Yuki and I are talking about what the living situation of the BA Founders was (before everything went to shit, anyway)

For reference: most of the living spaces in the Comet are big tall apartment building like structures that hold LOTS of Blarms at once. The Comet isn't very large - compared to something like Earth, but the population, to our memory, was relatively similar before our attempted invasion... and then the GUN raid.

Not to mention that a lot of space on the outskirts of the Comet is not urbanized - it's purely battlegrounds. Our living area was essentially condensed into one huge city. (Though now we all share one big apartment that has a sectioned off room with the control panel. A room like this was once used on the original Black Comet to pilot the Comet about the solar plain, but this one is used to pilot the body. Also the control panel kinda dubbles as my room, cause ya know, host. I do also have a special spot in Eclipse’s lab tho <3)

Anyway, we're wondering if all (except for Lillian, who basically just lived in the Death Leech nursery, and Tsunami, who often would stay at other planets, mainly her colony Little Planet) the Founders lived together in one of these apartment building structures (but ya know, bigger and cooler cause they're the leaders)

We know that Sen, Widow and Doom did live together, and well, if Sen lived in the house, then I'm sure Tea did too. I guess the question is if Death and Vladmira lived with them as well, or if the two of them lived somewhere else on the original Black Comet.

👀👀 wanna say more about your eusocial timelord theory?

when you sent this ask like a year ago apparently I did not, for which I apologize.

now it's the wee small hours and I'm trying to clear out my asks. but eusocial time lords are so fun. forgive anything that doesn't make sense/jars weirdly in this, I'm trying to explain some quite spitbally worldbuilding.

among other things, it's an explanation for (1) why are there so few time ladies on screen and (2) that very strange thing in I think it's in Gallifrey where Pandora was 'the first female President' and apparently that's a big deal? but like why would a different planet (where they regenerate!!) have the same manifestations of sexism as we have? and also vaguely riffing on the VNAs lore that Gallifrey used to be a matriarchy and Rassilon overthrew it, but also kind of completely transforming that lore.

so forget gender, this is not about gender. "male"/"female" is at best a very rough translation of the binary that Gallifreyans are concerned with, which is worker/queen. They are bees!

The Time Ladies (i.e. Gallifreyans played by female human actors) that we see in the pre-War era (all of this applies to the pre-War era)--Romana, the Rani, Flavia, Inquisitor Darkel--are biologically the equivalent of insect queens. (And the Doctor, the Master, Borusa, the Floating Time Lord, Commander Maxil, etc. etc. are the equivalent of worker bees. The fact that the former all present as female and the latter all present as male is just sort of a translation convention/useful coincidence, I guess.) Gallifreyans evolved from a eusocial species and their early political structures were developments of the hive structure, with reproductive capacity strongly linked to political authority.

Presumably this is what Rassilon, or whatever revolutionary Rassilon stole credit from, is supposed to have overturned--the link between reproductive capacity and political authority. But in my version, it was before that that Looming became a thing: the queens had control of the Looms, so it was the ultimate refinement of their arts and sciences, and it was their way of getting rid of whatever drone class there used to be, if they weren't already parthenogenetic.

And that's why there's the stereotype in Gallifrey--mentioned in connection with Pandora, suggested as a concern about Romana--that a "female" (queen) President will be autocratic. It's seen as a potential return to "how things once were."

And then I did a lot of worldbuilding for how government worked at a stage in history when there was a sort of uneasy balance between reproductive and political power, but that was for a fic Moki was working on and I think she's still working on it, so no spoilers!

So what you end up with is a hive structure where the role of the queen has been sort of abstracted away into... well, the hive itself. The power at the heart of Gallifrey is Gallifrey. I feel like that explains a lot of what's wrong with them.

There might be another branch of the species that evolved away from eusocial structure into something more like solitary bees and that's the Shobogans, possibly, since nobody seems at all clear what the Shobogans are.

Also I read that with naked mole rats, the only eusocial mammal, there are a few in each colony that are predisposed to not fit into the colony and instead go and wander and find other colonies, to promote genetic diversity, and I'm just saying, renegades.

And after the War when there are often maybe two Gallifreyans left, that's why whatever's left of the hivemind keeps trying to get at least one of them to turn out as a Time Lady. Fortunately for the universe, neither of them seems that interested in reproducing.

random lore + some extra tidbits below the cut

OKAY this is all pretty loose bc i don't wanna get top restrictive with it, the vagueness is half the fun. but here's what i got:

in the “HIVE canon”, sector heads/ranking officers (which for now is just leander and COL ig until i eventually cave and make more lmao) are specifically given custom uniforms and number prefixes instead of the CR[insert number here] format.

the “M” in front of leander’s stands for medbay. COL didn’t pick one so it’s just his name lol.

crewmates can wear any accessories they want as long as the base uniform stays the same (bee arm patches, grey, etc). all crewmate numbers gotta start with CR to be canon, but that doesn't apply to shitpost comics or like. general vibes

(there’s a reason the crew uniforms are grey. it’s the same reason leander made the captain’s gloves. )

the ship shuffles itself! it's not random all of the time, sometimes you open a door and end up in the room you were heading to like a shortcut, but other times you can open a random door and end up in the kitchen, or the training hall, etc etc. i just think an eldritch abomination ship is funny.

weirdly enough though it doesn’t do this in crisis situations. guess it’s only fun if the pranks are harmless ;;

if you get lost, call the captain (ello! o7) or COLONY over comms. they can generally get you wherever you need to go bc COLONY is directly connected to the ship and the captain’s able to make [INQUIRIES], which let us pass freely.

it’s kind of hard to tell if leander has a similar ability. the running theory is no, but he never seems confused?? when he enters a room?? so either he has one or he really just rolls with the punches. both are equally possible tbh.

in actual lore these two were probably some of if not the first few people to be recruited. obvs that’s a retcon now but shhh.

random characters from fandoms still get dragged into our shenanigans. at the end of the day this is all just for fun, and that’s one of the best parts, so hell yeah i’m keeping it.

Listen as someone who has been obsessed with vampires like my entire life (but not in a ooh there sexy way its like the symbolism man of what vampires can mean) i am a huge fan of your op vanpire au.

I know you just made a post with lore (amazing art btw) but is there anything else about the au you want to talk about. Id love to hear everything

there's a lot of things i want to talk about the au!! im going to use the frantic energy from the year to get myself some bravery and say some of it is inspired by my own experiences with hallucinations and delusion (dont ask about it pls), with the au i want to explore what it would be like having the person who changed you being very literally stuck with you.

i love stories where characters end up sharing a mind and/or body, i also really dont like when its just good person vs bad person, nuance is a lot more fun lol. the relationship luffy and mingo will be forced into stuck as they are is something important to me. mingo is an awful monster but since he can feel everything luffy does he ends up trying to teach him how to live as a vampire, how to take care of himself. im also very found of the concept of parasite (they're literally the worst thing ever and so fucking scary, so naturally they keep coming up in my stories).

it's also about luffy's body and mind failing him, because of the mindlink he has a hard time knowing where he is, sometimes who he is, what is relationships were supposed to be with others, it gets complicated for him! how hard it is to go through one's daily life when your sense are all messed up! (mingo also struggles with that a bit, but this isn't about him, even thought it's new for him too he get used to it much more easily for plot convenience).

other's ppl reaction to the situation also, i feel, completely unconsciously was also incidentally inspired by my own fear of being seen as a monster or dangerous, something to be put down or locked away!

there's also a few jokes in that lore post that reflects this here:

bugs are a pretty common brand of hallucination, be they crawling in the corner of your sight or inside you, making you feel like a walking hives, this was a funny reference to that!

"surprisingly he doesn't start biting people or become violent." this is my not very subtle "mentally ill and neurodivergent folks aren't inherently dangerous pls stop killing us". the occasional euphoria from bloodthist is vaguely inspired by some manic episode, the happy kind.

there's more, about the way this is about trauma and feeling alienated, i guess this is also a "character realize they've got a disorder/develop one and now has to live with it" kind of story.

Nostraman Nature Sucks: An Attempted Lore Post

Ave dominus nox Night Lords fans. I thought I'd take some time to go through the various NL stories I have to hand and see what I could find out about the animals that lived on Nostramo. Might come in useful for something, who knows?

Sharks and Whales

As a child, on several coastal journeys with his father, he had witnessed the eyeless barrasal sharks that would group together to hunt the great whales of the open ocean. (Night Lords Trilogy)

His voice filters into something savage and predatory, as hungry as the eyeless white sharks of Nostramo’s blackest depths. (The Long Night)

Not a big surprise since they talk about them fairly often and have the Space Sharks as a successor chapter but Nostramo does have sharks. Pretty gnarly-sounding sharks if I'm honest.

I didn't know what "barrasal" meant, so I looked it up and only found one thread on r/40klore that had the same quote in it as above. Hmm.

Assuming it's not a typo or a more straightforward reference to something I'm just not getting, I'd venture a guess that barrasal, understood here to mean of or relating to "barras" like with "abyssal" could be connected to the French Revolutionary leader Paul Barras who is mostly remembered for supporting Napoleon's rise to power before being overthrown by him.

So maybe the older barrasal sharks will make use of younger ones as temporary hunting partners only to be inevitably betrayed and consumed by them. Sounds about right I think.

As for the whales, where do I even begin? I would imagine they're "whales" in name only like in Dishonored:

This does imply the possible existence of a whaling industry at some stage in Nostramo's history, though.

Crows

Breaking news - legion that keeps referring to crows in shocking has crows on its homeworld scandal. "This is outrageous," said local Nostraman cutpurse and skin disease enthusiast Verxaglryn Quickstabber, "here we are trying to make a good name for Nostramo as a respectable hellhole, a place you'd be proud to exile your worst enemy to, and yet we're surrounded by some of the most intelligent and curious birds in existence. I was shanking someone in a back alley the other night and suddenly I saw a crow learning how to use rudimentary tools! Not on my watch, I said to the rapidly cooling body, and I threw my shiv at it. But it just flew away." At this point Mr Quickstabber was obliged to end the interview due to having been eviscerated by the Night Haunter.

I know their communication with Sevatar is happening in a dream but I really like the idea of the crows adapting to Nostramo by developing some kind of psychic hive mind that's also able to be understood by human psykers.

Crag Cougars

A beast of my home world. When next you see one of the Atramentar, look to their shoulder guards. The roaring lions on their pauldrons are what we called crag cougars on Nostramo. It was considered a mark of wealth for gang bosses to be able to leave the cities and hunt such creatures. (NLT)

Every single one of them is Scar from the Lion King, isn't it? An interesting hint about Nostramo's geography though, of which more later.

Rats

Groundcars whisked by, headlights brighter than deep-hive rats’ eyes, the occupants snug and safe behind armoured glass. (Konrad Curze: The Night Haunter)

No surprises here either. Where there's people there's rats after all.

Something with tusks?

