contains: fluff, but there is slight angst at the beginning. mentions of loneliness, a little depression. slight-ish tension or strain on the relationship, but you know i make it happy at the end lol. language.
Pasadena, California - 1993
Day seventeen on your six week excursion with Eddie. Well, excursion was a generous thing to call what this was. You were feeling more like a groupie for the Indianapolis Reapers, a puck bunny as Eddie’s teammates snickered, brows raised in suggest when they’d pass jersey clad girls lingering around their buses. Stop after stop- press, practice, training, games, all over the nation.
A suitcase full of clothes you’d grown sick of already, longing to go home and trade them for something different, washing them in the sharp, sterile detergent of the hotels. You longed for your own sheets, perfumed with your own detergent.
Eddie was gone for most of the day. You tried to sightsee on your own, explore the cities but it was lonely, lacking someone to giggle with over lattes, to hold your hand in the street, just to talk to. The other WAGS that came along, stuck out the long haul across the states, clung to each other, comfortable in their own little clique. You were too new, an outsider to their group.
“Hey, babe,” Eddie pressed the key into the lock, twisting the heavy latch open. “Babe, do you have that stuff? Did you bring it?” He hummed, dropping his bag at the door, kicking off his sneakers.
His nose curled at the pungent smell, ripe from the warming weather of California. “Jesus Christ, I gotta wash this stuff. I’m sorry, I’ll put it in the laundry thing.” Eddie hummed, sliding the slotted closet door open. “Can’t believe how warm it is here already. Feels so nice outside. You’ve been outside today, sweetheart?” He rambled, sweetly, tossing the powdered detergent into the washer, shoving the workout clothes from his bag into the tiny machine.
The steady hum of the air conditioner filled the room, his only response. Eddie’s brows lifted, jamming the button of the washer, sliding the door back into place. He didn’t remember hearing you say you were leaving today, but he had taken a pretty hard hit to the glass during practice, ears still ringing dully.
“Baby?” Eddie called, opening the bathroom door, empty of you other than the scattered products on the vanity. Heavy steps on the patterned carpet, Eddie walked into the bedroom suite, halting at the edge of the crumpled sheets.
You laid on your side, still in what he’d left you in that morning, eyes puffy and red rimmed looking motionlessly out the window. “Hey, I thought you- I was, uh, I was just talking but-” Eddie’s heart beat in his throat, uneasy at the sight of you, crumpled in the sheets. “Are you ok?”
You turned, cheek still pressed to your arms under the pillow, just enough to see him- all wild curls, matted and frizzy with helmet hair. “Yeah,” You croaked, throat scratchy and sore with sobs that had stilled hours ago, still you were plagued with the aftershocks of weeks of suppressed emotion.
“I- I’m not trying to sound like a dick or anything here, but you’re clearly not.” Eddie said softly, slowly approaching the bed. The bed dipped under his weight, a warm hand rubbing over your ankle under the cool sheets.
“Baby,” Your face crumpled at the coo, so sweet, gentle, it made your nose burn. “What’s goin’ on?” Eddie muttered, thumb circling your ankle bone gently.
Your nose burned with a slow, shaky exhale that he felt, rattled all the way down your body under his touch. Eddie’s heart dropped. “Hey, look at me.” Eddie’s voice was softened but sharp, teetering on frantic. You turned, looking at his wide eyes, running over your frame in worry. “What’s goin’ on? What’s the matter?”
Your lip wobbled, head screaming words you couldn’t bring yourself to say- you didn’t know how to say. “I just-” You took a breath, chest stuttering. “I don’t… feel good.”
Eddie’s brows creased, crawling up the bed beside you. “Don’t feel good, like, sick?” He muttered, the back of his hand pressing to your palm. “You don’t feel hot t’me. What hurts? Is it your head still? I told you, baby, that hippie dippie shit only works so much. You have to take medicine-”
“-No,” You shook your head, eyes squeezing tightly to keep your tears at bay. “It’s-it’s not that.”
Eddie blinked carefully. “What? Is it, like, the time of the month? D’ya need me to go get some stuff for you? You know I don’t mind to. Not a problem for me, baby, just tell me what you need.” Eddie’s head tilted to the side, so sweet and doting, it made your chest heat with swarming guilt and adoration.
“I’m not on my period. It’s nothing, Ed.” You shook your head, curling back into your pillow.
Eddie stilled above you. “Are- Are you pregnant?” He whispered.
“No.” You groaned quickly, head shaking into the warmth of the pillows.
Eddie sighed lightly, a huff of relief that fell short, when your body turned from him, back towards the window with a long inhale. “Hey, can you- can you look at me? Please? Look at me, baby.” Eddie’s pitch raised, teetering towards scared, his hand on your shoulder, pushing you gently so you rolled on your back.
He hovered over you, curls falling down nearly brushing your cheeks. “Tell me what’s going on. Please? Tell me what’s wrong.” Eddie whispered, nearly a beg. “You don’t feel good? You don’t feel good here?” His throat swelled, tight with fear. “With me?”
Your silence had Eddie’s stomach twisting, dropping with fear, bile rising in the back of his throat- he was going to be sick, he was sure he would be.
“No,” You muttered, head shaking lightly under the pillow. “Not with you, just,” You reached up, nervously twirling his curl around your finger. “Just with this.”
Eddie swallowed, willing himself still, calm, though his heart felt like it might give out. “This? Wh-What do you mean this?” Eddie’s voice shook.
You blinked up at him, eyes rounding in a sad softness he hadn’t seen before. “I just… I miss being home.” You whispered, eyes glossing with a fresh wave of tears that pricked your waterline. “I miss seeing my friends, and being in my own bed, a-and even work. I just,” Your breath hitched, lip trembling. “I’m just really lonely.”
Eddie was sure his heart did give out, break right in his chest, sunk right to the pit of his stomach. “Do you- You wanna go home?” Eddie’s hand ran down your cheek gently. “That’s what you want? That would make you feel better?”
Your face crumbled, caved into itself at his tone. “I-I don’t know.” You admitted, eyes squeezed shut to keep the tears in. “I don’t want to leave you, b-but I don’t-” You pressed your palms to your eyes, taking a slow inhale through your nose. “I just don’t want to be alone so much. A-And I know that’s not your fault. I know you’re working.”
When your eyes did meet his, Eddie wished they’d stayed closed, heartbreakingly sad, vacant of that light that usually shone through, brightening anything cast in your gaze. “I just… I’m feeling homesick, ‘m sorry.” You muttered. “I just really miss home, and I’m having a bad day.”
“You don’t- Don’t apologize.” Eddie shook his head. “I-I’m sorry. I didn’t know you were feelin’ like this.” Eddie swallowed, pulling you up gently. Your body was slack, limp with unmotivated movement, but still, you settled into his arms. The tension in your body melted, nose buried in the material of his shirt, lathered in cologne and the hot California air.
“I have a half day tomorrow.” Eddie muttered, his heart beating fast, you could hear it, feel it. His hand smoothed up your back. “We’ll do something. Go exploring and stuff. Do some fun stuff.”
