rant abt the bsd dub in the tags (both good and bad)
#ok WHO was in charge of the dub voices in the last season#why do oda and fukuchi share a voice#why do teruko and kyouka share a voice#what was going on with nikolai and how do we STILL not know who his actor is#jouno and tecchou's voices were wonderful though <33#like EVERY other character's voice matches them so well and then.#i mean cherami leigh fits both kyouka and teruko but. why does she have to voice two at the same time. they could've found someone new#like tara sands!! she already voiced q but they're not in the current arcs#and i think her voice would fit teruko much better. she voiced bisky in hxh and they have similar personalities#at least w the whole fukuchi/oda thing oda is like. dead. he's not Getting voiced anymore.#but i dont think his voice fits fukuchi at all im sorry </3#mushitarou's voice wasn't my favourite at first but it grew on me i like it a lot#also im pretty sure yokomizo and kunikida share a voice#and i think it actually turned out well but idk its not how i would imagine yokomizo to sound#its not bad though#sigma's voice is fine but it's SO masc#which like yeah CANONICALLY theyre a man but i thought it would be at least a little more androgynous#this all feels very negative so#i LOVE max mittelman as atsushi#i love him in general bc you can tell he loves all his roles#also sometimes i forget that he also voiced meruem in hxh because theyre?? so different?? and they SOUND different too#hes v talented#and kaiji tang as dazai!! so good!!!#again another va you can tell LOVES his role#and he captures dazai's energy so well and he's like. pretty much exactly how i'd imagine him to sound#and RAY CHASE'S (fyodor's) ACCENT. like he did not have to do that but he DID and it sounds so good#adored tachihara's old va but i do get why he had to leave#his new voice is gonna take a little getting used to but that doesnt mean its bad at all!!!#i do think ranpo's old voice fits him better but obviously that's not what's most important#and i think landon mcdonald is doing a good job!!!!

Sorry to come in here but since I love dub directions, as a hypothetical question, who was your dream cast for each? I just love thinking of all the possibilities and scenarios of HOPEFULLY which company can sponsor in the future the whole 200
omg hi anon! i'm going to mostly skip the characters that i liked the official dub voices of if that's alright, and list out the ones i haven't heard in the previews yet or don't remember ^^ also sorry if the explanations are lackluster, i've been looking up so many videos to see ranges of va's i'm writing down and spent hours trying to decide! let me know if you want more characters, and which ones in particular if you do
reborn: i actually don't mind veronica taylor's take on him too much, but something about it just sounds off to me idk, but i can't think of another va except for christina vee to pull off reborn
tsuna: erica mendez's nagisa shingestu from udg would be a great voice for tsuna
yamamoto: johnny yong bosch, i've seen people put him as mukuro which honestly i think would be great too, but takeshi's vibe fits more in my mind
gokudera: eric vale with his voice for sanji one piece, he sounds enough like a nerd and still be angry
ryohei: kaiji tang, there's not a specific voice to pinpoint but i believe he could do a very energetic but still slightly older sounding big brother
hibari: might be a strange pick but cody christian's cloud strife, kyoya has a very smooth voice and i can definitely imagine hearing an "i'll bite you to death"
mukuro: robbie daymond, his range with goro akechi alone (though that vocal performance is extremely impressive) is so fitting for mukuro
chrome: valeria rodriguez using her voice of sucrose from genshin OR suzie yeung's fuuka from persona 3 reload
bianchi: allegra clark, specifically her performance as boss from ai the somnium files
haru: monica rial, watch ouran's dub renge is literally her
dino: max mittelman with his voice as atsushi from bsd, with a hint of ryuji from persona 5
byakuran: daman mills' lyney from genshin but more sinister would fit marshmallow man so well
this was really fun to do actually, thank you for the ask!

