The Sanctuary's door opened just as Henry glanced up, and in walked the biggest smile and the sweetest face he'd ever seen (and he'd seen more than his fair share in the café). Pushing Kate and Will out of the way, he all but vaulted over Nikola (covering a shift for Magnus because he'd do anything for her) to get to the cash drawer, half slipping as he landed, with Smiley Lady watching (and giggling). Smiling back, he said, "Welcome to The Sanctuary, can I have your number please?" before realising the words were already rushing out of his unfiltered mouth and not the words he was meant to use when greeting a customer, cute or otherwise.

(But it was ok; she gave him her number, and her name to go with it.)

Sanc(tuary) Weekly

A weekly writing game for the Sanctuary fandom, where anyone is welcome to participate!

Outline:

At the start of each week duration, a participant will start a brand-new fic for the Sanctuary fandom!

From there, everyone who wants is free to reblog it with their own addition and so forth to make a story. Stories can continue being reblogged/written after their initial week, but a new fic will start the following week, with a new person starting as determined by the wheel spin. Wheel spins will be performed by sarcasticsciencefictionwriter two days before the next start date. The chosen person will be alerted via private messaging or askbox.

Rules:

1.Be respectful. Don't complain where someone takes the story, critique their writing, etc.

2. No ship or character bashing. Ties in with the above rule. If someone brings in a ship or character you don't like, don't turn the story into how to destroy that ship/character in favor of another. Go earlier in the reblog chain and continue the story from there instead. (We want everyone, including non-Teslen shippers, to feel welcome and participate)

3. Keep it safe for work. Again, on the principal of everyone feeling welcome, NSFW content is not allowed. (If you do want to take it that way, keep it outside the chains and make a new post for yourself)

4. Do not reblog from yourself. Feel free to hop in multiple times on one story/chain, but don't turn the story into a one-person show. Let everyone have fun. [Edit: You may reblog from yourself after the initial week has passed for each story]

5. Use the Tag #sanc weekly writing Mostly for original posters/chain starters, so we can all find it easier, but it would be helpful if everyone did as well.

Henry/Abby, school teachers setting. 👍

For a long time it’s nothing: a lingering glance into her classroom as he walks down the hallway (she’s brilliant with the little ones, bright and glowing and beautiful, and he could watch her all day long if he didn’t have a room full of fifth graders down the hallway with very little impulse control and a gift for making messes), a soft conversation by the water fountain, and shy waves that make him wonder if he looks as ridiculous as he feels. 

Then, it’s lingering after school to walk her to her car (she regales him with tales of first graders, he returns it with stories of science experiments gone wrong in class, and they both agree that they wouldn’t trade jobs with one another if their lives depended on it), meeting her on the weekends to grade homework side by side, and telling her every broken secret part of himself, amazed when she does the same to him. And in that-somewhere between the first shy smile and a glittering diamond ring-nothing becomes everything.

Okay, 3x15 was fun. Double date gone wrong, Erika and Abby bonding, Henry being a number one fan of his awesome girfriend, Will and Abby being cute. All of them being cute with each other, actually. I can definitely see all of them being good friends in the future.

Oh, and montages. Lots of them. And I love a good montage haha.

I wish we had this episode before we had 3x13. It would've worked better for the gradual development of Will and Abby's relationship. You know, so that it's "cute double date that did not go according to plan" first and "a perilous situation where we are ready to die for each other" second? Maybe? I don't know. But I am warming up to them now.

Still wish we had more information about Abby as a character, but at least her and Will make slightly more sense now.

Sanctuary Flash Fic-mas Exchange

Calling all Sanctuary fans! It’s what it says on the tin: I’m going to organize a Christmas Fic Exchange for all fans of the amazing show Sanctuary. However, since a lot of people are busy around this time of year (and because I know I’m kind of late announcing this), this exchange is going to be for flash fanfiction: stories ranging from 400 to 1,500 words. Sign-Ups will be open until November 21st.

Assignments will go out within the week afterwards, as soon as I can arrange them all.

Fics should be finished by December 25th. This is open to all fans of Sanctuary, and all ships. I’m sure nobody will be upset if you write more, however, in the interest of fairness, I will ask you to try to keep your writing within the word count parameters.

From those signing up, I will need:

sent to me either here on Tumblr (likely best via chat/private message, in case Tumblr swallows asks) or via Discord (again via private message; I’m in both the Sanctuary and Amanda Tapping servers as “Rinari”)

"It's not too late, let's go."

Abby blinked at Henry, her eyes aching after the mega sob he'd interrupted (then remained throughout). "What?"

"Let's go? I mean, I can't stop W--" He swerved from the name under the force of her glare. "I can't stop him being a dick but…" The words trailed away.

She looked away, not seeing anything as she thought it all over. Will had arrived back from Bolivia and while Doctor Magnus warned he'd be different, Abby hadn't expected the vitriol that flowed from him. It was embarrassing actually, finding the first hidden corner away from his room and breaking down in tears. Suspects regularly said much worse to her.

But then Henry came along, sat next to her, and didn't flinch when the tears came back full force. Which was weird now she thought about it - he always struck her as a nervous 'ack, stop crying!' type of guy, not this chilled guy watching the door as her heart tried to beat again.

