Okay, I have these stupid long essays in my head comparing the S2 dads with the S1 dads

Full of specific evidence and explanations and all that... What I *don’t* have is the time to write those up without destroying myself. 

So instead, what I have for you here are some point-form notes full of my hot takes, predictions and senseless switching between second and third tense!

Will these make sense to anyone? Fuck I hope so, but honestly who can say. Nevertheless, I need to get these thoughts out of my head so that I can move on to other stuff. Bulk of the post below the cut, cause it’s long, but here’s a little peek at the structure/mappings:

Got that? Okay then, let’s get into it!

Sparrow and Glenn

It’s obvious that you love your son to death, but he wants so badly to hear that you’re proud of him and you are so, so bad at offering that

Probably the most controversial/polarizing/scrutinized dads of their seasons?

The pen is mightier than the sword but if that doesn’t work, yeah, they will kill you

Actually the friendliest with the kids that aren’t their own/the most willing to take them seriously (no really!!!)

I think this is likely gonna be viewed as a hot take for Sparrow but… These two trust their kids and believe in their ability to make their own decisions the most!

This is partially reflected in their lax parenting styles. And yet…

Quite willing/able to step in and be protective/draw a line when required

Greatest tendency to think of things with respect to the long-term (and “play the long game” more generally), also reflected in their parenting.

Somehow resilient to the point that it’s a flaw

Their kids? Well on the surface they couldn’t be bothered to care about having a new parental figure in their lives but… Is that even remotely true?

It’s not a question of being a perfect dad or getting it right on the first try, it’s a question of whether or not you’re willing to put in the effort and show that you actually give a shit beyond the bare minimum.

If Nicky really is Ron: He’ll step up!!! He’ll figure it out and find his way into his son’s life one way or another and… Probably be the best off by the end of the season tbh.

Finally listened to the new dndads episode (might do some art for it later) here are my thoughts:

-you guys were right about those close family feels i am indeed sad now,

-did not expect Terry to be the one to shot Nick's arm off (thought it would be Grant) also i get the ship now, i do

-kinda glad that stampler thing was brief cause i think we tackled Scarys and Robs and Tjs relashonship before and it was nice for them to just be soft

-the Wilson boys need to learn how to use the bathroom like normal people (its wilsons with their piss and the oaks with their stink and retainers i swear)

-Taylor had feelings?

-I love Glenn i really do, and i understand getting better isn't linear but god did he fuck up, i dont have personal experience with absent parents but god did it hurt

i am so sorry, it is 2:30 am (EDIT: kept getting distracted so its now 3:30 am-) so i am not gonna do a sketch for this HFJKGHKFDHK (for now! i might come back later and reward you with one <3)

but you know me. you've seen my frantic rambling <3 you know i would LOVE to talk about carol's sexuality journey in my au! i very much respect matt's decision to not commit to darryl having internalized homophobia/being closeted, especially considering that it started as a joke, etc. but. but! i am a lesbian and i simply cannot see either of the wilson parents as straight and so yeah, carol's B plot is realizing she is a lesbian

A LOT OF THIS IS GONNA BE FAMILIAR TO YOU ISADORA but i havent talked about it before on tumblr i dont think besides vague implications, so! lets dive in!

of the moms, carol has the most like. baggage, i guess? not necessarily tragic backstory-wise - morgan wins that by a landslide - but she has a lot of small individual things that she has to work through, as opposed to the other moms mostly having to work through one big thing each. carol has issues with emotional vulnerability. carol has issues with internalized misogyny. carol has issues with infidelity. carol has issues with repressed homosexuality. carol has issues with the way she was raised. shes got a lot going on! luckily, all of them are extreeemely tied up in each other, which i think helps to make it so she doesnt have too much compared to the other moms? but it makes it a bit harder to pick out just one thing to talk about LMAO

before the start of the story, carol is already struggling with the fact that she feels like shes unfaithful to darryl because she is attracted, very very badly, to her secretary at work. she also is struggling with the fact that said secretary is a young woman. she never cheats on darryl (well. not in. the main au and definitely never before the forgotten realms-) but she still has severe catholic guilt about being attracted to other people at all. this guilt is pushed muuuch much hard once shes around mercedes and samantha all the time, because she is. painfully. attracted to them. mercedes especially, because mercedes very much encourages carol's attraction to her while sammy is more normal about it. samantha is convinced that carol could fix her marriage, while mercedes is going "dump him! join my polycule!" LMAO

this plotline is, mostly, tied up in carol's emotional vulnerability plotline, as thats her main plot! she has the same arc that darryl does, since theyre veeery similar characters (carol is more ruthless/less emotional internally than he is, but thats just about the only difference i cut between them). so, carol's arc with grant follows the same course as darryl's, except the yeet bigly thing goes. a little bit better! lol. grant is still rejected by yeet, and returns to the locker room very upset about it, etc etc. when carol gets around to talking to him, in contrast to darryl's conversation with grant about frank's death, carol instead talks to grant about the difficulties of being gay and how it can be really hard to be true to yourself.

