I knew that the Champions would be disappointed with Iris almost losing, that they’d definitely berate her for not being strong enough

BUT THEYRE LAYING THEIR HANDS ON MY GIRL IRIS. THEYRE LEGIT BEATING HER UP FOR ALMOST LOSING HER TITLE

Diantha really just told Cynthia to put Iris in Hell for timeout. But god even without Giratina in the distortion world it’s still pretty scary looking. Can’t imagine being stuck there for an hour and thinking you’ve been abandoned or something

But ough, this time the punishment will be even worse. Because Iris wasn’t just down to her last Pokémon, she was down to her last move. If she made the wrong call then she’d no longer be champion, but luckily (or unluckily) for her she won that battle

With the next champion meet up in Unova and them spying on the meeting, it’s only a matter of time for one of the champions to ask Iris about the challengers she’s faced in the past while. And she answer truthfully for all except one, but Diantha had eyes watching Iris that report back to her. So the color drains from her face when Diantha asks about her last challenger, Hilbert. And the way Diantha is looking at her tells Iris that she knows. And there’s nothing she can do to get out of this

God all five of them watching in horror as Iris tries to get away from the champions and explain that she still had her title, she never lost. That she’ll train even more then she already is. But it gets even worse when a portal opens up and Iris starts panicking even more then she already is

They’re all smart enough to know that they could never take down 8 champions so they just have to watch Iris getting tormented by them. But Hilbert definitely feels like shit because this is all happening to her because of him. If he gave up sooner then Iris wouldn’t be in this situation

But holy shit imagine tho, Cynthia already in the Distortion World, Gira's tendrils coming out from the portal, grabbing Iris' limbs, slowly pulling her down with them, and Iris is there, fighting back, trying to not be pulled down in Hell w Cynthia (bc Cynthia was terrifying and Cynthia was merciless and Cynthia wants her to scream until she loses her voice, Cynthia wraps those tendrils around her neck until she sees black, and Cynthia would just laugh at her and sneer and jeer and tell her how useless their training was if she's still this weak), begging Diantha to forgive her, that she'll be better, I promise! Diantha, please! I promise I'll be better! But Diantha just looked at her, glaring at her, disappointed, and with a snap of her fingers, Cynthia finally dragged Iris down to the Distortion World with her, her sinister laugh echoed within the room, and it sent a shiver down the Unova kids' spines.

God imagine how much that'd fuck then up, finding out whats happening behind closed doors, that they start to panic too, every bone in their body telling them to run, and it only took Bianca tugging on Hilda's shirt for them to run.

Imagine them trying to get away from the champions as quickly and quietly as they could. And god Hilbert was so fucking guilty, he was honestly crying as they ran, blaming himself that Iris had to go through that, and he just fucking hates himself god he hates himself so fucking much so so fucking much his friend is hurt because of him

The others try to calm him down before he spiralled even more to the point Cheren and N had to carry him out, as he actually passed out

And yo all five of them staying w each other that night, terrified that the champions might find them, that one or two of em has to stay up to be on guard, Reshiram and Zekrom's pokeballs at the ready, hoping that the champions also don't have another legendary Pokémon w them

The next day, they see Iris again, and she acted like nothing happened, she was still her usual (well, the usual now) self, and she's there w the champions as if they didn't just drag her to hell and back the day before

First impression: I’m pretty sure the first time I ever saw anything about Cunoesse it was when YouTube recommended me the clip of when you can shoot her 😭 I didn’t watch it bc I wanted to avoid spoilers but my first thought was like “Cunoesse? 🤨 as in Cuno?” So I googled her and saw she was a ten year old and was like ?!??.!.? WHY DOES SHE GET SHOT? Initially I thought maybe she had something to do with the murder and that shooting her must be some climactic moment bc it sounded so fucked up, only to find out that the scene is an optional one and just 100000% Harry being a pig 💀

Impression now: she is everything to me she is maybe my favorite character in the whole game like you don’t even understand!!! 😭 where did she come from? Why is she alone? Who did she kill? Why did she and Cuno split in the Cuno route? And where can she even go from there if Cuno leaves? She haunts me which I think is the point… she represents nearly everything that we would hope to change via revolution, the kind of person who we’re trying to build a place in this world for… she makes me cry if I think about her too long. Ough. The true girl child revolution of my heart

Favorite moment: her fight with Cuno over locust city broke my heart so bad because I’ve got little siblings too, ik she didn’t mean to hurt him, she’s just a ten year old kid who’s grouchy that Cuno has a hobby that she can’t join in/relate to, but she hits on all his sore spots by acting out over it and he hits hers back and then it ends w that total gutpunch of Cuno saying “Cuno can be whatever he wants. Cuno can even be a pig if he wants!” And Cunoesse saying “don’t be a pig, Cuno… you’d have to take me away…” LIKE!!!! GOD. FUCK. What a moment.

