A QUICK GUIDE TO AO3 CUSTOMIZATION FROM SOMEONE WHO KNOWS NOTHING ABOUT CODING

note: I originally posted this to twt but if that place burns in a fiery pit I spent too long on this for it to disappear, so I'm putting it here too :)

so many people know way more about this than I do, but this is a step-by-step walkthrough of the changes *I've* made, and hopefully it works as an introduction people can build from for whatever they'd like to do

to start, AO3 skins

site skins change how the AO3 website appears when logged in (even on mobile), mine is pink and blue!

I'll have my skin turned off throughout the post so the guides appear as they will for you

to create, edit, and view skins, go to the "skins" tab from the left-hand menu. you can also view public site skins from there or from the button in the preferences.

public site skins are made by other users. i would really encourage previewing and exploring them to become familiar with the possibilities (maybe you just want to use one of them and now you're done!)

to create your own skin

on the skins page, click "create site skin"

if you don't know CSS (same), use the wizard! clicking on the "?" will give more information about each option

I only use the colours section you'll see a link right there for hex codes I use pink as a header colour and bue for accent but lots of people change the background colour and that looks really cool!

The next step (optional!!!) is to add CSS from a public skin to your own. I use "ByLine" by Branch. this separates the tag categories and adds spacing to make them easier to read.

to see the CSS of a skin, click the title

copy all the text below the CSS heading

in the skin creator/editor press the custom CSS option and paste all the text into the CSS box

you can have both wizard and custom CSS settings, in mine you can see the header and accent colours as well as the CSS

level up: USERSCRIPTS

userscripts are small pieces of code that modify a website. for AO3, this may involve adding shortcuts and buttons or even advanced tagging functions (computer people, I'm so sorry if this is wrong, I'm trying). I use Greasy Fork and Tampermonkey.

This is how I write long and formatted comments!

Greasy Fork is an archive of userscripts and Tampermonkey is a browser extension and userscript manager. You don't need to use these two in particular. please use your common sense when downloading anything or adding permissions to your browser.

Install Tampermonkey on Chrome

there are TONS of user scripts for AO3. This is another good opportunity to explore all the possibilities. there are lots of more complicated options I haven't explored.

EDIT: if you use chrome you might need to turn on developer mode in your chrome extension manager - you can google "tampermonkey developer mode" and it should explain that :)

to install (once you have Tampermonkey installed):

open the script you want in Greasy Fork and press install

Tampermonkey will open, press install again

clicking the Tampermonkey extension will let you toggle scripts on and off, and opening the dashboard will let you view, edit, and delete scripts

i find i can only have a few turned on at a time before they cancel each other out, but that depends on which ones you're using and someone more savvy might be able to fix that

how to use the floaty review box - write more comments!

there will now be a "floaty review box" button at the top of the work, it will open a floating text box you can move anywhere on the page. highlighting any text and pressing the insert button will paste the text with italics into the box

anything you type in the review box will appear in your comment at the bottom of the page!

if you have also installed the comment formatting script, you'll be able to highlight any text in your comment and use the new buttons above the comment box to format it

thats all ive got! Hopefully this is a good starting point to get familiar with some of the terms and basics for skins and scripts <3

Draconity: A Draconic Zine || Info Doc

It’s time to celebrate! Let’s come together to create something for the community. Whether you got scales, feathers, fur or otherwise we want to hear from you. What does draconity mean to you?

This zine will be a collection of pieces created by nonhumans and alterhumans about any aspect of draconity they feel called to share. Also, this zine imposes no set definition on what is or isn’t “dragon enough.” If you feel like the label applies, you’re included! 

What Can I Submit?

Both fiction and nonfiction pieces are accepted. As long as what you have in mind fits the theme, it’ll probably be a-ok. 

Off the top of our head, we’re thinking of:

Essays of your personal experiences

Short stories 

Poetry 

Mock advice columns

Alternative covers

Fictional advertisements

Comics 

Recipes

We welcome you to think outside the box and share whatever inspires you about being draconic!

How to Participate

Fill out our google form to submit an entry.

A name you would like the piece attributed to 

Title of your submission

Any content warnings that you feel are necessary for the piece

Any social media handle or personal website you'd like linked in the contributor section

A logo or icon for the contributor section

**If you would like to stay anonymous let us know

Submit the form multiple times for multiple entries. Members of systems are welcome to submit individually or collectively. Please let us know your preference when it comes to attribution.

Once the deadline has passed, these submissions will be put into the zine and it will be posted on itch.io as a free PDF. 

