotter than Satan’s asshole here, but I have some mushrooms that are about to grow a whole new fungus in my fridge so I’m making this mushroom marsala pasta bake--which is usually one of my FAVOURITE pasta dishes, but it’s just about the last thing I feel like tonight.
A cheesy, baked pasta dish when it literally already feels like a fucking oven outside is not high on my cravings list, but alas, here we are.
The heirloom tomatoes are incredible this year and I kind of can’t stop thinking of a simple salad of a mound of sliced tomatoes, a hefty glug of olive oil, tons of flaked sea salt, and a slice of panko’d, fried feta (probably in the air fryer). I had a similar salad of pink tomatoes with crispy crunchy fried feta at Babylon in Stockholm and I just have become OBSESSED with the concept.
That, along side a T-bone steak on the bbq or something. UGH I crave.
But I’m also making burritos this week which I love and I don’t make nearly often enough, so kind of win?

The Baron In The Trees.
♫ Best of Indie 2011 on Spotify
What a July: I’ve felt terrible all month. The kind of terrible that is quiet and slow but heavy and super alarming. When you blink to find you’ve spent all  day in bed; and then it’s been a couple days. And you’re like oh man, I might really be in trouble.
Luckily though there have also been a few walks. Long walks. One down to the lake and others to the grocery. But there’s this implication summer weather brings, one that implies you should be full of lightness and sultry feelings perhaps, and I’ve been having none of that. What’s the saddest movie that takes place in June? July and August? I’ve hit the wall emotionally and so decided to take up counselling. In my first session I mentioned over and over, my seeming inability to work. Panic used to persuade me, but now there is no panic. Everything just passes. A feeling has come, a feeling of being far from home with no way back, meanwhile I’m living where I’ve always lived, being where I’ve always been — maybe that is the problem. Sometimes one just needs to get the fuck out of town!!!
Then of course as soon as I’ve written all that, I feel suddenly full of good spirits. I’m a mix of good and batty. Best part of summer? A big box of mangoes for $6.99. Plus with a lower course load I’ve had more time to read. I finished Stoner by John Williams and am nearly done with Cassandra at the Wedding by Dorothy Baker, both of which are NYRB classics, nice and sturdy but accessible when it comes to the language. I got upset reading Cassandra at the Wedding because I so wanted the storyline to go one way, only for it to nosedive in another. Such is life. Such a deep, rhythmic and sensual book, though. Also: boy, maybe the simple thing is that I am dumb, but I tried getting into Persuasion by Jane Austen and I am just not there yet. Not at all. So I’ve put it aside and will return when I’ve gained my strength (in terms of vocabulary and my ability to follow a sentence through multiple commas).
This post title comes from a novel by Italo Calvino, The Baron In The Trees. Here’s the summary:
Cosimo di Rondó, a young Italian nobleman of the eighteenth century, rebels against his parents by climbing into the trees and remaining there for the rest of his life. He adapts efficiently to an existence in the forest canopy—he hunts, sows crops, plays games with earth-bound friends, fights forest fires, solves engineering problems, and even manages to have love affairs. From his perch in the trees, Cosimo sees the Age of Enlightenment pass by and a new century dawn.
I’ve never read it; I stumbled upon it by going through my new favourite column, Eat Your Words by Valerie Stivers. It’s AMAZING. Stivers is AMAZING. She goes through books and recreates the dishes mentioned, and when it comes to Baron, we get recipes for Sour Cherry Meringue Pie, Tree-Nut Tart, White Chocolate Peach Tart and Frozen Grapefruit Chiffon Pie with Gingersnap Crust. What a way to inhabit a book before you’ve been there (if you’re like me and have read hardly any of the books she references).
I love food, pictures and descriptions. I recently followed the Redwall Feasts Bot on Twitter for lovely sentences like “I'd like a beaker of raspberry fizz and a big pastie, a mushroom and carrot one; after that I think I'd go for a piece of hot apple and pear crumble, with sweet custard poured all over it.” Side note: summer heirloom tomatoes are the best tomatoes in the world. Tomato sandwiches get me hot and emotional. Crusty bread, heaps of mayo, a bright layer of tomatoes, and salt and pepper, tons of both. Christ. Another favourite is toast with butter, salt and radishes. I could eat this all the time. I’m going to eat it as soon as I wake up tomorrow!
My favourite “hauls” are books and groceries. Yesterday I bought dried cranberries, bbq corn nuts, halloumi, multigrain bread, parsley, mango/pineapple candy rings and a purple sweet potato.
It’s nearly midnight. I have a lot of work to do before an internship meeting in the morning. I fucking hate meetings; oh jeeze stop wasting my time. Seeing as how I just can’t work, this will be a mighty task — I hope I can achieve it. I’ve got apple cinnamon tea + a stick of cinnamon in my thermos and Interview with the Vampire on the television.
