Seeking Mutual Aid

Well guys, it's finally happened. It's my turn to pay the piper. It's my turn to beg for money online.

The context: up until very recently, I was the full time caretaker for my disabled brother, despite being similarly disabled myself. I also was going to school full time and working. I make $800/month and that was enough to survive because I also got a decent chunk of FAFSA every semester.

Then, my grandmother got sick. My mother, who lived with us about half the time, left to take care of her, and took her financial support with her. Suddenly I was not only the sole caretaker of my brother but also a large 3bed/2bath house with a full garden, all while going to school and trying to work. Just to afford food, I wracked up large amounts of debt with the assumption that when FAFSA came in the fall, I'd be able to pay it off.

But the work was too much. I couldn't finish my classes, and had to take incompletes. This resulted in me losing my financial aid. I managed to get the funds together (mostly by guilting family) to afford my last semester of college, but now there's the matter of all that "buying food" debt. We lost SNAP in the middle of all of this because they added work requirements (I wasn't eligible at all, being a student, but my brother had been. Obviously he can't work, but my support makes him not qualify for disability status either.)

The short of it: to stave off the demons of interest rates, I need like $1500 by the middle of October. That's. A lot. I make $800/month, so I can kind of do it if I uhhhhh *checks notes* don't buy food for 2 months. Hm. An issue has been detected.

I hate this because I almost fucking made it in life without having to get on my knees and beg strangers on the internet for cash (giving them my full legal name in the process), but here we are. It's at least an "any amount helps" situation and not a zero sum game, so I'm passing the hat around to see if anyone can throw in a dollar. ✫ I can only see Shin as someone that wants and will learn more about the disability, how to comfort you, how to properly handle it and how you want to be treated. He wants you to elaborate everything, if you can read lips, if you are able to use sign language or you are able to hear, but not well.

✫ He doesn’t want to make you uncomfortable, as in making you feel like you are different than others, so he will do research.

✫ My boy will learn sign language for you (if it’s the way you want to communicate with others), he wants to take the effort to properly have a conversation to you.

✫ When he first met you, he heard that he should avoid mumbling and covering his mouth. If you didn’t catch what he said, he takes his time and will repeat it for you.

✫ Shin will be having conversations with you from eye to eye, he will not see you as something less or as someone that can’t do something on their own. While talking he will keep still, to make it easier for you to understand him.

✫ He will make sure that you are in an environment with not much background noises taking place.

✫ When he got to know you better, at first he obviously couldn’t do sign language, but he will be very excited to show you the new words he learned (such a puppy), you mentioned to him before that he should use gestures and express his body language a lot, so he did.

Story Summary;

Born on the island of Nantucket, Valerie always had an interest in computers, eventually going to the CIT for university (then going to mortuary school afterwards). They got a grant from the Atherstone Corporation (not important atm) to start their own small research facility back on Natucket. But that only lasted for about 3 years until it ate through all of her grant money. Turning to contract work to help keep her afloat, she met Sinclair after he hired her to improve the AI systems at the Sierra Madre Casino, learning about BIG MOUNTAIN through him. Lucky for her, Klein had just approved a new research facility (which was basically a big morgue) and he had no one to run it. She gets the position as department head of Artificial Intelligence, computing, and Thanatology technology at Reasearch facility X-54, giving her total scientific freedom to pursue her research to her heart’s content without the financial burden. She um.. went a bit crazy with that freedom (the flesh computer…). Eventually transferring her brain into a think tank after the war.

