"Come Closer"
"Come Closer" Came the nervous whisper of the green painted girl as their evening's performance of Wicked came to a closer. Marla wasn't sure what she expected but Henrietta improvising the kiss back into the play certainly wasn't it!

Pete x F!Reader
[Submit a prompt before we close on Mon!] [South Park Master Lists]
My boyfriend Michael was having some of his friends spend the night. We spent a lot of time smoking, drinking, (They introduced me to Kahlua and Coffee, it was really good!) and watching old horror movies. We spent most of our time dissecting and mocking them mercilessly, but it was still a good time.
Everyone crashed in the living room, but I couldn’t sleep.
I got up, deciding to hide in the bathroom and have a cigarette. I left the door cracked to the smoke could escape and to like, be kinda polite in case anyone needed to use it, you know?
The door slid open quietly.
It was Pete.
He reached over and I handed him the cigarette, “Can’t sleep?”
“Shit, sorry. Did I wake you up?” I asked as I watched him bring it to his lips and pull in a long drag.
I always thought Pete was hot. I hate to admit it now, but when I fell in with the Goths, I was so into him that it was pathetic. I swear, sometimes the way he used to look at me, with this playful, sexy narrowing of his eyes, it used to make me melt.
He never made a move, but Michael did, so the rest was history.
Or so I thought.
“No, I have wicked insomnia,” Pete was giving me that look again, “I just saw you get up and… I don’t know. I wanted to talk,”
He handed the cigarette back to me and I was rightfully a bit confused, “Talk? If this is about the Kahlua, Henrietta said–“
“It’s not that,” Pete almost chuckled as he watched me snuff the cigarette out in the bottom of the sink.
I was even more confused, “What is it then?”
He slid his hand over my cheek and kissed me. It wasn’t soft or nervous. It was hard and intense. He slid his tongue into my mouth and as our tongues rolled over each other, I felt like I was melting. He was a great kisser and it left me a little light-headed.
When our kiss broke I couldn’t speak. He's my boyfriend’s best friend. He was my friend.
“I want you. I’ve always wanted you,” His thumb caressed my cheek, “He doesn’t know what to do with a girl like you,”
Pete kissed me again and we both knew I wasn’t going to put up a fight. His hands dropped to my waist and he turned me and pushed me up against the sink.
He pulled down my favorite little pajama shorts and I watched him smirk in the mirror as his fingers skimmed my naked slit, “No panties?”
My face felt hot as I watched him in the mirror.
“You’re this wet already?” He bit his lip, but didn’t hide a small groan as he pushed his fingers right inside, “Just from kissing?”
Wasn’t sure what to say. One minute I was by myself trying to enjoy a smoke and the next…
He curled his fingers and my legs felt weak. I tried to hold in my sounds of pleasure as he started to massage my sweet spot in a way I’d never felt before.
I could feel everything building inside me. Pushing me to the edge. The way he touched me was like magic and I was savoring every second of it.
“I can’t believe you’re so wet for me,” Pete leaned over me and left a small kiss on my neck, “You feel too fucking good,”
He withdrew his fingers from me and I almost cursed. I was too fucking close. He had to have known.
He pushed his pants down to his thighs and I wanted to curse even more because I couldn’t get a good look at him from the angle in the mirror.
He rubbed the head of his cock over my slit and once he squeezed inside of me, I was enlightened with everything I'd wanted to know. God, he was so thick, I couldn’t believe the way he was stretching me out.
Once Pete started shifting into me, I felt a little delirious.
He felt so big, like he was really testing the limits of my body. I love Michael but he was usually nothing to write home about in the bedroom.
One of his hands gripped my hip and the other ran up my back and curled around my neck. He held on tight and started pushing me down harder onto his cock as he thrust harder and harder. I could barely stand it.
We made eye contact in the mirror and a crooked smile crept over his face, “I want to know how wet you get when you come,”
Pete tightened his grip on my neck and slammed me down hard onto his cock and my entire body jumped.
