Do you have any body hair or body type headcanons for either England or Portugal?

Hello Anon, in fact yes! I have. I will show you with some art I've made last year. For Portugal:

I would say an inverted triangle torso (big shoulders and small waist); good butts, slim legs. Only a little pubic hair under the tummy and scars in the back (the historical earthquake) and big horizontal scars on the legs (Ottoman's slavery - Sadiq cut his legs off for not kneeling before him).

About England:

Squared sillouette, waist same as shoulders. Not flat butt, but an amazing pair of hips, because he is historically a great horse rider. Also good structure in shoulders and arms (for archery). Freckles (very few and almost unnoticed). Pubic hair same as Port, and some in the chest but he's too pinky and blonde so they're invisible.

So yes, his "twinky" version is funny sometimes, but I don't like it at all. Like all Europeans he is a warrior, so his body is ready (and was formed) for combat always.

In a nations-are-known scenario: yk those videos that are like “hair through the decades” where they do the most popular hairstyles from 1890-2010 on one model. Like that but times a billion. I want magazine style fashion history. I want Georgian era clothes to 1950s retro to armor.

Realistically I think sightings of AFJ would be much more akin to Adam Sandler but in my heart he’s a model. & I also think (again, in my heart,) he has at least close to the ideal male proportions. Maybe not perfect but like… perfectly average while still being considered unique. Just enough wiggle room in the measurements to be uniquely pretty while still conforming to the ideal. Does any of this make sense. What I mean is he’s a good dress up doll and I want to play dress up with him.

Hi, I love this! I have no idea about Adam Sandler (is he not sighted regularly? Is that why he was brought up? Or do you mean he dresses terribly when he's out and about?) but here are my AFJ thoughts in a public AU (which, great timing, I have a fic I'm writing that features that so my brain is SUPER thinking about this).

In terms of public appearances — AFJ is seen out and about a lot. Probably the only one seen around more is Arthur, who is a diplomat and knighted and just a very prolific member of the British government. AFJ, unlike Arthur, is a private citizen, and in fact, his right to criticize the government is literally in the constitution (I want to get more into this at some point but not now), so not only is AFJ seen out and about a lot, he's chatty.

But in terms of his wardrobe — well, my thing has always been that AFJ doesn't give a shit, alas, but also he's... ethereal, and so despite not being fashionable in the traditional way he's a bit of a trendsetter. People will ask him where he got his shurt and his answer will either be the 1800s or an op shop, but he makes it WORK. There's a whole series of coffee table books that's just his wardrobe over the years.

I've mentioned before how in-universe I firmly believe Alfred's considered the most attractive, even among the Nations. I think his face is just... pretty. He looks youthful, with long eyelashes and large, doe eyes. Just androgynous enough to make him look unique, but not teetering towards looking feminine.

Body wise, I actually adore how Hima drew him here —

in that I LOVE the softness of his body even while he looks obviously fit. He doesn't have abs, you can see some softness around his tummy but you can also see that slight hint of muscle there, too, then it curves to his breedable hips. I think this is Al at a 'healthy weight'. In my head, Alfred sometimes loses weight because of disordered eating, both because he's the type of person who doesn't eat when working (canon) and also because he DOES have body image issues that causes him to diet (also canon). Due to the fact Hima has NEVER shown AFJ actually looking overweight while showing him despairing at weighing scales, it really built in my head this idea that Al has some body dysmorphia.

Shit? That got dark? ESPECIALLY because I think this is something the public would notice.

Back to lighter topics - there's an "eco friendly fashion" movement inspired by Alfred's ability to look stylish while also only buying secondhand/keeping clothes for a long time. It's actually very neat! People also acknowledge that Alfred's fashion only work on him because he's so beautiful anything he wears seem chic, but also people do some really cool stuff with secondhand stuff or even like. Making their own clothes. In order to encourage people to do this, they do competitions on best outfits and whoever gets the most votes actually has their outfit worn by Alfred aka LITERAL DRESSING AL LIKE A BARBIE JUST FOR YOU, ANON.