“You’re ‘sposed to rest.” You muttered, cheek squished to his chest. “It’s before your game, you’re supposed to be resting.”
“Yeah, but that is resting.” Eddie shook his head gently. “I’ll be alright. Promise. Played after way worse. Me and Josh used to come in hungover, vomited on the ice one time.” Eddie’s chest rumbled with soft laughter. “Pretty sure we’re the reason that rule’s in place now.”
Your lips curled, even through your sullen, dazed mood, you couldn’t help it. Clinging to him tighter, you moved into his touch. “Coach just means take it easy like, don’t go get fucked up and actually sleep the night before.” Eddie muttered, chin tucking down onto your head. “C’mon, lemme take you out tomorrow. Me and you. Go anywhere you want.”
You didn’t reply. Instead, sighed gently, settling into his hold.
Tumblr media
Eddie was restless through all of morning practice, hands buzzing, ready to run to the rental car at the first dismissal. Shower be damned, he’d take a quick one at the hotel, he couldn’t be held up any longer.
“What’s goin’ on with you, Munson?” Elijah muttered, next to Eddie in the huddle on the ice, the coach’s droning about protocol for the game.
“Nothin’.” Eddie whispered back, twisting his stick in his hands. “Just wish he’d fuckin’ hurry up.”
Elijah’s eyes cut to Eddie, snorting lightly. “You got somewhere to be?”
“Yeah, I do actually.” Eddie sighed out. “Gotta get back. Promised my girl I’d take her out.”
Elijah’s brows raised. “Shit, you brought her with you?”
Eddie’s shoulders tensed. “She wanted to come.” He muttered defensively. “I mean, she wanted to. Now it’s kinda fucked, she’s-” Eddie’s eyes cut around him. “She’s kinda homesick.”
Elijah nodded slowly. “Yeah, that happens.” He fought back a smile. “When’s the last time you took her out?”
Eddie’s eyes cut to him, defensive with accusation. “It’s not like that. I take her out.”
“Yeah? On the off day? After we’ve traveled all day?” Elijah snorted, shaking his head. “C’mon, Munson. Believe me, that doesn’t count.”
Eddie ignored him, gripping his stick with furious annoyance. The fuck did he know? He didn’t know anything.
“Look, I’m not tryna piss you off. I did it, too. Just- believe me, alright? That one day shit doesn’t work.” Elijah pressed gently.
“Hey, I got it, alright? I’m good.” Eddie growled.
Elijah held his hands up in defense. “Alright, I’m just saying, when it was me,” He started. “I wasn’t meaning to. I just wasn't used to it. Had my own road routine and tried to fit her around it instead of into it. Thought it was going good until it wasn’t.”
Eddie stilled, silent but shoulders slumping lightly. “You gotta change your routine, find a way to fit her into it. She’s on the road too, not just you.” Elijah continued.
The coach whistled, waving them in dismissal. Eddie blinked, pulled out of his daze, lifting his helmet and stick with him. Elijah nodded at him. “Have fun tonight, Munson.” He smiled softly. “Make sure you take her somewhere nice.”
Elijah’s words rang in Eddie’s head all the way back to the hotel, only a short drive from the arena. Eddie nearly threw his keys at the valet, sliding into the elevator shamelessly, bouncing on the balls of his toes until he reached your floor.
You startled when he came in, sitting at the vanity, doing your makeup. “You’re done already?”
“Yeah,” Eddie muttered, ducking down for a kiss. “Just gotta shower real quick, but are you hungry?” He shimmied his workout sweats onto the floor, kicking his socks off with them.
Your eyes lingered over his bare lower half for a second, turning back to paint your mascara on. “I’m not starving.” You mumbled.
“Alright, good, I was gonna see if we could go to this place. I think you’ll like it.” Eddie grinned over his shoulder at you, the hiss of the shower coming to life. “Some guys told me if you’re in Pasadena you gotta go here.” His smile so wide, eyes sparkling in the dim yellowed light of the hotel bathroom, it made your tummy tingle with warm excitement.
Tumblr media
“Promise you’re not looking?” Eddie mumbled, hands over your eyes, waddle-walking awkwardly behind you, pressed close to your back.
“Swear I’m not.” You grinned. Eddie was right, it was beautiful outside. Warm and bright, light illuminating his hands that covered your eyes with a reddish glow.
“I can feel you trying to. Your lashes are tickling me.” Eddie muttered, leaving you giggling. “Ok, just- you know what, this is good enough. I’m scared you’re gonna trip.” Eddie said, lips curling at your soft laugh.
“Are you ready for your surprise?” You could hear Eddie’s grin in his voice, a breeze floating between the two of you.
“Yes.” You giggled, Eddie’s chest swelling at the sound. “Just show me. Your hands are clammy. They’re gonna smear my mascara.”
“Shit, sorry.” Eddie muttered sheepishly, a blush spilling on his cheeks, pulling his hands away so they were still in front of you. “Ok, ready?”
“Eddie-”
“-Sorry, Alright, one, two,” Eddie moved his hands, smiling proudly in front of you, a pinkish looking building behind you. “Here it is! Surprise!”
You blinked. “Oh.” You quipped softly.
Eddie blinked, smile falling. “What? I thought you’d- You don’t like it?”
“No,” You shook your head. “I mean, no, that’s- Where are we?”
“Oh,” Eddie shook his head lightly. “Shit, I thought you’d know. Uh, apparently this place is supposed to be like the place for flowers, y’know? Pasadena has that flower festival thing, but it’s not until later and I know you like to go to the cool places, and-” Eddie motioned to the store behind him.
You took in the building, spilling over with plants you could see from the inside. “I, uh, I know you miss home.” Eddie said softly. “And I was just thinking, y’know, we can’t get houseplants like at home, but maybe some bouquets? Some flowers for the hotel room.”
Eddie waited a beat, desperately trying to read your face, eyes wandering over the building and the signs. “I thought maybe you’d pick out some flowers and-and it would make it feel like home.” Eddie’s hands slid down his jeans, hot from the sun beaming on them. “Plus, you wanted to see some around here, a-and y’know… one bird, two stones.” Eddie rambled, shrugging sheepishly.
You felt the familiarity of a cry bubbling back in your chest, swelling and suffocation, only this time the aching of sadness was gone. In its place, a bubbling, burning feeling of adoration was left, consuming you from the inside out with every nervous glance Eddie gave you. He’d listened, really fucking listened. He always did, but this time it was different. Relief, comfort washing over you for the first time in days.
It felt like home.
Like the two of you were back in Hawkins, or Indianapolis even, perusing the usual spots, happy and content to be together in a familiar place.
Eddie wasn’t expecting you to grab him, pull him into you with a fierce, sloppy kiss. Right there on the sidewalk, under the California sunshine. Lips melting into his, clawing and grabbing at his shirt, the back of his neck. Eddie’s cheeks burned bright when you pulled apart, a smile so wide and goofy it made you giggle.