SHOUT OUT TO @aximili FOR THIS BTW he talked to me about carol for a bit and it put some wind in my sails for the direction that this conversation goes LMAO

I AM a believer in grant coming out before the forgotten realms. however, i waver back and forth a lot on if thats true for this au specifically, because i do like the parallel plot of carol realizing that her son is gay at the same time that she is coming around to her own self-realization. regardless, either way, carol starts the conversation very much focusing on grant, focusing only on his feelings, etc. shes very stiff about it and, eventually, apologizes to grant and tells him that she really hopes that her actions dont make him feel like he has to repress his own homosexuality. grant is a smart little guy, and also sees the way that carol talks to her friends hbghjgbdhjfb and pretty much picks up right away that oh. oh. this is about my mother just as it is about me. he awkwardly prods her about it and for the first time in his life, grant sees his mom cry. he cries too, and they hug, and its emotional, but its good. its healing!

carol gets divorced from darryl post-s1. carol, mercedes and samantha form a silly little polycule. grant, terry jr, and lark all have to either make new friends or compete for nicholas's love because theyre suddenly all sort-of-brothers. nicholas has a crush on their lesbian sister instead and that completely kills their codependent little dating pool. all is good in the world <3 ("the twins literally caused the apocalypse-" all is good in the world <3)

book review for into the drowning deep by mira grant!!! spoilers under the cut! just found out the author has a tumblr well if u find this pretty please dont look theres nothing bad in here its just not for you! reviews are for readers and you can get constructive criticism from a paid editor and not random readers doing this for free :)

ok i. literally just finished this and am writing it as i am staring at the finished checkmark on my computer lol wanted to get this out so i didnt forget. anyways ok so i super liked this book. love feels like a strong word bc i think im on too much adhd meds to really feel it like that but yeah i really really liked it.

OBViously the best part about this book were the mermaids. i came into it wanting mermaids and creepy shit in the ocean and science and thats what i got. they were creepy wnd fucked up and vicious and murderous amd beautiful and i loved them so much. especially that we got their pov! and how sometimes from their pov we would get little hints of answers about them before the scientists did. i liked that. loved the ocean imagery especially from dr toth was it heavy handed? maybe. idc i love the ocean.

this was also again. creepy as fuck not downright terrifying which surprised me bc im a huge wimp. but i was on the edge of my seat and anxious and nervous for a lot of the characters... which leads me to my next point i guess i dont really feel like i connected per say with all of the characters as much as others. like i feel connected for sure to olivia, especially when its her pov, the probable undiagnosed autism diagnosis goes crazy. and i really liked the wilsons, luis was nice, i liked dr toth. everyone else i didnt really care. which is fine i read this for cool mermaids !!

another thing i would kill for more of was the linguistics with hallie and lennox and the mermaid like i fucking LOVE that shit, and also what happened to said mermaid other than just a small bit at the end about it being bought by some rich guy. also would like to see more of the matriarch mermaid. i love the absolute ancient and archaic nature of creatures that are just fuckin so big, especially when it relates to the ocean. and also maybe i missed where her size was actually describe and im generally really bad at conceptualizing how big things are when just given like. measurements but i was picturing this thing as more colossal than anything else, which would tie into luis' research, right?? pretty sure that was his whole schtick and i wanted more of that... i do appreciate the mystery however. this book left me with questions, and not in a like this was filled with plot holes kinda way but more of a i need to know more this is probably how all those scientists felt kinda way. i like that i think. absolutely love how in these reviews im just spitballing ideas and seeing what sticks who knows tomorrow i probs wont agree with half the shit im saying but who cares. im working out my thought irl and this is what happens. on another note we had anchovies out for dinner and im not normally squeamish about them but. looking at them when reading this book did make me feel a bit weird so theres that. 4/5 stars had fun would recommend

in the masses' defense!! i understand where a lot of grant takes come from. hes been a bad father, he has a lot of improvements he has to make, and i think its really cool that matt is doing a plot line rn where linc is cutting his dad off. thats awesome! like, genuinely, i love it. it hurts my feelings a lot as a Wilson Enjoyer(tm) but i think it makes so much sense story-wise and im really enjoying seeing where the plot is going with it!

