The fact that my PS4 isn’t currently downloading Horizon Burning Shores because it’s only released on the 5, even though Forbidden West was released on the 4 AND 5, is criminal….and while I somewhat understand why it’s on the 5 after watching the trailer, I’m peeved that a small DLC is so exclusive when the (massive) main game wasn’t. I mean, I’m so glad I got to play Forbidden West, but still…and don’t even get me started on the increased price for new the Zelda game dropping next month.

So wasn't expecting to make this Gaming Hot Take of the day but after reading this from Sony CFO Hiroki Totoki I gotta be honest I had to write something
Tumblr media
So look, I can kinda understand this stance in a very retrospective sense as he says "Fostered from the beginning." Playstation 1 in particular didn't really make a big distinction between its original IP and its Third Party IP. It's why you had Crash Bandicoot or Cloud Strife as basically the mascot of Playstation when both come from third parties. Compared to the likes of Mario and Sonic who were not only their console mascot, but company mascots respectively.
But by now, Playstation has an undeniable back catalogue of first and second IP that it can either revive or rerelease if need be. Like if we're looking at like multi entry series and not just one offs, by the PS2, Sony had:
Jak & Daxter
Twisted Metal
Ape Escape
Sly Cooper
MediEvil
Wild Arms
Dark Cloud
Everybody's Golf
God of War
Rachet and Clank
And by the PS3 we have
Infamous
Uncharted
Killzone
Resistance
Little Big Planet
Like Sony has their own catalogue that can stand on its own. Its not like they should be struggling now to play catch up.
Now if you read my recent Emio and Mages post, I am very well aware that in the age of modern gaming, a game doesn't get made without a team devoted to it. And with the rising production and time costs of making games, no company can release a hundred games and be profitable. So sadly some IP just do fall by the wayside in favor of others. Guerrilla Games isn't making Killzone anymore, because their efforts are spent on Horizon and Sucker Punch went from being the Sly Cooper guys to the Infamous guys, to now the Ghosts of Tsushima guys.
However, I feel like Sony has had some circumstances that compound this problem. Sony and Playstation are technically powerful machines-they want to fully utilize the hardware they're selling you for hundreds of dollars. It is their brand. However, the downside to this is because of this the rise in production costs, it's now taking much longer to make games that make use of the powerful hardware. We went from being able to release a full trilogy in a single generation to basically one. Its also made worse by the fact that Sony has been very active in shuttering studios and cutting costs. The biggest would be the loss of Sony Japan Studio, who were beloved for their more varied Japanese-y style games. It added flavor to the more Naughty Dog inspired games of the sixth and seventh generation. But now, Sony went all in on being that one big budget release that leaned more towards broader genres that could maximize the amount of sales like Uncharted, The Last of Us, Spider-Man, etc.
With this, a lot of mismanagement, its really made the PS5 era feel very sparse compared to the PS4. Now, I wanna stress this, I actually do not subscribe to the mentality "Playstation has no games." Playstation has tons of games beyond just their first party titles, some are exclusive like Final Fantasy 16, some are just way too powerful to be something that could be played on a switch like GTAV. Heck, I played Bomb Rush Cyberfunk on my PS5 and it's probably the game I've dumped the most time into this year. So yes, even if Playstation's first party offerings are few and far between, you're still capable of playing a lot of good games on this really expensive plastic box.
And maybe that's indicative of the fact that Playstation has always been about selling you the hardware on the basis of the hardware. Going back to the PS1, the main selling points was this was the haven for third parties after Nintendo really burned a lot of developers with the N64, and that this was a much more system than the N64. When you look at someone like Nintendo now, they're hardware is underpowered they live and die by the power of their software that only they can provide and no one else. But the playstation even if its not shooting out a new Jax & Daxter every year, they're still the place you can play something like Final Fantasy or Elden Ring at a really great clip. Perhaps Totoki was alluding to that reliance on hardware instead of software because in retrospect, they never really had that big homegrown system seller on playstation till the PS2 with things like God of War. And now fostering that, has made it hard to have that sort of Zelda or Halo that are so undeniably their companies IP and will move launch units.
But a reliance on just being the place where you can play games at a high fidelity, means that its still got competition from Xbox and PC. So Sony would have to offer a service the others don't and that can be software you find nowhere else. True story, I was genuinely conflicted about getting a PS5 or and Xbox X/S for my birthday because I knew I needed to at least have a strong machine to play with my switch. And ultimately I took PS5 because that was the console that would have God of War Ragnarok and Spider-Man 2. So yes, IP absolutely factors into purchases in my experience. And the fact that this generation Sony has really struggled to put out first party games, really makes that purchase factor feel so much thinner and thinner. When you know-you know Sony has loads of IP (Some that haven't left their respective console) that even a simple remaster on the PS5 could at least hold people over in-between their AAA releases. So to hear their CFO say that they don't have enough IP, gets very disingenuous.
To close this out, I wanna stress something. I don't think wanting to make new IP is a bad thing. Im glad Sony is willing to invest 8 years and millions of dollars into something new. But eventually, we reach a point where this has to be better managed. We have to have some smaller titles that can be released between the bigger ones. We gotta have some variation in the types of games we're getting from the platform holder. And sometimes leaning in on those fan faves for smaller titles would help. Are they gonna sell 10 million units? More than likely not. But if you balance the budget, having something move between 1-2 million units would be acceptable. Perhaps maybe allow more second party developers a crack at using that IP so your internal teams can work on the bigger blockbuster titles?
The PS5 generation has been a pretty all over the map one for Sony, and the more we learn about the thoughts and management behind the scenes, the more aggravating it can become when this platform does something really cool, but then seems to take two steps back. I genuinely can't tell you if I'll get a PS6. But if I do, it will probably not be out of optimism for classic Playstation franchises to return.