Just reminding myself the meeting will be over with by noon tomorrow and I’ll get to eat my radish toast and later, at night, go see Nope and bring my candy rings and have some salty, buttery popcorn.
There is not much more I can do but give myself over, and all the way over. Once I get to the point where I’m scared I should keep going.

A Taste of Melbourne: Exploring Local Flavours with Catering
Nestled on the southern coast of Australia, Melbourne is a city that dances to the rhythm of its diverse and eclectic culinary scene. While it's well-known for its bustling laneways and award-winning restaurants, there's a hidden gem in Melbourne's culinary landscape that often escapes the limelight: its thriving catering Melbourne industry.
Local Ingredients, Global Flavours
Melbourne's catering scene takes pride in its unwavering commitment to showcasing the finest locally sourced ingredients. The state of Victoria, in which Melbourne is located, boasts a diverse agricultural landscape, ranging from fertile farmlands and orchards to thriving vineyards. This unique geographical advantage ensures that caterers have access to an abundance of seasonal produce, meats, dairy, and seafood.
For example, when you bite into a dish prepared by a Melbourne caterer, you might savour the sweet and juicy flavours of locally grown Victorian strawberries, the creamy richness of Gippsland dairy products, or the robust, earthy notes of Yarra Valley wines. Utilising these regional gems, caterers create menus that embody the essence of Melbourne's culinary heritage.
Beyond supporting local farmers and producers, this emphasis on local ingredients also enhances the overall quality of the dishes. Freshness is paramount in Melbourne's catering world, ensuring that every bite bursts with flavour and vitality. Whether it's a crisp garden salad adorned with heirloom tomatoes or a succulent slow-roasted Victorian lamb shank, the commitment to using local ingredients elevates the dining experience to new heights.
Diverse Culinary Traditions
Melbourne's multicultural population has contributed significantly to the city's reputation as a culinary melting pot. It's no surprise that this cultural diversity finds its way onto the plates at catered events throughout the city.
Imagine attending a corporate luncheon where you can sample tantalising bites of Vietnamese pho, Japanese sushi, and Middle Eastern falafel—all in one sitting. Melbourne's catering companies embrace this diversity and offer an array of global flavours, allowing event planners and attendees to embark on a gastronomic adventure.
Perhaps one of the most beloved aspects of Melbourne's catering scene is its street food-inspired offerings. Food trucks and pop-up stalls have become staples at events, providing guests with the opportunity to savour dishes inspired by cuisines from around the world. The culinary creativity knows no bounds, with options ranging from Korean BBQ tacos to Ethiopian injera with spicy stews. This cultural fusion not only tantalises the taste buds but also sparks conversations and connections among guests, making each event a memorable experience.
Customisation and Creativity
Melbourne's caterers are known for their adaptability and innovation. Whether you're hosting an intimate garden wedding or a grand corporate gala, these professionals work closely with clients to craft customised menus that align with the event's theme, dietary requirements, and budget.
The attention to detail extends beyond menu planning. Presentation is an art form, and Melbourne's caterers are masters at creating visually stunning food displays. From colourful fruit platters arranged to resemble edible works of art to meticulously garnished entrées that are almost too beautiful to eat, the creativity in presentation adds a captivating dimension to the overall dining experience.
Moreover, the commitment to creativity extends to the development of signature dishes. Many caterers in Melbourne are known for crafting unique culinary creations that leave a lasting impression. These innovative dishes often incorporate unexpected ingredients, textures, and flavours, ensuring that guests are treated to a culinary adventure that transcends the ordinary.
Sustainability and Ethics
In an era when sustainability and ethical practices are at the forefront of societal concerns, Melbourne's catering industry has stepped up to the plate. Many catering companies are actively engaged in initiatives to reduce food waste, minimise their environmental footprint, and promote ethical sourcing practices.
Efforts to reduce food waste include implementing efficient inventory management systems and donating surplus food to local charities. Caterers are also transitioning to eco-friendly packaging options, such as compostable dinnerware and biodegradable utensils, further reducing their impact on the environment.
Moreover, the focus on responsible sourcing ensures that the food served at events is not only delicious but also ethically produced. This includes seeking out suppliers who adhere to fair labour practices and animal welfare standards. By aligning their operations with these values, Melbourne's caterers are not only satisfying the palates of their clients but also contributing to a more sustainable and ethical food ecosystem.
Melbourne's catering industry is a vibrant and dynamic part of the city's culinary tapestry. With its dedication to local ingredients, celebration of diverse culinary traditions, commitment to customization and creativity, and emphasis on sustainability and ethics, Melbourne's caterers offer a unique and memorable dining experience for any event. Whether you're hosting a small family gathering or a large corporate function, Melbourne's catering professionals are ready to serve up a taste of the city's local flavours, ensuring that every bite is a culinary delight. So, the next time you find yourself in Melbourne, make sure to explore the world of catering and savour the richness of the city's food culture.
