lita uses the mafia as flavoring for Phayu and Prapai, seemingly with the intent of more sexy, more dangerous, and/or more alluring. which is ridiculous. mafias don't exist in dramas to make the characters sexy. mafias exist in dramas to give pretty boys trauma and make my faves cry.

i think lita writers intended for the semi-legal street racing to be hot, but what i see is Pakin's recruiting grounds. just look at the rules: no violence allowed, bet anything from money to people, don't. tell. anyone.

bet anything from money to people -> what will you risk, what do you value, how do you treat your 'possessions'

don't tell anyone -> the most important and most obvious rule. why would Pakin give a shit about anyone knowing? the races are an open secret. he shuts down highways. this rule exists so that he knows who might be capable of keeping his other secrets.

the street races are designed to attract reckless young men who come from families with money, influence, and power. they give Pakin not only a lot of information on who might be useful to him later, but also leverage. any consequences from illegal street racing is unlikely to stick to these boys--which is why they think they're safe. but now Pakin not only knows a lot more dirt on them than they do him, but he's also the person they call when they're in trouble (see Phayu, see Prapai)

and Chai's his right hand man. he's the face of the races.

now, there are a lot of character quirks about Chai that i immensely enjoy. as i said in a previous post, the fact that his wardrobe includes zebra print shirts delights me endlessly. him trying to keep his customer service voice in place when the guy calls him a lackey is hilarious. when Rain ordered the mafia men to wait so that he could get a few kicks in on his kidnapper, my first reaction was to text tortoise "Phayu is Pakin's favorite, but Rain is Chai's." and i do think Chai genuinely likes both of them, and i like the idea of Rain sometimes chilling with Chai during the races.

i just don't think it will be enough.

Pakin got two big fish during lita canon--he sort of already had Phayu, given that Phayu works on his bikes and organizes his races, but now Phayu owes him a favor for his men scaring off Rain's kidnapper. and then there's the even bigger fish Prapai, who's the heir to an international corporation, filthy rich, and has shown discretion, loyalty, and drive as one of the top racers--and now owes Pakin a favor and can be threatened with conspiracy for murder. Pakin doesn't care about these two staying around in his races as much as he cares about the fact that he has a hold over them now. one of the main faces holding that power over them will be Chai, and Chai will always be Pakin's man first, Phayu and Rain's friend second.

these boys need to find a way to get away from the races and all these mafia men stat.

But the worst thing of it all was how aroused he'd get around his girl whenever it was a full moon. He knew if he let go, and took her the way he needed, he'd hurt her.

It's not like they haven't tried before.

They had been together for two years. She's always helped him and been there for her, so it naturally hurt her when he started pushing her away and leaving every month. A few months after Klaus had broken his curse, the witch had finally convinced him to let go. And when he did, it didn't take long before he'd stop his actions with her. He could see that she was struggling with how rough he was being. He hated himself for hurting her and after that had happened, he never did it again.

Klaus looked over at the door, hearing his girl closing the front door of the house they now shared. He quickly stood from the bed and listened to her steps as she was making her way to their room.

Opening the door, she saw him standing in the middle of the room and smiled softly. She put her bag down on the small table next to the door and slowly made her way over to him.

Till the end of the moon review

I recently rewatched the drama and felt like reviewing the first Cdrama I ever watched. After watching some cdramas in the past 7 months since I first watched the drama, I now trust myself to write a decent enough review after somewhat familiarizing myself with the genre and overall cdrama space.

Rating: 9.5/10 (1000 bonus points for searing itself in my mind and staying there even after 7 months)

Acting: 10/10

Story: 9/10

Li Susu, an immortal time travels 500 years into the past to prevent the ascension of the Devil god, who goes on to destroy the world in the future. It's a story of love and hate, good and evil, redemption and damnation. The characters are very well conceptualized and depicted beautifully by talented actors, stunning costumes, really good hair and makeup, and great cinematography. The amazing production and set design along with impressive visual effects and CGI really immerse the audience in the world of TTEOTM. This was a high budget drama and it shows... each and every frame of the drama, it feels lavish. If you are even a little bit interested go watch the first episode and l promise you'll be hooked and end up finishing the drama.

