ever since chapter 108 tbhk has been getting progressively worse, after reading chapter 112 i had to take an hour long lap around my room before i could write this 😭
Chapter 112 analysis/thoughts
❗️obviously, chapter 112 spoilers❗️
aoi is seemingly less popular, and the burden of that has been lifted, her and nene also being much closer.
Tumblr media
ALSO WHAT?? Like ok lesbians
Tumblr media
Mei’s alive, which kind of confused me because she died due to illness?? But i guess not if shes here
Tumblr media
This page really intrigued me, not because of kou or anything but because of what aoi says
Tumblr media
She refers to teru as “teru-kun” differing to that of what she used to call him
Tumblr media
Which i guess means she’s close to him too
after kou runs back to the stand it shows this
Tumblr media
Kou and mitsuba??? HE’S ALIVE?? This is literally all we get of them so i don’t have much for this part
Nene singing at the play, having a thought just at the back of her mind, thinking she was wanting someone to watch her, but not sure who
Tumblr media
Until they’re finally done, everything’s quiet, she looks up at the crowd to see
Tumblr media
Hanako?? Im not quite sure if he was actually there or if she was hallucinating or something but she remembered him, enough to remember his name. ALSO HE KEPT HIS PROMISE AUGH 😭💔
Tumblr media
i dont have much to say for this because i really dont know whats going on but im interested to see what happens next w/ them
This next part especially killed me
Tumblr media
Teru is distressed, he’s fucking devastated, he feels betrayed and hurt by the only person he’s trusted as much as he has, teru reacts impulsively when it comes to something that weakens him. akane was right when he referred to him as a little kid, he is like a child, he does not know how to control his emotions since he wasn’t taught, and sure as hell not having a mom made it worse
also his face 😭 my mans is HURT
Tumblr media
Him not knowing if he should treat akane like a human or like a supernatural hurts me. this reminds me of the picture perfect arc with hanako and nene, akane being in hanako’s place and teru being in nene’s. akane making the decision for the greater good that he doesn’t even fully believe in, just as hanako did when he made shijima make the painting
Tumblr media
I have so much to say about this panel its insane
Tumblr media
The tension goes CRAZYY but also wtf
The demotion from “aoi” to “clock keeper” back to “aoi” shows he really doesnt know. Also showing he really did trust him, but now that he’s done what he did, he doesnt know how to feel about him. The “you really let me down” again suggests he didn’t at one point, and he did like him. GOSH AidaIro sleep with one eye open tonight
Akane looking worried like that shows he really did care about teru too, and what he thinks of him, i mean like look at him he looks disappointed too, but in himself
Tumblr media
His face he feels so bad 😭😭
Tumblr media
Teru gripping his tie like he’s onna run away 😭 my mans ur ON TOP OF HIM i think you got him
Tumblr media
Teru looking progressively more worried/concerned as akane continues explaining whats happened
Tumblr media
Teru’s perspective shot on the top left is painful like the rest of this chapter, him looking down at akane with a face of disbelief, as akane removed his hand from his tie, and redoes it, explaining the rest.
again, reminding me of the picture perfect arc, with the whole “be here long enough and you’ll forget your past life” with again, akane in hanako’s place and teru in nene’s
Akane says this could be a better present for Nene, and we see her initial hope of being popular come true (also taking aoi’s problem away, as stated at the beginning)
Tumblr media
but he also says this could be a better/more preferable present for teru aswell, which makes me want to see how teru’s life changed, and what akane considered something teru would want, and what he lost to gain it. (like how nene gained popularity but lost hanako and the connections she made bcs of meeting him)
Fuck i just realized something. Akane was under the impression teru has a crush on aoi so what if he made them closer as in like dating closer SHE CALLS HIM TERU-KUN is this what akane meant by “some people might prefer this ‘present’ over the former one. could be you president.” HUUH
i have a problem with saying “this will never happen, i know it wont, and i wont even consider it” and genuinely will be under the belief that it wont, but then it fucking happens and if thats what happened here i might as well archive my acc
Tumblr media
Back to the current topic, as a wielder of time, an important part of making this present, is making sure there is no way his memories will be replaced too, or so im guessing. He says "some" and “their” instead of "we" or “people like us” when talking about the people that will forget the old present. Meaning if akane des remember, he will be so indefinitely alone and self aware (him knowing so much more than the rest of them) and have to play along with everything. Everyone else has the comfort of forgetting, which will make it much easier to adjust, meanwhile if things stay the same, akane will be the only one to remember and will be like this for as long as they stay like that.
Which i like this new one, as mitsuba and kou can be friends without one of them literally being dead, and how aoi can be more open and is closer to nene, but if this is how it ends (obviously not this chapter but if it ends with them staying in the new present) tbhk is so fucked.
its kind of a win-lose, lose-win type of thing, but either way akane’s cooked.
Todays a rough day for everyone 😭