Submissions are due by November 1st, 2025.

Submission Guidelines

Each individual may submit up to 3 works to be featured in Draconity. Comics and multi-image works count as one piece. Individuals within a system may each submit up to 3 works. All work must be your own! Anyone caught plagiarizing or submitting AI-generated work will be barred from entering Draconity and any future zines from us.

Written submissions and multi-part art entries should not exceed 10 pages. Please keep in mind the zine’s pages will be 8.5x11 and entries will be scaled accordingly to fit that size. We request all art submissions to be sent in either .jpg or .png file formats. 

For stories that use multiple different fonts, we will do our best to preserve the general "feel" of your piece but cannot guarantee we will be able to use the exact fonts or sizes due to restrictions in what fonts we have access to, readability and overarching zine style.

As stated in the summary, we will not be policing what is or is not considered “dragon.” If you self-identify as draconic you count! No portfolio or prior zine experience is needed to be included either.

FAQ

Q: Where will the zine be hosted? What will it cost?

A: The zine will be hosted digitally on our itch.io and will be free to download. 

Q: Is there a cap on submissions?

A: There is none, as long as the file doesn’t start getting too big for our computer we’ll do our best! If there are an unprecedented amount of submissions, we may have to delay the release. In the event that happens, we would communicate that through updates on our tumblr.

Q: Can I update my application after it’s been submitted?

A: Yes you may, as long as it’s done before the submission deadline.

Q: Can I rescind my submission?

A: Yes you may, as long as it’s done before the submission deadline. This is because once we begin work on the zine, having to remove content mid-way through would throw off the formatting of everything else after. Please take this into account before submitting. 

Q: Will this zine allow NSFW entries?

A: No, nothing 18+ will be accepted.

Q: Can I submit already completed/published works?

A: Absolutely! It’s ok to submit past work that has been posted to your social media or website. Our only stipulation is that it cannot have been previously featured in another zine. This helps us keep each of our annual Draconity zines unique and distinct from one another.

Q: What is your timeline for the project?

A: Our submission deadline is November 1st, 2025. Our goal is to have the zine live by the end of the year. If something unforeseen happens and we are unable to make that deadline, we will post an update about it on our tumblr.

Note: In case the mod team needs to reach out to you, AO3 shows us the e-mail address you use to log in. If you end up unmatchable or if your creator sends us a question to forward to you, we will use this e-mail address. Be sure to be able to access it, check it regularly while the exchange is running – and, if your legal name is in it, change it if you don’t want the mod team to see it! How to sign up

Click on 'Sign Up'/'Sign-up Form' on the exchange's profile page (or click here) to fill out your requests and offers.

You must submit at least 3 requests for characters and/or relationships that you would like to receive fanfiction and/or fanart for.

Fill out Request 1, 2 and 3 with 1-20 characters or relationships from the exchange tag set. You can add extra request boxes, up to 10.

Choose whether you'd like to receive only fanfiction, only fanart, or both. You can choose different media for each request.

Linking to a 'dear creator' letter on an external website, i.e., a tumblr blog post, Google Doc, Dreamwidth page, etc. with further details about your preferences, is optional. Note: The person assigned to you is not obligated to read your letter, but may find it helpful for inspiration. Please make sure your page is publicly available; some tumblr links can only be accessed by tumblr users and not all participants are on tumblr.

You MUST include a Do Not Want (DNW) list of anything you don't want in a gift, such as squicks and triggers. The mods will check your gift to make sure it doesn't contain any of your DNWs, but we only check for those listed in this text box. Your listed DNWs should, as a minimum, state whether you wish to avoid any of the four specific AO3 Archive Warnings: 1) Graphic depictions of violence, 2) Major Character Death, 3) Rape/Non-con, 4) Underage Sex. If you would be uncomfortable receiving Mature or Explicit gifts, please also mention this in your DNWs. You can have different DNWs for different requests.

In addition to your DNWs, you can use the text box for suggestions, optional prompts, and preferences. Note: Non-DNW details are optional, so your creator is not required to stick to your suggestions. But having a general idea of whether you like fluff/action/comedy/smut, the Great Crusade/Horus Heresy/M40/M42-era, your favourite tropes, art styles, etc. is very helpful to your creator.

You must submit at least 3 offers for characters and/or relationships that you would like to create fanfiction and/or fanart about.

Your offered characters/relationships do not have to be the same as your requests.

Add 1-20 characters or relationships from the exchange tag set for each offer. You have to fill out Offer 1, 2 and 3 with at least one character/relationship in each, but it doesn't matter how you group your offers otherwise. No one will see your offers except you and the mods. You will only be matched with one other participant and required to create one gift regardless of how many offers you submit.