The older Astartes grinned, wolf-like and keen, as the Atramentar either side of the Exalted’s throne growled through their tusked helms. (NLT)

This isn't that conclusive because a lot of Chaos Terminators have tusks no matter what legion they are, but Nostramo being Nostramo they probably belonged to a species of giant carnivorous mammoth that ate babies and sprayed acid from its trunk.

Cows? On My Sunless World?

‘They are still of standard human stock, and not to be mourned. What does it matter if the cattle fear the herdsman?’ hissed Krukesh the Pale. (KC:TNH)

This one's a real reach on my part as it's very likely just a turn of phrase, but I noticed it because wouldn't it be slightly more typical to use a sheep metaphor here? Plus it supports the existence of Nostraman cowboys/ranchers/vaqueros which is fun.

No bats?

His helmet bore a new, spread batwing crest in blatant imitation of Sevatar’s own. (A Safe and Shadowed Place)

A sole space was neat: a circle around an iron lectern fashioned in the form of a bat’s outflung wings, which carried a heavy book bound in human skin. (KC:TNH)

Although they appear a lot in the VIII legion's iconography and artwork, oddly enough I wasn't actually able to find a direct reference to Nostramo itself having bats. Let's cover my ass by saying this aspect might therefore have been brought in by the legion's Terran component instead.

Some Nostraman geography

The Hill Folk lived away from the cities, eking out an existence in the mountains. (NLT)

What's worse than living in a Nostraman city? Living on a Nostraman hill, apparently. This seems to just be an idea of ADB's that doesn't come up again but I've always found it quite interesting. Were the Hill Folk as scummy as the City Folk, just with more of a down-home Dukes of Hazzard vibe? Seems likely.

This also supports the idea of Nostramo not being completely urbanised like some Hive Worlds are. In my view its continents might have had a geographical layout a bit like Italy or Scotland where the cities are mainly on the flatter coasts with a more sparsely populated hilly/mountainous interior.

What else? (This part is just me making stuff up so feel free to ignore it. I'm not ADB, I'm not even ADB's hat.)

If the rest of Nostramo's marine life is anything like the sharks and whales then it's fucking terrifying. I would imagine, because it's funny, that a lot of Nostraman food features disgusting industrially-processed fish in some way or another. Like the food in Dishonored but even worse.

Is something wrong, dearest offworld husband? You haven't touched your stale bread, whalemeat and jellied eels.

Since all life on Nostramo seems to be comically carnivorous and aggressive, it would make sense in a 40K kind of way for there to be giant predatory penguins living at one or both of its poles. A bit like the monstrous blind albino penguins HP Lovecraft wrote about.

Last known infrared pict-capture of an early Nostraman settler attempting communication with a juvenile specimen of the native penguin species. There were no survivors.

The Choldrith, 9 ft (2.7 m) Spiderlike creatures! They can launch webbing to instantly restrain, or just use Hold Person. They've also been venomous traditionally, but 5e doesn't mention that so I guess they aren't anymore? You may have thought the drider was a spider-person, but this is the more monsterous version. They're the leaders, priests, etc of Chitine hives.

A touch of lore if you're curious, when the drow were making the Chitine they got Lolth to give them life, but secretly made them loyal to themselves instead of her. Choldrith were made by Lolth as a response. Chitine are loyal to them, working like eusocial insects, while Choldrith are loyal completely to Lolth. They even led the rebellion against the drow and still work to undermine them. Not that it matters much for this, I just thought it was neat.

The Six Veldigun And Their Horror Monster Archetypes, or How To Make A Good Veldigun OC

So I’ve been thinking a lot about Veldigun. What would happen if I created more, specifically. The thing about them is that they’re all made to fit into specific horror monster archetypes: so I figured, why not explore those archetypes to help those who want to make good OCs that seem like they’d be canon characters?

(Note to self that I only have fairly limited knowledge of horror movies, and what I have seen is based almost entirely on Kill Counts for them. So this is just a collection of that limited knowledge, plus some extra help from TV Tropes.)

The Main Six

Clyde - Basic Horror Monster

There’s really not much to say about Clyde. He’s a parody of your basic supernatural horror monsters: the Xenomorph, the Thing, Pennywise- that last one especially is clearly a big inspiration for him.

You could also say the Velociraptors from Jurassic Park (or the Indominus, or the Indoraptor- really any of the smarter dinos) and I wouldn’t blame you. Clyde’s biggest weapon is easily his intelligence, no matter how fast he is or how badly he can warp body and mind.

Winfrey - Brown Note Being

(ok I know this is kind of an awkward name given the trope’s named after a recurring joke from South Park but it’s what TV Tropes calls this kind of horror monster so I’ll go with it)

This is the best trope I could find to sum up what he is, if what was established in the old lore still keeps up. He’s really big, and mainly stays in the same place all the time, but his “music” is what makes him dangerous.

He’s like a Quiet Place monster but in reverse. Other similarities you could pull include the Bird Box monster and Medusa.

Klaus - Slasher Villain

I think it’s been said in the old lore (again, if it still keeps up) than Klaus doesn’t absorb people’s minds like the others, he just kills them. This combined with his humanoid appearance (humanoid for a Veldigun, that is) and height makes it pretty obvious what he’s pulling from.

Big members of this archetype include Ghostface, Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger (kinda?), Jason Voorhees, and- most importantly as he has been said to be a big inspiration for him- William Afton.

Jack - The Trap

This is less of a horror monster archetype and more of a horror game mechanic but come on, this is clearly what he’s pulling from.

He’s supposed to be like a mimic, or the Dread Duckies from Dark Deception. An inanimate object that you think is safe to approach, but then oh fuck, you’re dead.