Now unto my spoiler filled thoughts:

I find it interesting that the typical backstory themes and some character arcs of the male lead and the female lead have been swapped here. The FL usually has a dead parent or abusive household or terrible luck and so on. The ML usually comes to the FL's rescue or stands up for her and so on. We all know that Tantai Jin is Disney Princess coded given his dead mother, abusive and neglectful upbringing and his animal telepathy powers. LSS both as Ye Xiwu and LSS repeatedly saves TTJ and stands for him. While TTJ also saves her many times, he does not get a chance to stand up for her because she usually takes care of herself and she is not suspected or wrongfully accused where she would need someone to support her. Also, TTJ basically became a part of LSS's family as her uncle took him under his wing and he promised to stay in Hengyang Sect with her in ep 35 before all hell breaks loose. And who can forget that LSS marks TTJ with her Phoenix mark, typical ML behavior.

Their romance is my ultimate enemies to lovers pairing. It has just the right amount of fighting, messiness, animosity and angst for me. I feel that other pairings don't have enough of it for me to consider them as an enemies-to-lovers couple. Their visuals, their chemistry, their acting and the story everything was so great. Who else has three epic weddings in one drama? I am still not able to move on from this couple and drama.

While the misunderstandings were obviously supposed to lead to a turning point in the story, I feel like it was in character for them to jump to conclusions and assume the worst without fully thinking things through and which then led to them acting rashly. I mean both TTJ and LSS had bad history between them so in the early stages of their relationship where their trust in each other was shaky, it's understandable that they were prone to misunderstandings. Also, they're both not good at communicating with each other. In the mortal arc, LSS was never fully honest with TTJ and they never addressed their past misdeeds properly (like OG Ye Xiwu was very cruel to TTJ and he never talked to her about it and just brushed it off). In the immortal arc, TTJ deceived LSS when he became the Devil God.

For the most part the story was gripping, progressed at a good pace and conveyed many themes that become apparent on rewatches. Though it was obvious that the last 5 episodes and the ending were rushed because the censorship rules changed as they went into production. This was one of those dramas that needed at least 5-10 more episodes to properly flesh out the story. It was a missed opportunity that we didn't get to see LSS ruling the Demon realm and Ami's antics.

Another victim of the decreased episode count is the arc of the second leads. Tbh, I wish that Pian Ran and Ye Qingyu were the SLs but I think I would have enjoyed seeing the complete character arc of Xiao Lin/Gongye Jiwu and Ye Bingchang/Mo Nv and the resolution between them. That said it was appalling that they didn't bring back Pian Ran and Ye Qingyu in the immortal arc. I really missed their dynamic with each other and with the main leads. It is disappointing that they didn't even get an open/ambiguous ending to give us some closure and satisfaction.

The actress did a phenomenal job in making us hate her as Ye Bingchang and Tian Huan. Those characters as villians really worked as they were in a way the ones who had the markings of the female lead (these characters at the start of their stories could easily be heroines in any other story) but they turn into villians. Tantai Minglang was a good, serviceable villian and the actor did a lot with how little he was given. Di Mian was selfish and manipulative traitor who was almost scarily competent. I mean he did achieve what he wanted by becoming the Devil God and opening the Tongbei formation. The point of Devil God as a villian is not his character and his motivations but rather he represents our inner demons and how each of us has the power to overcome them.

Out of all the dramas I've watched, only TTEOTM's entire OST is on my regular playlist to listen to. Every time I listen to "Let's be like this for 10,000 years", I feel the love and tragedy of Sang Jui and Ming Ye's story all over again. It's impressive that a song can make you relive those feelings and the story every time you listen to it. All the songs fit wonderfully in the scenes they're played over and also make us feel those emotions again when listening to them separately.

On my first watch, the dream arc felt a little out of place and jarring, which, in hindsight, was probably due to the fact that it was my first cdrama. Upon rewatch I've come to appreciate that it gives a look into the age of Gods and it shows that the Devil God was so powerful that to stop him the Gods had to sacrifice themselves and only Ming Ye was able to survive. The action sequences here are just magnificent to watch and they definitely seem movie level. It also serves as a warning to the audience, LSS and TTJ that they could also have a tragic end if they don't learn the lessons from it. Unfortunately, in the mortal arc they did have a tragic end. However, in the immortal arc, TTJ is able to learn from his experience as Ming Ye and succeeds in defeating the OG Devil God and becoming the Devil God himself with control over his own destiny.

One of the most prominent themes of the drama is redemption and that love and compassion are powerful enough to change a person's fate. The themes of Taoism and Buddhism are evoked throughout the drama. There are also many other minor themes like the food is used as a guesture kindness (when LSS first gives TTJ a proper meal), affection/care (when TTJ gave LSS the goose themed meal), love (when LSS gives badly cooked meals to TTJ), betrayal and trickery (the poisoned porridge) and comraderie, friendship, brotherhood and familial love (when TTJ shares meals with his sect brothers and master). Both TTJ and LSS have dead moms, terrible fathers and great adoptive dads (Zhao You and Qu Xuan Zi), these are just some observations I made.