He let you grab his hand, lead him around the flower shop like a lost puppy, picking out anything and everything that made you smile. A bright bouquet spilling out beautifully in the green vase, made just for you.
You sat it right on the small bedside table, beaming at how it livened up the room. Eddie wasn’t sure if it was the flowers or you. Either way, it revived you, made you happier and giddier. Made the sheets of the hotel less cold when you slipped beneath them, legs tangled in his, pinning him under you onto the stiff mattress. It made the room brighter, spilling with a new fragrance that felt familiar.
It was small, a miniscule way that meant the world to you; made you feel at home. Eddie knew it, planning how he’d do it with every next city, until you finally got back home.

oh man imagine Hockey Player!Eddie
-Eddie who starts out afraid to hurt anyone in the beginning of the season, and plays an honest game for a while. Then during the third game, the opposing team starts throwing insults around (not new, but these were more personal). One of the players starts cornering Eddie, talking about his parents being deadbeats. Eddie starts getting heated, but it isn't until his uncle is mentioned that he loses it. Then Eddie's throwing his gloves off and throwing fists. He gets a split lip and black eye that night.
-Eddie who becomes notorious as "The Freak" for starting fights every time he's on the ice. Constantly ends up bloody and bruised but he likes the idea of being brave and feared. The opposing teams lose at least one or two players to injuries caused by him every game.
-Eddie's team captain Steve always smiling and shaking his head when Eddie ends up in the penalty box (which their home stadium has re-named after him). Steve gives the pre-game speech about playing a good game and waiting until at least half time to shed blood. He says this while staring directly at Eddie who is smirking so big, Steve knows he isn't listening.
-Eddie who has thousands of fans, his name on jerseys being sold everywhere, interviews lined up constantly. He loves the attention but wishes he could be at home more often instead of traveling for games and being at practice all the time.
-Eddie who convinced the team to change their song to an Ozzy Osbourne song. "It's more intimidating and metal," he said. Tried his best to convince them to change their mascot to a bat, but it didn't work.
-Mike, Will, El, Dustin, Max, and Lucas show up to every game. They get so loud when Eddie gets on the ice. He'll look through the stands to find them, give them an air fist-bump and bodycheck some poor sucker (it was Jason). Hopper was apprehensive allowing the kids to attend the games but knew they would sneak in regardless.

firstly I love your new blog layout it’s so fucking cute, secondly I love you 💕 thirdly, for your baby prompts, I’m thinking……… butterfly
happiness is a butterfly
got a little carried away with this one. 3k words of modern day!best friend!eddie munson x afab!reader. contains: fluff, alcohol, confessions of feelings, bisexual reader, two friends in a room who might kiss (they do), suggestive innuendo (eddie’s a sweetheart), and argyle’s matchmaking ways. thank you @breddiemunson and @ghost-proofbaby for always calming my wild thoughts, and katie’s line where eddie asks reader not to make him say what she already knows. genius, that one.

try to catch it like every night
it escapes from my hands into moonlight…”

Photo after photo. Swipe after swipe. Endless hopefuls that aren’t really hopefuls, because there aren’t many of those in Hawkins these days.
No—there are merely boys, wearing the skin of men, playing with hearts with a carelessness that leaves damage in their wake. Leaves your heart ripped to shreds; battered and bruised. Wounded, but not broken, with jagged lines where smooth surfaces had once been.
Tonight is no different. Tonight you mourn your relationship with Travis. Travis, who played hockey and apparently a different girl or guy in every state. You’d only found out through social media.
One of the girls he brought back to his hotel room had posted an image on her story while he slept, which then surfaced on another person’s social media account, and then eventually became a social media article on some gossip website you couldn’t, for the life of you, be bothered to remember.
You suppose the “Travis debacle,” as Eddie has been calling it, is your fault. A guy from out of town. The allure of some famous player with a broken down car in front of the Hideout, where you worked as a bartender, that you’d had your friend Eddie fix up as a favor.
You’d tossed him his keys as the sun set, burnt orange and red across the summer sky, and he’d asked, “How much?”
And suddenly you’d spent the week welcoming him around Hawkins, as well as the intricacies of your susceptible heart. Had preened and praised him while he perused his options in the next town over on his problematic apps.
The same apps you’re now frowning at, watching the population around you continue to dwindle with every pass of your thumb.
“You know, they say insanity is—”
“Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.”
You shoot a glare Eddie’s way, watching his dexterous fingers pull his hair back into a makeshift bun at the back of his head. Those same fingers reach down to grab your glass, chipped black nail polish capturing your attention as he draws your drink up to his lips and takes a long sip.
“Tequila. Travis really fucked up.” He chuckles. The movement has his cropped shirt billowing around his hips, tattoos on his sides visible where the holes his arms extend through as he settles down beside you. “You know, I think you need to ditch the apps. I did, and I’m much better for it.”
“You got a puppy a few weeks ago,” you point out, finger jabbing him in the ribs. He hisses, cupping his pec. “Getting a puppy is code for throwing in the towel.”
“Ozz is the cutest puppy, I’ll have you know. Look—” He waves to Gareth as he passes by, drumsticks twirling in his hands. “Delete the apps. Take a break. Isn’t there some quote about happiness? That Nathaniel Hawthorne one. You know, the ‘happiness is a butterfly’ one you used in a paper back in school.”
“One, I can’t believe you remember that.”
Your nose wrinkles at the thought of your teenage years. Of you with braces and he himself being the first person to welcome you to sit with him on your first day of school, snapping at Jason Carver when he’d brushed by you and thumped your shoulder a little too hard for his liking.
“And two, the quote is actually ‘happiness is like a butterfly, which, when pursued, is always beyond our grasp. But, if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you.’”
“So stop chasing it. Just let it happen. C'est la vie. Carpe diem. Voulez-vous coucher avec moi ce soir?”
You don’t even bother letting him know none of those things mean what he thinks they do.
“Eddie.”
He loops his arm around your neck. Presses a kiss against your temple. You lean into his embrace, comfortable warmth that seeps into your bones and floods you with familiarity.
He’s hard lines against your softer edges. Inky tapestries of collected memories that tell a tale of his adventurous life on the forearm tangled in your hair. His ring-clad fingers delight in toying with the tips, hair shifting between digits like water.
Calming and soothing Eddie. A constant in your life since you were teenagers, now going on ten years of friendship later. Someone you’ve always been able to turn to at the end of the day; someone who never once questions your motives, even if he might suggest you try different methods to your lifestyle habits.
And now, your dating habits.
“I’m just saying it’s worth a try.”
-
Maybe you don’t stop right away. Maybe it takes a date with Joe, Jim and Jessica to realize the truth of Eddie’s words. Maybe there’s some weight to pushing it all aside, stepping out of the way of your own preconceived timeline, and allowing someone to walk in at the right place and time.
And on a night such as this, where Corroded Coffin are getting set up on stage and citizens are packing out the bar to see the increasingly popular band play, it’s easy to remember why swiping on your phone has brought you here. To asshole Andy Lerman standing before you while you work. Basketball coach at Hawkins High and douchebag royalty from what you remember of him back in your years of teenage angst and adolescence.