Playing Ace Combat 7
Started playing the game today! I'll go little by little and updating this post through reblogs sksksksks
@technoblade-apologist-and-proud this is for you buddy, since you asked :] Starting with Mission 1 and 2 today
(Putting stuff on read more bc I get a little self concious of long posts)
First impressions of the game upon opening it: Menu music is beautiful "Wow this is so. Graphic design. Wow." upon seeing the actual menus "Why do we have cowboy music on the cutscene?" Girl talking about loving the color of the sky instantly made me remember the damn "Don't you love the color of the sky? / Which one?" classic tumblr post. "That plane looks like a tesla" upon seeing the drone in the cutscene Started laughing for a whole minute when rave music started playing in the plane selection screen before the mission.
Right out of the bat we start Mission 1 with DEATH from controller. I didn't know what to press and the screen only told me about R2 to accelerate so I killed myself by crashing on the end of the take off thingie. This was a warning to what was about to come.
I need to publicly apologize to every Ace Combat fan that has ever lived because inverted controls make me feel insane so I had to "invert" them back to normal. I am very sorry. I have failed you all. Don't look at me.
Anyways, first mission went TERRIBLY. WHO have me a license. I was DRUNK driving in the skies. Absolutely dogshit piloting skills. I didn't know it did a neat little replay of the mission at the end + the replay with the tiny lowpoly planes. Humiliating. Everyone was flying to neatly and I looked like I was using my plane for a ribbon dance.
As someone that played Drakengard on the ps2 and Armored Core on the ps4: Piloting a plane is much more similar to riding a dragon than piloting a mech.
There's a lot going on in the cutscenes, the story seems cool and I have an idea of it already but by god they just feel so goofy sometimes, very silly, I am very lost.
Second mission started terribly as well, I still fly like I'm drunk, I died at least 5 times because I turned a little too much and crashed on the ground. At some point when I was managing to stay alive I thought I was gonna fail from the time running out because I just couldn't hit the targets.
Also. Did you know? In Armored Core you press X, Square and O for boosting and movement, and L1/L2 R1/R2 for your weapons. Ace Combat is the opposite. I've been playing Armored Core for a month already. My brain is having a hard time trying to grasp the controllers, somebody help me.
Second half of this mission went better than the first half bc I *am* learning but by god. I died once because I hit the ground again, I keep doing it, my pilot craves the safety of the ground. It was a nightmare trying to get to the targets to properly hit them but I did manage to do it.
All and all? Game is pretty fun! It will be a challenge to actually learn how to play, specially with expert controls, but that's the fun of every game, learning and mastering!
Had to stop for today but I'll reblog this once I play more :]

Introducing: Koei Warriors Retrospective - the new Koei Warriors Rant Series (1000th Post Special)
Tumblr media
In 2014, I began the Koei Warriors Rant Series in an effort to speculate the reason why Koei Tecmo weren't localising their games with English dubbing and hopefully find or get an official response. Two years later, this was followed by the Dub Logistics series in an attempt to broaden it to the wider scope of the Japanese gaming industry and English Dubbed Game News, a Facebook page intended as a counter to the Undub page informing fans about the localisation status of Japanese games.
For a number of years after that, I was calling out the duplicity of Koei Tecmo's PR and the intolerance of their fanbase and other non-English dub fans. In 2018-19, I ended my English dub rants, left the Koei Tecmo fanbase and deactivated EDGN after the dishonourable disgrace that was Dynasty Warriors 9. Then, when the pandemic happened in 2020, I decided to start indulging my guilty pleasure of playing my favourite hack-and-slash games from the company that made subpar localisations of those games despite knowing what they did and feeling bitter (yet somehow vindicated) over it.
In late 2021, I built a gaming PC and moved my games from my laptop (which was faster than my old PC) to it. At the start of 2022, I learnt that PS3 emulation was a thing and I decided that I had no excuse to not play the Koei Warriors games released for the PS3, with most of those releases not receiving PC ports. I also went on to play the newer PS4 games through their PC ports and went back to the older games on the PS2 and PSP (the latter I was already doing on my old PC during the preceding years).
Around the same time, I realised that in all the years I had been ranting about English dubs and localisation in Koei Warriors games and Japanese games in general, there was one thing I never did; I never really talked about the games themselves. As I played through the games, I had opinions about certain mechanics and issues with certain aspects of the games outside of localisation, some that fans know and some that fans may not know. So let's change that.
After being delayed by two years due to various factors, I am proud to announce the relaunch of the Koei Warriors Rant Series in a new format called Koei Warriors Retrospective. In each instalment of this new series I'll be talking about each generation of Dynasty Warriors, Samurai Warriors and Warriors Orochi games along with their expansions and spin-offs on consoles, handhelds and PC (mobile games will not be covered). I'll also look into where Koei Tecmo went wrong for the Warriors games to be in the current state they're in. In a way, it's like WildcatWeather's "I Played EVERY Warriors Game" series, but more in depth, particularly with games that were exclusive to Japan where WildcatWeather only touched on them in his videos (as his focus was only on games released in the West).
Some things to note here - I will be reviewing Warriors All-Stars at some point, but there are some games that I will be unable to properly review for various reasons that I will mention during the series:
Jan Sangoku Musou/Dynasty Warriors Mahjong (雀・三國無双)
Dynasty Warriors Online (真・三國無双 Online)
Samurai Warriors Katana (戦国無双 KATANA)
Dynasty Warriors Next (真・三國無双 NEXT)
In addition, I have also prepared non-retrospective material that will be posted gradually. Aside from the list of recycled maps from DW6 being used in DW7, there are two other series coming up, namely Warriors Orochi: The Recollective Redux (a redo of the 2015 series) and the Dynasty Warriors Weapon Moveset Power Rankings (a review of the weapon movesets in DW7 and DW8). Other plans are also in the works as well, but for now, enjoy the lineup as I commemorate 20 years of me playing Dynasty Warriors games and 10 years of the Koei Warriors Rant Series.