… She could do with going out.

"Are you sure there's an ice cream place open this time of night?" she croaked, smiling. He grinned back. Maybe crying wasn't so bad after all.

Henry blinked, and pointed to himself, as if the whole idea of them going to the movies was a wholly new one on him and not something he'd daydreamed about for the last three months. "Uh… I… uh…” Abby’s face was falling and that wasn’t cool (all his insides were feeling all squirmy and antsy and)-- “Sure! Yes, yes I’d like that,” he added, grinning. “What were you thinking?”

Abby’s lips quirked like the corner had a secret; leaning forward, she asked, “How are you with horror films?”

Henry/Abby, mundane AU? (Take that whatever direction you want! I'd just love some Henry/Abby fluff in a world with no Abnormals. 👀)

I hope this fluff pleases you for it pleases me (they're so cute and squidgy).

For a second date this was actually pretty chill: movie, dinner, and talking for hours. Henry had never imagined talking (and listening) so much in his life, but something about sitting in the dark play park with Abby, swinging idly back and forth on the swings with her, made everything easy. As the air got colder and the starlight twinklier, he named each constellation, wrapping his arms around her to point them out, knowing full well she knew them all too but enjoying their moment beneath the stars.

“Hey, I just wanted to tell you, I’m a complete Trekkie too,” the girl announces, falling into step beside him as they leave the class, and Henry glances at her, trying to keep his expression from complete bafflement. 

He’s seen her in passing before-the sunshine blonde with a bright smile for everyone and a crowd of friends hovering around her-but from past experience, he’s learned not to look too long at girls like her. And now she’s talking to him with ease, grinning like they’re sharing a secret? Besides, when did he ever say anything about liking Star Trek? 

Apparently his confusion shows, because after a moment, her cheeks dust pink. “Sorry, I just-before class, when I came in, I saw that you were reading fanfiction on your phone.” Well, that’s beyond mortifying, but before he can piece together a reply, she adds, “I’ve read that one, too. It’s really good, right?”

Okay, so, to recap: pretty girl is chatting with him like they’re old friends about Star Trek fanfiction? He’s definitely being pranked. But she seems impossibly warm and sincere. 

“Yeah, it’s good,” he says finally, tentative, half-expecting her to laugh in his face and call psych. “I just watched that episode again, so-” 

“Oh, yeah.” She nods, completely serious. “You have to read some fix-it fic after. Hey, I have to go, but do you want to study for the test later?” 

He blinks at the change in subject. “I mean, I was planning on it...?” 

The laugh that bursts from her is loud and full. “I meant with me, dork.” 

Dork. He’s been called that before, by girls who looked a lot like her, but never like this. Never when they’re wanting to spend time with him, to study with him and talk about fanfiction. Hesitantly, he grins back. 

“Oh, in that case, yeah. That sounds good.” 

(And if they pause halfway through their study session to binge some Star Trek, well, who could blame them?)

Single Parent Au, James and Helen?

(*Finally gets to write my Abby-as-James’-Daughter plot bunny*) 

“Henry!” Abby squeals, running as fast as she can across the concrete Sanctuary floor, tackling poor Henry in a hug that sends them both flying to the ground. He’s wide-eyed, but tentatively pats her on the back. He’s still wild as the moors Helen found him in half the time, but she thinks he’s grown to like young Abby’s enthusiastic friendship. 

Helen smiles to herself, shifting Ashley in her arms so that she can easily embrace James. Oh, but she’s missed him quite terribly lately. 

“Is that the baby?” Six years old and as full of life as anyone Helen has ever known, Abby scrambles to her feet, looking up at Ashley with wide eyes. Henry stays on the ground a few seconds longer, as if that simple encounter as left him exhausted. 

“Yes, this is Ashley.” Helen lowers her down a little, letting Abby get a good look. “Be gentle with her, alright, darling?” 

“Yes Miss Helen.” True to her word, she only traces her fingertip along Ashley’s cheek. 

James clears his throat, a warm smile on his face. “I’ll go put our things in our rooms. Excuse me.” It’s oddly formal, and Helen blinks, but doesn’t comment as he steps out into the hallway. Instead, she turns her attention to young Abby. 

“I’m glad you’ve come to visit again, Abigail. It’s been far too long. Though I wasn’t expecting you for several months yet.”

She shrugs. “Daddy’s going to ask you to marry him. Can I hold her?”

Helen hardly hears the question, too busy trying to process the first part of the child’s words. James is intending to propose? Certainly their friendship has fallen back to the romance they once shared a few times recently, but she hardly expected-

“Miss Helen?”

“Hm. Yes?”

“Can I hold her?” Abby repeats patiently, and Helen forces herself to think. 

“Perhaps later, alright? I think I should speak with your father. Go play with Henry, hm?”

Henry says nothing, just raises his eyebrows, and Helen isn’t altogether sure what he thinks of that, but after a moment he waves for Abby to follow him, and heads toward the living room. Cheerfully, Abby follows, and Helen takes a deep breath, looking at the child in her arms . 

“How would you feel about having a father after all?” Ashley, of course, says nothing, but Helen thinks she’ll be pleased all the same.
