the bathroom ceiling
The bathroom ceiling is leaking. As it always does.
Suddenly you are seven, too bright for your own good, sitting in the living room. Mummy and daddy are fighting but it is all right since mummy and daddy love each other and it is probably no big deal.
You know for sure that mummy and daddy love you, too, the thing is that they do not seem to like you. But it is all right since you will realise this in some thirteen years when you are twenty, too mature and tortured for your age, sitting on the floor of your bedroom wondering why the hell are you telling your whole life story to this stranger on the phone.
And when you are seven you do not seem to wonder about whether you will find love or what job will you be doing for a loaf of bread. It does not matter since mummy and daddy love you so much they have no doubts that you will become an astronaut, but - perhaps - you are too chubby for a modelling job so stick to reading, darling. And so you do. Years pass and you do not even notice how the suns become the moons and all of a sudden you want to escape it all, leave it all behind and go to the countryside. Because when you are thirteen, you do not care about love, it is uncool, intolerable, unworthy, but it is all right, you will get the meaning once you are twenty, tired after your exam and work, wondering why the hell is not your phone ringing.
The bathroom ceiling is leaking. As it always does because house renovation in the modern days is an absolute nightmare. You are taking the subway because it is faster and more melancholic and public transportation in your city sucks, anyway. We know how it goes, we know the whole business, darling. We know it is all about politics and money, and women never seemed to care or have brains. We all know but we pretend we do not. The papers know it all, they know that the world is ending and capitalism is hungry for our blood and flesh, it is only a matter of time. Only fools like you, and - perhaps - me, are thinking of coffee dates at outdoor cafes and film photographs under the sunlight.
And so you take the subway train. It is a short ride since it is a small city. For some miserable whatnot reason you keep searching for shadows in the queue, wondering what the stranger had for breakfast, but it does not matter. It never did and it never will. Mummy and daddy seem to be worried about you and how you drown yourself in your laptop screen, always typing, always reading, never talking, dearest, come talk to us, we missed you. But you know it all too well, mummy and daddy never wanted to listen, they never do, they never will.
Why the hell is not your phone ringing?
The bathroom ceiling is leaking. As it always does, which got you thinking of you two and your  - possible, perhaps in the far, far future, in another universe or life - awful and leaking bathroom ceiling. You would come home with a handful of tulips while a beautiful bowl of nothing would be waiting for you since the stranger never learnt how to cook. But it is all right, it does not matter at all, you will get the hang of the things once you are twenty-five.
And the echoes of fights between mummy and daddy will become only a distant memory since you finally realised, love does not scream in anger, sometimes it may scream in agony, pain, despair, hope, or even overwhelming gentleness, but never anger. Love is not angry. It is hopelessly devoted and romantic, it is a cup of flat white at a small street cafe and an “I like your smile”. You will realise this once you are not seven anymore.
The bathroom ceiling is leaking. And why the hell is not your phone ringing? Since you are dying to tell the stranger that the bathroom ceiling is leaking, but it was never about the bathroom, but about the smiles. About idiotic remarks and unfunny jokes, it is always about the possibility of having a leaking ceiling together in some ten years, the key word being together. In this stage no one cares about leaking ceilings, they always do. You will realise this on a random Friday when you are twenty, too cool and broken to be in love, or so it seemed as that. A random Friday, a bus-ride back home, when the skies are bluer, the sun is brighter, and you are wondering what the stranger is doing right now. Perhaps, it is a meaningless cycle of life, perhaps your heart will curse you in a few nights but it is tempting, it is alluring, you want to step into the darkness and unknown and start to explore, shouting, “I have a lantern with me and I am going to be gentle”. And you are so ready to gamble with your heart that the Gods look at you from the above and think they have been the fools this whole time.
But it is all right, you will get the hang of things soon enough.

The Burnt City: NYE Remix
One month on?! I've finally written it up.
