Aloy Confirmed as Queer in New 'Horizon Forbidden West' DLC Romance
Throughout the first two games in Guerrilla Games and Sony Interactive's Horizon series, protagonist Aloy (Ashley Burch) does not have much time for romance. Although there are a fair number of mostly male characters, who expressed interest in her, even the "heart" dialogue choices always led to Aloy shooting them down. But that has all changed in the newly released Horizon Forbidden West DLC, Burning Shores, which was released exclusively for PlayStation 5 on April 19th.
Tumblr media
[Contains spoilers for Horizon Zero Dawn and minor spoilers for Horizon Forbidden West and Burning Shores.]
Set after the events of Forbidden West, Burning Shores sees Aloy's begrudging ally Sylens (played by the late Lance Reddick) send her to a flooded series of islands made of the post-apocalyptic remains of Los Angeles to hunt down a surviving member of Far Zenith, the main antagonist organization of the second game. Upon arriving at the titular shores, Aloy meets Seyka (Kylie Liya Page) a marine from the technologically advanced Quen tribe. The two team up to take down the Far Zenith and rescue Seyka's sister and tribe from his clutches.
Tumblr media
Throughout the DLC's main story questline, players spend the majority of their time fighting alongside Seyka, a notable change from the base game, which has Aloy primarily adventuring alone aside from brief scenes and quests where she teams up with an ally. Aloy shows interest and concern for her, unlike that of her other companions, including resting her hand on Seyka's shoulder at one point and awkwardly praising how great the Quen warrior is.
At the conclusion of the DLC, Seyka confesses that she has been thinking about what she wants to do after they finish their quest and confesses that she wants to be with Aloy. Players have the option to reject Seyka's confession but not in any way that denies Aloy's queerness, either saying, "I'm not ready for this" or "This is too much for me." However, players also have the option of reciprocating her feelings.
Tumblr media
If Aloy confesses that she shares the same feelings for Seyka, the two share a quick kiss before saying goodbye, bound by their own responsibilities and unsure of when they will see each other again but hopeful with the knowledge that they are out there thinking of each other, setting up exciting possibilities for the future of their relationship and romance for Aloy in the next Horizon sequel.
Check out the kiss and their full romance here:
youtube
There were previous hints of Aloy's queerness in Horizon Forbidden West. In the game's story campaign, they meet a member of Far Zenith from the distant past who was romantically involved with Elisabet Sobeck, the scientist from which Aloy was cloned, making her an exact genetic copy. Although it is unknown exactly what role genetics play a role in queerness, many fans pointed to this as evidence of Aloy being gay.
Given Aloy's resistance to others' romantic interests before, some fans also speculated that she was asexual. Although Burning Shores disproves that theory, there is still evidence that she is grey-asexual or demisexual. After completing the DLC, if players return to the memorial outside their base, Aloy confesses that Seyka is "really special" and that she "never thought [she'd] feel this way about someone." From that, we can gather that Seyka is Aloy's first love, and we hope to see their romance continue in the future.

Based on the lovely art #148 by maglorslostsilmaril (lovely author AND writer!), this is a collection of short stories about the different daughters of Fëanor and the chaos that seems to pursue them obstinately. Beta-ed by the amazing cuarthol (again, excellent author, please go check it out!!!)
It's a series of ludicrous, humorous, and often light-hearted incidents with softer (and sometimes slightly sad) undertones.
We hope that you'll find some pleasure in this; I have taken a few liberties when it came to ages and timelines in order to make all the babies meet and this is far from canon-compliant.
Basically, it's a happier retelling for all the characters, a re-do if you so want, and I truly hope that you'll feel the love and the hope in it.

Ghost of the Ten
Horizon: Forbidden West
Hekarro x Fem! Old One OC
Action/Adventure/Romance/Hurt/Comfort
Chapter 9
Part 2: Ghost of the Ten
~~
"It's not always just the heart. Sometimes your mind breaks as well." -R.H. Sin
~~
It comes like a raging wildfire. Rapid, destructive, and all-consuming before he can even comprehend the emotion.