So I don’t know what decade we’re in, but if Team Caster is getting a PlayStation we need to talk about what games to get. If it’s a PS2 or PS4 my suggestion is Shin Megami Tensei III Nocturne (featuring Dante from the Devil May Cry series).
Tumblr media
"I wouldn't worry about that. Cleopatra's 'Golden Rule' skill, despite being reduced slightly as a Shade, will allow her to uncover whatever you desire."
"...That is, if she went out, purchased what she was supposed to, and returned here... and she should have returned a while ago. I wonder if she ran into any trouble."
Tumblr media
'Ominous-looking Woman': "...I raise...!"
'Gloomy-looking Man': "H-hang on... this betting round just started, right? Are her cards that good? Look at how much money she's putting in...!"
'Rough-looking Man': "No, this is somethin' different... look at her clothes. She's the type of rich gal that has so much money that she can't properly read when to raise or not!"
-
ACTIVE SKILLS:
'Shade Cleopatra' (Familiar of Caster)
Golden Rule (Wealth & Body) B--: A skill that allows the user to bet recklessly without fear of going broke, while also being charming enough to not be immediately removed from the table.

Alright after almost having an irrational breakdown over whether or not I’ll see Spiderverse spoilers, I went to go see it
And since @psychedelic-ink wants to talk about it with someone, here are my notes :)
Spoilers below the cut, proceed with caution
My sibling said they knew of a cameo and I thought it was gonna just be J.K. Simmons as J Jonah Jameson (in two universes)
I was surprised that Gwen took up the intro. But I’m not mad about it, just unexpected. Which is exactly what she said “let’s do this differently”
THE RENAISSANCE VULTURE AHHHH so cool. Loved how the style clashed with the rest of the universe
Miles’ mom’s Spanglish is no joke. She would change mid sentence (mid- word???) my (limited) Spanish class knowledge can’t keep up 😭😭😭😭New respect for the Spanglish kids having to decode their parents all the time
Also was Miles’ roommate playing the Spiderman PS2 game? Like the controller was new but I swear it looked like the PS2 game. I understand the new Spiderman PS4 and PA5 game is popular rn so I’d get if it was that instead. I’m just not as familiar with that
I thought from the trailer that the spot was going to be a minor villain and they weren’t gonna show the main villain. But I like how they made him a genuine threat. He’s still a nerd tho
WHEN GWEN’S FATHER TRIED TO ARREST HER OMG. A cop’s a cop
Pavitr is so 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰 I love him
His hair is that luscious bc of shampoo and genetics lol. I get that a lot with my complexion. Never had any publicly visible acne, and yes I love flaunting that fact at least once a year so. This is the one
I thought “wouldn’t it be messed up if they reversed this a killed the captain anyways?” And I’m so glad they didn’t. Please let Pavitr continue to be the golden child. He deserves it
AND HOBIE!!!! He hates the AM and the PM (prime minister) lol. The comedic relief we didn’t know we needed. Also he is super hot. Is he a teenager tho? Hold on. Still don’t know. I’m not about to swoon over a teen but he looks over 18 and I have a soft spot for punk guys 😌😌😌😌
Hobie and Mayday is the best pair and they only had a few seconds together. Sad
ALSO, only critique, I was severely lacking in Mayday content. I would like to see the baby. Give me more Mayday
Does this make Miles Mayday’s godfather? Cause I hope so.
DONALD GLOVER AHHHHHHHHHHH
Donald as the big cameo was the best. I audibly gasped. Our hero. Thank you for sparking Miles Morales
Of course I loved the other Sony Peters.
Also I didn’t realize that was PS4 Peter saying “are you talking to me?” during the video game characters in prison. I thought it was Miles
ALSO WAS THE SPECTACULAR SPIDERMAN TALKING TO (I believe) MILES BECAUSE IT LOOKED LIKE IT
Oh! How could I forget the Lego Peter Parker ❤️❤️❤️ I cackled that Miguel said Lego Peter did some of the best work. Like hell yeah he did. Legos don’t mess around 😂
ALSO DID YOU KNOW THE LEGO SEQUENCES WERE ANIMATED BY A 14 YEAR OLD???? Crazy
Moose-teriyo
I know Miguel is trying to to save a whole universe and doing it for the greater good but holy cow man. He’s a child. It’s his dad you’re talking about. He’s not gonna be rational, and don’t ever expect him to. I wouldn’t. Like I don’t care, I just want my dad to be alright.
Also what is his beef with Peter B. Parker? I feel like there’s more there
Miguel’s backstory hurt tho. No wonder he’s traumatized. I’d become the antagonist too (not villain - just the person that gets in the way of the protagonist)
Also who’s the daddy of Jessica’s baby? We only got glimpses of her backstory. Like did she remove herself from the baby daddy? Did he die? Is Miguel the dad? I doubt it but I’m just nosey. I need her specific trauma gimmie gimmie. Jessica having a soft spot for Gwen. Women protecting women. Gotta love it
Is this the first movie to incorporate footnotes? I feel like it is. It’s certainly the first one I’ve seen. Also “I haven’t got a Scooby Doo” is a phenomenal phrase. And I’m so disappointed that the Brits use it and not us. Like, come on. We’re Scooby Doo capital of the world. Every American loves Scooby Doo.
Okay, Miles being an anomaly was a great twist. But wouldn’t his world collapse then? Wouldn’t Earth 42 collapse? Wouldn’t Miles glitch more? If Mike’s was never meant to be Spiderman than why is the multiverse not already erasing itself?
I think Miles and his universe is the key to restoring other universes, especially the ones where the holes were contained.
PROWLER MILES AHHHHHHH
I kinda knew he’d get stuck in a dimension tho with the “don’t get lost” line from mom. But I didn’t expect a world without Spiderman! So cool.