What a night. What a privilege to be a part of it. What a joy to ring in the new year in my favourite place.
I was already in the party spirit right from the start. The mood in the queue was infectious - everyone greeting each other, saying hi to old friends or meeting new ones, appreciating each other's outfits and wondering what would happen once we got inside. My heart was already full before I even entered the building.
To my surprise, they had released a cast list - and a number of the roles had two names next to them. So, as predicted, there would be some switching going on.
Sally gave her entrance speech the same as always - I didn't hear a word of it, but we all cheered at the end.
"Welcome to my exhibition," said Hades, "Part museum, part maze, part party." Oh, the suspense was killing me.
I started in Mycenae - I had a rough plan of all the scenes I wanted to hit, and 80% of them were in Troy. So I started here, because I wouldn't be back until the finale.
It was the right decision. The first remix switch of the night was the phone call to Agamemnon, which I watched from the mezzanine. The phone rang... and it was the Nokia ringtone. All of Mycenae burst out laughing. Vini picked up, and instead of Iphigenia, it was... "Hello? Is it me you're looking for?"
I've had many experiences in The Burnt City, both deeply personal and beautifully communal. But I've never been there laughing with a hundred other people before.
Not all the song choices were so comedic, but I loved it all, because all of a sudden I was seeing everything with fresh eyes. I found myself paying more attention to the choreography than usual, shocked out of my routines.
Lizzo, Taylor Swift, The White Stripes - and Whitney Houston, Chaka Khan. A mix of modern and classic hits.
I stayed in Mycenae up to Agamemnon's staircase ascent - to the music I knew from the opening titles of The Fall. Then I left, to arrive in Troy in plenty of time to see Hades (a song I didn't know) and Persephone (a song I didn't know, but I had a feeling).
My knowledge of the show served me well, because if there wasn't a scene occurring, the soundscape was mostly normal. I had to seek out the moments with songs.
I stuck my head into Peep for some water, and very nearly - very nearly! - walked out. Because I wasn't sure if Peep would be remixed or not. And I heard the intro music to Sweet Love. And I very. Nearly. Walked right out. It's the providence of the gods that I didn't, because I witnessed Nance (Mallory) singing Closer by Nine Inch Nails. With choreography to match. To Cici (Ali).
And that's when I went straight to the bar and got myself a rum punch.
Peep was a GREAT place to be. Fred Gehrig was on as his incomparable Kampe. Nathan's Orpheus led a singalong of Hopelessly Devoted To You. Sam Booth's Hades spoke-sang one of the many earworms of the night, Never Ever by All Saints.
I left Peep near the end of the loop, to catch the tango (Ain't Nobody, Chaka Khan). I also caught a glimpse of one of the performer switches - Polydorus was lying on the ground in the tenement square, and another Polydorus was stood right by him in a white mask. I wish I could have seen this switch in detail, or any of the others, but I wasn't in the right place at the right time. By the time I got to the loop 2 blinding, Hecuba had already switched to Fania.
I stayed in the Klub to watch Kampe reset (Fred Kampe shows were heartbreakingly numbered, I wanted to spend this moment with him. This night was also a send-off to the departing cast, whose last shows were just a week after this). Then, I went down to Troy square, basically to catch some of Hecuba's greatest hits.
At the birthday party, Luba was singing the impossible opera from The Fifth Element - maybe my favourite choice of the show.
I watched Hecuba's premonition about Polydorus, not because there was anything remixed about it, but just because it's a beautiful scene, and because Jordan and Fania are wonderful. I just enjoyed the moment, no FOMO.
After that was DDR, and I was dying to see what Dobbie had picked for that.
What could live up to Fire by Fatrat?
How about Moana?
The pop version of How Far I'll Go.
Sure, why not?
I never know where to go from the invasion. Run after Eury or Neo? Or stay with Hecuba? Follow Cassandra and Agamemnon??