Simon - The Exception

Because there’s always one of these kinds of monster. Whenever there’s a whole bunch of different monsters and they all have different mechanics, there’s always one that actually doesn’t pose a threat to you at all. Not much more to say.

The Flock - ???

…I’m not actually sure what he’s supposed to be.

My closest guess is that he’s supposed to be a horror monster that’s actually not a monster at all but just a particularly aggressive animal, like Jean Jacket from Nope. What do you guys think?

Archetype Ideas For All You OC Creators

And here’s what you’re all looking for: the part where I list off all the horror monster tropes I can think of so you can make Veldigun of them! Take a look:

Parasite/Hive Mind - Hive Mind Veldigun that has a “main body” with limited abilities but can also infect people into sorta sub-Veldigun that can’t infect others themselves and can also be killed. How would you guys take this? I’m thinking “nest of countless brightly-coloured, itching ants that lay eggs under your skin to brainwash you” myself.

Mind Hive - Ok, what if there was a Veldigun that didn’t absorb minds in the same way the others do? As in, there is no “main” Veldigun and instead just all of its victims fighting for control?

Little Menaces - This is kinda a sub-kind of the hive mind idea I brought up earlier but think about it. You know Gremlins? What if that but Veldigun?

Blind/Deaf - This trope has become ALL TOO FUCKING popular in the past few years. We need a Veldigun about it.

Ghostlike - Basically if Grimmso got the chance he deserved. All the basic ghost abilities: invisibility, intangibility, flight, etc. Is this a bit too OP for a Veldigun? Yes. Do I care? No.

Living Curse - This kinda wasn’t worded correctly but imagine a Veldigun that’s less of a tangible entity and more of a force. Like the Smile curse, or the Killer Track from Hatchetfield.

People had to actively ask if Bee was supposed to be the one and only Beelzebub and now they're relying on Twitter fans to make theories on why the characters look in certain ways or are allowed to do certain things, people who don’t follow Vivziepop on social media aren’t gonna know about how this world works. I like subtle world building and hints, and I think the ideas of Beelzebub representing an animal tamer is fun (even if Wrath makes more sense to me), but when the rules of how the hierarchy system and rings work is already so confusing and relies entirely on someone looking it up online it makes some people think Vivziepop wanted to make another random furry design. Why are hellhounds represented by gluttony? We were never shown an instance of this before and the episode doesn’t even say that they’re in the Gluttony ring at the start (which is just another ring with a yellow sky).

I’m not saying I want the show to spoon feed us everything, but just a little context and set up in the actual show instead of random things just happening all the time with no explanation would be nice?

Also for the “A bee/fly would have been unoriginal and ugly, she doesn’t have to follow the Bible lore” people, have you considered that Bee's character design is too messy some people?

Vivzie has answered ALLL of this, even to the subtly of the animal trainer and all that. She even says it's fair that people don't realize the subtly of it and disagree with it. She doesn't mind it. It's just those who are in bad faith and will argue about every tiny issue.

Why are the hellhounds represented by Gluttony? It's the same way Satan represents imps, Ozzie represents succubi, Bel represents baphomets, Mammon represents jesters, and Levi represents fish creatures. They are the citizens of that Ring. What else do you want? Why would this be answered in the episode? Also, again, Viv already answered it.

Also, Gluttony is just another ring with yellow sky? Yeah, if you completely ignore the hive/bee theme of it, them yeah its just another ring. Did you know if you ignore the nightclub/red district/Vegas environment of Lust, it's just a rainy ring? Did you know if you ignore the disheveled, crime-ridden, and heavily industrialized cities of Greed, it's a ring with green in it?

Finally, it's fine if people don't like Bee's design. No one cares if you dislike the design. It's when people claim to "fix" the design or make it "better" that there are problems. This is no different than "fixing" some creator's art on here or Twitter. People lose their minds over that. Guess what? This isn't different.

How did you know to look for Karkat, specifically? Maybe future Exiles are instinctively aware of their assigned Player - or maybe they’re all so tied up in time loops that it doesn’t really matter. 

Jack’s narration implies that he’s only been here for a few minutes - but Karkat’s already in contact with Vriska, trying to hash out a plan. I was ragging on his leadership skills a second ago, but it seems the guy’s pretty good at thinking on his feet. 

He doesn't want you to look at it. Just look away, he says. You've got to admit. Now you're curious.

As am I. We seem to be gearing up for The Reveal, so it’s time to hazard a guess. Here are the options, as I see them:

His blood could be Red - equal to Aradia, or lower. My money’s on it being lower, since I don’t think we’re going to be doubling up on blood colors. This feels like the frontrunner to me. Unlike with the other options, it offers an obvious explanation for why he’s so terrified of anyone seeing it - hell, if I was a redblood, I’d hide it too.

Purple, higher than the two sea trolls. This would be fun, and Karkat’s choice to hide it would add an interesting new dimension to his character - but would a prince-in-disguise plotline really work, here? That would imply that he’s secretly an aquatic troll - and I don’t see a tail, fins, gills, or any other hints. Sure, he’s a water sign, but that doesn’t mean much - after all, so is Vriska. And, yeah, he could be a purpleblood who isn’t aquatic, but that’s a complicated hypothesis, which seems to go against established lore. 

Green, like his Trollian chart dictates. This seems unlikely - Trollian seems to sort users based on blood color, and if it’s sorting him according to his real blood color, then his anonymity is kind of useless, isn’t it?   

