Week 1: Firebrat! (Thermobia Domestica)

A little insect that snuggles into warm cozy spaces and munches on leaf litter, cereals, and book bindings. They have a distinctive long three tail-like appendages!

Hi do you like images. I love images. Heres a little over 100 guilty gear trading cards from the early 2000s. Every character up to xx is accounted for… some more than others. For now. But the average is probably 4 or 5 cards per character. Nearly all of the art is original. Okay have fun :)

Slow down. Don’t worry too much about terms and mechanics. The very beginning of FFXIV is very good at teaching you how to fight and how to do things, so long as you pay attention (and read your tooltips! Hover over your skills to read what they do)

if you’re getting lost in the lore, Jesse Cox has a very in depth and spoiler free video on Hydealyn’s history. I would argue you don’t need it, because you can coast by and learn everything you need by osmosis, but if you’re one of those ppl who wants a solid background before going forward it’s a great video!

The very beginning is a little overwhelming because you’re doing job AND main story quests at the same time right off the bat. You can do them at the same time and you’ll be fine, but the stories can get tangled, so you can choose to do blue job quests (they will teach you moves and buttons and stuff!! And unlock moves and buttons!) until you can’t do them anymore then use MSQ to get the experience in between. After you’re around 25-35 you can get a hang of spacing those out and just go ham on MSQ

you’re also learning the map which I can’t help you with i got lost in the shroud and ul’dah so often. click the blue text under the quest name to bring up where it is on the map

and it’s throwing new terms at you a lot. If you need them, it’ll come up again. If they’re not 100% necessary, like crafting and materia melding and stuff, it’ll be there for you to figure out whenever you want to.

If you miss a line of dialogue in a cutscene, which I did sometimes because I was speeding and then something important happened, hit / and then click “event” in your chat log. A log of dialogue will appear!

if you miss a cutscene entirely, go into any inn and click on the unending journey book.

when doing your outfits, go into character and then click the button near the top of your outfit display that says recommended gear. Always wear that. You can glamor over pretty looking outfits later

if you go into system -> HUD layout, you can move hud items around. It’s a little complicated, but I had to move a bunch of stuff to get comfortable!

spending your Gil is fine. you’ll earn it back, just save some for aetheryte teleporting fees for now

you can sell any items (like beastkin blood or animal leather) you get from combat at any vendor by dragging it from your inventory into theirs. Keep food (to eat!), and clothes until they’re far too low level. animal parts you are not going to need ever unless you’re into crafting

hall of the novice is good for getting your grips but dungeons at level 15 are way more effective for learning how to play your class in the actual game

don’t be afraid of being a beginner in the beginning dungeons!!! You are either queuing with other beginners or people who know they’re going to be in an arr dungeon with new players. You have a sprout you’re safe people will 90% of the time be super nice. Let people know you’re new and they’ll help! You got this!!!!!!

once you get your chocobo go find “my feisty little chocobo” it will let the bird fight with you AND OR HEAL YOU (HELPFUL <-BLACK MAGE)

Panel one is so close to Tenzō that he's mostly out of the frame aside from the lower half of his face. He's trembling again. Behind him, Kakashi regards him with a critical eye. "Here I am, making you patch me up, asking you not to report me, but putting you in a situation where you have to," Tenzō says, then, adds, "And I'm scared of my own village." Panel two shows us only their backs. Tenzō is sitting straight, shaking, and Kakashi is leaning towards him slightly. "I'm, at this point, already a liability—" Tenzō starts, but Kakashi cuts him off. "Tenzō, I'm not going to report you," Kakashi says. Panel three, Tenzō turns to look at Kakashi. The tears have returned to his eyes and he doesn't seem to notice them. "I know you don't want to," Tenzō says. Panel four, Tenzō looks away and down. His shudders have noticeably increased. "You're very loyal," Tenzō starts. Kakashi interrupts, "Tenzō." "And I can't let myself take advantage of that," Tenzō says, as though he didn't even hear Kakashi. Panel five, Tenzō turns back to Kakashi. He's slightly smaller in the panel than the previous two. "I'm sorry. I don't know why I came here," Tenzō says. "Tenzō," Kakashi interrupts, this time in a larger speech balloon with bolder text, louder. Tenzō continues still, "I forced you into this situation—" Panel six features only Kakashi, his eyes are narrowed, his eyebrows low, and he's got his hand in front of himself as though he's making a slashing motion. "Tenzō, you're not listening to me," Kakashi says. "You're not a liability or a threat, and I will not be reporting you." Panel seven shows them facing each other. Kakashi is sitting straight, while Tenzō has once more assumed his defensive hunch forward. "Senpai—" Tenzō starts to argue. "I am however, going to bar you from both solo and split missions in any research labs for the next year, at least," Kakashi says, and some small, pale subtext beside it reads "Unless my order is superseded by a higher officer, obviously." Tenzō, looking frustrated, but still shaking and tears still rolling down his cheeks, argues back. "I told you, it wasn't the lab. I wasn't scared, it was like I—" /end ID

And yes! We love thinking about the Celestial Realm (if only the game would give us more info 😩) and we certainly explore it in a number of our fics ... especially anything to do with Simeon. 👀

If you mean headcanon-wise, the most we've probably dived into it so far is in our Three Realms Headcanon post, which is the basis of how we think the Celestial Realm operates and is woven into our writing, like below. ♡

The Celestial Realm, on the surface, is what most would call a paradise. Verdant and lush, bright and airy. A sanctuary, where one is surrounded by and consumed in tranquility. Look upon the Celestial Palace, and an overwhelming sense of gratitude and wonder settles in as one marvels at the spires reaching high into the bright blue sky while cotton clouds hug their walls. Listen closely, and you can hear the soft chime of bells creating a serene melody as warm sunlight bathes the realm in all its glittering glory.