He’s had a few drinks now. You know because you’ve served him. But all they’ve done is instill courage in him to step over to the girl who people teased in school for being a “freak fucker” by merely being associated with Eddie, claiming time ‘really did wonders for you.’
He’s staring at your tits when he says it, and it takes everything in you to not toss his next drink in his face. But in a town where money is hard to come by, and there’s not much to do by way of work, bartending pays the bills, and you’re not about to mess up one of the few good gigs left.
“Andy, it’s really not going to work,” you tell him, “but here. Your last one of the night…on me.”
With a quick pat to his shoulder, you send him on his merry way with a fuller pocket and a story to warp when regaling his friends with the time he pity-invited the “freak fucker” on a date.
“Don’t look now, my lady, but Eddie Munson is staring at you,” Argyle says, working on mixing a margarita beside you for a patron.
“He’s not staring at me,” you retort, sliding a vodka soda across the bar, thanking your customer for the hefty tip they toss your way. At Argyle’s raised brow, you reiterate, “he’s not.”
“He’s always staring. That’s the look Eden gives me. You know, the look of someone in l—”
Argyle’s words are cut short as Eddie appears on the other side of the bar, bare elbows pressing against the counter, hair falling out of his ponytail, bangs long overdue for a cut shifting every time he blinks.
“Are you okay?” He asks, thanking Argyle as he passes him the beer he knows he prefers. At your arching brow, he continues, “I saw Andy Lerman flirting with you. You looked uncomfortable.”
You snort, getting to work on a moscow mule. “That’s because I was uncomfortable. But I took care of it. I appreciate you always looking out, though.”
He reaches over and grabs your chin. Gives your head a little wiggle until you’re grinning against his palm. Then reaches his fingers over toward you, rests them so gently against your curled palm resting on the bar and pauses. He waits a moment and closes his ringed fingers into a fist, knocking his knuckles against yours.
Then he’s off toward the stage to get ready, leaving you with a knot in your throat and warmth prickling against your skin.
Argyle passes you a knowing smile and before you can yell at him to get back to work, embarrassment roiling in your chest, he announces he’s going to take a quick break and call his wife.
His words spin in your head once more. Comparing Eddie’s gazes to Eden’s. To the nature of the depth in which he cares for you. But you shake your head free of it.
You’ve been unlucky in love.
It couldn’t be so simple.
-
Argyle’s words don’t change much in regards to your Eddie conundrum.
They’re a phantom in the back of your mind. Wispy tendrils of a memory that feels distant now.
Weeks pass, and the warm heat of summer in Hawkins turns to a sweltering hell on earth.
The Hideout becomes quieter most evenings. Those with air conditioning prefer to stay home, remain by their pools, to host gatherings where alcohol and coolers are plentiful.
And you don’t blame them, letting out a long huff as you wipe down the counter, while Argyle counts your tips.
“Oh, how was that date with…Paul, was it?” He muses thoughtfully, beginning to split the money.
“Not great.”
“You said that about the last three. What was wrong with this one?”
And that’s the thing. You sit across from these people, trying to force a square into a circle, trying to sparse out the qualities that they’re lacking.
Not funny enough. Not the right hair color. They lack that unruly smile. That glimmer of brightness in their amber eyes. There’s no dimple in Paul’s cheek. No banter on your date with Jeremiah. Caleb doesn’t like metal, and Kayla thinks D&D is a breeding ground for satanism (you’d thought that one was left in the 80s, but it appears not).
“He said Dio was overrated.”
“Interesting,” Argyle laughs, shaking his head.
You whirl around, damp bar towel flicking water his way. “What’s so interesting?”
“Just funny when two people are so obviously similar and don’t even see it,” he says, humming to himself, conversation over.
And that was that.
-
It’s funny, you think, that it only hits you then.
Like the flutter of butterfly wings on your flowerbeds you’d managed to stumble upon earlier that morning, the flicker of wings on a bird in the sky. The soft beating of both, like the constant thump of a heart in a chest.
A constant.
It’s the word everything hitches on as you sit on that work table in your garage, watching the man who stopped everything he was doing when you’d called earlier at the drop of a hat. All just to make sure you were okay.
That same person who is now up to his elbows in grease, fingers stained an oily black. With his hair pulled away from his face, you catch the determined line of his mouth, the jut of his tongue pushing lightly against pink lips. The corded lines of his arms move as he works, barest hint of stomach on display when he reaches up to slam the hood of your car down once it’s finished.
You toss him a towel, grinning at the shadowy form of him blocking the sun from your eyes. “Sorry you’re doing this instead of the movies.”
“Stop that. You know I’m happy to spend any time with you, sweetheart,” he laughs, wiping the planes of his face that are streaked like the fingers pressing against terry cloth to keep it in place. “Fixed the alternator and did an oil change. Seeing as you always forget anyway.”
He walks over slowly, grunting when your sandaled foot kicks him playfully in the kneecap. “That was why my car made that awful sound and shut off?”
“Exactly.” He curls the towel around his neck. “Day is still young. How about we—”
“Why’d you delete all your dating apps?”
The words fall from you in a rush. A swift exhale that has Eddie’s back drawn ramrod straight. Rigid, but not with anger. Instead, you watch that full mouth part just slightly. Like the words he had been about to say were lost to the wind, left to titter away into nothingness.
He swallows audibly, palm sliding over the towel across his neck. “I…just didn’t see the point in them.”
Determination hardens your resolve. Brings to attention Argyle’s teasing these weeks. The wondering, questioning, burgeoning curiosities brimming. So you utter a simple, “Why?” and try your damndest to ignore the nerves welling up in your chest at the fear of what comes next.
“Just kind of felt like I was using them to get over someone else,” he admits, taking a step closer.
Your bare knees brush the tops of his thighs. Warmth seeps into your skin, bristles at his touch.
Dark eyes drag along your form. Along the dress you wore that evening, covered in flowers, a thin thing that would have fluttered in the wind if you and Eddie had been able to do what you’d planned for the day. Simple drive to the lake to eat some lunch, share a joint and fish (a new hobby he'd picked up from his uncle), then movies at the theater when the sun had set.
You meet his stare. Remind yourself of those eyes that had been on you the whole time Andy had leaned over the bar just weeks ago. Ready at any moment to come to your aid, should you have needed it. He’s never pushed you, never crossed the boundaries of your friendship, trusted you knew best.
But he’d always been there if you ever needed a hand.
You only ever needed to reach out.
Always.
You swallow thickly. “Who?”
“Don’t make me tell you what you already know.”
It’s quiet. A plea for pity that has your heart clenching within your chest.
But it’s not scary.
It’s not frightening at all.
Dozens of memories flash behind your eyes.
Of teenage years, laughing in the cafeteria, trading snacks, sneaking off to the woods between classes to smoke. Of you in community college, and his van screeching through the parking lot to take you to lunch between classes. Of nights at his place, your place, the movies, around town. Of ice cream at Lover’s Lake with his van doors swung wide, trying to make out the shapes of the clouds in the sky.