Canonically yes he did. And I'm more than happy to keep that part canon.

It's interesting because I don't know where they would have stood. There isn't much info about their relationship, and the info I can find doesn't come from the most reliable sources. But from what I gather, most English kings were cool with the empire. Henry VIII then came along and shook that up a bit by getting into some heat with the emperor of HRE. England became Protestant while the Holy Roman Empire still had an active struggle between Protestant and Catholicism (Not that England had the greatest grasp on religion considering the flip flopping that would follow, but still, at the time, it sounds like it was a bit more stable than whatever was going on in HRE).

So yes, Arthur would have known HRE. They weren't exactly close, close, but they respected each other for the most part.

I don't think he would have held a grudge. Again, I don't see them being that close when I look at the small pieces of history they have together. He probably pitied HRE. HRE still appeared so young that it was a shame to see him die. But he carried on.

Arthur, like a lot of people who knew HRE were shocked to see him. For a moment, they all thought HRE had come back. But Gilbert introduces him as Ludwig, the representation of the German Confederation. No one dares question him. If anyone did, they did so in private and only got the answer "I don't know." Arthur carried on.

Years and years later, when he falls in love with Ludwig he starts to wonder, at the back of his mind, if Ludwig is HRE. And that leads to more questions: How is he here? Does he remember anything? Do his feelings for Feli still linger? Are those feelings going to cause issue? But also...Back then...Could something had happened between them?

But in the end, those questions don't matter. Ludwig is the one he loves. And if he's indeed the Holy Roman Empire, so be it. If not, so be it. Ludwig is the one Arthur wants to wake up next to in the morning and the one to hold him in the cold of the night, not whoever Ludwig possibly used to be.

When They See Their S/O Crying (Allies)

Headcanons for how I think the Hetalia characters would act if they walked in on their S/O crying.

America: Okay, Alfred would low-key start to freak out a little bit. He's pretty good at dealing with people in general, but that's only when they're in a good mood. He doesn't totally know what to do for someone who's crying. So when he sees your tears, he's a little thrown. His first instinct is to try and make you laugh or smile, and if that fails, he'll realize that whatever is going on is more serious and will wrap his arms around you, telling you, "Hey, it's okay. Just let it out." He really does try. It's just that, surprisingly enough, comforting others isn't always the hero's strong suit.

England: Arthur would immediately take this very seriously, reaching forward to hold your hand with both hands, rubbing his thumb over your skin. He'll look you in the eye and insist on knowing what's wrong. When he doesn't get an answer and you continue crying, he'll gently hold your head and tenderly wipe away your tears, giving you small kisses on your face. He'd also take the time to make you two a pot of tea after you've calmed down a bit, hoping to calm you down even further, as well as get you to explain to him what's going on.

France: Francis's heart will shatter upon seeing your tears, reaching forward to wrap you up in his arms before bringing you down to take a seat with him on the couch. He'd run his fingers through your hair, allow you to press your body into his, and whisper sweet nothings into your ear in French. He'd also hold your hand tightly and bring it up to his chest, as well as kiss away your tears. If you need to vent to him, he'd be all ears, willingly listening to all you have to say. I can also see him playing soft music to try and calm you down.

Russia: If Ivan sees you crying, prepare for him to become the ultimate teddy bear. He'll hug you tightly, wrapping his big, strong arms around you. He'd sit down with you in his lap, practically wrapping his body around yours. I can also see him being the kind of guy to gently sway you to and fro as if cradling a frightened child. It hurts him to see you in any kind of emotional pain, and he wants to do everything in his power to help you. He'd also make you hot cocoa and give you little kisses on the nose after you calm down.

China: Yao is surprised at first, but quickly springs into action. He'd softly grab your arm and gently guide you towards a place to sit down. He'd sit close to you and start rubbing his hand up and down your back. If you need to, he'll allow you to hold onto him as you cry. He'd rest his head on yours and allow you to let it all out. Afterward, I can see him getting you some water to rehydrate with (crying can dehydrate you) and offering to make you a special meal that night to try and lift your spirit. Of course, after you tell him what's going on.

