The agency has been working overtime this past week. All hands are on deck as sightings of possible code reds and rogue code blues (more commonly referred to as code purples) in the streets are being reported. These sightings were often followed by cases of vandalized shops or destroyed public properties. 

Although there were no deaths, the cases that were reported were all kinds of gruesome. Men were beaten up, women raped, kids kidnapped and abused, all of that before being disposed off in random alleys of the slums where life was tough as it is.

Amidst all the chaos, it was the JJK Agency that the people looked up to for a solution. And the agency gracefully took helm of the mission that was to stop the ruffian code purples once and for all. The intel had already affirmed that these were all assaults orchestrated by The Crime Syndicate. So, the unknown head of the Agency had issued orders that you were to lead the mission, with all the resources of the Agency at your beck and call. 

You were running in overdrive. But so was everyone else. Agency troops patrolled almost 24/7 the major cities where attacks were most likely. Kaeya and Childe had contacted all their tech buddies to lend the Agency a hand during this busy period; in return for a handsome reward of course. Doctor Hirugami and Doctor Sugawara had their hands full at all times with the number of injured hybrids, good and bad, turning up at their doorstep daily. Nanami, Gojo, and Geto practically lived in the Agency, like most of the cop hybrids and tamers on duty. That was just how urgent the cases had become. The head of the Agency was pressurizing them to take action. And fast. Because if their suspicion was correct, the Crime Syndicate planned on using social unrest as a cover for their actual mission – world domination. 

It would sound like a child's dream. But with the amount of cases being reported, you had a feeling they were well on their way of world domination. All they needed was an invincible armor to help them face the tamers across the globe. And you knew they had found one. The only Code Black in existence – Ryomen Sukuna. 

That was why, regardless of the amount of places that called you for assists in hybrid taming, you would take time out to regularly go and check in on your Code Black, lest he broke the door and escaped, or worse, the Crime Syndicate picked on your door again to take him away. 

You shuddered at the thought of what would become of the world if the Code Black was set loose on it. 

Talking about the Code Black back in your home, Sukuna had turned from the ferocious hybrid king to a sulky little brat. He would laze around the house the whole day, maybe watch television (more like shade everything he saw on there), or follow you around the house taunting you and the entirety of the human race. 

If you weren’t sharp enough, you’d have thought Sukuna had already been tamed. But damn, you knew better. 

He thinks you don’t notice the malice overflowing from his eyes as he watches kids going to school every morning through the reinforced windows. He thinks you don’t feel his lecherous gaze on you every time you turn your back to him. He thinks you don’t hear his mumbled expletives towards the humans on the television, the malice in his words enough to bring tears to the eyes of the weak hearted. 

But Sukuna either didn’t know you noticed it all, or he just didn’t give a shit. And knowing the Code Black, you were inclined to believe the latter.

And hence, regardless of his relaxed demeanor around you, you never lowered your guards around him. With the toll of code purple attacks on a steady rise, you were justified to think Sukuna had some sort of card up his sleeve.

And boy were you right.

The day had been exhausting. You had helped subdue a total of 5 code reds today. But none cooperated during the interrogation. Torture techniques were of no use against code reds who had a high pain tolerance. And the agency discouraged extreme torture against hybrids, limiting you exponentially. “If they were the type to talk, they would have done so the moment we put them through our usual torture techniques. If they kept quiet through that, then they definitely won’t talk even if it cost them a limb.” Nanami had said.

Needless to say, you weren’t convinced. Moreover, the one code red who really got on your nerves was Mahito. He had laughed and mocked you through the entire interrogation, so much so that the interogation team requested you to leave him to them and step out.

That was a big dent to your ego.

“Welcome back home~” the familiar drawl greets you as you get rid of your shoes at the doorstep. A deep sigh leaves you as you take in the unharmed furniture in the hall and the sexy, topless, muscular pink-haired man spread over your couch. “I miss those days when you used to be passionate about killing me. You have mellowed out, hybrid king.” you spat the last part condescendingly, hoping to rile him up enough to get him talking. 