Choose whether you'd like to create only fanfiction, only fanart, or both. You'll only be required to make one gift for your assignment even if you offer both.

Please return to check before the sign-up deadline that your offers match at least one request by another participant in the exchange.

If your offers don't match anyone else's requests by the time of the deadline, the mods will e-mail you to ask if you would like to add additional offers. If you do not respond to this e-mail within 12 hours or decline to add additional offers, your sign-up will be deleted.

Once you have filled out at least 3 requests and offers, hit 'Submit' at the bottom of the page. You have now signed up to participate in the exchange and your requests will be visible to other participants in the Request Summary.

You can edit/add to your requests and offers by clicking 'My Sign-up' on the exchange profile page. Note: After the sign-up deadline, only the mods will be able to edit your sign-up details.

"What if there is someone I don't want to be matched with?"

The best way to ensure a fun and enjoyable exchange experience is to keep an eye on the Request Summary and adjust your offers based on other participants' requests.

Maybe you'll see something that inspires you to offer characters or relationships you didn't consider before — or maybe someone requests something for one of your offers that you would rather not create, in which case it's perfectly fine to edit your offers so you won't risk matching on that particular character/relationship.

Has there been a moment where some people try to "cancel" Ash in the streamer au? Because I like to imagine it's the guys who abandoned Charizard and Pignite( their names are Damian and Shamus I think??) try to claim that Ash "stole" their pokemon and Ash's response to that is showing Charizard and Pignite the claims and Charizard just does a middle finger on camera while Ash laughs.

Oh absolutrly, but Ash is so not in the online forums, he never really finds out until he get's a bombardment of questions his next Stream.

"'When are you gonna address the Pokemon Stealing that you've done? And the emotional trauma that-', Whoa, wait a second, you guys actually think i stole a Pokemon? Hold on a sevond, i need to see this." Ash looks absolutely goddy, his prior laid back look now taught with excitement.

His hair is still askew, and his clothes are wrinkled from waking up. It's clear to the stream that he probably woke up and hoped on stream.

"'Here is a Google Doc of all my interactions with Ash Ketchum, and how he stole my Charizard from me.' Woah, this guy did his research! Cause i have a Charizard." Ash's eyes are bright, and he's reading through the document without saying anything outloud.

His lips are parted and partially moving, sometimes a word will part through his lips, but not as if he were actually speaking to them.

But the document moves, the mouse hoveribg over particular words, and Ash's face grows more and more delighted as the document goes on. He's /too/ excited about this, and it makes all viewers uncomfortable. Even so, the Steeam's view count steadily rises, from a 2,000 viewer count to nearly 56k in the span of a few silent minutes.

"So," He says after a moment, reading the document for nearly 10 minutes in complete silence. "This is all utter Bullshit chat- oh hello new peeps- anyways, this is all bullshit and i'll show you why in one simple act."

And Ash pulls up a website, still grinning ear to ear as he types in his name.

It's a Reporting Website.

"This is a Trainer Report site for those that aren't trainers." And he taps the screen with his hand, to emphasize his point. "On here, you can report the misconduct of any trainer at any given time. Each one is looked over by a Nurse Joy and an Officer Jenny, to make sure that everything is kosher. Obviously, not every single thing is gonna be reported, but if you feel like a Pokemon has been stolen and have told an Officer or a Nurse, THEY will automatically add a report."

He hits search and there are quiet a few reports on there, the search engine only showing 15 at any given time.

He had at least 3 pages.

"Some people will use this as an attempt to slow other trainers down, and you see this here." The mouse sircles around a his name on the report, colored Green. "When my name is Green on the Report, it means I submitted it, if it's red, It means it was submitted against me."

Another filter, another tap and now theres a measley 5-6 Reports on him- the names are all red.

"Now, I know when I got my Charmander- yes- he was a Charmander when i got him and not a Charizard. Should be this one." The bottom most report get's tapped and a bunch of information is put on the screen. "As a Trainer, all my information is readily available, but things like my home address and Trainer ID, are hidden- even on here- for obvious reasons. But As you see-."

Ash highlights one phrase at the very top. CLEARED OF ANY MISCONDUCT

"I was proven innocent." He grins, and scrolls down. "You see, at the time Charmander had been left abandoned on the side of a road, about a kilometer or 2 away from the Pokecenter- my mind is a bit fuzzy on the distance- we had noticed him, figured his trainer was coming back and left. Until it started raining and we later learned that the trainer had abandoned the charmander on the side of the road. Raced out to go get him, and came back to get scolded by a Nurse for 'Leaving your poor pokemon out in the rain.'"