Birthday parties, milestones, weddings, grieved losses.
To highs and lows and everything in between. To all those shitty dates, to his own failed dating escapades. To that time you had to ice his lip in the back of the Hideout when Jeff had accidentally elbowed him in the face, or when you’d fallen off Max’s skateboard and ripped open your shin and he’d had to hold your hand while he disinfected it.
To this very moment, where he’s just finished fixing your car. To him with his dirty palm tapping lightly against your kneecap, feet shifting awkwardly beneath him.
Your head tips up and you catch the downturn of his lips, frozen in time by your prolonged silence.
Argyle was right.
“What?”
You hadn’t realized you spoke out loud, but confusion swirls behind Eddie’s gaze all the same, mollified only when your hand snakes up around the back of his neck and drags him downward to your level. Only when you pour your affection into him where you’re finally, lovingly, connected at last.
The fullness of his mouth against the softness of yours is hesitant at first, like his brain needs a moment to catch up to his current reality, before he’s tipping your head up with his hand. Until his fingers slide across your cheek, cupping you gently, easing you closer to him.
Before long he’s gripping you closer. Deft fingers in the dough of your thighs, tugging you flush against him, skirt indecently high up on your hips. But you don’t care. Not as your ankles lock around his waist, nor as he hums into your throat while he leaves a sloven path along your skin, learning the sounds you make when he’s tender, sweet—when he scores his teeth against your pulse point and you melt like putty beneath his devotion filled fingertips.
Ten years. Ten years of watching that silly butterfly float away into the sky, only for it to have been there all along.
Only for it to have been the man with his forehead against yours, noses flush together, your fingers beneath his shirt and his around the bend of your kneecaps.
You’re not sure where you start and he ends, but even that incites a new thrill, a new world to explore further. A desire to know the depths of him beyond the limit of friendship.
“Argyle got to you too, huh?” At your nod, Eddie barks out a laugh. Kisses you softly. “Fuckin’ guy thinks he’s Cupid or something.”
“I don’t want to talk about Argyle right now.”
Eddie’s lips curl into a grin. The whites of his teeth flash in your gaze, your fingers trailing along his stubble-lined jaw.
“I don’t either.” His thumb comes to swipe at your cheek, dimple in his cheek twitching slightly. “Got you a little greasy. Just…ten years, you know? Got a little carried away.”
You nod, reaching out to lace your fingers with his. He watches as you hop down from the work table, brow arching curiously as you tug him toward the door leading into your home. “Well, like you said, we’ve got ten years to catch up on. So before I kiss you more, Edward Munson, we’re going to shower.”
“We?” He swallows, voice hoarse. “Like a two people conserving water shower?”
You enter the small laundry room, humming as his chest brushes your own, his weight just enough against yours to press you into the lip of your drying machine. Cool metal chills your skin at the open back of your dress, balanced by the heat of the knee that slides between your thighs to pin you in place. Your body both buzzes with life and oozes honey into your system as you melt into him, pliant under that smoldering dark gaze of your best friend in front of you.
“We,” you nod, grinning into his kiss. “After that we’re cuddling on the couch and ordering a pizza.”
“And tomorrow…I’m taking you on a date.”

The Criminal And The Princess III
Grumpy!College!Eddie X Sunshine!Skater!Reader
Tumblr media
Summary : the nights in full swing, but what happens when billy hargrove messes with eden when eddies around?
Word Count : 1.4k
Warnings : billy hargrove, assault, there’s a fight, swearing, billy’s a prick, apart from that it’s pretty fluffy.
~ / / / * \ \ \ ~
Eddie and his bands set was incredible, all of us were cheering loudly. They played a couple of their own songs and the some covers. Metallica of course, Black Sabbath and even some Led Zeppelin.
Eddie came over to us, a huge grin on his face, Steve pulled him into a hug. “You were great man!” Eddie laughed, loudly, squeezing Steve’s shoulder as he pulled away.
“Thanks man, thank you all for coming!”
“Of course, I was excited to see you play outside of class!” Robin said.
“You know each other?” I asked Robin. The girl nodded, “Yeah he’s in music with me and Vickie.”
I hummed, nodding my head. Eddie was chatting away with Steve, when his band mates came over. “Guys these are my friends Steve and Robin, and this is Nancy, Jonathan, Vickie and Argyle.”
His brown eyes met mine, “And this is Eden.”
“Oh Eden?” One of the boys cocked a brow at him, throwing a smirk at him too. “Yeah,” Eddie said, elbowing him, “This is Gareth, Jeff and Doug,” he spoke, motioning to each.
Greetings were exchanged, “Let’s get another round in, Herrington give me a hand,” The curly haired boy spoke, heading to the bar.
“I’ll go give them a hand,” I told Robin, following after the two boys. “I’m here to help,” I smiled at Steve.
“What are you having?” Eddie asked me.
“Vodka lemonade please, I’ll pay you back for it,” I spoke. Shaking his head, he brushed me off, “No need, playing bands and friends get free drinks.”
“Friends?” I smiled.
“As soon as you spoke about Metallica we became friends Princess.” My skin was covered in goosebumps at the pet name, I couldn’t meet his gaze as my cheeks flushed.
“Okay these are Vickie, Robins and Nancys,” Steve said, passing me three drinks, “You good with those?” I hummed, nodding my head as a yes, and began walking over to group.
“Bennett, how you doing Sweetheart?” a slimy voice said from behind me. “Billy,” I said, and continued walking. “Oh come on, stay and drink with me.”
“I’m with friends,” I tried as hard as I could to get away, but I hand on my waist. “Come on, why are you still playing hard to get? You know it’s gonna be me and you in the end, star hockey player and ice skating queen.”
“I’d say Harrington was the star hockey player.” He was stunned silent, a couple of his friends sniggered behind him, but Billy made them shut up with glare.
“Come on Sweetheart, join us.”
“I said no Billy.” Without a second to react, the blonde boy grabbed me, yanking me towards him. The glasses that were in my hand dropped, smashing on the floor, causing a cheer to go through the room.
Billy pulled me to his chest, I could smell the alcohol on his breath. “Billy let go,” I said, trying to tug away. “You’ve been playing with me for too long, so we’re gonna have a drink and then we’re gonna go home together.”
“No we’re not!” I shoved his chest.
“You little- why can’t you just do as you’re told?” he snapped, yanking me back.
“Let her go Hargrove,” I felt another arm pull me close, “Or what Munson?”
“You don’t want to know.” It was Eddies arm around me, he gently pulled me behind him to shield me. “Oh fuck off you freak! She’s mine.”
“Well she said no.”
“So what?” With that Eddies first smacked into Billy’s face. “Eddie!” I shouted. With a sadistic grin, Billy grabbed Eddie, yanking him forward and smashed his head to his own.
The pair threw punches at one another not stopping, even when Steve stepped in, he was pushed away. “Are you okay?” he asked. “Y-yeah I’m fine.”
“COPS!” some yelled. With that Eddie shoved Billy over and grabbed my hand pulling me from the bar. “What the fuck? Eddie where are we going!?”