His vision blurred as his heart pounded in his chest, threatening to burst out of it. He pressed himself against the wall, feeling nothing but the ghost of the violent weeping of the Old One - Victoria - in his arms. With each inhale, her grief was like blades slicing into his soul.
Regalla's screams shatter the silence, echoing through the night like a thousand shards of broken glass. Tears stream down her face as she holds a tiny body close, rocking back and forth with him in her arms. His heart is shatters too, pain coursing through his veins like molten lava. Everywhere he looks, there is nothing but emptiness, darkness, and sorrow. He can feel the weight of guilt slowly crushing him from the inside out; everything that matters is gone.
And it's all his fault.
Hekarro threw himself against the wall, his shoulder protesting with a shock of pain through his body. He welcomed the sensation, wrapping himself in it as he furiously struck the wall again and again until blood ran down his arm.
Not again, he told himself, shaking with visceral anger. The searing ache of his mistakes and failures burned in his mind like a never-ending inferno, no matter how hard he tried to forget. His fists clenched so tight they left bloodless indentations in his palms as the vehement rejection and hatred of his past bludgeoned his spirit.
He had to stay rooted in the present and not allow those memories to consume him again.
Never again.
Hekarro sank to the floor, leaning against the wall until he eventually landed with a heavy thud. As his adrenaline wore off, exhaustion began to take over, stealing away all of his rage and sorrow. His bedroom became clear again in his vision, but the feeling of familiarity was absent. He lay there in a trance, completely emotionless.
Time passed in a crawl. He wasn't sure how long he sat there, the world muffled and distant while he was lost in thought; but as the numbing fog began to lift, a calm melody drew him back to reality. He was surprised to see Dekka sat beside him, her hands busy weaving an intricate pattern in a rainbow of vibrant hues. He hadn't heard her enter; she had simply taken up residence at his side, content to let his grief run its course in time with her tune.
"Marshal Kotallo told me that the Old One was informed of what had happened," she said eventually. Hekarro simply grunted in reply, his head slumped against the wall, too tired to bother about the dried blood on his arm.
"Maybe we should think about what needs to be done with her," Dekka suggested quietly.
"She can't see," Hekarro murmured, "I think we should wait until she's no longer at a disadvantage before deciding her fate."
Dekka nodded, her face softening as she set down her weaving. She pulled herself up with a grunt and slowly made her way to his desk. With a soft murmur, she tugged out an aged chest and opened it, fishing out a well-worn medical kit that she carried back to him. Kneeling beside him, she gently nudged him forward so she could examine his shoulder.
"Superficial." She said after a moment of observation, taking a cloth so she could clean the wound. He was aware of the weighty regard of her eyes on his neck as she worked. He hated that she knew, yet it still brought him some modicum of comfort. How could it not? Through all his life's ebb and flow, their paths had been perfectly entwined. Every joy, every sorrow. Even in times most bleak, when death took away their dearest loved ones, there was still a shared understanding between them.
He couldn't ask for a better friend.
Hekarro winced as Dekka applied the medicinal herbs and bound his wound tight. Satisfied that it wouldn't come undone anytime soon, she then patted his arm and muttered, "You should really get some sleep."
He was too exhausted to even argue as she helped him stand up and guided him towards his bed. When he finally dropped onto the mattress, the darkness welcomed him with its embrace and pulled him into slumber in an instant.
The jungle is deathly still. Even the wind, which usually whispers through the trees, seems to be holding its breath. The only sounds left in the world are the echo of Hekarro's footsteps, crunching over old leaves and root-covered stone; and the whir of the insects: a thousand crickets singing their endless rhapsodies. His weapon feels heavy in his hands as he clears vines away with his machete.
Yet the acrid smell of burning lingers in the air, an ominous scent of smoke and death.