And Ash leaned back, just in time for Pikachu to hop onto his chest, curling on the crook of his neck like a sweet little pet.

"Pikachu," He sounded exasperated, but continued forward. "Guys, i was Ten at the time, i didn't know why she blamed me, i didn't know she couldn't tell, but eventually we convinced her later that he wasn't *My* Charmander and we found him in the rain. She does a check to see if he's registered- and Nope. Completed unregistered Chamander. Either way, he goes back to the rock, we go to leave and get caught in some trouble.

Next thing i know, Charmander is saving all our hides with a strong Ember and his prior trainer comes crawling back because he seems stronger. Obviously, Charmander doesn't want that, we let him decide who he wants as a trainer and he chooses me. End of story." Ash claps his hands and then gets a little cheeky, usong one hand to situate Pikachu more onto his shoulder as he leans forward. "Also, for any Allegations of absuing Pokemon or stealing Pokemon- Yada Yada, look at my Trainer Profile."

It's scarily fast how quick Ash pulls it up, like it was practiced time and time again.

"Boom." And he highlights the Status he has a trianer and the Notes just beneath his Profile. "'Ash Ketchum has Been a trainer for 7 years-' Holy crap- 'He has been a registered REHABILITATION Trainer for 6 Years. Currently, he has had several Abandoned Pokemon under his rehabilitation status and has thus been approved. His first year as a Trainer has 3 unaccounted for abandoned Pokemom that has been approved by a Nurse and Officer Jenny at that given time.' Boom Jams baby, for all of you that had this flown over their head, trust me, shit was dense when i went through it, It basically gives me an a-okay to handle abused and abandoned pokemon. I am the one they will give Pokemon to, to rehabilitate. So of a report comes up against me, like stealing Pokemon, it is IMMEDIATELY investigated because i can loose my license for one single true report. I still have my license, and mind you- i am put under higher scrutiny because I know several people. Yeah, for those that thought befriending gym leaders would give you a get outta jail free card for this? The answer is fuck no. They press on you like no ones business."

And finally he exits the page, doesn't even bother hiding where he looked up the information. Ash is back on the google doc, and he grins again. Sit's forward with his fingers loosely locked together, elbows on his dock and locked hands neatly tucked beneath his chin.

Ash is smug, look's like a Meowth that got the Pidgey, a shit eating grin strewn across his face, one that is mimicked by Pikachu's equally shit eating grin.

"So, Damien," Ash drawls and it's clear to everyone that he's name dropping the person who tried to call him out. "Do you /really/ wanna go down the road of claiming i took Charmander? What about your other confiscated Pokemon? Ya know, i took a long time to reabilitate your Dodrio, Rapidash and Seel. Sweethearts all of them, but do they not matter to you like Charmander did? Oh! What about your Raichu? Or your Vaporeon? Man, i remenber them well, Raichu is a spitfire for sure, but he takes under Professor Oak so well now. Runs up to give me a big ole hug everytime he sees me now. You wanna start shit again? I'll risk a suspension of my license if it teaches you a lesson. Now, fuck off and get out of my stream."

Needless to say, Ash is quick to shut it all down

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS: Inky Paws #3

Inky Paws is a nonhuman anthology zine for original fiction writings by nonhumans and alterhumans about nonhumanity, alterhumanity, and similar, related themes. This zine is primarily literature focused, but will also be open to more illustrative methods of story-telling such as comics. The zine’s focus is on fictional pieces that are centered around nonhumanity, alterhumanity, therianthropy, and similar (see Submission Guidelines section for more details).

You are welcome to submit:

Poetry

Experimental fiction (fake newspapers, fake recipes, fake blogs, fake posters, etc.)

And more! If you're unsure, just ask! Seriously, please just ask. I promise I would 10000% love to hear about your idea even if you're unsure about submitting it, there is no such thing as a bad idea and I cannot stress this enough.

The piece's title or name,

A name or pen name to attribute the piece to,

Any content warnings that you feel are necessary for the piece,

Any social media handle or personal website you’d like to be published alongside your name with the piece (optional), and

Any relevant author notes or author biographical information (optional).

Anonymous pieces are also welcome.

Once submissions have been collected and the deadline has passed, these submissions will be put into the zine and it will be posted online as a free PDF. Submissions are due by April 30th, 2024.