Luke's Neo ran past me but I decided to watch Hecuba for just a moment (it's *my* remix and I can watch her if I want to!). When she left Alighieri's, I split off from the crowd and up to the Klub, where Georges Laocoön was still dancing marvellously.
Laocoön runs out, Neo runs in, and the last time that I see Luke Murphy do his absolutely devastating dance in the Klub, it's to The Weeknd, Blinding Lights.
(This is the one scene, by the way, that we have confirmed had a different song for each of the 3 loops. So it was a surprise to the performers each time.)
I went to see Hecuba in the shell bedroom, and before the scene finished, I rushed off to Peep to see You Should See Me In A Crown. Actually, Lorde's Royals. Or rather, a mashup of the two. (A perfect song for Naomi to sing, suits her voice so well)
Follow Kampe out to the Troy finale - how can things already be nearly over? It went by so quickly! I heard drum & bass, I was pretty sure I knew, and the reaction from the crowd confirmed it. The witch's rave from Sleep No More.
Everyone was cheering, whooping , hollering, and I have *always* wanted to cheer when Polymestor has his eyes ripped out, and by gods we all did. I always have a swell of emotion during the blinding and especially the Troy finale, and I felt it stronger than ever and got to let it out.
Of course I rushed off before the finale finished properly, because it was still a busy show and I could not risk any black masks stopping me from getting to the other finale.
Overall, everyone was remarkably well behaved. I didn't run into any issues with the audience - granted, I wasn't trying to follow any characters and I didn't get anywhere near a 1:1 door the whole show. But, knowing it was an audience full of regulars, I didn't even try to get a spot at the front of the circle. I hung back.
The Mycenae finale began as normal with its droning sounds. Only when everyone was down the staircase did a remixed track begin: Adele - Skyfall. And then at the end, Daft Punk - Around the World. Perfect.
Oh, how we applauded. Clapped until my hands stung. Cheered my lungs out. We filled that warehouse with all our joy and gratitude of the past 9 months.
The lights came up, and suddenly I realised I had no idea what to do next. Where were we going? I won't say much about the party that followed, except it was wonderful and so much fun and I love everyone I spent it with. And after we got kicked out of The Burnt City and the Dial Arch, I could not get to sleep the whole rest of the night because of everything racing through my head.
Kat & Carl & Naomi kept Peep running through the party, Maya and Will were on DJ duty, and Sam, Omagbitse, Ali & Jahmarley were running around being fabulous entertainment on top of it all, so extra props to them. Oh, and one more thing: We truly don't deserve Keyboard Sam.
The night couldn't have been much more perfect. Maybe this is the only SHOPTY we get, maybe it's the first of many events to come. Either way, it was special.

Ah of course....every legal assistant has to be accused of murder at least once XD
A good tutorial case, I think, could be Gregory defending Raymond bc he's so young and helpless and after that Raymond is like, "Well, now that I'm hopelessly devoted to you, what should we do?"
And Gregory is like ... hmm? But he's such a dad he can't leave this boy all alone so he's like sure come to my office :) we'll find something you can investigate
Queue the second case opening up with a very enthusiastic Raymond showing up very early and ready to take on anything

Barrio karaoke party would go down like this:
Nina and Benny would queue all these sappy love songs and they’d belt them out adorably
Nina, Vanessa and Carla doing ABBA songs
Usnavi and Benny being bros and singing some super popular pop song
Someone queues Señorita by Shawn Mendes and Vanessa swears to kill whoever did it
Dani and Camila just sit on the side and film their antics for future purposes
Sonny and Pete just dance while the others sing
Usnavi getting drunk and dedicating Hopelessly Devoted To You to Vanessa who promptly melts into the floor
DROP HEADCANONS IN THE COMMENTS OR REBLOGS!

i am still plugging along with CR thought lately i have not been making time for watching the actual eps, content with keeping up with the goings on in the tag lol. very limited personal free time means it’s basically all dedicated to PR watching lately. will it ever be possible for me to stop loving caleb, anyway? no. it will not.