The jungle releases its grip on him, and his heart thunders in his ribcage. He trudges through the moonlit sands of the desert dunes. The sight before him is of utter devastation; the village burns and families cling to one another, their cries of grief so loud and powerful he feels it in his very bones.
Amongst the molten ruin, he sees her, her silhouette surrounded by licks of orange and crimson. She weeps over the lifeless body of a young boy cradled in her arms. His heart shatters into dust at his feet and he sinks to the ground with her, gently caressing the boy's face. Dark eyes that once beamed with innocent joy now stare blankly and despairingly at an unforgiving, starless sky.
"We all sacrifice something in the end, don't we?" The woman hisses, and she turns her glare up to him. Her eyes burn with hate, and he hesitates,
"Regalla, I-"
"Why did you sacrifice him?! Me?!"
He has no response, not even the beginnings of one when the boy turns his emotionless gaze upon him,
"Why are you still here and I'm not?"
Hekarro jolted awake, gasping and clawing at Dekka's wrist as she pinned his other arm to the mattress. Dekka watched him apprehensively, her chest rising and falling from the strain of restraining him. Her arms were tense and her feet rooted to the floor; it was evident that Hekarro had put up quite a fight in his sleep.
"I'm awake." He muttered, and he released her wrist as she let him go. He passed a hand over his face, his blood boiling and his thoughts muddled, and a glance through the broken wall revealed that it was well into the night. He leveled a tired, but inquisitive glance to Dekka; she wouldn't have woken him unless she thought it absolutely necessary.
"Machine attack? Rebels?"
"The Old One is missing."
Time dragged for the eternity it took Hekarro to stare up at Dekka in utter shock. In an instant, he was off the bed and sprinting out of the room. He could almost see it all playing out already - the chaos that would erupt if the guards discovered an intruder, the panic that an Old One was amongst them would cause. He had to track her down and find her before it was too late.
"Where is Aloy?" Hekarro questioned as they dashed through the rear corridors and along the arena walls to the open floor below.
"Gone, as well as Marshall Kotallo and Beta. Aloy's sister required a special medicine for the Old One, and Kotallo went with her as protection. Your champion went hunting for machine parts for Beta. All three left a little more than an hour ago."
They paused before the tunnel entrance, "Where are the rest of the guard?"
"I dismissed them for the night," Dekka replied, "Many are getting a little too curious for their own good, so I thought it was best to just guard the entrance myself."
Hekarro’s heart grew heavy with dread as he realized that the problem was steadily getting worse. He knew that he would have to address it sooner rather than later, but for now he needed to focus on the task at hand.
"Has anything transpired since Aloy and the others departed?"
Careful eyes scanned the ground around them, but there were too many tracks to single out his quarry.
"All was quiet for a time," Dekka said, gesturing towards the crumbling battlements near her. "I did hear noises from the western wall, but when I went to investigate there was nothing more than loose rocks and evidence of birds nesting in the area."
"And the Old One? When did you notice her missing?"
"Just before I came to wake you. One of the night guard came to offer me food, and I requested an extra bowl to take to the Old One in case she was hungry. The bed was empty when I arrived."
Hekarro confirmed Dekka's story for himself in the stark silence of the underground facility. The blanket lay discarded, tossed aside haphazardly in Victoria's hasty escape. He picked his way around the tangle of plastic tubing, half broken, some parts torn. White medicine, sickly sweet in its scent, dribbled out over the floor.
"Did you check the rest of the facility?" He asked Dekka as she hovered in the doorway.
"Yes, Chief Hekarro," she replied, "It was the first thing I did before I came to wake you."
"Do a perimeter check." He ordered, "Tell no one, but keep an ear out for any reports of an intruder."
"As you say!"
Dekka left in a flurry, leaving Hekarro alone in the room. He stepped back to survey it one last time, for Victoria was blind and weak—if she had snuck past Dekka, then she couldn't have gone far. In the dim light, something glimmered on the floor—liquid medicine that had spilled out of its container in a stuttering trail. Hekarro followed the tiny droplets from the facility and back out into the entrance of the arena, taking care not to disturb any ground along his journey.