however i just think its really fucking weird of some fans to imply that mentally ill people arent allowed to have kids or try to love other people when they dont love themselves! maybe im just projecting though </3 i like to think that most people are just wording their takes poorly, or that theyre being dramatic, and i can recognize that i can be really overly sensitive about characters with intrusive thoughts/low emotions. i project onto them too much! i get it! but like, i dunno

i relate a lot to grant and while i dont want kids, i do crave connection with people despite my more... asocial aspects lol. i only recently have gotten to a point where i let myself have community instead of isolating myself for my constant intrusive thoughts, low emotions, lack of empathy, etc. so it just kind of sucks to have this turn in the story that have people acting as if grant is the worst for thinking that maybe he could love a son and have a family. definitely similar vibes to sparrow where people are like "he only had a kid for daddy magic!", which is a take i dislike for ALL of the kiddads but that i can start to understand-- but then also just genuinely, there are people seeming to say "you shouldnt have kids if youre mentally ill" which... no? no. like. i recognize the idea that you shouldnt have kids if you cant even take care of youself, but all evidence points to that grant was capable of having a kid when linc was adopted. linc was socialized well as a young kid, he had friends his age, he visited his grandparents, etc. it was only later that grant's mental health took a downturn again and i think thats fair when everything going on with the doodler/code purple was going on. by no means is grant a good dad. but i think its really harsh and verging on ableism to imply that his mental health makes him incapable of being a dad at any point in his life.

but i dunno!! thats just my thoughts!! lol <3

sparrow is always going to be taking the brunt of weird takes though, i think o7 she truly is taking on the worst of the worst. godspeed to my beautiful weirdgirl

DNDADS S2E32 Thoughts (spoilers)

I love the dynamics of the teens back together working towards a (mostly) common goal. They share one brain cell and they are never using it and I love that for them.

Normal jumping out the fucking window was a perfect reaction as was all of Will’s rping this episode. He played this the exact way that these loser kids function: Hermie has wronged me in the hottest way possible (a show of school spirit) and now he MUST be mine. Love it. No notes. Thank you Will for keeping oakworthy nation fed.

I just love Taylor so much and I’m glad that Freddie is giving him some genuine connection to Nick even if it is goofy sometimes. I also just love the way that Taylor has gotten defensive of himself and his friends and while Scary has rejoined the group he’s still apprehensive and ready to protect his boys. It feeds the Swiftli part of my brain that wants Taylor to get defensive over Link.

Speaking of Link...this boy is 100% Grant Wilson’s child (derogatory but with love). The way that his scam involved Hermie’s adoptive family believing that they were losing custody of their son just. Damn Link I think know you have your own issues to work through. AND HE WAS SO ADAMANT ABOUT IT TOO. It was funny but also I was worried that they would actually go through with it. Glad he didn’t and also got to use the human gun again.

Scary is so babygirl. Love her. She commits heinous crimes and we forgive her because we were all a teen girl at some point, weren’t we? Glad she got to settle back in with her friends a bit this episode, especially with the way Willy has been treating her. When she mentioned that Willy would think she was stupid it was so upsetting. She internalizes so much of what he says even when she’s not on his side, I need this girl to go talk to her parents and have a good cry about it. Annnnnnd the soon-to-be birthday boy to round out our list!!! I love Henry Oak SO much, okay. He's like a father and also a brother and also a son to me, despite how little sense that makes. He can be a little self-righteous and he can be a little sillay and I truly do love both of those things for him. Also his unconscious desire to create an environment so unlike his own restrictive upbringing that overrode his amnesia and caused a complete 180 in his own parenting style vs. that of his parents,,, not sure I worded that right but it's something I think about a lot and get very emo over. Additionally, he just has such a tendency to put all the blame on himself - a trait Lark seems to have inherited perhaps without even fully recognizing it, oddly enough - and that just makes me so, so, so deeply sad. As the newest Avenger it seemed that Tony Stark and Captain Rogers were more than comfortable sending you out on all of the shit missions, granted, you could use the time in with your new teammates to learn their little quirks and start working to meld your abilities with theirs so that you could start working together seamlessly, but it was getting ridiculous. You were half expecting to start getting told to go out and help the NYFD rescue kittens from trees and helping the NYPD direct traffic on Broadway in Manhattan during rush hour. Y/N was a technopath, which was a fancy name for someone who could control technology and anything mechanical with their mind, or if you wanted to be technical about it, according to the official S.H.I.E.L.D. dossier:

Pretty cool, huh? Anyway, spring was coming to a close and summer was just around the corner. Tony asked me and Sam Wilson, you may know him as Falcon, to head to midtown

Manhattan because there were some “unsavory” characters hanging around Grand Central Station.