Heavenly, as it is meant to be. 

But the more the diamond glitters, the more it can deceive. 

Simeon knows this well – Too well, he muses. He stands now in one of the many halls of the palace, just out of reach of the prismatic light scattering across white stone as it passes through stained glass. He is used to it – the deception, the shadows that hide behind the light, the imperfection in what is meant to be perfect. He has no choice but to be, for this is the realm he is meant to serve. 

“Just because I’m an angel,” he remembers telling his dear human once, “does not mean that I am all-forgiving.” He closes his eyes as he recalls yet another time, “We angels don't just go around helping humans at every opportunity, you know?”  

Oh, how could they know, with all the splendid tales now woven of the celestial beings? Merciful, beautiful, kind. Angels were meant to guide their little lambs, were they not?

Yet lambs could also be led to the slaughter. 

“Simeon! There you are.” 

The angel tenses as he hears his name, though turns with a smile firmly in place, the one for which he was so well known. “Michael. Can I help you with something?” 

“Indeed, you can.” There is no humor in Michael’s voice, nor sparkle in his eye. Shadows pass over his features as he walks towards the other, footsteps echoing throughout the hall. “We need to talk.”

“Whatever about?” The smile stays in place, though dread builds in the pit of his stomach with each clack, clack, clack. 

“You know what this is about, Simeon.” Michael does not try to hide his irritation. “Did you really think your actions would face little consequence? You of all angels should know better.” 

The smile fades from Simeon’s lips, a storm brewing in cerulean as he narrows his eyes. Remember what you used to be, are the words unspoken. Remember how far you’ve already fallen. 

“I did what had to be done.” Unwavering in his response, the former seraph holds his superior’s gaze. “Not only for them, but for the sake of all three realms, including our own.” 

“That was not your decision to make!” Michael scowls. “Father did not order it, I did not order it, and you stole from me–”

“The ring was never yours to begin with. I believe I mentioned that already.” 

“It was in my possession.” The head seraph snarls, his six wings unfurling in agitation. “And you snuck into my room and took it. Such behavior is unfitting of an angel.”

“And letting Lucifer die, or allowing the realms to collapse is much more angel-like behavior, is that it?” Simeon’s anger is like steel – cold and cutting. “Despite everything, would you have really wanted that, Michael? To see Lucifer dead? Or have y–” 

“ENOUGH!” Glimmers of Michael’s true form begin to show, his bellowing voice shaking the walls around them, a rattle of marble and metal. “Perhaps all that time in the Devildom has gotten to your head – but you are not above Father’s laws.” 

“I never said I was,” Simeon responds quietly, refusing belittlement. “In my eyes, I was simply carrying out my duty – protecting our realm and the humans we seek to guide. There wasn’t time to convene a meeting – I barely made it as it was.” 

“You … you truly are incorrigible.” Exasperated, Michael turns and takes a few steps towards one of the large windows, his back now to the other angel. “Perhaps you have become too comfortable, Simeon. A pity.” 

“A pity?” Simeon repeats, glaring at the seraph from where he stood. 

“Indeed.” Michael falls silent for a moment, then turns to meet Simeon’s gaze once more – the anger and irritation replaced with a cold, distant look. “Father wants to see you. You are to report to the Council of Seraphs tomorrow morning.” 

Simeon’s jaw clenches, his throat tightening. Hauntings of the past begin to seep into his mind, filling him with dread. 

“You will answer for what you have done.”

Talking about later WC events with my best friend (who's only recently reading the books after mostly watching the fan animations) is so fucking funny. Last night we were kinda bouncing from topic to topic before he brought up Moth Flight and how he really hated her from my account of her story (I also hate her lol) and as a bit he was like "I know Warriors isn't THAT magical and this would be a bit much, but I wish the cats could time travel. That way they could go back in time and reverse card Moth Flight and throw her in the Dark Forest so they'll get rid of her horrible rule and keep cats like Leafpool from suffering ever again". And then he saw my face and he was like "wait are you serious"

As glad as I am that BG3 is being positively received, I hope subsequent patches later on down the road allow you to establish friendships with your companions and allow you the option to leave them at just that while giving you to be able to pursue beyond them into consensual romance, because if I ever get around to trying it out for myself I am not going to look forward to having my PC get sexually harassed over and over and over again until the NPC finally takes no for an answer and backs off.