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES:

Each individual may contribute up to 3 accepted submissions to be published in Inky Paws; individuals within systems may each submit 3 pieces, that is to say 3 pieces per systemmate/headmate/preferred term.

Comics and similar multi-part pieces count as one submission altogether: if you submit a single story that has been divided into two sub-stories for dramatic emphasis, or if you submit 10 pages of a single-story comic, or if you submit a written piece of fiction and an accompanying image that you drew or otherwise created to go along with it, that would still only count as one piece.

Submissions must fit the thematic criteria of:

Being explicitly about or based on nonhumans, otherkin, therianthropes, fictionkin, alterhumans, or similar groups, or;

Having strong themes or describing experiences strongly reminiscent of or related to nonhumans, otherkin, therianthropes, fictionkin, alterhumans, or similar such as (but not limited to):

Characters experiencing nonhumanity or alterhumanity as being a part of themselves/their identity,

Characters experiencing anything similar to a shift (including physical shifting),

Characters struggling with (emotionally, socially, or otherwise) being both human and nonhuman or alterhuman in some way,

Characters having a past-life as something nonhuman or alterhuman that strongly still impacts their current life, or

Characters desiring to be nonhuman or have nonhuman attributes.

TL;DR - Your submissions have to relate to or be about alterhumans or nonhumans in some way, shape, or form.

Written submissions must not exceed 7500 words, and must also use a reader-friendly font with a text size of or exceeding 16 pt.

For stories that use multiple different fonts, such as pieces meant to imitate newspapers and similar, every effort will be made to preserve the general "feel" of your piece but fonts may not be transferred over 1:1 due to potential conflicts with font copyright, readability, and overarching zine style.

Multi-part image submissions must not exceed 10 pages in length, and must also use a reader-friendly font with a text size of or exceeding 16 pt if they include text. Images larger than 8.5 x 11in. will be scaled down to an appropriate size; please take that into account when creating and submitting your images. It is also recommended that images be vertical or square in their orientation.

Written submissions should be submitted as a .docx file. Images and mixed media pieces should be submitted as either .jpg or .png files.

All submitted pieces should be your own work. Individuals caught plagiarizing or using AI within their submissions will be barred from participating in Inky Paws, including in any potential future volumes.

SUBMISSION FAQ:

Q: Where will this zine be hosted? A: The zine will be hosted for free download on Itch.io, where issues 1 and 2 of the zine are already hosted.

YES. Finding legitimate sprites directly from Toby Fox games can be surprisingly difficult. There are so many fan-made character sprites, that it can be hard to differentiate from the real ones!

Sprite legitimacy is a big rabbit hole that I personally don't have enough knowlege on :( ((BUT OH MY GOSH The internet is notorious for reposting fan-spriteworks without sourcing. It can be really hard to find the original artist.))

It's also HILARIOUS how many people have redone Ralsei's sprite. It is quite obvious from my Ralsei poll and through his mass of fan-redesigns, that many people in the Deltarune community REALLY LOVE his Chapter 1 sprite more.

thank you so much for this question! ☺️☺️ I'll begin my answer by saying that currently the blog is mostly running on submitted images, which come from lovely folks who have generously sent in images to be used as polls, so I won't be able to speak to those specific sources, but when I source my own images for the blog, here are some resources I use:

the Met has a great collection of digitized fashion plates! however, the search function is not great and they've grouped things into categories that aren't always accurate. so I guess the content is really good but I've found that browsing the collection isn't always super user friendly

the costumes from the 1890s that I've been posting a bit lately are all from the V&A's digitized collection of costume designs for pantomimes! the V&A is another great collection that I personally find easier to browse, although the search function still isn't great

so I guess I'll make this bullet point "museum collections in general" since there are also a bunch of other museums and library collections that have digitized fashion plate images. if you have a favorite museum or even a local one, I'd definitely recommend checking out their website to see if they might have anything!

wikimedia commons also has a pretty substantial collection of mostly 19th century fashion plates. they have a category titled "fashion plates by decade" that is really fun to browse! the one downside here though is that there's not always good provenance info, so if you wanted more details about the plate, they're not always as easy to get as they might be on a museum website

lastly (and a bit unfortunately), is pinterest. this is really not my favorite site to use since it really is a free-for-all out there and there is no verifiable provenance or even dating info, so it's extremely hit or miss. however, I do often have to trek into the wilds of pinterest for mid to late 20th century stuff, since most of that isn't old enough to be in museum collections. the nice thing about pinterest is that it will sometimes link out to other sites that actually are reputable and have good info, but it's still worth treading with caution there lol

CHRISTMAUS 2024 SUBMISSIONS

Today I am proud to announce ChristmAUs 2024! As you may have seen earlier, I have taken the reigns of ChristmAUs from @fmsdraws / @ut-poppy-askblog (with his permission). Unfortunately, I can not make a game like ChristmAUs 2023 (which you should really play Link here)! However, I do have a big plan for ChristmAUs 2024, and that plan is: Animated Christmas Card!