Sukuna chuckles, head falling back to look at you. Even with his head upside down, his eyes linger all over your body, pausing at certain areas. “Say the word if you are bored, puppy. I can show you my undying passion in a million other ways.”

You shiver, his voice is so low and magnetic that he might as well have said that right into your ear.

“Look at you,” he snorts. “And you say I am the one who has mellowed out?” 

You roll your eyes at him, ignoring his words because ouch– they were true. And combined with the memories of Mahito degrading you, your mood drops even lower. And in a move fuelled by the distress you have been feeling lately, you try to tackle Sukuna. 

But seconds after, as he reverse tackles you, your senses return and you regret it. But it’s too late. HE is too close. Sukuna laughs in your face, his hands pinning yours to the ground, and his legs keeping yours in check as he sits on your torso. 

“Mmmmm…” he groans, tracing the vein on your neck with the tip of his nose. “Like I said before, you smell addictive, cupcake.” 

You struggle half assedly, due to the exhaustion of the day setting in and because you know he won’t kill you. He needs you. That much you are sure of. He needs you alive for some twisted agenda of his. Otherwise, there’s no reason he’s left you alive and kicking. Yes, you never dropped your guard against him. 

But he had dropped his. 

Like he had given up on taking your life and was planning to relax until the right time comes. And it was troubling you more than you would like to admit.

Above you Sukuna suddenly jerks, his eyes snapping towards one of your wrists. His eyes squint at the bruise on your wrist, so tiny within his palm. Bringing the wrist to his nose, he sniffs. You raise your brow at him, all struggle forgotten as you stare hard at him, “What are you, a dog?”

Sukuna’s nostrils flare, eyes turning slightly bloodshot as he turns to look at you, “Who.”

“Huh?”

“Who did this?” he asks, shaking your hand in his. “Which mutt was it that dared lay a finger on my property?”

You scoff, “Whose property?” Untangling your legs from his, you easily tackle him again, quickly maneuvering yourself above him. You grab his throat, squeezing slightly. Sukuna chuckles as his palms come to your hips. “My property. And I can see this go one delicious way, cupcake.” You squirm when his thumb rubs circles into your waist. 

“I’m nobody’s property, you monster.” You lean in, ensuring to be confident and firm as you gaze into his eyes. “And the only way this goes is you going out like a bulb.” you punctuate. With another solid punch to his face. 

And as the Code Black hybrid blacks out yet again, you feel your ego restored. You don’t even feel the pain anymore, fist getting used to punching the daylights out of the hybrid. Your eyes go from your fist to your bruised wrist and you sigh, mumbling to yourself “Mahito did this when I was helping the tamers capture him. I'm surprised you didn't recognize his scent.”

“I knew it. I'm gonna kill him.” 

The whispered words startle you as you look down, meeting eyes with a smug Sukuna with a quickly bruising left eye. Instinctually you punch him again, this time knocking him out cold for real.

You pace around the small, air-conditioned room filled with tech stuff. You gotta admit, the two blue codes working before you knew their shit. They had been given a lead only fifteen minutes ago. You can already see them pulling up various high profiles that may have connections with the Crime Syndicate.

“Do you guys even like doing this?” you ask them, hoping it doesn't mess with their concentration.

Kaeya answers, “Not really. But, the pay is good and our safety and security are guaranteed.”

The other one shrugs, “It’s much better than slaving for sloppy lecherous humans who can't seem to keep their hands off us.” Although he spoke nonchalantly, you could detect a sense of derision and resentment buried deep within. “There, there,” you pat his back, “Childe, right? Don’t worry, no one's gonna lay a single finger on you with me here.” You try to send him your warmest smile, hoping to alleviate any negative feelings or memories. 

“Please stop.” A familiar voice calls out. Turning around, you see Gojo striding over to you in steps equivalent to three of yours. He’s clad in designer jeans and a white button-up, completely ignoring the workplace dress code. Lifting the glasses off his gorgeous eyes, he smirks, arctic blue orbs staring down at you. “You are scaring the poor thing.” Aaand there goes his charm.

You roll your eyes at him. 