META ANALYSIS - Mitsukou (part 1)
General topic - how they’re written as a one of the romantic couples in the story
Before I start, I need to say few things:
1. I’m not native english speaker. I’m probably going to make a lot of errors and mistakes, mix times, have a lacking vocabulary etc. Please be ready for it. I want to write my meta post anyway, so I would be happy if you will stay to the end with me!
2. If you do not like Mitsukou/hate this ship or anything like that - maybe this post it's not for you. It's totally okay to ship different thing and like different things, I don’t mind. My post is not a starter for a discussion tho, I’m not interested in discourses, argues and hate. I don’t really plan to “prove” anything to anyone or force you to change your mind, whole post is only MY analysis and my point of view. You are not obligated to feel the same way I feel, to see things the same way I see them.
3. I’m not interested in proving if Mitsukou is going to ever be canon or anything. I don’t know that. I’m also not going to analyze if they’re ever going to be a CANON COUPLE or an ENDGAME COUPLE. It’s only about if they’re written as a romantic relationship, and being written as a romantic couple =/= being a canon couple, they’re a lot of pairs in media that definitely are written as a romantic relationship without them being together ever or being an endgame. I’m not going to speculate about endgame, especially when one of the characters is supernatural and one is a human.
Okay, I think we can start now!
Let's start from the beginning. Because my first language is not english my post may be a little bit chaotic, putting all my thoughts in at least some order and with at least some sense it's actually hard, haha. In part 1 I will try to cover the first meeting between Kou and the ghost of Mitsuba.
So!
They first met during chapter 18. And it was meeting between Kou and ghost of a Mitsuba Sousuke, so it wasn’t our currently Mitsuba - it worth to mention they're not the same person, even if they are extremely similar, share a lot elements of their personalities, they look nearly the same, and current Mitsuba even share some dead Sousuke's memories because of School Mystery No. 4 Shijima Mei and her Picture Perfect arc. Still - not the same person and Mitsuba Kou met in chapter 18 is not the current Mitsuba.
At the beginning they're not really that much written as a romantic, their short arc was more like something starting Kou’s personal arc and his development. He got some background, some motivation, some angst, he changed. For most part Kou behaved pretty normal, just like himself - a selfless, lively boy that really wanted to help a lonely, sad ghost that Mitsuba was. (he wasn’t traumatized yet). Even if some of their interaction could be readed with a shippy glasses, there wasn’t anything that was inherently romantic about them.
Tumblr media
I think it's kind of ironic how this is literally their first panel in the manga. Mitsuba literally looks like some kind of eldritch horror and he says “Did you forget about me?”. Yeah Kou, did you? This quite sums some elements of their arc. We know that Kou actually did forget about Mitsuba, who was one of his classmates. Also, Kous' trauma, related to everything that happened to Mitsuba, hunts him for the rest of the story. He also, clearly has a problem with recognition of both Mitsubas, with dealing with Ghost Mitsuba death and with the idea of forgetting someone and leaving someone. We also know that, when current!Mitsuba was made by Tsukasa, he didn’t remember Kou. That's why this quote here is very ironic.
Tumblr media
There is nothing really to analyze here but I find it funny. Yeah, you quite literally just haunted the wrong guy and it’s going to be a problem for you and said guy for the next 15 volumes of the manga. Good luck.
Tumblr media
Even after calling Mitsuba an “evil spirit” Kou still tries to help him and even decides to “take the big tough guy approach” to make Mitsuba feel safer about him. Kou is not really “the big tough guy”, even if he tries to pose as one. He is a 14 yo kid with kind of fucked up situation in life, even, if he doesn’t recognize it yet.
Tumblr media
Maybe you could learn something from Kous stupid earning, mr. boy who DIED in the car accident.
It's definitely not an accident that Mitsuba died hit by a car and Kou has a BIG earning with a big caption “TRAFFIC SAFETY”. Even after reading all chapters up to 103 I’m not really sure how I should interpret this exact symbolism in their relationship, but it's definitely done on purpose by the authors. I think it may symbolize that Kou, with a “traffic safety” earning will save Mitsuba, who previously died in a traffic accident from dying another time? Like, now Mitsuba have Kou by his side and maybe Kou will manage to keep him safe. His earning is mentioned by Mitsuba too many times, it's done so we can notice it, for sure. And I wonder how it turns out.
Tumblr media
It’s the first time Mitsuba suggests that Kou either has some kind of feelings toward him, tries to do something dirty towards him or something similar. Every time he just jokes or tries to provoke Kou or something like that. At first I thought it's just how Mitsuba is, some people love to joke like that, but then I noticed, later in the story, that Kou is quite literally the only person Mitsuba ever does this to. Sure he does not have many friends “his age” but still during the manga it would be possible for him to behave like that toward other characters, but he does not. He jokes like that only toward Kou and I think during the next parts of my writing I will point it out more.
Tumblr media
Even after 20 minutes of insulting he is still concerned about Mitsuba. That's so funny and sweet.
Tumblr media
Yeeeaaah sure it totally does not relate in any way to the fact that ghost Motsuba got to die after taking a photo of KOU out of everything yeeeeaaaah nada nope. It's crazy how the authors planned this because Hanako really started as some kind of funny manga about kids and ghosts and supernatural things, but the angst we get later is actually top notch and kinda scary. There was few moments I really had to like, stand up and walk in my room because of the emotions I felt after reading.
Tumblr media
Look how happy he is with the idea of being a model to the Mitsubas photos. He is bright, smiling and even blushing. The next ironic thing is how he cried after actually seeing a picture of himself made by Mitsuba. Also I like how prominent his earning is here.
Tumblr media
Mitsuba is very particular, he really made pictures only of animals, plants and other non-human things. That's probably why his photo of Kou hit me like a train. That's literally narratively confirming that Mitsuba saw Kou as something (someone) he likes, someone that is important to him. Kou also realized it after seeing the picture, that was one of the reasons why he was so devastated.
Tumblr media
There are few things about that whole scene I would like to point up. The first are doves. Mitsuba, especially Ghost Mitsuba, is often presented with doves as a form of his symbolism. Doves and cherry blossoms are probably the most prominent symbols of his character. I’m not really that good when it comes to symbols, but I think doves symbolize things like peace, but also some form of innocence/purity and love. Some sources also say about transformation and spirituality. I think one of the reasons for choosing doves is to symbolize how he didn’t deserve to die like that, that his soul is actually good and seeks for peace. In Kou’s eyes he is also someone innocent, definitely. Especially when we are talking about ghost Mitsuba at the beginning of a story.
ALSO I’m pretty sure birds are foreshadowing to current!Mitsuba being made from the school mystery no. 3 who looked like a bird and who current!Mitsuba gained a lot of his characteristics from. Current!Mitsuba hair looks like feathers, his hand looks like talons etc. He is heavily associated with birds from the beginning. Even if Ghost!Mitsuba is associated with doves more and current!Mitsuba with ravens or crows.
The next thing about this scene is Kou finally realizing he knew Mitsuba and it hit him. Understanding that Mitsuba actually KNEW Kou and it was Kou who didn’t remember him probably made him feel remorse and generally really bad about himself. That’s not a nice thing if you forget about a boy who was with you in a class, and the fact that ghost Mitsuba actually tried to talk to him and asked him “Did you forget about me”... It's hard for me to even imagine what Kou felt at that moment.
Also, Mitsuba surely didn’t know about Kou being from an exorcist family, so he wouldn't expect that Kou will take direct action after meeting a ghost lol. If it comes to Mitsuba, I’m pretty sure it was very scary.
Tumblr media
I wish we could see more of them like that. Just like two boys having fun with each other. I love angst, trust me. But I think they deserve rest and to just have a chance to play and talk a be… normal for once. Everytime when they get a chance to have fun they’re cute and hilarious together.
Tumblr media
Rain can symbolize sadness and hard emotions soooo yeah, I’m not surprised it started raining. I think it sort of symbolizes feelings of both Kou and Mitsuba here.
Tumblr media
They’re going to the third floor and I’m sure it's foreshadowing to Mitsuba becoming a School Mystery no. 3.
I’m still impressed how much foreshadowing is during their first meeting (chap 18-20). Like the birds, nr 3, traffic safety earning, motif of remembering/forgetting etc. You could also think that photography would be something like that but… it's not. Photography becomes a thing that is helping recognizing human/ghost Mitsuba from current supernatural Mitsuba. They’re similar but not the same person. Photos were one of the main characteristics of the original Mitsuba, both in this arc and during a moment with Mitsubas mother later. It was always about photos, but it's never about photos when it comes to our current Mitsuba.
Tumblr media
Yeah, that kind of explains why Kou didn’t remember him immediately, even after seeing how Mitsuba looks and hearing his surname he should know. Because, like, Kou should remember him, they were in the same class, sit close to each other etc. But the mask that Mitsuba created was so strong that made him nearly imperceptible (like, you know, a ghost hah) and at this point tbh I don’t think Mitsuba liked it very much. He is actually a pretty bold and cocky person and all of this probably bugged him. Of course he wasn’t bullied, but was it worth becoming somebody different, somebody boring and bland to others? I think there is some form of regret. But also I don’t think that ALL of this was a mask, because Mitsuba definitely has some of a calmer and more sweet side to himself, he showed it a lot of times.
Tumblr media
He tries to fix it up by recognizing him now for who he is. With both his positive and negative aspects, even if he points out mostly his flaws. Still, this is the Mitsuba he met, the Mitsuba he knows and the Mitsuba he IS GOING TO remember. Mitsuba he befriended now. It actually means a lot for Sousuke. He is dead, he may have thought that it's the end for him and for all of his relationships he ever had. Its funny how Mitsuba said he is a ghost because he still wanted to do photos, but the truth is he wanted relationships, but the true ones. Not based on his “fake” nice self, but on real him with all his flaws and that's why he haunted other students rather than just… go do photos or something. He tried to connect to others, because he subconsciously thought relationships and friends he had when he lived weren’t really true and real. It’s ironic how it resembles the current!Mitsuba in Picture Perfect act.
Kou started to realize who Mitsuba was and how tragic his situation was, he started to empathize. Kou has a martyr complex, so he wanted to help Mitsuba any way he could. It was also shown that he does LIKE Mitsuba even with his twisted personality, Kou said it himself and it surely means a lot for Mitsuba who wasn’t liked before for his true personality. That was probably the moment Mitsuba felt a real bond towards Kou and become attached to him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And Kou even blushed a few times. That would still be read as platonic and sweet tho!. I think it was, personally. The most important thing during their first meeting was, of course, how it ended, because, in my opinion, it was a moment when most (not all tho) Kou's mental problems started. There was still his family, of course. Teru loves Kou very much, but still his mentality and behavior was a root for Kou’s low self esteem and some other elements of his personality, tho I think it may be a topic for a whole different post.
In this small arc, in my opinion, the moment that was the beginning of me perceiving them as written as one of the couples, a romantic relationship was this exact moment:
Tumblr media
“I don’t know… maybe something important to me?”
And also a moment when Kous saw this picture for the first time, when he developed photos, and how this cracked him.
Generally, becoming friends with Mitsuba was very important to Kou. Not only because he wanted to help him (and, internally, also making Kou feel better about himself) but also it was probably the first time when… Kou may feel somewhat special? He always was in the shadow of Teru, he wasn’t an “official” exorcist, he wasn't going to missions in the town, he wasn’t very strong (Hanako literally KO’ed him without a sweat and Kou couldn't do much to Hanako), the girl he got a small crush on (Nene) clearly had something with Hanako… Kou was always pushed back and now, with Mitsuba, he made an actually special relationship between the only two of them. He felt NEEDED, and we all know how much Kou desperately needs to feel NEEDED. In his own mind, he was the only one that could help Mitsuba and that understood Mitsuba, that's why Mitsubas ghost death was so hard for him. He finally got something special for himself and he couldn't even protect it and he let lonely, poor ghost tragically vanish. That's some trauma for you.
I’m not going to write much about Mitsubas feelings there because it was Sousuke Mitsubas feelings - and currently I’m going to focus more on a School Mystery Mitsuba. Tho Sousuke definitely perceived Kou and his help as something special to him. That's where their fated bond started.
Tumblr media
“You can help me develop them tomorrow and then… I think I’ll be okay”.
Yet we can’t see his eyes when he speaks, and that suggests he thinks something different that what he speaks. Not showing eyes is a common motif to show that a character is lying or saying something he does not think or hiding something. Here is just like that - it’s not about photos, it's about KOU. It’s because of Kou he is going to be okay, not because of the photos he took today. Something changed for Mitsuba when Kou recognized him for someone he actually is and wanted to become friends with him. For Mitsuba it means a lot because when he was alive he couldn’t get true friends and real relationships with others.
Tumblr media
Yeah walk walk trauma baby. I know I mention  ‘trauma” a lot when it comes to Kou, but the whole manga is like a one big parade of traumas for this boy and it's not even funny. I’m not surprised he is starting to become more and more insane with every next arc. Especially in the Night Out small arc we can clearly see how detached from actual reality Kou starts to be and how he stops recognizing differencs between supernatural and real word, good and evil, selfless and selfish behavior etc. It’s all the result of the traumatic situations he was put in for like 16 volumes straight. And he is bearing it A LOT WORSE than Nene is.
Tumblr media
Ouch.
“You wished for people remembering you but now youre happy with just a one person?” That hits hard but also I’m angry at Tsukasa, like leave that boy alone.Even one person can make a change in someones life, and thats what Mitsuba felt at a moment. For Kou he was someone, he was real, he had a personality, Kou recognized him and that gives him a true sense of identity. For him it was enough
Tumblr media
You met like half of a day before and you are calling him your friend and fighting for him with an unknown dangerous supernatural who looks exactly like your other friend. Bruh that's some dedication. Kou is desperate to save Mitsuba, but Kou is generally desperate to be a savior. He tries to “save” Nene a lot of times even if it’s not really necessary, because Nene also has other friends and people who support her and is pretty clever and capable of bearing problems on her own (most of the time). Yet Kou still treats Nene like some damsel in distress that need his protection when it's CLEARLY not like that. Sadly, Kou mostly fails anyway. He fails now with Mitsuba and if it comes to Nene, if she needs saving, the person who (usually) saves her is Hanako. Kou rarely has something he can actually do and it's cracking him up mentally.
Tumblr media
Yeah, “I’m supernatural who grants wishes” not “I’m a ghost of a boy who once lived in this town”. Yeah. It was right here from the beginning.
Tumblr media
I just hope it’s not a form of foreshadowing.
Tumblr media
His last words were “Minamoto-kun”, it's so sad. On this last panel he actually looked a little brighter than on the previous panel of his transformation, and that's because he looked at Kou.
I need to say, seeing a person you treat important to you and calling a friend dying in a horrible way and hearing their last words being your name must be pretty stressful. It would probably haunt me for a long time and I’m sure Kou is still affected by it.
On the 20 chapter cover Mitsuba is together with the rest of the main squad (Nene, Hanako, Kou). It was pretty weird back then - he literally died and looks like he was going to be a one-arc character that started Kous character development, but this cover was a hint that it's going to be different and Mitsuba, probably, is going to play a whole different role in the story. He, also, had a hand around Kous head and nearly touched his hair gently - its a symbol of intimacy.
Tumblr media
That was a proof how strong, narratively, their relationship is and is going to be during the progression of a story. And, in my opinion, a foreshadowing to Mitsubas feelings. Because I think currently, our Mitsuba is aware of his feelings toward Kou, but I’m going to cover this topic a little bit later.
On this cover there is a lot more symbolism, especially with Hanako and his role in the story, but it's also a thing for a whole different post.
What Tsukasa said was that Mitsubas wish was ‘“ want to stay with my friends forever and ever”.
Tumblr media
That’s literally what I said earlier.
It’s a recurring topic with current!Mitsuba and his relationship with Kou.  Mitsuba feels lonely and… Kou also feels lonely. Even if he has a brother, father and friends (Nene and Hanako and other school friends) Kou is incredibly lonely because of his inferiority complex. He desperately needed to be needed, needed to be special to someone, needed to be important to someone, and that person was Mitsuba. Right now, he is the most important person to Mitsuba and that's both good and very bad for Kou. Good because he finally feels like someone important and someones one and only, but bad because of how traumatic his relationship with Mitsuba is to him and how unhealthy it is. And by it I don’t mean  they’re toxic or bad people - they are kids who want to be loved and who want to have their place in the world. But Mitsuba is a monster, he is a supernatural, whos life is stained away by his instinct, who needs to eat other monsters and who does not really… have any actual bright future and Kou is traumatized boy with low self estem, problems with his selfworth, with martyr complex and some sort of suicidal tendencies. They have a lot to work out.
Tumblr media
Kou is going to be a supernatural / is going to try to be a supernatural / is going to be forced to be supernatural - hint number one.
Yes, I will go back to this topic, because I’m literally scared of it so much. It's prominent during the whole story that Kou is foreshadowed to have a plotline related to becoming supernatural in some way. And when this topic is touched it's usually related to his plotline with Mitsuba. I’m kind of scared of HOW it’s going to happen or if it’s going to be only a try or Kou really will become supernatural in some way. But it's too much of a recurring topic of Kous WHOLE character arc to not being important and to not happen. It's even hard to call it foreshadowing, its literal hints everywhere.
Tumblr media
Kou spent with Mitsuba literally… one day, outside of being in the same class for a while (Kou didn’t even remember this time THAT much, time they spend together this day was more important) and yet he CLINGED SO HARD to the idea that Mitsuba is his “friend”. He desperately needed to be wanted, needed, to have a special bond, to being able to help, to save someone. And yet he lost Mitsuba at this moment, he couldn't do shit to save him, he was absolutely… just useless during a fight. It affected him a lot.
During the scene when Hanako “kills” Mitsuba, there are sakura petals. They’re heavily associate with Mitsuba and are one of his symbols:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This scene, narratively was a scene that said to us he is GONE. For good. It was a “goodbye” for him and Kou, he is dead. That's all. At this point we couldn't know we are going to meet current!Mitsuba, so we could thing that is the end of Mitsuba and the beginning of a Kous arc. And… it was both of these things but in the whole DIFFERENT meaning. Of course it was goodbye to the Sousuke, he is dead, he can’t come back. Of course it was a beginning for Kous development. But… it was also a beginning for our current!Mitsuba, for slowly progressing Kous insanity as an effect of his trauma and the beginning for Mitsuba and Kous actual arc and relationship. We thought it was the end but it was actually the beginning that changed… the whole Kou, to be honest.
Tumblr media
I think it's related not only to Mitsuba but to Hanako, too. Imagine what Hanako could feel at that moment. He is a ghost and a supernatural who know how doomed he is and he only protects school and Nene. But Kou said it's bullshit and clearly believes in what he says. Sadly, Hanako is so stubborn.
Tumblr media
One of the symbols related to Kou is a lion. Lions may symbolize a lot of things, like strength, courage but also - protection. Just like Kou tries to protect everyone and tries to be strong and courageous for others. I actually think it suits him quite well. Lions also symbolize the sun and it was shown a few times that Kou is like a sun to Mitsuba.
Tumblr media
At some point of a story he is definitely going to do some crazy shit I’m telling you. He really tries to believe that he can find a way to change how the world works and it can end up good but.. it can also end up INCREDIBLY BAD. It’s not that good to mess up with life and death and when you cross up a border there is no coming back. With every arc the manga is becoming a little bit more dark and serious with topic it shows and och boy I’m kind of scared for Kou and Mitsuba.
Tumblr media
You can literally hear me crying. It was probably the first moment in the manga that actually had any impact on me, I was really like… I had to stand and walk for a bit before reading. Kou sees a photo of himself and remembers Sousuke saying “Who knows? Maybe something important to me?” and starting crying was like. I wanted to cry too. I can’t even imagine what Kou felt at this moment, it was probably absolutely heartbreaking.
This small arc finished with chapter 20.During the next arc, Kou, already  affected by Mitsubas death, gets to know that Nene also has a shortened lifespan and it's going to die very shortly. That wasn’t too good for his mental state and he literally fixated on a goal in saving her. When Kou learned about Nene’s situation, Hanako even related it to Mitsubas situation, so we can clearly understand these two examples are related to Kou. He doesn’t want this situation to happen again.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Just like with this boy, there is nothing you can do” - Hanako you little shit
But yeah. Again Kou understands how useless he is. How weak he is, how he can’t save anyone the way he is. How he could do nothing about Mitsubas situation and how he can’t do nothing about Nene’s situation. That's tragic. And it's clear Kou doesn’t know what to do about it. Thats why, when current!Mitsuba appeared, he started to find such a ridiculous (and unhealthy) solutions to Mitsubas (and Kous) problems. He don't know what to do but desperately needs to do… something. Anything. To help, to be important.
It's sad. He said he dont know what he is gonna do, but HE WILL DO SOMETHING. And yet… we know how it all goes for him. He is a brave kid, who is determined and wants others to be happy and alive.
He even tried to stop a kiss between Hanako and Nene after reading Nenes book and failed. He always fails.
There is also an special page
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It is titled “Love stories” that should be about Mitsuba. And it contains both Mitsuba and Kou. It's just a joke, but I need to point out that Mitsuba generally wasn’t shown to be interested in any girl during the progression of the story or never talked about it in general. He also does not crush on Nene, even when both Hanako and Kou felt something toward her at some point in the story. He also talks about how cute he is A LOT and I’m going to say something about it someday, but not now.
I think it's enough for part 1! I think I covered everything I wanted for their first meeting. Let's see at Mitsubas resurrection in the Hell of Mirrors!