Something really weird, outside the blood system entirely. Maybe Karkat’s blood lacks any pigmentation, and is black, white or grey - or maybe it changes color. There’s no evidence for any of these, and I don’t know what they would mean, but I may as well jot them down for completeness' sake. 

We have a winner! 

Alternia treats redbloods like shit - so why the fuck would you show your blood, if you can avoid it? 

I’m honestly not sure how he was able to avoid it. Your blood caste even dictates the type of hive you’re allowed to erect, so it has to be recorded somewhere. You can’t just hide it physically - there must be more to it than that.

There is a reason why not many females are in the beehive colony of Gear station. The late Queen was jealous of wanting to be the only one her subjects fawn over and sentenced every other female bee to death. Since she herself cannot give eggs, she has stolen eggs from other hives to create her own colony.

She feared that a female princess who was fertile would end her reign.

Elisa was the only Survivor. After being executed and her dreams of becoming what humans called an idol, she fled. Becoming a queen in her own right, capturing the hearts of many insect hybrids as she traveled around, weaving and sewing her outfits out of spider silk.

She had her own home and she was comfortable but she missed her friends and fellow Hive mates. She wanted to reach out to them but couldn't out of fear of that damn bitch coming after her.

It wasn't until the word got around about Gear Station her own hive rumor had it that they had a new Queen, a human. Her curiosity peaked. Was that tyrant really dead...

Your kings were shocked by her return. It was sudden that they thought she was... they cried, hugged her, and celebrated.

You felt a tinge of jealousy in your heart.

I played in a narrative campaign last week and it's given me all sorts of new lore for my space marine army :) Check THIS shit out!

Space Marines knew no fear, but captain Morrow was certainly bewildered. As she and her Iron Ravens fended off a pair of the heretics' blasphemous Defiler engines, she saw something land in the distance with a flashing light. A teleport homer! She guessed, our missives has been answered!

But nothing came.

Three other Astartes chapters and a Militarum regiment in the subsector and nobody could spare as much as a squad of Terminators.

The combustion of brother Salazar's jump pack brought her back into focus on the battle at hand. She steadied her bolt rifle and took aim at the Defiler's waist. The round from her boltgun cut straight through the weak hydraulics and detonated deep in the daemon engine's flesh. The defiler's torso toppled like a Varakan hardwood as its legs collapsed underneath.

Morrow turned her attention again to the beacon. It was starting to give her a headache. She heard a ringing in her ears and saw spots in her eyes. She'd felt this before. Oh no.

Shadow in the warp.

The heretic astartes screamed in agony as the ground began to tremble. The first chitinous tendrils of the Tyranid swarm appeared on the horizon. From all directions.

The second Defiler's plasma cannon backfired and its entire right hull exploded in a bloody mist. A squad of legionnaries camped out in the east ruins was overrun by a swarm of hormagaunts, their dying screams echoing out across every mind on the battlefield; A cabal of posessed astartes was atomized by a neurothrope; and a horde of neurogaunts scratched and chewed at the drop beacon. Hellblaster sergeant Victus stared a Lictor dead in the eyes, and the Lictor did nothing but stare back before scuttling away. Whatever they're here for, Morrow thought, it's not us.

Thank the Emperor.

"<kzzzt>raven Gunship Corax Temperesta calli<kzzzt> captain Morrow," she heard through vox.

"Loud and clear, Temperesta. What's the matter, Vandeen?"

"Orders intercepted from fleet command, captain. Reads: "Tyranid response significantly <kzzzzt> than expected. Ordering immediate orbital bombardment of designated lure zone. By order of Inquisitor Hester LeVizikan" Temperesta is en route to your current location and will <kzzzt>in seve<zzzt>." They're bombing the <kzzzzzzzzzzzt>field. They've <kzzzt> us t<kzzzzzzt> "

Space Marines knew no fear, but Captain Morrow was shocked.

"Brothers!" She bellowed, "We have been ordered to evacuate!"

Her marines glanced back at her, perplexed. She switched to battlefield vox.

"Orbital bombardment imminent. All forces converge on south tower. Get as high as you can and await evac. Corax Temperesta en route and arriving in seven minutes."

Seven minutes, she thought as she fired a bolt round through the skull of a Plaguebearer shambling towards her, the heretic forces are nearly annihilated, and the xenos are not... so far... attacking us. We can hold out for seven minutes. In one last hail of bolter and plasma fire, she and the remains of Hellblaster squad Damnos climbed aboard their Impulsor escort and sped towards the south tower.

Aboard the impulsor, captain Morrow surveyed the passing landscape; A bombed-out ruin of a once-thriving hive city. She saw in the middle distance passing by, another of those same bizarre beacons pierce the desolate ground. She saw that it was emitting some strangely-coloured gas, and bore an inquisitorial seal. Skull and crossbones; The Ordo Xenos. She watched as the xenos converged on the signal and try to tear it open.

Morrow felt nauseous as her mind committed the sin of questioning. What are those things? Why are the xenos only going after it? why are they leaving us alone? And where are the reinforcements we called for?

She checked the chonometer she set in her HUD. Five minutes. The impulsor came to a screeching halt at the base of a large ferrocrete tower bearing the fragmented remains of a once-pristine palatine aquila. She banged on the Impulsor's cockpit hatch.

"Top of the tower! Come on!" Morrow ordered.

"---|| {Response}: NEGATIVE ||--- ---|| {Explanation}: error. Safety of Iron Ravens vehicle: IMPULSOR - IRON HEART at risk. " replied techmarine Charan X-01.

"Leave it, we can get a new one. Do whatever last rites your kind need to do and get yourself to the top of the tower."

