The other night I dreamed that I was in this sort of. creepypasta-adjacent LARP or VR or something, where you got attacked by various monsters and things, like some animatronic-mascot, or Senthia (a Mimi-Sentry-adjacent robot-girl anthropomorphization of a TF2 sentry-gun) or whatever; I know music from Slender Fortress was going in the background of the dream. I kept getting, like, insta-killed whenever I tried to do literally anything. I decided to RP as Mokou in this scenario, with an unspecified friend taking the role of Kaguya; the dream didn't really mention the Hourai Elixir, but I guess "dying" as a houraijin still counted as losing or whatever? Anyway, we started playing, and Kaguya insta-killed me. Via incineration. When I woke up it was like "... wait."

"Am I immortal? ...Heh, wouldn't you like to know? Maybe Remilia managed to procure some Hourai Elixir, or the liver of someone who had taken it, so that she could have me as a servant forever~"

you are with eirin as she prepares a bit of hourai elixir just for you. as she works she goes into the intricacies and ingredients involved in synthesizing a single dose; most of it is white noise to your ears though. finally it's done and you get to try it, and as all the sensations sink in you can't help but single out the fact that it tastes exactly like the human concoction known as "Dr Pepper"

i'm looking back at that relationship chart you made for Junko a little while back and Chang'e's line to Junko just being "I am told to fear you." is just. so intriguing to me? we always see it from the opposite angle, Junko's hatred of Chang'e (which to be fair is the case because Chang'e is more or less non-existent in actual touhou), but i would love to hear your Chang'e's perspective on Junko's existence
so alot of my headcanons regarding junko and the capital i dont often go into. cant lie. its straight up just cause im bad at drawing backgrounds and if i was going to id want to REALLY be happy depicting the capital UNFORTUNATELY i cant so im trying hard to improve on that when i can LOL but thats not what you asked so lemme go into it, My Chang'e never met Junko. She never has and its likely she never will. When she descended to Earth, Hou yi who was married to Junko (quite forcefully in her side of things) grew infatuated with her he planned to kill his current family, being Junko and Bo feng, but could only end up killing his own son. he fled and convinced the moons princess to marry him, in grief junko had become what we know of, granted, she was significantly more violent. Yi was paraded as a hero for his commanding work with the army, he was rewarded the hourai elixir, which he planned to share with Chang'e. while Yi was out with his lil troop of soldiers however, A Mysterious event occurred. Junko had been tracking the guy down and bare hands absolutely fucking KILLED the shit out of him. news reached chang'e and in her own grief of losing the man she loved, she drank the elixir as a tribute and ascended back to the moon. important to note here. chang'e has no idea the Horrible things Yi actually did. but up on the moon. they sealed her in prison for eternity, for her sin as well as her connection and control over the moon rabbits, a subconscious trait of hers. Junko, up on the moon, isnt common knowledge. They try *very very* hard to make sure word of her even Existing gets out. its harder to keep a society under wraps when people are living in fear of being invaded by someone that actually poses a threat to their well being and lives at any minute so only very high ranking people know of junko, as well as people that work in lunar security or the lunarian military. Chang'e was warned about her. That she has to stay inside that her holding cell at all times. She was never told what or who junko is, just that shes dangerous and should be feared. Someone with the power to end even an immortal life. Purification is truly a terrifying power. So. Junko knows Chang'e a bit too well. shes done her research extensively on the capital. she often likes to proclaim that no one knows the capital better than she does, not even the lunarians. but Chang'e has no idea about Jun, just that she supposedly exists. even that shes not sure about... the things she was told though sound very scary. Hopefully they arent real.

