𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘴 𝘐 𝘢𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘬𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨…⁣ ⁣ _____⁣ ⁣ There’s a sameness where we live in California that forces me into survival mode: never-changing skies, sapping desert heat during the summer days, people who have never been anywhere or lived any other stories than the ones they’ve been handed.⁣ ⁣ I know there is security in this kind of life for people, but I can’t desire it. The “sameness” I need is merely a safe place to land, a familiar jumping-off point, a home for dreaming and growing and holding hearts — not for “doing what we’ve always done.”⁣ ⁣ We’ve been here in #Charleston for 5 days now, and I keep noticing the weather, the way it shifts the sky and flows easily between sun and clouds and storms and calm. There are colors layered into the clouds that I had forgotten, and thickness in the air that seems to cleanse the lungs (even with the smell of the Carolina plough mud filtered through it 😂).⁣ ⁣ The changing weather is meeting a deep need, healing something in me that the sameness has broken, reminding me how my rituals at home help my emotional weather shift so I don’t feel like I am merely surviving my life. ⁣ ⁣ I think about what I wouldn’t know if I hadn’t risked this trip, this bicoastal living change we’re trying, giving what we have to give, loving people hard in our way, even when it requires more than we often have to give. ⁣ ⁣ The light comes in, even through the clouds, and rain brings life, and there is healing in energy that moves through the storms. An October throwback to the perfect setting for the black @erikapenaofficial dress that took me 3 years to find (and this gift of a photo from my dear friend @clfctcwrs ). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ _____ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I am sooo sore this morning. 😅 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ We’re expecting a lot of rain over the next two weeks, so I made a workday out of the gorgeous sunny day we had yesterday, and just DID all the do-list items that have been piling up around our tiredness: filling the dogs’ holes, rehanging the patio lights, pulling in the hammock, moving a tree, pruning my roses, hosing layers of dirt off the patio rug, running laundry that had been on the line since October, and decluttering the house (again). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I finished off with an epsom salt bath almost too hot to take, and a cold shot shower before falling into bed around 8:15pm. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ This isn’t a normal day for me. Like ever. If you know you need to restart, 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘵.⁣ ⁣ ⁣ _____⁣ ⁣ ⁣ I’ve always known I was a kinesthetic learner, but would you believe I never really sorted what that means? “Hands-on,” I thought, “involved.”⁣ ⁣ But no, it’s actually a “𝘯𝘦𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘮𝘰𝘷𝘦.” ⁣ ⁣ To grow. To try things, even if I haven’t read the instruction manual or invested in the mastermind or gotten the training.⁣ ⁣ I learn by doing, by moving from the first thing to the last thing, sometimes in an organized fashion, sometimes wandering down every rabbit trail.⁣ ⁣ But when stress or trauma or grief introduce a deep freeze, it can take months to recover.⁣ ⁣ I try for deep healing.⁣ I identify root issues.⁣ I call out my limiting beliefs.⁣ I give myself permission to rest.⁣ I seek personal care/therapy/connection.⁣ ⁣ But if I don’t 𝘮𝘰𝘷𝘦, I stay frozen.⁣ ⁣ October-December were months for honoring commitments, supporting people, moving everything and anything because I said I would. ⁣ ⁣ I showed up.⁣ I created momentum.⁣ I went through the motions.⁣ I went into a deep freeze.⁣ ⁣ ⁣ ______⁣ ⁣ ⁣ I fell asleep on December 31 wishing last year away, dreading the thought of showing up for 2022.⁣ ⁣ But there’s something about January just 𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘯𝘨.⁣ ⁣ The days haven’t locked down. ⁣ Time is still moving.⁣ Each breath brings me into the next breath.⁣ ⁣ So I lift one foot and move a step forward. ⁣ I don’t know where I’m going or what I want yet.⁣ ⁣ I take another step.⁣ ⁣ I try something new.⁣ I’m still breathing.⁣ ⁣ I’m moving—slowly—but I am moving.⁣ ⁣ You can only start by starting.