I may not love the ending but I don't hate it either as it was obvious to me that they reunite once again and live happily as a family (the audio ending really makes it clear). Even though I'm irritated we don't get to see it, I'm still satisfied that we get a hopeful ending rather than a tragic one.

Until now I've mostly been lurking in fandom spaces by liking and very rarely commenting and reblogging but never posting my own original post. The fact that my first ever post is on TTEOTM shows how much I love it. I'll probably be posting more TTEOTM analysis stuff so be on the look out for that if you're interested. Despite todays hard take with Hobi, despite their duty with their nation, they are doing their path , almost succeeding on getting everything they wanted:

After the lasts concerts they where getting more and more things, after all this years of crescent success, thay conquered some wishes:

They got access to social media, managed by themselves(IG)…

They were allowed to share that they have their own homes…

They have started they solo era (postponed once because of success/covid…)

They get to work with each of their favorite artists or so: (that is an amazing thing)(SoYoon albums is fantastic, love it all)

(Last one is a Maybe? , and for Tae we don’t know, but sure he is preparing also an amazing collab, and Suga played with Sakamoto…)

And they have shown us more who they truly are.

I’am a huge fan of them 7, but you know, I’m a JM/JK biased… and know I feel like I know them better… because they show us more and better…being brave and bold… but respecting some boundaries..

Jimin is truly brave with everything about Face.

Jungkook spending time with us in his living room, drinking like the adult he is.

Now I’m 100000000% sure of JM/JK love, however they work it, because they no longer hide their need to be together…

Now I understand why JK was touring alone every barbacue in Korea… taking a rest, waiting and respecting his Jimin to do his thing…

Now I get why Jimin took so much time and effort to make FACE: his “this was me dueling with pandemic loneliness and more struggles”, “my bare truth”…

Now I see how since the beginning of the era of “JK’s late night lives” he has been giving the major hints about his relation… ”emotion on ice” singing every song, doing a live just to finish on time for us to see JM’s work.. doing a 1:45 minutes live about his mochi, with no one on BIGHIT interfering… And after the end of JM’s FACE promotion he didn’t show his support for Jimin’s 100#1 on BB, not publicly??? (Suspicious side eye) but neither do any live (well only that 11 minutes one folding his/theirs Calvin’s)

Now I get why Letter is hidden and some of the meanings it contains…They both won’t ever talk about it… But remember that the track is in an offical Album, there is an allowance for them to do that… such a romantic song either way you think of it!!!

But after all the struggles they 7 are together, more mature with a long future ahead…

The future is the uncertainty, but what ever happen to they seven they will have their love for each other, and our love for them.

This is so random but Sam is literally the coolest older sister ever and it’s so freaking adorable how much Tara 100000000% hero worships/idolizes/emulates her

Random? My brother in christ this is the 'Tara idolises her big sister and wants to be just like her' blog asdfghjkl.

I have always maintained that they're basically the same character split into two, and it's part of why they're so appealing and tragic. Tara is just a little Sam! Except Sam had nobody to support her when she was going through hard times, all she had was her little sister who loved her so dearly and unconditionally but who was not in a position to support her that way Sam supported her, on account of being a baby. And now even though they're both adults, Sam's still looking at Tara as her baby sister who needs to be protected (she'll always be her baby), but Tara's older and stronger now and she can support Sam too, Sam just needs to open up and let her in and trust that Tara can make her own mistakes. (Tara doesn't need Sam to protect her from all the evils of the world, she just needs her there, to help pick her back up afterwards.)

Anyway, Tara thinks Sam is the coolest and strongest and smartest person in the world and she probably spends all her time thinking 'what would Sam do'. Unfortunately, sometimes what Sam would do is Bad and Tara knows that but it doesn't change her path anyway (the partying behaviour directly emulating Sam's poor life choices as a teenager).

Sam also thinks Tara is the coolest and strongest and smartest person in the world, and that just makes her a loser because she idolises her baby sister. She put Tara on the Perfect Pedestal the moment she was born and built her self-worth around how well Tara is doing. Tara's traumatised? Sam's fault. Tara's bad behaviours? Sam's fault. Tara gets stabbed? Oh that is so Sam's fault. Tara's crying? That's Sam's fault and now she wants to cry too.