Gojo Satoru, a full-blown blue code. He is the pride and honor of the agency. If you were the best hybrid tamer, he had to be the best hybrid. Raised since he was just a child to be the spear and shield of humanity, he is highly intelligent and equally dangerous. Gojo is known to be strong, and he indeed is but working with him up close you could label him as a double-edged sword.

His childhood had been stolen from him. He was brainwashed and taught that his existence was only dedicated to serving human rights. You could predict it wasn’t long before he snapped.

Maybe that explains your soft spot for him. You hoped you could be there for him if and when he does snap. Despite the high demand from your juniors to let them see a fight between the best tamer and the best hybrid, you had never actually fought him. You always wondered, though, because, if you weren’t wrong, Gojo was actually a hybrid of the cat family. 

Although he always says he’s just a household cat, you weren’t very inclined to believe that. He had to be from a bigger species, a rarer breed, perhaps.

“Boss!” Childe’s sudden shriek startles you. Snapping your eyes to the screen, you watch as the tanned hybrid pulls up a random string of letters bunched into words that make no sense whatsoever. “We found their next location of attack.”

“It’s an address encrypted in a cipher,” Kaeya frowns, “It doesn't look like the standard DES cipher”

Childe swats his head, “Look at the positioning bro, it’s definitely Railfence Cipher!”

Kaeya’s eyes widen, his fingers making quick work of typing up a decryption program. Kaeya passes the encrypted address through the program, and everyone waits with bated breath expecting the address of the next mall or building the CS was planning on hijacking.

But when the decrypted address appears, everyone inside the room stands shell shocked for a second.

Gojo breaks the silence, “What does this mean, y/n?” He turns around to you, his cerulean eyes narrowed suspiciously.

“I don’t know, Gojo. I-” you stare hard at the address, no, your home address. What would they break into your house for?

Your eyes almost pop out of their sockets, realization dawning as you grab your jacket from the cloak stand, rushing past the hybrids, one word leaving your mouth that clears up all their questions.

“Sukuna.”

You slam open the door, although the lock’s been already picked. “Sukuna!” you yell at the top of your voice.  Fear grips you as multiple possibilities arise in your heart. Your feet carry you around the house, your heart dropping at every empty room that greets you. 

What if Sukuna escaped? What if he broke out on a rampage? God knows the town would be dead before they even knew what hit them. What if he joined forces with the CS? They might become close to invincible with him beside them. What if-

“Oi, oi, oi, watcha making a ruckus for?” Sukuna interrupts your train of thought, strolling into the bedroom, where you were searching for him. His hair is mussed up and his face is flushed. And as usual, the shirt you draped him in before he woke up is nowhere to be seen. Probably ripped to pieces somewhere on the floor.

You stiffen up, back straightening. Instinctually, your senses sharpen, eyes locking in on your hybrid. More specifically on his blood-coated hands and bare torso.

“Whose blood is it? What happened here?” You question him, eyebrows furrowed.

His brow raises. Tilting his head, he smirks, “You being here at this time proves that you already know everything. Why don't you tell me?”

You relax your stance, externally, at least. Smirking back at him, you tease, “Come on now, Sukuna. Won’t you tell mommy about your little kitty party with your friends?”

His jaw clenches at your words, eyes slightly turning red. Growling from the back of his throat, he approaches you slowly, menacingly. And unlike all the other times where he would be dashing towards you to rip your throat out, you know it’s different from his heavy but determined steps.

Stopping before you, he leans down, harshly whispering into your face, “Those lowlives are not my friends!” Then grabbing your hand in his bigger one, Sukuna yanks you with him to the bathroom adjoining the guest bedroom. One look at the blood trail from his cage to the bathroom has your eyebrows rising.

How the fuck did I not notice that?

You wonder if you had been going lax with your guards. Inside the bathroom lays the bloody body of Mahito in the bathtub. Cussing at the stubborn hybrid under your breath, your eyes rake over his mauled features. 

“Why did you hurt him?”

You crouch down and check his pulse. Thankfully, the hybrid is strong and is just fine. Except for the superficial injuries on his face and torso, Sukuna went easy on him.

“None of your fucking business.” He snaps.