Hello, I know this is a very specific request, but could you please use thprac invincibility and get really close to Eirin during Hourai Elixir in Imperishable Night and shoot her. I heard you can deplete her healthbar using Marisa, but I have no idea if it's possible to deplete it fully. There is a youtube video of it without using cheats, but it only goes until half of lifebar, since the bullets had to be dodged and the player lost the proximity then. Could you please record a video of it? (I can't make thprac to run on my computer to test it myself)
Thank you!
Using invincibility and timelock I was able to shoot her down

tbh if gensokyo can't survive heat death I doubt the hourai elixir could either bc ultimately that stuff is still fuelled by human belief in an elixir of immortality. arguably that's its active ingredient

Eirin Yagokoro's 禁薬「蓬莱の薬」 Forbidden Medicine "Hourai Elixir" survival spellcard from Imperishable Night, together with Kaguya Houraisan. The gifs above illustrate how the spellcard looks on Normal mode.
The only big difference between difficulties is that during the second and third phase, the spellcard makes you move counterclockwise on Easy and Normal and clockwise on Hard and Lunatic. Below, you can see side by side gifs from Normal vs Hard.

Hecatia constantly trying to convince Junko that Chang’e can’t even be killed because she drank the Hourai Elixir so that they can finally go on that dinner date she’s been planning for twenty years instead of spending the day at home plotting another failed homicide.
Is this even true? I don’t know, but sometimes you just want a normal date.

For Kaguya, immortality is being infinitely alive. It is joyous and infinitely so. After growing up in a world eternally between and devoid of life and death, to experience life is all she ever wanted. Life, death, good, bad--she wants all of it, and with the Hourai Elixir, she has it. There is so much life out there to see, and she has all the time in eternity to enjoy it. Oh, sure, it seems that person after person wants to hide her from the world and hide the world from her ‘for her own protection,’ but, really, a whole society and a distance of 382500 kilometres could not bar her way. What is a mansion and a forest compared to that?
For Mokou, immortality is never dying. She can blow herself up, burn herself to ashes, and still wake up in the morning. She can die infinitely and never die. For much of her life, that has been a misery. All of the existential despair of living without direction or purpose or meaning dragged on into infinity. But the thing is... that with time, it became a blessing. Because there are joys in her life and there will continue to be joys in her life. Transient joys, and eternal joys, and all kinds that make life worth living. If she had been able to die when she wanted to, she never would have seen them... but then again, if she had, she wouldn’t have also had to survive all those miserable centuries. There are ups and downs and, if she has no other option, best to enjoy the ups for all they’re worth. It’s been said that you can do anything forever as long as you know you can stop at any time - I think if Mokou could die, she wouldn’t, but it’s not having the choice that pains her.
For Eirin, immortality is the ultimate fruit of her unassailable genius. You might ask “but what about the ethical and existential concerns? What is it like for you to be immortal?” and she will smile and redirect the conversation to be about her work anyway. Is she too proud to admit to the negative effects of her work now that she’s realized them? Is she so confident and self-assured that she simply will not perceive them? Is it because, as goddess of thought who has already lived for billions of years and will continue to live as long as there are thinking beings, immortality makes really very little difference? ... In fact, could it be that she was always destined for eternity--As embodiment of thought and also a thinking being herself, could she sustain herself unto infinity--could she be Cogito Ergo Sum made flesh, the self-evident, absolute, and undeniable truth that thought proves the existence of the thinker even if all other reality ceases to be or never was?
Unknown. And irrelevant.
Eirin is a perfect mind and so everything she designs is necessarily also perfect. Not only the Hourai Elixir, but also all of her other medicines, and also the lunar society that she was architect of, and the gilded cage she keeps Kaguya in, and the thread of doubt that may one day unravel her her counter-plan that foiled Yukari’s second lunar invasion

"Wait a minute. There's no way the Moon would know that I had somehow drank the Hourai Elixir unless they somehow put a tracker on me one day. They'd only learn that I somehow took it if they saw me revive somehow, so they'd likely still let me in if I made sure to be careful."
Tumblr media
"...This begs the question of if my sister somehow drank it too..."

"Well, either way, this means that I could still hunt after Princess Kaguya and take her back to the moon." She's coping.

one of my favorite touhou bits is still how kaguya was executed for taking the hourai elixir. the one that makes you immortal, makes it so you cannot die, you cannot be killed. that one. for the crime of not being able to die she was punished by death.