favorite cj/danny headcannons?
Okay, I admit, this one is jumping the queue because I want to write about CJ and Danny today. I am a capricious yet benevolent bestower of headcanons, what can I say?
Danny started following CJ around on the campaign trail for the first campaign, but she never gavve him the time of day. She was way, way too busy establishing her bona fides as somebody who could be respected as a mouthpiece for the campaign, and doing anything with even the most charming of reporters would've torpedoed that immediately (Also Danny was not exactly the most charming of reporters, tbh, though he did have a certain offbeat something about him.) Danny had more access than most to the campaign because he was writing Abbey's biography and he was willing to listen to large quantities of trivia from Governor Bartlet, but at the end of the day, he was still a reporter and still an opponent. But man, was he tenacious!
CJ came the closest she ever did to giving in and dating Danny when he came back at Christmastime in the Santa outfit. Things had been hard for such a long time, and though she wasn't actively grieving Simon anymore, she still spent a lot of time thinking about what might have been if she hadn't wasted time on wondering what other people would think. Old CJ would never have kissed even Santa-Danny on the press podium, but she'd had a lot of time to think about what she wanted. Unfortunately, Danny had ulterior motives in mind when he came back to the White House, and within hours they were more on opposite sides of a line than they had ever been before. (I actually wrote a fic about this particular moment, check out In Sin and Error Pining.) By the time the whole mess with Shareef was finished and aired out, CJ had put her reputation and her job on the line to preserve her own integrity and leak the story to Danny. By that point their relationship was hopelessly tangled between the personal and professional and there was just no way through it for either of them.
Danny did keep in touch with CJ sporadically during his time away from the White House. Sometimes it was useful work stuff, tipping her off to something she might want to keep an eye on that he'd noticed in his travels. Sometimes it was silly stuff, a video of baby flamingos or an article about how redheaded men make better lovers. And sometimes it was just a few lines of text about what he was doing lately, and that he was thinking of her. CJ rarely replied; she had good intentions but never knew what to say, and an email postponed is an email unsent in her busy inbox. Occasionally she did though, sending him a clipping of the reviews of his latest book or a picture of Gail, or a harmless story of something that had happened in the White House. It wasn't a lot, but it was something.
Danny emailed CJ during the MS scandal, after the debacle with "relieved" in the press room. He told her not to quit, and though she had no idea how he was so sure she was considering it, she took his words under advisement.
CJ didn't meet Danny's family in person until after the administration, but she got a deluge of phone calls and emails basically the moment Danny said he was dating somebody at Christmas that year. Nobody else in Danny's family had much interest in politics, so CJ being Chief of Staff was much less intimidating to them than it might have been to others. Margaret had to develop a very sophisticated call-screening process to avoid offending anybody while still letting CJ do her work and keep her sanity. By the time CJ actually met the whole family, it was no surprise at all to see how similar they all were to Danny in both looks and personality.
After the end of the administration, Danny doesn't pick up a steady gig for awhile. He's got a book contract and another couple of ideas kicking around, and he sends in columns from time to time to keep his hand in, but he's got other responsibilities to deal with. CJ is his full-time job for the first little while, until she finally breaks the surface of exhaustion and burnout enough to notice his subtle hovering and wave him off. Once she starts with the Hollis Foundation he devotes more of his time to writing again, something that isn't quite as exciting as political reporting, but is much better for his blood pressure and his relationship. As a side benefit, writing a Bartlet biography gives them plenty of reasons to visit New Hampshire and let CJ continue the slow process of rehabilitating herself after a decade in the most intense and painful levels of national politics.