That's right! Unlike most of the other ChristmAUs collabs, this one shall be animated! Give your AU characters animations to bring them to life for all to see! Of course, animation is a hard, time consuming process. But with over 2 months to work, and with the simple rules on how the characters should be animated, it shouldn't be too difficult to get your character in in time!

RULES: *Submissions are open until Sunday, December 8th, 12 AM! Meaning that they are open through out December 7th and then they close! *Submissions must be in the style of Undertale and Deltarune! *No limit on the amount of characters you can submit, but I may ask you to slow down if I feel you are submitting too many. *The AU character(s) you submit must come from a publicly revealed AU that must have some content behind them other then this ChristmAUs. This includes: Art, Audio, Comic, Animation, Photography, Game, Sprites, Written Sources, or any combination of them. *No content that would be 18+. This is a family-friendly ChristmAUs! *No content that would be harmful or hurtful to anyone. ChristmAUs should be a joyous time, and hate and harm have no place in it. *No content that would violate the TOS of the majority of websites, including Youtube, Reddit and Tumblr. *You must have permission to submit the character, if you did not create them yourself! (UT and DR canon characters excluded; just link UT or DR for them.) Submission Rules: 1: Make sure you've read all the rules! 2: Give your Handle; how you want to be credited in the public. The Mai Akasaki Mystery Flower - Solved?

feat. a mini-dissection of Mai's name

Hi! I have seen a few people here guessing what the flower on Mai’s tattoo is (mostly camellias iirc)… and I think I have the answer!

I think it’s Ochna integerrima, which is also known as the yellow Mai flower. (Hoa mai vàng is it’s Vietnamese name). Yes, the answer may be that simple: the Mai flower is literally the Mai flower. It seems to match her tattoo and is a very similar shade to her eyes.

(Note: I found most of this information in February last year when I just searched ‘mai flower’ on google and saw the results and was like ‘huh?’ and went down a rabbit hole from there lol.)

The flower has great significance to the Vietnamese Lunar New year, or Tết, short for Tết Nguyên Đán. They are used to decorate homes and are in full bloom during Tết, which is around late January to early or mid-February and lasts for around 7-10 days, which also lines up with Mai’s birthday (February 1st).

(please correct me if I am wrong, I got this information from Google and I am not Vietnamese and have never celebrated this holiday myself!)

There is a legend associated with the flower as well, which I believe might help explain what happened to Mai Akasaki.

This leads me to believe that Mai sacrificed herself trying to protect the cast from a large threat, perhaps the mastermind/MonoTV, or sacrificed herself during the HPA operation that @1moreff-creator mentions in their post Everything We Know About Mai Akasaki + So Many Theories – @1moreff-creator on Tumblr. (this post is basically the Mai bible, please check it out!)

Additionally, MonoTV’s Mai-related secret quote “It’s all your fault”, and the second anniversary code with the same message, and some of the other Mai secret quotes talking about her in past tense imply that she has already passed, and that the cast is the reason why, which could mean she sacrificed herself for them... so I don't think she is the mastermind!

Her surname can also potentially provide us with clues.

“aka” means red, the same colour as her hair

“sa” means bloom or blossom, a reference to her flower tattoo

“ki” means hope, and why that is important is pretty self-explanatory if you've seen anything Danganronpa related

and "saki" means blossom of hope

(These are all Japanese meanings. I just used google for these translations, I do not know Japanese).

This means that her sharing the same name as this flower is likely not just a coincidence, but a deliberate choice by DRDTdev.

The only problems with this theory that her flower is a Mai flower (that I know of) is probably the Literature Girl Insane flowers and the flowers in the bonus episodes being different colours. For the LGI flowers they may just be different flowers altogether that are there to symbolise something else, or a different aspect of Mai... I'm not sure. And the bonus episode flowers could just be coloured differently for aesthetic purposes.

tl;dr The flower on Mai's tattoo may actually be called 'Mai', it suggests she sacrificed herself and probably isn't the mastermind and her surname reinforces the idea that her name choice is not a coincidence.