Favorite VA performance in the BSD anime?
HHHHHHHHHHHHHH it's hard to decide on only one, I love voice actors 😭
Obviously Miyano Mamoru (Dazai) is a legend, Taniyama Kishou (Chuuya) brings out the perfect energy, but I prefer the ENG dub more for Fifteen!Chuuya bcuz he..actually..sounds like a brat-
I'm probably more impressed with the ones who are voicing uhhh less popular characters on the JP side? Kousuke Toriumi as Goncharov is fcking terrifying (in the good way) and Ono Daisuke (Ace) is just- *chef kiss* (totally not bcuz I like Black Butler-*coughs*) More personal favs are Jun Fukuyama (Ango) and Toshiyuki Toyonaga (Tanizaki)..
On the ENG dub side, PATRICK SEITZ (Kunikida) IS AMAZING???? I'm really happy that BSD has a pretty good ENG dub;;;; Vic Mignogna (Ranpo) is soooooo good, really brings out Ranpo's character, and I just found out that THEY'RE ALREADY DUBBING SEASON 4 AND LANDON MCDONALD (since S3) AS UNTOLD STORY!RANPO MAKES ME WANNA CRY HARDEEEEEEER (ಥ﹏ಥ) *sobs in corner* Honorable mentions: Kaiji Tang (Dazai) & Max Mittelman (Atsushi)
Including the new cast VAs (even tho we barely got a glimpse of them outside PV currently), Takeshi Kusao (Mushitarou) SLAYED in last two episodes (4&5) and I LOVE TAKEHITO KOYASU AS GOGOL HE SOUNDS SO HO- *bonk* I know we haven't got anything with Sigma, but looking at his JP VA's roles, he's in good hands 🥰
Tumblr media
Also thanks to this ask, I needed to look up the VA names AND THE DISCOVERIES SLAPPED ME IN THE FACE AHAHHFGDSHSDHHDSSAJGDS-
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I like how Murakami voiced by (Demon Slayer) Zenitsu's VA in BOTH dub-
Tumblr media
and if anyone curious who voiced Yokomizo (Mushi's writer friend) or why he might sound familiar😌
Tumblr media
AND THESE TWO VAs ARE EVERYWHEEEEEERE-