I couldn’t hold it back. I didn’t want to. My eyes rolled back and my muscles tensed up so much it almost hurt. My legs shook a little and I hoped beyond hope that my knees wouldn’t buckle. The pleasure in my body had finally taken over and I was at it’s mercy. The soft, wet walls inside my core fastened up around Pete’s manhood and gripped him tight.
"Fuck," He groaned so low, it was almost a growl as his hips jerked into me. I could feel him pulsing violently with each eruption as his cock pumped me full of hot, sticky spurts.
Pete panted over me and kissed my shoulder.
The door swung open.
It was Henrietta.
She looked at us, Pete still deep inside of me, his lips on my skin, and me a total wreck from having one of the best orgasms of my life.
She rolled her eyes, “Fucking hell,”

Welcome to Letters2fiction!
The concept here is to send in a question or a letter request, and you’ll get a response from your fictional character of choice, from the list below. Please stick to the list I’ve made, but of course, you can ask if there’s some other characters I write for, I don’t always remember all the shows, movies or books I’ve consumed over the years and I’m sure I’m missing a lot 😅

I love love L O V E snakes, so this ask was so fun! I hope it’s what you were looking for!

~~~~~~
Michael:
- Michael is the most unphased by the fact you have a snake
- He had come to your house to paint with you, an activity you have done for years
- He waltzed into your bedroom, only stopping when he sees you sitting cross legged on the floor, looking down at the space infront of you
- He took notice of the beautiful California King snake lazing around, watching as it slithered towards you
- “Oh… you have a snake now. Wicked”
- He listens as you tell him all about your new pet, affectionately refered to as ‘Snakey’
- Snakey took a liking to Michael, shown by when the reptile slithered its way into his hand, curling around his fingers and taking a nap in your boyfriend’s hold
- Michael was impressed by your pet, referring to him as both of y’all’s kid
- He’s gonna spoil that snake more than he spoils you, even though it’s hard to top that
Pete:
- Nope
- Nope
- NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE
- Burn the fucking house down
- Pete is not a fan of snakes
- Not even the harmless little Western Hognose you’ve had for years
- Everytime he comes to your house, he demands you put ‘Hoggy’ away before he steps foot into your room
- It didn’t matter if Hoggy has never bit you, it was still a snake and Pete despised snakes
- The only way you could ever convince him to even look at your pet was if you stayed 10 feet away and held it close to you
- He didn’t mind if you had Hoggy, of course he’s not gonna make you get rid of him
- But if you ever pull Hoggy out of his enclosure, Pete’s going to magically have something to do until you let him know that Hoggy has been recaged
Henrietta:
- Henrietta is excited
- She’s a fan of all creepy crawlies, and your Ball Python was her latest obsession
- Everytime she goes over and ‘Mr. Slithers’ is out, she’s going to pick your snake up and watch in childlike fascination as the reptile wraps around her arm
- If you ever need someone to watch Mr. Slithers while you’re out of town, Henrietta jumps on the opportunity
- She sends you pictures of outfits or hats that she’s made for the python, most of the time while the clothes are on the snake
- Henrietta has definitely thought about getting one for herself, but when she has you, she knows that all she has to do is ask to babysit Mr. Slithers
- She jokes about having joint custody of the snake, but you aren’t even sure if that’s a joke anymore
- She’s turned all of her attention of your pet, how mean of her 🥲
For Ytasha Womack, the Afrofuture Is Now
The writer and filmmaker discusses the blend of theoretical cosmology and Black culture in Chicago’s newest planetarium show.
Ytasha Womack, a screenwriter on “Niyah and the Multiverse,” currently playing at the Adler Planetarium in Chicago, is the author of numerous works including “Black Panther: A Cultural Exploration."
By Katrina Miller, New York Times, March 16, 2024.
On Feb. 17, the Adler Planetarium in Chicago unveiled a new sky show called “Niyah and the Multiverse,” a blend of theoretical cosmology, Black culture and imagination. And as with many things Afrofuturistic, Ytasha Womack’s fingerprints are all over it.
