It really fucking pisses me off that when someone draws Syria with Assad regime flag - it's a tragedy (which is fair) but when someone draws Belarus with Lukashenko's regime flag - then it's okay for some reason. Both Syria and Belarus deserve justice and fair fucking treatment at least in Internet.
Also, guess what? Both Assad regime and Lukashenko's regime are supported by fucking russia.

apropos to that last post by @peonycats i think it’s absolutely essential to know that jordan and iraq’s six month course in how not to be married was and will always still be more functional than anything that’s happened in syria’s love life ever

Your right about RusAme & FrUk
I've been in the fandom since 2012 and those where the only ships I was into at the time. Things have sure changed now but it still similar. Some RusAme fans have grown up and stuck around (me) which is why I think I see more domestic content then before, but immaturity and maturity still divides the groups.
RusAme also does have a lot of adult creators but they are a minority. I think most of them would also agree to this as I've even seen some call themselves immature. I'm also no beacon of maturity myself, which is probably why I sit between the two.
I have also met a lot of fans who've been abused and those who wanted to move on really enjoyed FrUk and those who couldn't move on were into RusAme. That doesn't really change much about the immaturity argument because it's still apart of that reason for sticking to one over the other. It's mostly the difference between people's mindsets. FrUk fans want something good, better then what's currently possible for them and RusAme wants something messier and worse but somehow works. I know some adults into RusAme have had some horrific relationships but they still read it. I've had some real tough ones but I never really think about it when I read or see RusAme content so I don't know how much it's correlated.
I feel like someone in the mental health field could have a field day with Hetalia fans over this stuff because now you have me analyzing myself over my interests.
oh, RusAme does have some great adult creators, especially artists! come to think of it, I think there are plenty of adult artists who ship RusAme; I think the age disparity is in the writers. you make a lot of really good points here though, especially for people who have been through manipulative relationships and don't find RusAme as enjoyable anymore.
Also something that didn't occur to me - and is likely a much smaller factor than the others- about fewer adults shipping RusAme may be the current political climate. like.... right now, the country of Russia is a mafia/pariah state hellbent on a very, very public and highly visible genocide. US-Russia tensions are the worst they've been since Peak Cold War, and it's not sexy, it's terrifying. and that's just... it's really hard to indulge in the escapism of hetalia when that's going on in the background. like literally every time I reblog something with hws Russia, I think of my friend in Kyiv. every single time, without fail. and suddenly RusAme isn't really cute to me anymore, because then I wonder about our friend fighting in Donbas and how I haven't heard anything about him since March.
and you may say that, well, that only started in 2022... but it didn't. this is definitely the most visible it's been recently, but Ukraine started in 2014, and I remember that vividly because it felt a bit weird back then too. I also remember Syria and Chechnya and even Georgia somewhat. and as interesting of a character as Ivan is, the irl backdrop right now is that Putin has been using the Russian state to commit genocide for the past two decades. and by no means am I shaming anyone who does engage with hws Russia content - I still do it. but man, am I aware.

syriaship sweep for the ship thing!! syriyemen, syrirome, syrijaz, syriran 💖
Tumblr media
syriyem: If i'm going to be entirely honest, this one probably makes less sense, but I'm a big fan of the fact that apparently a lot of southern Arabs were recruited by the first Caliphates into helping them cement their conquests of the Levant region, and many of them went on to settle in what is modern day Syria like it just tickles my fancy.... anyways these two are often not on the same page esp in the modern day but they do keep on coming back to each other somehow (old4old) so 😳
syrirome: Severan dynasty and julia domina..... my one and onlys truly 🫡 anyways, my favorite area of roman history is examining rome's interactions in to its Eastern neighbors so this one is really up my alley!!! rome's fave sand twink....
syrijaz: rip to my girl arab revolt you couldve been so good... im not as well read on that area of history/early modern middle east history as i would like to be, but i love hejaz and his odd contradictory ass.... i love how we came to the conclusion that hejaz would be one of those khaleeji men that fancies shami women (or in this case, one milf coded man) syria.... your taste.....
syriran: the secret dark horse syria ship..... this is the textbook case of "way too much bad blood" and "known each other for too long" and it would in fact never work out in a billion years, but it compels me... iran these days enjoys playing mind games with syria more than doing anything physical though lol

In general almost EVERYONE in the industry has done problematic things. But she gained my respect when she posted about Palestine (calculated or not) as well as earthquakes in Syria & Turkey (regions HW stars normally don't care about). In comparison, most HW stars either stayed silent about the Gaza situation or showed their true colors.
I did questionable things as well and i am not in the industry guys
Don’t think it was calculated because it’s actually very risky to post pro palestine