OK I FINISHED WATCHING THE ENGLISH DUB HERE ARE MY OPINIONS
i will say ahead i’m probably biased bc i don’t watch much dubbed anime. but also that my opinions are in part reliant on my own experience with voice acting in general and dubbing specifically so i’d like to believe my opinions are at least somewhat informed. anyway (this is long bc i have many opinions and i’m passionate abt voice acting. sorry):
kaiji tang carried. here king you dropped this 👑
i already mentioned it but the guild were spectacular, excellent direction and wonderful casting choices. 0 complaints
for the rest of the cast tho. some casting choices were very Off imo. i do like most of these vas and def think they did a good job with what they were given, but their voices. simply do not fit their characters
i love max mittelman to bits and he’s a great actor when it comes to emotions but i can’t say i like him as atsushi :( i can’t exactly put my finger on why unfortunately. i do think he could’ve been excellent as chuuya instead tho
akutagawa caught me off guard at first bc of how different he is from his jp voice but he def grew on me, he brought an interesting take on the character that definitely fits
if i may rant abt ranpo. again i think that’s a bad casting choice. it might be my own take but imo ranpo is supposed to sound childish which he just,, doesn’t. it loses a lot of the effect of his character, esp his introduction, and makes him stand out less which is a shame. i barely noticed the va switch in s3 tho so good job to him
ok now here’s my real rant. chuuya. *godfather voice* look how they massacred my boy. idk his actor and i don’t wanna trash talk his work when it might be a directing thing but my god. why does he sound like he’s constantly grinding his teeth. why does he basically whisper all the time. he’s supposed to scream or at least raise his voice in a lot of places - i’m not saying it from a “he did that in the jp version” but like. visually. you can see he’s being aggressive - but he doesn’t. you basically lose half of his character and practically all of his energy. like ranpo it makes him stand out WAY less and it’s such a shame bc he’s supposed to stand out, especially in the 15 arc oh my god this was a pain to get through. if you ask me, it sounds like a case of an actor finding a voice they like for the character but then finding out that voice simply doesn’t work when they need to do emotional or more intense scenes bc it relies too much on coming from a specific place in your throat that doesn’t work with screams, or you need to hold your mouth a certain way to make it work (i think both were the case here tbh, hence the teeth gritting and whispering sound). we’ve all been there i’m just frustrated it had to be the case with chuuya of all people
ango also. this time i’m just gonna be mean, it’s simply bad acting (there was like, one time where i went “oh he actually sounds like a person” and that’s it. i get he’s supposed to be tired and more robotic but like with chuuya, if he visually shows emotions you can’t speak in a monotone voice it just sounds Bad) AND a bad casting choice bc he sounds 50 when he’s supposed to be in his 20s and not in a good way that gives away that he’s meant to be mature and tired, just in a way that is confusing abt his actual age and simply Doesn’t Fit
ok three rants in a row is enough lemme be positive again uuuuuuh yosano was excellent, if i didn’t know she shares the va with naomi i never would’ve guessed, erica maam your range is insane ily
obviously keith silverstein did an excellent job, he’s a very natural and obvious choice for mori imo. i had some issues with timing in his case but i think that’s just the downfall of dubbing in general and not anyone’s fault - translating can lead to some sentences sounding unnatural when you gotta fit certain sentence lengths, again we’ve all been there, it probably just stands out more bc they came in monologues in his case
i like tanizaki’s voice :) it was pleasant to listen to
ok back to negativity. oda was like. 25% good, the more emotional scenes were nice, everything else sounds like they didn’t tell him he’s recording and he’s just doing a first take read with no actual acting yet. i get that odasaku’s supposed to sound monotone but like, my guy didn’t even sound like a person, that’s more than just being monotone. hard to stay captivated, hard to understand what’s going on, just generally unpleasant too? c’mon man i know you can do better
kunikida was also good! like akutagawa i was taken off guard at first but got used to it p quickly, he’s a great actor and he held the more emotional scenes super well too which def helped
this next section comes from a ray chase enjoyer. mr chase sir if you’re reading this (and god i hope you’re not.) know this is not personal at all. but. bad bad bad casting for fyodor. again losing a lot of his effect, imo he’s supposed to sound somewhat innocent and even child-like so he comes off as more mysterious and you end up more surprised when you see the kind of shit he can pull and to offer more contrast to his ability, but there was none of that! he just sounds sleazy! which he is! but that’s the point! you’re losing an element of mystery! that’s why his design is relatively soft and round too, to make the parts where he’s being creepy stand out more! if he just looked evil all the time he wouldn’t be nearly as scary, and the same effect is achieved with his japanese voice, but not the english one! idk, maybe that’s just the way i personally view the character and ppl would read this and go “wtf are you talking about” but i stand by this.
^also the russian accent is not the best choice and made it harder to understand what he’s saying. sorry. if the american characters don’t have exaggerated american accents (aside from margaret but she also says like, 3 sentences so it isn’t as noticeable) i don’t think the russian ones should have russian accents (esp bc correct me if i’m wrong, the other russian characters don’t even have one??? it’s just fyodor????). bad directing choice (would be funny if he has one in the jp version too but i just can’t tell. if that’s the case then i’ll gladly take all this section back lol)
honestly other stuff i have to say are very nitpicky and personal, like “i would’ve given x character someone with a higher pitched voice” or “the acting is a bit off for y character” sort of things but eh.
*insert karma and komaeda joke here*
last bit of positivity tho is this is the first time i consumed smth with all of LAVA playing named characters!!!!!! very exciting
ok i’m done. if you actually read even some of this kudos to you. sorry for the length and aggressiveness i don’t mean to sound mean, just passionate hehe. perfectly understandable if you disagree with me on anything or everything, and feel free to reply or send me an ask with your own passionate opinions abt the dub, i’d love to hear them!!

