“You Can Have It” by Chelsea Cutler

Singer, songwriter and producer Chelsea Cutler takes on the happy side of love in new single, “You Can Have It.”

Follow up to the mutually agreed upon break-up song, “Walking Away,” fans continue to get a taste of the singer’s upcoming album with this latest release. Laid back and carefree finds Cutler enjoying the simple company of a love since they “got nothing baby but time.” With a similar vibe to a Jason Mraz or Jack Johnson song, “You Can Have It” is as original as it feels familiar. Given Cutler’s usual more emotional tone, the single shines as bright as the young love that she’s singing about.

Cutler’s debut album How To Be Human released last January as these new singles showcase the artist’s first solo release in over a year. Fans will see the songs come to life as she tours with frequent collaborator Quinn XCII this fall who falls under the same managements company, Mutual Friends as the Republic Records artist. So aside from the obvious financial issues, I’m terrified of going to college because....

 We all know some college some professors will be like, “Look to your left, now look to your right.  One of those people won’t pass this class.”  Incompetence isn’t a flex and like how does your boss feel about that ratio? 

But like even the professors who don’t do that have attendance policies like “Every class you miss after three absences will take 1% off your final grade”.  And will try to fight your accommodations. 

On the other hand, I’m struggling through high school in an online school with teachers who want to help me succeed, and actually take action to do so.  If I can’t maintain a balanced routine in this environment, how would I in an institution full of people working against my success?

Of course nobody says “If you’re disabled or chronically ill I’ll take whole percentages off your final grade” explicitly.  Nobody says “The school accommodates this, but it inconveniences me, so I’m going out of my way to not have to”. Explicitly.  If you have a PHD and can’t read between the lines idk what to tell you.

And on the topic of financial issues:  I already have to worry about being able to afford to live.  Why would I go into debt for an institution set up in a way that doesn’t allow my success?

Honestly, I’ll just go Khan Academy, the only education that matters is free and accessible.  I’ll give up teacher interactions, just to avoid the ableist interaction.

The Chapter on Making Friends

Until recently I really haven’t understood how friendship works. Like how do people make friends and keep them? I have people who I’ve considered friends for years, but not like *friends*. If you asked me if I was friends with a person, I would answer yes, but not because my relationship with them was any different than that of any other person I know fairly well; mostly because to call them just an acquaintance seems rude.

Lately, people have been asking me to *hang out*?? Like- consistently?? And start conversations with me?? Is this what friendship is?? It’s kind of a lot of work. I’m so used to sitting uninterrupted in my own thoughts, that I almost prefer it. Not healthy at all, I realize.

“Walking Away” by Chelsea Cutler

Republic Records artist Chelsea Cutler releases first solo song in over a year with latest single, “Walking Away.”

After teasing a clip of the song on her Twitter over a year ago Cutler finally drops the fading love song that finds two lovers mutually coming to terms with the end of a relationship as she sings:

Written and produced by the singer herself, the lyrics and production show growth and development in the rising artist as she highlights two people naturally growing apart. In addition to production, Cutler brings her guitar skills to the table through the use of slick and melancholy guitar strums that highlight the organic end of a once bright love. The magic in the song is real as it did nearly half a million streams on Spotify in the first 24 hours which marks her best solo debut ever.

Although her first solo single since her debut album, How To Be Human released in early 2020, she’s kept fans fed with new music through various collaborations. Teaming up with Louis The Child, The Band CAMINO, Noah Kahan and frequent collaborators Quinn XCII and Jeremy Zucker, Cutler has kept busy as she worked on the sophomore album.