“Just keep up will you!”
Our feet slammed against the floor as we ran, Eddie letting out wild laughter. “You’re crazy,” I chuckled, out of breath.
“Tell me something I don’t know.”
Finally we came to a stop, both breathing heavily. “Are you okay?” Eddie asked, turning to face me. “Yeah I’m fine, you didn’t have to do that.”
“Of course I did, you’re my friend, right?”
“Right.” Eddie squeezed my hand, I hadn’t even noticed he was still holding it. Letting go, he smiled at me. “Do you like milkshakes?” he asked.
“Yeah, why?”
“If we carry on down here, we’ll be at Benny’s diner, want one?”
“Yeah, that sounds good.”
Motioning at me to walk, we went on our way side by side. “Are you going to be in trouble?” I asked.
“Probably but it’s fine, wouldn’t be the first time.”
I cocked a brow at him, “Uh, petty crimes.”
“Ah I see.” Bumping his shoulder against mine, he smiled, “What about you?”
“What a criminal record?”
“Yeah.”
With a grin I shook my head, “Nah, don’t have the time.”
“Oh yeah, ice princess.” I laughed at that, “Something like that.”
“When did you start skating?” he asked.
“When I was 4, my mom used to skate so. When did you start doing music?”
“About the same as you, my mom played guitar.”
I hummed, “She must be proud, you’re great.”
“I hope she would be.” Oh. You know that saying. “Yeah, I hope my mom would be proud too.”
“When did she pass?”
“I was 12.”
“I was 10.” I hummed, “We have more in common than I thought.”
“What for a criminal and a princess?”
“Something like that.”
“Oh we’re here.” There was Benny’s diner, proper 50s all american movie looking. Red booths lined the walls, with road signs and wheel covers. “Woah, it’s cool in here.”
“Right.”
Leading me to a booth, I slid in, feeling the cool leather beneath my legs. “So what shake you feeling?”
“Strawberry.”
“Good choice, I’m more of a Chocolate shake guy myself.”
“Munson,” a gruff voice said, making me look up and away from Eddie. “Benny, how are you man?”
“Good, you keeping out of trouble?” The man, Benny, asked. “Trying too,” Eddie flashed a cheesy grin.
“That’s what I like to hear, and who’s this?”
“Benny, this is Eden. Eden, Benny is the owner of this fine establishment.”
“Eden? You’re Ethans daughter?” I nodded my head at the man.
With a hum, he faced Eddie,”You know what sucking up gets you Munson?”
“Two free shakes? One Strawberry, one chocolate?” With a deep laugh, Benny nodded, walking away. “Damn Munson, you really have a way with people.”
“I know,” he smirked, resting his face on his hands.
I couldn’t help but smile at the boy. “I’m sorry I haven’t text you yet.”
“Oh it’s okay, first week back after summer is always crazy for everyone.”
“Well I’m free Sunday?”
“Yeah, Sundays good. Speaking of texts, I should let the girls know where I am.”
“Go for it.”
Pulling out my phone I saw the groupchat consisting of me, Nancy and Robin was going off.

“Yeah they just wanted to know where I was.”
“With your knight in shining armour princess.”
“Ah yes, sir Munson thank you for saving me from that foul beast,” I played along.
“You’re not like what I thought,” he smiled, tilting his head. “Neither are you.”

“I’m sorry I couldn’t drive you, my vans at The Hideout and if the cops are there,” he pulled a face, which made me laugh. “It’s fine, thank you for walking me home.”

The hiss of the puck gliding over the ice, skittering into the goal, skates whizzing to a stop. It was comforting to Eddie. He’d never really known what people meant when they’d say “get in the zone” growing up, until he started playing again, playing for real this time. It was easy to focus on the sounds, silence your brain by tricking it to listen to the claps of the stick on the ice, the pop of the puck soaring, the-
“Skidamarink a dink, a dink. Skidamarink a doo.”
A clean miss, startled by the sudden blaring of music from behind him. Skates wobbling, knees locking into place. Eddie turned, squinting towards the other end of the rink.
“Hey, hey!” Eddie skated, shouting over the music- horrendous at that, what was this song?
“Excuse me,” You looked up, adjusting the volume on your boom box. “Hey, uh, sorry this is a closed practice.” Eddie skated to you, hockey stick waving exaggeratedly behind him.
“Yeah it is.” You nodded, head tilting to the side slightly. “Are you… here to drop off?”
“What? No, no, I-” Eddie paused, brows furrowed at you lightly. “I- this is my practice.”
“Your practice?” You repeated, pointing at the ice below you.
“Yeah.”
“You’re here for the Snowflakes?”
“No, I play for-” Eddie shakes his head, hand running over his face. “Snowflakes? What-”
“-The three to four year old class?” You press, brow raised, face contorted in what Eddie could only assume was your best judgment masking, though by the scrunch in your nose, it wasn’t working very well. “For ice skating lessons?”
“Lessons? Sweetheart, c’mon, does it look like I need lessons?” Eddie grins, smug and sweet. His heart skips when you bite back a smile, lips twitching. “I’m- I rent out the time to practice.”
“Oh,” You frown slightly. “I, uh, I did too.”
“You know what, let me- let me just go ask Max.” Eddie flashes you a dazzling smile. “I’ll get it sorted out.”
“You’re both right.” Max droned behind the desk, flipping through a magazine lazily. “Both of you have the slot for today.”
“What? Why-Why would Bobby book up both spots?” Eddie frowned. “That makes no fuckin’ sense. I’m here every Thursday-”
Max huffed, snatching the scheduling paper off the back wall, slapping it on the desk. “Eddie Munson. Five to six-thirty. Left.” Her blue eyes raised in boredom. “That means, you’re on the left side.”
“Left? This is- That’s fuckin’ ridiculous, Max, c’mon-”
“-It’s Bobby.” Max rolled her eyes. “He’s trying to double book, make more money during the dead season. I don’t know what to tell you.”
“So I have to practice with a bunch of fuckin’ kids running around?” Eddie huffs. “How the hell am I gonna do that? Huh? Do you hear the shit they’re playing in there?” Eddie throws a hand out towards the rink. “I’m already about to lose my mind.”
“So get some ear plugs, Eddie, I don’t know.” Max huffed, throwing her hands up. “You know I can’t refund you, so either leave, or suck it up. I honestly don’t care, Munson, up to you.”
Eddie’s tongue poked the inside of his cheek, rolling furiously. Bunch of kids skating all around him, screaming and shit, he’d never get anything done.
Still, Eddie’s eyes wandered back to you. In your matching tracksuit, a powdery blue that seemed to shine even under the fluorescents of the rink. He supposed there could be worse people to share the ice with. He faced Tommy Raider again next season, and he’d rather be with a bunch of screaming toddlers anyday over him anyday.
Besides, the kids weren’t so bad. The occasional screech or laughter when you’d have them do something silly. It was cute, honestly, Eddie decided, seeing these little kids wobble around on skates while you cooed enthusiastically at them.
“Ok, my little flurries,” You grinned, cheeks aching from the amount of feigned enthusiasm you had to muster. “Next week we’re going to really work on our glide.” You pushed off dramatically, soaring a few spaces then stopping.
It was so exaggerated, over the top and made the kids giggle; Eddie was sure he was in love.
“So be sure to be practicing holding your arms way, way out!” You extended your arms, beaming at the few who mimicked you. “And I’ll see you all next week!”
Eddie had spent the majority of the time practicing what he’d say to you, how he’d ask you out. A classic chat up line always worked at the bar, always helped him score. Still, his knees wobbled, tight and a little unsure as he skated over to you.
You were waving goodbye to a student, stepping off to the bleachers to undo your own skates. “Hey,” Eddie’s voice cracked, wobbly and unsure in his throat, teeth clenching in a grimace.
You looked up, a tiny half smile in greeting. “Hi. Hope we didn’t bother you too much.”
“What? No. No, no, no. No, you didn’t-” Eddie took a breath, heart hammering in his chest, ringing in his ears. “It was… Yeah, that was really fun to watch actually. The, uh, seeing the kids in their skates and shit. You’re-You’re really good with them, and, uh…” The fuck is that Munson? The fuck are you doing? Eddie’s mind raced, furiously.
“Thanks.” You grinned, a wicked little smile that had Eddie’s cheeks flushing. He hadn’t felt like this in years. Felt like he was back in middle school, swooning any time Connie Donohue would swish her hair over her shoulder, letting it land on his desk and brush his hand.
“They’re a fun age. Super sweet. Not like the asshole eight year olds.” Your finger curled under the untied laces, shimmying them loose.
“Oh? Eight year olds, they're the asshole group?” Eddie grinned, leaning against the rink’s surface. He hoped you couldn’t tell how he was flexing, muscles protruding under the tight, black material of his shirt.
“Total assholes. I had them last year, and that’s why I switched-”
“-Excuse me?” A tiny squeak of a voice came from behind you. You turned, expecting one of your kids who had forgotten a mitten or jacket.
“Are-Are you Eddie Munson?” The small boy with wide eyes gaped at Eddie.
Eddie flushed, swallowing, eyes flickering to you. Your brows creasing, looking at the tiny boy then back at Eddie. “Yeah, yeah that’s me.” Eddie forced a smile, gripping the rink as he stepped onto the bleachers, settling on the ones across from you.
“What’s your name, little man?” Eddie grinned.
“Samuel.” The boy grinned, a little shyly.
“Samuel, that’s a cool name. How old are you?”
“Eight.” The boy beamed.
Eddie’s eyes cut over to yours, lips twisting, fighting back a grin. You blushed, turning away from his glances, cheeks burning with heat you hoped he didn’t see. “Eight? That’s a… that’s a cool age, right?”
“Right.” Samuel nodded. “I-I watch you all the time with my dad and my mom.” Samuel babbled in true kid fashion. “You’re my favorite hockey player.”
“Me? No way, c’mon.” Eddie shook his head playfully.
“Yeah, ‘cause you’re from Hawkins too.” Samuel nodded, matter of factly. “They said that on-on the TV one time when I was watching.”
“Yeah, that’s right.” Eddie nodded. “Used to practice here when I was your age.” He nodded over towards the rink behind him.
“We went one time to a game, and… and you lost a tooth!” Samuel giggled in true, eight year old asshole form. “The other guy knocked it out when-when you were fighting!”
Eddie laughed, a howling of a cackle that bounced off the walls of the rink, over the hum of the electricity and heat in the stands.
You watched carefully, interest piqued. You knew he was good, you’d watched him practice, it was obvious he had skill. And the name did sound familiar, plastered across headlines and the local news, one of Hawkins’ very own made it big.
Eddie signed Samuel’s jersey, left him scampering back to his awaiting parents with a triumphant grin. “What are the odds of that?” Eddie beamed, grinning ear to ear when he looked over at you.
You laughed, knotting your own skates together, reaching for your snow boots. “I, uh, I didn’t realize you-you played for the… Played hockey.”
“Yeah,” Eddie shrugged, inked hand running down his arm. You tried not to stare. “It’s alright, really. Not bad benefits, but work hours are a little crazy.”
“Yeah?” You laughed lightly. “I would say so. Pretty demanding.”
“Oh yeah. And you lose a tooth or two sometimes.” Eddie’s eyes cut to yours playfully, a dimpled grin that had your heart shooting with heat.
“Yikes.” You sucked in a breath dramatically. “That seems brutal.”
“You ever been?” Eddie asked, untying his own skates, letting the blade rest on the cement barrier in front of him.
“To… what? A game?”
“Yeah.”
“No.” You shook your head. “Not, like, a real hockey game. Not… Not one of yours.” Your knee bounced nervously, a little unsure even in your own answer.
“You should come.” Eddie shrugged cooly, hoping you couldn’t see the way his hands shook with adrenaline. “Come to the opener in a few weeks. I’ll get you tickets.”
“What?” You laughed lightly. “You- No, you don’t even know my name, and you’re gonna get me tickets? Yeah, right.” You rolled your eyes at him.
“Well, I was hoping I could get your name, maybe your number too.” Eddie’s lips pursed lightly. “Get to know you before the game. Can give you those tickets next time I see you. What do you think? You free Friday night? Saturday?”
You blushed, looking down at your boots, fiddling with the laces to avoid his gaze. “Saturday. I don’t have to work.” You looked back at him.
“Saturday it is.” Eddie beamed.
You scrawled your name and number on the torn corner piece of the schedule. Eddie had snatched it and a pen from behind the desk, ignoring Max’s huffs of annoyance. He’d clutched it the whole way home, paper a little soft from the dampness of his sweaty hands. The tiny slip of paper was taped to his landline, staying there long after Eddie had memorized the number. In your pretty, loopy handwriting for Eddie to see each time he called you.

hockey!eddie, angst, bruises
feel better evie 🫶🫶
"This one looks pretty bad." You muttered, helping Eddie out of his undershirt, sticky with sweat, clinging to his battered body.
You would think he wore no padding with the way his skin looked, blossoming with deep hues of purple, greenish tints haloed around, prominent even under his tattoos. You knew he played rough, he always did. It was his thing, why the fans loved him so much.
Still, it wasn't nearly as fun for you, who had to tend to him afterwards. Who watched in horror every time he was slammed into the glass, body barreled at him by someone much bigger than him, an opponent he haggled until they were checking him.
He'd taken it too far, against the Penguins. Taunting and mocking their defensive center until he sent Eddie flying, a dogpile of a fight that got them both ejected. Only, Eddie's departure was on a stretcher.
Bruised ribs, which you supposed was better than them being broke. Though now, you weren't sure, looking at the mangled mess on his skin.
Eddie grunted, trying to swallow back a cry of pain when you moved his arm. "'S not too bad." He gritted. "Definitely had worse."
You didn't laugh, lips didn't pull in a smile. Instead, you simply pressed the frozen ice pack to his side, ignoring the hiss he gave when the hard, cold plastic touched the throbbing bruise.