Hello!! Yes I can offer some advice

These days I use a website called The Submission Grinder:

It's a search engine for fiction & poetry markets and also a submission tracker. Makes the whole process of finding places to submit very easy!

Most publications will require a cover letter - you want to keep this to the point, here's a page w some examples:

Literary magazines generally recommend reading an issue before submitting to get a feel for what they like.

They will have a page with submission guidelines on their website, make sure to always read this in full as sometimes they have specific requirements around formatting, file type, etc.

Some magazines will ask for a third person author bio upfront so good to prep one - this should be about 50-75 words and include some information about yourself and any relevant achievements. Some people get creative with this but OK for it to be to the point.

& finally, a good way to go about it is to find the most prestigious publication that might take your work & work your way down from there. That way you should end up in the best place that'll take you!

ETA: just to add, the Submission Grinder isn't a complete database of all magazines (obviously) so also good idea to google something like 'poetry magazine submissions' and seeing what comes up.

I'm also subscribed to a newsletter called Authors Publish Magazine who amongst other things send out listings for magazines

if you have twitter then worth following some poetry magazines as in addition to announcing their own submission windows magazines often retweet each other so good way to find out about opportunities

Please read this entire thing before your decision. I understand the "blurb" may make me seem like a backstabber and someone you wouldn't trust, but I have my reasons I'll detail why this person is a former friend.

I'm a former friend of someone we'll call Marie. Marie, idk how to explain it, but she kind of didn't care about anyone but herself. Anytime someone would talk about something she'd make it about herself and it was very annoying. Marie also would make a lot of us uncomfortable at times. She said some racial slurs to us various times and claimed it wasn't racist. One was towards me and I asked her not to, basically I told her she can't call me a slur because she's white and made me feel uncomfortable. The other was some Irish thing I had to google because our friend who is Irish was uncomfortable and I'm still horrified with what I saw.

Marie would reblog my vent posts on tumblr a lot. None was ever to console me. One was where she reblogged and said "this would be a good ice breaker for a date." I did go off on her since at the time I had such a nasty break up and my vent had absolutely nothing to do with that. Now here's the issue, besides reblogging my vent posts, someone archived her reblog of my vent posts on the wayback. Multiple ones. I contacted wayback, but they said they only delete archives if the blog owner makes a statement on their blog. For reference, i have had multiple chronic stalkers and Marie was very well aware of it. So I already had wayback not allow archives of my blog because one stalker was using it to archive everything on me online. So a stalker found a loophole in the form of Marie. Now, this was before Tumblr had allowed us to disable reblogs. So no jumping to the comments saying it's my fault when this was years ago before that function was available. So, Marie refused and told me its whatever and if anything they were probably archiving her edits despite all of the archives on her blog had my vents she reblogged, like every single time she reblogged it got archived.

Now lastly, Marie was one of those people who would never celebrate anyone's victories. It was so weird, someone could say "oh, I got a new camera for my photography" and she'd say something like "in 3rd grade someone shat on my camera, so I never got a new camera". It would make stuff so awkward and make us not want to talk in our discord. I got a scholarship one year she decided to go to school (she was 12 years out of highschool) and she lost her financial aid in one semester because she didn't do any of her school work! Yet somehow "the government picks favorites and doesn't want to pay people that deserve it". Her words, I was very offended since she knew I worked full time, was a POC, and was not eligible for financial aid. Let me have the scholarship win without making it about you!

So one day I just blocked her everywhere after I deleted the friend discord we had. It wasn't right after, I waited over a year and became more and more distant. She did contact me again, but surprise surprise, she wanted me to help build her a website for her "oni-sona". I declined and we haven't spoken since.

Now the callout part. She has a callout under her new alias and it has her previous too. In this callout it's talking a lot about how she treats people like shit and uses them for her own gain. It details as well to not support her or any of her projects because she steals (idk about that, I've personally never witnessed it, but I'm believing OP because everything else is true.)

Now, would I be the AH if I submit stuff to add to the callout? I was just going to send in how she reblogged my vents and someone archived them on wayback and she refused to contact way back to delete them despite knowing I had stalkers. Maybe I'll submit more stuff, but not caring I had stalkers is my biggest gripe and something I think should be added since she allowed my stalkers to do that.

this may sound really weird. because it’s not related to anything from your fics, per say, but more real life related. HOW do you get into a good dental school. or just like. how do you get on their radar. next chapter in my life is coming up and i want answers from something that isn’t google ai or a random article 💔

genuinely any advice will be very much appreciated and taken into consideration- my entire family is business and law and i’m the only one so far looking into this feild