The State of Israel is a modern miracle —a successful world leader in science and technology and a force for good in the world that rose from the ashes of World War 2.
This month marks seventy-five years since the United Nations voted to partition Palestine into Jewish and Arab states. Israel was declared independent the following year and was immediately invaded by neighboring Arab countries determined to prevent Israel’s creation. Fortunately, they failed—and against all odds, the newborn state of Israel prevailed. The fact that to this day, there is no Palestinian state is certainly not the fault of Israel.
The Arabs (they did not even call themselves Palestinians back then) could have had their own state in 1948 or at any time since then. The fact that they did not choose to set up a state alongside Israel tells us all we need to know about their real intentions. Although the UN gave international legal legitimacy to the establishment of Israel, the yearning of the Jewish people for 2,000 years of exile to return to their homeland represents the true backbone and background to Israel’s rebirth.
What is truly sad is that the United Nations, which, in the aftermath of the Holocaust, assisted in Israel’s creation, became, over the years, a purveyor of anti-Semitism and anti-Israel propaganda. The UN violates its own charter by working against peace in the Middle East in its obsession with trashing Israel. “The Commission of Inquiry” set up earlier this year with an open-ended mandate to investigate and criticize only Israel, among 193 countries represented at the UN, is a case in point. The UN’s obsession with Israel has long reached the level of absurdity. One of the annual resolutions dealing with Israel condemns it for “occupying” the Golan Heights.
Israel won that territory, of course, in the 1967 war, which was without question a war of self-defense and survival. Before the war, Syria set up gun emplacements on the heights and routinely fired at Israeli farmers and other civilians in the lowlands of the Sea of Galilee. Is Israel supposed to turn over the Golan Heights to the Assad regime or to the Islamic State, both mortal enemies of Israel?
Unfortunately, this is only one example of the pathological fixation on Israel that has afflicted the UN for decades.
Perhaps the most notorious of the many obscene actions taken at the UN was the passage in November 1975 of the resolution, which falsely stated that Zionism—the morally justified yearning of the Jewish people for its ancient homeland—was equivalent to racism. Seventy-eight UN members—under pressure from the USSR, Cuba, and the Arab League —shamefully voted to pass that resolution. In 1991, the George HW Bush Administration led a drive to repeal the obscene “Zionism is Racism” resolution.
As a Congressional delegate to the UN General Assembly that year, and part of the US delegation, I was proud to participate in that successful effort. President Bush made it a diplomatic priority to undo the obscenity that was “Zionism is Racism.” It was accomplished by a full-court diplomatic press in New York, Washington, and world capitals.
It was made clear that repealing that unfair and outrageous resolution was of significant importance to the United States. It is time to apply that same intensity and that same commitment to ending, once and for all, the annual UN inquisition against Israel. This applies especially to the permanent UN offices created to undermine and denigrate Israel, such as the Palestinian Division and the Palestinian Committee.
Richard Schifter, the late, legendary US diplomat who founded the American Jewish International Relations Institute (AJIRI-BBI) after he retired in order to counteract this double standard at the UN, correctly called these UN entities the “UN anti-Israel apparatus.” Mr. Schifter, who was Jeane Kirkpatrick’s deputy at the UN during the Reagan Administration, felt strongly that the UN campaign against Israel represented a dangerous source of anti-Semitism that spread its malicious influence around the world. He also believed that a concerted effort to change votes could be successful and that this would be in the interest of the United States.
As he put it, “The challenge is to try to make the case to government leaders in friendly countries. Tell them that the UN matters and they ought to give directions to the UN ambassadors to change their voting pattern.”
The continuing ritual of Israel bashing at the UN harms US interests in two ways: first, it contributes to the duplicitous campaign of BDS (boycott, divestment, sanctions) and undermining of Israel, America’s ally. Secondly, and just as significant, it gives a false and dangerous message to the Palestinians. By supporting and endorsing the extreme Palestinian narrative—that Israel is an illegitimate apartheid, colonial state—it not only perpetuates an ugly lie, but it enforces the Palestinian refusal to negotiate in good faith with Israel and finally bring an end to the conflict. Putting an end to this farce, once and for all, would be a great contribution to world peace.

Hey Alfred, have any other countries come to live with you when they have had an influx of immigrants?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Some people stay longer or shorter depending on their government, while some nations don't come at all because they're politically unable! With many they have other nations telling them what to do, so they're really at someone else's whim.
Scotland- Many Scottish and Irish immigrants came to the US while it was still a British colony in the aftermath of the Jacobite Rebellion of 1745, either fleeing prosecution or being deported as indentured servants. Many Scottish immigrants ended up in North Carolina in particular, especially in Appalachia. It's still apparent in some parts of the Appalachian dialect, and the Scottish and Irish also happen to be where Americans get the contraction "ain't" from.
Norway- Many Norwegians immigrated to the United States starting in the 1830s, something that continued through the mid-19th century due to pursuit of religious freedoms, political disagreement regarding the union with Sweden, and the potato blight. They primarily settled in the Midwest and formed farming communities, affecting the dialect there much like the Scottish affected the Appalachian dialect.
China- Many Chinese immigrated to the United States during the 1850s and 1860s to escape poverty and political turmoil in China. They mainly settled in the West and entered the United States through San Francisco. They were involved in the Gold Rush and while the Irish primarily built the Eastern half of the Transcontinental Railroad, the Chinese primarily built the Western half. The Treaty of Burlingame established guaranteed religious freedom for Chinese immigrants and granted them privileges, though naturalization was notably withheld. However, this aspect of the treaty was famously curtailed by the Page Act of 1875, which banned Chinese women from immigrating, and the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882, which banned immigration of Chinese laborers. This act wasn't repealed until 1943.
Lebanon & Syria- During the 1880s, many Syrian and Lebanese immigrants, particularly Christians, immigrated to the United States to escape oppression and political turmoil in the Ottoman Empire. Lebanese were marked as "Syrian" on official paperwork until the 1920s, and both were often marked as "Turks", similarly to Lithuanians being marked as "Russian" or "Polish". The Ottomans later set constraints on immigration to prevent population loss, though it was not a large enough wave to cause this.