"What's wrong?" Eddie sighed, gnawing at his bottom lip. "C'mon, why're you mad?"
Your lips twitched, turning to reach for the gauze. "I wish you wouldn't just go out there and try to get hurt-"
"-I don't try." Eddie huffed, eyes rolling nearly petulantly. "It's just apart of it. You get hurt sometimes."
"You do try." You snapped, every hue of blue, purple, green, red- it infuriated you even more. "You just go out there and piss them off until they're sending you flying. And you always go for the biggest guys-"
"-I can handle them." Eddie boasts defensively, chest puffing lightly.
"But you can't, Eddie." You huff. "He broke your ribs."
"He didn't break them, they're only bruised."
"This time." You snap. "I thought you said you'd be more careful." You sighed, eyes rounding when they met his.
Eddie swallowed down the rising bile in his throat. You looked so disappointed. "I- I'm trying." His pitch raised, just barely but you know better, you knew he was lying.
You sighed, a defeated slump in your shoulders, wrapping the gauze around the ice packs. "Sure, Eddie." You muttered, shaking your head lightly.
"Baby, you know I really can't. I-I have to give the fans what they want, or I-ll get traded or-or cut-"
"-I know, Eddie." Your tone was flat, deadpanned with no fight left. It made Eddie's chest tick, buzz with nerves.
It had become so routine, the fight, you didn't have it left in you to have it again. He knew how you felt, you knew his excuses, it wasn't worth it. Instead, you wrapped his wounds, pressed the ice to his chest until it was comfortable in a tense silence that left a bitter taste in both your mouths.

I now need hockey!eddie to say "oooo you wanna kiss me so bad rn"
he's the type to be like mid argument- not a serious one, just a little bickering match. he forgot to close the toilet seat and you're grumpy and that set you over the edge. you're upset, yelling at him, just bitching him out, and he's upset too, but also-
"let me just say one fuckin' thing? can i say one fuckin' thing please?"
you huff, throwing your hands up. "fine, eddie. what? what do you have to say?"
eddie's brows are furrowed, upset and angry. "i'm gonna be honest with you, because i know that's what you want me to be." and you're ready to scream at him, furious and revved up even more. "i am rock fuckin' hard right now."
you blink. "what? what did you just say to me?"
"look, i've been listening to you, and-and i get where you're coming from. i'm definitely going to work on that, promise. but like, babe," he looks down at his crotch. "you want me to be honest? tell you how i feel? i feel horny. i'm turned the fuck on, and i'm sorry about it, but that's just what happens."
you're a little confused, a little angry but less now. "you wanted me to be honest so i am! and i didn't want you to see it and get mad, but like it's there, and it's not going away, because you're hot right now. this is doin' something to me, alright?"
"eddie, what the fuck-"
"-and i really think you just wanna kiss me right now." eddie can feel your anger disappearing, though you huffed at him in annoyance. "you wanna kiss me soooo bad, and i know it. so just do it! get it over with!"
you shove him instead, shoulder checking him dramatically as you stomp past him, his hand catching your wrist, pulling you back into him, peppering your face with kisses, erection grinding into your ass as you squeal and try to push him away half-heartedly.

hockey player!eddie who doesn’t flinch at the cold, he’s so used to it, but you do so he’s forever trying anything he can to keep you warm. holding your hands in his, rubbing them together and blowing warm air on them while you walk. giving you his toboggan even when his hair looks all crazy without it bc your ears are cold. holding you close to him when he can, letting you slip your hands or arms inside his jacket so you can warm up. because that is the kind of man he is, and what a man he is!!!!

Hockey!Eddie, books, fluff
"Holy fuck," Eddie gawked.
"Shh." You hissed, cheeks flooding with heat, looking around carefully. "Be quiet, Ed, we're in a library."
"Sorry," Eddie nodded to the elderly woman at the desk. "Thought this was a book store?"
"It is." Your hand found his, intertwining your fingers together, Eddie's heart soared. "But you still have to be quiet. Can't scream fuck as soon as we walk in. Gonna get us kicked out."
"Sorry, babe." Eddie grinned, lopsided and silly, curls poking out from under his beanie. He looked so adorable, so angelic, how could you stay mad?
"What're you looking for again?" Eddie muttered, head tilted back, taking in the aisles and aisles of book, stacked to the ceiling. He'd never seen so many fuckin' books before, didn't know there was even this many.
A game in New York brought you both here, an out of towner that Eddie begged you to come to. A by-week after this one, so he'd turned it into a mini-vacation for the two of you. Settled you up at the Plaza, and you still weren't sure how he'd pulled that but it was magical, exploring the city together.
"I don't know." You admitted. "I was talking to this couple at your game, and they gave me some recommendations to go to. This was one of them." You hummed, pulling him towards the stairs.
"Well, whatever you want, I'll get it for you." Eddie grinned, chest boasting proudly.
"Whatever I want?"
"Yeah." He nodded, eyes shining brightly. "Won my game, baby. Got an extension on my contract. Whatever you want."
"Hm," You grinned. "Even a first edition?"
Eddie shrugged. "If that's what you want." He squeezed your hand lightly. "I'll make it happen."
You had to fight the urge pulling him into a row of books, pushing him up against the shelf and having yourself a sloppy make out right then and there. Instead, your arms looped around his waist, climbing up the stairs with him to the next level.

(Just because I saw a TikTok about it, lol) When Hockey!Eddie does have his first baby, and he’s on the road for games, and has unfortunately been gone for some time, I feel like Reader would plan a surprise visit by setting the car seat with their baby in front of Eddie’s hotel room, lol.
She knocks and hides away to the side, Eddie, of course, can’t see anyone through the peephole (tiny baby problems), and grumbles about who the hell is knocking on my door at this hour?!”
Until he begrudgingly opens it, only to be face-to-face with his smiling baby—who very much giggles and sticks out their little arms instinctively, because that’s literally DADDA!
And Eddie, for certainly, is in shock. “What?!” He coos, as he picks up his baby. “You know how to use a plane ticket?!”
STOP OMG
thinks it's his teammates being dumb or some girl had followed him back to the room. either way it's late, he's annoyed, he's supposed to call you in a few minutes for your nightly phone call and now someone's interrupting him??
he almost doesn't answer so you have to knock again. he's fuming, grumbling, barks a "what?" in the meanest, grumpiest voice you've ever heard from him.
baby munson starts to cry. he can't see you and eddie's yelling?? not a good mix. starts as a whimper then a soft gurgle of a cry. you cringe, then the door opens.
"what the fuck do yo- oh!" eddie's face instantly lights up. "oh my god? no way- how did you get here?" he coos, dropping to pick up the baby.
"hey, hey, it's alright little man. what's goin' on? you got on a plane by yourself?" eddie grins, bouncing the baby, looking around for you. "i mean i knew you were getting big, but i didn't know you were this grown up." he plays along, catching the tips of your sneakers around the corner.
ahh i love him!!!
also baby hockey! munson boy needs a name