Story Summary;

Born to James and Catherine in the year 2258, Liane grew up in vault 101, being born with the same genetic condition as their father, complete ankyloblepharon in their right eye. It’s sealed, not being able to open. James made them use an eyepatch in order to hide their eye from the other vault dwellers. When they turned 19 however, James left the vault. The overseer sent guards to apprehend and execute liane. Luckily they escaped, killing the overseer and their best friend Amata in the process. Being out in the world for the first time, Liane had little empathy for the people of the wasteland, killing without mercy, blowing up megaton and destroying arefu. Yet they still felt a twang of sympathy for the people they killed, eventually their actions take more of a toll on them as they get older and realize what they had done. During the events of the battle for project purity (I don’t feel like summing up fallout 3 sorry) they spare colonel autumn, eventually meeting up with him in a dingy bar after they wake up from their coma. And they go on adventures and stuff, getting abducted and blowing up Detroit then accidentally blowing up Saint Louis then accidentally

When she was about 23 ish, she left arroyo, traveling around the west coast before settling in the Mojave region for 3 years. She worked as a courier for the Mojave express before um.. getting shot. She sides with Mr house in the end, mainly because she doesn’t want to run a city and he kinda has shit under control.

Story Summary;

Sanders people, the Espir were situated on the great salt lake for hundreds of years. As the legion was growing, they annexed the tribe quite brutally, killing every male over the age of 14. The legion hunter, the matador, Sander, was lucky enough to be 12 at the time. Before he left his home, his father gave him the prized family possession, a golden scimitar that had been passed down from generation to generation. After escaping, he headed west, eventually being rescued by a group of traders heading to arroyo. He would regret his decision, having to leave his mother and sister behind, but he would work hard to become strong, and he started killing any legionary he could find. He adopted the name “The Matador” after his first kill. He wiped out entire camps by himself and many other important figures to Caesar. He still is hunting for one ex legionary, Joshua graham, who was responsible for the death of all of the men in his village.

Story summary;

Born in Vault 13 in the year 2118, Adam always had a strong personality, being easily able to sway a person over to his side or manipulate them to get what he wanted. After taking the G.O.A.T, he was placed in charge of the Vault PA system, playing “Vault DJ”, entertaining his other vault dwellers daily for nearly 20 years, eventually marring the overseers “granddaughter” Pat, although “she” was treated as a woman, he was actually a Transman, just not coming out to anyone besides his husband and a few close friends in fear of being ostracized by vault society, adopting the name Pan in secret. But after the water chip malfunction, Adam was chosen by the vaults computer to be sent out. Even though he and Pan both protested this decision, the overseer wouldn’t budge, sending Adam out into the wastes. After destroying the mutant army and bringing back the chip, he was forced out by the overseer, wandering to Shady sands before being found by his husband and a bunch of their friends. The vault 13 outcasts started a thriving community in the desert, Arroyo. After Pans death though, Adam took off, leaving control of the settlement to his eldest daughter Agatha.

Gimme some director's cut deets on your modern AU!

Oh, goodness, my modern AU (with all the BDSM and Petplay...)

First the Party, in their majors (I think I commented on some of these, but I figured out Valere and Zale finally):

Garl is majoring in Family/Child Psychology, and probably gonna continue on to get a master’s degree (maybe eventually a PhD? I thought Culinary Arts, but it’s a bit too on the nose; plus, he was so amazing and supportive throughout the game, and he was absolutely great with Malkomud). Garl has a variety of scholarships, grants, and financial aid getting him through college.

Teaks, of course, is getting a degree in History (minoring in Creative Writing (she writes horror/thriller in her spare time, and some of her work is getting popular)). Teaks is also using a variety of scholarships, grants, and financial aid.

Seraï is getting a restoration ecology degree, with an eye to getting a masters (then a PhD). She wants to help with restoration projects in areas that have been damaged by humans. (She hides the fact that she's rich-rich from everyone as long as possible, which eventually results in Zale having a conspiracy theory that she's a Yakuza heiress).

Valere intends on getting her degrees in Physics and Engineering. She's has an idea of becoming an aerospace engineer, wanting to create more efficient and eco friendly airplanes and the like for travel. Valere is in on a tennis scholarship, grants, and financial aid.

Zale is going for a basic degree atm, but will land on something in Fine Arts (honestly with my obsession with pottery rn it'll probably end up being something to do with ceramics). (His family is the same as in Bloodlines (same thing for Valere), and Haris and his shop were big influences on Zale growing up). Zale is in on a soccer scholarship, grants, and financial aid.