Canada: Matthieu would press his forehead to yours, and softly ask you what's wrong. If you're too upset to answer, he'll just rub his hands up and down your arms while shushing your cries, pressing small kisses to your cheeks and around your eyes, hoping to kiss the tears away. He'd listen to your problems as he preps you some herbal tea in the kitchen. As the two of you sit there he'll take your hand in his, gently rubbing his thumb over your knuckles, smiling at you sweetly.

Russia

He doesn’t dislike tattoos, he just doesn’t… prefer them. It’s very rare that he holds any conservative views, but he does still associate tattoos with “delinquency.”

Of course, that also always depends on what exactly the design is. A compass rose doesn’t bother him, but another man's name would. Something ugly or badly aged would make him cringe, but it wouldn’t be a dealbreaker. Generally, he just likes completely unmarked skin over anything else.

(With one exception, that being if you already have a very “alternative” aesthetic. Then, he really doesn’t care and just thinks they make you prettier.)

If you were to ever get a tattoo for him (i.e., his name, something related to Russian culture,) he would be over the moon! He knows it’s hypocritical, but seeing you be willing to permanently mark your body to show your love for him… makes him go a little crazy.

Germany

Ludwig is a modern man, so that comes with modern sensibilities. It really doesn’t mean anything to him unless it means anything to you. Unless it’s something offensive, he’s not gonna think anything of it.

Although, sometimes when he’s exhausted, he absentmindedly traces the outlines of your tattoos, maybe asking a question or two about what they mean. Generally, he likes tattoos that are supposed to be symbolic compared to your run-of-the-mill fandom tattoos. He believes that if you’re going to mark your body, it should be meaningful.

He might even have a few small symbolic ones as well but is very hesitant to get any more or encourage you to do so either.

If you got a tattoo for him, he would hate it. But, if you brought up the idea of matching tattoos, he wouldn’t be opposed. As long as you’re talking through it together.

France

Oh, Francis would ADORE an S/O with tattoos! He just finds them so pretty and unique, and if you’re more “edgy,” he thinks it’s very, very hot. He’s always had a thing for those buff bikers on TV, even if they completely go against his aesthetics.

He doesn’t have any tattoos of his own, but that’s simply because he thinks it’s a bad idea for an immortal. Otherwise, he would’ve loved to have tons of intricate designs covering himself. But since he’s “too pretty” for that, he’ll just appreciate yours instead.

Like Germany, he would find it a little off-putting if your tattoos don’t mean anything. Not too badly, but enough to make him pause. He loves having pretty things just for the sake of being pretty too, but not… permanently.

He would be up for doing matching tattoos if you were insistent enough, but would prefer if he just designed a tattoo for you instead. That’s much more meaningful to him.

The nations should have the ability to shapeshift, partially due to their inherent immortality.

We obviously know they aren't allowed to die as long as their nation is up and running. But what if the poor little lads are in a situation where their mortal human body cannot live? In your average daily situation, they have their rapid healing capabilities. But say they got stuck at the bottom of the ocean? (Why? Idk, submarine excursion gone wrong maybe?) Obviously they'd die, but if they're stuck under all that water pressure, how would they come back? They couldn't survive unless they change their physical bodies to adapt to the environment. Am I making sense? I feel like I'm not making any sense.

All I'm saying is, if they're not allowed to die, they should be able to shapeshift in order to adapt to conditions their human mortal bodies would not survive.

Ireland Headcanon Masterpost

Part three of creating master posts for my interpretation of certain characters & nations. This time we’re doing the lovely miss Ireland! Who has been occupying my mind a lot recently. Before we get into it, I want to say that I have not been developing Ireland for even half as long as I have been every other character I have. She’s been a floating concept in my mind for years, but I only actually started to develop her properly last month. For most of the time I’ve had her, she’s just been a pretty face and a name, and I’ve been having so much fun actually exploring her. If you enjoy reading her information, I’ve also made posts for Scotland and my OC of Northumbria, both of those posts are going to be much longer than this one is.