He lingered just inside the threshold and closed his eyes. Hekarro felt the delicate caress of the breeze as it drifted through the jungle. In the distance, he heard the hushed conversations of the evening patrols, and a faint aroma of food coming from the Maw. In his mind's eye, he saw Dekka on guard just a few feet from him, ever watchful as she scanned her surroundings. Unaware of the Old One at her back.
Hekarro let his mind wander at that thought and slowly opened his eyes; he lowered himself to a knee, attempted to imagine the world from the perspective of the injured Old One. Scared, alone, with no way to fend for himself. From where he knelt, he easily found the imprint of Dekka's post in the sand close by. His gaze rested on it for a considerable length of time, eyes squinting in contemplation. If Victoria was blind there was no way she could have seen Dekka standing guard. She would have surely given herself away.
Half-blind then, Hekarro mused, a few feet of blurry vision but still enough to give her a chance. He looked down at the sand, saw a few fist-sized rocks and stones among the grains. He grabbed one, feeling its heft in his palm as he calculated how far it was to the western wall. Without warning, he pulled his arm back and chucked it at the distant wall with all his strength. It smacked against the barrier with a loud thud, and he imagined Dekka running over to investigate. He had to give credit where it was due Victoria had certainly been clever in her attempt to escape.
Hekarro quickly rose to his feet, holding onto the wall as he slipped free from the stretch of tunnel. He took off in the opposite direction until he arrived at an entranceway carved into the wall—the machine pens, where the arena trainers kept the machines for drills. Empty now, but Victoria would have no way of knowing that.
Downward he descended, assured he now knew where Victoria had wandered off to. Every step set the shadows aflutter from the torchlight affixed to the old stone walls. The silence was occasionally punctured by the whisper of sand shifting beneath his feet and the strong rhythm of his own heart reverberating in his ears. Hekarro peered into the first enclosure when he came across it, and moved onto the next when he found it empty. A process he repeated until he finally spied the shadow of a figure huddled in a far off corner.
The pen was dim and he couldn't make out her features, but he didn't need to. He heard the quavering breath and knew she was weeping, and every shuddering exhale only further confirmed it. He lingered there in the dark, unsure of how to approach her. He didn't want to startle her, nor did he want to argue with her. However, before he could figure out what to do next, she lifted her head and gazed in his direction. The shadows cast across her face hardened and he could feel the sting of her glare.
"You know, for someone so big you sure are light on your feet."
Hekarro couldn't help but laugh. It must have been his exhaustion, or maybe it was just that he admired her candor; very few people talked to him the way she did. He welcomed the change from the constant groveling and extravagant compliments he was used to receiving.
"Experience is the best teacher," He replied as he slowly moved closer, stopping just out of arm's reach of her before settling down into a comfortable cross-legged position. "The marshlands devour the loud and the careless."
She stayed silent, and the tension between them grew heavy. He studied her in the dim light of the machine pens, wavering on the brink of what to do. He knew that if he decided to take her back to the underground facility he'd have to put her under extra guard to make sure she didn't try to escape again. It was unlikely that such action would endear her to them.
She broke the stillness with a question that echoed his own musings - "What now?" and he smiled slightly at her timing.
"I'm not sure," He answered honestly, "I had hoped to have a few more days to decide what to do with you."
The silence that filled the room was more oppressive than any machine he had ever faced. Then, so quietly he could barely make out her words, she asked-begged of him, defeated and sad-,
"Please tell me it's a lie."
His heart broke and he yearned to give her what she desired to hear, but--
"I have nothing to gain by lying to you."
Hekarro felt the shuddering anguish of Victoria's every breath, as if it were crushing his own fragile heart. He watched helplessly as her hunched figure fell into despair. He struggled against the guilt that overwhelmed him for refusing to lie to her.