08/23/23: Wednesday fleamarket finds. Came across some good stuff today, I had to leave the place and pull out some more money from a grocery store nearby. First thing bought was for $5.00, two Blurays and a Godzilla dvd. The next stall caught my attention with something cool. A ps4 VR set! At first, the guy wanted $50 for it. And I wasn't sure if it had everything. So, I posted on social media whether it was complete and worth it. Most everyone replied yes, and a pic someone sent me showed me a parts list. It was missing the AC adapter. So when I went back and told the guy it's missing its plug, he lowered it to $40. Next seller had more movies. Four Disney blurays and three dvds for $15. I then found more games and movies from another seller. I spent $25 here, getting: one James Bond dvd set, three dvds, three ps3 games, one ps1, ps2 and 360 game, Red Dead Redemption 2 steelbook Xbone and some extra memory cards and ps3 mini USB cable. Also included was something quite interesting. A Wendy's restaurant Mario Gameboy Advance themed mini board game. This thing must be over 20 years old by now. It's sadly crushed a bit and missing a few paper tokens in it. But it's interesting nonetheless. As I kept looking, my eyes caught something retro. I thought I got lucky again and found a classic 80s toy. But the thing was too clean to look like something from over 30+ years ago. It was a Teddy Ruxpin bear from a few years back, not the OG. It didn't have the built-in cassette player of the original, but a spot for a mini cartridge. But the dollar I got it for was quite worth it. After this, I found more ps3 accessories. A ps3 controller for $5.00 and another move controller for $3.00. I also found more Stranger Things season one sets from the same lady I bought a few weeks ago. And still a dollar. Finally, the last thing I bought was a wii console for $10.

Some thoughts on the first hour of Final Fantasy X, from someone who has never touched it before:
Wowie I forgot Final Fantasy games traditionally have really fucking strong openings because of how blah 9 was. One of the best songs in the franchise (To Zanarkand) playing over some kinda in-media-res cutscene of everyone looking exhausted and the expressions on Yuna's face when she leans into Tidus and the read of "Listen to my story. This... may be our last chance." and it's all being rendered in-engine, good fucking stuff.
Crazy that Sora AND Tidus both have that goofy-ass run animation.
I have to wonder if the fact that the setting being (as many people have pointed out) based largely in Southeast Asian/Pacific Islander aesthetics/culture is because they wanted to flex THE POWER OF THE PS2 with a lot of watery environments and those cultures were a natural fit for watery environments, or if they chose that first and then went "wait, we can do a lot of cool shit with water!!!"
It's so goddamn refreshing how Tidus kinda just rolls with everything. He gets with the picture real fuckin' fast, considering how insane the circumstances are, and because this is a pre-irony poisoned world, he's not commenting on how fucking weird it all is.
I always assumed that Tidus was isekai'd directly to the village with Wakka, so the mini dungeon tutorial where Rikku shows up was a genuine huge surprise.
Jesus Christ, no wonder people always spoke about the Sphere Grid the way they do. What the fuck were they cooking with this???
I also always assumed that infamous scene where Tidus laughs really awkwardly just comes out of nowhere, but like... Wakka does that right away. He does the same boisterous AH-HA-HA-HA!!! laugh and Tidus goes "I know he was trying to cheer me up". How are people so bad at understanding media for teenagers.
The thing I genuinely miss the most, playing on a PS3 rather than my PC/Modern Console, is that I don't have a share button to take screenshots. I never would have thought the share button would become so integral to my experience with video games when it first became a thing with the PS4/Xbone, but it really is so nice being able to take screenshots and video while playing as a native function.
I probably won't be doing more posts like this but I just had a lot of thoughts going in mostly blind.