You stare at him for a long second. This doesn’t seem right. Sukuna never talked this much with you. You knew he was hiding more than he was letting on. Shrugging it off, you beam at him, “So he broke your heart? Hmm? Rejected your silly ass? Is that it, Sukuna?”

He scowls at you. “Excuse you? I rejected him. Motherfucker wanted me to join his little gang of fuck-ups.”

Your eyes darken. So your hypothesis was right. The CS was trying to ally up with the one code black ever known. Sukuna.

“And why would you refuse?” you question him. 

He shrugs, “Too bothersome. They don’t have anything better to offer than I already have.”

You don’t trust a single word he says, but you indulge him, “They can give you freedom.”

“No thank you. If I wanna take over the world, I don’t need little shits helping me. I’ll do it myself.” His proudly upturned nose makes you smile a bit, but your questions never end.

“Then, why did you not escape?” You expected another ‘mind your own business’, but what he said next, chilled you to the bone.

“It isn’t the right time yet. When I leave, I’m taking you with me.” Leaning down, he whispers into your ear, “I’m gonna give you hell.”

And by natural survival instincts, you fling your fist at him, your knuckles meeting his temple hard. Sukuna groans, the familiar frustration of never catching a single one of your lightning-fast punches overcome by the clouding of his vision as he goes down cold again.

“Stop that!” Gojo whines, shoving at your face with his huge palm.

Swatting his hand away, you raise a brow at him, “Stop what?” 

“Stop frowning! It’s making me anxious!” He whines again. You raise both your brows at him, “Me frowning makes you anxious?”

“No!” His voice is high-pitched and worked up as he explains, “You are anxious. That makes me anxious. It’s a negative trait of being a hybrid. You pick up others’ general emotions.”

You nod your head. You knew that already. Hybrids often picked up people’s emotions with their heightened sense of smell. It’s something about them picking up the hormonal scents released by humans when they felt strong emotions, and how that led to the hybrids’ bodies replicating the humans by releasing the very same hormones, but in exaggerated amounts. At least, that’s what the hybrid specialist, Dr. Hirugami said the last time you questioned him about Sukuna’s pissed mood swings during his monthly check-up. The rest just flew over your head, mind focusing more on keeping the muzzled sukuna tackled to the bed. No restraints were strong enough to restrain the self-acclaimed hybrid king.

“I don’t know, Gojo. Something’s amiss,” you ponder. It’s rare for you to get a chance to idle around like this in the lounge, even rare for the snowy-haired hybrid to be free as well. But now that your hands are free of stubborn hybrids and bossy authorities, your mind can’t help but go back over the stuff that happened over the few days.

“Hmm, tell me. It might help you pinpoint the reason.” Gojo suggests. And you are. once again, mind-blown by how supportive he is. 

Because, from all the harsh training he receives every day, you would imagine him to have some personal vendetta against the human race. You know you would. But no, here he is, kneeling before your seated form, cerulean eyes looking at you with concern as he offers you help.

So you exhale heavily and say what’s on your mind, “It’s Sukuna. Something’s off about him.” You pause to collect your thoughts.

Gojo tilts his head, “What is?”

“I don’t know. He hasn’t been himself since Mahito broke in. It’s like- he’s so quiet, and obedient. And he isn’t responding to my provocations either. Like he’s planning something big.” The uneasiness increases in your gut, a dark foreboding you know not to ignore. “Something’s happening, Gojo. We must be prepared.”

You don’t know why you say that. You don’t want to scare the poor guy. But the discomfort you feel right now? It’s not the normal discomfort you feel when you realize a blood-thirsty hybrid’s behind you or Sukuna’s waiting outside the bathroom door to rip your guts out. No. This is on a much larger scale. And you have an inkling it’s got something to do with the Crime Syndicate.

While you're entangled in your inner turmoil, you don't even notice the big palms clasping yours until you feel their cold temperature against your skin. Gojo looks into your eyes, his firm grasp bringing you back to reality, “We are prepared, y/n. The agency has you, me, Nanamin, Suguru and so many more working in the back. We might as well be prepared for world annihilation. You don’t have to worry about it all by yourself.”