A Follow Up Post for the English Voice Casting of Mr Osomatsu
Tumblr media
Okay so I'm doing a part 2 cause the last post didn't mention all the best roles Billy, Ray, Sean, Kyle, Michael and Max did as voice actors.
First up is Billy Kametz as my personal favorite, Osomatsu. What roles has he done? How about everybody's favorite pretty boy delinquent with the stylish hair, Josuke Higashikata from JJBA: Diamond is Unbreakable. Like isekai? He is Naofumi from Rising of the Shield Hero. Love watching anything by Studio Trigger? He's the number 1 firefighting idiot, Galo from Promare. He's also Anai from Aggretsuko, Macaque in Monkie Kid, Rui from Demon Slayer, Dr. Maruki from Persona 5 Royal, Nenji Ogata from 13 sentinels, Asmodeus Alice in Welcome to Demon School Iruma-kun and Ferdinand Von Aegir from Fire Emblem: Three Houses.
Next up is the totally painful cool Karamatsu (and Dekapan), played by Ray Chase. Interestingly enough, he does a couple of Nakamura Yuichi's other roles, one of them being Bruno Bucciarati from JJBA: Golden Wind, He also does Ryoumen Sukuna in Jujutsu Kaisen, Roswaal L. Mathers in Re: ZERO, Noctis Lucis Caelum from Final Fantasy XV, Puri Puri Prisoner in One Punch Man, Tengen Uzui in Demon Slayer, and for those who like Smash Bros, he does the voice of Roy from the Fire Emblem games. (He also did the voice of that subway announcer in Persona 5)
Next we have Sean Chiplock as the nerdy straightman, Choromatsu. For those unfamiliar with his work, he did the voice of Subaru from Re:ZERO, Ishimaru and Monotaro from the Danganronpa franchise, Shin from Dorohedoro, Kazunari Takao in Kuroko's Basketball, Daewi Han in God of Highschool, Frankenstein in Noblesse, Revali from Zelda: Breath of the Wild and my favorite role he's done, Mista from JJBA: Golden Wind! I'm so glad he was chosen to replace the old actor, I'm much more familiar with his voice work anyway.
Oh boy, we got another talented voice actor that's had a lot of great roles. Kyle McCarley is the voice of our favorite emo cat boy; Ichimatsu, but you might also know him as Mob from Mob Psycho 100, 9S in NieR Automata, Ei Sekigahara in 13 Sentinels, Kusuo Saiki from Saiki K. Reawakened, Shinji Matou in the Fate/Stay Night, Simon from Infinity Train, Ryo in Devilman Crybaby, Yushiro in Demon Slayer, Collot in Beastars, Red Blood Cell in Cells At Work: Code Black, Red Son in Monkie Kid, Narancia in JoJo's Bizzare Adventure and a bunch of more roles. If only the last two were major JoJo characters.
Well, Michael Sinterniklaas did appear in Jojo in a minor role towards the end of part 2. Aside from playing as the goofy and loud Jyushimatsu, he is also the voice of Mikey Simon from Kappa Mikey, a teenage mutant ninja turtle named Leonardo, Funshine Bear in Care Bears, Dean Venture from the Venture Bros, a show I recommend for those who like adult comedies like Mr. Oso. Aside from cartoons, he's done a lot of anime stuff too, some of it goes all the way back to the 90s with his first role being Ataru Moroboshi in Urusei Yatsura. He's also Netherlands in Hetalia, Sora in Naruto Shippuden, Moritaka Mashiro in Bakuman, Dagger in Black Butler: Book of Circus and additional voices for a LOT of anime. He's probably a background character in your favorite show, like JoJo's, Naruto or One Piece.
Last but not least we have the only actor that hasn't done anything in JoJo, Max Mittelman. That's fine, because aside from the cute two-faced Todomatsu, he's also the laid-back hero for fun, Saitama from One Punch Man. He's also Ryuji Sakamoto in the Persona 5 games, Tee in Puyo Puyo Tetris, King in Deadly Seven Sins, Meruem in Hunter x Hunter, Kousei Arima in Your Lie in April, Plagg in Miraculous Ladybug, Ritsu Kageyama in Mob Psycho 100, Atsushi Nakajima in Bungou Stray Dogs, Resasuke in Aggretsuko and the list goes on.
There that's about all of them, I'm sorry this post took so long. But I was busy with other things, so taking the time to make this post was gonna take a while. But I'm glad I made it because now everyone can learn more about the english voices behind these brothers the way I did with their seiyuus.

what is bsd about?
I am so glad you asked
Bungo Stray Dogs features a detective agency full of members with supernatural powers. Their main enemy is the port mafia of Yokohama, many of whom also have abilities. They fight over shit.
Almost every character is named after a famous author, and their abilities are based on that author's books. That part isn't as obvious until the North American organization comes in later, where there are characters like Francis Scott Fitzgerald and Lucy Maud Montgomery.
The characters are super fun and I love the art style and animation. It's done by Studio Bones, who also did Noragami and Snow White with the Red Hair, two of my other absolute favorite anime. I love the character design, they've all got such great outfits, with trench coats and ties and button downs and vests...
The music is also very good! It features it's own awesome soundtrack as well as using a ton of Tchaikovsky's works (which my brother, the big music nerd he is, noticed)
There are a lot of really cool fight scenes, and that's coming from someone who gets really bored with action shounen anime. The choreography is really good, and Studio Bones always has just an amazing use of color that really makes fight scenes, and, well, every other scene pop.
Each of the abilities also has their own effect that goes along with it, and they all look just mwah, so cool.

