21. If you’re a fic writer and have written for this character, what’s your favorite thing to do when you’re writing for this character? What’s something you don’t like?

that tumblr post where it's like "give everyone a kink" is literally how i write Hoffman XD like i always write him a second away from dropping to his knees and begging to be stepped on.

HOWEVER, i really really struggle writing hoffstrahm from hoffman's perspective, to the point that I've scrapped so many completed drafts that just didn't work

cant tell you how bad it feels to constantly tell other artists to come to tumblr, because its the last good website that isn't fucked up by spoonfeeding algorithms and AI bullshit and isn't based around meaningless likes

just to watch that all fall apart in the last year or so and especially the last two weeks

Tbh. Folks need to let Scout TF2 have his masculinity. Like, I'm not talking about making him transfemme, I'm talking about looking down on him and denying even canon Scout to be as masculine as his teammates, even Pyro, jusy because he exhibits symptoms of ADHD.

Yeah, he gets infantilized, too, but that's not what I see very often. What I see, instead, is Scout being allowed adult activities- sex, alcohol, swearing, violence, etc. But never to the extent of being traditionally "masculine". He swears too much, he must be too submissive, he enjoys violence in too childish of a way, to be a "real" man. Unlike Spy, who also swears a lot. Unlike any of the other mercs, who could be submissive or bottoms in bed. Unlike Heavy, who laughs like a little boy when gunning down hordes of enemies.

He comes off as immature sometimes, sure, but that doesn't mean he's any less of a man than his coworkers. In fact, constantly being seen as the child of the group probably frustrates Scout deeply, instilling a deep insecurity of him, which makes him act tough to try to earn their respect, instead coming off as immature and a tryhard, making his coworkers see him as the child of the group, and thus a vicious cycle of never being enough.

Scout runs fast. Talks faster. He fidgets and doesn't always have a filter. He has a baby face, he could talk your ear off about Tom Jones and baseball, he reads comic books and appears to be the only one to drink soda. He tries to be proud of himself but is the youngest of 8 sons to a single mother, so he seeks out attention and approval of others.

He's a man. He's not a kid or some other third option. He's a man and masculine. He desperately wants to be seen as masculine, likely because he never gets to. Because everyone looks down on him.

learning that self deprecation isnt cool and just makes the people around you uncomfortable unironically improved my mental health a lot. like if you just stop saying negative shit about yourself you will genuinely like yourself more and other people wont be repulsed by your attitude and you will have more friends. it's true.

some things to remember:
