can't believe that skeleman has turned on us, and Halloween Prom is tomorrow.
(what a top-tier UM...we are about to be just totally obliterated in the absolute silliest way. what possible use could this power have outside of bringing us to the brink of utter holiday disaster.)

I believe Bobby is coming back from the dead because I think we deserve to live in a world where Kenneth Choi gets to act his ass off by playing a simultaneously relieved/joyous and angry/furious Chimney, who feels like he has to thank Bobby, but also scream at him until his throat is sore because it wasn't fair to make that decision! he's going to say they should have played rock, paper, scissors and Bobby will chuckle because he thinks he's joking like silly haha Chimney, but Chimney is like "no, we should have discussed it, you died and I didn't even get to say thank you. you died and I owed you a debt I didn't even know about. you let me carry that" and he has to wrestle with the guilt of knowing that Bobby would do that for him, not just theoretically, but actual concrete proof that Bobby would die to save him. which they all know on some surface level that they'd die for one another, but it feels like such a far-off concept until it isn't. but Chimney also has to deal with the gratitude because Chimney is also so incredibly thankful that he didn't die. every step of the way he wanted Ravi, Bobby, Buck, and Athena to commit crimes, because he loves his life and he wants to keep living it. he's so overjoyed that he got to go home to his wife and kid, and that comes with its own guilt because how can he be so happy to be home when Bobby DIED. does that make him a monster? that on some level he's HAPPY that Bobby did that? and now he has to FACE Bobby. so he tries to be the Before Chimney who gets people whimsical gifts, but how do you give someone balloons about choosing your life over theirs? and he spirals because he's different now and Bobby is here and he has so so much he wants to say but all of it feels contradictory and unfair and he would normally go to Bobby for advice. so he does. he goes to Bobby and he says "what would you do, if you were in my position?" and Bobby just says "whatever you need to say or feel, I understand" and that just makes Chimney even more upset because what he needs is for none of this to have ever happened. its like they all got a re-do, but kept the memories and the feelings and now he has nowhere appropriate to put them. anyway, Bobby lives and we get Chimney angst yay <3 forever and ever.

Jeeeezzz guys. It's only been a day and everyone's already sick of your antics. Again. You'd think they'd be more reserved considering what they went through to get here.
But forget everyone else- they just got MARRIED!!! Who can think of anyone else when they're this happy??