The reclusive techmarine closed his hatch again and began to pray.

She and her hellblaster escort met with Lieutenant Hawat's force, Intercessor squad Colliss and the famed Stern Third veterans, at the front gate, where they had been keeping watch.

"Captain," said the young lieutenant, "What is this? What's happening?"

"Inside!" She cried as a bleeding Hellbrute limped to the tower gate. She banged on the impulsor's hull. "Prayer time is over. Out! Now!"

The techmarine clambered out of the Impulsor as the Hellbrute aimed its meltagun straight at the machine's chapter badge. X-01 had timed a smokescreen to go off just as his boots hit the rubble and he and the Captain were lost to the daemon engine in a thick haze. they, and all the marines outside ran indoors and slammed the gate behind them.

Four Minutes.

She turned to lieutenant Hawat and answered his question.

"Our distress call was answered. By the Inquisition."

"Captain?"

"I don't know, Bran." she said. The marines climbed the stairs to the second floor. "The rest of you, push ahead. Command meeting."

The intercessors, hellblasters, and sternguard continued up the stairs.

"Take off your helmets," Captain Morrow ordered, "No tracking."

The two subordinates obeyed. The tube coming out of Charan's eye still bothered her, but she kept her composure.

"The only reason we even KNOW the bombardment is coming is because Temperesta INTERCEPTED a tight-beam vox communication across the Imperial fleet. We're not supposed to evacuate."

"You're disobeying an order from the inquisition?" Lieutenant Hawat exclaimed, "Captain, you are bordering on heresy. There are many who already want you burned as a heretic for your mere existence."

"I'm a space marine, they can take it up with my Primarch." she said, coldly.

"But Corax hasn't been seen since the scouring,"

Morrow stared frustratedly at her first lieutenant.

"Charan. Any guesses as to what those things are out there?" she asked the techmarine, pointing to another Ordo Xenos beacon being gnawed on by Rippers.

A garbled vox-message from captain Morrow's helmet interrupted Charan's diatribe and promtpted Morrow to put her helmet back on.

"ATTACKING. I REPEAT, THE XENOS ARE ATTACKING. CAPTAIN, RESPOND."

Three minutes.

"Gravis squad Gilvane, status." Morrow replied.

"<kzzzzzzzzzzzzt> heavy casualties <kzzzzzzzzzzzzzzt> only survivor <kzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzt>AYSIN COLE, REMEMBER ME<kzzzzzzzzzzzzzt>"

As if on cue, the xenos rammed themselves at the front gate, and the marines ran. By the third floor captain Morrow and her subordinates had caught up to the infantry. They made it to the fifth floor when a Gargoyle broke through a solid plasteel window and mauled hellblaster sergeant Victus before being blown apart by brother Henrix's bolt rifle. They heard the scratching of gaunts and rippers climbing the buildings outer walls and the chittering of more bioforms below. Brother Kyrien threw every grenade he had down towards the oncoming swarm.

"SUFFER NOT THE ALIEN TO LIVE!" he screamed as he emptied his whole clip.

"Hold your fire, brother!" Morrow barked. "Supply is limited! Save it for the shots that count!"

They kept climbing, letting those with enegry weapons cover their tail.

Two minutes.

on the roof, Morrow caught a brief glimpse to the beacon again and watched as a neurogaunt dragged a human brain out of its casing.

She heard a low mechanical scream coming from her right. The Redemptor Dreadnought Farren Undying charged towards the tower, crushing Tyranids beneath his feet. He wildly flung arms he didn't currently have, slamming his Ballistus lascannon across the skull of a Leaper. Morrow hated seeing her old mentor like this. She knew he wasn't going to last long entombed, every primaris marine knows a redemptor dreadnought is a slow and painful death sentence. Part of her was grateful for the extra time she had with him while he was still coherent, but another wondered if it wouldn't have been a greater kindness to let him die on Merenghast. But this is an unkind galaxy, she assured herself, Even in death, we still serve.

The tyranids scrambled up the tower walls and Morrow's troops took position on the roof's edge and opened fire at the hordes below.

"ONE MINUTE 'TIL EVAC, BROTHERS!" Morrow cried, "HOLD THE LINE."

Intercessor Sergeant Vikram's bolt rifle ran dry, the hand carrying his bot plistol was torn off by a genestealer now overpowering him. Once it had a good grip on its prey, the creature bit sergeant Vikram's head off. Sternguard veteran Fenslor was shot by a parasite weapon that ate him from the inside out. Morrow heard the roar of jet engines fly overhead and saw the stormraven gunship 'Corax Temperesta' descending on their position. Half a second too late for brothers Henrix or Kyrien, Temperesta drove back the tyranids in a fire of lascannon and bolter fire before hovering level with the roof and opening its bay doors.

"Now! Now! Everybody aboard! Now! Let's go!" the other survivors from across the battlefield commanded to the astartes below.

All astartes on the roof ran for the gunship, shooting, slashing, or beating back whatever Tyranids made a grab for them. Once all the survivors were safely aboard, the pilot slammed the aircraft's bay doors shut in a crunch of alien chitin and climbed above the bombed-out skyline.

They were safe. A lot of good men died to get here, but we made it. we're okay.

"Deep-strike Sergeant Kallen reporting in, I hope you weren't planning on leaving without us."

"Kallen! You're alive!" Morrow exclaimed through vox.

"Don't sound so surprised."

Morrow removed her helmet and called up to the cockpit, "Open starboard bay door! We've got survivors incoming!"