Bones is also just *so good* with emotions. They make silly moments extremely goofy and over the top, but they know how to reel it back and capture more nuanced feelings.

Tumblr media Tumblr media
The dubbing is also just, so good. Each and every character sounds amazing, they're all top notch, and my brothers found it really funny that almost the entirety of Persona 5's main cast is in BSD at one point or another. Max Mittelman and Kaiji Tang, as Atsushi and Dazai, respectively, are particularly great.
I'll admit, they play very loosely with blood, how much people lose, and how many gunshots it takes to hit/kill someone, haha, but anime always does that.
There are a few things I dislike, like Bones' overuse of fisheye lens effects as well as two characters in particular who are a bit uhhh creepy, I'll say, but the things I adore far outweigh the things I don't like!
I highly recommend Bungo Stray Dogs, it's probably my favorite anime.
Also I just really love Dazai.

7 & 9
7. If you had to choose a character to date, who. would it be? (Dead or Alive)
9. Favourite seiyuu from Bungou Stray Dogs? (dub & sub)
Thank you so much! For question 7 I would go with Tamaki. I just love her personality so much. For question 9, Mamoru Miyano (Dazai in Japanese) and Max Mittelman (Atsushi in English). You guys should check out L.A.V.A. (Loud Annoying and Very Annoying). It has Max (Atsushi), Robbie Daymond (Ace), and Ray Chase (Fyodor). They also voiced Ryuji (Max), Goro (Robbie), and subway announcer (Ray).

Are there any characters that you love, but simply cannot RP? OH PLENTY- Genshin wise it’d have to be Fischl and Mona, I love them to bits but I can never find Fischl’s voice for my writing (I tried) and Mona? ...It’s Mona. I can’t change perfection //SHOT Also Itto- I dunno he just won’t click with me but I love him (That’s okay I have another source of max mittelman here -holds Atsushi-) TWST wise however- Trey, Idia, Kalim. I just can’t figure them out so I leave em be~ (I do, however, write Trey on discord...oR I TRY<3)
What do you do when you get writer’s block? Lmao I stare into the void and pray muse comes back by watching 100000 youtube videos (Or Hulu or Netflix whichever one feels right)

HOLIDAY MATSURI LOG
SO ANYWAY I NEVER POSTED THESE BUT I GOTTA FLEX ON ‘EM
YOUR MAIN MAN HERE WENT TO HOLIDAY MATSURI THIS YEAR AND GOT TO MEET RAY CHASE AND MAX MITTELMAN!
AAAAAAND I GOT THEIR AUTOGRAPHS AND A PICTURE WITH RAY (alongside my friends @tinker-pixie and @moonprincess234 ) !
Tumblr media
(pictured, from left to right: me, Ray Chase, moonprincess234, and tinker-pixie)
Meeting Ray Chase was AWESOME!! He recognized me as Osomatsu right away and he sounded really happy and surprised!!! He hugged me!!! I was so happy omfg
He reassured me several times that THE OSOMATSU-SAN DUB IS COMING EVENTUALLY and I BELIEVE IN HIM AND AM EXCITED FOR IT! He also called me a Karamatsu Girl and aAAAaaAAAaaa.
I brought along my Karamatsu and Todomatsu art books to get autographed and
Tumblr media Tumblr media
BAM!  (Max’s line was a bit less personal but it was full of people there for Persona 5 and One Punch Man, and he wasn’t repping for OsoSan yet so I can understand why)
But yeah. I got a bunch of cosplay pics too, along with a keychain from Bungou Stray Dogs (of Atsushi) and a hat that says ‘TRASH’ on it, so that’s neat! There weren’t many OsoSan cosplayers there, but to the two that were cosplaying Karamatsu and Ichimatsu that I met, if you’re out there, STILL RESPECT YA!
I was also in two panels as a volunteer! I was part of the Fire Emblem Three Spouses panel (I played a dating game and got to hug a lovely Ashe + acted as Bernadetta for another player), and I was part of the Hamilton panel as the stand-in for Madison/Mulligan! Those were also super fun!
So that was my Holiday Matsuri experience~ a good time was had by all.