"You'll see the truth of it yourself when you've recovered."
The air was heavy with the despair of her muffled, broken sobs. He watched helplessly as she wept in anguish, her despair a wound that bled raw and unhealed. Knowing there was nothing he could do to ease her suffering, all he could do was sit in the gloom with her -- bearing witness to her grief and sharing in its sorrows.

fanfic writer questions
Thanks for the tag, @foibles-fables!
1- How many works do you have on AO3?
29!
2. What's your total AO3 word count?
286,054!
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Most frequently, Critical Role, though I still have a few WIPs in Horizon and Stray Gods that I absolutely intend to get back to eventually.
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
I'm fudging this question a bit, because the lower three are all the same series from back when I first started writing two years ago. Unsurprisingly, Sing for Me (SG, Rated E) and Prometheus Bound (HFW, Rated M) are the heavy hitters, followed by the Tilda POV series with a slightly more modest kudos count. After that comes Through Eyes of Grace (SG, Rated T) and Mutually Assured Destruction (HFW, Rated E).
5. Do you respond to comments?
I do! I think the only fic I didn't respond to most comments was When the Darkness Comes, since it was 30 chapters posted all at once. It somehow felt like skewing the stats (which I realize is silly; I'll likely respond to all comments on any on-going long-fics, after all). But yeah, I like to lavish love and gratitude and enthusiasm onto commenters, since they go out of their way to do the same for my stories~
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
Prometheus Bound BY FAR.
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Probably my entry for the Horizon Rare-Pair Round Up event: Radiance.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Not to my face or in my fic comments. Or even out in the wild very much, to my knowledge.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Yep! Enemies to enemies who FUC- I mean, lovers. A lot of focus on zoomed in physicality details and hard feelings from characters who would rather do anything than acknowledge their feelings (like idk hate fuck it out). I joke but I also have some softer smut for Stray Gods and my Moon Moms AU.
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?
I never have!
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Also not that I know of.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Not yet, but my lovely friend @inomakani and I now have multiple fic ideas/drafts we like to scream at each other about, and we'll write them together as well, one day~
14. What's your all time favorite ship?
Do I even have to say it? I mean, I will happily shout it from the rooftops: IMOGEN/OTOHAN!
15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Hmmm... There's an old draft called "Aloy is ticklish" that was a fluffy lil Aloy and the GAIA Gang+Talanah one-shot that I likely won't dust off ever again for no particular reason.
16. What are your writing strengths?
Succinct-ish but evocative setting description, I like to think. Internal feelings, and how they're expressed externally through small details in body language. And Tension, of course.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Dialogue; "would they say that??" is a recurring question for me.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
I would do so if needed for characterization purposes!
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Horizon! Specifically, Horizon Forbidden West!
20. Favorite fic you've written?
Oh wow that's a hard one... Since I'm in the midst of plotting (and now writing!) its sequel, I'll say Let Me Lay Waste to Thee. It's my first (well, thee first) Imogen/Otohan fic that kicked off my love for this beautifully fucked up ship :3
It's a free for all tag, folks! So feel free to snag and tag me~

Yes, yes another text post from me. I decided that i currently want to “retire” from posting Horizon Stuff & the community, for a while. Sadly, Burning Shores caused a lot of drama in the community and splitted it so bad that I am just exhausted being part of it. The Week the DLC released was horrible... nothing but drama and more drama and just reading all about it (there was legit no way of escaping it) made me realize that I got a bad burnout again and need a break. (more under the cut)
I still haven’t touched Burning Shores, even after the hype about my other Game vanished. Because of everything that has been going on, the review bombing, the hate against Julie Elven on Twitter, the anti-shit against everything, I decided to make this decision and just leave for now. Last year, after Forbidden West came out, I already suffered such a burnout, but mainly because I was talking nonestop about it with other Fans, hence my Account was on break for a while, apart from some reposts now and then. In general, burning shores wasn’t what I hoped it to be. I dislike that the ending scene had such a huge impact on everyone and this wasn’t also what I wanted it to turn out. I never wanted the stupid companion system either (which was, every time, horrible implemented) and I just wanted it the way it was in Zero Dawn. I don’t want to go back to this again, since I already posted about it. But in general, I didn’t liked the outcome of Horizon in general. I am not really excited for 3 at this moment. My account obv stays active, nothing will change, it is just a break I am taking. I will post less from myself tho and occasionally reblog and will rather be more active on my sideaccount (littlejadecrystal). Since my sideaccount is not bound by 1 single game but more about everything I like (games and movies and whatever). Cheers, and have a nice one.