Just realised the wasted potential of the human Mei Shijima and Hanako bonding over their terminal illnesses :(
I understand why they don't like each other as supernaturals but omg, LET THEM VENT TO EACH OTHER PLS

I don't understand the attitude of The Clock Keepers towards Tsukasa. It's like they don't know about him at all. Although in chapter 54, Shijima asks Tsukasa to leave, saying that his appearance will not lead to anything good and she has heard about No.3 (I hope you understand what I'm talking about, because tbh I couldn't find these pages in English on sites with manga--) So other mysteries are aware of him, but not the no.1?? (I'm writing with a translator, so I'm sorry for the mistakes. I love your blog, with love from Russia <3)
Well, they're not the only ones who don't know about Tsukasa's existence, number three didn't know either.
Tumblr media
In reality, the mysteries don't seem to know much about each other, besides, Tsukasa is a yorishiro, the idea is that no one finds out what and where the yorishiro of the school mystery is, because it is a weak point.
Hanako doesn't know about the yorishiros in the other mysteries, not even the Tsuchigomori one. It turns out that Hanako's yorishiro is a human, Tsukasa, he can just go around making a mess, unlike the others, who were objects. Sumire, being the only human besides Tsukasa, couldn't leave the boundary alone, so not even Hanako knew she was a yorishiro.
In Shijima's case, Tsukasa went after her, not the other way around, there's a panel where she says she knew what he did with number three, and she prefers to avoid him. (I couldn't find the panels for some reason either XD)
Tumblr media
Other than her, we don't know of any other mystery who knows about Tsukasa's existence (Mitsuba doesn't count), and she only knows because he went looking for her.
And because "someone" told her about what happened to number three, but who was it? those hands? There was no one there besides Hanako, Nene, Kou, Tsukasa and Mitsuba, who would have told her? Mitsuba only met her after Tsukasa went after her, Hanako would never talk about it with her, Nene and Kou didn't know Mei before entering the PP arc, there's a missing piece here.
Who told her?
Another important point, Tsukasa is working in the shadows, he used Hanako and the other two to do his work. Tsukasa may appear to them, but he is never where Teru or Akane are.
See that even now when he meets Teru, he doesn't say a word to him. Akane and Teru know about Tsukasa, but I don't imagine they knew he was Hanako's yorishiro, after all, it's contradictory, if he killed his brother, why would he be the yorishiro?
Anyway, I think Tsuchigomori knows about Tsukasa's existence, but he prefers not to get involved. The clock keepers preferred to stay away from Hanako from the beginning, so they wouldn't know anything about his history.
It's interesting, but that's exactly what it's about, Tsukasa is the youngest twin that nobody knows, nobody knows about his existence, and that's particularly interesting.

Aww thank you ♡ a big hug from Brazil \o/

If Sakumei stay together and go further. What will their date and relationship belike? Family dynamics even (if they adopted kids)?
Tumblr media
More on SakuMei! Alrighty so if they got back together I see them being much more mature and ready for a relationship than the first time around. It starts out very slow, they’re hesitant to get back together after what happened the first time. But since they’ve been friends for so long, they fall into a natural comfortability with one another
They enter a honeymoon phase, being the happiest they’ve ever been together. Their friends are happy to see them happy, although there’s some slight jealousy on Natsuhiko’s end. Mei is leaving the art room more and actually trying to enjoy her “life.” Sakura helps her work through her existential problems and figure out who and what she is. Mei helps Sakura make sense of their own feelings and learn how to express them. Instead of focusing so much on their own wants for a relationship, they focus on helping each other. And through that help, they both become comfortable expressing when they’re unhappy with something or want something in the relationship to change. Real healthy shit, we have left their toxic yuri days behind
As for the type of dates they go on, I think they’re very lowkey. They drink tea and read books in the broadcasting room, or in Sakura’s boundary. Due to the open space, their dates often turn into group hangouts, so if they want privacy it’s best to go to the art room or the library. The art room isn’t always safe as Nene and Tsukasa will barge in whenever they feel like it. But the library can get crowded too so really, this school is hell for these two introverts. They make it work though, once the students have cleared out it’s pretty vacant
If you haven’t noticed I’m a big filmbro and like to include movies in just about every fic I write. This is more of a Sakura/Natsuhiko thing but I apply it to other ships with them, I think Sakura would be rly into creepy/gory movies. They have tackled the Disturbing Movie Iceberg (I’m only two tiers down, I’m too sensitive to watch all that shit lmao) and like to make ppl watch gross movies with them. To Natsuhiko it’s a form of torture but Mei doesn’t care for fiction so she’s more indifferent (Ik a lot of the movies on the Iceberg are documentaries/home videos but shhhh we’re ignoring that for this). She complains but she doesn’t get scared or grossed out the way Natsuhiko does, it’s more that she’ll point out how unrealistic the special effects are and make fun of the bad writing. Bad movies are Sakura’s favorite though so they laugh along, that way they end up bonding over their judgemental natures. By the end, Mei might end up falling asleep on Sakura’s shoulder
Most of their dates involve them just sitting around and talking. They don’t always have to say something, but they can keep a conversation going very easily. Neither of them are that talkative in crowds but one-on-one they could yap for hours. Because of this they know each other super well, they’re able to keep up with each other’s interests and viewpoints. They get into deep, philosophical discussions often, which leads Sakura to lighten the mood with tea
Now let’s imagine them in another life where they’re both human and get to grow old together. OG Mei and No.4 Mei are twin sisters here bcuz I said so. I don’t see No.4 Mei doing art full time but she keeps it up as a hobby for whenever she’s stressed, partially because it’s something that connects her to Shijima. She would have an art room in her house full of paintings of Sakura and her family (credit to you for that hc lol). OG Mei absolutely becomes an art teacher tho. I could actually see No.4 Mei going into the medical field and becoming a doctor, since art isn’t really her thing I think she’d be more of a science person. There’s also more personal reasons for it, she wants to help kids that are going through what her sister went through
For Sakura it’s hard to say. I think they’d own some sort of gothic tea room. They sell tea there as well to make some extra income. Not that they need it with their rich doctor wife, but it’s a nice bonus. To commit to the bit they wear black vintage gowns to work every day. And their house is an old manor, funded mainly by the aforementioned doctor wife. One thing abt Sakura is they’re going to commit to an aesthetic. They host a lot of events at the tea room like murder mysteries/scavenger hunts, especially around Fall. Mei stops by each one to support her partner, and when she does she’s always the one to solve the mystery
They have a son, one of those cursed little Victorian boys. They also own an unreasonable amount of cats, all with very formal names. They’re very weird parents, but good ones. I’m getting Addams Family vibes. Mei also goes butch in the future so she can be the Gomez, trust. They encourage their son to learn healthy communication skills and take up hobbies so he can explore his interests and make friends. They’re also very loving towards one another, a very romantic couple. They end up having a wonderful life together, along with their son and many friends who crash the manor. Natsuhiko and Shijima pop in most often, along with Tsukasa and Aoi/Nene. On occasion Mitsuba will drag Kou up to visit but he always gets creeped out by the place. This would make a great family sitcom
Thank you for the ask mootie, I love talking abt SakuMei!!

I want to hear about the vampire au :o
UAAAA YIPPIE!!!!
Tumblr media
Spoilers for the fic under the cut!
I had this au for atleast 9 months by now... If you wanna read it here's the link on ao3!
So the AU is mainly Mitsukou, but i'm not planning on actually confirming them as romantic in the fic so everyone can enjoy it! It's very implied though. not at the start because they just met of course.
For now i only have this WIP and i haven't coloured it yet, sorry!
Tumblr media
The Minamotos are of course a family of hunters, and are the main protectors of the town they live in.
Kou isn't very strong and has only killed three vampires with the help of his brother and feeling incredibly guilty afterwards. Mitsuba instead is a normal vampire like any. He lives in his own little town and in a house with Shijima and Akane. They where all invited in that house by Kako since they all remained orphans.
Aoiterukane ( aoi x teru x akane ) will be a thing in the fic! But you can take one of the three pairs more seriously than the other. Terukane, aoikane or teruaoi is up to you. Ill go for all though!
Now now i can't spoil the story but i can give you some of the characters!
Nene is a commoner who helps her parents in the fields sometimes and takes care of some crops with aoi in her garden. She is an apprentince of aoi's mother to learn how to sew.
Teru is a working hunter and he made a promise with a vampire, you'll be introduced to it in chapter 3 and in the future. he is engaged to aoi but for some reason likes akane more than his fiancee
Akane is a vampire in love with a girl of the village, Aoi.
Aoi is a simple girl and her family sells candles and clothes. she is engaged to teru but is in love with akane
Amane is from a family of butchers and thinks he is a human. Is he?
Tsukasa has run away from the village because he was suspected to be a vampire. he is and is now living with the other vampires.
Shijima stays in her room almost all day wanting to pursue the career of her long gone friend Mei.
Kako is an elder of the village and he is not suspected of being a vampire, so he pretends to go in the village to buy things as a old guy from another village.
Yako was originally from another village but when her human lover died she was suspected to having killed him and ran away to the village where mitsuba is.
Tsuchigomori owns a small library in their village and he also pretends to be a human to buy books and knowledge.
sumire is a florist in town, nene looks up to her
hakubo umh i'm still thinking
Now that's all i can tell! But all there characters will have their big important moment. I hope your favourite side of the story will be the Yugi's i think i made them pretty interesting!
Thanks for asking'!! :D anymore question on this or other au's are appreciated!