Idea for a story: I keep wanting to write something about C in Martinaise after Cuno leaves for Jamrock, trying to fill the space he left behind until she sort of starts blurring the lines between them and just pretending to be him bc she’d rather be anything but herself… 😔

Unpopular opinion: best character in the game. To me.

First impression: immediately loved her so much. I work at a bookstore myself so obviously I was drawn to her and Plaisance right off the bat and ended up spending all of day 1 on bringing Annette out of the cold and then exploring the doomed commercial area instead of investigating the murder LMAO

Impression now: I LOVE HER… she’s a good kid… she gave me a hat!!!!!! 😭 I love that even tho she’s very much trying to be a dutiful and well behaved daughter, you still see her act like a kid and get mischievous with Harry in a way that feels authentic. She’s just so fun and endearing

Favorite moment: all of her interactions are great but I was most taken aback by when she talks to you about Harry during his bender. It’s a sad moment but there’s something sort of touching about that combination of being blunt but also nonjudgmental bc she’s so young. She’s just genuinely glad to see you seem to be doing better ;_;

Idea for a story: I keep thinking it would be fun to write something about Martinaise as seen through Annette’s eyes. All the people who come through the bookstore… maybe focused on Billie in the aftermath of her husband’s death 😔 I also have thought about writing something with post-game Harry getting a job at the bookstore so that Annette doesn’t have to help out as much, tho that’s mostly just bc it would let me write about working at a bookstore lmao

Unpopular opinion: idk what opinions on Annette even do ppl have aside from “I love her” 😭

I'm going to say right off the bat that I am not actually too heated about this, I just thought it might be interesting to talk about if you're willing. If this is getting on your nerves just say so and I will never ask you about your Tsumugi take again. After all we are in the end just strangers chatting about a game :) ( I am so sorry to flood your inbox but now I'm committed to this so. Ignore the others if you want to! Also this is old news but I couldn't send for a few days so here I go.)

I would like to point out that Tsumugi, in canon, shares similarities with Hifumi (fiction>reality & fandom active). They were both played off as just weebs, except for Tsumugi's masterminding. Canonically, Hifumi would be as likely to be a gross creepy fan as Tsumugi- but obviously, thats dumb as shit and he deserves better. The thing im having difficulty understanding is why you would disregard canon's nonsense when it concerns Hifumi, but emphasize that aspect in your perception of Tsumugi.

If the masterminding is what villifies her, I could bring up Junko again or point to the ambiguity of the mm role- between V3's convoluted 'none of it was real!' and your clear apathy towards strict canon (which i totally support), I do not see a reason you wouldnt apply similar logic to that you used on the other characters I mentioned to Tsumugi instead of writing her off as a gross fujoshi or whatever. Im not trying to make you like her, but it seems unfair to reduce her to the worst possible traits she could have when you have expanded on and humanized so many other dr characters. (ugh i had to split the last paragraph into 2. im so sorry about that)

first off no need to apologize! i love discussion & dialogue and you bring up some good points! it's true i haven't talked about her in a very positive light on my blog, and that i've reduced her publicly. i HAVE done a lot of thinking about her and i agree that like.. i haven't expressed it on my blog as much as i have in private GKDSKGDS and mainly that's because like...i just don't think she's interesting. yes, she's complicated like any other dr character but she just...doesn't interest me. like, hifumi interests me because of the fanon him vs the canon him and how they differ rather strikingly.

however for tsumugi like...i can't really see a disconnect other than some people making her Only Evil and Only Ever Evil when in reality she's...very much being hurt by danganronpa too and she doesn't really grasp the full consequences of her own actions bc of it being normalized etc in the world she grew up in + her fandom-y lens, and you're right, it's a LOT like how Hifumi sees things through his lens of his special interest but also. he had moments where you saw through that shit to his genuine self. tsumugi...doesn't get that.

which i understand is partially because of her whole ough im so plain schtick but also like. they do manage to make some background characters interesting! like rantaro! you don't learn a lot about him and he dies really quickly but he's still compelling and you WANT to learn more about him. tsumugi is just...painfully uninteresting.

and honestly? i think she was a shit mastermind choice. again i realize im a hypocrite coming from a standpoint of liking junko, but i really dont think she makes a good mastermind. which i know is part of the point of her being the mastermind in the first place, but much like a LOT of v3's overarching themes, it falls flat. it really feels there's no real compelling reason for her to enact this other than she likes danganronpa etc etc etc and that she's got Fandom Brainrot (like a lot of the fans). idk.