Ms. Womack, who writes both about the genre and from within it, has curated Afrofuturism events across the country — including Carnegie Hall’s citywide festival — and her work is currently featured in the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture. Afrofuturism is perhaps most popularly on display in the “Black Panther” films, which immerse viewers in an alternate reality of diverse, technologically advanced African tribes untouched by the forces of colonialism. (In 2023, Ms. Womack published “Black Panther: A Cultural Exploration,” Marvel’s reference book examining the films’ influences.)
But examples of the genre include the science fiction writer Octavia Butler, the Star Trek character Nyota Uhura and the cyborgian songs of Janelle Monáe. Some even envision the immortality of Henrietta Lacks, a Black woman whose cells were taken without consent for what became revolutionary breakthroughs in medicine, as an Afrofuturist parable.
Ms. Womack was one of the scriptwriters for “Niyah and the Multiverse.” She spoke with The New York Times about what Afrofuturism means to her, the process of weaving the genre’s themes with core concepts in physics and how the show aims to inspire. This conversation has been condensed and edited for clarity.
How do you define Afrofuturism?
Afrofuturism is a way of thinking about the future, with alternate realities based on perspectives of the African diaspora. It integrates imagination, liberation, technology and mysticism.
Imagination is important because it is liberating. People have used imagination to transform their circumstances, to move from one reality to another. They’ve used it as a way to escape. When you are in challenging environments, you’re not socialized to imagine. And so to claim your imagination — to embrace it — can be a way of elevating your consciousness.
What makes Afrofuturism different from other futuristic takes is that it has a nonlinear perspective of time. So the future, past and present can very much be one. And that’s a concept expressed in quantum physics, when you think about these other kinds of realities.
Those alternate realities could be philosophical cosmologies, or they could be scientifically explained worlds. How we explain them runs the gamut, depending on what your basis for knowledge is.
Which Afrofuturist works have influenced you?
I think about Parliament-Funkadelic, a popular music collective of the 1970s. As a kid, their album covers were in my basement. A lot of artists during that era — Herbie Hancock, Miles Davis, Earth, Wind & Fire, Labelle — had these very epic, Afrofuturistic album covers, but Parliament-Funkadelic sticks out. There’s one depicting Star Child, the alter ego of George Clinton, the lead musical artist, emerging from a spaceship. That sort of space-tastic imagery was abounding for me as a kid.
“The Wiz,” a reimagining of “The Wizard of Oz,” was on all the time in my house growing up. It had this fabulosity to it — a heightened dream world that reflected 1970s New York. You had the Twin Towers in Emerald City, the empty lots Dorothy walked through with all the trash, the Wicked Witch running a fashion sweatshop, representing the garment district. The film took an urban landscape and made it fabulous, tying in this theme of Dorothy coming into her own through her journey.
Those are images that had a very strong impact on me. As I matured, I got into house music and dance, and began to see relationships between rhythm, movement, space and time. It’s not always something I can give language to, but it’s certainly become a basis for how I talk about metaphysics, in a physical kind of way.
What inspired your team to create “Niyah and the Multiverse”?
We wanted to tell a story about a young girl named Niyah, who wants to be a scientist and who is figuring out who she is — not just on Earth, but also in the universe.
Niyah looks for insight from her grandparents, who explain some of the symbolism of the African artwork in her home. She thinks about concepts she has learned from her science teacher. And she even meets her future self, who is a theoretical astrophysicist. Together, the two explore some of the more popular multiverse theories that scientists are looking at today.
Which theories are those?
Niyah learns about the many-worlds theory, which is this idea that all of your choices evolve into different universes. The choices you make create new paths, essentially creating multiple existences of yourself.
She learns about bubble theory, which says that after our Big Bang, more universes sort of bubbled off, each with their own laws of physics. Niyah also explores the idea of shadow matter, in which particles get reassembled as similar entities in mirror universes.