What Makes a Yorishiro?
Well wouldn't you like to know...
But no, really, what DOES make a yorishiro? I thought I knew at first, but recently, I've started thinking my definition is a little... off.
So I wanted to revisit yorishiro in this post, and review the explanations AidaIro has given us within the context of JSHK! Please, join me, as I barrage you with screencaps you have probably seen a hundred times. ☆ミ
Tumblr media
Our first introduction to yorishiro is Hanako in Ch. 6, where he explains that the divine yorishiro are like batteries to the school mysteries. If you get rid of them, they power down! Easy to understand.
He also makes mention of the fact that this yorishiro should be located in the innermost reaches of Yako's boundary. Obviously, the best offense is a good defense, so keeping your yorishiro in the safest, least accessible part of your boundary is a no-brainer. Still worth mentioning, though.
Tumblr media
Finally, Hanako states that it's something that "has the most value" to No. 2, and something that "means a lot to her." These are very positive connotations. Nene then equates this to the scissors Yako received from Misaki, a token from her first love.
Tumblr media
Much later, Tsuchigomori explains to Yashiro that yorishiro are objects with the strongest feelings connected to them. This is veeery interesting, because this is vague enough that it could mean any type of feeling.
A page later, Tsuchigomori says that the reason the moon rock is his yorishiro is because Amane changing his future surprised him. So it seems like the primary emotion behind this yorishiro could have been surprise. However, considering Tsuchigomori cared a lot for Amane, it's hard to say it didn't also come from a place of love.
...anyways I am skipping No. 3 because it doesn't matter yet...
Tumblr media
Briefly touching upon Shijima Mei, it makes sense why the sketchbook is her yorishiro. It's a memento from her creator, and the place she originally sprung to life. I can't say exactly what emotion or feeling could be tied to it, but all that matters is that it's obvious she cares deeply for the original Shijima Mei.
Mei even says so herself!
Tumblr media
Very touching.
And now, we are finally getting to the reason I made this post!!
Tumblr media
THIS HOT MESS
See, in Ch. 94, Hakubo makes it clear that he is not able to feel love in a traditional sense. It is, apparently, too foreign an emotion for a demon, and even more so for a demon that lacks desire like he does. So naturally, he eats her.
The thing about Sumire is, I think she woke up that desire within him. This is the closest thing to love he can feel, but he can never truly love her as he is. Not in the right way.
Tumblr media
A bit tragically, Sumire actually directly quotes Tsuchigomori's quote from the 4 PM Bookstacks, which is that a yorishiro is an object that the school mystery has the strongest emotional attachment to. Ignoring the fact she is literally calling herself an object, she interprets this as him returning her same feelings. Oh, my poor girl...
Still, No. 6 is a school mystery, and his connection to Sumire is the most powerful emotion he has ever felt. He even openly admits he would fall in love with her if he was human, proving this is just a demon’s version of “love.”
Thus, in the end, I would say that every yorishiro so far has had a theme of love behind it. And isn't that sweet? Isn't love the strongest emotion of all? Love is always said to overcome every odd, isn't it?
But what about loss? Can we not say that these yorishiro didn't emerge from feelings of anguish? After all, the loss of a loved one is so powerful,
it can even take another's life.
Tumblr media
How sad.
...The thing about Tsukasa and Amane is, I can't say what the primary emotion behind him being his yorishiro is. Amane is all over the place when he comes to Tsukasa.
One emotion I see is fear.
Tumblr media
Not necessarily of Tsukasa himself, but what Tsukasa reminds Amane of. Of what Amane became. Out of control, and capable of taking the life of his own brother. He is his own brother's murderer, and it terrifies him.
His greatest fear in the Hell of Mirrors is his brother's dead body, after all. A reminder of what Amane really sees himself as: a killer.
Tumblr media
But one could also say guilt is a powerful emotion for Amane. Not only did he commit murder, a crime, but he did it towards his own flesh and blood. His little brother. As the elder sibling, it was his duty to protect him, not kill him.
Tsukasa even uses this against him, being shown to manipulate Amane's feelings about murdering him for his own purposes.
Tumblr media
But would guilt really be enough? What about sorrow?
Tumblr media
I already alluded to Amane taking his own life shortly after killing his brother, but he was also very close to his brother as a young child, and at least up until they entered middle school.
Tumblr media
The loss of anyone in your life can hurt, no matter who they are. What makes it most painful, though, is that they’re close to you. Dear to you. Loved by you.
A loved one dying is terrifying.
Tumblr media
The guilt is overwhelming.
Tumblr media
You’re filled with unbearable sorrow.
Tumblr media
Because you love them.
Tumblr media
♡♡♡♡♡♡♡
...
I must admit, while originally typing up this post, I wanted to end it on a theory that maybe a yorishiro doesn’t have to be selected out of a feeling of love. And I think that can still be true; Hakubo’s feelings towards Sumire aren’t true love, after all, and Tsuchigomori’s feelings towards the moon rock could just be simple surprise.
Even so, I can’t believe that Amane doesn’t truly care for Tsukasa, or that love is not the driving force behind his emotional attachment to him. It is a toxic love, for sure, and one that brings him intense pain and sorrow, but one he cannot help but feel. I only hope that they may one day mend things between them.
Anyways, thank you for reading all the way to the end! I’ve been wanting to make a few other posts lately, so hopefully I can get those out soon.
Take care of yourselves, and remember, go tell someone you love them today! You never know when they could disappear or fall into a hole, so make every moment count, guys.
Tumblr media
♡♡♡ Bye-byeee~!!!

helloooooooo. I see you opened a request, can I set it back to shijima mei (tbhk) when in love and yandere..if you don't want it, you can skip it. Wish you have a good day :333
The diference between love and obsession
Tumblr media
[ YANDERE COMPARISON ] [ Mei Shijima ]
[ Toilet Bound Hanako-kun / Jibaku Shounen Hanako-kun ]
⚠️ This contain spoilers about her backstory
⚠️ Yandere, I don't support nor try to romanticize this toxic behaivor, is just for entretaiment
Tumblr media
Thank you so much for requesting this!!! I love so much Mei that im so happy to be writing for heeeeeeer <33333
I was so nervous but also so excited to write this because this idea has being stuck on my head for a while and now is finally happening!!! I hope I made a good job!
Tumblr media
Mei's love is quite complex, despite being born out of the love and a great desire to finish her paint of the original Mei Shijima, she hasn't really felt anything compare to what Mei used to feel for painting, she care for her and was happy to acomplish her wish but now she only paints because is her duty not because she likes it
Honestly, at first, once her feelings started to grow she find them quite annoying, is just distracting her from her work and was disturbing her little peace, but at the same time make her want to be with you and see you, after thinking for a while about it Mei finally decides to give a chance to her feelings
Mei's love is complex, is gentle and discreet in the exterior but intense and stronge in the interior, she isn't too obvious with her feelings to you, or to anyone really, but with herself she is rude, she curse herself for falling in love but at the same time she is thankful because now her burden is a little lighter
Her love guide her to unconsciously draw portraits of you, potrails that she never bring herself to finish, as if it was a reminder that only you can be you, the one who makes her heart happy but her mind troubled. It's her love what makes her go out of her comfort zone a little more, bit by bit, just to be able to experience more with you instead of just painting her distant wishes and desires
But is also her love is what makes her be scare of losing you, of you leaving her all alone with her burden just like the human Mei did to her, is her love and fear what makes her feel like everytime you leave her to do something else their is the chance that you won't come back, the posibility of something happening to you or maybe you just don't want to be with her anymore torture her. Its her fear what makes her stare at your unfinish portraits wondering if she should finish it so at least she will have a reminder of you. But despite all the anxiety is her love what make her convince herself that, no matter what happen she will fine, and you will be fine too, she loves you but she won't trap you in her own cage, so if you ever leave her behind she will let you go because you'll will always live in her heart and memories
Tumblr media
Mei's obsesive love for you is quite interesting, to say at least. She has no other feeling that she ever felt that can compare, only the care she used to hold for the human Mei Shijima, aside from that her entire existance has being just falling into a deep darkness where she was forced to paint over and over again in order to don't disappear, growing more and more annoyed by each moment not only by her burden but by how the people talk in such horrible way about the only person she had ever cared for
But your presence has being a ray of Light in her inmense darkness, it was surprising and quite weird when you first came to her life, she felt a little annoyed by not know what you were doing here with her, but as the time pass she start caring less and less about your motivation for being here
Her love grew slow but stronge, and with this obsesive love she couldn't care less about anyone finding out, honestly if someone asked her she will quickly accept her growing interest on you, in an attempt that showing it as if now you were hers and only hers
She didn't had anything and never have asked for anything in particular, if she wanted something she could just paint it and bring it to life, but not you, you were unique and special, she tried over and over again to paint portraits of you, bringing at life clones of you, they acted like you, they looked like you, they even sounded like you, but non of the are you, so they were quickly destroyed merciless, Mei didn't even bothered to glance at them one more time before destroying the paper where they were painted while feeling annoyed by they mere existance
I because of her obsesive love that Mei wants you all for herself, so instead of going out she always finds a way to lull you to the art room, where she is gracefuly painting all kind of things you may like, landscapes, things, people even! whatever you want as long as you stay with her
Mei's broken heart remind her that there is the chance that you may leave her one day, just like human Mei left her so long ago, but she doesn't want that, she doesn't want to be left alone again and she will not let that happen! It's Mei's obsesive love what lead her to create the perfect paradise for you, paint a world were you two can be happy for the eternity, a place where you'll never have the need to leave her, and when is finally finish and perfect for you she will add the latest but most important detail, you