Monster Hunter Rise, and God of War came to PC, Rainbow Six Extraction finally escapeed development hell - and, the day some said would never come: Windjammers 2 came out in January. Right off the bat, we got hit with several big releases we spent a lot of time with. January started things a little slow this year, but not quite as uneventful as in past years. Like with every year’s list, it will eventually break into segments for the different months as the year takes shape. If you missed it, here are all video games released in 2021. Keep it bookmarked, and check back often to see when a game you’ve been waiting for is going to be released.
#THE DAY BEFORE XBOX UPDATE#
Release dates change all the time, and some developers go dark months at a time, but we update this list daily and try to say on top of it - so things will shift around and get added/removed very often. We’re bound to miss a few, but the majority will be here. As always, this list keeps track of as many video game release dates as we can find. It’s the year of Elden Ring, Dying Light 2, Windjammers 2, Horizon: Forbidden West, Warhammer 3, Saints Row, and many, many more.Īt least, that’s what it looks like right now, as some of those games could very well be pushed back yet again.īut let’s stay positive and take a look at what is unquestionably going to be a banner year in video game history. It is finally time! 2022 is the year where most of the bigger, highly-anticipated games from last year ended up.

HFW Glitched Photomode Spots 3
Some of these spots might already be known about but I figured I would make a easy to find list of some cool spots to take pictures. All these are doable/available in Patch 1.17. Underneath Far Zenith Base Part 1 Location: Left side underneath Far Zenith Base Instructions: Once you have access to the base (https://youtu.be/G6cJK2uj33w) you can go through a lot of walls. Note: Underneath the Far Zenith base is a mess but you can usually call your mounts to get around or out. If you follow the way I went you get stuck in water that flashes depending on which direction you face your camera (I cut that out). You can see a pair of stairs in the water through the wall.

Far Zenith Base Cave 1 Location: Right side of Far Zenith Base Instructions: Once you have access to the base (https://youtu.be/G6cJK2uj33w) you can fly in to the cave. Note: The water seems to glitch and trap you if you touch it so you need your Sunwing to fly close to get out.

that hzd/hfw feel of wanting to know all the things and watch people play the game whenever I'm taking a break from playing myself but also the need to not get spoilered too terribly (already failed quite badly at that but doing my best to try and not think about what I know)
the need to get on with the main quest but also the need to do side quests but also the need to just roam and see where my feet take me (usually to places I'll return to later for quests, like with that place where we picked up Beta. I know I was there bc it was already uncovered on my map before I got there) and also the need to clear up every rebel outpost I come across

i know, he knows, that he’s killing me for mercy.
İstanbul Havalimanı,  14/2/2018.
Hope and helplessness felt eerily the same; almost like joy and rage when tilted on its head. Hafiz wished that she could have held onto the hope and joy for a little bit long before reality set in. Hindsight w a s twenty twenty, right?