So there’s this parallel between Niyah learning about the multiverse and also exploring her own identity through her ancestral heritage.
Right. Because both of these are paths of meaning, different ways of understanding who we are. Afrofuturists tend to think in a way that is accepting of a lot of different realities anyway, so it was a pretty seamless experience to weave the physics and other aspects of the genre together. There’s already this intergenerational, or interdimensional, element to the conversation and the art that comes out of it.
The show is presented in the planetarium dome, which has a 360-degree screen, so it’s very immersive. Stepping into the space and watching the show feels like an interdimensional experience of its own.
The first audience to see it had a very emotional response. Some people were crying. There were Black women in the audience saying they always wanted to see this kind of imagery, that they had wanted to be scientists at one point in time. Others were deeply touched by the vibrancy of the show, of how it was able to bring these multiverse theories to life.
It’s impressive that these physics concepts, which can be difficult for people to understand or relate to, are made so accessible with examples that are not only imaginative but very rooted in Black culture.
Right. And it wasn’t difficult for us to do that, because as Afrofuturists, we operate in that space. It’s just about mirroring a way of being that we have always been immersed in.
I think “Niyah and the Multiverse” expresses that we all have different relationships to space and time. We are all looking to understand who we are, where we come from and where we can go in this broader space-time trajectory.
And maybe for some, the show normalizes the idea that there are kids who are Black who dream and are curious about the world. That curiosity can take them in the direction of becoming an artist, or becoming a scientist.
What challenges did you face in tackling the multiverse?
In trying to write some elements of the story, we had to push our own imagination to come up with what a universe might look like if you’re not using the laws of physics that exist in this one. Like, what does it mean to have your particles reassembled into something else? Sometimes we’d come up with ideas for different worlds, and our science consultants would say that already exists.
For me, this shows the beauty of bridging art and science. Artists can give visuals and narratives to ideas that scientists come up with. Or it could happen the other way around: Artists imagine something, and scientists think about what might be needed to support a universe that looks that way.
Key: * = Reread ^ = Nonfiction ~ = Read with Empty % = Novella #= Doc book club
My goal for 2024 is for 40% of my reads to be nonfiction. I've had two years within the recent past where I managed 20% of my reads to be nonfiction, so I'm aiming to double that. THIS WILL BE HARD FOR ME! Not because I don't enjoy nonfiction but because I enjoy fiction a lot more and have a lot more practice reading it. Haha Also for me, I am in circles where I'm just going to have more awareness of fictional books that I'm likely to enjoy more so than nonfiction. I'm kind of hoping that this years journey will change that a bit too!
Okay, below the cut I'm putting the nonfiction books on my tbr, most of which I have the lovely people of Tumblr to thank for the recommendations!
1968: The Year that Rocked the World
The Age of Wood; Our Most Useful Material...
Salt: A World History
Sea Biscuit: An American legend
Searching for Black Confederates
The Writing of the Gods: The Race to Decode the Rosetta...
I will actually add to this list as I get more recs and whatnot. And I still have some coming which I ordered from Thriftbooks. Once those are here, I'll add those. I'm a little sad there aren't more memoirs, but there's plenty of time for that yet! This is already 37 books, and given lately I've been reading about 70 (nonfiction may slow me down tho), these should give me plenty of ability to reach my 40% goal. Now it's just a matter of if I do it XD
Can I ask for a theme song for each of your Steps? For no particular reason at all, just because they are great and I love them a totally normal amount.
NAME: Mephisto’s Repository
LOCATION: Amity Road
This wasn’t the first store in Wicked’s Rest to attempt hawking supposedly magical artifacts, and it surely won’t be the last. That said, there is something special about this place, but it isn’t immediately obvious to anyone who’s not already in the know. What the untrained eye sees is a dimly lit shop filled to the brim with curious oddities, all boasting some sort of curse—malevolent and silly sit side by side on the haphazardly packed shelves and tables. The items are meant for collecting, not using, so the descriptions are quite honest and blunt. Purchase at your own risk, keep dry and out of reach of children, et cetera. The décor ranges from macabre to downright obscene, which explains the sign posted in the window that says ‘Minors not permitted’.