I want to emphasise that I am no history expert, and I do not even wish to be associated with historical hetalia. However, as I am from England, it means I am treading a very fine line with my portrayal. That being said, if anyone from Ireland sees this post and takes issue with anything I say here, I encourage you to reach out and correct me! I am still learning, and, as I’ve said before, my portrayal is still very new.

PHYSICAL

Ireland stands at about 5’5, or about 165cm. Making her about the average height for an Irish woman. She still gets teased by Scotland for being “short.”

She has pretty small features. Small, green eyes, a tiny little button nose, and a small mouth with thin lips. She is very pretty, but she still looks quite approachable.

She has long, beautiful ginger hair. It’s pretty wavy, her natural texture is 2c, but she styles it pretty often. Her siblings have always loved to tease her about her hair- the colour and texture- so she’s pretty insecure about it.

She’s very good at styling her hair because of this, though she’s no longer a massive fan of fancy up does. She insists she’s no good on hair that isn’t her own, but she taught most of her siblings how to do at least a plait growing up.

Ireland is covered in freckles, from head to toe.

Her skin is naturally very pale, but it’s also very sensitive, and can turn red pretty easily. She always has to be careful about the stuff she puts on, or else she’ll come out in a rash.

She has a tooth gap between her two front teeth, it represents the River Shannon, the longest river in Ireland.

She has a rectangle body shape, although she used to be a bit curvier when she was younger.

Once rounder and softer, her body still hasn’t returned to how it looked before the potato famine of the 1800s. Her size is far healthier now, but she’s still quite thin and boney. Ireland is not her ideal size, and wishes she could gain a bit more weight to feel more comfortable.

That being said, her bottom is actually pretty plump. Representing the mountains that lie around the edge of Ireland.

Whilst she does like to wear make up every now and then, she’s actually pretty bad at it. Her application can be patchy, and she’s not the best at matching shades. It’s nothing you’ll notice straight away, however, and she genuinely does feel prettier when she wears it.

She has the Triskelion, or the Celtic Spiral Knot, tattooed on the inside of her upper, right arm. The symbol has different meanings depending on who you ask, but she had it tattooed to represent the continuous of life, and moving forward. It was also just a way for her personally to show that she will never, ever let her culture be stripped from her.

PERSONALITY

Ever the extrovert, Ireland is friendly and welcoming to everyone she meets. She has a natural ease about her, and a remarkable ability to make people comfortable around her quickly. Within 2 sentences, you could easily feel as though you’ve known her your entire life. Like you’re laughing and joking with an old friend.

Much like her brother, Scotland, Ireland is remarkable at comedy and making people laugh, she firmly believes a good sense of humour goes a long way. Her humour is a bit more lighthearted and witty than the rest of her siblings.

Ireland shows her affection through teasing and sarcasm. It’s how she jokes with her friends, and the more she teases you, the more she likes you. It could come across as mean, but her tone is usually playful enough to not cause harm.

Her culture truly means everything to her, and she loves sharing it with people. She actually loves meeting tourists, she loves telling them stories of her people, and she actually isn’t opposed to sharing her past with them. She will proudly gives them ideas of other places in Ireland to visit, and things to do, she hopes that everyone who takes the time to come visit leaves happy and smiling, having had a fun, interesting and informative experience.

However, she is also extremely protective and defensive of herself, her culture and her past. After years of oppression, being ignored and spoken over, who can blame her? She isn’t too appreciative when someone speaks on her behalf, she doesn’t like other’s sharing information without consulting her directly. She is vocal, and not afraid to step up and correct people, and put them in their place.