Resh'an and Aephorul are married and professors at the university; they own the duplex that the group is renting (unknown to the group, they live just down the street in an even older historical home. The duplex is Resh'an's, and their current home is Aephorul's).

Resh'an actually has a variety of classes in various subjects he cycles through every couple of years, and each of the group probably end up in one of his classes at one point or another (he feels like a Jack of all Trades to me).

Aephorul is a neuroscientist, reluctantly teaching classes between his research (he doesn't exactly hate it, just has no patience for most of the students who try to coast through his classes).

B'st is a contemporary of Resh'an and Aephorul, and with him being a Songster, he teaches a large variety of music classes and theory. He is good friends with the "pirate" crew after they graduated, as all of them took his classes for their degrees.

So...…Teaks introduced the idea of BDSM to the trio. First to Valere after they’d gotten together, with shibari; then to the boys when she and Valere were not as thorough in cleaning up their supplies from a play session in their living room. (There was much blushing from everyone when Zale found the cuffs and rope, then a lot of teasing.)

Garl and Zale were actually not together when they all moved into the duplex. Between being introduced to the concept of BDSM, and constant pining on both sides since their high school days, it all came to a head when Zale got really drunk and kissed Garl (and as I love the stupid trope, he passed out and didn't remember it in the morning). Garl corners him not long after, they have a long talk, and start dating (bc like hell Garl is gonna let the pining continue if he can be cuddling, kissing, and smexing his Kitten bff).

Zale came up with the Kitten-play all on his own, having stumbled on it online while looking for gifts for Garl. He ended up missing getting it all for Garl's bday, as it took a while to collect everything. He did have a very embarrassing outing with Valere to figure out what kind of lingerie to get; bc Zale chickened out going on his own, and was overwhelmed by all the variety (she didn't know about the whole Kitten bit, tho.)

Zale finds that he likes being a Kitten, and he and Garl explore it a bit deeper after that first time. Garl gets an at-home belled collar to match the lingerie, and a more incognito necklace that Zale can wear all the time (Garl has a matching bracelet). After getting his collars, Zale starts experimenting with being a Kitten a bit deeper (with non-verbal communication and non-sexual play). They actually mostly do non-sexual play in cuddle and "grooming" sessions after long days of school or work.

Garl is a Soft Dom. These two don't really "switch" their roles all that often (Zale *likes* being a Sub, and Garl *likes* being a Dom), but that doesn't mean that Zale is always bottom. Therapy just seemed to make me feel worse. Not in the “it’ll get worse before it gets better” but in the “why doesn’t anyone believe that my physical symptoms have more to do with my mental health than my mental health has to do with my physical symptoms”

we're struggling financially atm bc my partner isn't getting enough hours and my first paycheck is 3 weeks behind, plus they raised our rent so I can no longer cover half of the rent with just 1 check, and if I want to cover my partner's half it would take more than 2 checks out of 4 to do it (plus utilities due the following week after rent)... I need more mobility aids but idk if that'll happen any time soon 🙃

im also paying $30/week plus transportation sometimes for PT alone. Idk if I'll be able to even afford my copay next week because I don't get paid til Friday. not to mention the clock in software for my job is fucked up so my check might be short even though I haven't missed a single day, and they always say they'll fix it and never do

After more than 7 months of Israeli bombardment, just a handful of ATMs remain operational in the strip, most of the them in the southern city of Rafah, where some 1.4 million Palestinians are sheltering.

Supplies of basic goods had returned to some markets in April and early May for the first time in months after Israel ceded to international pressure to let in more aid trucks amid famine warnings.

But residents and aid workers say that many people haven't had the cash to purchase them. Now residents say Israel's offensive in Rafah has dried up supplies again and stoked prices.

Hundreds, sometimes thousands, of desperate people crowd outside ATMs, often waiting days for access. Armed gangs sometimes demand a fee to provide priority access, exploiting the absence of Palestinian police, three Western aid workers and seven residents told Reuters.

Abu Ahmed, 45, a resident of Rafah, said he had waited for as long as seven days and became so frustrated that he turned for help to gang members, who are sometimes armed with knives and guns.