A small, rotating cast of strange individuals are the ones that run the actual shop. There’s Ichabod, Henrietta, and Orville, each with their own brand of weirdness that helps them fit right in with the establishment’s peculiar vibes. The owner, Chuck Jones, spends most of his time in the back with the special clientele, but he can be seen wandering the storefront now and then, rearranging the displays and changing the prices of things.
If you purchase something from the Repository, there is a strict no-refunds policy. If you try to return it anyway, you might walk out of the shop a little more hexed than you were when you walked in. It’s in your best interest to just keep whatever you bought and deal with it.
The actual purpose of this store is a bit more clandestine, but it’s enough to ask to see Chuck or to be taken to the back—there’s not a secret password or anything, that would be ridiculous. After being asked a series of questions to get a bead on your needs and whether or not he can help you, Chuck will hash out the details with you then and there. You’re then asked to come back in about a week to give him time to draw up the contract, which you will be required to sign. It’s all very above-board.
There’s a badalisc named Gabagool in the back room that loves to spend its time chatting up the people that come for magic deals, pining for the hot goss of the week. It’s harmless (if a little annoying), but Chuck seems pretty attached. He might even be using it to dig up information on potential clients, but who could prove that?
PLS MORE LESBIAN HENRIETTA I LOVE HER
I LOVE HENRIETTA AND I WILL GIVE MY LIFE FOR HER TO BE REAL AND IN MY ARMS RIGHT THIS MOMENT
She’s just so feisty but it’s so endearing 😩
I hope you enjoy!
~~~~~~
The sun shined brightly through the dark curtains, casting beams of light across the silent room. The only sound emanating from the room were the soft snores of the two figures fast asleep in the bed. Two figures that came together as one, their arms and legs curled around each other, bodies almost impossibly close as they slumbered away, seemingly unaware of the world outside of their dreams. The room was warm, comfortable and it seemed like time stood still in that very moment.
A shrill alarm cut through the silence, and it was quickly turned off by a hand that popped out from under the covers. The extremity was quick to snatch itsself back under the covers, but the body it came from didn’t make an effort to sit up from the mattress. Instead, she tucked herself further into the chest of the other figure, indulging themselves in the peaceful morning cuddles they were in. She took in the scent of the woman that was in their arms, a lazy smile crossing her face as she pulled back slowly, careful not to wake the woman beside her.
Moving the covers back, you sat up, rubbing the sleep from your eyes and throwing your arms up to stretch your back. Releasing a yawn, you looked down to your side to see Henrietta, whose closed eyes were covered by a purple satin sleep mask. With gentle fingers, you brushed a few strands of her raven locks from her face, smiling down at your sleeping beauty. Removing the covers from your lower body, you gently rotated your body, setting your feet on the floor and standing from the mattress. Grabbing your night robe that was hung on your side of the headboard, you threw it on and quickly tied the string around your waist. Leaning over the mattress to press a soft kiss to Henrietta’s forehead, you silently giggled as she tucked the comforter closer around her.
Making your way around the room, you opened the door and stepped out into the hallway. A shiver rolled through your body, goosebumps raising over your skin as the cool air hit your frame. You stifled another yawn and you began your trek to the kitchen to put on a pot of coffee and start on breakfast. When you arrived to your destination, you started the coffee and then bumbled around, grabbing the ingredients to begin making pancakes. Turning to the bluetooth speaker that was resting on the counter of the kitchen, you opened your playlist of 80’s music that you curated with Henrietta and set the volume low enough to not disturb her.