Empathy is where Ireland truly shines. Easily feeling and immediate connection with and understanding for those going through hardship. She will always be an advocate for the underdog, for those whose voices are not being properly heard. She longs to provide the compassion, and the feeling of having someone in your corner, that she lacked when she was suffering.

That being said, she can be very judgmental, and she’s a huge gossiper. She usually attempts to soften it by saying something like “and, god love them” or “god, bless their heart” or “but who am I to judge?” as though she’s not just been talking shit for the past hour.

Ireland cannot hide her feelings, and she doesn’t see the need to. She’s very open when she’s happy, upset, angry etc.

For as open a person as she can be, she still hasn’t quite processed her hurt and her negative feelings correctly. Choosing to brush it off, and pretend she no longer cares. She can grow very resentful because of this, but she absolutely refuses to accept this may be a problem.

Ireland can be feisty and fiery if need be, she knows how to defend herself and she will! She’s never been shy, no matter what, and she won’t let someone walk all over her. She never has, and she never will go down without a fight. She prides herself on this.

Ireland is extremely laid back, she’s not prone to jealousy or possessiveness, and she’s certainly not over-protective about anything. She doesn’t see the point of trying to cling onto someone, it all just seems pointless.

HOBBIES

Ireland is creative mind, and one of her best skills is gold-smithing and her ability to work with metals. She prefers to make her own jewellery, and she loves making fancy and intricate broaches especially. However, she mainly does smaller projects now, as her workshop is merely a cleared out space in her basement. She’d love to find a bigger place to rent out.

You will rarely ever find someone who’s a better storyteller than Ireland, she truly has a way with words. Be it short stories, poems or songs, she excels at it. She absolutely loved to share her stories with her siblings when they were growing up.

Music means a lot to Ireland, she wouldn’t know who she is without it, and as well as writing songs, she also sings. She doesn’t have the best voice, but it’s pretty and melodic. It’s soft and calming, and she has fine technic. But it’s certainly nothing special.

She also plays the harp, which she’s very skilled with.

Ireland loves a party and celebration, and she always goes all in. She seemingly never gets tired, or never needs to go home to rest, she can just keep going.

On a calmer note, she also loves just sitting in a pub and having a few casual drinks. Doesn’t need to be a celebration. She especially loves a proper Irish bar, and she almost has a sixth sense where she can find one wherever she goes.

Speaking of bars, Ireland is pretty good at snooker. She’s no hobbyist though. She and Scotland are at pretty much an equal level, and they’re the only two in the family who stand a chance of beating one another.

She loves a good walk around the countryside, and she’s always driving out of the city to have a stroll. Though she will constantly complain about the sheep blocking the road.

She does boxing, though she’s still a very low level beginner, and definitely not good enough to go up against anyone yet. It was a hobby she picked up a few years back, to try and help her build some strength and muscle.

As well as sharing her own, Ireland absolutely loves taking the time to learn about other cultures of the world too. Every time she has a meeting in a foreign country that she doesn’t visit too often, she tries to see and do as many cultural things as she can outside of work. She absolutely loves travelling.

She adores animals, she firmly believes they’re smarter than humans give them credit for, and she loves to draw them! She’s not the most skilled artist, she really only does sketch work in a sketch book. She rarely attempts to colour in, or smooth out the lines.

Ireland’s favourite, and her comfort show, is Father Ted, she puts it on whenever she’s upset. Without fail, it will always make her laugh, even if she’s seen every episode about 1000 times already.

Ireland enjoys knitting, alongside some of her other family members. She pretty much exclusively knits all of her own cardigans herself.

LIFESTYLE

Ireland uses the human name Saoirse Ó Raghallaigh, which later got anglicised to Saoirse O’Reilly. Between the use of these different spellings, she was forced to take the name Kirkland for a time. She changed it back following independence, but used the new spelling to help blend in with her people.

Irish is her first language, and she is determined to help keep the language alive. She offers tutoring lessons for people (Irish or not) to learn the language. Unfortunately, she’s not the best at teaching.