"I paid 300 shekels ($80) of my salary to one of them for accessing the ATM and getting my cash," said Abu Ahmed, who asked that his last name not be used for fear of reprisals. He earns 3,500 shekels per month as a public servant.

The three Western aid workers described the gangs as improvised groups that have sprung up across the Strip up as desperation has grown.

As of May 13, only 5 branches and 7 ATMs remain operational in the strip, primarily in Rafah, according to the Palestine Economic Policy Research Institute, a non-profit organization headquartered in the West Bank. Before the war, Gaza had 56 bank branches and 91 ATMs.

The conflict erupted after an Oct. 7 attack on Israel by Palestinian Islamist militant group Hamas, in which some 1,200 people were killed and more than 250 taken hostage. Israel's assault on Gaza, aimed at destroying Hamas and returning the hostages, has killed at least 35,000 Palestinians, according to Gaza's health ministry.

The Palestinian economy runs on the Israeli shekel. Gaza's financial system is almost completely dependent on Israel, which must approve major transfers and the movement of cash into the enclave, bankers said.

Israel has blocked cash imports to Gaza since the start of the war in October, according to the Palestine Monetary Authority (PMA) and the Association of Banks in Palestine (ABP), a non-profit based in the West Bank city of Ramallah.

Adnan Alfaleet, the Gaza district manager of Palestine Islamic Bank, which operates the biggest Islamic banking network in the Palestinian Territories, said his bank has no cash left in Gaza.

"We reached the point of complete lack of liquidity now. It can't get worse," he said.

The Israeli central bank did not respond to questions about whether transfers had been blocked. It said there were no Israeli banks in Gaza and shekels had circulated there in the past because of trade with and Palestinian workers in Israel.

COGAT, an Israeli Defense Ministry agency tasked with coordinating aid deliveries into the Palestinian territories, did not respond to Reuters' questions.

The feeling when you get a nice Christmas gift in the form of your entire fall semester's amount of financial government support...

But it's 1 in the morning and you read the papers they made about it, realizing that not only will your options be:

A. No financial disability support or trade school as disability rehabilition, putting you under social security and "worker's comp". (Social security means that the 200+ euros I just got will be counted as income possibly? So, i can't do shit with them atm.)

B. No financial support for school, but yes for disability aid.

C. Disability aid & a new semester of financial aid for trade school as disability rehab.

But also I just realized that I have it in writing that i was told all I had to do was inform them of if my rehab would continue and why, NOT that I would have to apply for it again. Uhm. Left hand, right leg...

(Edit: I can't imagine them just stopping at least my disability aid/benefits since I just moved into housing for the disabled, which would mean i could still go to school. I guess I'd just have to pay bills for january ahead of time, so i would still have an extra 200+ euros to use just in case my applications don't make it in time and i have to be on social security.)

thing is our parents are trying at least but they are way too controlling and think they know it all better than we kids. but they never accept other opinions on things. also i had to lie to my dad that i finished uni and even that lie + polished up reality (that i work for a publisher atm, which i do but just as freelancer with financial aid) that is not enough. he's expecting me to get a high paying designer job now to justify all those years of studying... i think he would get a heart attack if i told him how fucked the market is atm and that i don't even want to follow my original dream job anymore. atm i just want to survive with a job that feels like it makes sense close to my passion.

thinking about how my cousin is telling me about getting certified for my autism and getting the financial aid cuz i need it, but since ALL the time when I go to specialists they go "yeah you've got no autism" at first glance, and then they go "yeah. we were mistaken. sorry bout that." once they treat me for longer, so my brain immediately went "how do i make myself look as stereotypically autistic as possible so i don't need to pay for more than one or two sessions with the neurologist" because i do not have the money for that.

side eyeing my naruto shippuden hoodie, undertale tshirt atm. also, my full suit that i just recovered from my mom's house. why? because it would be a special event, obviously.

i just wanna know would i have to declare I'm getting tips I don't have a job atm, nor have I made enough for a tax return from my previous job idk how tipping works..