Humming to a random Queen song that was playing, you began stirring together the ingredients for your breakfast, hips and shoulders bouncing periodically to the tune of the song playing. Moving to the pan you had placed on the stove, you began pouring in some of the batter, making a few different piles of pancakes before setting the bowl down. The song ended and changed to Cyndi Lauper, and you could help but begin singing to the tune, throwing a mini dance party in the kitchen as the pancakes began to turn a golden brown. Grabbing your spatula, you flipped the cakes over, smiling as you managed to not mess one up like you normally did. Just as you set the spatula down, you felt a pair of arms come from behind you, wrapping around your stomach and squeezing you gently.
You knew Henrietta had finally woken up without even having to look at her, and you shimmied yourself around until you were facing your love. Her sleep mask was pulled up, brushing her bangs out of her face. She had on her satin robe, the fabric slipping off one of her shoulders and exposing the strap of her night gown. Her hair was a messed, standing wild with stray wisps surrounding her head like some kind of wicked halo. You smiled warmly, cupping her face and pressing your soft kisses all over her skin. Henrietta let the assault happen, a laugh beginning to spill from her lips.
“Good morning, darling.” you whispered, pressing one last, chaste kiss against her lips. Your girlfriend hummed, grabbing 2 coffee mugs and making a beeline to the freshly brewed pot of coffee. You turned back to the stove, worried that you were burning your breakfast, sighing in relief when you saw that they had just finished cooking. Sliding them from the pan to a serving plate, you turned the stove off, placing the rest of the batter into the fridge and grabbing two plates and forks before making your way to the dining room table with the fluffy cakes. Setting the table, you filled your’s and Henrietta’s plates, setting them down beside each other. The ravenette appeared from the kitchen holding the 2 coffees in one hand, and a bottle of maple syrup in the other.
Sitting beside you, she placed the items in her hands down, moving your coffee cup to your area before wasting no time in digging in, a noise of satisfaction coming from her throat as she indulged herself in your food. You giggled, pressing a kiss to her temple before tucking into your own plate, wolfing down the hotcakes happily. Finishing rather quickly, the two of you reached for your coffees, enjoying the first sip of the liquid gold maybe a little too much. Taking a moment to let everything settle, you scooted your seat back, collecting all of the used dishes and making your way back to the kitchen. Henrietta followed like a lost puppy, much snugglier in the morning than she was when she was fully awake.
Setting the plates in the sink, you heard “Maneater” from Hall and Oates begin to play on the radio, a smile splitting your face as you turned to look at Henrietta. She shot you a playfully annoyed look, shaking her head. Grabbing her hand, you pulled her into the middle of the kitchen, wrapping your free arm around her waist, placing your hand on the small of her back before you began to sway gently with her to the music. Her arm wrapped around your shoulders, and she followed suit. This was the song that played on your first date with her. You deemed it your song, and even though she pretended to hate it, you’d walk into her office and hear her humming the chorus, a groan rising from her throat at the aggravation of the song being stuck in her head.
Back to the present, you rested your forehead against her’s, mumbling the lyrics while looking into Henrietta’s, pressing soft kisses to her lips with every instrumental break and just reveling in the tender moment that you were sharing with her. She returned your affections, reciprocating your kisses with tenderness, nuzzling her nose against yours. As the sun rose higher and the song began to end, you stayed like this in the kitchen, thankful to whomever made it possible you were sharing your morning dance party with the woman in your arms.

Day 1 - Sessanta Mid West America Tour 2024
Canadian Rockies to WhiteFish, Montana
Day 1
Truly I would say that my vacation feeling started the night before on April eleventh.
Friends of mine who are well adept at being nomadic travellers, managed to hitch their way out to Canmore - the gods favored them with timing that lined up for us to be able to hang out before I left for a 3 weeks. We broke bread, ate cheese ( the saucy kind) and shared some homemade wine together. It is a blessing to see these wonderful people when we happen to be in the same area. I value greatly getting to be able to spend time with them.
But after socializing, it was time to finalize packing and try to sleep.
I always find it difficult to sleep the night before an adventure due to the energy of sheer excitement. I did manage to get a few hours in but my eagerness had me naturally bouncing out of bed at ungodly hours of the morning.