Turns out it was some low-level HYDRA minions that were basically trying to see what kind of trouble they could cause, they had planted a pipe bomb in a waste bin in the middle of the station and it was a Friday when thousands of people would be traveling through the station heading to and from work and school. I think that HYDRA was more or less just testing us Avengers out to what abilities we had and see if there are any hidden capabilities we possessed before they come at us for a full-scale attack.

Sam and I arrived and were able to find the pipe bomb relatively quickly, part of my ability is being able to read the signatures of different technologies and mechanics, and if you don’t think that a bomb countdown timer throws out a red flag, you are mistaken. Anyway, we found it, and rather than call bomb and arson with New York’s Finest, I was able to manipulate the mechanics myself using my mind. I shut down the detonator without ever touching the bomb and made the whole thing inactive within a few minutes time.

Easy peasy, 10 minutes, another fast sweep which took an additional 30 minutes, and Sam and I were finished and ready for our close-ups from the media that always, inevitably followed. We had a small group of media that always showed up whenever a call went out that an Avenger was “working” and there was almost always a small fan base at Grand Central or where ever we were working who would come up to thank us, like we were some sort of rock stars, and as per usual some of the younger men and women took the opportunity to do some flirting with us. Tony told us, unattached Avengers, that any publicity and light flirting and playfulness with the fans was good publicity and would help for the public to relate to us and see us in a positive light. I am not going to lie, I may or may not have had a little thing for our resident speedy Sokovian, but our little flirting in the compound never seemed to go beyond that, flirting. I thought there was a possibility he liked me also, but, so far, nothing. Although I did catch him staring at me quite often and Wanda and some of the guys were always talking to him and then immediately looking in her direction like they were just discussing her. Pietro did seem to always try to be around me and sit near me as often as possible as well. Also when the “fans” would flirt with him, I noticed he never really showed much interest in them, always watching to see what I was doing.

Oh well, time to spend a little time with the crowd before Sam and I headed back to the compound. The New York Times was talking to some travelers about the pipe bomb that was found in the wastebasket and what their thoughts were and how they felt about us being there to “save the day, yet again” when an overzealous “fan” started to get a little handsy with me in the background. He had followed me around and asked me to dinner a few times, flashing cash and his business card a few times, trying to press it into my hand multiple times. I explained I was really bust and thanked him but said I was not interested or available, but he kept perusing me. He was leaning over my shoulder with his hand around my waist from behind, body pulled directly flush with my back and he was in an excited state if you know what I mean, and he was whispering in my ear about some of his fantasies and things that he has dreamt of doing to me. Of course, the camera flashed right as he started to kiss my neck and I had a smile on my face because I was focusing on a sweet 10 year old in front of me asking for my autograph and telling me I was her favorite avenger. If the camera had waited all of 5 seconds more, they would have caught me performing a minor assault on the prick and another 5 seconds would have caught Sam pulling me off of him and flying us out of the station and back to the compound with his hand over my mouth because I let lose a string of explicative’s that would put Wade Wilson to shame.

The next morning I woke up and took a shower, went down to the kitchen and made my normal toast and juice and bowl of fruit, and could not help notice that the Avengers that were there were looking at me strangely, I thought it was because I was still in a sour mood because of that jerk from yesterday and the icky feeling he gave me that I was assaulted by scum. I knew that Rogers, Wanda, Sam, and Nat were on their way to Lagos on a mission. Thor and Banner were MIA since Sokovia, which left Stark, Rhodey, Vision, Pietro and I still here.

“Y/N, so, how was the pipe bomb incident yesterday?” Tony asked seemingly hinting at something

“Uneventful aside from a slight annoyance in the crowd, is there coffee left?” Y/N responded looking at him while rising to get a mug and pour a hot mug to clear the remaining sleep from my head.

“Nothing happened? Nobody special you want to tell us about?” Rhodey chimes in.