You gaze deep into his eyes, the blue in them keeping you entranced for a long minute. His words reverberate in your ears, but they touch your heart. You feel your body lighten; like a heavy burden was lifted off of your shoulders. 

Of course. How could you forget? You weren’t alone in this. There were so many. So many people working 24/7 in the agency; always watching your back no matter what.

Gojo hums, watching the unease leave your eyes and he gets up, opting to sit beside you. His hands never leave yours though. “I know this isn’t over, y/n. Why don’t you tell me exactly what happened that day?”

You know he’s referring to the day Mahito broke in. No one had officially interrogated you, simply choosing to believe what you reported instead. So, feeling that this might be a good review of that day, you tell him everything.

“Wait wait wait, hold on a second. Did you just refer to yourself as mommy?” Gojo snorts. You scowl at him, “Yeah, I did. But that’s beside the point. I was just trying to rile him up. He talks way more when he’s feeling pissed or provoked.”

“Sure, sure,” he chuckles mirthfully, “Go ahead, mommy~”. You roll your eyes at him before continuing the story, “Anyways, Sukuna retorts back with- uh-”, you try hard to remember his exact words, imitating his grouchy tone, “ ‘those lowlives are not my friends’”.

Gojo chuckles at your poor initiation, but it dies down when your words register, “Friends? You mean there were more people other than Mahito who broke in?”

You shrug, you had already considered that probability, “Maybe. Or maybe he’s just referring to the Crime Syndicate.”

“Oh. Did you question him about it any further?” Gojo probes.

“Yeah, I did.” You sigh, “But it’s like someone switched on a cap over his mood recently. He isn’t even responding to my provocations. And he’s always looking at me so smugly like he knows a secret that I don’t.”

He definitely knows something you don't. And one interaction particularly stands out to you. 

The night was cold; typical of the winter season as you walked into your apartment. Peeling off the layers of clothes off you, you waited for the usual arrival of your hybrid. Sukuna sauntered into the hall, hands buried in the pockets of his sweatpants, smirking at you. 

“Welcome home, y/n.” His voice is husky, deep, and sexy and it's affecting you in all the wrong damned ways. This had to be the first time he ever called you anything other than an expletive. You never imagined hearing your name on Sukuna’s tongue would be this hot. 

You mentally slap yourself out of that temporary haze. Hybrids can smell human emotions, and you couldn’t afford to let him have that advantage over you. 

But from the way his smirk widened, you had a hunch he was playing with you. 

You ignored the way his eyes rake up and down your body, bold tongue licking at his lower lip seductively. Turning around, you placed your purse on the surprisingly unharmed table. Usually, when you leave for work, you punch Sukuna out cold and then unlock his chains, setting him free to stretch out and roam inside the well-locked apartment. The agency even provided you with an iron door just for this purpose. That explains why the experts were so shocked when the break-in happened. The iron door usually opens only with your voice. 

So when you normally returned home, the furniture would be in absolute disarray, having faced the wrath of an imprisoned code black. But not this time. The furniture is exactly as it was when you left for work. Not normal in the slightest. And you questioned him about it.

“Gave up on destroying the furniture? I was hoping you would break this table too. Nanamin promised me to get my favorite oakwood table if you did.” you jest, ready for him to attack you now that you had your back to him.

But that attack never came. Instead, you heard a low magnetic chuckle. “Nah. Now that I know I have to live here for a bit, I might as well enjoy these useless little human creations.” 

That struck a weird chord with you but you played along, always on guard and ready for a sneak attack. What was weirder was that when the clock struck ten, instead of him waiting for you to punch him out cold, Sukuna himself took the initiative to go to his humongous cage in the guest bedroom, locking himself in and falling asleep on his queen-sized bed. Disbelieving his acts, you locked the cage with extra care that night.

You gulp, omitting that part while retelling the story to Gojo. There was no way you would let him know how horny you felt being ogled by a code black. It was humiliating. And morbid. Your mind again went back to that odd memory.

When you turned around to head for your bed after locking his cage, his voice stopped you, his words once again sending that unfamiliar tingle down your spine. “I can smell you, y’know. And I’ll give you that; you smell delicious.”