Besides souls games, are there other games you absolutely love and take inspiration from? _(._.)_
Oh boy, there are so many games I enjoy and love for many reasons and take inspiration from!
Of course, many of the Souls games take this title to pushing me into enjoying my current little state of world building, but I can't give them all the credit for this!
A good chunk of this actually goes to one of my favorite games since childhood and that game is Tak and the Power of Juju! I used to love playing this game as a kid all the time back when I lived in Germany! I still do in fact enjoy it very much! Its sequel was alright and still just as fun, but its final game Tak and the Great Juju Challenge was definitely a great way to end the series on a good note (I do not count the last game added after because it sucked xD)! The Tak series definitely started me off in going into the realm of story and world building!
Another game I take a lot of inspiration from as well as enjoyment is Skyrim! My first Elder Scrolls game, of course, but definitely a fun one with so much lore and things to do! The world and story building sets itself up perfectly and I just LOVE going through each of my characters profiles to envision their stories come to life and the impacts and interactions they make. Oh gosh do I love it!
Next after comes to both Red Dead Redemption games! I admit, I am a huge sucker for Wild West settings and stories and these games got them both! Recently watching playthroughs and playing myself have got me inspired to make a new story with my bestie as well as revive some old stories I had set in these types of settings!
Of course, I can't go without adding the Five Nights at Freddy's franchise to this list because that would be wrong of me to do xD But yes, FNAF has both made its list as something I love and get inspiration from because its so all over the place and open for many kinds of interpretations that the story telling is endless for it go!
Legend of Zelda, especially Twilight Princess, holds a very special place in my heart as well for the same reasons as the others listed! These games are just gorgeous to look at and provide so much to go for! I can gush all day as to why I love this series and Twilight Princess especially!
As for fun games, here are a few to list!
Super Smash Bros for the Nintendo 64! Fucking love this game and I wish I still had a copy and that my N64 worked well as it did before it gave up a few years ago. I can play hours fighting every computer and opponent alike like a champ!
Second after is the old Sonic games on the Sega! I played these games for hours on end as a kid and I can recount all the good memories I've had playing this game alone or with my baby brother! <3 I still love these games to death and when Sonic Mania came out, you bet your soul I went right for this game the same way I did as a kid!
Third goes to the original Star Wars Battle Front for the PS2, another game in which I would spend hours playing without getting bored or tired! Anytime I play this game I play on the hardest mode possible because I just LOVE the challenge it gives and the whole feel of being the battle of it all! None of the other Battlefront games really captured that fun and enjoyment I had with the first game. I do hope that one day, the original will make a come back on the PS4 Network to play in full again! I love this game!
Another goes right for Simpsons Hit and Run and Road Rage for the PS2! Play these games and you will know just why and how fun they are! I love these games and I will tell you like the others, I have played hours with these games nonstop and loved every moment of it!
And I can't forget the Saints Row franchise as well (minus the Gat Goes to Hell game). This game and the progression is went through is just a fuck ton of fun! The stories are fun and to be able to just unleash chaos while being a total boss is absolute fun!
I also will add Pokemon, Digimon, and Mad Max too as some of the most fun games I’ve played and loved too!
I have so many other games I love and enjoy but to list them all is just gonna take forever x') STILL-
I love games and playing these ones especially! <3

Husband Plays Miraculous: Rise of the Sphinx
So we returned the Switch version and bought it on PS4. hopefully less buggy. So far it's. loading more quickly at least.
looks better, but textures are still shit
Infamous Mr. Pigeon. as if he's effective.
Okay the in game stuff actually looks better
random collectible goooo
Her dodge still sucks, but it feels better.
I did not think the games would be this drastic of a difference between them.
The reason this looks like a PS2 game is that it's just about as big as a PS2 game.
Oh there's a skip button! The game froze when I pressed the skip button.
Marinette's hair is so bright blue. it's the PS4 case blue.
Lila doesn't have teeth.
There's no Cataclysm surrounding his stick now.
oh wait yeah there is.
I do like the idea that they have here that they are changing the way Paris itself operates. It sells certain enemies as more powerful when there's drastic changes to Paris because now they are here. It also fits as a little platforming area and I do like that.
so they only clearly have one fucking song from the show to work with
This game is definitely a better version than the switch version. it's easier to put up with at least. But that still doesn't make it good.
[[we finished soundwave, getting us back to where we'd left off]]
You know what's strange? there's none of the powerups they formed an entire system around. the different color macarons could have been different powers unlocked, but nope
oh my god Chloe actually is an insta girl. that's expanded characterization.
I think you can buy concept art from the kwamis. It's higher quality than the cutscenes.
This is missing when Ladybug and Chat Noir are handling non supervillain issues. like a robber, or a kitten in a tree.
Wait can I get hit by a car
No
This version feels like Marinette's not running through molasses.
What the fuck is this bit? [[Marinette in trouble with Officer Roger]]
This is bullshit.
Okay no they are the most popular bakery they can pay a fine.
There's no proper shading here [in the overworld]. I think it's the lighting. It's better than the Switch version, but
Alyaaa what the fuck girl
"pretending I slurred him" what type of racist slur could Marinette say to a white man
Okay but Roger does actually abuse his position as a policeman, Hawkmoth is right here
Oh I'm floating
You can't check the scrapbook. because her dad is akumatized. and you can't talk to him.
Why isn't Sabine out here? is she being railed by Weredad right now?
Those mooks actually took multiple hits, holy shit
Why is it paper forms when he's Weredad? Wouldn't he be like Taxman?
[[We tried two player mode for a few moments. Chat Noir went ahead without Ladybug, who despawned immediately, and then respawned in the water, and died immediately. This kept happening. She was stuck in the water no matter what. Husband switched back to one player, was forced back to where Ladybug was, as Chat Noir. Went forward a while, switched to Ladybug, forced back to being in the water again. Literally could not move on. Ladybug appears to be stuck there for the ENTIRE LEVEL.]]
This doesn't feel like Notre Dame. unless we're on our way to Notre Dame.
I have to abandon. I need Ladybug to progress. The two player mode actively broke the game.
It loads me all the way back to THAT?? [[Weredad's akumatization]]
How do I check the friendship thing? [in the scrapbook.] But we can't get to the fucking scrapbook!
NEXT TIME: we're gonna go through the Weredad battle.

2. Forefront Research -God of War Process
Another game series that has strongly influenced my art choices is God of War. While doing my research on the forefront games that I believe to have raised the bar when it comes to games art, I came across an article posted by Richard Leadbetter on Eurogamer, which analises in detail the 3D modeling of God of War 3.
Fig.1: The Making of God of War III Article by Richard Leadbetter
The original God of War 3 was released in 2010, it has been remastered in 2015 to match the level of current games platforms such as PS4 and PS5. Even though it may be considered old, the article still provides essential information regarding the studio production of the characters, which helps me get a deep insight of their work pipeline, as well as understand the technical evolution of the industry. Not to mention, at it's time of release, it was considered the world's number one videogame.
In the article, art director Ken Feldman states that "Kratos went from being a couple of megabytes to now, it would actually take two PS2s to fit his memory footprint all in there. He is always loaded in the game. The other thing is that he has many more weapons, too. He can load between all of those different weapons, so all that stuff is loaded with him also, and all the move sets", which underlines the dramatic evolution of the memory capacity artists now have in order to make the characters.