“Not that I am aware of or worth mentioning now that it’s done and over with, is there something you would like to tell me about?” Y/N asks looking back and forth to them. “Hey, where’s Speedy, he’s usually down here eating everything that isn’t trying to eat him first.”

Tony looks at Y/N and smirks, “It is strange that you should mention that, he came in about 20 minutes ago, I assume you were in the shower or I am sure you would have heard him, saw the cover of the New York Times, flipped out and, well, here you are, please take a look, we are on pins and needles to know what you think. And I hope you know that all suitors must meet the full team before you becoming an “item” and pass Avenger inspection, and Rogers is particularly tough.” He slid the paper across the kitchen island to where you sat, both he and Rhodey watching your face for a reaction. You unfolded the paper confused and looked at the front cover.

There in black and white at you was a close up of the stranger with his arms around your waist from behind, you leaning slightly forward smiling and the stranger kissing your neck, the little girl you were smiling at was covered by the person being interviewed in the foreground. To someone who was not there and did not know the story, this definitely looked bad, like a very intimate moment caught on film, the headline read ‘Newest Avenger Moving Fast With New York Wall Street Trader’ the article went on to talk about how you just met the guy and did not bother to get his name, but just let him put the moves on you, yadda, yadda, yadda. Apparently, after Sam got you out of there, the “gentleman: in question decided to make a name for himself and gave a short interview making it sound like you approached him and started the whole flirt fest, lead him on, and then abandoned him, with the promise to return. You looked at Tony and Rhodey with wide eyes and a sick feeling in your stomach, “This is the biggest load of shit I have ever read in my life, this is not anything at all what happened. About 3 seconds after this picture was snapped, I basically slapped the taste out of his mouth and would have continued to do so had Sam not gotten me out of there. Flirting? More like this guy assaulted me. This was not consensual or wanted. I told him multiple times I was not interested and refused his advances and invitations to dinner and he kept bothering me. I was talking to a little kid and he pulled this crap when I had my back turned to him.”

Tony went from joking to serious almost instantly, “Okay, we were just going to bust your balls on this a little bit, but this has just become a non-joke. I’ll have Pepper contact someone in Stark Industries legal department to get in touch with the paper to track this guy down, he’ll have had to sign a waiver for publication and we’re going to go after him for liable and harassment. If he tries to come after you for battery for the assault, well, we’ll call that defense, Avenger or not, no one gets to touch you without permission. Y/n we really didn’t know, we were just going to play around with you about this a little, and we had no idea. He didn’t do any weird stuff, right?”

“NO, I mean, I slapped him and Sam pulled me off of him and flew me out of there, anything beyond what he did to me and you would have been getting a call from New York’s finest about bail or my court hearing for homicide. I was shocked, but if it had gone beyond what it was, I would have raged a lot harder than I did. The headline in the paper would have read a lot differently today.” Y/N responded.

“Alright, I know that yesterday was weird and I know that Nat and Wanda have had to deal with crap like this from time to time, unfortunately being an attractive woman on the team seems to let the guys out there think that it is open season to treat you ladies like meat. It is unfair and it sucks and if any of the men on the team are around just say the word and well step in and make sure the guys know it’s not okay, or step back and let you take care of it yourself, whatever you feel more comfortable with. In the meantime, take the weekend off and go to a spa or go shopping or to the movies or whatever you need to do to feel better, charge everything to Stark okay. Just let us know if you need anything alright.” Tony hugged you with one arm and kissed the top of your head. “One thing though, Lightning Legs. He flipped out when he saw this. He thought it was true and got hot and bothered. I would suggest finding him and letting him know what is really going on because the last thing you need right now is a crazy Sokovian kid acting like a jealous boyfriend right now.”

You look us at Tony and across the island to Rhodey, “What is that all about, what is he flipping out about, he brags about all the women he is into and dated back in Sokovia all the time, what does he care about what happens to me?”

“Y/N are you serious? That kid has been crazy in love with you since Sokovia. I swear I was coming close to sending you both on a mission that involved a tropical island and a case of rum soon. If he’s not staring at you, you are staring at him. It’s sickening.” Tony finished with a sarcastic eye roll. Go relax in your room, we'll take care of this. Just try to put it from your mind and well talk soon. With that, you left and headed to the elevator bank to the sleeping quarters level, feeling shitty, but better because you knew Tony would do what he could to help.