Oh man, there is so much to say! And I am the only dental/healthcare person in my family so I totally get it. Warning in advance to anyone else reading: this is not at all Sonadow-related (sowwy :3 ) and is very very long (sowwy pt. 2 :P )

But okay! I think the first order of business is determining what a "good" dental school is. Assuming you are in the States, there is no official ranking list for the 60ish dental schools there are. You might find the average GPA of the matriculating classes and rank them that way, but that isn't accurate because it is skewed towards the state schools. If you have a super high GPA and have multiple options to choose from, people tend to attend the cheapest school they get into, which is almost always the one offering in-state tuition. Not necessarily saying that private is better, but ignore the average class GPAs when you compare schools because it truly doesn't mean anything.

No, the best way to determine what a "good" program is (and tbh, all programs are good if you get your degree), is to find out what they will offer you in terms of clinical experience. And the best way to do this is to look and see if the dental school offers specialty residencies. This is super important because if you go to a school that has any of the nine specialty programs (such as endodontics, oral surgery, orthodontics, prosthodontics, etc.), they will get priority on cases. All the hard stuff will go straight to them, and you will not get as much experience as a result. My school had no specialty programs, so us dental students got to do everything of every level of complexity since we didn't have to share with residents. So basically, look on the website to see if the schools you are applying to have post-grad residents or not. You will get more experience at schools without those tryhard yahoos.

Assuming you are in undergrad, there are four major things that dental schools look at on your application. Ranked in importance, it's GPA, DAT score, Extracurriculars/Volunteering, Shadowing Experience at dental offices. I could sit here and spit numbers at you about GPA, but honestly I don't know what's considered "competitive," because I was NOT competitive in this category. My GPA kinda sucked. 3.55 overall and 3.17 science. Booooo booooo stoopie booooooo. (I compensated for this by being super involved in extracurriculars and being the president of multiple clubs, one of them being for a service frat that allowed for me to get a bunch of volunteer hours.) In addition, I had a decently competitive DAT score which helped. A lot of schools have a minimum DAT score cutoff of 17 for any of the categories, but obviously aim higher (max is 28-30 depending on the scaling of each individual test). Imo being at or above 20 is very solid and will put you on any school's "radar," so to speak. I had an academic average score of 21, and here was my breakdown (just so you can see the stats of someone who got accepted):

Gen Bio: 19

Gen Chem: 17

Orgo Chem: 18

Math: 22

Perceptual Ability: 25

Reading Comprehension: 28

As you can see, I hated chemistry. Anyways. That's not the point.

BECAUSE THE MOST IMPORTANT THING (AND THIS IS IN ALL CAPS BECAUASE IT'S THAT BIG OF A DEAL) IS SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION ON TIME. I don't remember the timeline, but I think it opens in May for you to start filling out, and then you can maybe submit it on the first of June or something like that, idk I would look it up. Basically, you can't fully submit it without your DAT, so make sure you take it early summer or during the spring semester before you intend to apply! I took my DAT in late august, realized that with my score I didn't have to take a gap year, and then ended up submitting my application end of September/early October.

DON'T DO THAT!!! DO NOT. DO. THAT!!!

Many of the schools I had applied to were already done with their interview cycle by that point!!! It's a miracle that I got two interviews!!! Everyone I told my application story to was shocked I got in!!! Submit your stuff on time to give yourself the rest of the summer to take care of the secondary application stuff they send you, so that you can start receiving interview invites in the fall. And trust me, they will roll in, as long as you submit it early!!!

Another random thing, but don't waste your time applying to state schools unless you're either from that state, or from a weird state with no dental school like North Dakota where you know they have some special consideration for you. I'm pretty sure most state schools prefer state residents who intend to stay in that state, so it'll be a waste of your time and money to apply to a state school where you don't live. I'm from California and our two state schools are stupid competitive, so I think I only applied to private schools. So just keep that in mind!

Lastly, unless you've already declared your major, embrace the things you enjoy. Make sure you get your prerequisite coursework done (and you can see what these courses are on the websites for the dental schools you're considering applying to, they're all slightly different), but also study stuff you actually like! I was a Biology and English double major, and I really think those two things helped me "stand out." It was certainly a unique combination!

It was a lot, and my program is known for producing good clinicians (research on the other hand, we're pretty lacking in tho lol), but yeah I really can't recommend my school enough! I feel really prepared.

(Also sorry if telling you my stats was kinda weird. I just feel like I am a really good example of someone who got in for something other than just numbers, and that if even my goofy ass could get in, you can too! Use my mediocrity as inspo LMAO)