so. i know that fighting on the wilson defense squad is a little taboo around here...but i still want to share the germ of a thought that i've had, which i'll definitely expand on in the future.
does anyone hear me when i say that so much of wilson's work is silent and unseen?
i mean this, first, quite literally regarding his practice. it's a rarity, seeing wilson interact directly with his cancer patients without being called in for a consult. we hear about his patients all the time, just not often by name. but whether because we're in house's POV, or because the show aligns with house's belief that "cancer is boring," we don't see wilson practicing oncology that much in the grand scheme of things, even compared to the snippets of ER and surgery life that cameron and chase move on to, respectively.
Tumblr media
house pokes fun at wilson's oncology all the time, and pretty definitively in 2x04 when he makes fun of medical specialists. to house, things are simpler for them; house views them as existing in a box, much smaller than his grand purview over things. wilson's work is relegated away from the main text of the show; he operates in isolation, which hurts in the long run.
wilson's own cancer experience is profoundly impacted by the pain of loss he's endured over the years, watching his patients die. he rattles off their names, their cancers, their ages, and the dates they died to house from memory. we never saw these patients. house probably never did, either, so we can only learn of this pain afterwards. we re-contextualize wilson's emotions and behavior after the fact.
Tumblr media
finally, the work wilson puts into his friendship with house is often invisible. i won't ever paint wilson as the ideal friend - that would completely ruin any interpretation of his character - but i find it disingenuous to ignore the strain house puts on him, however self-inflicted. what starts out as trickles of jokes and subtle hints (the loans), evolves into the season 3 medical license debacle, which evolves into wilson's repeated responsibility for house's mental health (which isn't even mandated by house, but by those around wilson and house), which finally evolves into house attempting to control wilson's last wishes. repeatedly, wilson is nominated, especially by dr. nolan in season 6 and foreman in season 8, to be house's steward, and who else would do it, but him?
Tumblr media
big example: we never see the decision for house to move into wilson's place, but all the energy in the world is put into wilson asking house to leave. it's first presented as a natural assumption, then a mortal sin.
unlike the other characters surrounding house, the origins of wilson and house are usually only hinted at. their history unfolds across the entire show, and that includes the good and the bad parts that are only heard about in passing and in retrospect. at the start of season 5, wilson, at his most honest, breaks the hardest news to house yet - that he's leaving PPTH because of him.
"i've enabled it for years. the games, the binges, the middle-of-the-night phone calls...if i've learned anything from amber, it's that i need to take care of myself."
Tumblr media
again, we learn of this long-term pain afterwards, once house takes a beat to digest it. we re-contextualize wilson's emotions and behavior after the fact.
say what you like about what wilson asked house to do in 4x16 (it kills me, personally). i cannot completely fault wilson for telling house this ^. as much as house needs to change, wilson does, too. amber was right about that. we can gauge the strain that house has in his relationships based on how many work out long-term: one.
and later, funny as it is in the moment, wilson is the one to go to physically check in on house in 7x01 when it was VERY apparent that he should not have gone home alone (not to dismiss foreman's attempt in 6x22 to be there for him, though). house's fake voicemail message attests to this: "if this is wilson, i'm fine, not suicidal, not on drugs, coping very well with the loss of my last patient, so feel free to go about your day without worry."
i understand why he crawled through that window! after six seasons of this, i would have done the same!
Tumblr media
i argue the same about house that i do about wilson - these 2, despite how messed up they are when it comes to human goodness and love - could not do what they do if they did not have the capacity to love. they're both rewarded in their own, twisted ways; house is gratified that, if nothing else, his brain sets him apart and preserves his sense of self, while wilson gets to feel loved in the way he can never quite fulfill elsewhere. does that cancel out the lives they save and soothe along the way?
all of this is to say that it's easy to brand wilson with a red "morally corrupt guy who pretends otherwise" stamp across his forehead because i think that's what house md tempts us to do by mandating how, when, and what we see of wilson's life. trust me - i'm trudging through season 2 right now and fast approaching his rendezvous with grace. but over time, i think the show invites us to treat him with sympathy and nuance in the same way it does house. if we penalize wilson too much for returning to house, and for needing his neediness, that may just imply that house doesn't deserve that sort of love. and we know that isn't the case.
Tumblr media
isn't there more poetic irony than the oncologist getting cancer at hand? what about cancer as the silent-killer? what about cancer eating at every part of the body, slowly, over time? unseen and unheard?

A different kind of nightmare.
#ffxiv#sketch#zenos yae galvus#adventurer zenos#estinien wyrmblood#thancred waters#its literally just his arm and hair but him being there is still important#behold the concept that zenos has suppressed too much for so long#that if his occasional non-final days nightmares are bad enough (or very rare instances when he's awake)#that his body recognizes it as physical pain because he responds to that more than his own emotions (marginally- anyways)#really “just damn why does this hurt” -> is so sad his heart is going “hey asshole listen to me”#meanwhile poor thancred and estinien getting tossed just for using the scion's communal pillow#estinien was already awake but he wasnt expecting to get lobbed#thancred gets to faceplant because he was asleep on his bicep#this entire things spawned from me doing some writing and theorizing#that zenos unfortunately actually has a really good memory#but he spent so much of his life probably repressing a shit-ton that anything he doesn't deem immediately important#just kinda gets caught in the crossfire#so him being with the scions and working through it#he does start to remember- but its horribly jumbled at the beginning#he has vague memories of his “mother” saying some horrible things (it wasn't her but his conscious fills it in to be her)#because I get the horrible feeling he was probably blamed for her death#and (despite even me affectionally referring to him as murder husband) I write that the reason he dislikes killing unnecessarily#is probably lingering resentment over both his own existence and that “he killed” someone#who he later comes to realize loved him#(because I do like writing that carosa did love him for the brief time they had together ;-; and I will continue to do so)#there's also some aether fuckery going on with him but it only adds to the intensity- not just being the sole cause