Although Danny basically proposed the night he told CJ they should think about jumping off a cliff together, it's nearly eighteen months into the Santos era before he coughs up a ring and pushes his courage to the sticking point. Even for him, maybe especially for him, it's hard to know how CJ will react to certain things. He keeps it private on their own veranda, just in case he's misread the situation, but as it turns out, her first question is "What the hell took you so long?" which of course starts another playful argument. Eventually they double back around to the part where she actually says yes and they get the long romantic kiss and glasses of champagne.
The talk about kids is a little weird because neither CJ or Danny are quite sure whether or not they actually want one, but it feels like a conversation that should be had quickly or never, given their ages. Danny puckishly suggests just leaving it up to chance like all the best Catholics do, and CJ laughs and agrees, figuring that at her age, nothing at all is likely to happen. She throws up for the first time in an early-morning board meeting three months later. They both decide that God is obviously some kind of comedian, but both find themselves warming to the idea of parenthood quickly. Neither of them would've ever been in the position to parent at any earlier time in their lives, but right now it actually seems doable. It's not a great pregnancy and it ends precipitously a couple of weeks early with an emergency C-section, but CJ and the baby both come out okay. The kid, a girl, is named Josephine because Josiah is a little weird for a girl's name.
CJ is absolutely done with politics after her stint in the White House (or so she claims) but Danny's fascination is lifelong. After the Bartlet biography he starts writing the story of the Bartlet presidency, using his wife as his best resource. Her friends are also quite helpful, especially after a few drinks. The Cregg-Concannon family settled on a spacious home just outside Santa Monica and often invite friends to visit from all over the country. This is especially easy during the winter months, because most of their friends still live in DC, which is terrible. CJ takes trips to various African countries and Danny goes on a couple of book tours, but for the most part they are homebodies, enjoying the chance to stay in one place most of the time. It's nice to be able to make that choice, very peaceful. When Josh and Donna get out of the White House, with Josh just about as burnt out as CJ ever was, their first stop is in California to get some advice on how to live like real people again. CJ and Danny are happy to give it.

When a Scot Ties the Knot by Tessa Dare
Tumblr media
Rating: ❤❤❤❤
Genre: Historical Romance, Highland Romance
Release Date: 25 August 2015
Synopsis: On the cusp of her first London season, Miss Madeline Gracechurch was shyly pretty and talented with a drawing pencil, but hopelessly awkward with gentlemen. She was certain to be a dismal failure on the London marriage mart. So Maddie did what generations of shy, awkward young ladies have done: she invented a sweetheart.
A Scottish sweetheart. One who was handsome and honorable and devoted to her, but conveniently never around. Maddie poured her heart into writing the imaginary Captain MacKenzie letter after letter … and by pretending to be devastated when he was (not really) killed in battle, she managed to avoid the pressures of London society entirely.
Until years later, when this kilted Highland lover of her imaginings shows up in the flesh. The real Captain Logan MacKenzie arrives on her doorstep—handsome as anything, but not entirely honorable. He’s wounded, jaded, in possession of her letters… and ready to make good on every promise Maddie never expected to keep.
When a Scot Ties the Knot is the third book in the Castles Ever After Series by Tessa Dare and it is easily my favourite of the series. From what has been a fairly lacklustre series thus far for me, this one really stood out. Not only because the hero was Scottish (which a huge plus in my book), but the heroine wasn’t a typical bluestocking. This can also be read as a very funny, very charming standalone.
Madeline Gracechurch has what we now know as Social Anxiety Disorder. The very thought of crowds terrify her, she is an accomplished amateur artist, and is happiest in her own company. She enjoys sketching nature - primarily the mating rituals of her lobsters affectionately called Fluffy and Rex - and is content with the way her life is. Her letters to who she thought was the fictitious Captain MacKenzie she had thought she had found the perfect way to avoid any and all social situations. After all, who needs balls when one already has a sweetheart?
“I think you underestimate my capacity for taking normal human interaction and making it awkward.”
