I'm sure I'll love BG3 if/when I finally get to play it, but I am also sure I don't really want to touch that fandom with a 10 meter pole. Too big, too toxic, and they scream uncontrollably too much. It's like BG3 is their new religion and they've never played anything before.
I'm immensely glad and happy for Larian's success, they absolutely deserved and needed that win, but it's not the first nor the last good game out there, plus they have a lot of work to do for it still, as the quality control is all over the place, in last acts especially or so I've heard.

BG3 has two of the most thoughtful, unapologetic, no holds barred depictions of men with abusive female partners I've every seen (Wyll + Mizora and Gale + Mystra), which is so rare to see in any media but especially video games, and some of the Larian writers seem determined to convince me it was 100% by accident

sorry, i'm still hung up on how bad the writing for sarevok was in bg3. it's not even just "he's so out of character!!" bad. that is just straight up not him. literally who is this man, what the hell is he talking about, and what has he done with the actual sarevok because nothing he says makes ANY sense like....
just as one example of how wild the contradictions/retcons are, this is how bg3 has him recount his resurrection in bg2 -
and this is (parts of) how it actually happened -
like??? it's so bad and weird and dumb and for WHAT???

the funniest part of bg3 to me is that they keep talking about how vampires are super enhanced and have incredible abilities and are super scary, even if they're spawn, etc... yet astarion has a strength modifier of fucking 0 and can jump a distance of like 20cm, he's always without fail the first one in my party to eat shit no matter what i have him do, he's not even particularly fast. i have to assume that either the vampires are really good at PR and managed to convince everyone they have superpowers when they don't, or astarion was such a cringe elf that this is him with super strength and speed. and personally i know which one i find funnier

Ok I know I'm heavily biased here but like I kinda love that Astarion's romance is one of the few in this type of video game where you basically end up canonically unmarried and childfree in his "good" ending? Just travelling the world??
Like it's honestly the millennial dream lmfaoo cannot believe i chose what would undoubtedly be my favorite option, first try

Maybe I'm in the minority here but I think it's a little weird when the Internet pitches a nuclear level fit when they can't fuck a character in a video game and try to get the devs to change it. Like you have 87 options and you're out here acting like the squirrel bitch in the chocolate factory

"Boo since Larian got rid of the grinch smile Astarion doesn't make silly faces anymore"
WRONG. First, that face was a bug due to missing LODS on high animation settings. And it seems like everyone got a tune up as far as expressiveness goes. So it was probably "fixed" on accident just by them tweaking and improving things. Second, if he doesn't make silly faces anymore then wtf are these then:

interesting how gale & wyll fans are often the ones who dislike astarion most lmao. it feels a little bit like larian doesn't respect them or their hopeless romanticism, and certainly not their kind approach to the world. out of the male origin characters, it's glaringly obvious that there's a favorite, and it just...sucks for everyone else.

The only time I've ever gotten the cutscene of Lae'zel and Shadowheart arguing about the relic followed by Shadowheart trying to kill Lae'zel has been immediately after Lae'zel tried to proposition Shadowheart's lover for sex in front of her. Quite a ways into the journey, long after the relic was brought up and made relevant.
Lae'zel wasn't fond of the player before that, so it was quite a shock. Not sure how my approval shot up so fast, but it more gave the vibe that she was doing it mostly to anger Shadowheart.
Which then gave the fight a vibe of 'I'm using this as an excuse to fight with you but really I want to pick a catfight over the camp's hottest Gith' which is such a stupid funny thought, just total camp discord because my Gith cleric is too sexy for this world.

smh a little this whole BG3 situation happening on twitter. Like yes, indie devs 100% should not be held to the standards of AAA games. I don't know if going to twitter to yell about how BG3 shouldn't be a new industry benchmark is the way to handle that...but people know indie games and small studio games are different than AAA games.
now, someone from Diablo 4, someone from a much much larger studio, getting in on the complaints and saying they shouldn't be held to the standards of what Larian's putting out...that's bloody laughable.