I think the reason I like Cale so much and that he means just everything, is because his ideals are so close to mine and because he is proof of the kind of person I've always wanted to be.
I basically live by this saying I heard, something along the lines of be the person you wished was there that time no one was. Grow up to be that person who you would have needed that time you were suffering. It's kind of like my life motto. And Cale, he's like the physical manifestation of it.
He went hungry and starved a lot in his life, so now he always feeds the people around him and places a lot of importance on food and proper nutrition, as well as growing up well, and he even wishes the kids would be picky with their food. All his childhood, he was continuously betrayed and failed by the adults around him, who were supposed to take care of him but ended up hurting him so often. So now he's a reliable and caring guardian for all those kids who don't have someone to look out for them. He's never really had a home, and when he thought he did, he lost them one way or another, and he knows what's it like to not have a roof over your head and wander aimlessly without somewhere to go back to. So now he has tons of shelters everywhere, different villas like the one in Harris or the jungle, so that there's a home for him and his allies to return to wherever they go. And when he meets someone who doesn't have anywhere to go, he creates a place for them or takes back the place that was supposed to be meant for them.
When he first meets On and Hong, he feeds them, starting with bread, then meat, then cake, and then even medicinal herbs when he noticed On was hurt. When he met Choi Han, he brought him back so he had somewhere to sleep for the night, had a chance to clean himself up, eat well, and rest properly. When he freed Raon, he healed up his injuries and sent him off., and when he started following him, he always made sure Raon was eating well like with all of his allies. He gave the wolf kids and the tigers a whole neighborhood in Harris village.
He's had his world completely flipped upside down, time and time again, destroyed, decimated. So he saves everyone else's world.
Cale is so special to me, because despite everything he chooses not to be bring harm to people because of the way he had been treated, but to be kind and make it so that the people around him don't suffer like he did.

sorry this is a very silly ask but. asking as a fellow fan of both TLT and TMA: what entities do you think the lyctors would serve?? personally I’m a big fan of Extinction!John, Flesh!Mercy, and Stranger!Cytherea (the not-Sasha parallels are too strong to ignore lol)
Oh boy oh boy!!!
John - I am a huge fan of John as an avatar of the Extinction. There isn't any need to fudge a damn thing. He went through an ascension almost beat for beat identical to an Avatar's, and checks every box we ever saw for the Extinction's domain.
Augustine - Belongs to the Eye. He could never stop looking for the truth, examining every variable he knew and carving away at that niggling doubt, that inconsistency, until he had ferreted out the key to John's most closely kept secret. He trades in secrets with Mercymorn, using them as leverage. If he has secrets all his own we never discover them, but I'm still comfortable aligning Augustine with the Ceaseless Watcher.
Mercymorn - I agree that Mercymorn is the Flesh. Her anatomist's specialization and the power it gives her over bodies would be qualifier enough, but the Flesh also manifests as dysmorphia, the fear of being physically changed, reshaped, and shaped from viscera. I firmly believe that if tma had ever addressed reproductive horror, it would have fallen within the domain of the Flesh. When Mercy delivered the "sample" to Wake, that was in service of the Flesh. The dripping viscera mixed with invitro paraphernalia that creep through the Canaan bubble under Wake's influence are a consequence of Mercy's plan made manifest, and could have been plucked straight from that Fear's domain.
Gideon - We know less about Gideon the First, which makes it harder. Most of the applicable Fears—the Lonely, the Stranger, the Spiral—he is decidedly more a victim than an avatar, but we saw him vividly put the fear of prey in Harrow. Gideon the First serves the Hunt.
Cytherea - She's the Stranger, you're so right! She's not-Dulcinea, of course. A stranger replacing a beloved friend, and no one can tell the difference. The Stranger also covers taxidermy, or, in Cytherea's case, the Beguiling Corpse. And for a hat trick, the Stranger also encompasses performance as the art of lying, a deception that breaks down one's sense of self. Cytherea worked that art on Gideon, apparently just for fun, chipping away at her with pretty stories and sharp compliments until Gideon was ready to die as the perfect cavalier.
I don't know if you meant just God's Duplicious Sluts, the Horribly Old People, but since I'm warmed up:
Ianthe - She's a servant of the Web, The Spinner of Schemes, The Hidden Machination. Power and control, baby. We still don't know what her game is, or how much of what she's done was intentional vs. improvisational, but one thing we do know is that she covets having control over others. She's even described once as a spider (tucked inside a shoe).
Harrow - Deeply embedded in the Buried. When Harrowhark is not crushed by responsibility while literally living in a hole in the ground, she's drowning in salt water and debt.
Thank you for asking, this was a lot of fun!