A question, what do you think would happen if at one point any of the seven mysteries are forced to fight No.1 (kinda like the vs Hanako in Picture Perfect)
Cause I have a bad gut feeling about the upcoming school play arc since Mitsuba’s gonna be there and No.1’s definitely gonna be there
(Kinda hoping for a Shijima return..? She is pretty OP after all)
And I don’t think whatever the broadcasting club’s gonna do with Akane is gonna be.. great
Hello hello :DDD
I will be really honest, even if I am the first one to scream about how OP I am sure n1 is (I mean, they must be three for a reason), I don't think they are the most powerful when it comes to fighting.
They could of course alter events after and all, but Kako doesn't seem the type to fight and for Mirai I am not sure how she would fight, she is pretty quick. Akane is pretty good at fighting though and I would be on board for more 'tactical' fights rather than physical ones if this happens.
Akane is considered the lowest of the clock keepers despite clearly knowing how to fight so I won't cross the idea that they know how to take care of themselves though. (and I would be 1000% on board if Kako turns out to be a real badass at fighting, same for Mirai XDD)
There is a pattern of n7, n5 and n2 together and n4, n3 and n6 with the broadcasting club (even if for n7 we know that Tsukasa is kinda part of it). Which leaves the clock keepers as the last mysteries who didn't clearly take a side in this mess. And one of the two last mysteries to cause a problem in the race for the yorishiros. (two because the broadcasting club don't take Mitsuba as a problem rip)
Tumblr media
Kako is quick to reprimand Hanako, the leader. The whole scene where he talks to him, he is the one with the power most of the time. He has the place of the judge in the court when Hanako seems to be the one being judged. He is calling for order, and listing all the problems before finally, giving the speech to Hanako.
Tumblr media
I am not sure how much he would listen to Sakura too. Since it's pretty obvious for me, the clock keepers come from at least the last part of the XIXth century, and Sakura is stuck since at least 100 years. Idk which one is older, they may be the first and oldest mysteries but it doesn't mean they are the oldest supernaturals.
I wonder which mystery would go against n1. Most of them listen to Kako, the only one who would be a real threat is n6. He wasn't here at the meeting and listens to everything Sakura says. Honestly I would be on board seeing any conflict between the mysteries, especially because Kako warned Hanako about what n6 was going to do, he is one of the only characters who seems very aware of what destroying the yorishiros does. And since we saw the flashback with Amane and the clocks I wonder how linked to the clock keepers the Yugi's backstory is.
So I am not sure how a fight with the clock keepers could go, in my opinion n1, n6 and n7 are the strongest mysteries. But since n7 is sealed and 6 seems out of the picture I don't know how it could go.
The others are weakened because of thei missing yorishiro and Mitsuba has his left but is really weakened because of his condition as a made up ghost.
I don't know what role Mitsuba will have in this arc but Kou promised him a hangout. And with all the clocks' imagery in the last chapter and Akane being approached by the broadcasting club, there is a high chance n3 and n1 are gonna be here. Mitsuba did have a big role in n4's arc after all.
Tumblr media
I am also a strong believer that if Mitsuba ever learn the existence of a human/supernatural he wouldn't be really happy or at least jealous. (but this is more me being delusionnal L O L I just wanna see them interact)
I would die if we get N1, N3 and N4 in the same arc, I would litteraly explode.
Tumblr media
I am not sure when Mei will come back but she still hasn't pay for her wish to Tsukasa. The last time we saw her it was as a proxy in the huge room with all the mysteries. I kinda hope she will have to do something into this arc asked by the broadcasting club probably. Especially with an arc where students do plays, haunted houses etc I think her powers could be really funny.
Tumblr media
I don't think she will go against Nene because she said that she would help her, since her wish is the same as Mei-chan. But it doesn't mean that she won't go against anyone else, the whole perfect picture arc happened because even if it caused trouble she didn't care. She cares more now, but we have no idea what she may do if she is forced to do so. If not this arc, then another one but I can't wait to see her again.
I think Akane being approached by Natsuhiko right now is kinda linked to the fact that most mysteries either don't have yorishiros left, of just that n1 is the only one not really taking side between Hanako and the broadcasting club. And they are one of the last two main yorishiro. (even if I think Mitsuba will cause more problem than what they think)
Akane is the weakest of the clock keepers since he is human and this is the reason why he was approached by nearly half of the cast since the beginning of the manga. Hanako has been wanting the clock keepers' power since a really long time too. It seems like a race to get the clock keeper's power is close to an end.
However, Natsuhiko's approach may have worked on more naive persons like Nene and Kou (and even Kou thought he was suspicious at first rip). Akane is way more cautious than them. He also works a lot with Teru, he knows when Teru is hiding stuff when other people can't tell and also the fact that if anything bad happens the exorcist will probably be here to help. The broadcasting club have avoided Teru since the beginning for a reason, Sakura seems to know how capable he is and Natsuhiko is definitely aware too.
Tumblr media
It means that Natsuhiko approached Akane knowing that Teru won't be able to be involved that much and that he has something that will interest Akane. We didn't see him yet in this arc (this is the first chapter though) despite him being president of the student council, they have a big role for the schol festival, like meeting up with parents and making sure the school image is good, he will be busy.
Akane has been seen losing most of his ability to be cautious when Aoi is involved. I still think that Natsuhiko proposing a deal to heal Aoi's hand now is too early when Akane for once put something for later, and it isn't enough to make him fall into a trap. Someone's life may be in danger or Aoi may be if Natsuhiko wanna make a deal with him. My other option is if it's something linked to the clock keepers, how much we know nothing about the potential danger Akane may be in while being half supernatural or just a deal to get rid of the clock keepers/supernaturals, since Akane hates them. Akane may hate supernaturals but he is also more aware of the rules now, especially since Teru told him how important the mysteries are actually .
Tumblr media
I absolutely don't know what precisely now, but yes it's probably nothing good on the long term. Sakura and Natsuhiko are very clear on the idea that they want to destroy all yorishiros (Tsukasa included), we have no real idea what will happen, but they seem ready to do anything to get to this goal.
I don't really answered the questions you asked Anon but here what I think for now x')) I am here for the ride I really hope we will learn more about the clock keepers and I hope Mei will be here too 🙏

