dirk is like actually the first character to have a proper emotional spectrum uncovered besides rose. Like her mom dying was a huge moment 4 her obviously and the first time we hear anything below surface level from a homestuck character on their emotions so i guess shes the first 3D character but idk dirk's convo w/ hal feels different 2 me. Since rosie's outburst was bcos of something so cosmic and sort of abstract, it was difficult to connect with but thats just me. rose's emotional outburst was more Hero based i guess. dirk's came on because he was having trouble with his first boyfriend & its the groundedness of the alpha kids and their emotions that makes them soooo fucking relatable. Like dirk and jane finally talking about how they could have been better friends to each other and probably helepd each other a lot, dirk revealing how he feels about roxy, jane being the only person roxy wants to talk to about her alcoholism, and Jake's inability to handle any of the emotions of his friends/boyfriend...all of it is just So real and tangible. But all of that pre-god tier stuff happens after dirk talks to hal about his identity problems and shit. that full conversation which ends with hal asking dirk if he wants to die... thats the stuff. idk it just really struck me that this point in the comic (A6A5P3) is just so emotionally driven with such similar themes coming from Dirk/Rox/Jane and then Karkat/Dave/Terezi. im sure it had something to do w hussie's personal life But it is really coming off as so genuine and the convo between Jane and Dirk specifically is one i wish that i had wehn i was their age. Thats it x