Tumblr media
I use the extra time to treat myself to some self care at my second hand vanity (That I got for free - of course).
The day's agenda for my trip included a pit stop across the border to pick up a few supplies. Then, head to Whitefish to check in to Grouse Mountain Lodge.
And so the Adventure begins!
Tumblr media
Grouse Mountain Lodge is part of the pursuit collection thus I saveth the moneyth a-la mouldy purse style.
Tumblr media
Along the way the route through BC, in Radium, I saw a lot of big horn sheep. All I could think about was my sister when we were in the Yukon together and that she just really wanted to see one of those curly horned. It looks like She'll just have to sacrifice herself And enjoy some hot spring soaking in radium with me so that she can see some curly horn sheep up close.
Tumblr media
I had thought that perchance I may have gotten a photo of them curly cues as I had set up my camera for a time lapse while driving out of Radium.
However of course the camera time lapse snapped intervals rather than video and so this was the best shot I have.
Tumblr media
Lesson Learned to not timelapse but video instead.
I was really amused when hitting the border crossing for the United States at how many roaming wild turkeys there were....I wasn't expecting that.
Tumblr media
My first stop was in Eureka, Montana to pick up some supplies.
Tumblr media
I definitely could feel my muscles clenching over confederate flags being around..
Tumblr media
I try to hope that the business i supported were not the ones hanging up that stuff as they share a building, but my intuition has sinking sentiments.
Onwards to Whitefish!
I arrive to the Hotel and check in.
I am blessed with what I see as a lucky room number! Good Juju awaits me on this trip!
Tumblr media
Also, holy geez - It's April and it's already Banff Summer Weather here! I think I may have packed clothes that are too warm for this Trip.
Tumblr media
No rest for the wicked; for Day 1 I booked myself a seven thirty ticket to a theatre performance put on by the Whitefish Theatre Company.

" Silent Sky - The True Story of Women Who Mapped the Stars."
" When Henrietta Leavitt begins work at the Harvard Observatory in the early 1900s, she is not allowed to touch a telescope or express an original idea. Instead, she joins a group of women “computers,” charting the stars for a renowned astronomer who calculates projects in “girl hours” and has no time for the women’s probing theories. As Henrietta, in her free time, attempts to measure the light and distance of stars, she must also take measure of her life on Earth, trying to balance her dedication to science with family obligations and the possibility of love. In this exquisite blend of science, history, family ties, and fragile love, Silent Sky follows the true story of a passionate young woman who must map her own passage through a society determined to keep a woman in her place."
I have to say that I am so glad that I attended this opening night!
I haven't been in a small intimate theatre like that in a very long time. It brought me a lot of sentimental value & nostalgia.
Handmade sets, proximity to the stage, actually painted scenes! At my ownArts institution, a lot of theatre work is being pushed into 3d printing, collapsible sets, or no set or painting at all ; entirely 3d mapping projection. While those in and of themselves have their own values and merits for labour, I really value seeing those old school art forms still existing in theatres. That eople still get to work in those other domains. I know all of it comes down ultimately to money. But they are certainly different feeling qualities to them all.
Honestly, this show was extremely well written. Not just myself, but the whole audience laughed a lot. I was moved to tears several times not just from laughing so much but also because of the deep emotions that were brought up in me. (And you know I hate being emotional public.) Uncontainable public emotions are truthfully one of my gauges for exceptionality in a work. To me, something is so good that I cannot keep my emotions from spilling outward.
I wrote most of this day out by voice to text because the show ran till 10pm. By the time I got back and cleaned up, admittedly, I was very tuckered.
Let's look forward to tomorrows adventures!
P.S I know some of you are thinking "Jen, how dare you travel alone and film and take pictures simultaneously." I'm here to affirm to you that I'm driving and my camera is on the dash or some other location in the car, hands off, recording while I am driving. I am NOT distracted driving. I edit out me being parked to setup an angle to record.