Fig.2: Character Sculpting Process
What I found very interesting is that both God of War 3 and the Diablo 4 cinematic I previously talked about, were animated manually, because "it was found that the animators themselves produced more effective work than basic motion capture from the actors offered". The technique they used to create the realistic muscle movement is called "blended normal mapping", which back then was something new, and now it became a standard practice.
For my future projects, I intend to dive dipper into the normal blending technique to create facial expressions for my characters.
Tumblr media
Fig.3: Animation Simulations
Another interesting technique they created for the game is the dynamic simulation, used for animating parts of the characters such as hair, cloth or other organic parts such as gorgon's snakes, as Gary Cavanaugh states: "each of the snakes on the gorgon's head is independently moving. The animator did not have to individually pose all of these animations, but they do have control over the physics… it improves a lot of the workflow for animators".
Adding organic and simulated elements to the characters brings a lot of realism and makes the characters look more alive. So far, I stayed away from the complex simulations, and only with my major project I have started working with cloth simulation, which was a major step up for my characters.
In addition to the article, I have found a YouTube video by Game Lock, which shows behind the scenes of God of War 3 character art.
youtube
Fig.4: God of War 3 Character Art by Game Lock
In the video, they present their workflow from concept art, to 3D sculpting the models in ZBrush and the level of detail they were able to add in the game, once the technical hardware advanced. Moreover, their workflow shows pipeline elements such as using Photoshop to paint the textures over the UV maps. This technique is essential for understanding UV mapping and having clean topology, which my teachers also advised us to learn. Even though nowadays we use software like Substance Painter which can create procedural textures, knowing base techniques helps the 3D artist tremendously.
Following my research, I have also found an article which analyses the visual aspect of God of war Ragnarök, which is the latest game from the series, released in 2022.
Fig.5: God of War Ragnarök Visual Analysis Article by Rashid Sayed
In his article, Rashid Sayed says "God of War Ragnarök is an absolute beast when it comes to graphics", which is a statement considered by many other artists. In the section where he analyses the character models and animations, he mentions that the crucial thing that helped with the improvement of the quality of the models is the increased poly count of the base mesh. Seeing that nowadays the threshold of poly count for characters in games has increased dramatically from where it was when I first started sculpting, brings me comfort. Previously trying to achieve high-end realistic results, while having to keep the base model under 20 000 polygons, was really hard. As also mentioned in the previous article, rasing the bar of hair, cloth and physics simulations for the characters, was the key factor of their success in creating such high-end graphics for a game.
In addition to the articles, I have found a YouTube video by Gnomon, which showcases the process of rigging and animating the characters of God of War Ragnarök.
youtube
Fig.6: Rigging and Animating Process of God of War Ragnarök
I found it extremely useful to see their goals and mindset when creating the animations and the planning they did for the project. After watching this video, I understood many things about planning and managing the pipeline and what to keep in mind when working on the project. I implemented many of their goals in my own project, which helped me get my project closer to industry level.

my opinion about emulation
Emulation:
I could go many ways of my dislikes or likes but I will say a couple of things.
I feel that emulation would help archive old video games that have been forgotten or lost from documentation. How else are we supposed to know the history of video games if we don’t save them? Many old games from the cartridge era are dying from chip rott or chip failures. Some cartridges are just beyond repair or saving. And as for disc base from pc to playstation. Those are getting hit harder than cartridges due to the disc rot and scratching on the data on the disc. Once it's gone, it's gone for good. That is why I feel that emulations should be a thing to save these games before being lost.
What I don't like about emulation is the use of it. Over in China, you could buy loaded retro box or handhelds that have thousands of games from the eight bit to sixteen bit, even twenty four/sixty four bit games roms for over twenty to eighty dollars. Some come in the form of an arcade fight stick. And another thing i am seeing is software or hardware devices that you can mod your current console and play rip games. Nintendo went after a company that makes the switch emulation that you can run on your pc or steam deck. And the ps4 just got a linux based emulation and runs pretty well if you got a beefy pc to run it, only if it linux os then windows os. Those of the emulation I don't like but that is my opinion.
But I do see why people do it, and the reasons that come with it. I mean, I would love to have a red cab neo geo mvs arcade system but those are going for $900 to $3000 a pop from a one slot to four slot. I would rather emulate the cab on my pc than buying the cab. Also the mvs carts are getting so pricey. And there are some games on the snes I wish I could afford but can’t. I would love to have most of the jrpg games on snes like secret of mana, chrono trigger, and super mario rpg. But those games are running around $80 to $400. Same thing on ps2 the king of jrpg. I wanna get my hands on the .hack series and also tales of the abyss, star ocean, fantasy star universe, and tales of rebirth. Again, those games are getting so pricey and scary due to disc rot. And if I have to use an emulation to play them. So be it.
The world of retro game collection in 2024 is pretty bad now since everyone is getting into it. I got into it with my little brother back in 2009. I am lucky to have most of my childhood games but the games I was curious about that I mentioned before will be outta react unless I get lucky online from facebook market space or ebay. Emulation is my way to play games i haven’t had a chance to play when i was a kid. Even through it all sources of wrong or good. I feel that emulation will be the only way to preserve video game history and its contents that come with it. So I am 50/50 on the emulation. It is good for preservation and it is wrong for piracy from the current gaming consoles we have now. Again, that is my opinion about emulation.