The balmy curve of her lips and love sunken eyes painted her usually stone like expression with colors that she’d never seen before. The fissures in her wings have been paved with the hopefully excitement for her journey. Hafiz launched herself off the literal edge to chase the taste of love; a notion that had been since unattainable. Frantic fingers tossed the essentials into her carry on like the crisp passport that had begun to collect dust in her drawers. A few scraps of clothing and the money she’d asked Ceylan to exchange for her. Finally, she’d plucked her journal up from her desk with such tenderness. Flipping through it, she slipped the money into the bound before her gaze swept over the pink swirled date stamped with her signature scrawl. Today was the day Hafiz grew the courage to live. There was no time to pack the pristine easel that faced the marmalade muddled horizon catered to her greatest passion. Hafiz shifted the orchids out of the sun, knowing that they’d need all the help they could get to survive on their own.
With one last glance, she’d fired out of her bedroom with a new found pep. Her nimble feet barely hitting the ground as she floated on literal air.  Passing through the grandiose corridor, she passed sweet goodbyes to the few staff members that had grown to be her private inner circle. They just didn’t know that this goodbye wouldn’t be as temporary as the nights before. Parts of her hoped their ignorance would dull the impact of her disappearance; they were the only one who would notice anyway. Hafiz avoided the west wing, her father’s office sunken into the depths like a forbidden fortress, a place no woman was merely allowed unannounced. Her memories of being summoned remained as bleak as her expectations for life s t u c k in this palace any longer.
Hafiz wafted in the brimming chaos of the airport. Throngs of people embarking their own courageous beginnings or heartfelt ends. She didn’t mind the cramped feeling of being confined to common areas of the terminal. It only reminded her the lengths she was willing to go to live a life filled with meaning. Settling between two families, she subtly watched them anxiously prepare their children for the flight. Tiny hands spread out like wings of the great aircraft that would bring them far from the hazy warmth of home. She hung off every encouraging word uttered by the raven haired woman who bared the same friendly expression as her children. Selfishly, she envisioned her own mother encouraging her to be b r a v e for her in the face of such uncertainty. To look to her when it got too hard and to hold on tight when it all became too much. Hafiz hugged her duffle bag closer to her chest to calm the bittersweet flutter in her heart; for today she didn’t have to lose. Instead, she could hold onto Daisuke in the face of her uncertainty.
 Flight 0214 now boarding.
Her excitement drifted farther away with each row of people checking in. Hafiz’s heart kicked up with fury with each approaching shadow to only be let down. He’s coming. He’s coming now. Her words softening with each pitiful excuse poured over the attendant who called for the remaining straggles to board for last call. Hafiz called a dozen times and enjoyed the symphonic sound of silence after the beep. She posture deflated as she sank into the plastic seat, her duffle bag swinging between her parted knees.
The once cerulean sky had faded to an aloof indigo but she sat undisturbed. Her hope cooling and cracked like paint left open. Hafiz barely registered the light touch from the well dressed figure. The glimmering shine of her family’s crest twinkling off the man’s cufflink. A signature embossed symbol stamped on all of her father’s minions. Swallowing back the tight feeling in her throat, their words mumbled to the static between her ears, Hafiz rose from her seat with a defeated nod.
Your father is waiting.
“I know,” she whispered. A single tear staining her cheek; it had been the last tear she shed.

Top Games I’m Looking Forward To in 2021 (Part III)
And so it is that I am finally at my last post of this series, of top games I am Looking forward to in 2021. This will probably end up being a slightly shorter list as I’ve already covered so much in the last two, but there’s still some things to talk about that I could not miss out on, so here we go.
Halo Infinite.
Despite all that seems to be going wrong with the development of Halo Infinite, seeing how it’s had multiple developers leave, even from some high positions, I can’t deny that I’m a massive Halo fan. While my Xbox is largely used for my physical Indie games, one of the few series I play on it is Halo, and nothing is going to stop me from being excited for Infinite, lest we find out it’s Cyberpunk 2077 all over again. Whatever Halo Infinite becomes, a Destiny style game, or it’s own unique service to that kind of game model, I’m excited to it see it come to fruition, and to play it for myself, so we fully understand what all the trailer we saw most recently, was really all about.
Horizon Forbidden West.