You were only in your Bedroom Suite for about half an hour when there was a somewhat frantic knocking at your door. You got up from your bed, put down the book you were currently reading, and made your way to the door, opening it, you found a seemingly tormented Pietro, he entered your quarters without an invitation and started to pace the length of your room, looking at you, Y/N could tell he needed to speak, but he was not sure where or how to start.

“Y/N, I ……. The newspaper, I saw the picture and…… Who is he? Do you like him? I mean does he make you happy? I want you to be happy……… I know that no one will ever be able to………. Not like I do………” Pietro kept starting and stopping sentences, never actually completing any, and getting agitated. You had never seen him this disconcerted before, he was always so unruffled when he would flirt with you before and this was a whole new side to him that you had never seen before. It was like he was unsure of himself and it was not something he was sure of how to process. You walked towards where Pietro was walking seemingly carrying on an argument with himself and reached out for his hands.

“Pietro, please stop, okay, please. It is not what you think, I don’t know that guy. It was fake, it was false, I don’t know him, I did not ask for that, I did not tell him it was okay to touch me or kiss me like that, I was not alright with that, He did that without my permission, and the photographer took a picture and they wrote some fake story to make it seem like I was into it. I did not want that. I don’t know him, I feel disgusted by that.” You start to rub your neck where the creep kissed you, sat down on the plush cushioned ottoman bench at the foot of your bed and start to curl into yourself to make yourself as small as possible as Pietro looks at you taking in your words.

“Wait, moja bohyňa (my goddess,) some guy you do not know came up to you and started to touch you and kiss you without your permission? No, I will not allow this, who is this man; I will go fight him right now. Žiadny odpadok sa nemôže dotknúť mojej bohyne bez jej súhlasu. Are you okay?” He sat on the bench next to you giving you plenty of space, not wanting to crowd you. “I will kill this man, why would he think he could touch you, Bohyňa (Goddess,) if I had been there, I would have stopped him immediately, I am so sorry I was not there with you. “ Pietro sat staring forward with a look of disappointment in himself. You leaned over towards him putting your head on his shoulder and he wrapped his arm around you pulling you into him. You snuggled your face into his chest drawing designs on his stomach and chest with your finger as he kissed your head and held you close.

“Tony is going to get the Legal department of Stark Industries to look into the paper and find out who the guy is and get him charged with harassment, and I may or may not have given him a good slap as soon as I got over my shock and realized what was happening, so I figure I should let the cops know everything in case he decided to try to press charges later for battery saying I attacked him. But I promise Pietro, there is absolutely nothing at all going on with that guy or any other guy in my life because I was sort of waiting for someone I had a sort of thing for to maybe make a move, but I didn’t think that he was interested, so I had basically given up hope and just accepted that we would only be friends, and that was okay, but I really was hoping he would let me know he felt the same.” You continued tracing symbols on Pietro's chest with her fingers nervously

Pietro put his hand gently under Y/Ns chin and raised her face so that his clear blue eyes were looking directly into Y/N/E/C, “Do I know this guy?” He asked finally deciding to go with the advice the rest of the team when they told him that Y/N was definitely into him, and Wanda assured him that yes, Y/N thought about him often and was only too nervous to make the first move, but if Pietro would, she would be receptive.

Y/N looks from Pietro's eyes to his lips and back to his eyes again and states “I am sure you have seen him around here, sometimes he’s hard to spot because he’s pretty fast, but when he stops or slows down and doesn’t try so hard to impress everyone he’s really an amazing guy. I have to say to, he is sexy as hell too, and he has this accent when he talks, uggghhh, it does things to me.” Y/N just smiles at him teasingly.

Pietro chuckles and smiling leans in but says softly before he kisses you, “Prednesiem vám básne a texty, ak ma chcete počuť hovoriť, poviem vám všetky veci, ktoré chcem s vami a s vami urobiť, ale nikdy vám nebudem môcť vyjadriť, ako veľmi vás milujem a uctievam. You are mine now as I am your, forever.)” He then lays the softest and most soul-baring kiss on Y/N that she has ever felt. It was as if all the passions in the world could have been transferred to her through that kiss and as he softly caresses her face while peppering gentle kisses on her face, Y/N thinks that maybe this stupid picture is not the worst thing in the world to ever happen to her if it is what FINALLY brought her and Pietro together, she figures if nothing else, this will be a brilliant story to tell their kids someday.

Chapter 29: The Fear

I was getting restless.

I had sat through my fair share of council meetings before being asked to join Thor for one of the weekly sessions where the public petitioned him for things.  That could be anything from asking for a road to be fixed or an extension on a home to mediation regarding property ownership disputes or sending out guards to investigate people’s concerns.