Logan MacKenzie (the not so fictitious sweetheart) … He’s mad, he’s kilted, he’s got a burr that makes a woman’s knees weak. When he shows up on her doorstep he has one thing in mind. Marriage. He’s not above a little blackmail to get what he wants, but it’s all for a good cause. His men. Men that have had their land taken from them. Men who are irreparably damaged from the war. Men who need a home. As their Captain, Logan takes it upon himself to secure their future.
“Most lasses like it when a man kills the bugs. Along with reaching high places and giving sexual pleasure, it's one of the few universally popular qualities we have on offer.”
Naturally affection begins to blossom between the pair, especially once he realises that she is not some spoiled English brat. She is smart, kind, and caring with ambitions. In Logan, she had a friend for the first time. Their relationship is very give and take and at times wildly hilarious.
“The love of books was an instant connection, and a true boon for a girl who tended toward shyness, because it was a source of endless conversation. A hundred questions sprang up in her mind, jostling with each other to reach the front of the queue. Did he prefer essays, dramas, novels, poems? How many books had he read, and in which languages? Which ones had he read again and again?”
The story was unique and really quite different to the rest of the series. It was really quite sweet and it was essentially about two broken people coming together on their terms. Sometimes a book will just leave you smiling from start to finish. This is one of them.
The character interactions were funny, sweet, and downright hot at moments. The side characters really filled out the story and truly this is Tessa Dare at her best. This is a light read, but it’s a good one perfect for the beach or in front of the fire. It will warm your soul to see two such people get together and find a measure of happiness.
If you enjoyed the novel Tessa Dare has released a second epilogue that is available here.

Aokana: Four Rhythm Across the Blue (Ao no Kanata no Four Rhythm) has been in my queue forever but I keep scrolling past it, decided to finally sit down to it today. Pretty much from the first episode you know what’s going to happen, the twists and turns are pretty predictable, and in the end even the characters that have been just righteous a-holes all along suddenly turn friendly and understanding with the upbeat music playing in the background, so yeah... it’s one of those anime, but it was still a pretty good time. The concept behind Flying Circus (yes, that’s really what they called it lol) is fantastic, I totally loved the strategies and competitiveness of the game - this alone made it worth watching to me. There are some goofy parts, like the sport being called Flying Circus and the best athletes at it being from Europe, specifically England, and honestly so much of it is chibi shoujo, but it’s feel-good fun from start to blatantly obvious end, doesn’t go overboard with the fanservice even though almost all the cast are female (seriously, there aren’t any romantic elements to the whole show aside from the comedic yuri troupe of one girl being hopelessly devoted to the other), and is built around a pretty freaking awesome sport concept. Basically, Aokana is pretty much one, big, 5hr long hug. Was not sorry I watched it at all.

Stage management and 10 minute performance
During our work experience we worked on a 10 minute piece of our choice. My group chose to do a snippet of the musical Grease. I played the part of Marty as I had played that in a previous production and already knew the song ’ Freddy My Love’ and was comfortable performing it. We had three songs throughout the scene we chose which was the Sleepover Scene. The songs we had were ’ Freddy my Love, Look At Me, I’m Sandra Dee and Hopelessly Devoted to You’ Beth was our Stage manager and Katie was our director. Being a stage manager means that you call the show and sort the queues for lighting and sound and making sure all props needed are in the correct place. To achieve this, you need to create ‘a book’ which has all the queues and information you would need to run the show being performed so that anyone could understand it and put the show on. This requires information such as a full script with lighting and sound prompts, a props list, a list of music ( if required) When we performed our show I think it went really well. Our audience seemed to enjoy the performance and the singing very much and I had great fun performing it.

To achieve this, you need to create ‘a book’ which has all the queues and information you would need to run the show being performed so that anyone could understand it and put the show on. This requires information such as a full script with lighting and sound prompts, a props list, a list of music ( if required)
When we performed our show I think it went really well. Our audience seemed to enjoy the performance and the singing very much and I had great fun performing it.
