hello! uhm.. sorry for the random ask, but we saw you doing therian HRT comics, and we've been interested in starting a comic for ourselves for a while now. but it seems like everyone's all connected in this shared universe or something and I wouldn't want to write anything incorrect or get in the way of the shared universe or anything... is there some kind of... way to learn things and get started? Sorry to bother, thank you so much

Honestly? While a lot of AHRT stories are interconnected with one another, not everyone in the space knows each other and I'm sure there are already discrepancies between stories!

@nyxisart made a timeline image some time ago that you can work off of (though again, it by no means has everyone included)

And @ariathelamia made a spreadsheet some time ago I think, though I don't know if she ever shared it outside of discord-

But there's basically no real rules when it comes to Animal HRT, at least from how I view it. You can join in on the interconnected web if you want, or you can make your story more standalone!

A depressingly large amount of media has this idea that Character Development means the character in question slowly sloughing off everything that was interesting or spiky or unique about themselves to better approach one of a few acceptable archetypes of Healthy and Emotionally Mature role model material and it's basically universally a downgrade.

Fandom is probably several times worse about this.

Help, I’ve fallen passionately and devotedly in love with Lord Peter Wimsey. What am I to do?!

Well, I hear it’s not a condition that can be cured, but it can be managed?

1. Read - after you’ve done the novels and short stories, Wimsey Papers etc, have you had a look at DLS’ other writings? If you like his voice, I guess you could say you like her voice as well and she does write a good essay. (Of course there’s always the ‘follow-on’ novels by Jill Paton Walsh but tbh they’re not for me, so I have no review to provide!)

2. Watch/listen - the Petherbridge/Walter TV adaptations are generally held to be delightful, in that 80s BBC sort of way. Other earlier filmed Wimseys are around but can be hard to find! Audiobooks and BBC/Radio 4 radio adaptations (which were released on hard copy at one point) also appear here and there, although I’ve not experienced all of those myself yet.

3. Get involved - there’s a treasured little Sayers fandom here on tumblr, and all the high holidays are observed (April Fools, various anniversaries), so trawl the tag and find some delightful people. I confess I’m not generating all that much Wimsey content myself at the moment, but my follow list strews posts about campanology and John Donne across my dash like spring blossoms with reassuring frequency.

Personally what I can't wait for is Savathun not getting the Echo right away, but instead forming some extremely convoluted plan in which WE are the ones who are racing to try to get control of the Echo, but instead play directly into her hands and make it so that she gets control of it without having to hardly lift a finger to prod us in the right direction, and then we spend the rest of the season kicking ourselves because ah shit, she did it again. It's what she deserves <3

i see your trademark as the biggest #1 savathun (and hive) fan. your lore reviews have helped me a lot in understanding the hive better in general. the fanfics you've written makes me feel like i'm actually reading the lore or the hive ruler's memories and your writing style brings a deeper connection that the hive have shown in game. very direct, precise, personal, imaginative, and creative by going beyond sourcing the lore in your works.

i do find it really funny that the like… one piece of descriptive lore about the HIVE is that there is no real way to permanently describe the HIVE because it changes and shifts on a dime whenever the spaceship itself feels like it ;; eldritch abomination of a vessel. low-key gives a guiding through the underworld type vibe and the lantern doesn’t help.

(also literally any version of this is i make/parody is 100% platonic, the musical just has a great score. don’t worry.)

I had a feeling somebody was going to make a stink about this.

1. I age up all characters for my writings. Maybe I should have clarified as such in that specific post, so that's on me. Think of it as Idia giving him upgrades in the future like how he gave him legs for walking idk use your imagination.

2. Ortho is not a baby or a kid. I'm sick of seeing the fandom treating Ortho the same way as Cheka (an actual child). It's been stated during the Ignihyde chapter that Ortho recalls memories from eleven years ago, back when he was five. Meaning he'd be sixteen now (or rather his human counterpart would be). Ortho is literally considered to be on the same level, age-wise as the other first years.

3. The double standard of your last statement kind of makes me question your age, especially since you sent this on anon. So, are you saying that me writing romance or smut of the other underage characters, who are 16-17, is okay, because they are teens, despite still being underage in canon?? I can't help but question if you are a teenager yourself, because that's the only reason I can think of as to why you would make it a point that "Ortho is a kid, not a teen," as if him being a teenager is any better in this situation (which didn't even involve anything sexual fyi).