The light of jump pack engines arose from the ruined streets as sergeant Kallen's Intercessor squad flew up to join the evacuees. Five survivors joined them aboard temperesta. The gunship ran one last lap around the city's perimiter, scanning for any other survivors. They spotted on a crumbling buttress, Farren Undying.

"Larissa? Are we going back for the old captain?" Lieutenant Hawat asked captain Morrow.

She watched him down on the ground swinging his missile launcher wildly, flinging projectiles at random as a screamer-killer charged towards him. She turned away, and wiped a tear from her eye.

"Temperesta's damaged and overburdened as it is," she sniffled, "We'd be putting the rest of us at too great a risk."

Morrow put her helmet back on. Lieutenant Hawat could see that she clearly needed a minute and took charge. He climbed up to the cockpit,

"Leave the dreadnought. Our first priority is to the living."

Temperesta sealed all airlocks and ascended to orbit.

Morrow would naver dare show it in front of her troops, but she wept. She wanted to scream. There were too many unanswered questions and hurt feelings for even her transhuman mind to keep track of. What are those beacons for? Why did he have to die? Why weren't we told about the orbital strike? Why did it have to be now? Where was the hive-ship these xenos had to come from? They clearly responded, why didn't the imperium send reinforcements? WHY DID HE HAVE TO DIE?

These covens will be all around the world (apparently) and the Cult King will pay for everyone and everything, but there is a donations thread in the discord to help fund the whole thing. So he won't be paying for anything his 'followers' will.

So I'm guessing the 10mil from Odin fell through or something.

I and also noticed a post the cult King made to his followers a lot for.the language used spoke to the reader like this " no matter how mundane and bland you are know that your king loves you".

Also, and this is what concerns me most, a lot of the followers this dude has are underage. While some of this shit is hilarious, cults can get crazy quick.

So I knew my time in the server was coming to an end.

To my keyboard I went.

To my intrigue someone else in that chat had already begun to ask him questions about these...plans of theirs.

I had my in, and it was time to stir the pot.

Being the polite folk that I am I basically said that these ideas seem creative but not realistic or based in reality.

Oh man, the hive began to buzz my dudes.

I had angered the swarm.

The Cult King kept deleting the messages they didn't agree with. Completely sensoring any opinions that differed from theirs, and mine wasn't the only one.

The Cult King kept preaching that this was a place of respect and different opinions would be tolerated only if they met the Cult Kings RULES!!

The Cult came for me hard.

Although, some were sweet and tried to convince me this King of theirs was legit.

Others came at me phallac insult first.

I have been called all manner of holes and bits of the lower human public region.

It was thrilling to watch the hypocisry of their own words take place.

I am not usually one to judge or troll other people, especially on their personal beliefs...but this is wild.

Eventually the Cult King stepped back in and ordered everyone to be silent by typing in bold 'ENOUGH',

followed by,

'You are disturbing my peace'.

I was still typing what was actually going to be a de-escalation kind of message when this dumpster fire of a King called me out by my discord name and ordered me to be quiet.

Now...

You see, I don't appreciate anyone trying to sensor or control people PERIOD.

So I decided it was time to die on that hill.

Some valiant souls joined in and voiced their concerns and as the cult was hurling insults,

The server was gone.

I had been booted.

But this is not where the story ends.

You see there are people in the discord server that have been following this King for years.

Before this cult the Dumpster King had tried to start another cult, unsuccessfully might I add.

The Dishonest King claimed to descend from moon people or something, and was an immortal vampire.

Shockingly the Vamp King shut down the discord server because the followers had found out the truth of his backstory and revolted like the true champs they are.

And years later the Fairytale King has once again tried to start a following.

Because I can't leave well enough alone, I found a reddit thread where this Scam King was trying to share 'factual information' about all the knowledge they have.

I found a reddit thread where someone was asking about a stone, and the Gem King claimed that this mineral or rock was SUPER dangerous and rare and that they had encountered it only a few times in their existence, and that it could only be found in the back market. Deathstone people.

So you know I did another deep dive.

And guess what I found evidence of this mineral from Marvel, D&D, Dresden files, but it is not an actual element that exists on the planet earth.

So I asked a question in the reddit threads.

I was moonlighting at this point, trying to appear a Marvel fan that fell down a rabbit hole and was now politely fact checking.

The Ego King truly believes in the bs that comes through the keyboard.

Maybe I am an asshole, I am in the eyes of the 'Kingdom' , but I honestly don't care.

I like to think that everything done in the shadows eventually comes to light.

The King will get what's coming to him, everything has its time.

But if anyone was skeptical in the chat or felt unsure I hope I planted a seed of critical thinking.

Loved your post/psychoanalysis of Cayde. Though, sadly that part of Cayde’s character is only explored in the lore books and the recordings. If you just played the game/watch the cutscenes, you wouldn’t get that impression-or at least, it’d be extremally easy to miss.  If only the game explored that more. Wish we would get a prequel game or even show (heard Bungie is in talks to have a Destiny show made, but don't quote me on that) to explore that. Plus, it’d be cool to see Andal in the flesh, and see him and Cayde interact. 

while i personally think the Destiny 2 Experience isn't complete WITHOUT reading the lore books and tabs or getting invested in the characters, and while you sort of have a point that casuals might not get the extent of Cayde's character, i don't entirely think this is accurate?

if you only played the missions and watched the cutscenes of Forsaken, without the lore, i still think that anyone with a relatively good ability to analyze characters and writing would be able to see the "messages to potential killers" as reasonable.