Alongside Irish, she also knows English, ISL (Irish Sign Language), Latin and BSL (British Sign Language). She knows a little bit of Manx and Scottish Gaelic.

Saoirse currently lives in Dublin. She used to own a farmhouse, but following independence she decided it’d be best to move to the city. She sometimes misses her old house, and you’ll catch her reminiscing on it. She doesn’t hate city life, though.

She is incredibly family oriented. If you ask Saoirse, family always has and always should come first. As the oldest, she helped raise all her siblings the best she could. She always felt closest to Northern Ireland and Scotland when they were growing up, and whilst she & Scotland are still close to this day, things with N. Ireland have been better. Their relationship has recently been… strained, to put it nicely. Saoirse is still waiting for the day when they can be close again. She never has and never will stop reaching out.

Ireland does not have any pets. However, for most of her life, she had a Wolf friend who would always find its way back to her no matter where she travelled. She did not own this wolf, it was free and was part of a pack, however, it was supposedly immortal, like many hetalia pets. It was killed in the 1700s. Ireland has a picture of it that she drew herself hung up in her living room.

In terms of religious beliefs, Saoirse would describe herself as “Catholic Pagan.” She might get some strange looks from foreigners who hear this term, but her religious beliefs combine both Catholicism and Celtic Paganism. She believes in the Lord, and in Jesus, but also believes in and sees traditional folk creatures. She seeks guidance and truth in tales from both religions.

Out of all of her siblings, Ireland is probably the worst driver. She usually is not in front of the wheel when someone else is in the car, because they don’t feel entirely safe in the car when she drives.

Saoirse is so bad when it comes to procrastination. She’s perhaps too laid back in that aspect. She doesn’t like to rush anything, and will continue to push back things she needs to do until she can actually be bothered. If anyone calls her out on it, she’ll blame the weather, saying something like, “have you seen how it’s raining out there? It’s not fit to do anything!”

She has a small fairy friend who lives at the bottom of her garden, named Órlaith, who likes to sneak inside the house and cause trouble when Saoirse isn’t in. Otherwise, you can sometimes see her fluttering above her shoulder. It’s not uncommon for the pair of them to gossip together about certain people they meet.

You’ll never not see her without a cup of tea. She perhaps has too much of it, drinking multiple cups at home, and taking some out with her in a travel mug if she’s going somewhere. If she’s visiting someone, she’ll be sat waiting to be offered a cup of tea. She drinks the most out of the whole family, which drives england nuts. She’ll get grumpy if she doesn’t have a cup of tea on a morning.

I wish there were more disabled Hetalia characters, and I wish the fandom was less ableist. I think it's weird when people headcanon stuff like limb regeneration because it feels so selective. Like, okay, I get it. They've been alive for a long time, and in how many wars? It DOES seem strange that they'd all be able-bodied. But, if for some reason, their bodies are built to maintain "perfect, default" health (which is a flawed concept already as so many people have congenital disabilities and it marginalizes anyone who lives with a disability every day) then why do some of them need glasses? Why do some of them have scars? It's so exemplary of the way people perceive 'disabled' as being an unlivable existence. Physical differences can only go as far as scars or vision, so long as the vision can be mended with glasses, and the scars don't drastically affect the body's shape. It's unfair and biased and something that deserves scrutiny.

Along with that, it shows the bias a lot of people have towards physical disability even if they advocate for people with mental illness. If you believe in them regenerating limbs, then you better not be giving them any mental illnesses! If they can go back to "perfect health" after an arm is chopped off, then they should also, realistically, just not be able to develop PTSD. Because that's not healthy, right? Their brains shouldn't be able to develop things like autism or ADHD or depression or DID because their bodies are simply built to not do that. Do you see the discrepancy here? Do you see why that double standard can only come about due to a subconscious bias against disabled bodies?

In a fandom full of headcanon-heavy depictions, you're really showing your ass if you're trying to be inclusive in every category aside from physical disability. It's just something I want everyone to keep in mind.