i got a ps2 emulator w a ps4 controller working and now I will once again finally try to beat dq8. i got it physically since forever thx to it being gifted to us from one of dad's friends and me and him tried to beat it for years this got to reach back to kindergarten it is so overdue.
either everything will stay inside the faq links or this channel will be filled w stuff to keep track of. faqs for old games ily sm. also i can't believe jessica stayed such a fav for all those years I still love her dearly she's my fav in the team (angelo is also nice but nowhere near) you got my full permission to burn all those weirdos w your magic.
Tumblr media
I never rly got into anything else dq but might finally start bc I would lie if I wouldn't say seeing anything dq since I touched this one forever ago doesn't make me happy but i know v little abt this franchise. might w lps might play myself we'll see quite frankly prob the first I only "force" (I do enjoy it but. omg the length i am not used to that) myself through this one bc nostalgia and I restart and fail to complete since years. Hopefully this one will be it I'm sure using save states will help a lot (like saving right before bosses, cheating at casino to finally get that whip for my dear jessica (i spent so much time in baccarat as a kid) , prob other stuff) and main reason i go emulator and not just connect my pink ps2 to play. also yeah i could go 3ds remake w quality of life stuff plus story extras apparently but ps2 is what i got so ps2 is what will be done.
Anyways my sleep schedule is normal which is v bad and I need to fuck it up to night owl asap again so I will now drink coffee after trying to stay caffeine free for weeks/some months and play this game all night. most of my time until now reg this was spent staring at faqs
alright I checked the beat time and went huh not that far from how long I apparently played it ages ago and GIRL ARE YOU TELLING ME I WAS THIS CLOSE HUH???? OTL oh well at least now ik it's not /too/ hard bc I didn't use guides prior and now I do so. should def be beatable now.

A Few Games I 100% Completed but Haven't Mentioned Because I Did Them Long Ago
My recent blog posts have been about recent games I 100% completed but they're not the only games I've 100%ed.
Video games have been a big part of my life and I've been playing games since single digits. That's right, I've been a gamer my entire life. Starting with the Sega Genesis. That really ages me, doesn't it?
Admittedly, I only 100%ed one single game on Genesis and that was Disney's Pocahontas. There were a handful of games I had but couldn't invest too much time in because way back then I was a child attending school and homework.
Same story when I got an Nintendo 64. Exception was I didn't 100% any game on that console. However, I did manage to complete a few games on Nintendo's GameCube years later.
By that time I managed to get into double digits so back then I was still a child but was close to the 'edgy' phase everyone in the 2000s went through.
The games I definitely remember 100%ing were Star Fox Adventures, Wind Waker, Luigi's Mansion, Avatar the Last Airbender, Catwoman, Pikmin 1 and 2, and Geist. It may seem like a short list but that was long for preteen me. Especially considering majority of games I played were rented from Blockbuster. If you don't know what Blockbuster was, just know I'm from ancient times before the internet.
Anyhow, years later I had short lived experience with PS2 and somehow got XBox360 and PS3. Honestly, the 360 was a horrible console that destroyed itself more often that a sea cucumber. What games I managed to play on it were also available on PS3 at later time so I personally think 360 was a massive waste of money and would avoid if I was able to restart my life.
But it did give me some fun games to complete. Rare's final good game, Kameo Elements of Power, was particularly great. Fable 2 and 3 were simple and easy. I don't think it's physically possible to not complete a Fable game when it's played. And... ah, Crackdown was the only other one I 100%ed... That was... a game... yes it was...
Sadly, I do not remember 100%ing more games after that, yes even on the PS3 which I still held onto the games for.
I was incredibly busy with high school life at that time so investing an hour or so for a grind was not appealing in the slightest. Although, I do believe the majority of trophies (a new concept Sony/Microsoft came up with) being dependent on online multiplayer left a rather sour taste.
Then came a long period of not playing games as often due to having a job and college and another job to tend to. I did get a PS4 and still played what I could. Thankfully, the spark of dopamine still kicked in whenever I played so it was still something I looked forward to.
I also had a Steam account and played Team Fortress 2 a lot. Valve's most popular hat trading simulator was the only multiplayer game I ever played and enjoyed! Quite a few hundred hours went into that game. I would go back to play it if it wasn't for the forsaken bot infestation plaguing the servers.
Oh that reminds me of the first Steam game I 100%ed, Whispering Willows! It was a simple indie game I decided to play for Halloween season. Actually, it was the atmosphere and little secrets you could find that unlocked achievements that kept me going for the completion. After that, I hit up Tell Tale's Guardians of the Galaxy and 100%ed that easily. Tell Tale has the same issue the Fable franchise has.
However, I never had that sudden click of wanting to 100% all games until I played Insomniac's Spiderman on PS4. The game was spectacular with the placements for collectables and incorporating them into the game's setting. Looking at the trophies on my Playstation Profile, I had a sudden thought of finishing as much of my game library as I could so I can have as many platinum trophies as I can.
Before my PS3 fried and deleted my files on the drive, I managed to get the platinum for all Sly Cooper and Infamous games. I also platinum Second Son on PS4. I may have to restart those games if I can't save my old PS3. Don't know what I'm going to do if I can't save it. Maybe be forced to buy a refurbished one or be doomed to PSN Premium 'service' ugh, hopefully won't come to that.
Remaining platinum trophies I earned on PS4 were from MediEvil, Spyro Reignighted trilogy (with the exception of Spyro 2), and Subnautica. That list is as long as my 360 one but I'm still working on it.
I'm also working on 100%ing Nintendo and Steam games. While there's no official reward for 100%ing Nintendo games, I'm still completing them because they're fun. Sometimes you don't need a trophy or ribbon to say you 100% completed a game... it would be nice but it's not needed.
The games I completed on Nintendo Switch were Luigi's Mansion 3, Island Savers (a free kid's game that looked simple and fun to me), and Fenyx Rising... Yeah, Fenyx is available on other consoles but it feels at home on Switch.
Meanwhile on Steam I worked on and completed Helltaker, Force Unleashed, Overlord Raising Hell and Overlord 2, and Alice Madness Returns... while there's no achievements or blue ribbon for those EA games, I still wanted to complete them and never touch another EA game for as long as I can.
So, including the recent blog posts I made about recent games I've completed, I have a sum total of 21 modern titles. For PS3/360 games I managed 10 completed games. GameCube had 8 and the only other completed game was on Sega Genesis. Giving me a total of 40 complete games throughout my life. I plan on making that number higher. But I don't know if I'll stick with making blog posts about them. Sure it's easy but it doesn't feel as enjoyable or fun as gaming is. I don't know... I'll probably be stuck on here until I figure something out.