like, even if you don't dig into the guilt complex or anything, i think it's equally fair to assume that Cayde is just a man with a backup plan. he strikes me as someone who doesn't like being caught off-guard and tries to think of every possible contingency. i think it's reasonable for a casual player to hear him leave messages for his friends saying "hey, if you killed me for whatever reason, no biggie" and come to the conclusion that he made these "just in case." even if he didn't think he would NEED those messages delivered, he'd rather be prepared anyways. (for example, like i said, he even has a good deal of excuses or guesses as to why IN the messages - maybe Zavala would have to kill him/let him die for the sake of the City, maybe Petra was ORDERED to kill him by her queen, even if she didn't want to - things like that.)

idk. the lore writing and deeper dives into characters and worldbuilding feel integral to the destiny experience, in my opinion, but i don't think the messages would seem out of character if you HADN'T read the lore. (and besides, it's not even a hard conclusion to come to. "aloof optimistic joker who's secretly severely traumatized and haunted by their past" is a very common character archetype.)

i do agree though, i would LOVE an (animated!) destiny tv series that explores more of the world and characters outside of the player's universe (like The Golden Age, the beginning of the City, events happening outside of Sol like the Hive warmongering and Cabal politics; and things like Clovis and the Exos or, absolutely, Cayde and the Old Crew.)

I think I'm starting to get a little more detailed about shadow's "mlc" Lore

GUN is a kind of Moon Knights Branch

They were in Luna's service, but we all know the story (I think)

I want mlc to be hypothetically located a little before the first season, anyway it would change mlp's story a little but I don't want to get too involved in it

Here I don't have exactly detailed what triggers GUN to want to create an artificial alicorn, Shadow was in development long after Luna left so I guess... Create a new leader? Just investigate the alicorns? A weapon of protection/war because they saw what they are capable of? Replacement to control the moon? All at the same time? Idk

But that's why Rouge works in the government and is a batpony, she can technically stay up late and they are the moon knights.

But alchemists and things like that couldn't achieve it, I don't know what exactly the biolizard would be, perhaps a mix between an unfortunate unicorn fused with a dragon and turned into a giant, unstable mutant.

But after another attempt, a hive of changelings attacks their base, I don't think the ARK can go to space, maybe it's just floating in the sky and invisible and has a lunar theme, It's not Chrysalis, Shadow would be in charge of killing Doom here too, leaving Chrysalis as the only one., I know that there is a non-canonical origin for them in the comics that although I like it, it is not here. But everyone knows Doom and Gerald know each other and have a son (xd) who would be Shadow.

The Doom hive is not necessarily fed by love, but by chaos, but not discord chaos I suppose (or is it?) That or Doom is even more bloodthirsty and kills ponies and that's it.

Now the massacre, I don't know what would trigger that either, I guess GUN knew about Gerald and Doom's relationship and being GUN they tried not to leave a trace of the event, they don't want to look even worse with The princess

That's all I have for now, maybe I'll change it later because I haven't watched all of mlp in a while, in fact, I didn't even watch the last season. (I feel very bad watching last seasons of whatever for some reason) so one day my lazy ass will watch the entire series and notice that it doesn't make much sense (or you can correct me of course :b)

Hello Glass! For my question, I've been thinking about Iris and Lily lately. You've talked about them sharing a body in your sandbox, and I was just wondering how that would work? Is it sort've like Lily is looking over Iris's shoulder, and Iris can hear her? Does Lily have some control over what Iris does? I really enjoy symbiote's and stuff (so characters like Venom and Eddie, Crona and Ragnarok) so this caught my interest!

This is going to be a spoiler and I'm probably not going to explain it as well here as I could in a tale setting all this up, but I'll give you a rundown. Also includes a bit of a related lore dump just for context.

There are three types/tiers of shared consciousnesses, which fall on a scale of how much of a sense of individuality remains in them.

Hive Minds - Members of a hive mind 'share' a certain aspect of their consciousnesses while still each maintaining an individual ego. You can think of this as always being able to read each other's minds or something like that. Individual cases are all a bit different, but that's the gist.

Egregores - Egregores are comprised of several consciousnesses that have ceased to be individuals. There's no line where one person ends and another begins, they all bleed into each other. As such, their existence tends to be rather horrific and agonizing and they're generally unpredictable, although, again, there are exceptions.

Gestalts - These are singular egos borne of several consciousnesses. In some cases, the circumstances of their creation make them anomalous, but in others, Gestalts are largely indistinguishable from normal humans.

As you might have guessed, these can bleed into one another. Hive minds can become egregores if the individuals making it up don't have strong perceived boundaries, like, for instance, if there are more consciousnesses than bodies. Egregores will then usually stabilize into gestalts.

All this is to say that the Lily/Iris situation is a hive mind, not an egregore. Lily is smart enough to know all of what I explained, and therefore doesn't exert any level of control over Iris' body as that's a good way to have your consciousnesses lose their boundaries. The two share memories and qualia, which includes Lily's absurd information processing capabilities.

In The Department of Humanoid Risk Assessment I wrote that "Infovores often exhibit the capabilities of reality benders and warpers, and this form of informational processing can occasionally augment those abilities." This was largely there to set up the Lily/Iris situation. I headcanon that aside from psychological blocks, the reason Iris needs photos to do what she does is because photographs hold visual information. Since Lily, who's a special case among the special cases of infovores, can work in tandem with Iris for information processing and exchange, that'll interact with Iris' anomaly in a fun way.

As for even more spoilers, because why stop now, Lily more or less has total control over her home universe/timeline/whatever, which includes SCP-2000, and all its cloning devices. Which means making another body is trivial to her.