Love for Yashiro Nene ⍣ ೋ
3/6
← →
Sousuke Mitsuba
Yashiro doesn't know about the human Mitsuba who died, but she does know of the person who’s left of him, the second Mitsuba. That Mitsuba and her are not close friends, but they had their moments. In the Hell of Mirror arc, they were pretty comedic. Yashiro tries to show herself off as the cute senpai Mistuba can look up to, whilst he constantly teases her about her ankles. And then into the Picture Perfect arc they were still pretty fine.
Tumblr media
He and Yashiro do overlap often however, more specifically with their relationships wth Kou and Hanako respectively. Both Kou and Hanako have a habit of doing everything themselves, not listening to others and going on impulse. This affects Yashiro and Mitsuba, as they don’t want them to do this and even get hurt in the process, but they just won’t listen. These parallels run even deeper in the coming chapters as Kou becomes more and more like Hanako.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Shijima Mei
Shijima Mei, not the supernatural, only has her appearance in the Picture Perfect arc, and that’s all the screen time she gets, but her impact is still pretty significant, it can also extend to Yashiro. Together Yashiro and Mei are an earnest couple. With Yashiro’s silly and extreme self mixed in with Mei’s curious and determined self, they are fun to read.
Mei’s resolve also parallels Yashiro's. All Mei really wants to do is make the most of her life, to experience everything it has to offer. Mei is, by definition, a damsel in distress. A bedridden girl with only her pencil and sketchbook to keep her company. Yet she still wants to live. Her will can align with Yashiro as she also doesn’t have much to live for, but she carries on. Infact, right after Yashiro meets Mei she comes up with this resolution and gives herself purposes outside of romance. When Yashiro asks if she’s scared, she is, but she continues to pursue a bountiful life.
Tumblr media
Mei is significant in the way that she gave Yashiro the idea of turning up her little life not to some evil sea witch or prince, but for herself.
Hyuuga Natsuhiko
At first, Hyuuga Natsuhiko was somebody who Yashiro thought of to be her type, but she was promptly proven wrong as he kidnaps her and gets stuck in a boundary with him. He is also very flirtatious and makes moves on her and on other women despite his infatuation with Sakura. In a way his a counterpart to Teru, they may have been Yashiro’s crush for a while and be popular, but Teru’s a lot more genuine than Natsuhiko. He cares for others and is pretty reliable, not much to say for Natsuhiko though.
Tumblr media
Amane Tsukasa
Amane Tsukasa is the main antagonist of the manga. He is childish, immature, and doesn’t care for the people he hurts. So Yashiro does not like him one bit, in fact, she fears him. Tsukasa has been emphasized to be pure evil, or at least a being that comes from it. He is what it means to be a supernatural, and not care for humans nor supernatural. All he really cares about is granting wishes and his twin brother. They don’t have many interactions, but they are connected in the aspect of Hanako and the Kannagi. Hanako is self explanatory, yet for the Kannagi, Yashiro visits the red house where we see Tsukasa, the little boy who dies, and later the Kannagi.
Tumblr media
Nanamine Sakura
Out of everyone, Nanamine Sakura is more keen on Yashiro Nene. She is the only one Nanamine says she wishes to be friends with. According to Natsuhiko, she doesn’t say her feelings out front most of the time, but she does with Yashiro. She is especially kind to her as well. When she had to drown in the Tea Party arc there’s a chance that she might’ve sent down Natsuhiko with her, not because she’s annoyed with him per say, but she knew he would at least protect her. Together with how in the later chapters, she gives Yashiro information and tries (and fails) to joke around with her. Nanamine also read books about how to get along with her juniors aka Yashiro.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Between Yashiro and Nanamine, there’s also a sort of understanding. They are both working for an Amane twin, and are regarded as priestesses. Their job is hard and tiring so talking to one and another helped make it a little better. Nanamine Sakura spreads harmful rumors to the Seven Wonders, whilst Yashiro Nene makes new and friendly ones. Nanamine has to use a broadcast to change one’s perception of the Seven Wonders aka using rumors. Yashiro also has the ability, except she doesn’t need a broadcast to get the word out.
Tumblr media
Strangely enough the similaires even reach to their designs. Both of them have high stockings, a brooch, bangs, and their hair tied together in the sides of their hair.

i made a splatoon x tbhk au so im sharing it
alright so many years ago humans and supernaturals had a war based on power and obviously the humans lost so they had to live underground and be under a hidden society for years. you were either human or half n half under there no in between. if you were human, you were basically raised there. if you were half n half then you were released a month after you were found as a half n half. since ghost/s.n and humans had a war ghost and s.n are terrified of humans.
now let’s introduce our wonderful cast of this mess!
hanako - 18, ghost, is apart of the ghost brothers, friends with kou and nene. random fact: used to be in a rap group with kou

tsukasa - 18, ghost, is apart of the ghost brothers, friends with …well…no one…, random fact: a part time horror actor

kou - 19, human, is apart of on the run, friends with hanako, tsukasa, mitsuba and nene. random fact: he escaped the u.h.s (undiscovered human society) because he’s a top g

mitsuba - 18 (based on looks we no idea how old he is in years), is apart of on the run, s.n, friend with nene, aoi, kou and..that’s it. random fact: used to be in a metal band (a sad fact is that he was created by tsukasa and tsukasa wants to forget about it because he feels bad)

nene - 19, halfnhalf, in deep purple, friends with mitsuba, aoi, hanako and kou. random fact: her and mitsuba collaborated not to long before this

aoi - 19, s.n,is apart of deep purple, friends with nene mitsuba and mei. random fact: her and sumire were long lost sisters! (another fact: she escaped the uhs not so long after nene left it)
sumire - 21, ghost,is apart of deep purple, friends with nene and mei. random fact: she never liked the idea of making music.
mei - 20, ghost, agent, friends with akane, nene and aoi. random fact: her and shijima are twins!
shijima - 20, s.n, agent, friends with akane and nene. random fact: she only into got accepted into the agency is because of her temper.
akane - 19, halfnhalf, friends with kou, shijima and mei. random fact: he escaped the uhs because of burnout
i was gonna add teru to this au but idk where he would fit so suggestions are welcome!

I love tbhk so much the art, the story line, and honestly I’m attached to the characters. I think my favorite arc was the picture perfect arc. It made me uncomfortable, uneasy almost. I don’t even know how to describe it. I haven’t read it in over a year .SPOILERS AHEAD. I have a lot to say about this so good luck
- vol. nine was where the book got dark, more than it already had been. And the uncomfortableness of the arc made it my favorite. the whole concept of this arc is unsettling in itself, living in a fake world and loosing your memories/ sense of reality. In this chapter instead of Hanako fighting against his brother, his actually playing along to protect Yashiro, who is inevitably going to die soon. In this world she can live. It’s whatever you want it to be. It starts off almost happy, and dreamlike, with kou and nene realizing both Hanako, and mitsuba are alive.(not ghosts) and in Hanako’s case, he’s Yugi amane, the boy he was before he died, and took on the role of #7. It seems like a dream, nene gets to live with Hanako as a normal boy, and kou gets to see mitsuba again. The eventually realize it’s fake and created by #4(mei) they try to find ways to escape, when #4 tells them the only way to leave is to kill the “main characters” who happen to be Hanako and mitsuba. At the end of vol. 10, it’s revealed that Hanako is trying to keep Yashiro trapped in the fake world, in order to save her life- knowing she will loose all of her memories of her old life, of him, and he will never see her again. This was the first time in the book Hanako was seen as the villain, and I honestly love it. The world was originally created for mitsuba, to live as a human again. Somehow Hanako got dragged into it and played along with his brothers antics for once. - also, mei shijima basically tried to commit suicide by going back to kill her old self before she painted the tower that made her into a rumor. She was already dying, and her rumor was that she committed suicide after that painting b/c her parents didn’t approve of her art. She wanted to kill herself to prevent herself from becoming a rumor. They end up escaping in the end and everything is fine and cool ( accept Yashiro’s impending death) but this chapter was once hell of an emotionally rollercoaster for me. There’s so much more of it I probably missed, yk I try my best.
It also reminds me of a question that was brought up in my fiends philosophy class called “the experience machine” or something like that. It’s what they called it at least, you are given a chance to create a perfect reality for yourself, and you wouldn’t know anything changed. You could be what we you want, life could be whatever you wanted, but the people who knew you would know you’re gone. It would all be fake, but would you do it? Would you take the the chance and go in the machine? It’s the same thing accept it’s to save another, not yourself. Will you send someone else to a fake world, a perfect world even, knowing you’ll never see them again, but to save their life. Even if it is against their will in this case.