8. The City: A great fanfic about how Scott Thomas Penn went to Fun City for a trip. It's extremely well-written and very funny.
7. Draculant's Adventures: Draculant was created in the Fun City Fanfic, so this story was actually written after the creation of the game. I really liked it.
6. The Adventures of Pet Mouse: A really good, and also hilarious, story about Pet Mouse going on an adventure. The fact that Scott Thomas Penn was the one who made this story was a real surprise.
5. FUNCYCLONE: An epic story about FUNCYCLONE going on an adventure through Fun City to get some pizza. It was also the first story to actually get me to cry, so if you want to read something emotional, check it out.
4. Fun City: A fanfic by Scott Thomas Penn about how a mysterious being named "The Wheel" is going to destroy all the inhabitants of Fun City. There were so many twists and turns I almost dropped my controller.
3. FUNCYCLONE: Nove Lai: A great story about the two characters in Fun City. I really enjoyed it, and it's also pretty good for the ending, just like the ending of Fun City: A Mystery.
2. The Mysterious Figure and the City: A very good story about the character known as "The Mysterious Figure", this was written by Scott Thomas Penn. It's the perfect mix between a comedy and a horror, and I also cried at the end.
1. Fun City: The First Game: Written by Scott Thomas Penn, this is an interesting story about how Draculant is going to be made a game, and it's so good. The characters and writing are amazing.

FUNNER DIES
 "Funner is dead."
KIRYU DIES
"Kiryu is no longer with us."
FUNCY CLIMBS THE LADDER AND STILL SURVIVES.
"I have fun climbing up the ladder. That is the last thing that Funcy is going to do before he dies."
FUNCY DIED.
 "Funcy is gone."
FUNCY CLIMBED THE LADDER.
"Funcy has had a fun life."
FUNCAN DIED
"Funcan has passed away. FUNCY, Kiryu, FUNNER, and Funky are no longer a family."
FUNKY DIED.

FUNCAN SURVIVES.

The door to the laboratory opens and Clio walks out of the room with his suitcase.
"Maybe it's time to move on?" Clio says.
"Yeah." I say and I close the story and go to bed.
"We have fun here." Dominic says.
"That is why we must move on." Ryu says.
"I want to live in a different fun city." Dominic says.
Everyone's wishes come true, but I don't have to think about them anymore. I will never ever have to think about them ever again.
It's my favorite fun city story. Because it has an ending. And this is is. Good night fun city. Good night Ryu. Good night Dominic. Good night Draculant. Good night Mr slime. Good night Mr tumnus. Good night the mysterious figure. Good night the giant. Good night the wheel. Good night pet mouse. Good night mr tumnus. Good night the concierge. Good night the bartender. Good night the giant. Good night the wheel. Good night pet mouse. Good night the mysterious figure. Good night mr tumnus. Good night the concierge. Good night the bartender. Good night the giant. Good night the wheel. Good night the mysterious figure. Good night the concierge.
THE END (FOR ME)
I turn off the computer and go to bed. I have had enough fun to last a lifetime.

Hello Twitter refugees!
Or new followers on Tumblr! I don't know if I can make a pinned comment/bio on Tumblr, but here's a post of some of the things I am into if you want to follow!
Video game collecting since 2012 - these days I mostly play PC, PS4, Switch, PS2, Wii, and 3DS, but I also have Super Nintendo, Genesis, Wii U, GameCube, Turbografx-16 and CD, PS3, PS1. I also own two computers from the 90's!
I've been a Furry for a few years and I'll reblog Furry art from time to time. I'm also into Furry movies!
Godzilla is awesome and I need to get back in the habit of going through the whole series. I have almost all of the films on DVD or Blu-ray.
I love animation! I love DreamWorks, Don Bluth, Studio Ghibli, most stuff distributed by GKIDS. Traditional animation never died, it just went international!
'Former' emo - I guess you can never really take the emo out of a person lol. I'll mention Black Veil Brides and Tokio Hotel from time to time, and I am trying to listen to more 'shoegaze' and Drab Majesty/Hawaiian Gremlins type stuff.
... Hello Clue Crew ppl Nancy Drew PC games kind of got me through the pandemic lol
Currently playing a lot of Planet Zoo! I should share more of my zoos/builds. Still play Zoo Tycoon original too!
At this time I don't think I'll share my old Tumblrs, but I used to run tumblrs for old video games, Sonic, Korrasami, and some of my other interests I listed, so Tumblr is not new to me but it's been awhile.