I still felt woefully underqualified for even offering my opinions on the running of the country, but where the council meetings when I said something I felt confident that the council would take into account I was still learning when I sat in front of people who saw me as some divine wisdom, I worried about fucking it up.

Not to mention the job involved sitting on a hard metal chair for the whole day dressed in formal Asgardian wear.  It was incredibly uncomfortable.

I was very glad I had opted for no marks when I had been with Natasha and Steve.

The babies were brought into me to feed about two hours into the first session of petitioners and I had to work out how to breastfeed in the uncomfortable metal chair while wearing a formal Asgardian dress, without flashing the people who had come to speak with us.  It wasn’t easy, and I ended up just feeding one at a time, something I only did if both weren’t hungry at the same time under normal circumstances.

So as I had Thour tucked into a sling made of gold fabric as she fed, Thor cradled a whiny Nova and let the infant chew on his knuckle.

“Your majesty.”  The Asgardian man who kneeled in front of us looked older than Thor, though I still had no idea how to judge the ages of Asgardians.  If he’d been human I would have said around fifty.  He was sun-weathered and had the hands of a man who used them regularly.  Yet despite that, he was dressed in fine, yet simple clothing in sea and pea green, and earth brown.

“Rise, citizen,” Thor said.  “I apologize for my son.  He’s a little hungry.”

The man stood and shook his head.  “It is an honor to get to see them.  I know they aren’t brought out in public very often yet.  My wife is not going to believe I was lucky enough to have them at our meeting.”

“I am happy that we can send you home with at least some good news,” Thor said.  “Let us see if there is any more I can grant.  What has brought you to me today?”

“The farmers outside the western city walls have all been reporting missing things.  From small items like clothing and food to livestock,” the man explained.  “I myself have lost a few animals and there was a large argument I had with my wife about who ate the last of the cake she baked.  To begin with, we all just thought it was one of those things.  Animals can go missing from time to time.  Clothes get lost in the wash.  A family member will eat the last of something without telling anyone.  But as the stories were passed around it became clear that this was happening a little too regularly to be normal.”

“Do you believe it is a thief or a beast?” Thor asked.

“Hard to say, your majesty,” the man said.  “I would say, thief or thieves.  But this is only part of the problem.  Dread has been building.  It started with nightmares, always of our biggest fears, but not happening regularly enough to warrant concern.  Now my wife and I are waking several times a night with them and we are not the only ones.  Everyone is complaining about lack of sleep due to these night terrors.  It’s beginning to seep into the day.  I go outside and feel such fear, it’s hard to work.  My animals seem to be affected by it too.  They are losing weight, abandoning their young, and bellowing constantly.  There is something dark out there and it is tormenting us.”

“Do you feel that fear here?” Thor asked.

The man shook his head.  “No, my lord.  It ended when I passed through the city gates.  Almost like a weight was lifted off me.  I believe we all let it get so bad because whatever this is has made us too scared to ask for help.”

Thor looked to the guard near him.  “Summon my daughters, Riley and Rebecca.”

“If there is magic involved it might be a good idea to have Wanda or Billy go too,” I suggested, speaking quietly.

Thor nodded.  “And my son William.”

“Yes, your majesty,” the guard said and strode off.

“I shall send my children to investigate, they will require you to show them where all this is taking place,” Thor said, addressing the man again.

“Of course, your majesty,” he said.  “I am honored that you would send your children.”

“How many farms are affected?”  Thor asked.

“So far there are ten of us,” the man replied.  “I do not know if it is spreading or whatever it is moving around.  Perhaps it is both, but it only started with three of us.”

Thor frowned.  “These are ill omens.  Perhaps you and the others should be moved to the city until this trouble passes.”

“But the livestock, my lord,” the man said.  “It cannot be left to fend for itself.”

“Indeed,” Thor pondered.  “My life, do you have any ideas?”

“Are there farms on the other side of the city away from whatever is happening that the animals can be moved to until we get to the bottom of this?” I asked.

Thor nodded.  “I shall send someone to request assistance,” he decided.  “Until then I  shall post guards at your farms and have them regularly rotate in the hopes that what is affecting you doesn’t have a chance to affect them too.  I would also suggest that anyone who is not essential to the day-to-day running of the farm leave.  I will house anyone who needs it here at the palace.”

“That is too kind, your majesty,” the man said.  “I shall tell the others of your offer.”

“Thor, I need to trade kids with you,” I whispered.