and on the junko point--even without me changing her for personal interest, junko was ALREADY an interesting character. That foundation is necessary. If i find tsumugi boring, i cant ever expand upon her because it will always be boring to me, yknow?

and like again like...i DO try to see her as a fleshed out human--and i have tried to flesh her out. she's just...still uninteresting to me. and im sorry if it seemed like i hadnt, i just dont really tend to talk in depth about the characters that i find uninteresting

How I feel about this character: OH he's such a bi disaster. But he's trying his best. Textbook himbo. Crushed under the weight of his father's expectations of him alot of the time. Probably struggles with self worth nowadays too,with the battles and family he's lost! Also he's very much like those memes abt dudes/dads where they'll mention some horrible childhood trauma and then have some funny song playing in their head like nothin even happened.! I feel like he cares very deeply for the friendships he's made and the found family he's gained with the warriors three [rip] and the avengers! Overall? Kind himbo who respects women and forgets how smart he is sometimes.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: honestly this is such a hard question cause im sure if u presented me with like,good reasons for most people then I'd be on board. But so far one of my Main ships for Thor rn is Bruce and Thor <3 GammaHammer makes me happy :} I've seen thor n valkyrie stuff too which is like aight they're all bi4bi t4t prolly,but honestly a polycule or some shit w Bruce Val and thor would be Inch resting :} I'm not sure tho! So while Reshiram and Zekrom are still kinda dicks to Hilda and Hilbert, I feel like they’re still kinda chill with them after a while. Like they’re not fighting for control 24/7 like Kyurem is to Iris, but they’ll still try once in a while. Like maybe they’re still healing after that fight Ghetsis caused

But I was thinking about why Kyurem would chose a 10 yo instead of waiting for someone else to show up. And like what if he chose her because he thought it would be easy for her to relent and let him take over her body once he threatens her with death. But Iris probably has a shit ton of will power if she’s kept control up until this point

Ough but yeah, would Drayden (and the rest of the League) even know it’s Iris that’s Kyurems new host? Cause she was used for Kyurems power by Team Plasma. Also Kyurem was practically tortured in Bw2 to make it use its power to attack cities. Can’t imagine the pain Iris feels. And if I’m remembering correctly, Kyurem was electrocuted or something to make it fire a Glaciate

So they probably did the same thing to Iris just in a smaller scale to not kill her, but still fucking painful. She can never catch a break, first tortured by Kyurem then by Team Plasma

One last thing, but imagine how the League is feeling. Their Champion was attacked and then kidnapped by Team Plasma which is bad in itself. But now they don’t know if she’s being held in the Frigate or another unknown location. So when the Frigate got destroyed after a few icy attacks, it’s like a 50/50 chance their champion was involved in that attack so now they don’t even know if she survived

God but imagine tho if like,, Plasma, or rather Ghetsis, was there taunting the League that he actually has Iris with him. Y'know, like maybe during that attack in Opelucid, Ghetsis was there smirking down at Drayden, showing him the state of Iris, telling everyone how Iris was nothing more than a monster, fused with Kyurem, bringing nothing but destruction. Imagine how much that'd fuck up Drayden tho, having to see his granddaughter go through hell and back, being tortured by Plasma, imagine if Ghetsis made Drayden watch as they electrocute Iris tho, and using her and Kyurem's powers to freeze Opelucid over

Man imagine how much that'd fuck up Drayden tho imagine him just wanting to kill Ghetsis on the spot but he can't bc everything's frozen over and he's trapped and he's fighting off Zinzolin, but that mfer was just a distraction, and Ghetsis and the rest of Plasma flew of somewhere else

But also imagine if that really was the final trigger for Iris, like this concept led to this maybe?

Anyways yeah the league bcmdnd idk, imagine them trying to look for her too, and ofc the people of Lacunosa had said they last saw the Frigate near the Chasm, so they went there, searched every nook and cranny, but they never found Iris. Maybe she really hid herself from them, maybe she's really dead, either way,, well,, the E4 has to tell Drayden of the loss, how they never found Iris or any trace of her.

And just ncmxnd ough Iris showing herself to Nate bc Kyurem still needs the Splicers, and maybe Drayden gave Nate the Splicers still, hoping that Nate would track down Plasma and save Iris from Kyurem, but now that he found her, she's probs too far gone already, she's like, trying so hard to stop Kyurem from hurting Nate, and while they were both weak, Iris knew not to underestimate the boundary pkmn, as he's so so fucking determined to get the Splicers