If you are under the age of eighteen, then you shouldn't even be here, directly interacting with me in the first place. Because if that is the case, then that is a hell of a lot worse than some stupid post about kissing a fictional robot boy on the cheek.

tl;dr Ortho is not a baby or a kid, dude is literally trigger happy if you so much as insult his big bro. I age up all characters, specifically the underage ones. I gave the option to view the post as either romantic or platonic. It was just a kiss on the cheek, nothing spicy. If you are underage, never message me again until you are eighteen years or older.

And if it bothers you so much, then just block my blog and stop exposing yourself to it instead of messaging me on anon.

Hello HomeSweetHive, Love your work. Why do the Black Arms characters In your art have Xs in their eyes (pupils) instead of the normal pupils or the thin, serrated pupils Black Doom or Eclipse have in their stories?

Hi!! Thank you so much for your ask, as that's a fair question! (And thank you for the compliment too, of course!)

The truth of the matter is that the X pupil thing is not in fact just a Black Arms thing in my art, actually! Every character that is from the main dimension (the Chaos Dimension) of my Sonic AU series The Era of Shadow ( @the-era-of-shadow ) has X shaped pupils!

You see, it started as just an artstyle quirk of mine, I drew all of my characters with X pupils as an homage to one of my favorite films, Coraline, which had inspired me to get into art in the first place. (The X was meant to allude to the stitches of the button eyes) On occasion, I'd divert from this to have a special pupil shape for a few characters (example that has lasted to this day; Black Widow -- has heart shaped pupils to represent the way her eternal love for Doom impacts everything she does and is), and I used to have a character design where only one pupil that was unique and the other was the same ol X pupil I usually do. Someone drew fanart of the design and used both pupil shapes -- as if the X pupil was part of the design and not just part of my artstyle.

And that gave me an idea.

For TEoS I decided to actually MAKE it part of the design specifically rather than just the artstyle -- and with that came a bit of lore! Remember when I said "Every character from the main dimension" ? That's because characters from other dimensions, or more specifically different CORE dimensions (a concept that will get explained a good bit further into TEoS) have different pupil shapes. I have a handy chart that I showed off in a post on the TEoS blog ages ago that I will bring back for this post

It's rather old, especially with it using white for the pupils here and not the dark off-black that I use now, but it gets the point across.

What IS exclusively Black Arms, though, is THIS:

An inner lining of the pupil in white! The example here is a character with X pupils, but this trait can be rocked by anyone of any dimension - anyone that has been assimilated by the Black Arms!

The white inner lining is meant as a simplistic visual cue to the "glassy" look of the eyes of those in the Black Arms that's occasionally described in TEoS!

I have! I got it very shortly after it came out, I had a really good time with it. I've been slowly replaying it recently with my partner, they were kind of fond of kirby just by proxy but since we started playing they adore bandee now and say he never gets enough screen time XD I'm glad you also had fun!

it wasn't that people weren't nice where kiera came from, but they weren't this kind of nice. in her tiny hometown, everyone knew everyone and everyone knew everyone's business. you could be polite, but there was only so much of it that could be considered genuine. maybe it was like that here too, but she just hadn't ingratiated herself enough with the community to feel that same underlying animosity. either way, it was starting to rub off on her more genuinely than it had at home. it wasn't going to make it back to anyone that she didn't hold the door for someone and embarrass them at church, she just did it because it was the kind thing to do.

kiera opened doors for strangers now. she'd tried to help someone fix a flat and ended up embarrassing herself. she carried a woman's groceries to her car. she was still working on it, but the freedom and the mountain air was proving to be good for her. still, he called her ma'am and she had to fight the urge to chuckle.

"no problem," sir didn't sound natural coming out of her mouth. she'd tried it a few times. at the club, it all felt like an act and calling someone sir didn't have to feel natural. out here with someone only a few years older than her it felt like muddling her way through a different language. she could accept a drink without feeling like a foreigner though. she nodded and smiled appreciatively at the man, "yeah, that sounds good. i'm kiera, i'm not really from around here." everyone always brought it up, so she'd started opening with it. got that part of the conversation out of the way.