What do you think hanako kun and shijima San have in common
Shijima-san is pretty strictly explored within the confines of her arc so, I think I can only reply with the obvious things: that she hates the concept of feel-good surface-level lies meant to placate/comfort or hide you from reality, and they both feel as if murder is a good way to 'save' someone from something they see as far worse. Love and devotion and protection is both of their motivations for ~murder, possibly. Shijima-san is surely one piece of the big puzzle to teach us about the Yugi through example of similar thought process.
Both feel like lying to yourself is worthless. Neither want to perpetuate self-delusion. Hanako is quite brutal to Mitsuba about giving up on dreaming of life, and Shijima-san is quite brutal to Nene about the absoluteness of her short lifespan.
Both are fussy, aloof, antisocial people, with a fakey-fake upsetting veneer of cheerful positivity fronted particularly intensely in circumstances that upset people (intentionally creating distance). Both will look down on the living for their foolish, limited understanding of the reality of life/death.
I really think they butt heads because they are so similar. I can't see a single world they get along. Shijima-san is like… too alpha, wwww. Amane is put-off by it. They can't, talk.... immovable pieces.
Both are intensely self-hating, and feel guilty/responsible for something done to that which they find precious and live to protect or help.
And they both need a cheerful, perky counterpart! The living Shijima Mei is more similar to Nene or Tsukasa. Thoughtful, sweet, energetic! Cheerful, hopeful!
The largest divide between them though, is that Hanako does a lot more…. performance? He can maintain his r'ships with others and does despite that he seems to only truly (by his own definition I assume) care about a few things? I think Shijima-san is the more honorable between them, with her lonely belief system being taken all the way to the bank. She's not out there palling around with Kou and Akane and partying with Yako and Tsuchigomori. Amane is very broody and emo and can make dramatic displays of his indifference to others and lack of humanity, but he isn't quite the epic loner he believes himself to be. Shijima-san is a lot more thorough in her isolation. She lacks 'guff'.
Shijima-san is pretty right to hate Hanako, even while sharing similarities, I mean if you take that kaii distance and emotional brokenness but Also combined it with sexual irreverence and possessiveness of a 'random' (as far as she knows) girl, it's like, innately disgusting and uncomfortable to watch. LOL. Hanako sure is hard to like..... and as Shijima-san is bound to her duty and takes it seriously, I'm sure seeing Hanako faff off with a girl is like..... impossible to respect. Kind of a betrayal to what it means to be devoted to your object, to obsess on something unrelated to it. He looks disloyal or half-committed or distractible. You couldn't imagine Shijima-san moving away from her 1-track devotion to Mei.

While reviewing Hanako-kun after school I realized that Tsukasa can appear clearly in the photograph taken by the recording group, however, Hanako appears distorted and like a dark spot/shadow.
But, I thought it was weird that Tsukasa could actually come out, so I thought to myself that maybe it's because he's a yorishiro and not a ghost/spectre like Hanako is.
The first time I read it I thought it was funny (and a little sad because I couldn't get Yashiro and Kou in the photo) and a little realistic that it does not appear correctly in the image because it is a ghost and, in real life , this is how spirits usually look if they are captured in photos: blurs.
And that led me to think, what are yorishiros really? Specters, objects, the original or realistic representations and, dare I say, alive, real, brought back to life or taken from the afterlife in the case of Sumire and Tsukasa?
Maybe I'm wrong but, I'm very sure that Tsuchigomori's yorishiro is the real moonstone that Amane gave him and not a replica; He had to keep it and, when Amane's death caught him off guard and greatly impacted him, became his yorishiro; idon't think he threw her away, otherwise she wouldn't have become his yorishiro.
Yako's scissors were given to her as a gift and they were something precious to her, she protected them and took great care of them, her precious gift, the memory of her beloved Misaki. (Although it is unknown how or when it became one of the mysteries, I highly doubt that Yako neglected those scissors, so they must have been intact or, at least, at her hands at the time of her appointment as the Second Mystery.
Shijima-san's notebook belonged to Mei-chan, where she drew the sketch of the tower and Shijima-san. It's probably the same one, after all, it's where Shijima-san was born.
Even Sumire and Tsukasa (who was introduced to us first, but I'll be honest, it never crossed my mind that he could be a yorishiro:[) human yorishiros are introduced to us, and they're both dead.
How are they selected? ¿Are there requirements to be able to be a yorishiro?
With inanimate yorishiros it can be easy, a treasured memory, something that made you witness an event that you never believed would happen or was impossible, a wish of someone who could not fulfill and it is your turn to do it, something that you longed for or long for. Who knows, it's interesting how each yorishiro object that has been presented to us represents different things for each mystery, and it is beautiful and melancholic as Aidairo represents them.
Except Sumire and Tsukasa are yorishiros too, and they're both dead.
Are humans different? Do they have to be dead to be yorishiros? Or can they be yorishiros as long as their possessor is a Mystery? Sumire and Tsukasa died first than their possessors, one by a sacrifice to which they condemned and another by the hand of his twin brother.
However, I don't think their dead status has anything to do with it. Or at least, not their death itself, but what they represented and meant to Hakubo and Amane, and in which they both died.
Hakubo killed the village (for Sumire, a way to show how affected he was by her, his way of showing love perhaps) and Amane committed suicide (after killing Tsukasa, and we still don't know what led him to do it).
Although even then, it may just be what they both meant to each other respectively.Hakubo did not know any other way of relating beyond order-obey, although it seems that with Yorimitsu there was a bit of friendship, but with Sumire it was different. They both accompanied each other as friends/lovers/lifemates. Hakubo loved her, in his own way.
With Amane we know that he wasn't much of a friend in high school, and most likely only had his brother for company during school hours. Adding that we do not know the circumstances of Tsukasa and his family, did his mother continue with her accusations? Did she stop seeing him and treating him like her son? What about his dad?
(Also taking into account that, we know, the entire Yugi family died the same night, but what killed them, or what led them to suicide as the media mentioned/speculated at the time? If the authorities took it as a family suicide, there should have been signs of non-violence inside the house [everything in its place, everything in order], everyone should have been in the same room)
but anyway, there's a good theory about this from another account.
I just wanted to know your opinion about this that came up after going around the bush.
Initially I would just point out that it seems that the yorishiros are not spirits as such given the situation with Tsukasa and his photo with the broadcast group but I digress hahaha, aside, Mitsuba can also appear in the photograph and is a spectrum (made with other spectrums but details) so maybe Aidairo missed that detail, or they took a photo with an Old camera, or they were just having fun at Hanako's expense.
Nice day! <3
Wow, I loved how you built your entire analysis on contexts in general. I'll assume to you that I've thought about this too, about the photographs, but it seems to be something beyond death.
Hanako seems to be different from ordinary ghosts, he is not like Mitsuba, there is something about him that he himself fears. The photo in which he appears with Nene doesn't just have blurs, it has these souls that are apparently suffering, and they are accompanying him.
Tumblr media
You see, the Mokkes are blurs too. Where are Hanako's Joudais? Do these souls have any connection with them? What is Hanako? He was shown with a large black hole in his chest in the original manga and in the pilot as well.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Is this something all ghosts have? Okay, we can think about it, but the logic still doesn't add up. Tsukasa also has a blur on his chest, so why is it in the photo?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There are two factors that we have to consider, Nene's cell phone, is it a cell phone that humans use, and what type of device did they use when they took the photo with Mitsuba?
There are pieces missing here.
About the yorishiros, yes, the objects seem to be the real ones, because they are so special and important to the owners, them still having them is something predictable (I wonder if they still exist after having the seals removed)
But the big question is about humans. It's so mysterious how a human can take the form of a yorishiro, is it real? is it a replica? is it a ghost?
Theoretically, Tsukasa should be a ghost because he floats, but Sumire doesn't. There is one thing we have to consider, Sumire was sacrificed, and Tsukasa initially sacrificed himself. Let's remember that Nene said he had a pulse and was warm when he was a child, that is, he wasn't a ghost, nor was Sumire.
Tumblr media
But what about Tsukasa yorishiro? He was born when Hanako murdered him, that is, it was a concrete death and without "apparently" supernatural involvement, he stabbed Tsukasa and he died. It makes sense that he became a ghost and Sumire didn't.
But then, what does the creature in the house do with the sacrifices? Does it consume slowly? Anyway, I digress.
How can someone become a yorishiro? Initially we could even consider that it is the original because of the memories, but the objects also had memories, at the same time, if they are a replica, is the original really dead?
Are you listening? Yes, are you? The sound of silence. No one can answer our question other than Aidairo. We still have no clues as to how a yorishiro is born, only how he "dies".
So yeah, dead status doesn't seem to have that much value, seeing as Sumire was like little Tsukasa, apparently alive in a cursed house. Tsukasa later died, and the proof of this is that when he threw himself into the well, they didn't find his body, that is, Tsukasa was taken in one piece.
When he was stabbed I imagine he actually died, but if that's the case, death is not a prerequisite for becoming a yorishiro. That's because apparently Sumire didn't die, as she was sacrificed in the same way as Tsukasa.
Why didn't Yako turn Misaki into yorishiro? Is it because he had actually died and didn't become supernatural? Tsukasa died and became a supernatural, or he had already become one when he sacrificed himself.
The twins' relationship is very ambiguous, it is a love mixed with remorse, it seems to be a tiring and heavy love, I would like to see more about them, but we don't have many clues other than the current ones.
Anyway, we're still in the dark, it's hard to know how all this works when Aidairo doesn't give us any more clues.