Post Season 3 AU where, years after his final round as Front Man, Inho hears from an old contact.
The games are being held in South Korea once more, they tell him. The VIPs just can't seem to stay away.
But there's an issue. Their recruitment numbers are low. Players aren't joining up at the same rate that they used to - not even calling the number on the card - and the VIPs aren't happy.
Inho has nothing to do with the Games anymore. But he's intrigued. With the world in disarray, people should be joining. They should be desperate for more money than they can dream of. His old role of Front Man still seems to have a hold on him, because he goes to investigate.
He knows all the Recruiters' old haunting spots, and almost immediately happens upon a recruitment attempt in a cold corner of Ssangmun station.
He doesn't know why he picked that subway station in particular (except that he does. Of course he does) but he's glad he doesn't have to search long. From across the rails, he watches the Recruiter slap a young man around for close to fifteen minutes before finally handing over a very familiar card.
The Recruiter leaves. The young man studies the card, frowning, and and Inho studies him, waiting.
And then a train arrives. Inho curses his luck and tries to catch sight of the young man through the windows and rushing crowd.
He sees him, standing in the same spot, but the young man's not alone. He's speaking to someone.
A man with an umbrella. The umbrella's closed and held carelessly just over his shoulder, positioned in such a way that Inho can't see the stranger's face. But he sees the man's hair - waves of it, a mass of brown fluff that's painfully ridiculous and achingly familiar - and just the corner of one eye, crinkled in a smile as the the stranger holds his hand out to the young man.
With a frown, the young man hands the card over, hesitant. The man with the umbrella slips it into a breast pocket, quick and efficient, then pats the young man's shoulder, leaning close and saying something Inho can't possibly hear in the din of the station.
And then, with one last pat, the stranger sends the young man on his way.
The young man leaves the station with a look on his face that says he doesn't know why he's walking away from the chance of a lifetime. Like he doesn't understand how someone convinced him to turn his back on the Recruiter's promise. But still. He leaves.
Then the man with the umbrella turns, and almost immediately meets Inho's eyes. He smiles. Waves.
Inho is rooted to the spot. He doesn't think he's breathing. The world seems to tilt around him.
Of course, at that moment, the train leaves. Inho continues to stare, as if he can see right through the metal and glass and silent passengers at the man across the station. When the train is finally gone, the platform is nearly empty.
The man with the umbrella has disappeared.
But Inho knows, somehow, he'd just seen Seong Gihun standing across from him, smiling and waving and holding Inho's gaze like no one else ever has.
A dead man. Or a dream.
Either way, Inho thinks, after all these years of wandering in grief and regret, alone and aimless, Inho finally has a goal - an old friend - to track down.

Its so frustrating when you have an OC who you know so well, so intimately that it makes it almost impossible to accurately portray them. Like this stupid idiot lives in my bones, is imprinted on my neurons and I know them at a microscopic level... so why can't I give them life in a way that portrays a sliver of their existence?