Now tho would Nate even tell the League where Iris is, or maybe Kyurem got him trapped too?? Or maybe,, Iris and Kyurem really became one,, like, idk how the describe this sorry my braincells are so dead I just got home from my class, but like, do you see my vision for this?? Iris managing to fight off Kyurem that their souls or smth clashed, and it got to the point that they really became a singular being, one without any of its memories anymore, an empty husk. Or maybe smth like that, but instead of losing the memories, KyuRis became a more unstable and aggressive being, attacking anything in their path, and just bcmdnd ough Nate having to fight them tho, still holding on to that hope and promise to Drayden that he'll save Iris

You are honestly making me ill. Bianca, Drayden, and Hilbert not wanting Iris to leave. Absolutely trying their best to convince her to stay with them. That they’ll be able to defeat Team Plasma with her, be able to return to a normal life, be able to have her back in their lives

But that isn’t Iris’ world. She has a Bianca, Hilbert, and Drayden waiting for her. She can’t stay with them. And they know that, they just won’t be able to handle the loss again

But on a lighter note, Iris teaching Hilbert how to use the Battle Bond ability. Telling him to send out Emboar, to put his hand where Emboar’s heart is. For Emboar to put his hand where Hilberts heart is. To close their eyes and think. Think about the friendship they have, think about the day they met, to the day they had their first win, their first loss, to think about everything that brought their friendship closer. That created the close bond only they could experience

Hilbert and Emboar didn’t end up syncing up right then and there, but they felt it. That feeling Iris described of becoming one with your Pokémon

And after some trial and error, they’ll be able to finally sync up and use the Bond Phenomena

Also, I know in the anime it was all cool and stuff to use the bond phenomena. But to start off Iris and Hilbert probably had to mentally train and connect with their partners to even sync up, not even including being able to sync up on command. And then they’d physically train to combat the pain they’d feel during battle, lest they pass out mid fight

Also just because this is Hilbert we’re talking about, I just know this guy got so excited when he first got the hang of it, that he told Hilda’s Serperior (Samurott? I don’t remember her starter) to attack them. And one got hit to Emboar stomach had Hilbert folding and wheezing on the ground

RIGHT ITS JUST SOOOOO CHDMBNDND YOUR HONOUR THEY JUST MISS HER SO MUCH😭

But oughh,,,,, ough pls bc in my hcs, Hilbert knows abt the Bond Phenomena bc Iris was the first to actually do it w Haxorus and they ended up training together pls this is hurting me😭🤣

That's cool tho a lil training montage too hahaha ough wait that'd be dope, if Iris does help Hilbert train w Emboar to achieve battle bond, imagine if the champions really did decide to help everyone else stop the evil team before they go, so at least they won't have to worry abt it anymore, and Iris, well, ofc she's gonna help Hilbert train, they need all the power they can get, and she knows even her Kyurem isn't enough

Anyways true tho, Hilbert challenging Hilda's Samurott hahah, in my hcs she has Hydreigon but like, yeah, why not Samurrott, she'd be the type to have the type advantage over Hilbert's ace to spite him lmfao. And like, that happening tho and Hilbert just doubles over in pain w Emboar, Iris just gives him a look, going "why am I not surprised you did that in this universe too."

Oughghghfh your honour,,,,,,, soft moments w Hilbert and Iris after training,,,, like, them just sitting together under a tree, for Hilbert it felt nice bc they didn't have to think of anything else for a while; Haxorus and Emboar were still training with each other, their other pokemon were watching, and Iris was next to him, leaning on his shoulder. It was nice for him y'know, to have her next to him again, to have her with him, to know she's alive and breathing and warm and she's right next to him. But he knows she's not really their Iris.

And like,, imagine them talking tho, Hilbert asking abt what Iris' universe was like, about her life there, what she did that she survived Plasma's attack. And ofc, she told him everything, told him what she and Haxorus managed to reach while fighting off Plasma, and that saved her life. And god imagine that breaking Hilbert. Their Iris would've been alive rn if she and Haxorus managed to unlock the Bond Phenomena too, but then his mind drifted off to his own self loathing, never blaming Iris, ofc he couldn't blame her. Instead he's there blaming himself, maybe if he had been there with her, she would still be alive, maybe he could've saved her, maybe they could've escaped together, maybe w their combined power during that time, they really could've stopped Plasma.

But he wasn't there, y'know. And when he got there, he was already too late.

Iris sees his hands trembling, fidgeting, she takes them in hers, leaning in closer, telling him it's going to be okay, they'll beat Plasma soon enough. But ough cbdndbdn that wasn't what Hilbert was thinking at that time ofc, instead he pulls Iris close to him, impossibly closer, his hold tight yet gentle, his voice, wavering, vulnerable, laid bare before her were all the pent up self frustration he held deep, and he whispers, voice breaking, "don't.. don't leave, please.. I don't want to lose you again.."

And just like with Bianca, Iris broke, trying to comfort Hilbert now, hoping she could give him the reassurance and closure that he needs.