Horizon Zero Dawn is one of my favorite PS4 games of all time. It’s excellent combat, a story far beyond what one might expect for a game of it’s style, and it’s amazing side quests really make it a game that stands out among the crowd of open world titles. Aloy has become one of my favorite characters in gaming, so to be back in her world, and to see what we can see in this seemingly expansive, and beautiful yet dark western location, is something I can hardly wait for. While I’m not personally a fan of Sylens, this game has a chance to turn me around on him, or make me hate him the way I’m supposed to, instead of just disliking the fact that he’s in the game at all. Who can say exactly what’s coming with Horizon Forbidden West, but whatever it is, I am ready to experience it, full of hope that it can somehow surpass the original.
12 Minutes.
One thing these lists have been missing is some Indie games. While I could probably make a separate list for them all together, I think instead I’ll talk about them now. Of all the upcoming Indie games that I’m interested in, 12 minutes is way near the top. The idea itself not being wholly unique, it is one that can be used to create something unique. 12 minutes, a game about a time loop (one of three big games about in fact) looks to take the formula in a hopefully new direction, giving you such a short time to try and do things correctly, in the face of a murderer, who might be going after a murderer. Being a husband caught between such a wild set of circumstances, is bound to add to the drama, and intrigue, this game is sure to provide. If there was a reason to own an Xbox beyond Halo, this is it, right here.
Way to the Woods.
I am not giving up on this game. Way to the Woods was set to release in 2019, than last year in 2020, but the developer himself has said he currently has a goal set for March 29th 2021, on the official website. Whether that’s a release or not is not entirely clear, but something is coming by that date, I’m sure of it. Way to the Woods sees you playing as a Deer in what appears to be a post apocalyptic earth, where humans are all but gone, and only remnants of their existence is left. Train tracks, shopping malls, and museum’s, these are still here. What really exists beyond that, who knows, but the mother deer you play, seems determined to get her child to whatever woods they may be going, and I’m determined to see how this stylish, beautiful Indie game plays out.
Season.
It’s hard to know what Season is about other than a guy taking and drawing pictures, over what appears to be a single season, but it’s beautiful music from the trailer, and astounding visuals, make it a game to look out for when it drops on PS5, hopefully sometime this year. I’ll admit I’m a sucker for games that remind even slightly of a Studio Ghibli film, and Season reminds of a few of them. The road the main character is biking on makes me think of Kiki’s Delivery Service, the vast green field he walks along reminds of Castle in the Sky, the world of Season is just incredibly breathtaking and I cannot wait to explore it, and got lost in what I hope is wonderful piano heavy soundtrack. Everything about it looks to be so enjoyable, so I can only hope, it does release this year.
Lost in Random.
I don’t know if it’s the Tim Burton style visuals, The Nightmare Before Christmas style music, the eye popping combat, or...hey, it’s actually all those things. Lost in Random just looks like it will be a lot of fun. A type of game you play on Halloween, even if it’s not really a horror game, just to remind you what claymation style visuals can do in a video game, and in your head. If you ever found yourself a fan of something that is creepy, unsettling, but yet not completely horror centric, Lost in Random is the game for you and I cannot wait to get my hands on it. Hopefully, after not hearing anything for nearly 7 months, we’ll see the game get a release date, sometime this year.
The Outlast Trials.
Going from something that isn’t quite horror, to something that clearly is, The Outlast Trials should really spice up the Outlast style of gameplay, offering you potentially temporary allies that you get to watch die in the same horrible ways that characters so often meet their fates in these games. While information about the game is pretty lacking, not much more is known beyond the previously mentioned temporary allies, and the fact that you get night-vision somehow implanted into your brain, the game looks like it will be bring the scares in a way that only Outlast can, and maybe with more shock value than ever.
And I think that, after multiple parts of varying length to each list, covers my most hype games for this year. Did I miss anything in the other lists, or this one, that you’re excited for? Let me know in the notes below, feel free to leave me a follow no matter where you find this list, and have a great and wonderful day.