“Of course,” Thor said, getting up.  It took a little juggling but we managed to swap over Thour and Nova.  As we were switching them Riley, Rebecca, and Billy came into the throne room.”

“Father,” Riley said.  It was funny hearing her call him that.  Sometimes the kids would call us mother or father in an overly serious tone as a joke, but when they did it seriously it always made me want to laugh.  Riley held her hand over her breastplate and had bowed her head as she spoke with such reverence it nearly made me crack.  Rebecca and Billy looked at her like she’d lost her mind but then quickly mimicked her stance.

“I need you three to go and investigate the farms to the west of the city,” Thor said.  “There is something sinister happening and we need to get to the bottom of it.”

“You want me to go?” Billy asked.

“There may be magic involved.  The people who live out there are being plagued by nightmares,” Thor said.  “Perhaps you can use your abilities to glean something from the site.”

Billy nodded. “I’ll try.  I’m still learning.”

“That’s all I ask,” Thor said.  “And if you do not wish to do this kind of work…”

“No,” Billy said.  “I do.  I’ll try.”

“Thank you, son,” Thor said.

“If we’re going to be searching for some nightmare demon I’m gonna be taking this-” Rebecca said and held out her hand.

Mjolnir shot forward but it was still attached to Thor’s belt.  He yelped and grabbed the handle quickly.  “She is still attached to me.  Did you wish to pants your father while he sits on the throne?”

Riley and Billy both unsuccessfully smothered laughter but Rebecca broke, laughing loudly.  “It’s good to learn humility,” she teased.

That set off the farmer too, and he covered his mouth as he hid his laughter.

Thor unhooked the hammer and held it out.  “Here,” he said.  “Take care of her.”

Rebecca held out her hand and the hammer flew into it.  “We won’t let you down,” she said.

Riley bowed to the farmer.  “Sir, if you’ll lead the way.”

As they walked away and the next person made their way toward us Thor turned to me.  “I should have the dwarves of Nidavellir forge everyone their own divine weapons.  Perhaps then everyone will stop stealing mine.”

I laughed. “It’s not just that it’s a weapon, honey,” I said.  “The spell means we get your powers too.  Plus there’s the whole ego thing about being worthy.  Besides - what would mine do?  Let me see the threads that connect us even brighter?”

Thor chuckled.  “I suppose you’re right, my life.  Even still, I shall make the request.”

That night, we were halfway through our dinner in the banquet hall with the whole family before Riley, Rebecca, and Billy showed up.  Teddy was anxious about how long Billy had been away and no amount of me telling him he was fine would set his mind at ease.

“Teddy,” I said as he pushed his food around on his plate.  He looked up at me and I pointed to the doors just as they swung open and Rebecca, Riley, and Billy walked in.

Teddy jumped to his feet and rushed to Billy.  “Oh my god, I was so worried,” he said, pulling the other man into a deep kiss.

Piper jumped off her seat excitedly.  “Daddy!” she squealed and ran to them as Flynn wiggled in his highchair.

“That’s quite the welcome home,” Billy chuckled as he pulled back from Teddy.  “I’m fine, babe.  I’m fine.”  He scooped up Piper and carried her to the table, kissing Flynn on the head before he took a seat.

Thor held out his hand, calling Mjolnir to him, and hung the hammer back on his belt.  “How fared thee?”

“There is definitely something dark out there,” Riley said as she took a seat.  “We all felt it.  Whatever it is, it seems to be trying to build power.  And it appears to be working.  The field in which we could feel that fear was significant.”

Thor frowned.  “I do not like the sound of that.  Could you track it to its source?”

“I thought I was,” Billy said.  “I was definitely getting close.  But whatever this is, it’s strong.  The trail just stopped dead and I couldn’t pick it up again.”

Thor stood.  “I should go examine this myself.”

“What now?” Rose asked.

“Yes, daughter,” Thor said.  “It is threatening my people.  I need to be rid of it.”

Steve stood and so did Wanda and Sam.  “I’ll come with you,” they all practically said in unison.

Thor nodded.  “That is a good idea.  The rest of you stay put.  I will be back if we cannot find anything, but I do not want to leave the palace unguarded.”

“Be careful,” I said.

Tony laughed.  “You know he won’t be.”

“I’ll take care of him,” Wanda added and kissed the top of my head.

“Don’t wait up for us,” Steve said and as the three of them left the room I wondered if the dread that the farmers felt out there was anything like that which I was feeling right now.
